3. What am I making?
• My final project is going to be a film trailer for a film about the seven
keys that can turn off the internet. There is going to be a group that
find about the keys to the internet and believe that the world would
be better without the internet. Because they think this, they show the
world how dangerous the internet can be and manage to get the
seven keys to turn off the internet and convince people that the
world would be better without the internet. Once the internet has
been shut down a lot of problems begin with the world that nobody
was expecting, and it affects people's laughs more than they thought
it would.
4. Why?
• I have chosen to do this for my final project because I think that I am the
best at filming out of all the things that we do in my creative media course,
and it is what I also enjoy the most and is what I am most passionate
about. I also think that what I am making a trailer for is very interesting and
when I found out that the keys existed in real life, I thought that it would
make a good film. However, since I am not very good at writing, and I think
that it would not translate very well into a short film I am deciding to make
a film trailer. I can also use a lot of my audio and music skills in a film trailer
because they usually use music and sound effects throughout and that is
something that I am also passionate about and enjoy which means I will be
mixing the two things that I enjoy the most and that I think that I am best
at.
5. Where is it going to be?
• I am going to put this onto my website, and I am also going to post it
onto YouTube. This is also going to be shown at a small screening.
6. Who is it for?
• I think that my trailer is going to be dark and scary. However, it is also going
to be not a horror films and I think that it could also appeal to people who
like technology but don't like horror films because there are not going to
be jump scares or things that you would find in a typical horror film.
Because it is going to be on edge and it has a lot of technology in it, I think
that it is going to appeal to 16–24-year-olds. This is because I think that
people older than this are going to find it harder to understand the film
because the older people are they generally know less about technology.
However, I am still going to make it very easy to understand so that people
from any age range can watch it. I think that it is going to appeal to both
genders because there is no reason why all genders cannot watch it. I also
think that it is going to appeal to people in the UK and America more than
other countries since they are majority English speaking, and they are
more likely to know the locations more since the trailer will reference
places in the UK and US.
8. Styles
• Colour grading – For my trailer I am going to be using blue colour grading. The reason
that I am going to be using the type of colour grading is because I want it to feel dark and
blue can make things seem dark. I also want the trailer to feel very cinematic and blue
and yellow are two very cinematic film trailer colours.
• Handheld – I want to film a lot of the trailer handheld. The reason that I want to do this is
because I think that handheld with warp stabilizer in premier pro makes the footage look
like it was filmed on a gimble which would make my trailer look like it's on more of a
budget and make it look more professional and cinematic.
• Black bars – My trailer is going to have very prominent black bars. The reason for this is
because black bars are used for very cinematic films and action films. For this reason, I
would like to add black bars and I think it would make it look more cinematic and I am
trying to make it look very cinematic and I think that it would add to the overall action
theme.
17. Equipment list
Equipment Reason
Camera So that I can film everything.
Takkstar microphone I am going to use this so I can get better audio than the cameras microphone
and so that I can point the microphone at things that I want to capture.
Rode procaster dynamic microphone I am going to be use this microphone to do all my voiceovers for the trailer. I
am going to use this because it is the best quality microphone that I own.
Audio Technica AT2020 I am going to use this microphone to do some overdubbing. I am going to use
this microphone because it is a condenser microphone; so, it won't isolate
the voice as much as my dynamic microphone so I can make the overdubbing
seem as natural as possible. I will also be able to pick up more frequencies
meaning that I can edit the audio in more detail
Presonus studio 24c This is the audio interface I am going to use to balance and monitor all the
audio I am going to be recording. I am also going to use this as the XLR input
for the microphones that I am going to be using.
Tripod I am going to use this so that I can stabilise the camera when I need a still
shot
Camera Rig I am going to use this for most of my handheld shots so that I can stabilise
most of my hand-held shots as well as possible.
Spare batteries I am going to need these to make sure that the camera I am using doesn't die
whilst we are filming
18. Music
The music that I would like to use in my trailer is going to be music from a
video game called undertale, however it is going to be a guitar cover of it
that I found on YouTube. I know that I am going to be allowed to use this
because the original song that the guitarist is covering is by Toby Fox who
made the game, and he did not copyright any of the songs and you can use
them for your own use. I am going to use this song because I like to plan all
my filming around the music as it helps me picture what I am going to film
in my head as I listen to the music and when I was listening to different
music, I found that I could see this song working the best and I had the
most ideas for this song. I think that it is going to work because it has a soft
and slow start and unlike the original song, the guitar cover builds up and
has drums which will help the trailer seem more intense and I think that it
will also help to move the trailer forward and feel like it's going somewhere
and like you are waiting for something to happen when it's building up.
19. Color schemes
• I am going to be making an action movie trailer, for this reason I am going
to use a blue color scheme. This is because I think that when you give it a
blue tint it makes everything seem more cinematic and I think that it will
also work best with natural lighting which I am going to be using the most
because using slightly blue tints makes things look whiter even when they
are not so it will also make things look more natural. I am also going to
make shadows a bit darker so the lighting seem slightly different to reality
and a bit darker so that it sets the theme for what the film would be, and it
shows the mood. I think for some indoor lighting I am also going to use a
yellow color scheme. This is so that it seems a lot warmer and safer in
some shots so that the whole trailer doesn't seem dark and scary because
the whole film isn't going to be dark and scary since it is not a horror film.
It is just going to have a lot of tension throughout the whole film, and I
want to show that the film is going to make you feel a lot of different
emotions.
20. Camera settings
• For my camera settings I am going to use the normal camera settings that are used in movie
trailers. The aspect ratio is going to be 1920 x 1080, and I am going to filming at 30fps. I am doing
this because it is the same frame rate that most movie trailers use, and it makes it look more
cinematic. However, for the slow-motion shots that I am going to get I am going to have to film in
either 1080p at 60fps or 720p 60fps depending on which camera I am going to be using. For the
ISO I am going to try and use the lowest ISO possible. This is because the trailer is going to be on
the darker side and for this reason there could be a lot of noise in a lot of the shots because it's
going to be dark and if I have a higher ISO there is going to be more noise and the lower, I have
the ISO the less noise there is going to be, and the quality is going to look better. However, I also
need to make sure that the ISO is high enough that you can see what is going on and that it's not
going to be too dark. My aperture is going to keep changing throughout filming because I will
have to make it higher the lower that I have my ISO. However, for all my close-up shots I am going
to want to have a lower aperture to make sure that only my subject is in focus and that most of
the shot is out of focus. I am going to make sure that my shutter speed is high because I prefer
the way that it looks for film trailers as there is less motion blur. I think that motion blur is mostly
used for documentaries and comedies and films use a higher shutter speed. However, this means
that the camera is going to let less light in and for this reason I am going to have the change the
aperture and ISO accordingly, so I am going to have to be constantly changing them.
22. Health and safety
Problem How to overcome it
Tripping over cables Make sure that all the cables are either taped to the
ground or make sure that they are out of the area that
people walk.
Eye strain from screens Make sure to take a break and stand up every half an
hour and go for a walk.
Electric shock Make sure that nobody goes nera the batteries or
plugs and make sure that when somebody does that
there is no water nearby.
23. Contingency planning
Problem Solution
Covid-19 I have already had to make a new project and stop the other one that
I had planned, and I was going to make become it became impossible
to make due to the covid restrictions so I have planned this and made
sure that even if harsher restrictions come back again, I will still be
able to make this trailer. I have made sure that I will be able to make it
at home and the people that I live with.
No internet access If I have no internet access, I will still be able to make what I want to
make however I will struggle to upload and I will have to wait until I
get back to college before I can submit so it will shorten my time scale
that I have to film.
Camera battery runs out of charge I can bring a spare battery. If that one runs out too then I will have to
plan filming for another day.
No access to a computer If this happens then I will have to plan all my production days around
my college days because that would be the only way that I could edit.
Save fails I will save my files in three different places each time so that if one
fails, I can use my other two and I have back ups.
