Factual Proposal

Student Name and Number: Amy Watson (363933)
Project proposal title and date: Autism At First Sight (6/10/20)
Main area of activity
Video
Target Audience
This video is for ages 16-24 years as I have gathered that when you develop or evolve a little later in
life, you start to understand autism more after key learning. Because there are both genders portrayed
within this video, this video is suitable for both genders because after much research, autism has
been identified to affect both genders. I will include both male and female cast to assure the audience
that autism is not gender biased and does not affect one gender alone. In terms of psychographics,
the ideal group to whom this video would fall on is the category of belonger because this is a very
personal video and belongers are said to respond to messages that are family or community oriented
and that they will be loyal to the product, so when it comes to autism, they would be loyal to people
with autism who need to be understood. I will include the feeling of support and love through the
product by showing clips of family love and time together to show the devotion that the belongers
searchfor. For social status, this film is dedicated towards the BC1 class, in other words, the lower
middle class and the skilled working class groups, This is because mainly my parents work in jobs
such as the hospital and lorry driving and I know that social status is determined by the head of the
household’s job. As for geodemographics, this video will be filmed in my home area which is
Wilberfoss, York, so the people of my home are working class in a skilled way and we all have similar
jobs and vacancies in some way since we all live in similar ways in the village.
In terms of primary and secondary audiences, my main audience would be the said audience above,
who seem to show a beginning knowledge of the condition or even a full knowledge depending on
their level on understanding of the condition. As for the secondary audience, younger children aged
13-15 may also become mesmerised by the condition’s interesting history as well as its effects on
individuals, and also not forgetting how autism can help make a positive future for the person. This
will also certainly be educational for those under the age of 16, they may even need to researchthe
condition for a possible project at school, so if they do need to find out more of the condition, then
this is the video to seek.
Finally, for the topic of Uses and Gratifications, the topic is broken down into four sections:
Information
Because the video is educational, it will mostly be used for researchand education and I would
imagine that most of the audience will likely be using it as a learning resource. To keep the audience
interested I will make sure the video is also entertaining and exciting. It will help the audience feel
prepared for when they see a person displaying the symptoms of autism.
Personal Identity
My video may have some effect on the behaviour of the audience. I am hoping that my video has a
positive effect and makes the audience feel more empathetic towards those who have autism. More
importantly, I am hoping that this video will help people with autism or not understand the basics of
the condition and how to adapt it.
Integration & Social Interaction
My video will probably show the audience that people with autism belong in society, the same as
everyone else, and they have a place in our hearts.
Entertainment
This video will provide some entertaining and exciting elements such as tense scenes but will also
use educational words to inform the audience.

Rationale:
Since I’ve only just startedthe second year of level 3, I guess I could reflect back on my developed
skills from year 1. Throughout the last year, I developed deeper skills based on film editing and special
effects such as PNGs over layers of clips. This was an example taken from when I composed my
music video for one of my projects, where I took a picture of my late dog and cut the picture out to
make a PNG. I will use said skill to create a rather serious atmosphere for my video within the
meltdown action sequence. I will use a PNG to show the fighting in a cartoon way, and adding GIFs on
top of reallife action footage.
Project Concept:
The concept for my video is basically an educational video about autism and what to expect
from it and also how to accept and understand it. The video will include vocal opinions from
my parents who are the parents of an autistic person: me. Also within the video, there will
be some clips based on what they say, basically a visual version of what my parents have
said. I have conducted research such as finding reviewsbased on past films, web series
reviews to as well as questionnaires from anonymous sources which are useful for making
sure my product appeals to my audience. It will help me with my project in a way where the
reviews will help me gain a momentum of confidence and reassurance of over what my
video will turn out like and what to expect from it. As well as the topic of autism, I will also
include the power of love through understanding autism and how we can accept people with
autism no matter how big the issue may be. The power of love is key in understanding
autism and by doing so, we can achieve.
How will the project be evaluated and reviewed:
After the project is completed, I will evaluate by gathering people’s opinions and thoughts
on what they thought of the video and how it could be improved. I will also critically analyse
the aesthetic and technical qualities of my video to see how good it looks and in my
opinion, how it could be improved.
