2. Poirier Sport and Leisure
Complex (633 Poirier Street
Coquitlam, BC V3J 6A9)
Community Centers are an example of a
public sector. This sport and leisure complex
is able to provide “Fitness, sport, age-related
programs, events, arts, leadership, etc.” that
could “enhancing the quality of life and well-
being of citizens” (Lunn, 2020). This is
connected to recreational because it is a
municipal center, and receives funding. By
receiving funding, they are capable of
providing “affordable and quality recreation
programs,” (Lunn, 2020) to the people around
the area.

St, Coquitlam, BC, V3J 6N9)
Parks are an example of the public sector.
Having parks in communities can “provide
those opportunities deemed valuable by
society” (Lunn, 2020). Mundy park includes a
variety of recreational activities, which include
sport fields, walking trails, outdoor swimming
pool, etc. This is a recreational example
because the municipal is able to provide a
place for recreational activities to happen.
Without the maintenance of these sports field
and the whole park, people’s recreational
needs would not be fulfilled.

4. Centennial Activity Center. (578
Poirier St, Coquitlam, BC V3J
6A8)
This activity center is another sport recreational
site in the public sector. Besides being apart of
Centennial Secondary School, this is also being
shared with the city of Coquitlam. This gym is
able to “provide recreation that because of its
nature continually reinforces values and ideals
of establishing and maintaining a healthy
lifestyle to the user” (Lunn, 2020). This is an
example of recreation and physical education.
The gym is maintained by the municipal level of
government and used for recreational activities
for many individuals around the area. Including
drop-in activities of many sports at various
times. It is also in physical education, because
of the various teams that use this building for
practices. This includes teams that play
basketball, soccer, volleyball, and etc.

River Rd, Richmond, BC
V7C 0A2)
Drive Basketball is apart of the commercial
sector and is a high level training basketball
club. Drive Basketball continues to “remain
competitive” and is for a “specific market
group” (Lunn, 2020), to many basketball
players. Drive offers “increased recreational
opportunities,” (Lunn, 2020) including many
teams that travel to play basketball. Drive
connects to physical education as many
players that sign up for the team gains a vast
amount of knowledge. The club goal is to
teach advanced individuals high level
basketball, and to “Provide quality
products and services” (Lunn, 2020). Drive Basketball Logo. (n.d.). https://drivebasketball.com
7. 3D Basketball Academy.
(16081-1199 Lynn Valley

V7J 3S9)
Another establishment in the commercial
sector would be 3D basketball academy. 3D
basketball is targeted for a “specific market
group,” and “anyone who can afford the
service” (Lunn, 2020). The club is not
affordable for everyone, and the top team can
be quite expensive. 3D basketball is
connected to physical education as well. The
knowledge of coaches pass on very valuable
information to all participants. They are able
to “offer unique products and services” (Lunn,
2020), through their resources and coaching. 3D Basketball Academy logo. (n.d.). https://www.3dbasketball.net/
8. Saltus Athletic Academy
(4180 W 4th Ave,
Vancouver, BC V6R 4J5)
Saltus is another example of an
establishment in the commercial or private
sector. It is apart of the commercial sector
because it targets “specific market group” and
also offers “specialized service” (Lunn, 2020)
to certain athletes. Saltus is connected to
coaching and physical education. Many
athletes In this academy are able to get
“unique product and services” (Lunn, 2020)
by learning various exercises for strength
with different equipment. Coaching is also
related because weight lifting requires well
prepared coaches to coach. Without proper
guidance, athletes could easily get hurt over

10. VK Basketball (1515

VK basketball is a non-profit basketball club
for girls. They are able to run this club by
generating “enough profit to cover costs only”
(Lunn, 2020). Lots of the operations are
either payed “user fees” and or “donations”
(Lunn, 2020). VK basketball is connected to
our course because of coaching. Most of the
coaching roles that VK basketball offers are
“operated primarily by volunteers” (Lunn,
2020). Voluntary sectors “rely on members”
(Lunn, 2020) to continue to coach and help
the players to get better and develop their
basketball skills. A logo of VK Basketball. (n.d.). https://www.vkbasketball.com/
11. Tri-City Youth Basketball
Association (Tri-Cities, BC)
Another organization that is a non-profit
would be TCYBA. The profits gained from the
various teams are used for “sustaining
services” (Lunn, 2020). The money is used
for equipment, jerseys, and gym time all
through all the weeks of practice and games
for the winter and fall seasons. It is connected
to coaching as they are more focused on
creating “good for society/community” (Lunn,
2020). Likewise to VK basketball, TCYBA is
“primarily operated by volunteers”. (Lunn,
2020). As many coaches, and higher roles in
this club all volunteer their time for the better
of the game.

Lastly CMFSC is another non-profit
organization for soccer players around
Coquitlam. Just like other non-profits above,
they rely on “user fees” and “cooperate
sponsorship” (Lunn, 2020) to keep the
organization going. CMFSC is connected to
coaching because of the commitment many
individuals make. Most of the roles are
“primarily operated by volunteers” (Lunn,
2020). These individuals “invest in leisure
and recreation” for overall help “invest in the
future” (Lunn, 2020).
