What kind of media institution might distribute your
media product and why?
2. Bauer Media Group
My magazine is loosely based on the pre existing magazine Kerrang, this product is
produced by Bauer Media Group in Hamburg despite the magazine originating from the UK.
This company has produced a variety of magazines belonging to different genres, the
company also provides a variety of other products and services such as digital content,
radio, TV. Print houses, postal services, distribution and marketing services.
This company would be ideal for my product because it manages a portfolio of more than
600 magazines across 17 countries, this means that they have experience with the
production and distribution of magazines. My main competition for this company would be
Kerrang because they are well established and have been with Bauer media Group for
years.
3. Anthem publishing
Another potential publisher could be ‘Anthem publishing’, this UK based publishing group are
responsible for magazines such as Food Heaven and Free-From Heaven, however the
group also produce music related content such as Classic Pop and Vintage Rock. This
company do not produce any modern rock magazines which could be a new venture for
them (using my product), they are well known in the UK as Britain’s second largest
independent food magazine publisher so reader would notice a new magazine from this
company because of its large number of readers.
My only product competition from Anthem Publishing would be MusicTech, this is the UK’s
largest multi-platform audience of any music-making magazine. However I do believe that
my product would be accepted and open new pathways for the company.
4. Overall
Overall I would select ‘Anthem Publishing’ because it does not have much
competition for my product due to there not being any major modern rock
magazines being produced by them, this means that my product will be published
and sold without much competition from within the institution. Using ‘Anthem’
would also make it a popular release in the UK because ‘Anthem’ already produce
many well known magazines that are read across the UK.
