The students visited Niagara Falls and had an amazing experience riding on the Maid of the Mist ferry that took them extremely close to the gigantic falls. They were in awe of the deafening sound and feeling of the cold mist on their faces. They learned that Niagara Falls is made up of three waterfalls and forms an international border between Canada and the United States. The scenic beauty and opportunity to learn more about the falls made their visit truly memorable.

5. At Apeejay School, Nerul, Navi Mumbai, we believe that there is no substitute for ‘education
through action’ and that exploring places, people, cultures, economic opportunities, and
technological advancements through travel, complements and completes the educational
experience. This philosophy matches our endeavour to create responsible global citizens
and dynamic leaders by bringing the knowledge of the world to the classroom as well as
encouraging students to go out into the world. These two methods are critical to create
the three pillars of global citizenship based on empathy, understanding, and international
collaboration.
In line with this mission, our students recently journeyed to the USA under a program titled
EdTerra’s East Coast Space Adventure. We chose this program for its focus on providing
students useful exposure to space exploration and technology at NASA’s Kennedy
Space Center. They also visited natural, historical, and modern marvels of Niagara Falls,
Washington, D.C., and New York City. To augment the broader program, we selected the
Young Authors Program, which ensured students’ engagement and immersion. This Student
Travel Review is an outcome of this collaborative and exploratory module that our students
of Apeejay School, Nerul, Navi Mumbai, along with the students of DPS International,
Gurugram, Gurugram, actively participated in. It captures the entire journey in students’ own
words and photographs. It even showcases their learning from this engaging journey to one
of the world’s most advanced nations.
I would also like to recognise the efforts of EdTerra Edventures, a company that is well
aware of co-curricular and extra-curricular goals in addition to the developmental needs
of students. We acknowledge the contribution of their staff, especially their on-journey
educator, the Journey Mentor, and Visa Assistance Services. Their professionalism has
resulted in an effortless, safe and enriching travel experience for each one of us and for the
group. Each parent may feel proud of this publication that will keep reminding their wards of
their achievements and capabilities, all lifelong.
Happy reading!

7. Dear Reader,
Amita Bajaj
Editor,
Students Publication
An educational journey to foreign lands always induces learning and excitement among
young and inquisitive students. When the destination is as diverse as the USA East Coast,
one can only imagine the myriad ways in which Indian students would absorb and construct
learning out of the many differences and similarities that mark the cultures and people of
India and the USA.
For EdTerra, an educational journey is about enabling students to construct knowledge
through a meaningful encounter with a new culture, without diluting their fun and excitement
or restricting their wandering, curious minds. EdTerra achieves this through its Program
Development Team (PDT), which comprises both Indian and international experts. The PDT
carefully designs culturally neutral projects that enable students to meaningfully observe,
record, and articulate their impressions. These tools are deployed through a process that
encourages teamwork and meaningful discussions besides recording observations through
digital means, all of which is finally synthesised into a media product that showcases the
ideas and learning of the students.
This Student Travel Review, ‘East Coast Space Adventure’, is one such media product that
captures the learning of the students of Apeejay School, Nerul, Navi Mumbai, on their journey
to the Kennedy Space Centre, Orlando along with Niagara Falls, Washington, D.C., and New
York City. This book serves as a window into the USA and above all, the inspiring world of
NASA, especially valuable for those students, peers, and parents who could not be a part of
the program. It showcases the intellectual and creative capacities of the students, the credit
for which is rightfully due to their parents and school.
EdTerra Edventures would like to thank Apeejay School, Nerul, Navi Mumbai, for their
efforts and support which made this educational journey possible, with a special mention
to the Vice-principal, Ms. Namita Anand, for guiding us. EdTerra would also like to thank
the accompanying teachers for being so dynamic and enthusiastic. Their energy made our
work easy, and more importantly, made for a more memorable journey for the students. We
encourage you to read and re-live the learning and adventures of these students through the
words and photographs that follow.

12. OUR JOURNEY
Our journey to the USA began with a lot of excitement and
enthusiasm as all of us were very keen to visit this wonderful
country and gain valuable knowledge. When we reached there, the
weather was really pleasant. Even though we were very tired from
long hours of travelling and jet lag, it did not bring our levels of
energy down.
Our spectacular journey began with a visit to one of the busiest
cities in the World, New York. The Statue of Liberty, the One World
Trade Center, and Times Square were simply breathtaking. After
New York, we left for Washington, D.C., the capital of the USA.
In Washington, D.C., we visited the Smithsonian Air and Space
Museum, which blew our minds away. Next, we visited the Capitol
Building, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Martin Luther King, Jr.
Memorial. We also saw the White House on our way. Our visit to
the capital gave us in-depth information about the history and
culture of the USA.
Our next stop on the journey was the Niagara Falls. We witnessed
the aesthetic and picturesque view of the Falls up close from our
ferry. Riding on the ferry called Maid of the Mist was extraordinary.
When we went on the Maid of the Mist, we came really close to the
gigantic Niagara Falls. We could feel the cold breeze and tiny water
droplets hitting our faces. It was quite an unbelievable experience.
The final city of our tour was Orlando in Florida. This city gave
us the most versatile experiences ranging from the extremely
enlightening and informative Kennedy Space Center to the most
enjoyable visits to Walt Disney World and Universal Studios. It was
a marvellous experience to witness the colourful Disney parade. All
of us were reliving our childhood dream of seeing and meeting our
favourite Disney characters. Some of its rides such as Incredible
Hulk Coaster and Spider-man were really exciting.
The bus tour of Kennedy Space Center, visit to the museums, and
the astronaut training opened our minds to new possibilities. The
one true learning we got from this amazing journey was to live with
no excuses and travel with no regrets. Our heartiest gratitude goes
to EdTerra for giving us this amazing opportunity.

20. KENNEDY SPACE CENTER
During our 1 hour 45 minutes ride to Kennedy Space Center,
we enjoyed the beautiful landscape of Cape Canaveral area of
Orlando. At Kennedy Space Center, the whole complex was filled
with adventurous rides and knowledgeable information. As we
entered the Kennedy Space Center we were greeted by the Rocket
Garden where actual rockets representing NASA’s Mercury,
Gemini, and Apollo programs are represented. Our first day at
the Kennedy Space Center was mostly spent on the bus tour. We
visited the amazing Apollo/Saturn V Center and saw the NASA’s
rocket launch sites as well as the Vehicular Assembly Building,
which the world’s largest single-storey building by volume.
On our second day, we visited the Rocket Garden followed by an
IMAX movie. After the amazing IMAX movie on the progress of
space research, we had an exciting lunch with a NASA astronaut
named John. He told us about his experiences of working on space
shuttle missions. He also told us a few equations used by early
mathematicians to calculate the exact location of planets. He was
very knowledgeable and friendly and answered to our questions
very patiently. Later in the day, we experienced the outer space
while undertaking the Shuttle Launch Simulator ride. We actually
felt the rocket thrust of launching off the planet in a shuttle and we
felt as if we were in space.
On the third day, we went for astronaut training where we
experienced some space procedures followed by actual
astronauts during their training. We were divided into teams
and were assigned missions which we had to complete using
computer simulators. These activities enabled us to understand
as to how the astronauts operate in space and the responsibility
that they carry on their shoulders. This was a very inspiring day
and we learnt a lot.

28. AMUSEMENT PARKS
When we got to know that we would visit Walt Disney World and
Universal Studios in Orlando, we were really excited. We were
looking forward to meet and click photographs with our adorable
Disney friends besides enjoying several adventurous rides and
roller-coasters. The most fascinating aspect of Walt Disney World
was watching the parade.
The Universal Studios, Florida is a theme park and production
studio located in Orlando. Universal Studios is a huge park
surrounded by a lake. The theme parks inside are: Marvel Super
Hero Island, Toon Lagoon, Skull Island: Reign of Kong, Jurassic
Park River Adventure, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and
The Lost Continent and Seuss Landing.
In Universal Studios, we enjoyed riding the Incredible Hulk roller-
coaster, Doctor Doom’s Fearfall, The Amazing Adventures of
Spider-Man (5D), and many other rides. Next, we went to the Toon
Lagoon and rode many thrilling water-rides such as Popeye &
Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges, and Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls. It
was an extremely thrilling experience. Some of us were initially
scared to experience the rides, but they felt really adventurous
once they rode all of them.
Next, we rode the Skull Island: Reign of Kong, a ride that brought us
face-to-face with King Kong. We could see King Kong fighting and
saving us from dinosaurs or other dangerous creatures inhabiting
the Skull Island. The Jurassic park River Adventure was another
adventurous ride. We ate our lunch at The Burger Digs.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was an interesting feature of
Universal Studios. All Harry Potter fans were really excited to visit a
world full of magical wands and broomsticks. A virtual simulation
ride took us on a fun ride along with Harry Potter and his friends
trying to rescue themselves while fighting a variety of enemies.
Visiting the amusement parks was a thrilling and joyous
experience. The atmosphere of these theme-parks was very
vibrant and dynamic. All the people seemed to enjoy and revel with
excitement which made us happy. Some of the best moments of
our journey were spent at the amusement parks.

36. NIAGARA FALLS
The day could not start any better as we boarded the bus exactly
on time to experience the beautiful ‘Queen of Falls’. On our way
to one of the world’s greatest waterfall, we saw the Niagara River
calmly carrying water. Watching the water fall from a certain
height that flows at a rapid speed was a breathtaking sight. After
we got off the bus, we made our way towards the ferry, The Maid
of the Mist. The name itself had a royal touch to it.
We got our blue raincoats or ponchos as they are called, before
boarding the ferry. We could see different species of birds flying
over the waterfall. All of us were amazed to look at the seagulls
and ducks. We were surprised to see that some people were
wearing red ponchos too. Later, we realised that the American side
gives blue ponchos but the ponchos given on the Canadian side
are red in colour. While riding the ferry, the loud and thunderous
sound of the water falling from the top was deafening. When we
felt the cold spray of mist on our faces, it seemed simply fantastic.
Many of us clicked photographs to capture the mist until it was
time to put our cameras away and prevent them from getting wet.
After the ferry-ride, we clicked many pictures from the observatory
deck in order to capture the beauty of the Niagara Falls from a
distance. The scenic beauty out there was captivating. We then
bought souvenirs from the gift-shop for our loved ones.
When we visited Niagara Falls, we learnt that it is a combination
of three waterfalls, namely American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, and
Horseshoe Falls. The waterfall forms an international border
between Canada and the United States of America.
Our visit to Niagara Falls was enjoyable and knowledgeable at
the same time. We felt really happy that we got an opportunity to
visit this beautiful creation of nature along with our teachers and
friends. The overall experience cannot be expressed in words. It
was simply mesmerising. The view of the Niagara Falls was so
extraordinary that we would always remember such an amazing
experience.

44. NEW YORK CITY
The famous New York City is located on the east coast of the
United States of America, in the state of New York. It has five
boroughs which are Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, Manhattan, and
Staten Island. The city of New York is home to approximately eight
million people. The world recognises the New York City as a tourist
destination.
The Statue of Liberty is located on Liberty Island in New York. The
Statue of Liberty was gifted by France to the USA in 1866. It was
initially brown in colour but with time the oxidation reaction on the
copper exterior changed its colour to teal. The Lady Liberty holds
a book which is labelled as the American Constitution and on the
right hand, she holds a torch representing ‘Liberty, Enlightening
the World’.
During the city tour, we visited the Empire State Building, Brooklyn
Bridge, Freedom Tower, 9/11 Memorial, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
The Empire State Building is located in midtown Manhattan. Its
height is 1454 feet, and when it was completed in 1931, it was
become as the tallest building in the world. It was designed by
Shreve, Lamb, and Harmon.
The St. Patrick’s Cathedral is a decorated Neo-Gothic style
Roman Catholic Church. Its cornerstone was laid in 1858 and it
is a prominent landmark of the city today of the city. The Brooklyn
Bridge is another marvel. The Brooklyn Bridge is located in
New York City, which connects the boroughs of Manhattan and
Brooklyn.
Times Square is one of the main tourist attractions of New York.
Times Square is filled with billboards that display advertisements
and news. It is a delight for the eyes to watch the bright and flashy
billboards. Times Square is an eye-catching destination. We also
saw a statue of Francis Patrick Duffy who was also called Father
Duffy. His contribution as a soldier and a priest makes him a
significant personality.
We also visited the One World Trade Center that is also known
as the Freedom Tower. It was built after the 9/11 attack on the
Twin Towers. There is also a 9/11 Memorial constructed to
commemorate the people who lost their lives during this horrible
tragedy.

62. I am Sheelu K. Rajani, the HOD of
Social Science department and
the senior-most teacher in Apeejay
School, Nerul. I have been working
for past 30 years and have been in
charge of tours and travels. The trip to
NASA was an educational as well as
enjoyable trip for all of us. Students
learnt sharing, caring, and being
affectionate towards each other. They
were keen to do all the activities at
the KSC and watched 3D movies with
keen interest. The highlights of the trip
apart from KSC were Statue of Liberty,
Times Square, and Niagara Falls. Ms
Christine managed the tour with love
and care towards children and with
lots of respect towards the teachers.
This great trip shall remain engraved
in my heart and mind and I would like
to thank the school, Principal Ma’am,
and the management.

I am a Biology teacher. Besides
teaching Biology, I also teach
Physics and Chemistry. So, my USA
East Coast adventure has been very
special and memorable. Visiting the
Niagara Falls and our ferry-ride taking
us up close to the Falls will remain
forever in my mind. Besides visiting
the Statue of Liberty and Freedom
Tower, the students could see the very
aircraft that the Wright Brothers flew
to make history at National Air and
Space Museum. NASA offers great
opportunities to young students to
learn and be inclined to science and
technology. So, thanks to EdTerra for
this tour and especially Christine for
being a great Journey Mentor.

I am Ms Kamal Shah from
DPS International, Gurugram
acknowledging several great
moments from the trip to the USA.
Learningisalifelongjourneyandtravel
makes one step out of their comfort
zone. I asked myself, “When was the
last time I did something for the first
time”. Accompanying students from
school on their much-awaited trip to
the USA was a rewarding experience.
The candid conversations, friendly
banter over meals, whirlwind shopping
trips, and student voices—all seemed
meaningful for they showcased
personal strengths outside the
classroom. ‘No matter how much you
know, there is always more to learn’
was the popular student vote. EdTerra
made the trip a memorable journey
and thanks to Ms Christine, for you
brought great joy to our trip.
I am Roma Gill, the School Counsellor
at DPS International, Gurgaon. We
headed out on this educational trip
to the USA in June 2019 covering
New York, Niagara Falls, Washington,
D.C., and finally Orlando. As an
accompanying facilitator from school,
I observed how this programme
transformed each student by
enhancing their executive functioning
and helped them becoming more
responsible and accountable. The
mesmerising experience at the
KSC, NASA was an addition to their
educational domain. The beautiful
architecture that was witnessed
in New York and Washington will
definitely stay as cherished memories
for each one. Niagara sight was a
spellbinding moment. Special thanks
to Ms. Christine, who managed the
program so well.
