1. 3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and
why?
Which companies might distribute your magazine e.g. IPC, Emap, Bauer?
Do they already distribute magazines from a similar genre?
One company that might be able to distribute my magazine ‘Ragnarock’ would be the
media company the Bauer Media Group
The Bauer Media Group is a multimedia group and has acquired a large collection of
media brands. This includes Heat and Grazia as well as a portfolio of radio brands such
as KISS FM UK and Magic.
However the 2 most noteworthy brands relevant to my magazine that the Bauer Media
Group owns are two music magazines in the rock genre which are Q and Kerrang!
As both of these brands are very successful magazines in the rock genre it shows that
Bauer clearly has experience and knowledge about how to distribute Rock music
magazines and will be able to make the most profit out of my brand. As well as this if I
were to go to another company to ask if they can distribute my magazine then my brand
would be in competition to two major brands Q and Kerrang! And would most likely be
shut down immediately because of how great the competition is, however by going to
Bauer these magazines are no longer competition as since Bauer owns both brands they
would be able to collaborate with one another and help each other out.
Also as Bauer isn’t known for just its media magazines there are also ways to create
synergy with my brand Ragnarock and other brands that Bauer has published which will
help in expanding the Ragnarock brand.
Another good company to choose to publish my magazine would be Time Inc. Uk
formerly known as IPC.
Time Inc owns a large variety of magazines including Now, Country Life and TV Weekly
and own over 60 iconic media brands. The most relevant brand Time Inc owns however
is NME.
NME is a similar music genre to my brand Ragnarock as NME is largely associated with
rock, alternative and indie music whereas my magazine is just purely rock.
Due to the genre similarity Time Inc would most likely be able to use the experience
the company used from publishing NME and the many other music magazines brands
that the company it’s published in order to successfully distribute Ragnarock.
