Darwin s Theory Of Natural Selection
Introduction The most well known summarization for what evolution is, is a change in genetic
makeup (phenotype makeup) of a population over time; or a change in allele frequencies in a
population over time (College Biology, 2014, p. 513). Darwin s theory of natural selection says that
organisms have great potential fertility, natural resources are very limited, variation in phenotypes
exists among individuals within a species, natural populations naturally remain constant and consistent
in size, and traits (an observable or measurable characteristic) that an organism holds are heritable
(College Biology, 2014 p. 486 489). Darwin s postulates include four things: there is variation of traits
in populations, traits are heritable, there are more individuals born than can survive or reproduce, and
survival and reproduction depends on traits which lead to the change in average value of traits over
time. In any color that is on an insect or animal is partially determined by the genes that it inherits
from its parents. The colors that an insect or animal exhibits can be very beneficial to them if it allows
them to be camouflaged (a way to disguise or blend in with surroundings) amongst their environment
or inside of their habitat. A well known example of camouflage is when coal smoke had darkened
trees in England, the light peppered moths that were once camouflaged so well, suddenly became very
noticeable, so population decreased since predators were finding them easier;

The Best Laptops For College Students
Today, the world has the technology to reinvent the learning process as well as the school process.
Everyday students lug 20 pound backpacks to school carrying everything from notebooks and binders
to textbooks. Throughout the day students must carry this weight around, which can cause back issues
in the future. All that dead weight could be replaced by a single device, a notebook personal
computer(PC). The average PC can weigh as little as 1.25 pounds according to Dennis McCafferty in
Computers In The Classroom Want to learn the abc s of the mobile computing space? and can carry
enormous amounts of data. There are many forms of notebook computers, Laarni Ragaza provides a
well developed review of different computers and how they work with educational services in her
article The Best Laptops for College Students. Integrating PC s into the school program will allow
students to directly connect with their teachers, assignments, textbooks, and notes all on one device, in
a much more efficient and organized manner. This negates the need for the cluttered backpacks and
lockers students have to scramble through to find their assignments. Having PCS on hand will allow
students and teachers to connect instantaneously to transfer assignments and go over lesson plans. The
PC s will also enable students to connect to the internet, allowing them to further research the topic at
hand. With PCs students can have a more immersive and orderly learning environment. PC s should

Dissatisfaction with Society Revealed in Yeats’ Stolen Child
Dissatisfaction with Society Revealed in Yeats Stolen Child
The Stolen Child, a poem by W.B. Yeats, relates the story of a child who is lured away by fairies to a
fantasy world illustrated through rich descriptions of nature and the freedom it offers. The plot of the
poem becomes a metaphor for the return to innocence that the author feels is necessary in a society
that is attempting to lead children away from the mysticism and innocence that characterize childhood,
toward a more mundane reality as an adult. With his vivid descriptions and use of extended metaphor,
Yeats is able to create a world unaffected by time, in stark contrast to the world in which we live, to
illustrate his dissatisfaction with reality.

The island could also be symbolic of the womb, a watery environment that protected the developing
child from the world. This imagery would support Yeats message that we must rekindle the innocence
and abandon of our youth, which has been controlled and limited by the confines of modern society.
The use of rushing water as a symbol of freedom continues in the third stanza where Yeats describes
how the wandering water gushes... in pools among the rushes (28).
In the final stanza, Yeats draws his most striking contrast of all to illustrate his message. He does this
by following the descriptions of nature in its wildest form, of the previous stanzas, with those of the
domestic atmosphere from which the child is being taken, in this stanza. Initially, Yeats established the
setting of the poem in the first stanza by describing a place Where flapping herons wake / The drowsy
water rats (5). This is contrasted in this stanza with images of calves on the warm hillside / Or the
kettle on the hob / Or... the brown mice (45). Calves, kettles, and mice are all images that are
associated with a domestic farm or a country home. Thus, this imagery is being used to portray how
modern society has enslaved nature, controlling its freedom. Water rats and herons, on the other hand,
are both wild and free animals that are found near water, the symbol

The First Day Of English Class
I look the first debate judge in the eyes and he nods. Then my gaze drifts to the second one and she
smiles. Finally I look to my right at my final judge, he simply winks at me. I close my eyes and count
to three. It s finally time to begin; this is my time. These next three minutes everyone has to listen to
me and my opinion. I open my mouth, but the only thought going through my head is, why? Why am I
doing this? Why am I here? Why did I make this mistake?
It was the first day of English class and the teacher asked, who here has ever given a class presentation
before? I looked around hoping, praying, that someone else is like me. However fate was not on my
side. Every hand in the class was proudly raised high and I was all alone on my little island of fear.
The teacher looked directly at me and asked why I had not ever done a presentation. I m a clicker, I
mumbled, it was barely audible but the teacher heard it and his face softened. Well Mr. Peschansky it s
time you become a talker.
A psychological study done in the early 70 s found that people are more afraid of public speaking then
of death. Standing at the front of the room in my first debate tournament I realize just how true that is.
All I can hear is my heart hammering away in my chest, my legs feel like they are going to give and I
m shaking all over.
I never opened my mouth when I was in grade school. I was the kid that was always reading. If my
head was not buried in a book then something was probably

Jurassic Park Quotes
Hammond states this to Dr. Wu in the chapter, Bungalow. In this quote Hammond refuses to face the
reality of how unsafe his park is, even though countless amount of evidence is set in front him. Not to
mention he also refuses to believe that the dinosaurs have found a way to breed despite of the
scientists precautions. Between his stubbornness and old age we observe that Hammond is actually out
of his mind. Later on, after the island is in pieces and most of the staff is dead, Hammond still believes
that he still/should build another Jurassic Park. Though in the beginning the novel vilified Nerdy,
Hammond emerges as the real villain of the story with his abuse of the scientific power. This quote
helps you understand who the real protagonist and real antagonist are. Nerdy was just a pod in the
author s game, to figure whose fault is. (Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. Chapter Bungalow) ...

Diverse Personal Encounters With Non State Armed Actors
Diverse personal encounters with non state armed actors animate my research agenda, and I seek to
discern the meaning of a picture formed by pieces of a puzzle collected during my years of military
service. As a peacekeeper in Kosovo, I witnessed how a random rifle shot could spark a series of
reprisals across invisible lines that separated villages. My soldiers and I were almost powerless to stop
them. On one hand, our legal mandate prevented our ability to take direct action. One the other, we
understood so little about our adversaries we did not fully know which action to take. Subsequent
experiences leading soldiers during counterinsurgency efforts in both Iraq and Afghanistan immersed
me again in the turmoil created by overlapping networks of non state armed groups competing for
economic, social, and political power. Each incident revealed another piece of the puzzle, but the
picture it formed remained unclear. I started to wonder if the pieces actually fit, or if I was putting
them together incorrectly. I intuitively sensed the ascendant role of non state armed actors in Kosovo.
However, my experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan crystalized in me the desire to explore the broader
political and social ramifications of the rising influence of non state armed groups. I began to ponder
the strategic impact of their decisions and actions on the long term evolution of political institutions.
What are the consequences when local political elites try to incorporate

Why Prejudice Is Wrong
What is prejudice? Prejudice is believing someone else is wrong or right based on one key factor like
skin color, gender, level, etc. Personally I think prejudice is wrong, but a large majority of the world
says otherwise. Prejudice dates back to practically the beginning of time whether it was when the
ancient Romans enslaved millions of people or in the 1700 and 1800 hundreds when black slaves were
traded bought and sold all over America, or 1933 to 1945 during the holocaust. Many people think that
prejudice and racism are gone but everywhere you turn you can find something prejudice happening
whether it be here or in different countries. In our current society it is still quite a big deal. For
example, all of the black lives matter protests

Moonrise Kingdom Analysis
The film, Moonrise Kingdom, follows the story of two 12 year olds in New England, Sam and Suzy,
who run away together to an island in order to pursue their loving relationship. A search party for the
pair ensues before chaos can erupt due to an oncoming storm.
A theme throughout the movie that stood out to me was the contrast of child fantasy and reality. Suzy
and Sam both suffer with dysfunctional and loveless relationships, Sam being an orphan, and Suzy
struggling with feeling accepted in her family, and surrounded by parents that do not love each other.
In order to escape their hardships, they turn to running away together. They form their idea of paradise
in doing this, being able to disregard their family situations, and create a bond that they would have
otherwise never had with anybody else before. I found the idea of the cove they run away together to,
and the techniques Anderson combines with it, a very interesting concept. The cove is supposed to be
a symbol of perfection and familiarity for the young lovers, but Anderson uses the impending storm to
show that love, even in its purest form, is never flawless. I found this very intriguing, and thought
provoking since a lot of people do describe love as perfect, and that being in love is the best time of
your life. I noticed, in order to emphasise his point, Anderson used dark clouds and grey skies while
they were on their paradise island, whereas typical romance movies would have bright blue, sunshine

Examples Of Mutiny In The Odyssey
But in my heart I never gave consent (Homer 895). These words of Odysseus perfectly describe how
loyalty is portrayed in the Odyssey. By illustrating the act of mutiny, Odysseus men are disloyal with a
deathly punishment. Through the acts of cheating and mutiny, the main characters of The Odyssey are
expressed as disloyal.
To begin with, Odysseus becomes disloyal to Penelope, conveying the act of cheating. In The
Odyssey, Odysseus is found landing on Ogygia, becoming affectionate towards Calypso. To support
this statement the text states, He has spent ten years (seven of them as Calypso s not entirely unwilling
captive) (Homer 891). Odysseus, having some power in the situation, decides to sleep with Calypso.
Therefore, Odysseus becomes disloyal to Penelope. After, Odysseus accompanies Circe, falling for her
through persuasion for three more years, remaining disloyal. The text states, After many seasons of
feasting and other pleasures (Homer 913). Moreover, Odysseus remains persistent to be disloyal by

Odysseus exhausted men land on Thrinacia, the island of the sun god, Helios. Finishing the last of

sea once and for all then waste to skin and bones on a lonely island (Homer 923). Through the act of
mutiny, Odysseus men agree with Eurylochus and eat one of Helios s cattle. To support this statement,
Helio s exclaimes, O Father Zeus and gods in bliss forever, punish Odysseus men! So overweening,
now they have killed my peaceful kine, my joy at morning when I climb the sky of stars, and evening,
when I bore westward from heaven (Homer 924). Therefore, Odysseus men portray disloyalty when

The Purpose Of Professional Public Relations
Introduction
For some people public relations is a very important, strategic element in the smooth and effective
function of the company. As Baines, 2004 stated: The purpose of professional public relations is to
create understanding. It is unlike advertising, whose main aim is to generate awareness and sales, or
propaganda, whose aim is to suggest what individuals should believe. (Baines et al., 2004, p.6)
Throughout my report I will be focusing on Pedigree company one brand from the large corporate,
giant Mars, Incorporated as well. I will be assessing how they use Public Relations techniques to
present and manage their image and reputation as a large corporation. Pedigree is one of the world s
largest and the most recognizable dog food producer. Their products carry a wide range of different
tastes. This ranges from dry to wet foods (canned to pouched) and is intended for puppies as well as
adult dogs. The versatile of products give the opportunity to even the most demanding customer to
help them find the perfect taste for their canine friend.
PUBLIC RELATIONS TECHNIQUES
As the dog food market grows, competition also grows for Pedigree. This is because many
competitors and some unsatisfied customers will constantly try to ruin Pedigrees image in the public
eye. Subsequently this pushes Pedigree to use PR techniques in order to help the company sustain a
strong position in the market and help maintain a good growing image and reputation. In

Improving HTTP Performance Using Stateless TCP
Improving HTTP Performance Using Stateless TCP In this paper a server side approach is made
which can reduce processing load per connection. The advantages of running web servers over a basic
transport protocol that is similar to TCP are studied here. The stateless TCP for HTTP decreases the
kernel resources required per TCP connection. So it increases the number of client initiated HTTP
connections per second. Stateless TCP modifications decreases the server s CPU usage and other TCP
memory requirements. This helps to serve small webpages under overloaded situations. Two
Algorithms (David A Hayes, Improving http performance using stateless tcp, 2011) are mentioned that
show the basic operation of stateless TCP, one for incoming packets and one for outgoing packets
from server. These include few rules to react to incoming control packets and also information to deal
with application data. Algorithm 1: incoming Every TCP packet is captured which arrives at port 80
and following operations are performed, 1. If it s a TCP SYN packet, send back a TCP SYN/ACK 2. If

Essay on Working Conditions of Children in Textile Mills
Working Conditions of Children in Textile Mills
After thorough investigation into 5 sources referring to the working conditions for children in factories
during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, we now have the opportunity to bind all the
facts together and create a detailed account. However, there are still questions over the reliability of
some of the sources, so further research and comparisons with other mills need to be made. Making
comparisons will also indicate the typicality of Styal. Hopefully, by the end of this essay I will be able
to prioritise the best way of finding out about the treatment of children in textile mills.

This makes us think that the workers are in fear of being sacked, which they couldn t afford to do with
the lack of jobs in the area, so therefore say what Greg wants them too. We also get the impression
that Samuel Greg is always present, as if to make sure the employees do as they are asked. We are also
told that, ...everyone well paid, comfortable... , ...fine machinery... and ...excellent lunch... which
makes us wonder whether Samuel Greg is only showing the good points. Frederick Engles thinks that
it was in fact a staged visit and that all the bad conditions were kept hidden. He suggests that Greg s
factory was a mockery . Engle s uses a sarcastic tone for this source, which backfired as there are
some positive comments. Finally, the source is very generalised, which suggests it may have been a
hypothetical visit, meaning Engles could be saying what could happen?
The second source referred to child labour at Quarry Bank Mill in 1833. My source is an extract from
an interview between the superintendents who looked after Greg s apprentices at Quarry Bank Mill

were treated. The fact that this is just an extract from the interview makes us wonder what was said in
the rest of it. If this extract was taken

Surgical Technician Research Paper
Surgical Technologist
What is life like for a surgical technician? This is a common question asked for many students
wanting to pursue a career in surgical technology. I have always liked to learn about how our body
functions. Being able to see what our bodies are capable of excites me. I chose this topic because I
want to know more about this career before I decide what major I want to do for college.
I don t know much about surgical technology but, I do know that I could complete some of the
schooling here in Austin ,Minnesota at the local college. Surgical techs assist the doctors during
surgery. It takes a minimum of two years to become a surgical technologist. They stand in one area for
hours. I don t know anyone who is a surgical tech so I don t have any background or experience in this
field.
With wanting to pursue a career in surgical technology I have many questions. First, What is there
hourly pay? Second, How many years of college does it take to become a surgical tech? Third, What
are there daily job duties? Fourth, What is the average amount of hours per week? Finally, Do they

Training Employees On Hazardous Materials. Hazardous...
Training Employees on Hazardous Materials Hazardous materials are a very important part of our
environment and workplace. They can cause environmental issues or they could even cause hurt to
humans and animals. However, HAZMAT is needed for production in some workplaces. There are
many businesses that do not train their employees properly or not at all on hazardous materials.
Anyone transferring, using, touching, or working with hazardous materials should be trained so they
know what to do in case of a serious incident. Not even that, it is just important to know what kind of
hazardous material they are transporting. There are a lot of safety incidents in workplaces that are

p.).
There were 14 employees who did not have any training on HAZMAT. There is also another incident
that states a company failed to properly train their employees on how to properly package and label
HAZMAT product which caused acceptance of cargo on an airplane that should have not been
accepted. These are just a couple of incidents that discussed in this press release. If those employees
would have been trained, there may not have been a safety incident that caused fines to these
companies. The worst part is, is the employees had no idea what to do in any of these incidents. They
could have been hurt or even caused harm against others and it would not have necessarily been their
fault. One way to reduce these incidents is risk management. Risk management is a program to reduce
risks in a business in any way possible by forecasting and evaluating. According to the US Department
of Transportation, the Hazardous Materials Safety Program is, designed to reduce the probability and
quantity of hazardous material released and mitigate release consequences (DOT, 1998, p. 4). This
program gives guidelines as well as consequences. It gives ideas for future and how to plan for an
incident. This guideline also gives ideas of developing the risks and how safe can you be and is there
any other plans to use to become safer. It is always a good idea to be as safe as possible and you can
never be safe enough.

The Negative Impact Of African-American Women On College...
Statement of Problem
African American women have not received much consideration in the literature although they are a
rising presence on college campuses (Strayhorn Johnson, 2014). In fact, nationally 4 million women
are enrolled in community colleges, 36% are African American raising children alone, in which adds
additional challenges in improving persistence and graduation (Goldrick Rab Sorensen, 2011, Institute

affordable daycare, have problems balancing their family and work responsibilities, and are more
likely to drop out due to financial issues (Kuh, Kinzie, Buckley, Bridges, Hayek, 2006, Goldrick Rab
Sorensen, 2011, Rose Hill, 2013). Furthermore, in an examination of six year completion results from

Etiology Of Schizophrenia Essay
Schizophrenia is a mental illness which affects the lives of the individual, their families and society
(Murray Lopez, 1996). The term Schizophrenia is often utilized to describe a major psychotic disorder
that alters the way an individual think, feels or acts (NCCMH, 2010). It is often worth noting that each
person who develops this mental illness possess their own unique combinations of symptoms and
experiences. Schizophrenia has been the subject of an ongoing controversy regarding its etiology and
treatment. Biological, environmental and social factors play a pivotal role in understanding
Schizophrenia and determining the outcomes. An individual suffering from Schizophrenia are usually
defined by the presence of delusions, hallucinations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research that has been conducted so far has attempted to determine the role of biological,
psychological and social factors but unfortunately, evidence does not point to any single factor.
Literature suggests that the etiology of schizophrenia and related psychoses results from a complex
interaction of multiple factors (Broome et al., 2005; Garety et al., 2007). Nuechterlein Dawson (1984)
suggest that much of the conducted research on the etiology of schizophrenia is consistent with the
vulnerability stress model. The vulnerability stress explains that individuals have different levels of
vulnerability to the mental illness schizophrenia. These levels are determined by the interaction
between biological, social and psychological factors. The research of Neuchterlein Dawson (1984)
proposed that vulnerability results in the development of problems if there was a presence of
environmental stressors. This proposal states that if there is great vulnerability, low levels of stress
might be sufficient to cause problems. On the other hand, if an individual possess less vulnerability,
problems only arise with higher levels of stress. Although the etiology of schizophrenia is not well
understood, this model is consistent with a variety of putative causes of this mental disorder, in
addition to the differential relapse and readmission rates that are overserved among people suffering
from

Feminism Throughout The Decades
Fight for Your Rights: Feminism Throughout the Decades
Women have historically had a rocky relationship with governmental, cultural, religious, and social
rights. The Women s Rights movement has been in effect since approximately 1792, with the
publication of the first feminist work, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, by British writer Mary
Wollstonecraft ( Women s Rights Movement ). While social changes have occurred and more
progressive laws have been put into place throughout the years, there is still not equality between the
sexes. Additionally, gender roles in different countries differ greatly. The purpose of this paper is to
highlight the major causes and concerns of the Women s Rights movements throughout the decades, as
well as denote the differences between more progressive societies and their less accepting
counterparts.
There have been many causes that lead to the Women s Rights movement. Though the focus of these
movements have progressed with time and brought about different waves, the primary cause that
initiated the need for the Women s Rights movement was simply the fact that women were historically
considered second class citizens. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Effect Of Magnetic Permeability On The Magnetic Field
Aeromagnetic Data
Theory
Scalar aeromagnetic data comprise both induced and remanent magnetic fields. Induced magnetism is
caused by the earth s magnetic field and is mainly the result of the magnetic susceptibility of the rock.
Magnetic susceptibility is expressed as a unit less proportionality constant denoted by an International
System of Units (SI), which reflects the susceptibility of a rock to become magnetized in the presence
of a magnetic field. This susceptibility is mainly a function of the rock s magnetite content. In general,
higher susceptibility rocks produce greater variability in magnetic amplitudes than low susceptibility
counterparts (Ford et al. 2008; Anderson et al. 2013; Table 2).The remanent component is a function
of the magnetic, mechanical, and thermal history of a rock and is not affected by the inducing
magnetic field in which it is measured. In most cases, the induced component of the magnetic field is
predominant. However, remanent magnetization is commonly dominant in igneous rocks (Anderson et
al. 2013) which can result in negative polarization and subsequent negative amplitude magnetic lows.
Structural Interpretation of Aeromagnetic Data
Aeromagnetic data indicate the OB is bound to the north by the Quetico fault and to the south by the
Vermillion and Rainy Lake Seine River faults (Fig. 3, Fig. 4). The geometry of regional faults
suggests the OB occurs in a pressure shadow of a large sigma shaped wedge of volcanoplutonic rocks

Good Morning Vietnam Analysis
In Good Morning Vietnam, the movie shows the story Adrian Cronauer and his experience as a radio
DJ in 1965 Vietnam. In the movie, Adrian is a witty and impulsive comic that likes to do his own
thing which does not go over well with the General Major who is in charge. However, Adrian s
comedy and wit help to make his radio shows entertaining for the troops and he becomes respected
among many of the men in the army. Although Adrian is censored, he still tried to inform the troops
and went against the normal protocol. Good Morning Vietnam gives a unique look into the war and
shows the frustration of both sides. The only villains that seem to arise are the ones who hold Adrian
back or the ones who are confused and angry at the misfortunate that had fallen upon their home in
Vietnam. Overall, this movie showed the good and bad sides of the war while also giving an inside
look into the experience of one man. The movie helped to showcase the main themes of conflict in
war, censorship of the news and events, and confusion among civilians and soldiers.
Although this movie does not showcase the time period using clothing or unique hairstyles, it reflects
the 60s through the different music that Adrian includes in his radio station. Adrian plays songs from
James Brown, the Beach Boys, and references icons of the time such as the Beatles and the Rolling
Stones. The rebellious nature of the music reflects not only Adrian s attitude, but also the rebellion
against the war that took off

Cannonball Moment In Life
A cannonball moment. A moment that knocks you down, but shifts your life s direction and makes you
realize something special. Growing up as a child, my grandfather was much more than a grandfather,
he was my best friend. He was always smiling, always energized, and always willing to help anyone
with anything. Unfortunately, old age gets the best of us. As the years went on, his smile seemed to
disappear, his energy diminished, and he was unable to help anyone anymore due to his physical
condition. He was recently diagnosed with kyphosis of the neck and spinal stenosis. Kyphosis and
spinal stenosis both decrease the function of your neck and spine. My grandfather used to be able to
stand up straight, but now his back has almost curved at a ninety degree angle with his legs. Each time
I visit my grandfather, it pains me to see his condition get worse and worse. His pain feels like my
pain. He attends physical therapy every week and wears a back brace every day, but there is only so
much that can be done. If a highly accredited doctor of physical therapy could barely help my
grandfather, how could I? How could I allow myself to sit on the sidelines as my grandfather loses the
ability to stand? Why did God allow for this to happen? These are the kinds of questions I ponder on a
daily basis. However, last year I pondered different kinds of questions, the dreadful common app
questions. I starred senselessly through the computer screen as I read the words, Choose your major .

Polonius Murder In William Shakespeare s Hamlet
Hamlet will not produce Polonius s body when asked because he wants to get under the King s skin
and irritate him. Later, this also confirms to Hamlet that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern were still
working for the King, and to provoke Claudius, so he can confide in Horatio. Hamlet gains an
additional reaction of paranoia and indignance from Claudius through disobeying him.
Ophelia s madness helps Claudius to further convince Laertes to kill Hamlet, blaming Ophelia s
madness and suicide on Hamlet s cruel manipulations. In addition, to Polonius murder via Hamlet.
This helps Claudius because he is toying with Laertes emotions and motives to achieve his own goal
of removing Hamlet out of the picture by having someone else kill the prince.
Laertes originally confronts Claudius because he suspects the King was involved in both his father and
sister s death. When he does this, Claudius shifts the blame on Hamlet, which leads the two of them to
plot Hamlet s death in order to avenge Laertes deceased family members.
Claudius encourages Laertes to exact revenge on Hamlet because he is suspicious of Hamlet. He s

Prison Reform Case Study
Institutional Context
The United States has reached a state of emergency in dealing with the opioid crisis. Change needs to
occur by decriminalizing all drugs. Decriminalization would look like reducing prison time as well as
expunging the criminal record of a minimal offender, the money that was previously used on jail
would now be used on rehabilitation. This hopeful policy will be brought to the institutional level of
the state, also known as the state legislature. The policy would be important to bring to this level
because the state has the power to reduce jail time for drug crimes, as well as change drug felonies to
misdemeanors*. A recent example of this state power has been seen in Oregon. Starting in July 2017
the state reduced jail ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bringing this policy to a state legislature, the biggest actor would be a state senator who represents
large districts that have high drug prevalence. As a resident of the State of Massachusetts, the greater
Lowell area has a high drug problem*. Lowell is represented by Democrat State Senator Eileen

facilities in the city*. Many members of the community who are aware of the opioid crisis are hoping
to change the way Lowell is perceived*. The influence of both citizens and Senator Donoghue would
help set decriminalization up to succeed in the community. Based on research Senator Donoghue will
prefer the policy on complete drug decriminalization. Donoghue will prefer this policy because she
has signed on bills and made active contributions towards a criminal reform*. Her recent bill to reform
criminal justice aligns similarly to what the new policy has suggested; with votes coming up soon,
Senator Donoghue may be looking for something to win voters over. The status quo would mean

The Life Of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
John Dickson Carr writes an extensive biography The Life of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. With a
combination of the biography and Adler s Individual Psychology one can paint a picture of who this
famous man really was. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was born on May 22nd of 1859 to Charles Doyle and
Mary Foley in Edwardian England, he was the third child but first boy born to the young couple.
Eventually they had 9 children in all, 7 of which made it into adulthood and 2 of those were male.
Mary adored young Arthur and filled his head with romantic stories of their Irish heritage. She was a
vivacious woman full of family pride. Charles Doyle was a seemingly depressed alcoholic that did not

The family was actually Catholic; Arthur and his siblings had been raised in this religion. While
Arthur excelled at school, he found the classes dry and uninspiring. He loved history but in a more
romantic and descriptive fashion, the type of history found in his favorite book, Ivanhoe. He believed
that the teachers, who were Fathers, of the school undervalued his talent and that the teachers did not
like or respect him. The belief was erroneous; the teachers at his school, Stonyhurst, knew how
intelligent and talented Arthur was but also how stubborn he could be. This is exemplified by his
constant and intentional rule breaking that lead to severe punishments he endured to simply prove that
he was strong and unbreakable. Even with his troublemaking approach, Arthur made it through the
school with top marks. After his time at Stonyhurst the Ma am insisted he continue on into medical

the theory Arthur s life can be illustrated.
Alder s personality theory is called Individual Psychology, it has an emphasis on how culture and

Tuberculosis Is A Disease Caused By The Bacteria Tubercle...
Introduction:
Tuberculosis is a disease caused by the bacteria tubercle bacilli (NSW Health 2014). It is one of
mankind s oldest infections and has plagued humans throughout recorded and archaeological history
(Encyclopaedia Britannica 2014). Tuberculosis comes in an infectious and disease form. The
infectious form is the result of contraction of TB bacteria that remains dormant and is neither
symptomatic nor contagious. The disease form of TB is caused by active TB bacteria and results in the
contagious and fatal tuberculosis disease.
History of Tuberculosis
Tubercle bacilli emerged as a pathogen from East Africa, and as people migrated so did the disease.
Tuberculosis lesions contain acid fast bacilli which have been found in Egyptian and Peruvian
mummies (Schlossberg page 97). From these findings, historians and microbiologists have concluded
that mycobacterium is millions of years old.
Physiology of mycobacterium:
Tubercle bacilli is a type of mycobacterium. Its prototrophic, metabolically flexible membrane (US
National Library of Medicine 2008) enables it to metabolize and reproduce without specific
substances, increasing its speed of replication and infection. The tubercle bacilli s rod shape enables it
to withstand a combination of selective pressures (Kerseik K 2013), including nutrient access and
predation. Nutrient absorption is maximised by the cell s ability to match increases in cell size by
increasing its cell length. This maintains its high surface

Alkaloids are nitrogencontaining basic compounds that are found in plants. They usually taste bitter
and often are physiologically active in humans. The names of some of these compounds are familiar to
you even if the structures aren t: nicotine, morphine, strychnine, and cocaine. The role or roles these
compounds play in the life of the plants in which they are found is not well understood. In some cases
they may act as pesticides; nicotine is found in tobacco and has been sprayed onto other plants, in
which it is not found, to function as an insecticide. The structure of caffeine is shown to the right. It ...

The Theory Of General Strain Theory Essay
Introduction
In the 1980 s, Criminologist, Robert Agnew, presented his theory of general strain, in which he covers
a range of negative behaviors, especially how adolescents deal with stresses of strain. General strain
theory focuses on the source, such as anything that changes in the individual s life that causes strain.
His theory provides a different outlook on social control and social learning theory for two reasons:
the type of social relationship that leads to delinquency and the motivation for the delinquency
(Agnew, 1992). He states that certain strains and stresses increase the likelihood for crime such as
economic deprivation, child abuse, and discrimination. These factors can cause an increase of crime
through a range of negative emotions. For some people it can take a lot of willpower to take a
corrective action and try to deter away from committing crime in a way that they can relieve these
negative emotions. When people cannot cope with the stresses of the strain, they turn to crime as a
coping mechanism. Agnew also states, that not all people that experience the stresses of strain will go
forward to committing crime and live a deviant life.
Agnew assumes that all people of all social classes experience and deal with frustration when
experiencing a great amount of stress. The general strain theory bridges the gap between the poor and
the rich. The stresses of strain is a universal feeling that every individual experiences at some point in
time of their life.

back at. So as Danny sprinted up the hill to the deck where the flag was, my dad chased after him.
When Danny got into range my dad lit the firework taped onto his hand and let it go. The firework
flew out of his hand like a bullet out of a gun. My dad got what he wanted and a lot more. The
firework struck Danny right in the middle of his back. Not only did it burn Danny s back it melted his
shirt to it! Poor Danny just dropped to the ground crying and bawling his eyes out. When they heard
the crying the parents all rush out of the house to see what was going on they say Danny laying on the
ground with his shirt melted to his back. They started yelling at my dad, especially my Grandpa Blake
who said some colorful things. My dad also started to cry because only being ten and all he was still a
little kid. Well at least one good thing came out of it, Trent oblivious to what had just happened ran
and grabbed the flag from the other team and ran back to his side. At least they won the game right.

Exploring Whether All Morality Should Reduce to Respecting...
Kantian Ethics states that all morality can be reduced to respecting autonomy. This theory has faced
criticisms as well as support. Its most plausible idea is that autonomous agents are capable of making
their own decisions and even if their choices may not be the best for them, these choices should be
respected. However, criticisms of this theory include concerns such as 1) respecting autonomy is not
equivalent to respecting the autonomous agent, 2) the theory does not concern (or concerns very little)
with non autonomous agents such as children and non human animals, 3) it is implausible that
respecting autonomy is the only factor determining morality, and 4) respecting others autonomy does
not follow from respecting one s own autonomy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In response to this predicament, Rawls presents Contractualism, where what is right is what everyone
would agree to behind a Veil of Ignorance. While behind this veil, an individual is not aware of their
social class, sex, race, and any other psychological traits that may prevent one from making a fair
judgement. Prioritizing autonomies while behind the Veil of Ignorance can be presumed to be fair and
just. However, this theory is purely hypothetical and due to this fact, even if we can make ourselves be
unaware of our social class, sex, race, and other psychological traits choices made behind the veil
seem irrelevant to reality. Furthermore, agreement behind the Veil of Ignorance does not ensure that
the decision is actually permissive because people may agree to a sacrifice if the probability of it
happening to them is rare. For instance, people may agree to harvesting organs from healthy
individuals to save a greater number of individuals but this does not mean that this act is morally
permissible. I have presented how Rawls Contractualism fails to support Kantian Ethics which
required prioritizing between one s own autonomy against another s. Even if the problem of
conflicting autonomies were resolved, Kant s theory still faces criticisms such as the fact that the
theory does not respect an individual and their decisions as much as it respects autonomy, does not
efficiently discourage unequal cruelty to non autonomous agents, and does not imprint any value on

Reconstruction Vs Republican Reconstruction Essay
The Civil war came to an end in 1865 after the Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered to the
Union. The Civil War left a huge number of destructions along the way in the North and the South.
The North were required to reconstruct the Confederate States. And that caused the appearance of the
Reconstruction Era in 1865. It was a period in which Americans put the pieces together . People were
split after the Civil War, some wanted to reconstruct the Confederate states where it is politically and

hot spots all within walking distance from each other. Travel a little south and you will hit Mission
Beach, which offers all the perks of P.B. with the added luxury of Belmont Park. Keep heading south
and you will end up in Ocean Beach, a small community filled with vintage shops, dive bars, and
some wonderful undiscovered little cafes and restaurants. San Diego Bay is yet another popular
destination, known mainly for its ample water sports. And with neighboring mountain ranges in close
proximity, San Diego is ideal for avid skiers and snowboarders alike. The kiddos will enjoy the
famous San Diego Zoo, Wildlife Park, and Legoland. And adults will find a playground of their own
as the county also offers several Indian gaming sites, casinos and luxury

Rhetorical Analysis Of Ronald Reagan s Speech On The...
On January 28th, 1986, Ronald Reagan used his stature as president to show sympathy for the country
in the light of tragedy, in his speech entitled Speech on the Challenger Disaster. His main point
expounds on the importance of the Challenger Disaster in the history of space exploration. He
supports this claim by first explaining the effect the disaster had on the public, then offering his
sympathy for the families of the astronauts as well as the entire nation, and finally declaring that the
country must continue to explore space so the deaths of the astronauts were not in vain. Through
Reagan s use of rhetorical appeals, tone, and rhetorical tools he effectively persuades the American
people to maintain confidence in NASA and in space exploration, ... Show more content on

Reagan carefully chose his words during his speech on the Challenger Disaster, using specific
pronouns completely changed the way the country received the message. It was initiated when he said,
we ve never lost an astronaut in flight; we ve never had a tragedy like this (5). Later he also stated: We
ve grown used to the idea of space, and perhaps we forget that we ve only just begun (7). Reagan s use
of we throughout the speech shows the nation that even high figures such as celebrities and political
figure, in which Reagan represented both, also feel as the common people do in times of struggle and
devastation. Allowing the citizens of America a shoulder to cry on for a dark and challenging time in
the history of the country. Towards the end of the text Reagan started to create allusions for the
American people to compare the fallen astronauts to. Such as when Reagan stated: the great explorer
Sir Francis Drake died aboard ship off the coast of Panama. In his lifetime the great frontiers were the
oceans, and a historian later said, He lived by the sea, died on it, and was buried in it (10). Also he
makes reference to the religious figures at the end when he says, slipped the surly bongs of earth to
touch the face of God (11). Using these allusions, Reagan was able to effectively convince the
audience that the astronauts died for a reason and a cause, to expand our knowledge of space and
explore what it could possibly contain. In the case that Reagan had not given this speech it could be
possible that many people around the world would want to back off from exploring space because it
could kill people that attempt to travel into it. But Reagan s speech was able to revoke confidence in
NASA and other space programs, letting moms let their kids become astronauts and not saying no
because of how dangerous it could be.

Pros And Cons Of Virtue Ethics

Ethics in Public Private Life

Flaws of Aristotelian Virtue Ethics
When most think of philosophy a list of people come to mind. You have your greats such as Plato,
Nietzsche, and of course Aristotle. However, this does not mean that their ideas cannot be challenged
and questioned, as no one is above criticism. Aristotelian Virtue Ethics have a major flaw that strikes
at the heart of the idea. There is a severe lack of guidance both in what a virtue is, and what happens
when they conflict. The mains question is, is one virtue more important than another?
What is Aristotle s virtue ethics theory exactly? Aristotle was one of the first to describe this type of
theory and he based it largely on Eudaimonism. Eudaimonism bases virtues in human flourishing,
where flourishing is equated with performing one s distinctive function well (Virtue Ethics). For
humans, Aristotle believed that our main function is reasoning and to live well we would need to
reason well. The largest part of virtue ethics is the titular virtues that decide whether or not a person
was truly flourishing or not.
To first create an argument over the conflict of virtues one must first understand what makes a virtue a
virtue. In Aristotelian Virtue Ethics, a virtue is described as something a virtuous person does. In turn,
a virtuous person is someone who does virtuous acts. This is where a big issue arises in this theory.

Essay Aboriginal Customary Laws and Australian...
Aboriginal Customary Laws and Australian Contemporary Laws
Aboriginal customary laws, before white settlement in 1788, were considered primitive by the British,
if considered at all. But Aboriginal laws and customs had lasted hundreds of years, based on traditions
such as kinship ties and rituals.
These laws were formed by ancestors, spirits, and Aboriginal beliefs, and were passed down the
generations by word of mouth instead of written down. Being over 500 tribes (each with it s own
clans) in Australia at one point, there were many variations to their guidelines, customised to each area
of the land. Although the laws varied throughout the ages, this way of life remained until white
settlement.
The roots of Australian laws are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children were taught how to be proper children until they were old enough to be told their adult
customs.
Australian laws have two forms, public and private law. Public law is an individual versus the
Australian government, for example, criminal law, constitutional law and environmental law. It
involves public bodies, public matters and is the concern of everybody in Australia. Private law
involves disputes between private citizens or entities, for example, contract law, family law and
probate laws.
Traditional Aboriginal marriages were very different to English marriages and Australian marital laws
today. Aboriginal girls were to be married when they reached puberty, and were married to much older
men, who could marry (and have numerous wives) once a certain age. This meant that sex at a young
age was acceptable.
Australian law states that no person can legally marry until the age of 18, or have sex until the age of
16, and it is socially unacceptable for people to have numerous partners. Australian law declares under
age sex as child abuse and a criminal offence.
All Aboriginals were involved in their customs and laws, with rules being imposed by the
communities. Each clan was tight knit and respected their ancestry and customs.
Punishments varied, depending on the severity of the crime committed. Types of punishment included
revenge, social ridicule, ostracism, insulting, spearing (aimed at the leg, but sometimes resulted in
death) and death by

Depiction and Development of the Knight Hero in Wolfram...
Introduction
Wolfram von Eschenbach s epic poem Parzival stands as one of the richest and most profound literary
works to have survived from the middle ages. Lost in obscurity for centuries until rediscovered and
republished by Karl Lachmann in 1833, the poem enjoyed at least as great a popularity when it was
first composed as it does among today s readers: Some eighty manuscripts have been preserved, in
whole or in part, from Wolfram s era (Poag 40). Among the more intriguing aspects of the work is
Wolfram s handling of the depiction and development of two of the story s primary characters, the
knights Gahmuret and Parzival, father and son. Central to the action of the text from its inception, yet
never sharing a scene, these men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Background and General Characteristics of the Poem
Little is known of Wolfram s life; even the dates of his birth and death are uncertain (Hasty ix).
Perhaps for this reason, Poag begins his biographical discussion of
Wolfram with an extended description of life under the reign of Frederic Barbarossa
(13). Due to the paucity of reliable sources (outside the scant information given by
Wolfram in Parzival itself), scholars are left largely to surmise and suppose what kind of man Wolfram
was and how he lived. André Lefevere recognizes that Wolfram was himself a knight, as the poet
reminds his audience on several occasions (vii). He was, furthermore, a ministeriale one of the poorer
class of knights without significant land holdings or an important title in a society and era in which
knights were, for various political reasons, being increasingly denied the influential duties and
responsibilities which were their raison d etre (vii viii). The intensifying societal disadvantages with
which knights of his day had to contend may help explain why Wolfram depicts his fictional knights
as nobler, essentially, than members of the nobility of his day. Lefevre goes on to assert convincingly
that much of Parzival s action and plot stems from the marginalization of honor and loyalty which
Wolfram must have experienced; that is to say that, in order to respond to a world in which

The Church For World Evangelization Is An Experienced...
Scott Sundin is an experienced pastor with a very detailed past in ministry. As a brief glance into his
past, he served as a missionary for Awana Clubs for the first ten years of his ministry career. After that,
he entered into his pastoral ministry at a church called Blue Ridge Bible Church. There, he knows
everyone by name and becomes good friends with everyone he meets. He believes that his lifelong
goal should be to honor and please God by doing His commands on earth, reaching out to people and
teaching them the truth of God s Holy Word through the gifts the Lord has given Him. He currently
lives in Kansas City, Missouri with his wife. He has two sons, one daughter, and one grandchild.
Doctrinal and Spiritual Pastor Scott Sundin s doctrinal and spiritual stances regarding missions are
clear and well defined. For one, he believes that the obligation of the church for world evangelization
is to send, facilitate, and equip . He explained how the church should be responsible for as much as
they can when it comes to the preparation of a missionary for the field. First of all, he, along with his
church, try to support missions as much as financially possible. Then, they begin to teach the methods
of evangelism and about the mission field to those in the congregation who are ready for missions.
Lastly, Pastor Scott feels that the church equips each individual for the field once they are ready for it.
He recounts that this is one area where he wishes he could be more involved,

  • 2. Darwin s Theory Of Natural Selection Introduction The most well known summarization for what evolution is, is a change in genetic makeup (phenotype makeup) of a population over time; or a change in allele frequencies in a population over time (College Biology, 2014, p. 513). Darwin s theory of natural selection says that organisms have great potential fertility, natural resources are very limited, variation in phenotypes exists among individuals within a species, natural populations naturally remain constant and consistent in size, and traits (an observable or measurable characteristic) that an organism holds are heritable (College Biology, 2014 p. 486 489). Darwin s postulates include four things: there is variation of traits in populations, traits are heritable, there are more individuals born than can survive or reproduce, and survival and reproduction depends on traits which lead to the change in average value of traits over time. In any color that is on an insect or animal is partially determined by the genes that it inherits from its parents. The colors that an insect or animal exhibits can be very beneficial to them if it allows them to be camouflaged (a way to disguise or blend in with surroundings) amongst their environment or inside of their habitat. A well known example of camouflage is when coal smoke had darkened trees in England, the light peppered moths that were once camouflaged so well, suddenly became very noticeable, so population decreased since predators were finding them easier; ... • 3. The Best Laptops For College Students Today, the world has the technology to reinvent the learning process as well as the school process. Everyday students lug 20 pound backpacks to school carrying everything from notebooks and binders to textbooks. Throughout the day students must carry this weight around, which can cause back issues in the future. All that dead weight could be replaced by a single device, a notebook personal computer(PC). The average PC can weigh as little as 1.25 pounds according to Dennis McCafferty in Computers In The Classroom Want to learn the abc s of the mobile computing space? and can carry enormous amounts of data. There are many forms of notebook computers, Laarni Ragaza provides a well developed review of different computers and how they work with educational services in her article The Best Laptops for College Students. Integrating PC s into the school program will allow students to directly connect with their teachers, assignments, textbooks, and notes all on one device, in a much more efficient and organized manner. This negates the need for the cluttered backpacks and lockers students have to scramble through to find their assignments. Having PCS on hand will allow students and teachers to connect instantaneously to transfer assignments and go over lesson plans. The PC s will also enable students to connect to the internet, allowing them to further research the topic at hand. With PCs students can have a more immersive and orderly learning environment. PC s should replace ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Dissatisfaction with Society Revealed in Yeats’ Stolen Child Dissatisfaction with Society Revealed in Yeats Stolen Child The Stolen Child, a poem by W.B. Yeats, relates the story of a child who is lured away by fairies to a fantasy world illustrated through rich descriptions of nature and the freedom it offers. The plot of the poem becomes a metaphor for the return to innocence that the author feels is necessary in a society that is attempting to lead children away from the mysticism and innocence that characterize childhood, toward a more mundane reality as an adult. With his vivid descriptions and use of extended metaphor, Yeats is able to create a world unaffected by time, in stark contrast to the world in which we live, to illustrate his dissatisfaction with reality. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The island could also be symbolic of the womb, a watery environment that protected the developing child from the world. This imagery would support Yeats message that we must rekindle the innocence and abandon of our youth, which has been controlled and limited by the confines of modern society. The use of rushing water as a symbol of freedom continues in the third stanza where Yeats describes how the wandering water gushes... in pools among the rushes (28). In the final stanza, Yeats draws his most striking contrast of all to illustrate his message. He does this by following the descriptions of nature in its wildest form, of the previous stanzas, with those of the domestic atmosphere from which the child is being taken, in this stanza. Initially, Yeats established the setting of the poem in the first stanza by describing a place Where flapping herons wake / The drowsy water rats (5). This is contrasted in this stanza with images of calves on the warm hillside / Or the kettle on the hob / Or... the brown mice (45). Calves, kettles, and mice are all images that are associated with a domestic farm or a country home. Thus, this imagery is being used to portray how modern society has enslaved nature, controlling its freedom. Water rats and herons, on the other hand, are both wild and free animals that are found near water, the symbol ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Finally I look to my right at my final judge, he simply winks at me. I close my eyes and count to three. It s finally time to begin; this is my time. These next three minutes everyone has to listen to me and my opinion. I open my mouth, but the only thought going through my head is, why? Why am I doing this? Why am I here? Why did I make this mistake? It was the first day of English class and the teacher asked, who here has ever given a class presentation before? I looked around hoping, praying, that someone else is like me. However fate was not on my side. Every hand in the class was proudly raised high and I was all alone on my little island of fear. The teacher looked directly at me and asked why I had not ever done a presentation. I m a clicker, I mumbled, it was barely audible but the teacher heard it and his face softened. Well Mr. Peschansky it s time you become a talker. A psychological study done in the early 70 s found that people are more afraid of public speaking then of death. Standing at the front of the room in my first debate tournament I realize just how true that is. All I can hear is my heart hammering away in my chest, my legs feel like they are going to give and I m shaking all over. I never opened my mouth when I was in grade school. I was the kid that was always reading. If my head was not buried in a book then something was probably ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Jurassic Park Quotes Hammond states this to Dr. Wu in the chapter, Bungalow. In this quote Hammond refuses to face the reality of how unsafe his park is, even though countless amount of evidence is set in front him. Not to mention he also refuses to believe that the dinosaurs have found a way to breed despite of the scientists precautions. Between his stubbornness and old age we observe that Hammond is actually out of his mind. Later on, after the island is in pieces and most of the staff is dead, Hammond still believes that he still/should build another Jurassic Park. Though in the beginning the novel vilified Nerdy, Hammond emerges as the real villain of the story with his abuse of the scientific power. Knowing the raptors would try to eat the dinosaurs eggs, Grant injects several eggs. Due to his knowledge, he managed to get two out of three of the dinosaurs. • 7. Diverse Personal Encounters With Non State Armed Actors Diverse personal encounters with non state armed actors animate my research agenda, and I seek to discern the meaning of a picture formed by pieces of a puzzle collected during my years of military service. As a peacekeeper in Kosovo, I witnessed how a random rifle shot could spark a series of reprisals across invisible lines that separated villages. My soldiers and I were almost powerless to stop them. On one hand, our legal mandate prevented our ability to take direct action. One the other, we understood so little about our adversaries we did not fully know which action to take. Subsequent experiences leading soldiers during counterinsurgency efforts in both Iraq and Afghanistan immersed me again in the turmoil created by overlapping networks of non state armed groups competing for economic, social, and political power. Each incident revealed another piece of the puzzle, but the picture it formed remained unclear. I started to wonder if the pieces actually fit, or if I was putting them together incorrectly. I intuitively sensed the ascendant role of non state armed actors in Kosovo. However, my experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan crystalized in me the desire to explore the broader political and social ramifications of the rising influence of non state armed groups. I began to ponder the strategic impact of their decisions and actions on the long term evolution of political institutions. • 8. Why Prejudice Is Wrong What is prejudice? Prejudice is believing someone else is wrong or right based on one key factor like skin color, gender, level, etc. Personally I think prejudice is wrong, but a large majority of the world says otherwise. Prejudice dates back to practically the beginning of time whether it was when the ancient Romans enslaved millions of people or in the 1700 and 1800 hundreds when black slaves were traded bought and sold all over America, or 1933 to 1945 during the holocaust. Many people think that prejudice and racism are gone but everywhere you turn you can find something prejudice happening whether it be here or in different countries. • 9. Moonrise Kingdom Analysis The film, Moonrise Kingdom, follows the story of two 12 year olds in New England, Sam and Suzy, who run away together to an island in order to pursue their loving relationship. A search party for the pair ensues before chaos can erupt due to an oncoming storm. A theme throughout the movie that stood out to me was the contrast of child fantasy and reality. Suzy and Sam both suffer with dysfunctional and loveless relationships, Sam being an orphan, and Suzy struggling with feeling accepted in her family, and surrounded by parents that do not love each other. In order to escape their hardships, they turn to running away together. They form their idea of paradise in doing this, being able to disregard their family situations, and create a bond that they would have otherwise never had with anybody else before. I found the idea of the cove they run away together to, and the techniques Anderson combines with it, a very interesting concept. The cove is supposed to be a symbol of perfection and familiarity for the young lovers, but Anderson uses the impending storm to show that love, even in its purest form, is never flawless. I found this very intriguing, and thought provoking since a lot of people do describe love as perfect, and that being in love is the best time of your life. I noticed, in order to emphasise his point, Anderson used dark clouds and grey skies while they were on their paradise island, whereas typical romance movies would have bright blue, sunshine filled ... By illustrating the act of mutiny, Odysseus men are disloyal with a deathly punishment. Through the acts of cheating and mutiny, the main characters of The Odyssey are expressed as disloyal. To begin with, Odysseus becomes disloyal to Penelope, conveying the act of cheating. In The Odyssey, Odysseus is found landing on Ogygia, becoming affectionate towards Calypso. To support this statement the text states, He has spent ten years (seven of them as Calypso s not entirely unwilling captive) (Homer 891). Odysseus, having some power in the situation, decides to sleep with Calypso. Therefore, Odysseus becomes disloyal to Penelope. • 11. The Purpose Of Professional Public Relations Introduction For some people public relations is a very important, strategic element in the smooth and effective function of the company. As Baines, 2004 stated: The purpose of professional public relations is to create understanding. It is unlike advertising, whose main aim is to generate awareness and sales, or propaganda, whose aim is to suggest what individuals should believe. (Baines et al., 2004, p.6) Throughout my report I will be focusing on Pedigree company one brand from the large corporate, giant Mars, Incorporated as well. I will be assessing how they use Public Relations techniques to present and manage their image and reputation as a large corporation. Pedigree is one of the world s largest and the most recognizable dog food producer. Their products carry a wide range of different tastes. This ranges from dry to wet foods (canned to pouched) and is intended for puppies as well as adult dogs. The versatile of products give the opportunity to even the most demanding customer to help them find the perfect taste for their canine friend. PUBLIC RELATIONS TECHNIQUES As the dog food market grows, competition also grows for Pedigree. This is because many competitors and some unsatisfied customers will constantly try to ruin Pedigrees image in the public eye. Subsequently this pushes Pedigree to use PR techniques in order to help the company sustain a strong position in the market and help maintain a good growing image and reputation. In ... • 12. Improving HTTP Performance Using Stateless TCP Improving HTTP Performance Using Stateless TCP In this paper a server side approach is made which can reduce processing load per connection. The advantages of running web servers over a basic transport protocol that is similar to TCP are studied here. The stateless TCP for HTTP decreases the kernel resources required per TCP connection. So it increases the number of client initiated HTTP connections per second. Stateless TCP modifications decreases the server s CPU usage and other TCP memory requirements. This helps to serve small webpages under overloaded situations. Two Algorithms (David A Hayes, Improving http performance using stateless tcp, 2011) are mentioned that show the basic operation of stateless TCP, one for incoming packets and one for outgoing packets from server. These include few rules to react to incoming control packets and also information to deal with application data. Algorithm 1: incoming Every TCP packet is captured which arrives at port 80 and following operations are performed, 1. If it s a TCP SYN packet, send back a TCP SYN/ACK 2. If TCP DATA packet a) Store ack number and start timer b) Send TCP ACK packet back to sender, correct sequence and ack number c) Send TCP payload to server via UDP socket 3. If a TCP FIN packet, send back TCP FIN/RST/ACK and delete data and timer stored at 2a 4. We are also told that, ...everyone well paid, comfortable... , ...fine machinery... and ...excellent lunch... which makes us wonder whether Samuel Greg is only showing the good points. Frederick Engles thinks that it was in fact a staged visit and that all the bad conditions were kept hidden. He suggests that Greg s factory was a mockery . They can cause environmental issues or they could even cause hurt to humans and animals. However, HAZMAT is needed for production in some workplaces. There are many businesses that do not train their employees properly or not at all on hazardous materials. Anyone transferring, using, touching, or working with hazardous materials should be trained so they know what to do in case of a serious incident. There were 14 employees who did not have any training on HAZMAT. There is also another incident that states a company failed to properly train their employees on how to properly package and label HAZMAT product which caused acceptance of cargo on an airplane that should have not been accepted. These are just a couple of incidents that discussed in this press release. If those employees would have been trained, there may not have been a safety incident that caused fines to these companies. The worst part is, is the employees had no idea what to do in any of these incidents. They could have been hurt or even caused harm against others and it would not have necessarily been their fault. One way to reduce these incidents is risk management. Risk management is a program to reduce risks in a business in any way possible by forecasting and evaluating. According to the US Department of Transportation, the Hazardous Materials Safety Program is, designed to reduce the probability and quantity of hazardous material released and mitigate release consequences (DOT, 1998, p. 4). This program gives guidelines as well as consequences. It gives ideas for future and how to plan for an incident. Statement of Problem African American women have not received much consideration in the literature although they are a rising presence on college campuses (Strayhorn Johnson, 2014). In fact, nationally 4 million women are enrolled in community colleges, 36% are African American raising children alone, in which adds additional challenges in improving persistence and graduation (Goldrick Rab Sorensen, 2011, Institute for Women s Policy Research, 2013, American Association of Community Colleges, 2016, Shapiro, Dundar, Huie, 2017). • 17. Etiology Of Schizophrenia Essay Schizophrenia is a mental illness which affects the lives of the individual, their families and society (Murray Lopez, 1996). The term Schizophrenia is often utilized to describe a major psychotic disorder that alters the way an individual think, feels or acts (NCCMH, 2010). It is often worth noting that each person who develops this mental illness possess their own unique combinations of symptoms and experiences. Schizophrenia has been the subject of an ongoing controversy regarding its etiology and treatment. Biological, environmental and social factors play a pivotal role in understanding Schizophrenia and determining the outcomes. Research that has been conducted so far has attempted to determine the role of biological, psychological and social factors but unfortunately, evidence does not point to any single factor. Literature suggests that the etiology of schizophrenia and related psychoses results from a complex interaction of multiple factors (Broome et al., 2005; Garety et al., 2007). Nuechterlein Dawson (1984) suggest that much of the conducted research on the etiology of schizophrenia is consistent with the vulnerability stress model. The vulnerability stress explains that individuals have different levels of vulnerability to the mental illness schizophrenia. These levels are determined by the interaction between biological, social and psychological factors. The research of Neuchterlein Dawson (1984) proposed that vulnerability results in the development of problems if there was a presence of environmental stressors. This proposal states that if there is great vulnerability, low levels of stress might be sufficient to cause problems. On the other hand, if an individual possess less vulnerability, problems only arise with higher levels of stress. Although the etiology of schizophrenia is not well understood, this model is consistent with a variety of putative causes of this mental disorder, in addition to the differential relapse and readmission rates that are overserved among people suffering from ... Feminism Throughout The Decades Fight for Your Rights: Feminism Throughout the Decades Women have historically had a rocky relationship with governmental, cultural, religious, and social rights. The Women s Rights movement has been in effect since approximately 1792, with the publication of the first feminist work, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, by British writer Mary Wollstonecraft ( Women s Rights Movement ). While social changes have occurred and more progressive laws have been put into place throughout the years, there is still not equality between the sexes. Additionally, gender roles in different countries differ greatly. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the major causes and concerns of the Women s Rights movements throughout the decades, as well as denote the differences between more progressive societies and their less accepting counterparts. • 19. The Effect Of Magnetic Permeability On The Magnetic Field Aeromagnetic Data Theory Scalar aeromagnetic data comprise both induced and remanent magnetic fields. Induced magnetism is caused by the earth s magnetic field and is mainly the result of the magnetic susceptibility of the rock. Magnetic susceptibility is expressed as a unit less proportionality constant denoted by an International System of Units (SI), which reflects the susceptibility of a rock to become magnetized in the presence of a magnetic field. This susceptibility is mainly a function of the rock s magnetite content. In general, higher susceptibility rocks produce greater variability in magnetic amplitudes than low susceptibility counterparts (Ford et al. 2008; Anderson et al. 2013; Table 2).The remanent component is a function of the magnetic, mechanical, and thermal history of a rock and is not affected by the inducing magnetic field in which it is measured. In most cases, the induced component of the magnetic field is predominant. However, remanent magnetization is commonly dominant in igneous rocks (Anderson et al. 2013) which can result in negative polarization and subsequent negative amplitude magnetic lows. Structural Interpretation of Aeromagnetic Data Aeromagnetic data indicate the OB is bound to the north by the Quetico fault and to the south by the Vermillion and Rainy Lake Seine River faults (Fig. 3, Fig. 4). • 20. Good Morning Vietnam Analysis In Good Morning Vietnam, the movie shows the story Adrian Cronauer and his experience as a radio DJ in 1965 Vietnam. In the movie, Adrian is a witty and impulsive comic that likes to do his own thing which does not go over well with the General Major who is in charge. However, Adrian s comedy and wit help to make his radio shows entertaining for the troops and he becomes respected among many of the men in the army. Although Adrian is censored, he still tried to inform the troops and went against the normal protocol. Good Morning Vietnam gives a unique look into the war and shows the frustration of both sides. The only villains that seem to arise are the ones who hold Adrian back or the ones who are confused and angry at the misfortunate that had fallen upon their home in Vietnam. Overall, this movie showed the good and bad sides of the war while also giving an inside look into the experience of one man. The movie helped to showcase the main themes of conflict in war, censorship of the news and events, and confusion among civilians and soldiers. Although this movie does not showcase the time period using clothing or unique hairstyles, it reflects the 60s through the different music that Adrian includes in his radio station. Adrian plays songs from James Brown, the Beach Boys, and references icons of the time such as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. The rebellious nature of the music reflects not only Adrian s attitude, but also the rebellion against the war that took off ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Cannonball Moment In Life A cannonball moment. A moment that knocks you down, but shifts your life s direction and makes you realize something special. Growing up as a child, my grandfather was much more than a grandfather, he was my best friend. He was always smiling, always energized, and always willing to help anyone with anything. Unfortunately, old age gets the best of us. As the years went on, his smile seemed to disappear, his energy diminished, and he was unable to help anyone anymore due to his physical condition. He was recently diagnosed with kyphosis of the neck and spinal stenosis. Kyphosis and spinal stenosis both decrease the function of your neck and spine. My grandfather used to be able to stand up straight, but now his back has almost curved at a ninety degree angle with his legs. Each time I visit my grandfather, it pains me to see his condition get worse and worse. His pain feels like my pain. He attends physical therapy every week and wears a back brace every day, but there is only so much that can be done. If a highly accredited doctor of physical therapy could barely help my grandfather, how could I? How could I allow myself to sit on the sidelines as my grandfather loses the ability to stand? Why did God allow for this to happen? These are the kinds of questions I ponder on a daily basis. However, last year I pondered different kinds of questions, the dreadful common app questions. It is one of mankind s oldest infections and has plagued humans throughout recorded and archaeological history (Encyclopaedia Britannica 2014). Tuberculosis comes in an infectious and disease form. The infectious form is the result of contraction of TB bacteria that remains dormant and is neither symptomatic nor contagious. The disease form of TB is caused by active TB bacteria and results in the contagious and fatal tuberculosis disease. History of Tuberculosis Tubercle bacilli emerged as a pathogen from East Africa, and as people migrated so did the disease. Tuberculosis lesions contain acid fast bacilli which have been found in Egyptian and Peruvian mummies (Schlossberg page 97). From these findings, historians and microbiologists have concluded that mycobacterium is millions of years old. Physiology of mycobacterium: Tubercle bacilli is a type of mycobacterium. Its prototrophic, metabolically flexible membrane (US National Library of Medicine 2008) enables it to metabolize and reproduce without specific substances, increasing its speed of replication and infection. • 33. The Theory Of General Strain Theory Essay Introduction In the 1980 s, Criminologist, Robert Agnew, presented his theory of general strain, in which he covers a range of negative behaviors, especially how adolescents deal with stresses of strain. General strain theory focuses on the source, such as anything that changes in the individual s life that causes strain. His theory provides a different outlook on social control and social learning theory for two reasons: the type of social relationship that leads to delinquency and the motivation for the delinquency (Agnew, 1992). He states that certain strains and stresses increase the likelihood for crime such as economic deprivation, child abuse, and discrimination. These factors can cause an increase of crime through a range of negative emotions. For some people it can take a lot of willpower to take a corrective action and try to deter away from committing crime in a way that they can relieve these negative emotions. When people cannot cope with the stresses of the strain, they turn to crime as a coping mechanism. Agnew also states, that not all people that experience the stresses of strain will go forward to committing crime and live a deviant life. Agnew assumes that all people of all social classes experience and deal with frustration when experiencing a great amount of stress. The general strain theory bridges the gap between the poor and the rich. The stresses of strain is a universal feeling that every individual experiences at some point in time of their life. ... • 37. Exploring Whether All Morality Should Reduce to Respecting... Kantian Ethics states that all morality can be reduced to respecting autonomy. This theory has faced criticisms as well as support. Its most plausible idea is that autonomous agents are capable of making their own decisions and even if their choices may not be the best for them, these choices should be respected. However, criticisms of this theory include concerns such as 1) respecting autonomy is not equivalent to respecting the autonomous agent, 2) the theory does not concern (or concerns very little) with non autonomous agents such as children and non human animals, 3) it is implausible that respecting autonomy is the only factor determining morality, and 4) respecting others autonomy does not follow from respecting one s own autonomy. ... While behind this veil, an individual is not aware of their social class, sex, race, and any other psychological traits that may prevent one from making a fair judgement. Prioritizing autonomies while behind the Veil of Ignorance can be presumed to be fair and just. However, this theory is purely hypothetical and due to this fact, even if we can make ourselves be unaware of our social class, sex, race, and other psychological traits choices made behind the veil seem irrelevant to reality. Furthermore, agreement behind the Veil of Ignorance does not ensure that the decision is actually permissive because people may agree to a sacrifice if the probability of it happening to them is rare. For instance, people may agree to harvesting organs from healthy individuals to save a greater number of individuals but this does not mean that this act is morally permissible. I have presented how Rawls Contractualism fails to support Kantian Ethics which required prioritizing between one s own autonomy against another s. Third, they wanted to help the slaves who are now considered as freemen after the war ended. the Radical Republicans didn t like Andrew Johnson s plans, which are almost mirrored his previous president Abraham Lincoln, they felt that he did not pay attention to the major issue, which was the rights and protection for slaves, and because of that Andrew was considered weak and was impeached in 1868. The Presidential Reconstruction which was led by Andrew Johnson was considered harsh towards the South. Johnson believed that African Americans doesn t deserve to vote, he thinks that they can t manage their own life so they should stay slaves for white men. He believed that black men should emigrate out of the states. Johnson returned all property to the Confederates who supported the 13th amendment and pledged loyalty to the North States, but, he didn t return their slaves. • 40. Rhetorical Analysis Of Ronald Reagan s Speech On The... On January 28th, 1986, Ronald Reagan used his stature as president to show sympathy for the country in the light of tragedy, in his speech entitled Speech on the Challenger Disaster. His main point expounds on the importance of the Challenger Disaster in the history of space exploration. He supports this claim by first explaining the effect the disaster had on the public, then offering his sympathy for the families of the astronauts as well as the entire nation, and finally declaring that the country must continue to explore space so the deaths of the astronauts were not in vain. Through Reagan s use of rhetorical appeals, tone, and rhetorical tools he effectively persuades the American people to maintain confidence in NASA and in space exploration, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reagan carefully chose his words during his speech on the Challenger Disaster, using specific pronouns completely changed the way the country received the message. It was initiated when he said, we ve never lost an astronaut in flight; we ve never had a tragedy like this (5). Later he also stated: We ve grown used to the idea of space, and perhaps we forget that we ve only just begun (7). Reagan s use of we throughout the speech shows the nation that even high figures such as celebrities and political figure, in which Reagan represented both, also feel as the common people do in times of struggle and devastation. Allowing the citizens of America a shoulder to cry on for a dark and challenging time in the history of the country. Towards the end of the text Reagan started to create allusions for the American people to compare the fallen astronauts to. Such as when Reagan stated: the great explorer Sir Francis Drake died aboard ship off the coast of Panama. In his lifetime the great frontiers were the oceans, and a historian later said, He lived by the sea, died on it, and was buried in it (10). Also he makes reference to the religious figures at the end when he says, slipped the surly bongs of earth to touch the face of God (11). Using these allusions, Reagan was able to effectively convince the audience that the astronauts died for a reason and a cause, to expand our knowledge of space and explore what it could possibly contain. In the case that Reagan had not given this speech it could be possible that many people around the world would want to back off from exploring space because it could kill people that attempt to travel into it. But Reagan s speech was able to revoke confidence in NASA and other space programs, letting moms let their kids become astronauts and not saying no because of how dangerous it could be. ... • 42. Pros And Cons Of Virtue Ethics Martin Zemlock Ethics in Public Private Life Essay Dr. Dan Johnson 11/15/2017 Flaws of Aristotelian Virtue Ethics When most think of philosophy a list of people come to mind. You have your greats such as Plato, Nietzsche, and of course Aristotle. However, this does not mean that their ideas cannot be challenged and questioned, as no one is above criticism. Aristotelian Virtue Ethics have a major flaw that strikes at the heart of the idea. There is a severe lack of guidance both in what a virtue is, and what happens when they conflict. The mains question is, is one virtue more important than another? What is Aristotle s virtue ethics theory exactly? Aristotle was one of the first to describe this type of theory and he based it largely on Eudaimonism. Eudaimonism bases virtues in human flourishing, where flourishing is equated with performing one s distinctive function well (Virtue Ethics). For humans, Aristotle believed that our main function is reasoning and to live well we would need to reason well. The largest part of virtue ethics is the titular virtues that decide whether or not a person was truly flourishing or not. To first create an argument over the conflict of virtues one must first understand what makes a virtue a virtue. In Aristotelian Virtue Ethics, a virtue is described as something a virtuous person does. In turn, a virtuous person is someone who does virtuous acts. This is where a big issue arises in this theory. There are hardly any ground laws ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Essay Aboriginal Customary Laws and Australian... Aboriginal Customary Laws and Australian Contemporary Laws Aboriginal customary laws, before white settlement in 1788, were considered primitive by the British, if considered at all. But Aboriginal laws and customs had lasted hundreds of years, based on traditions such as kinship ties and rituals. These laws were formed by ancestors, spirits, and Aboriginal beliefs, and were passed down the generations by word of mouth instead of written down. Being over 500 tribes (each with it s own clans) in Australia at one point, there were many variations to their guidelines, customised to each area of the land. Although the laws varied throughout the ages, this way of life remained until white settlement. The roots of Australian laws are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Children were taught how to be proper children until they were old enough to be told their adult customs. Australian laws have two forms, public and private law. Public law is an individual versus the Australian government, for example, criminal law, constitutional law and environmental law. It involves public bodies, public matters and is the concern of everybody in Australia. Private law involves disputes between private citizens or entities, for example, contract law, family law and probate laws. Traditional Aboriginal marriages were very different to English marriages and Australian marital laws today. Aboriginal girls were to be married when they reached puberty, and were married to much older men, who could marry (and have numerous wives) once a certain age. This meant that sex at a young age was acceptable. Australian law states that no person can legally marry until the age of 18, or have sex until the age of 16, and it is socially unacceptable for people to have numerous partners. Australian law declares under age sex as child abuse and a criminal offence. All Aboriginals were involved in their customs and laws, with rules being imposed by the communities. Each clan was tight knit and respected their ancestry and customs. Punishments varied, depending on the severity of the crime committed. Types of punishment included revenge, social ridicule, ostracism, insulting, spearing (aimed at the leg, but sometimes resulted in death) and death by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Depiction and Development of the Knight Hero in Wolfram... Introduction Wolfram von Eschenbach s epic poem Parzival stands as one of the richest and most profound literary works to have survived from the middle ages. Lost in obscurity for centuries until rediscovered and republished by Karl Lachmann in 1833, the poem enjoyed at least as great a popularity when it was first composed as it does among today s readers: Some eighty manuscripts have been preserved, in whole or in part, from Wolfram s era (Poag 40). Among the more intriguing aspects of the work is Wolfram s handling of the depiction and development of two of the story s primary characters, the knights Gahmuret and Parzival, father and son. Central to the action of the text from its inception, yet never sharing a scene, these men ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Background and General Characteristics of the Poem Little is known of Wolfram s life; even the dates of his birth and death are uncertain (Hasty ix). Perhaps for this reason, Poag begins his biographical discussion of Wolfram with an extended description of life under the reign of Frederic Barbarossa (13). Due to the paucity of reliable sources (outside the scant information given by Wolfram in Parzival itself), scholars are left largely to surmise and suppose what kind of man Wolfram was and how he lived. André Lefevere recognizes that Wolfram was himself a knight, as the poet reminds his audience on several occasions (vii). He was, furthermore, a ministeriale one of the poorer class of knights without significant land holdings or an important title in a society and era in which knights were, for various political reasons, being increasingly denied the influential duties and responsibilities which were their raison d etre (vii viii). The intensifying societal disadvantages with which knights of his day had to contend may help explain why Wolfram depicts his fictional knights as nobler, essentially, than members of the nobility of his day. Lefevre goes on to assert convincingly that much of Parzival s action and plot stems from the marginalization of honor and loyalty which Wolfram must have experienced; that is to say that, in order to respond to a world in which ... After that, he entered into his pastoral ministry at a church called Blue Ridge Bible Church. There, he knows everyone by name and becomes good friends with everyone he meets. Doctrinal and Spiritual Pastor Scott Sundin s doctrinal and spiritual stances regarding missions are clear and well defined. For one, he believes that the obligation of the church for world evangelization is to send, facilitate, and equip . He explained how the church should be responsible for as much as they can when it comes to the preparation of a missionary for the field. First of all, he, along with his church, try to support missions as much as financially possible. Then, they begin to teach the methods of evangelism and about the mission field to those in the congregation who are ready for missions. Lastly, Pastor Scott feels that the church equips each individual for the field once they are ready for it. He recounts that this is one area where he wishes he could be more involved, ...
