Websites:
All of these websites were essential from
finding inspiration for my own trailer to giving
me various insights into planning a successful
movie trailers (such as Slideshare). There are
various sources of information to educate me
on things such as cinematography and
graphic design.
Facebook (Messenger Group chat)
Discussions
Even though I did not work in a group to create the same trailer, discussions were still essential between me and the
cast member. Therefore, I communicated with the cast member and fellow class students by creating a group chat
on Facebook in order to find out when the actor is free, inform what to wear and what time to show up at which
location. Not to mention, it was useful to get additional help from classmates such as holding the camera
equipment and to provide company. I also used email to communicate with the teachers to borrow filming
equipment and obtain a permission to film at certain locations such as the abandoned building located on the
school premises or the permission to use the school’s piano in the hall. Any other discussions were made during or
before the production in person to discuss the ideas from how the main character behaves, how long the film shoot
will take place to informing that the next photoshoot will involve learning piano notes.
Target Audience
I’ve researched my target audience using YouGov website by looking at the
audience of other films with a similar genre and story. I’d say that my
audience turned out to be similar to the audience of Jacob’s Ladder,
American Psycho an Black Swan in terms of age and gender. Overall, I’ve
decided to make my trailer suitable for 18 year olds as they are the majority
of my audience. Additionally I believe my trailer/film is suitable for 18 year
olds because it shows drugs, blood/ gore, close up disturbing scenes and
offensive/sensitive topics which is ‘mental health’.
Animatic – How Did It Help My Final Product?
The Animatic was a ‘template’ for the structure of my final video. It also
allowed me to visualize what locations and props are needed in order
to make it feel ‘complete’. The fluid ’animation’ provided me with a
clear idea of what mood I wanted to portray and how the acting
needed to be portrayed in the final product.
The main character I animated allowed me to give her more
personality and provide more ideas to the actress by showing her the
animatic. This gave the actress more information on what she needs to
expect during the production.
