What Are Genetic And Environmental Factors That Affect The...
Ultraviolet (UV) light is just outside of our visual range. It s fairly energetic and causes changes to
human tissue. This should be fairly obvious since it tans the skin, causes sun burns, prematurely ages
the skin, and can damage the eyes. Just as some types of people are more likely to suffer from skin
cancer because of UV exposure, some types of people have a better than average chance of suffering
from UV related eye damage.
There are two general factors that contribute to this vulnerability: your genetics and external
circumstances that increase your exposure to sunlight.
Your Genetics
Just as fair skinned people have a higher incidence of skin cancer, people with light colored eyes such
as blue or green have a higher risk of melanoma ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It simply takes more of it. It may not cause the same level of discomfort, but it still interferes with a
clear view of the road when driving.
Your External Circumstances
There are many non genetic external factors that affect your risk of UV related eye damage. These
include:
You re an Outdoors Person
This makes sense since UV eye damage is a cumulative process. Your risk of UV eye problems later in
life is the sum of all the hours spent every day in the sun. This includes cloudy days. Some activities
are especially risky. These include skiing, mountain climbing, time at the beach, and boating. Nike
sunglasses have a large selection that accommodates the needs of most outdoor enthusiasts and
athletes.
You Live in Mountainous or Sunbelt States
The higher your altitude, the less protective atmosphere above you to protect against UV light. This
means you get a higher rate of exposure than someone living at sea level.
Thick clouds and bad weather do block some UV light. However, sunbelt states are predominantly
sunny, which means you get more UV exposure than those who live elsewhere. The southerly locale
of the sunbelt states also means the sun is higher overhead during all seasons of the year. Sunglasses
are a must for those living in areas with high UV

Gossiping About Masked Strangers
One day, my friend and I were gossiping, and as we walked down the hallway, we pointed to every
person we layed our eyes on and whispered, Fake. Fake. Fake. Fake. Fake. I giggled at our secretive
insult, but I lost focus for a second. In my head, I imagined a mirror. I saw myself a girl with a big
smile painted across her face. Then, this girl pointed to her own reflection. Fake.
Every day, my eyes scan this stupid place called high school a dark tunnel I never find light at the end
of. Here s a list of people I see:
1. Attention whores
Girl I Hate Number One with Girl I Hate Number Two, and their little hater ettes following close
behind. What s so great about them? It s obvious everyone loves them; no one hates or even dislikes
these bitches. But, the way they act on the outside doesn t cover up what s on the inside: rude, bitter
hatred. No one sees beyond this. They are viewed as the most gorgeous and fun girls ever. Ugh.
2. Miss High School Burnout
The druggie alcoholic, yet still popular as ever, girl. I have no idea how someone with zero morals
gets so many friends. Clinging to her is her little freshman slave (premature attention whore to the
max) who everyone also likes, though I don t know why. The only thing Mary Jane talks about is how
high and wasted she gets. All. The. Time. Last weekend was killer shots after shots after shots... Super
baked right now... Up in the club with drinks and joints. How does no one get tired of

Compare And Contrast Florentine Art In The Quattrocento
In the 15th Century, Italy was the hub of the arts, humanism, technological innovations and science.
This period is commonly referred to as the Renaissance, and it is stated that Florence was in the heart
of it, although Venice was also prominent in its artistic development. In this essay, the characteristics
of Florentine and Venetian art in the Quattrocento will be analysed, and a comparison and contrast
between the two will be conducted.
In the Quattrocento, Italy was divided into different city states, such as Florence, Venice, Milan and
Siena , amongst others, each ruled by its own government. In this essay, the focus will be on Florence
and Venice and smaller cities which were influenced by their artists. The Renaissance started in
Florence, a few years after the year 1400 . The 15th Century in Italy, also known as the Quattrocento ,
is often described as being an era in which there was an increase in abundance and ... Show more

The two artists were essential in the development of Florentine art, whereby Donatello, influenced by
Classical antiquity, soon became the best sculptor of his time, by depicting figures larger than life,
such as his St. George Tabernacle, which is full of movement and realism; St. George s expression
sombre, and his pose naturalistic . On the other hand, Brunelleschi discovered one point perspective,
in turn influencing young artists like Masaccio, whose fresco The Holy Trinity was revolutionary, as it
included all that Ghiberti, Donatello and Brunelleschi had discovered: drama, realism, emotion and
depth, and made use of classical elements. Such characteristics were to be the basis of Florentine art,
which may be distinguished from attention to design and focus on perspective, and attention to facial
expressions and gestures , and sometimes made references to classical architecture or subjects like

Maritime Terrorist Attacks via Containerized Shipping
Christopher Welch
Author Note
This paper was prepared for Operations Management 5993, taught by Dr. Livingston
Executive Summary
There is a growing concern over the vulnerabilities of port security and the possible exploitation of
these vulnerabilities by a terrorist organization; specifically, the use of containerized shipping. The
vastness of the process of maritime operations alone creates a large opportunity for vulnerability, but
add to it the different regulation requirements by all the different countries involved in the global
market and there is a large difference in protection standards and the execution of them. This paper
will explore the possibilities of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main agenda of Maritime security is protection of our National ports. By preventing smuggling,
as well as, other threat scenarios like a ship being used as a collision weapon or transportation of
Weapons of Mass Destruction.
An estimated $4 trillion worth of the worlds goods are moved by see, this is roughly 80 percent of
global freight and it is accomplished in the form of cargo that is transshipped. This demonstrates the
shear overwhelming size of the task of tracking and inspecting all of the containers that travel to and
from the United States. For all parties involved in enforcing the security measures, there is a constant
battle, over executing the requirements and how much time it takes. Because most shipping companies
work on a last minute deliver type system, which allows for the lowest cost of the shipping, there is
really no time allocated for mistakes or inspections. So, the delay in deliver can cost millions of
dollars for U.S. economy.
Risk Analysis Assessment
When considering the risk of maritime shipping be utilized to deliver a WMD, chemical weapon or
the parts to create one, a solid assessment of the probability of it happening and impact if it happened
needs to be completed. The probability of this type of attack is low, but the impact of it, if it happened,
would be catastrophic in terms of

Langston Hughes Harlem
Harlem by Langston Hughes embodies the thoughts and feelings of a historic time period. A surge of
artistic expression among African Americans led the way to a movement that is now known as the
Harlem Renaissance. Creative works depicting the social forecast of the day began to emerge. Harlem
was written during this fascinating time and flawlessly incorporates this renaissance thinking into each
line. In essence, the poem conveys a sense of grievance, yet also provides a hope to break the bonds
that hinder the black community. By using a varying meter and rhyme scheme and also employing the
use of simile and repetition, Hughes expertly portrays the attitudes of an entire social class. Harlem
has no specifically consistent meter or rhyme ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The words does, like, and or are repeated consistently. This allows the reader to acknowledge the
structure of each stanza but contributes to the audience s awareness of the subject of the poem (a
dream deferred) as well. It is also important to note alliteration found in some of the lines. In the first
two lines, Hughes uses an alliterating d and then an alliterating s in lines three through four and six
through nine. This draws attention to repetition and also adds to the cohesiveness of the poem. By far,
the most obvious and significant aspect of Harlem can be found by the implantation of similes. Each
simile used is imperative to understanding the true meaning behind the postponed or ended dream that
Hughes references. Hughes implies that many obstacles and challenges exist which can defer a dream.
For one, it may dry up like a raisin in the sun. Perhaps a dream can lose its livelihood and dry up to be
soon forgotten. A dream can also fester like a sore and then run. The lines imply that a denied dream
may constantly be on the mind and be a very uncomfortable subject. Hughes writes a dream can stink
like rotten meat, which suggests a nauseating sense of

Clarence Anglin, John Anglin, and Frank Morris died trying to escape Alcatraz island. The men would
most likely have died facing the tough obsticals of the San Francisco bay the island was surrounded

Too light for our infirm delight is the third line which means that the item isn t as good as you thought

Why Curfew Hourss Are Important For Teens
The ways teens act nowadays are really diverse between the new and old. Curfew hours are really
important for teens and their own safety.Although they are home certain times, this does not
necessarily mean their actions are appropriate. The curfew law restriction shouldn t change at all, even
though people complain. Having the juvenile under control can have mutual responsibilities. The most
critical issue for not following the curfew hours can lead to many consequences. The time limit can
have lots of causes and effects within teens.Curfew times are good to have to help teens from getting
into dangerous situations, the lost of education, and the mutual amount of safety at the time. Curfew

order for them to be trusted and not getting fined. National Youth Rights Association best expresses
and confirms that, curfew laws often have exceptions if the person is coming home from work, or an

Summary Of Don Juan A Yaqui Way Of Knowledge
The Teachings of Don Juan: A Yaqui Way of Knowledge by Carlos Castaneda explores spiritual and
philosophical awaking through the use of hallucinogenic plants (mainly peyote) to induce states of
nonordinary reality, and ancient Yaqui knowledge. It is an anthropological memoir of the experiences
of the author under the tutelage of the Yaqui Indian Sorcerer (brujo) don Juan Matus in Sonora,
Mexico from 1960 to 1965. The book was written by Castaneda as his Master s thesis in the school of
anthropology at the University of California Los Angeles, and was published by the university in
1968. The book is presented in two parts: the first deals with the teachings of don Juan; while the
second is an academic look at his journey. It is the first in a series of books by Castaneda that delve
into the subject of spiritual awakening, and development; something Castaneda devoted the rest of his

author faced growing up in a mexican american family. The author speaks about how her culture and
the way she wanted to live and be understood were always under conflict. The author is very

article Only Daughter by Sandra Cisneros describes the hardships of the author being an only daughter
in a family of nine and how she came to be such a great author. This autobiography was published in

her education didn t matter. Her father thought that college was only good for finding a husband. But
that just made the author persevere and try to gain her father s approval. She continued to work hard
and she started to make a name for herself but her father never really was interested in her work. She

Afro-American Wildness Of Nature
By separating slaves from the land, white culture protected its rights to ownership and citizenship.
However, the connection was fragmented, not damaged. Even if Sweet Home detained natural beauty,
the slaves living there were quite familiar with the wildness of nature. As a child, Sethe remembers her
mother how she d had the bit so many times she smiled (Beloved 203). Similarly is a human attributed
and the opposite of it signifies inhumanity of whites and non humanness of blacks. Her mouth
becomes everlastingly imperfect from the bit , marking an animal intended for work. Dixon remarks

William Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Shrew Essay
Shakespeare wrote his plays without a thought that they would ever not be performed on stage. Many
of Shakespeare s plays have been performed since his death 400 years ago. And with time comes
advances, as many of Shakespeare s play have been adapted from text to film. Some films take
Shakespeare s original plot and twist it to be more modern, while others stick with the classic. In
Franco Zeffirelli s 1968 film version of The Taming of the Shrew, he recreates Shakespeare s loved
play. Although Zeffirelli stays close to Shakespeare s original text, he does omit and add lines and
scenes that weren t originally in the play. Zeffirelli also adds body language and stage directions
where they aren t in the play. These directorial decisions change the way the romance looks between
Katherina and Petruccio in the text. The relationship between the two characters in Zeffirelli s film is
attempted to be seen as more consensual than in the text. Shakespeare s play The Taming of the Shrew
begins with an Induction that isn t in Zeffirelli s film. The Induction in the film starts with a beggar

The Drug Crime Link Between Crime And Crime
There is a popular widespread belief in the media, politics and society that illegal drugs and addiction
to illegal drugs, in general, is the cause of a significant proportion of crime (Seddon, 2000). This idea
has exerted an increasingly strong hold on drug policies around the world (Bean, 2008), including
New Zealand. The drug crime link refers to the argument that crime is one of, if not the major,
consequent problems of drug use (Bean, 2008), essentially, crime is a problem that arises from drug
use and drug use can arise from crime also. Drugs and crime are consistently related to each other in a
number of studies, however, despite popular belief, the connection between the two are far too
complicated to summarise as a straightforward ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The drug crime link is incredibly complex and can not be simply summarised as a straightforward
relationship between the two. The prevalence of drug use and the prevalence of crime is hard to
measure and there is also a possibility that other factors influence both drug use and crime
(Hammersley, 2008).
Drug use is a largely illegal activity consequently making it extremely difficult to measure (Bean,
2008). There are a lot of problems measuring the prevalence of drug use in society as it mainly hidden
away to avoid prosecution. Coomber et al. (2013), indicates that in the last 50 100 years drug use
around the world has had an enormous growth and around five percent of the world s 15 64 year old
population had used an illicit drug at least once in the past twelve months, and additionally this seems
to be more or less the case for the recent past history. This essentially indicates that quite a number of
the population have used an illegal drug recently. If this is the case, wouldn t crime be a bigger
problem in the world? Both crime and drug use are hidden to a certain extent, known as the dark
figure where certain crimes are committed but there are no offences that have been officially recorded
(Higgins and Marcum, 2016). Even with prevalence studies and research, no one knows the exact
figure of how many people are involved, or how

The Importance Of Pornography
Being raised in a Cristian Mexican culture home, I was taught early in life to view adult content
material such as pornography as taboo. My Father was a strict strong minded man with high morals;
raising four girls and one boy. My Mother on the other hand more on the passive side, yet she shared
the same views as my Father when it came to pornography. I can vividly recall one summer day,
playing hide and seek with the neighborhood children. It was a normal day, until a few of the children
went missing, when we located them they were viewing a pornographic magazine, an older child was
exposing them too. At the tender age of seven years old, I could not connect the magazine material to

should be practice. If it is not a private home where adult content is being shared or discussed and
there are children present adults should be respectful and censor on their own what to expose them to
and what to protect them from. Returning back to the first Amendment. I strongly feel it is our right as
American s to express our freedom or to allow others to do so as they please. Everyone is free to
disagree but we cannot decide what is right for another person solely on our own personal emotions. It
should be the head of house to decide what is allowed in their own home not the Government. Jacobi
makes a valid point when she says feminist are pro censorship because they want the Government to
intervene and create laws to get their own point access for personal gratification.

Northup And Frederick Douglass Comparison
Slavery is a very immoral act that started in 1692. Everyone in this current day of age knows it is
completely wrong. The people were treated unfairly and were viewed as unintelligent animals. The
Slave Narrative of Frederick Douglass and 12 Years a Slave are very precise on how people were
treated and what really happened at that time. The Slave Narrative of Frederick Douglass is about a
slave that lives his life a slave and goes through many horrific acts. Throughout his life he teaches
himself how to read and write, also to educate himself to become an intelligent human being that lived
most of his life as a slave. The move 12 Years a Slave is about free black man in the North who was
kidnapped and sold into slavery. So he was an intelligent man that became a slave. For 12 years he
lived a life as a slave and worked for many different masters. After 12 years of being ... Show more

The first difference is that the owners in 12 Years a Slave woke up the slaves and forced them to join
them in the party and dance. Which results them not having enough sleep to work so they will be tired
and lazy to work. So the owners would have a reason to punish them and whip them. In the Narrative
of the Life of Frederick Douglass, the owners let the slaves rest so that they could work and
accomplish what needs to be done. Another Difference was that in 12 Years a Slave, Solomon Northup
was a free and independent man. In the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Frederick
Douglass wasn t free and independent because he was a slave.
The major difference that I observed throughout both stories was that they were both educated and
intelligent but the difference was is how they became it. In the 12 Years a Slave, Solomon Northup
was an independent free man that got kidnapped and became a smart. He was a wise and intelligent
human being. In the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass,

God would not have created humans if they were not meant to make mistakes. Everyone is prone to
making mistakes, but they only become valuable when you take a lesson out of them. The main
character, Duddy Kravitz, goes through a tough upbringing, in a family that continuously
discriminates him. Throughout the story, he makes grave life mistakes which allow him to see the
world more clearly. The discriminatory attitude of his family makes him go through a process of self
awareness and an understanding of his identity. Duddy s persistence in following his ambitions allows
him to face conflicts and explore his self identity. In the novel by Mordecai Richler, The

After graduating high school, Duddy finds a job as a waiter at Laurentian Mountains. He leaves his
family back home and goes to work to prove that he is capable of making money. He accepts a
challenging waiter job to show his uncle that he is as skillful as his brother, Lennie. Most of the
employees at Laurentian Mountains are college students, ...first and second year McGill boys (64),
other than Duddy. Most of the college boys come from more prosperous families and Duddy found it
difficult (64). Despite being treated inferiorly at home and in the workplace, Duddy is resilient in
working hard for money. While working with college boys, he is seen as inferior and someone who is
odd , because of how poor he is. Oh it, has a grandfather (70), demonstrates that by calling Duddy it,
they are bullying him. These experiences take a huge toll on how Duddy sees the world and the way
he begins to interact with those around him.
People s expectations of themselves can often lead them to make irrational and unwise decisions. In
the novel, Duddy sets expectations for himself, based on words that were once told to him by his
grandfather. His grandfather, Simcha, has lived his life under the harsh conditions of poverty. By
telling Duddy that a man without land is nobody (44), and not explaining fully to Duddy what he
means, Simcha has unknowingly changed his

Although death is a natural part of life, the thought of dying understandably still frightens many
people. You may imagine pain and loneliness, spending your final days in the cold, sterile

Domestic Violence and Social Problems
Domestic violence is a devastating social problem that impacts every sector of our population.
Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to
gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner(USDOJ,2012). Domestic violence
can be physical, economic, emotional, sexual, or psychological. Physical domestic violence is an
attempt to impose physical injury such as grabbing, slapping, hitting, biting, etc. Physical violence can
also be withholding necessary resources to sustain health such as medication, food, sleep, or forcing
alcohol or other drug use. Economic abuse is an attempt to make the victim financially dependent.
Such as sustaining control over financial resources ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children who encounter domestic violence face increased risk of exposure to traumatic events. These
risks may include neglect, being directly abused, losing one or both of their parents. At birth, a baby s
brain is 25% of its adult weight, increasing to 66% by the end of the first year due to the brain growth
spurt which occurs between the seventh prenatal month and the child s first birthday. The developing
brain is the most vulnerable to the impact of traumatic experiences during this time. New research on
the brain development suggests that exposure to extreme trauma will change the organization of the
brain, resulting in difficulties in dealing with stress later in life(NSW, 2002). Exposure to domestic
violence can subject children to pervasive traumatic stress which leads to Post traumatic Stress
Disorder also known as PTSD. Post traumatic stress disorder is a type of anxiety disorder. It can occur
after you have gone through an extreme emotional trauma that involved the threat of injury or death.
Summarizing several studies, Rossman and colleagues report that 13 50% of youth exposed to
interparental violence qualify for diagnosis of PTSD (NCBI,2007). Each child responds differently to
trauma, some may be rigid and not exhibit negative effects. In 2011, child protective services received
3.4 million referrals, over 75 percent suffered from neglect which is one of the effects from children
exposed to domestic violence. The National Comorbidity Survey

Cars Model In The Interdisciplinary Field Of Computer...
An Analysis of Research Article Introductions Using the CARS Model in the Interdisciplinary Field of
Computer Science and Hospitality Management
Writing a good research article (RA) is essential for scholars and scientists. As genre analysis has
become more mainstream over the past few years, there are a lot of researchers using CARS model,
which was designed by Swales (1990), to study research article instructions (RAIs). As stated by
Swales Feak (2012), there are three moves in the introductory sections of RAs: (1) establishing a
territory, (2) establishing a niche and (3) occupying the niche, and they have a very predictable order
of occurrence. In addition, there are sub moves called steps, some of which are obligatory, while
others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also argued that the variations in the presence of certain steps may be greater than Swales CARS
model indicated both in different fields and their sub disciplines. For example, the step where the
remaining RA structure is summarized has a very high occurrence in electrical and electronic
engineering RAIs compared to other disciplines, even though it is not obligatory. Furthermore,
introductions in software engineering were found to be rather long because they used a great amount
of cycling, a repetitive use of the moves back and forth, in order to make sure that readers will have
enough background information to understand the articles which is contrary to some of Swales
observations. For instance, Shehzad (2012) discovered that the cycling of move 2 appeared frequently
in computer science echoing past findings. All of these examples show how the CARS model is used
differently depending on RPs subject. Juxtaposing the use of CARS model in RAIs of computer
science and hospitality management, one can clearly see how the applications of CARS model can
vary. Rafik Galea, Mello Arumugam (2013) stated that move 3 was the most important and frequently
utilized of the three moves in hospitality management RAIs. They also indicated that the most
common ordering of the moves in hospitality was move 1 move 3 move 3. On the other hand, Shehzad
(2012) found out that in the computer science field, most authors did not include the step of listing

Introgenic government
Topic: Response and Social Policy paper on Iatrogenic Government The response to drug use in
America and in some countries around the world seems to have an interesting history. As the author
Daniel Patrick Moynihan describes the unintended consequences society faces when government does
not deal effectively with issues of drugs in society. He provided several references that shows the
historical and present connections to government interrelations and how many of these decisions have
some form of negative impact and at times causes social breakdown. His historical reference to drug

how government decisions can affect us. Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus as the author begins to address the issues related to drugs his reference about the government s
approach ring truth The truth in either event is that we were mostly asserting what we did not know
and would need to learn (pg. 353). The author s reference to technology is relevant but I will address
the issue of technology later on as I respond to his summary. The history of drug use represents
lessons that were long been seen but obviously overlooked by doctors as well as pharmaceutical
companies. The earlier efforts by government to regulate drug use or alcohol consumption began with
some regulations on Jamaican rum. Since distilled liquor was used in social events, the government
approaches in regulating the trafficking of the distilled liquor was by levying heavy fines on the
general tariff bill. The cost of importing Jamaican rum was costlier than distilled liquor here in
America. Again, at the time, the government was mostly dealing with the abolition of slavery and
again the issues around alcohol consumption were minimally dealt with. Distilled spirits in earlier
America was part of bringing Americans together during times of unity. It was a time to earn easy
money and have an all around good time (pg. 354). People enjoyed alcohol in the morning for
breakfast as well as a celebratory thing. The government knew that drinking alcohol or distilled liquor
caused some medical issues but again, the

Watergate Scandal Essay
On June 18, 1972, the Washington Post published an article under the title 5 Held in Plot to Bug
Democrats Office Here . The author, Alfred E. Lewis, claimed that five men, one being an ex CIA
agent, three being native born Cubans, and the last being said to have trained Cuban exiles for guerilla
warfare, were caught planting bugs in the offices of the National Democratic Committee. This article
sparked an important breakthrough in American journalism. Catching the attention of Post writers Carl
Bernstein and Bob Woodward, they began to pursue the story. The works later published by Bernstein

In their conversation, which is written in Dennis Lythgoe s article Tapes Show Nixon Weighed Pros
and Cons of Hush Money , Dean said it would take one million dollars to pay off the five men, an
amount that would be hard to raise. Nixon replied, you could get a million dollars. You could get it in
cash. I know where it could be gotten. It is not easy, but it could be done. The president s own words
proved that he was involved with the break in and that he used hush money to keep witnesses silent.
Another tape recording, called the smoking gun , uncovered Nixon s exploitation of the CSI. In the
tape, Nixon plans to have Richard Helms, the Director of the CIA, and Vernon A. Walters, the Deputy
Director of the CIA, call the Director of the CIA, Patrick Gray, and demand that he stop the Watergate
investigation. This crime was more severe than the hush money crime, and it was the prime reason
Nixon was charged with obstruction of justice.
Nixon was secondly charged with Abuse of Power (Article II), essentially because of his misuse of
executive personnel (historyplace.com). He used the FBI to harass enemies that he saw as political
opponents (presidentprofiles.com). Nixon requested investigations of these enemies in an attempt to
find information about them that he could leak to the press. He used the Secret Service as well to gain

The Influence of IM on Society
Before I explore how a term like cyberculture has became a phenomena, I must first explain what
cyberculture is. According to wordreference.com, cyberculture is the culture that emerges from the use
of computers for communication and entertainment and business. When asked to do this research on
communication and the changes society has gone through as a result of something technological, the
first thing I thought of was instant messaging. In an article, Internet jargon, acronyms enter English

With the option of instant messaging services incorporated into cell phones, people can talk on IM
from their phones without disturbing people with their voices.
Nonverbal communication is a form of communication that is always communicating, even when one
isn t speaking. An example of nonverbal communication is when one is talking or listening one might
smile, indicating they are happy with what was communicated or one might yawn indicating one is
bored or not interested with the topic of conversation. Without the luxury of seeing each other in
cyberspace, nonverbal cues are not known. Since IM has become popular everything has become
abbreviated, even ones emotion and nonverbal cues. IM users have become aware of the distance
associated with cyber communication. To compensate for the distance users have created a way to
make IM more personal. Examples of emotion and nonverbal cues were created to fill the
communication gaps, examples are: :) I m happy, :( I m sad , :S I have mixed feelings, 8) I m wide
awake, :0 I m surprised, (:0 I m very surprised, :p Sticking out the tongue, :9 Yummy, :/ Hmmm, :v I

Religion In Life Of Pi
In the novel Life of Pi, Pi Patel is a young boy who lives to tell a story to make you believe in god
(Martel 19). Pi believes in three faiths throughout his life and the novel, Hinduism, Christianity, and
Islam. He finds a common spirit behind each of these religions and they come together to guide Pi
through his journey and his life. Pi is faced with the challenge of staying alive on a lifeboat with a
Bengal tiger for months on end. He uses his faith and religion to guide him and keep him alive as well
as carrying this belief to his adulthood.
Pi is born as a Hindu, and it is the first of the three religions he comes to know and practice
throughout his life. When Pi was a child, his mother and aunt took him to a Hindu temple for the first
time. Pi did not really remember it, as he was so young, but something of the sultriness and mystery of
the place must have stayed with [him] (Martel 99). Pi s first religious experience was all sensory, but
left and profound impact on him and gave him his passion for religion. It brought foundation to his life
and led him to other religious imagination in Islam and Christianity later in the novel. Pi becomes very

  • 2. What Are Genetic And Environmental Factors That Affect The... Ultraviolet (UV) light is just outside of our visual range. It s fairly energetic and causes changes to human tissue. This should be fairly obvious since it tans the skin, causes sun burns, prematurely ages the skin, and can damage the eyes. Just as some types of people are more likely to suffer from skin cancer because of UV exposure, some types of people have a better than average chance of suffering from UV related eye damage. There are two general factors that contribute to this vulnerability: your genetics and external circumstances that increase your exposure to sunlight. Your Genetics Just as fair skinned people have a higher incidence of skin cancer, people with light colored eyes such as blue or green have a higher risk of melanoma ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It simply takes more of it. It may not cause the same level of discomfort, but it still interferes with a clear view of the road when driving. Your External Circumstances There are many non genetic external factors that affect your risk of UV related eye damage. These include: You re an Outdoors Person This makes sense since UV eye damage is a cumulative process. Your risk of UV eye problems later in life is the sum of all the hours spent every day in the sun. This includes cloudy days. Some activities are especially risky. These include skiing, mountain climbing, time at the beach, and boating. Nike sunglasses have a large selection that accommodates the needs of most outdoor enthusiasts and athletes. You Live in Mountainous or Sunbelt States The higher your altitude, the less protective atmosphere above you to protect against UV light. This means you get a higher rate of exposure than someone living at sea level. Thick clouds and bad weather do block some UV light. However, sunbelt states are predominantly sunny, which means you get more UV exposure than those who live elsewhere. The southerly locale of the sunbelt states also means the sun is higher overhead during all seasons of the year. Sunglasses are a must for those living in areas with high UV

Fake. Fake. I giggled at our secretive insult, but I lost focus for a second. In my head, I imagined a mirror. I saw myself a girl with a big smile painted across her face. Then, this girl pointed to her own reflection. Fake. Every day, my eyes scan this stupid place called high school a dark tunnel I never find light at the end of. Here s a list of people I see: 1. Attention whores Girl I Hate Number One with Girl I Hate Number Two, and their little hater ettes following close behind. What s so great about them? It s obvious everyone loves them; no one hates or even dislikes these bitches. But, the way they act on the outside doesn t cover up what s on the inside: rude, bitter hatred. No one sees beyond this. They are viewed as the most gorgeous and fun girls ever. Ugh. 2. Miss High School Burnout The druggie alcoholic, yet still popular as ever, girl. I have no idea how someone with zero morals gets so many friends. Clinging to her is her little freshman slave (premature attention whore to the max) who everyone also likes, though I don t know why. The only thing Mary Jane talks about is how high and wasted she gets. All. The. Time. Last weekend was killer shots after shots after shots... Super baked right now... • 5. Compare And Contrast Florentine Art In The Quattrocento In the 15th Century, Italy was the hub of the arts, humanism, technological innovations and science. This period is commonly referred to as the Renaissance, and it is stated that Florence was in the heart of it, although Venice was also prominent in its artistic development. In this essay, the characteristics of Florentine and Venetian art in the Quattrocento will be analysed, and a comparison and contrast between the two will be conducted. In the Quattrocento, Italy was divided into different city states, such as Florence, Venice, Milan and Siena , amongst others, each ruled by its own government. In this essay, the focus will be on Florence and Venice and smaller cities which were influenced by their artists. The Renaissance started in Florence, a few years after the year 1400 . The two artists were essential in the development of Florentine art, whereby Donatello, influenced by Classical antiquity, soon became the best sculptor of his time, by depicting figures larger than life, such as his St. George Tabernacle, which is full of movement and realism; St. George s expression sombre, and his pose naturalistic . On the other hand, Brunelleschi discovered one point perspective, in turn influencing young artists like Masaccio, whose fresco The Holy Trinity was revolutionary, as it included all that Ghiberti, Donatello and Brunelleschi had discovered: drama, realism, emotion and depth, and made use of classical elements. Essay On Containerized Shipping Final Paper Maritime Terrorist Attacks via Containerized Shipping Christopher Welch Author Note This paper was prepared for Operations Management 5993, taught by Dr. Livingston Executive Summary There is a growing concern over the vulnerabilities of port security and the possible exploitation of these vulnerabilities by a terrorist organization; specifically, the use of containerized shipping. The vastness of the process of maritime operations alone creates a large opportunity for vulnerability, but add to it the different regulation requirements by all the different countries involved in the global market and there is a large difference in protection standards and the execution of them. This paper will explore the possibilities of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main agenda of Maritime security is protection of our National ports. By preventing smuggling, as well as, other threat scenarios like a ship being used as a collision weapon or transportation of Weapons of Mass Destruction. An estimated $4 trillion worth of the worlds goods are moved by see, this is roughly 80 percent of global freight and it is accomplished in the form of cargo that is transshipped. This demonstrates the shear overwhelming size of the task of tracking and inspecting all of the containers that travel to and from the United States. For all parties involved in enforcing the security measures, there is a constant battle, over executing the requirements and how much time it takes. Because most shipping companies work on a last minute deliver type system, which allows for the lowest cost of the shipping, there is really no time allocated for mistakes or inspections. So, the delay in deliver can cost millions of dollars for U.S. economy. Risk Analysis Assessment When considering the risk of maritime shipping be utilized to deliver a WMD, chemical weapon or the parts to create one, a solid assessment of the probability of it happening and impact if it happened needs to be completed. The probability of this type of attack is low, but the impact of it, if it happened, would be catastrophic in terms of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Langston Hughes Harlem Harlem by Langston Hughes embodies the thoughts and feelings of a historic time period. A surge of artistic expression among African Americans led the way to a movement that is now known as the Harlem Renaissance. Creative works depicting the social forecast of the day began to emerge. Harlem was written during this fascinating time and flawlessly incorporates this renaissance thinking into each line. In essence, the poem conveys a sense of grievance, yet also provides a hope to break the bonds that hinder the black community. By using a varying meter and rhyme scheme and also employing the use of simile and repetition, Hughes expertly portrays the attitudes of an entire social class. Harlem has no specifically consistent meter or rhyme ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The words does, like, and or are repeated consistently. This allows the reader to acknowledge the structure of each stanza but contributes to the audience s awareness of the subject of the poem (a dream deferred) as well. It is also important to note alliteration found in some of the lines. In the first two lines, Hughes uses an alliterating d and then an alliterating s in lines three through four and six through nine. This draws attention to repetition and also adds to the cohesiveness of the poem. By far, the most obvious and significant aspect of Harlem can be found by the implantation of similes. Each simile used is imperative to understanding the true meaning behind the postponed or ended dream that Hughes references. Hughes implies that many obstacles and challenges exist which can defer a dream. For one, it may dry up like a raisin in the sun. Perhaps a dream can lose its livelihood and dry up to be soon forgotten. A dream can also fester like a sore and then run. The lines imply that a denied dream may constantly be on the mind and be a very uncomfortable subject. Hughes writes a dream can stink like rotten meat, which suggests a nauseating sense of ... The prevalence of drug use and the prevalence of crime is hard to measure and there is also a possibility that other factors influence both drug use and crime (Hammersley, 2008). Drug use is a largely illegal activity consequently making it extremely difficult to measure (Bean, 2008). There are a lot of problems measuring the prevalence of drug use in society as it mainly hidden away to avoid prosecution. Coomber et al. At birth, a baby s brain is 25% of its adult weight, increasing to 66% by the end of the first year due to the brain growth spurt which occurs between the seventh prenatal month and the child s first birthday. The developing brain is the most vulnerable to the impact of traumatic experiences during this time. New research on the brain development suggests that exposure to extreme trauma will change the organization of the brain, resulting in difficulties in dealing with stress later in life(NSW, 2002). An Analysis of Research Article Introductions Using the CARS Model in the Interdisciplinary Field of Computer Science and Hospitality Management Writing a good research article (RA) is essential for scholars and scientists. As genre analysis has become more mainstream over the past few years, there are a lot of researchers using CARS model, which was designed by Swales (1990), to study research article instructions (RAIs). As stated by Swales Feak (2012), there are three moves in the introductory sections of RAs: (1) establishing a territory, (2) establishing a niche and (3) occupying the niche, and they have a very predictable order of occurrence. In addition, there are sub moves called steps, some of which are obligatory, while others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also argued that the variations in the presence of certain steps may be greater than Swales CARS model indicated both in different fields and their sub disciplines. For example, the step where the remaining RA structure is summarized has a very high occurrence in electrical and electronic engineering RAIs compared to other disciplines, even though it is not obligatory. Furthermore, introductions in software engineering were found to be rather long because they used a great amount of cycling, a repetitive use of the moves back and forth, in order to make sure that readers will have enough background information to understand the articles which is contrary to some of Swales observations. For instance, Shehzad (2012) discovered that the cycling of move 2 appeared frequently in computer science echoing past findings. All of these examples show how the CARS model is used differently depending on RPs subject. Juxtaposing the use of CARS model in RAIs of computer science and hospitality management, one can clearly see how the applications of CARS model can vary. Rafik Galea, Mello Arumugam (2013) stated that move 3 was the most important and frequently utilized of the three moves in hospitality management RAIs.
