Personal Skills Audit Name:_______Kyle Porritt________________________________
Skills acquired How did these skills
contribute to the creation of
your product?
How will you develop these
skills during the A2 project?
Digital technology
- What
equipment/software
packages did you use to
produce your
production?
* Camera
* Tripod
* Photoshop
These helped create my final
product, as without them I
wouldn’t be able to film them or
create my poster.
I will develop my skills of these
digital technologies, as I will
have to film my music video. I
will develop my Photoshop
skills, as I will have to create a
magazine advertisement to
promote my CD digipack.
Post production
- What software did you
use to create your
production?
- Discuss specific features
of the software.
* Final Cut
* iMovie
The software I used helped me
when editing my product as
they allowed me to place each
clip I filmed into the order in
which I wanted and also
allowed me to use special
effects, such as blurring a shot.
I will develop my skills of these
editing software as I shall need
to edit together different shots,
for example if I chose to do a
narrative I would have to edit
together the narrative and the
band performing and make
each edit happen to the beat of
the music.
Research and Planning
- What tasks did you
complete when
preparing to film your
sequence?
- How did your planning
help the smooth
progression of your film?
The tasks, which I had to do to
complete my filming, included
setting up days to meet up for
location hunting and also to
film. These tasks helped
smooth over the progression of
the film as it meant they were
done and I could focus on other
tasks.
These skills helped me realize
that in order to make production
run smooth I will have to keep
up to date with planning and
make sure that everyone who I
am shooting with knows the
time and date in which we are
all meeting up.
I shall develop these skills into
my A2 media project as I will
have to contact people I wish to
be in my final piece, as long as
they give me their consent, and
arrange a time and date which
we are all available to film. This
will help as it will help smooth
over the filming process so I
can focus on editing the piece
together.
Using conventions of real
media texts
- Which texts did you
analyse?
- Did you take any
inspiration from the
conventions found from
your research?
I researched horror films, such
as George A. Romero’s Dawn
Of The Dead and also the 2004
remake. I took inspiration of
these as I chose to create a
zombie survival horror. I also
took inspiration from the
Resident Evil franchise in the
sense that people look normal,
yet are going through changes.
I also took inspiration from
Clover Field as I chose to do
the footage as a “found
footage” type film, which meant
I had to look to the camera and
explain the situation.
These skills helped me realize
the deeper meaning of these
films and how to create an
effective horror movie. The
analyzing skills also helped me
to focus specifically which
camera shots are used, what
type of music and ambient
sounds are used to help create
suspense and also help to
create a sense of fear within the
audience who are watching
your product.
I shall develop these analytical
skills by researching music
videos from bands/artists who
are involved in the genre of
music in which I choose to do,
for example Rock. I shall watch
music videos and record what
they are like, such as a
narrative, how they are edited
together, which camera angles
are used and whether or not the
edits and angle changes are in
time with the music and go
along with the beat.

for the beginning of the
sequence, which meant going
to an abandoned site, which
used to be a chemical plant and
