Social And Economic Effects Of The Industrial Revolution
The Industrial revolution was a period between the eighteenth and ninteenth centuries, and the Old
agrarian economy became more industrialized and urban. Before this period of time, manufacturing was
often performed in homes and was handmade. These techniques developed over time turning into
factories, textile industry, and new technologies. The new industrialization effected the people in terms of
mass production and new technologies.
Mass production is a system of manufacturing in which machines rapidly product large amounts of a
product. This began in the textile industry and decreased the need for skilled workers, and unskilled
workers became increasingly important. When these machines were developed, wages declined and costs
of making goods declined as well, resulting in economic growth. There were many unskilled workers who
can operate these machines and so they were competing with each other and offering to work for less.
Goods could also be shipped farther ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Bessemer process was developed which involved the method of steel production. New business
models made it easier for businesses to operate increased the availability of banking. Railroads increased
mileage allowed raw materials and other goods to be shipped more quickly at farther distances. This
improved business production for people of the era and improved the methods of transportation. Railroads
linked the nation because goods could be shipped more quickly and less expensively, and the price of
goods decreased, increasing the size of markets.
In Summary, The Industrial revolution effected people of the era in many ways, including mass
production factories and new technologies improving businesses and transportation. There was less of a
need of skilled workers and their were lower wages, which resulted in economic growth. New
technologies improved business and transportation, and goods were shipped more quickly and

How Digestive System Work Together
The digestive system helps the humans break down food and turn it into nutrients. The digestive system is
made up of a lot of different organs such as salivary glands, pharynx, mouth, esophagus, stomach, liver,
gallbladder, small intestine, large intestine, and pancreas. Salivary glands produce saliva, which keeps the
mouth and other parts of the digestive system moist. The pharynx role in the digestive system is to
connect the nose and mouth to the esophagus. The mouth is used for putting in food and also eating the
food. The esophagus has only one function and it is to carry food, saliva, and liquid. The stomach receives
the food from the esophagus and secretes acid and enzymes that digest food. The liver regulates the

intestine is a long, thin tube that is located in just inferior in the stomach and takes up most of the space in
the abdominal cavity. Its job is to absorb nutrients and materials next is the gall bladder it is located under

the digestion of subsequent meals. After the gallbladder is the large intestine. It is a long thick tube that is

Essay on The Commander
To what extent is the Commander presented as both villain and a figure of sympathy?
The commander can be seen as a man torn between two worlds, he was one of the founders of Gilead yet
still enjoys and yearns for the pleasures of the old society he managed to break. The commander is cool
and collected on the surface but underneath he is bitter and corrupted for the world he has managed to
create. The commander secretly longs for the world to be as it once was and this is why he savours his
time with Offred because she may remind him of life before Gilead. It is also ironic how both characters
feel under the surface an anger and repression of Gilead and they both want to break free. However on the
surface when they play scrabble with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could represent the villainous side to him, as his power and authority create a shield, which hides his
true self. This means Offred and the reader are not completely sure of who he is and his wants.
Throughout this chapter the theme of having or gaining more power is very evident. The fact that the
commander does have so much power and Offred has so little makes him more villainous. This is because
we can evidently see how Offred could be so easily manipulated by this very powerful man.
However we see a more villainous side to The Commander when he asks Offred to play scrabble with
him. He manipulates Offred into having almost a false relationship with him because this is non existent
with his wife, Serena Joy. The relationship between the commander and Serena Joy is very numb, cold
and formal. They are very alike in character and so they control each other. Their relationship is somewhat
business like and lifeless. In one chapter Serena Joy says to Offred He s my Husband till death do us part
and this sentence feels almost forced. As the reader we feel she says this because of the last handmaid and
because of the jealousy she feels towards Offred. She wants to take it away before she can even have it.
This relationship with Serena Joy puts things out of balance and Offred and in a way wants to go back to
normality. He is unhappy about the situation in Gilead and wants to forget about the present and live in the
past. He

Memorable Childhood Event Essay
A Memorable Childhood Event Everyone remembers something from their childhood whether it be bad or
good everyone remember something. Most of these memories are good such as meeting your best friend
or getting that one toy that you always wanted. Sometimes it is a bad memory because of family or
sometime happened to you or to one of your family members. Whatever the case might be everyone
remembers something or at least they should remember something. One time when I was little I remember
getting surgery done when I was about six years old, like I said some are good others are bad. This
happened when I was six years old, during the summer of 2006, and got over by the time school started.
When I went to get a checkup with my doctor he said that my left kidney was swollen to the point where it
was at least twice as big as the right one was. My mother heard this and she said how do we fix it and they
said that you must got to the Billings hospital and see if they could get what was wrong with the kidney

A Short Note On El De Las Frutas

A Resource Based Analysis of Starbucks
A Resource Based Analysis of Starbucks
The current economic situation has required that organizations rethink the way that they do business. With
people losing jobs and salaries being cut, people are spending money on essentials and opting less and less
to spend on the extras. Groceries, rent, housing, transportation, education are of value while grooming,

Rowling. The main character Harry Potter, discovers that he not an ordinary boy, he is in fact, a wizard.
Harry soon discovers that he is famous, famous for the downfall of a corrupt wizard, Lord Voldemort.
Harry finds out that he has been accepted into a school,
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, a school for young witches and wizards.
While in school, he becomes friends with another wizard named Ronald Weasely and witch, Hermione

Harry, was a normal boy, until discovering he was a wizard, his parents were wizards, and he was famous
for the downfall of a corrupt wizard. Harry fights trolls, and plants, very headstrong, good willed, and
smart. Ronald Weasely comes from a wizarding family, has many big brothers and one sister, who is the
youngest. He is smart, kind, and clumsy. He loves to joke and gets worried very quickly. Sticks up for
friends, and won t let anyone hurt them. Hermione Granger, very smart, sweet, sometimes acts like a now
it all. Cares for her friends, helps them out when she can. Professor Dumbledore, Head Master of the
Hogwarts, very helpful and very kind, one of the most powerful wizards around. Hagrid,
Greens Keeper at Hogwarts, one of Harrys friends, very sensitive, and a great love for animals. Professor
Quirrell, Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, evil guy who helped
Lord Voldemort. and Lord Voldemort. The theme is, I think, that J.K. Rowling wanted to show was that
good things can come from bad situations. Example: Hermione had ran to the girls restroom when Ron
made fun of her, the troll got let loose and Ron and Harry went and fought the troll. Ron and Hermione
were friends again afterwards. Rowling also wanted to show unexpected things can occur at any time.

Characteristics Of Clarissa Dalloway
Clarissa Dalloway A Modernist Conceived Character
Modernism in European literature developed highly between the 1900 and 1920 although its beginning is
often associated with Virginia Woolf s statement that human nature went through a fundamental change on
or about December 1910. (Woolf, 1966: 319). Modernism is generally characterized by a brake with the
traditional writing, a desire for experimental literary form and a way of expressing the new sensibilities of
their time (Childs, 2008: 4).
According to the sociologist Georg Simmel the modernist writers were preoccupied with creating strong
individualities able to deal with new problems of life: The deepest problems of modern life derive from

Italian Influence On The Renaissance
When contemplating on the Renaissance and its place in history, immediately reflections of Leonardo da
Vinci s Mona Lisa, Michelangelo s David, sculptures of human anatomy, philosophical treatises on the
human condition, and among others populate the mind, but how did this output of great work manage to
seemingly appear almost simultaneously? Firstly, the Renaissance a French word literally meaning rebirth
was an age of cultural enrichment and achievement where the arts, sciences, and philosophy flourished
largely due to the revival and revisitation of ancient Greek and roman texts. Its period is generally dated
from the early 14th to the mid 17th centuries beginning in Italy. Italy spawned the Renaissance due to its

In figure 1, titled The Plaque of Acrobats, is a painting by the French artist Pierre Penicaud is clearly

however if we were to widen our scope one can understand the physical and mental agility that s beneath
the goal of brilliant skill. Acrobatics allow for the showcasing of male agility and strength highlighting the
humanistic quality for pursuit of excellence. The use of grisaille accentuates the abstract aspects of the
design at the expense of realism. The manipulation of anatomy for aesthetic effect is characteristic of the
mannerist style [2]. Naturalism is often confused with realism , a style of art that focuses on realities and
truth, rather than the ideals and aesthetics. The difference between Realism and Naturalism is that realism
tends to be preoccupied with the content of the art rather than technique or methodology. This means that
the primary focus is on the subject who or what rather than how it is created. Typically, realist artists

Gram Positive Bacteria
The first unknown test tube P found to be a gram positive bacteria. The biochemical that I performed that
were positive were catalase and blood agar. Catalase has the presence of an enzyme in the test isolated
detected using hydrogen peroxide. Bacteria possess catalase with a small number of bacteria; isolation is
added to hydrogen peroxide when bubbles occur. When the bubbles occurred on gram positive bacterium
it was a conformation of being positive. Also, blood agar plates is useful for cultivating fastidious
organisms and for determining the hemolytic capabilities of an organism. There are three types of
hemolysis, such as, beta hemolysis, alpha hemolysis, and y hemolysis. Beta hemolysis breaks down the
red blood cells and hemoglobin completely. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The biochemical has allowed me to find the bacterium, which was identified as Streptococcus pneumonia.
In 1881 Streptococcus pneumonia was isolated by Louis Pasteur, the species was known as pneumococcus
due to its role in the disease, pneumonia. In 1926 it was termed diplococcus pneumonia due to its
propensity to exist in pairs of cells, but in 1974 it was renamed Streptococcus pneumoniae due to its
formation of chains in liquid. It also played a key role in history molecular genetics. It has shown the
significant increase in antibiotic resistance because it is due to its use of natural transformation system
used for genetic exchange and can develop resistance to antibiotics through mutation and natural
selection. Streptococcus pneumoniae is known to cause pneumonia, a disease of the upper respiratory tract
that causes illness and death all over the world. The symptoms of pneumoniae is when you cough greenish
or yellow mucous, fever, chills, shortness of breath and chest pain. The bacteria enter the body by
inhalation of small water droplets. To treat bacterial infections cause by Streptococcus pneumoniae is the

Public Services Unit Practicum Examples
I did my practicum with the Traffic, Patrol, Identification, and Public Services units. Most of time I was
with the Patrol Unit learning the ins and outs of the back of police work. Except for the identification unit,
all the units acted the same and did the same except with a focus in a specific area. Traffic focuses on
traffic control and traffic violations, public services helps the public with issues, and patrol work does all
these things out on the street. Identification is the only difference, they help build court files by seizing
and processing evidence for cases. The Identification Unit (Ident.) has to the most tedious of all. Officers
have to record everything that they do at a scene and in the lab during processing. As Darby showed me,

Besides ticketing for speeding or expired licences, the Traffic Unit has to explain the law to people and

and dealing with it is not so easy. The mass of paperwork that is needed just to seize a vehicle, get it
towed, charge the person, get a breath sample, and authorizations is tedious enough. The officers, in
addition, have to have the discretion to choose their battles involving the law. The discretion to challenge
if someone has their vehicle insured and if they should try to charge someone for being under the
influence of a drug well driving as a few examples. The officers also need to arrest and control people
who are under the influence, which is not easy. One example of this is the one younger man that was upset
and suicidal after an arrest. Dealing with all this constantly, there is a very real lack of empathy and
motivation to pursue difficult charges; therefore, concentrating on the faster and easier

When I started to write my first draft, I was surprised and impressed how quickly and easily I have put all

The Fair Work Commission ( Fwc )
This week saw the Fair Work Commission (FWC) bring down an adjustment to Penalty rates in Australia
for some Retail and Hospitality Workers. If you read the newspapers, listen to the radio, and watch TV
coverage it comes across as the greatest betrayal of the working man (or woman) since the great
Depression.
In this article I ll give my view on this. Disclaimer: I own a couple of Small Business s which (potentially)
benefit from this decision. I have looked after the HR department of a larger ASX listed company in the
past and have some reasonable HR experience. I also really think retail shops should be closed on a
Sunday so people can do other (more sociable, community and family friendly) activities rather than

In relation to Sunday rates, the commission cut: Hospitality award rates for full time and part time
workers from 175% to 150% Fast food award rates for level one employees from 150% to 125% for full
time and part time employees and from 175% to 150% for casuals Retail award rates for full time and part
time employees from 200% to 150% and for casuals from 200% to 175% Pharmacy award rates from
200% to 150% for full time and part time workers for work between 7am and 9pm, and from 200% to
175% for casuals at the same times.
Sunday rates remained at 175% for casuals in the hospitality industry, and there was no cut for level two
and three employees in the fast food award. The commission cut public holiday rates in the hospitality and
retail awards except for clubs from 250% to 225% for full time and part time employees. The casuals rate
will be 250%.
Interestingly the FWC sis not adjust the penalty rates for the Award that governs restaurants.

Unsurprisingly the employer groups have come out and stated that this would lead to an increase in

Difference Between Rulemaking And Adjudication
In 1946 Congress enacted the Administrative Procedure Act (APA) to provide minimum standards for
federal agencies (Szypszak, 2011). Szypszak (2011) further states that the APA addressed the fundamental
aspects of agency rulemaking and adjudication. APA authorizes two basic forms of administrative action:
rulemaking and adjudication. Rulemaking is a quasi legislative function that sets standards for future
application (Ferguson, 2006). According to Vago (2015) administrative rulemaking is the single most
important function carried out by a government agency. He states that it is the establishment of
prospective rules. Rulemaking is the process for formulating policy for the future by promulgating,
amending, or repealing a rule that provides ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adjudication is the administrative equivalent of a judicial trial. Under adjudication, individual cases are
heard by law judges within agencies and a body of rules is developed (Kettl, 2015). Adjudication differs
from rulemaking in that it applies only to a specific, limited number of parties involved in an individual
case before the agency (Vago, 2015). The Administrative Procedure Act (APA) separates adjudication
from rulemaking by stating that adjudication is an agency process for the formulation of an order and an
order is a final disposition in a matter other than rulemaking. There is formal and informal adjudication.
Formal adjudication involves some kind of hearing, whereas informal adjudication takes place in settings
that are non confrontational and often not even face to face and is undertaken by non hearing deciders
(Cane, 2009). Adjudications can take many forms, but generally can be grouped into law enforcement
adjudications (such as those conducted by the Federal Trade Commission) benefits adjudications (such as
those conducted by the Social Security Administration) and licensing and permit adjudications (such as
those conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency) (Forte and Spalding,

The Economic And Social Changes During The 1960s Under The...
Life in America began to undergo great economic and social changes during the 1980s under the Reagan
Administration. During this period of time, stagflation began to distress the US economy, leaving millions
of Americans to fall victim to homelessness and poverty. The unemployment rate had reached its highest
peak since the Great Depression, creating a major crisis for low income families and other individuals
concerning living conditions. The introduction of Reaganism into society primarily focused on reducing
the growth of government spending through the modulation of federal income tax and reduction of
government regulation to diminish inflation. Despite all attempts for economic recovery, the US struggled
to bounce back from the 1970s recession and in time led to the significant rise in urban poverty. Uniquely,
an American film director from the 1980s by the name of John Carpenter produced a science fiction film,
They Live, that served as a powerful and eye opening depiction of his own personal views of Reaganism
(Reaganomics). He essentially depicts our world to be controlled by powerful elites who have created a
repressive society that we are unwilling brought to live and build in. He also clarifies how the majority of
Americans during the 1980s were focused primarily on materialism and how an individual s success was
measured by the amount of money they possessed. Carpenter s major criticisms of 1980s America
included the impact of consumerism in America as well as

main title, the irony of it is that the word guest is not necessarily used to really describe a guest, because
the guest is the prisoner of the French government. The arab prisoner, had been convicted of supposingly
killing his cousin while they were in the village, the police want to get the arab prisoner to France for a
trial regarding his conviction. The short story ``The Guest is much more appropriate rather than titling the
story The Prisoner because, the story isn t based on the Prisoner and his choices and decisions, but more
towards Daru and the duties he had to fufill as he was the host. 5. This story has as its background a
specific political situation the French Algerian crisis in the years following World War II. How does Daru
reflect France s plight? Is the story s meaning limited to this situation? What does the story tell us about
good and evil and the nature of moral choice?
In the short story The Guest by Albert Camus, Daru s predicament goes hand in hand with France s
difficulties and Camus self appreciation. In the short story The Guest we are introduced to see Daru s
concern to attend the political situation in the French North

Taking a Look at the Movie Godzilla
Godzilla Review Essay I like movies with a strong female lead. A girl that defies all limits and proves
herself to be just as worthy as any man. That being said, I was a tad wary about seeing the new Godzilla
movie. The only reason I went was because my boyfriend was very excited to see it and being the dutiful
girlfriend I am, I went along with an open mind. My expectations were quite low, since this movie didn t
fit in with my usual genre. I never anticipated to actually like the film. Godzilla is a wonderful film that
everyone should see because it has a wonderful cast, great action, and amazing special effects. The film
opens with the audience meeting the Brody Family. Joe (Bryan Cranston), Sandra (Juliette Binoche), and
their son, Ford, who live in Japan. Both Joe and Sandra work at a nuclear power plant that is concerned
about some unusual seismic activity. A tremor hits the plant, causing a breach in the reactors. Sandra is
underground with the reactors and will be exposed to the radioactive chemicals if she doesn t get out in
time. Joe races downstairs to try and save his wife, but she does not make it out in time and Joe must
watch his wife die a painful death. Across the island, young Ford Brody watches as the reactor collapses,
knowing that his parents are inside. Fast forward to the present day, Lieutenant Ford Brody (Aaron Taylor
Johnson) returns home after a 14 month long deployment with the Navy. He is welcomed with open arms
by his wife, Elle

Go Set A Watchman Conflict Analysis
A major conflict in Go Set a Watchman is the epiphany/reality check that Jean Louise goes through. She
realizes that Maycomb may be in the same location, but almost everything has changed. My aunt is a
hostile stranger, my Calpurnia won t have anything to do with me, Hank is insane, and Atticus something
s wrong with me, it s something about me. It has to be because all these people cannot have changed.
(167) It may have changed physically or metaphorically for example, the home that she grew up in is now

Psychology And Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy
This week as I begun to read the theories that include Individual Psychology, Rational Emotive
Behavioral Therapy (REBT), and Cognitive Behavior Therapy I found that choosing which theory that I
identified the most with is getting harder and harder. These theories are so similar. This led me to use a
process of elimination which still left me with two Individual Psychology and Rational Emotive
Behavioral Therapy. Individual Psychology was created by Alfred Adler who was coddled as a child until
another child was born which led to his interest in birth order. Adler worked with Sigmund Freud and
often disagreed with his thought that the motivation of man were solely motivated by sex and aggression.
Adler believe that man was motivated by social influence and striving for superiority. This indifference is
what led to the foundation of Individual Psychology. Adler believed that people were responsible,
creative, connected, social individuals who actions work toward their goals (Henderson Thompson, 2012,
Pg. 345). He believed that all individuals are born helpless and remain that way for a long period of time
causing them to develop inferiority. Inferiority maybe caused by older and more powerful siblings, or
being neglected, rejected, or over pampered by their parents. Individual who suffer from inferiority will
often try to compensate or gain power over the feeling of weakness that occurs. Mosak and Maniacci

The Industrial Revolution Of The Green Revolution
Introduction
To date, historical evidence, from the industrial revolution to the green revolution, show that agriculture
growth has long been the engine of development. This idea has long helped promoting the capitalist
agriculture transition as the only path to rise resident s income (Zhang, et al., 2015) in order to get people
out of poverty. Accordingly, many started celebrating the global rise in incomes as a success of those
policies while the lagging in Africa showed the undermined inequalities and marginalisation of the most
vulnerable categories. Yet, the specificity in Africa is, today, getting more and more attention as it shows
not only the persistence of poverty but a high concentration in rural areas.
Accordingly, the starting point of this paper is that agriculture growth is definitely necessary but the
management of the transition process and the understanding of the past and the initial interconnected
conditions lead to different path and development patterns beyond the polarized debate between
traditional as pro poor and the advanced as urban bias. To do so, firstly a study of the different global
patterns of poverty, where it is concentrated, who are the poor and the resulting social relations is needed.
Afterwards, the concept of initial conditions will be explored with a focus on the role of the initial
technical investment in shaping the urban bias development patterns. Finally, the two previous conditions
will be explored with a political economic

Essay The History of Rock and Roll
Rock music has come a long way since its development in the early 20th century. The genre, defined as a
merger between rhythm blues and country (Scaruffi, The History of Rock Music:1955 1966), started out
more as an underground market, but ended up becoming a significant aspect of American popular music
history. Rock n Roll music produce many legendary artists who will for ever be known as innovators of
the genre. Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry were some of the many artists in Rock n Roll who will always
live on in their music. Many teenagers were also to identify it due to its rebellious nature their disapproval
of the cold war. Towards the end of the 1950s, Rock n Roll was ending on a particularly bad note, with a
brief decline:

However, the 1960s was considered at a stand still when it came to popular music. In 1964, when the
Beatles arrived to America, everything changed. I think this was the time when Rock n Roll was truly
reborn as Rock music. The changing of Rock and Roll terminology is illustative. Rock and Roll became
simply Rock , connoting its new heaviness (seriousness) (Cary, pg 31) The oncoming decade allowed for
new developments within rock music and as a result, soared in popularity. The British invasion, a phrase
coined by Walter Cronkite while reporting the arrival of the Beatles in the USA,and American folk singers
were the causes of the rapid changes in Rock music. It was British bands that altered how Rock n Roll was
played, and at the the same time American folk singers were in the process of changing how its audience,
particularly the youth, perceived it.
The United states has always met with great success in exporting their own popular music to Europe.
However, the impact that the Beatles had on our country started the beginning of what Star and Waterman
call an aggressively reciprocal process (Star and Waterman, pg 255). Which is true because the Beatles s
debut on the Ed Sullivan Show was a huge success 73 million Americans watched their first appearance
on the show. After wards, British invasion groups took America by the storm. The Beatles arrival in

Vengeance in Electra, The Bacchae and Frankenstein
In today s world, vengeance is still in existence, bubbling below our calm facade, waiting for the catalyst
it needs to break loose. Evidence can be seen right now in the reactions of the American people towards
Bin Laden. He destroyed so many lives, and now, there is probably not one American that would not love
to get their minute alone with him. The American people want to hurt him the way he and his followers
hurt their fellow Americans, their family. This hunger for vengeance is completely Dionysian and is found
in more than one written work.

This is what prompted Electra and Orestes into action. Their senses were presumably on the mark
considering their mother s reaction upon hearing of Orestes death. Her primary concern is her own well
being. Orestes feigned death cleared up any misconceptions readers might have had as to what
Clytmaenestra s true sentiments were, and gives more definition unto the rationale behind Electra and
Orestes conduct.
In Frankenstein, the Dionysian principle is found twice. It exists for the monster and for Victor in an
opposing manner. For the monster, it is a little more complicated to uncover due to its backwards pattern
and the strange relationships. Victor s monster is left alone to fend for himself and discovers that he is
hideous and grotesquely frightening to all human beings he comes in contact with. With the basis of these
experiences, he deems himself unworthy of love and curses his creator for bringing him into such a cruel
world. He is determined to get even with Victor and kills his younger brother, and when Victor refuses to
create a monster companion, the monster destroys more of Victor s beloved. Victor, as the monster s
creator, is in essence, his mother, making Victor s family the monster s family as well. The monster
forsakes these family members who were ignorant of his existence. Had they known him, they might have

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy ( Cbt ) For Obsessive...
Strengths and Weaknesses in Aetiology and Treatment of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) By using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) individuals are
able to be diagnosed and treated for many anxiety disorders, one of which is Obsessive Compulsive
Disorder (OCD). OCD is an anxiety disorder associated with invasive thoughts, impulses and urges which
can cause severe anxiety for an individual. These obsessive thoughts can then cause the individual to act
compulsively to prevent the stress and anxiety that is occuring (American Psychological Association,
2013). According to CBT, OCD is caused by distorted cognitions and the way different thoughts are being
interpreted (Whittal, Thordarson McLean, 2005). Treatment for OCD includes various CBT techniques
including Psychoeducation, creating symptom hierarchies and then combining it with the behavioural
technique of Exposure Response Prevention (ERP). Both the aetiology and the treatment of the disorder
have strengths and weaknesses.
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM V) explains the criteria for OCD. OCD
is considered to be an anxiety disorder in the DSM V. Obsessions are defined as experiencing recurrent
and persistent thoughts, impulses and urges, and can be invasive and unasked for which then cause
noticeable distress and anxiety for the individual. The individual will try to ignore the unwanted thoughts
and urges or they may try to neutralise them via

Theseus A Midsummer Night s Dream
Despite the numerous physical contrasts between the forest and Athens in William Shakespeare s A
Midsummer Night s Dream, the two settings symbolically are very similar. Coupling the two locations
allows the play to question the idea of actuality versus dreams. Throughout the play, Shakespeare
juxtaposes Theseus Court with nature to parallel reality and fantasy, and resolve the obvious differences
between the two in order to illustrate that elements of reality are present in fantasy.
The two settings, at first glance, are strikingly divergent. Athens represents reason and wisdom, which is
representative of reality. It is named after the Greek God Athena, the goddess of wisdom. By setting
Theseus court in Athens, Shakespeare implies the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite these clashing characteristics, there are countless similarities between the events that take place in
each local. One connection between the two can be seen through Hippolyta and Titania. Although it is
evident that Hippolyta is a victim of misogyny, Titania s experience with patriarchy is less evident. Both
Oberon and Theseus earn love from their partners by conquering them in oe sense or another. Theseus,
...wooed [Hippolyta] with [his] sword, and won [her] love by doing [her] injuries, whereas Oberon
manipulates Titania with a spell (Shakespeare 1.1 17 18). In the end, both men obtain what they desire,
whether it be a child or marriage, and the women must abide their decision. These two characters are often
double cast to represent this relationship. By making this choice, the director and cast heighten a pre
existing (if subtle) parallel between the two characters and their positions and thus representing the
appearance of reality, even in dreams (Colborn 77). The same is true of the opposite because, Hippolyta,
by nature, is representative of the exotic and unknown (Colborn 79). She is not a true Athenian and
therefore has qualities that defy those set for her in reality. This is similar to how even though the reality
of misogyny in the forest is very apparent, she is still able to possess tremendous power as the Fairy
Queen. Hippolyta s Amazonian culture, ...differ from the Renaissance ideals of womanhood in their
complete uninterest in an erotic appeal governed by male desire (Pastor Sousa 12). This helps define her
as an aspect of the unpredictableness of dreams. These two characters are one way that Shakespeare
demonstrates the direct relation between fantasy and reality, and how aspects of both are apparent in each

Importance Of Being Earnest
The Importance of Being Ernest is a comedic play written by Oscar Wilde. It was set and written during
the Victorian Era, and is a parody of the Victorian culture. In the play, there are many different contrasting
characters, including the main character Jack, and Algernon, who we find is his brother later in the play.
Algernon is a very unserious person, who is also quite irresponsible, and just wants things in life to be fun.
We see this a few times throughout the play. For example, when there has been a big argument between
Jack and Algernon and their fiancés, he eats muffins, and says, when asked about it Well, I can t eat
muffins in an agitated manner. The butter would get on my cuffs. One should always eat muffins calmly.

or using a fake identity or person, is an okay and a normal things to do is where he says I naturally want to
talk to you about Bunburying. I want to tell you all of the rules. From this, we know that he thinks it s a
fine thing to do, and we know that he himself is also quite deceitful in that way. Also, it shows us that he s
happy to find out that Jack does the same as him, and him not finding it strange means that he thinks it s
quite a common thing to be done. Both characters are untruthful about their true identities at different
points in the play, with them both pretending to be Ernest

Essay on The Significance of the Night of Long Knives
The Night of Long Knives, one of most noteworthy events during Hitler s rule, was a purge that occurred

Von Schleicher and Gustav Ritter von Kahr, Left wing Nazis such as Gregor Strasser and many members
of the SA including its leader Ernst Rohm. It could be claimed that the murders were significant as they
ended a possible takeover by the SA, deterred and intimidated Conservative critics while gaining their

The Influence Of Political Socialization
Growing up, our views on politics and the government were always one sided because of the fact, that we
didn t understand much about any political situation but just hear what our parents or family members had
to say and agree with it. As we got older we started to develop and interest for politics and become more
active in it as it will later shape our futures. This process, in which we form ideas about politics is what we
call, political socialization. Given a quiz before hand, we were tested on out political socialization to be
shown what our views lean towards. Our group was tested to see where they thought they stood on a scale
labeling us to either be more liberal or more conservative. Later during the quiz, we were given specific
questions that would place place us on a two dimensional ideology diagram to see where we actually
stood from answering the questions truthfully. Our group will compare and contrast each other s personal
results from taking the quiz and also talk about the publics placement. Knowing that we all live a different
life growing up, we will always have our own experiences and develop new ideas and views towards our
politics and government. With attention to, political socialization is mainly shaped during our childhood,
people continue to shape their political views throughout their lives. Being that family is the most political
influence through our lives we always look to them when we are confused or questioned amongst politics.

During the late 19th century, the industrial leaders were either characterized as robber barons or industrial
statesmen . The extent of this classification comes with the power of how they use their leadership to
better improve the economy of the United States. Although both groups impacted the United States
industrial economy, robber barons had the advantage because they applied their technique to innovate
American history. Robber Barons gave lower wages, built monopolies, provided poor working conditions

Controversial Views In Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights
Controversial Viewpoints Presented in Wuthering Heights
The plot and ongoing legacy of Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights leaves readers with both the feeling of
astonishment and discomfort. Unlike most romantic stories of the 19th century, Wuthering Heights
employs the role of a disturbing novel that advertises itself as a love story. It portrays dark, gothic, and
often times morbid views of love and compassion. The social s dominance emerges in too much pain and
violence to become a comfort zone, the psychic s persistence ensures unquiet slumbers after all the pain
inflicted. Wuthering Heights, in other words, allows its aesthetics to complicate ideological preference:

...she cannot do otherwise than as she does, she must marry... because there is no one else for her to marry
and a lady must marry. (Gilbert 97) During this time period, being a woman means you are powerless, and
your only option in life is to marry. To gain power, women would often marry a man of a high social or
financial status. Marrying Heathcliff, a lowly servant, would only decrease Catherine s own status. This
social constraint explains why Catherine betrayed her own heart. (Bronte, 37) As a result of this betrayal,
a heartbroken Heathcliff begins to formulate a plot for revenge. For seventeen years Heathcliff wreaks his
vengeance on Hindley, Edgar, and Isabella and on their children Hareton, young Cathy, and Linton. The
account of the trip is not pretty. Even in the love scenes before the elder Cathy s death there is a savage
passion which strikes terror to the heart of the beholder, unlike any other scenes in the course of English
fiction. (Watson 36) The love between Heathcliff and Catherine takes a swift and unpleasant turn as both
parties actively try to sabotage each other. It is ironic that a social convention, such as marriage, that is
meant to foster love and strengthen familial relationships, has actually destroyed a genuine love and a
family connection. Most readers find this moral conflict, which was triggered by the social and financial
expectations created through marriage during the time period, to be highly unsettling, regardless of their

Essay on Fear and Loathing on The Campaign Trail
Fear and Loathing On The Campaign Trail 72 was a book about a writer for the Rolling Stone and his
coverage of the presidential elections in 1972. These elections were between the incumbent Republican,
President Richard Nixon and the Senator from South Dakota, George McGovern. The election of 1972
saw McGovern come out of the democratic National Convention over Senators Muskie and Humphrey but
only to lose to the incumbent president Richard Nixon.
Hunter S. Thompson writes about the Election of 1972 from December 1971, before any primaries, to

In the October chapter, he calls the president a, drooling red eyed beast with the legs of a man and the
head of a giant hyena... heading toward Watergate. He then comes back after this metaphor to say,
Ah...nightmares, nightmares. But I was only kidding. The president would never act tat weird. At least not
during football season. In these passages he uses a metaphor to show the president in a very negative light
and to stress on Nixon s negative connection with Watergate. His next statement is a sarcastic phrase
saying the president would never act this way during football season. This sarcastic comment shows
President Nixon as a savage beast whose only real knowledge is in football. This style of writing is what
made Hunter Thompson, Gonzo Journalism, and this book very famous.
The book is a very opinionated story of the election of 1972. It follows all the major political events
leading up to elections like the primaries and the caucuses. The chapters are all split up in months and
chronicle the major events and outcomes of the landmark events during each month. Along the way he
includes many interviews that he took and many conversations between many of the people involved in
the election. The book is a great insight to politics and gives a non sugarcoated, non media altered view of
politics. It talks about the griminess and political tactics used by the political parties and the candidates

Mass production is a system of manufacturing in which machines rapidly product large amounts of a product. • 4. Essay on The Commander To what extent is the Commander presented as both villain and a figure of sympathy? The commander can be seen as a man torn between two worlds, he was one of the founders of Gilead yet still enjoys and yearns for the pleasures of the old society he managed to break. The commander is cool and collected on the surface but underneath he is bitter and corrupted for the world he has managed to create. The commander secretly longs for the world to be as it once was and this is why he savours his time with Offred because she may remind him of life before Gilead. It is also ironic how both characters feel under the surface an anger and repression of Gilead and they both want to break free. However on the surface when they play scrabble with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This could represent the villainous side to him, as his power and authority create a shield, which hides his true self. This means Offred and the reader are not completely sure of who he is and his wants. Throughout this chapter the theme of having or gaining more power is very evident. The fact that the commander does have so much power and Offred has so little makes him more villainous. This is because we can evidently see how Offred could be so easily manipulated by this very powerful man. However we see a more villainous side to The Commander when he asks Offred to play scrabble with him. He manipulates Offred into having almost a false relationship with him because this is non existent with his wife, Serena Joy. The relationship between the commander and Serena Joy is very numb, cold and formal. They are very alike in character and so they control each other. Their relationship is somewhat business like and lifeless. In one chapter Serena Joy says to Offred He s my Husband till death do us part and this sentence feels almost forced. As the reader we feel she says this because of the last handmaid and because of the jealousy she feels towards Offred. She wants to take it away before she can even have it. This relationship with Serena Joy puts things out of balance and Offred and in a way wants to go back to normality. He is unhappy about the situation in Gilead and wants to forget about the present and live in the past. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Characteristics Of Clarissa Dalloway Clarissa Dalloway A Modernist Conceived Character Modernism in European literature developed highly between the 1900 and 1920 although its beginning is often associated with Virginia Woolf s statement that human nature went through a fundamental change on or about December 1910. Modernism is generally characterized by a brake with the traditional writing, a desire for experimental literary form and a way of expressing the new sensibilities of their time (Childs, 2008: 4). Italian Influence On The Renaissance When contemplating on the Renaissance and its place in history, immediately reflections of Leonardo da Vinci s Mona Lisa, Michelangelo s David, sculptures of human anatomy, philosophical treatises on the human condition, and among others populate the mind, but how did this output of great work manage to seemingly appear almost simultaneously? Firstly, the Renaissance a French word literally meaning rebirth was an age of cultural enrichment and achievement where the arts, sciences, and philosophy flourished largely due to the revival and revisitation of ancient Greek and roman texts. Naturalism is often confused with realism , a style of art that focuses on realities and truth, rather than the ideals and aesthetics. The difference between Realism and Naturalism is that realism tends to be preoccupied with the content of the art rather than technique or methodology. Szypszak (2011) further states that the APA addressed the fundamental aspects of agency rulemaking and adjudication. APA authorizes two basic forms of administrative action: rulemaking and adjudication. Rulemaking is a quasi legislative function that sets standards for future application (Ferguson, 2006). Adjudication is the administrative equivalent of a judicial trial. Under adjudication, individual cases are heard by law judges within agencies and a body of rules is developed (Kettl, 2015). Adjudication differs from rulemaking in that it applies only to a specific, limited number of parties involved in an individual case before the agency (Vago, 2015). The Administrative Procedure Act (APA) separates adjudication from rulemaking by stating that adjudication is an agency process for the formulation of an order and an order is a final disposition in a matter other than rulemaking. There is formal and informal adjudication. Formal adjudication involves some kind of hearing, whereas informal adjudication takes place in settings that are non confrontational and often not even face to face and is undertaken by non hearing deciders (Cane, 2009). Adjudications can take many forms, but generally can be grouped into law enforcement adjudications (such as those conducted by the Federal Trade Commission) benefits adjudications (such as those conducted by the Social Security Administration) and licensing and permit adjudications (such as those conducted by the Environmental Protection Agency) (Forte and Spalding, ... • 17. The Economic And Social Changes During The 1960s Under The... Life in America began to undergo great economic and social changes during the 1980s under the Reagan Administration. During this period of time, stagflation began to distress the US economy, leaving millions of Americans to fall victim to homelessness and poverty. The unemployment rate had reached its highest peak since the Great Depression, creating a major crisis for low income families and other individuals concerning living conditions. The introduction of Reaganism into society primarily focused on reducing the growth of government spending through the modulation of federal income tax and reduction of government regulation to diminish inflation. Despite all attempts for economic recovery, the US struggled to bounce back from the 1970s recession and in time led to the significant rise in urban poverty. Uniquely, an American film director from the 1980s by the name of John Carpenter produced a science fiction film, They Live, that served as a powerful and eye opening depiction of his own personal views of Reaganism (Reaganomics). He essentially depicts our world to be controlled by powerful elites who have created a repressive society that we are unwilling brought to live and build in. He also clarifies how the majority of Americans during the 1980s were focused primarily on materialism and how an individual s success was measured by the amount of money they possessed. Psychology And Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy This week as I begun to read the theories that include Individual Psychology, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), and Cognitive Behavior Therapy I found that choosing which theory that I identified the most with is getting harder and harder. These theories are so similar. This led me to use a process of elimination which still left me with two Individual Psychology and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy. Individual Psychology was created by Alfred Adler who was coddled as a child until another child was born which led to his interest in birth order. Adler worked with Sigmund Freud and often disagreed with his thought that the motivation of man were solely motivated by sex and aggression. Adler believe that man was motivated by social influence and striving for superiority. This indifference is what led to the foundation of Individual Psychology. Adler believed that people were responsible, creative, connected, social individuals who actions work toward their goals (Henderson Thompson, 2012, Pg. 345). He believed that all individuals are born helpless and remain that way for a long period of time causing them to develop inferiority. Inferiority maybe caused by older and more powerful siblings, or being neglected, rejected, or over pampered by their parents. • 22. The Industrial Revolution Of The Green Revolution Introduction To date, historical evidence, from the industrial revolution to the green revolution, show that agriculture growth has long been the engine of development. This idea has long helped promoting the capitalist agriculture transition as the only path to rise resident s income (Zhang, et al., 2015) in order to get people out of poverty. Accordingly, many started celebrating the global rise in incomes as a success of those policies while the lagging in Africa showed the undermined inequalities and marginalisation of the most vulnerable categories. Yet, the specificity in Africa is, today, getting more and more attention as it shows not only the persistence of poverty but a high concentration in rural areas. Accordingly, the starting point of this paper is that agriculture growth is definitely necessary but the management of the transition process and the understanding of the past and the initial interconnected conditions lead to different path and development patterns beyond the polarized debate between traditional as pro poor and the advanced as urban bias. To do so, firstly a study of the different global patterns of poverty, where it is concentrated, who are the poor and the resulting social relations is needed. Afterwards, the concept of initial conditions will be explored with a focus on the role of the initial technical investment in shaping the urban bias development patterns. Finally, the two previous conditions will be explored with a political economic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rock and Roll became simply Rock , connoting its new heaviness (seriousness) (Cary, pg 31) The oncoming decade allowed for new developments within rock music and as a result, soared in popularity. The British invasion, a phrase coined by Walter Cronkite while reporting the arrival of the Beatles in the USA,and American folk singers were the causes of the rapid changes in Rock music. The United states has always met with great success in exporting their own popular music to Europe. The American people want to hurt him the way he and his followers hurt their fellow Americans, their family. • 26. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy ( Cbt ) For Obsessive... Strengths and Weaknesses in Aetiology and Treatment of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) By using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) individuals are able to be diagnosed and treated for many anxiety disorders, one of which is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). OCD is an anxiety disorder associated with invasive thoughts, impulses and urges which can cause severe anxiety for an individual. These obsessive thoughts can then cause the individual to act compulsively to prevent the stress and anxiety that is occuring (American Psychological Association, 2013). According to CBT, OCD is caused by distorted cognitions and the way different thoughts are being interpreted (Whittal, Thordarson McLean, 2005). Treatment for OCD includes various CBT techniques including Psychoeducation, creating symptom hierarchies and then combining it with the behavioural technique of Exposure Response Prevention (ERP). Both the aetiology and the treatment of the disorder have strengths and weaknesses. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM V) explains the criteria for OCD. OCD is considered to be an anxiety disorder in the DSM V. Obsessions are defined as experiencing recurrent and persistent thoughts, impulses and urges, and can be invasive and unasked for which then cause noticeable distress and anxiety for the individual. The individual will try to ignore the unwanted thoughts and urges or they may try to neutralise them via ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Theseus A Midsummer Night s Dream Despite the numerous physical contrasts between the forest and Athens in William Shakespeare s A Midsummer Night s Dream, the two settings symbolically are very similar. Coupling the two locations allows the play to question the idea of actuality versus dreams. Throughout the play, Shakespeare juxtaposes Theseus Court with nature to parallel reality and fantasy, and resolve the obvious differences between the two in order to illustrate that elements of reality are present in fantasy. The two settings, at first glance, are strikingly divergent. Athens represents reason and wisdom, which is representative of reality. It is named after the Greek God Athena, the goddess of wisdom. By setting Theseus court in Athens, Shakespeare implies the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite these clashing characteristics, there are countless similarities between the events that take place in each local. One connection between the two can be seen through Hippolyta and Titania. Although it is evident that Hippolyta is a victim of misogyny, Titania s experience with patriarchy is less evident. Both Oberon and Theseus earn love from their partners by conquering them in oe sense or another. Theseus, ...wooed [Hippolyta] with [his] sword, and won [her] love by doing [her] injuries, whereas Oberon manipulates Titania with a spell (Shakespeare 1.1 17 18). In the end, both men obtain what they desire, whether it be a child or marriage, and the women must abide their decision. These two characters are often double cast to represent this relationship. By making this choice, the director and cast heighten a pre existing (if subtle) parallel between the two characters and their positions and thus representing the appearance of reality, even in dreams (Colborn 77). The same is true of the opposite because, Hippolyta, by nature, is representative of the exotic and unknown (Colborn 79). She is not a true Athenian and therefore has qualities that defy those set for her in reality. This is similar to how even though the reality of misogyny in the forest is very apparent, she is still able to possess tremendous power as the Fairy Queen. Hippolyta s Amazonian culture, ...differ from the Renaissance ideals of womanhood in their complete uninterest in an erotic appeal governed by male desire (Pastor Sousa 12). This helps define her as an aspect of the unpredictableness of dreams. • 28. Importance Of Being Earnest The Importance of Being Ernest is a comedic play written by Oscar Wilde. It was set and written during the Victorian Era, and is a parody of the Victorian culture. In the play, there are many different contrasting characters, including the main character Jack, and Algernon, who we find is his brother later in the play. Algernon is a very unserious person, who is also quite irresponsible, and just wants things in life to be fun. We see this a few times throughout the play. For example, when there has been a big argument between Jack and Algernon and their fiancés, he eats muffins, and says, when asked about it Well, I can t eat muffins in an agitated manner. I want to tell you all of the rules. From this, we know that he thinks it s a fine thing to do, and we know that he himself is also quite deceitful in that way. Also, it shows us that he s happy to find out that Jack does the same as him, and him not finding it strange means that he thinks it s quite a common thing to be done. Hitler ordered the murders of conspicuous Conservative anti Nazis such as Kurt Von Schleicher and Gustav Ritter von Kahr, Left wing Nazis such as Gregor Strasser and many members of the SA including its leader Ernst Rohm. It could be claimed that the murders were significant as they ended a possible takeover by the SA, deterred and intimidated Conservative critics while gaining their support, saw the rise of the SS, introduced terror and dictatorship into mainstream life and reassured the elites and the army. • 33. Controversial Views In Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights Controversial Viewpoints Presented in Wuthering Heights The plot and ongoing legacy of Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights leaves readers with both the feeling of astonishment and discomfort. Unlike most romantic stories of the 19th century, Wuthering Heights employs the role of a disturbing novel that advertises itself as a love story. It portrays dark, gothic, and often times morbid views of love and compassion. The social s dominance emerges in too much pain and violence to become a comfort zone, the psychic s persistence ensures unquiet slumbers after all the pain inflicted. (Gilbert 97) During this time period, being a woman means you are powerless, and your only option in life is to marry. To gain power, women would often marry a man of a high social or financial status. Marrying Heathcliff, a lowly servant, would only decrease Catherine s own status. This social constraint explains why Catherine betrayed her own heart. (Bronte, 37) As a result of this betrayal, a heartbroken Heathcliff begins to formulate a plot for revenge. For seventeen years Heathcliff wreaks his vengeance on Hindley, Edgar, and Isabella and on their children Hareton, young Cathy, and Linton. The account of the trip is not pretty. Even in the love scenes before the elder Cathy s death there is a savage passion which strikes terror to the heart of the beholder, unlike any other scenes in the course of English fiction. (Watson 36) The love between Heathcliff and Catherine takes a swift and unpleasant turn as both parties actively try to sabotage each other. It is ironic that a social convention, such as marriage, that is meant to foster love and strengthen familial relationships, has actually destroyed a genuine love and a family connection. Most readers find this moral conflict, which was triggered by the social and financial expectations created through marriage during the time period, to be highly unsettling, regardless of their viewpoint on the ... Essay on Fear and Loathing on The Campaign Trail Fear and Loathing On The Campaign Trail 72 was a book about a writer for the Rolling Stone and his coverage of the presidential elections in 1972. These elections were between the incumbent Republican, President Richard Nixon and the Senator from South Dakota, George McGovern. The election of 1972 saw McGovern come out of the democratic National Convention over Senators Muskie and Humphrey but only to lose to the incumbent president Richard Nixon. Hunter S. In these passages he uses a metaphor to show the president in a very negative light and to stress on Nixon s negative connection with Watergate. His next statement is a sarcastic phrase saying the president would never act this way during football season. This sarcastic comment shows President Nixon as a savage beast whose only real knowledge is in football. This style of writing is what made Hunter Thompson, Gonzo Journalism, and this book very famous. The book is a very opinionated story of the election of 1972. It follows all the major political events leading up to elections like the primaries and the caucuses. The chapters are all split up in months and chronicle the major events and outcomes of the landmark events during each month. Along the way he includes many interviews that he took and many conversations between many of the people involved in the election.
