Analysis Of Gorman Beauchamp s Article, Technology
In Gorman Beauchamp s article, Technology in the Dystopian Novel, he writes: collectivism and
technology, that is, are mutually exclusive (56). Collectivism is defined as: the practice or
principle of giving a group priority over each individual in it. This idea is incredibly relevant in
today s society. Our world, because of modern technology, has become incredibly individualistic.
Cell phones, personal computers, tablets, and other personal technological devices have all been
created with the intent to improve communication and connecting individuals in a much easier
fashion. Devices are customized to the individual making it more in sync with the individual. While
these devices have contributed overall in creating a more globalized world, individual cultures,
especially in the United States, no longer have the group priority Beauchamp was referring to. This
becomes extremely apparent in the youth of today s societies. Distractions from cell phones
continually disrupt the cohesion in the classroom, playground, and in the homes. Because of the
frequency of use on these personal devices, interpersonal communication is greatly hindered.
Interpersonal skills are important for a culture to thrive and to be successful. It is unknown what
kind of effects technology will have in the long run towards face to face communications and
interpersonal relationships. The sciencefiction book series, Divergent, has an interesting solution for
what happens when societies let technology

Date performed January 18, 2015
Introduction/ Abstract:
Simple harmonic motion is the study of oscillation. An object undergoes oscillation when it
experiences a restoring force which restores this object to equilibrium positon. The Simple
harmonic oscillation occurs when the net force on an object along the direction of motion is
proportional to the object s displacement and in the opposite direction by this equation F = kx. In
addition, an object whose position time graph makes a sine or cosine function is in simple
harmonic motion. This type of relation is called Hooke s law. The purpose of this experiment is to
prove Hooke s law and study Simple harmonic motion and to show that this equation T = 2 is valid
during Simple harmonic motion.
Theory:
The relevant theoretical concepts and equations used in this experiment are:
T = 2

Analysis Of Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
At the ripe age of 12, I received my first shiny new hockey stick, and before the blade touched the
ice, I named her Lucy. A few years later, my friend was fortunate enough to inherit her family s
beat up station wagon, and we all collectively agreed to call him Wilfred. For many, this idea of
gendering something new and beautiful as female is second nature to us. Similar to my 12 year
old self s new hockey stick, we often gendernature as feminine, because of its irrefutable beauty
and power. While Joseph Conrads Heart of Darkness is set in a patriarchal society, the jungle that is
recognized to have female qualities, enforces the main commanding force over the men in the
Congo. Conrad s two contrasting representations of women are shown through the influential
Congolese woman, who is a personification of the jungle, and the Intended, who represents the
Western women who are oblivious to the true horrors in modern day society.
As we near the end of the novel, we meet a striking Congolese woman that is described as the
jungle s tenebrous and passionate soul (pg 168). During the first encounter with the wild woman,
Marlot describes her glare at the crew as like the wilderness itself, with an air of brooding over an
inscrutable purpose. (168) This is just one of the many times that the Congolese woman is
compared to, or described as, nature. Through this comparison, the Congolese woman embodies
many of the powerful and intriguing qualities that the jungle possesses.

Imbalance In Lord Of The Flies Analysis
Imbalance is at the center of mayhem
As the French philosopher Baron de Montesquieu believed, a system of checks and balances of
power are necessary to have a society. William Golding had written the Lord of the Flies, a book
about a group of young boys stranded on a island needing to find ways of survival. His book
portrays how Montesquieu s idea of checks and balances are needed to make an ideal
community. On the island, Jack and Ralph were the two boys that seemed most fit to be leaders
among these stranded boys and at first the island was a safe place for living, until Jack gains more
and more control where the levels of authority are not equal. With Jack having most of the control,
there is an absence of balance and this absence of balance between powers on the island causes
the boys turn to savagery and chaos. Golding writes of the boys failing to have a mindset of
surviving together by living their life on the island with an imbalance of power to govern
themselves and by having this imbalance, the boys kill each other and destroy the island to rise in
dominance, which is what Montesquieu predicted would happen if there was no checks of power
and balance between sides.
In the Lord of the Flies, Golding shows how the boys on the island fail to govern themselves since
Jack s authority grows too fast and Ralph can t limit him. Golding s book agrees with how
Montesquieu believed having three branches of leadership ideally keeps the governmental system
balanced. There are

New Kitten Research Paper
A new kitten can be a wonderful addition to your family, but it is an unfortunate fact that many
people have never owned a kitten before. This can cause them to be unsure of what is needed to
provide for these animals. By understanding the benefits of these tips, you can help ensure that your
kitten grows into a well adjusted adult cat.
Provide Your Kitten With A Hiding Place When Being Exposed To New Things
As your kitten grows, you will have to expose them to a variety of frightening objects. Often, the
vacuum cleaner, hair dryer or any other loud appliances can ca]use your kitten s stress levels to
spike. Luckily, you can help mitigate this problem by always have a safe hiding spot for your
kitten when you will be using these items.

The Great Gig In The Sky
The Great Gig in the Sky is a metaphor for death. As one grows older there are fears of dying, but
this song sings a tune of the character not frightened of dying (Floyd, The Great Gig in the Sky).
The character has lived his unfulfilled life of stress, anxiety, and the passing of time, that now
dying seems pleasant. Talking with elders, some are scared of dying because they wonder if
they did have an unfulfilled life, but this character seems to accept it, and because of that he or
she has no reason to be afraid, because they were well aware they let life pass by. Side B of The
Dark Side of the Moon concentrates on the roots that cause madness, or a mediocre life. The most

Reticulitermes termites can be found in most southeastern regions because of the warm and
humid conditions. The termites in this experiment are housed inside a petri dish that can be
described as pale insects three to twenty millimeters long in body length, and can also be
commonly known as white ants . Termites live in organized colonies and are defined by divisions

Myocardial Ischemia
In order for the heart to keep functioning normally, it needs a constant blood supply carrying
Oxygen and nutrients to fit the demands of the working myocardial cell. When the blood supply
coming from the coronaries to the myocardium cannot fit those demands, a condition called
Myocardial Ischemia takes place. If that imbalance between supply and demand persists, a certain
cascade of cellular, inflammatory and biochemical events lead to the irreversible death of
myocardial cells, resulting in a Myocardial Infarct (MI).
The spectrum of myocardial injury not only depends on the intensity of the impaired perfusion, but
also and more importantly on the duration of that assault. It also depends on the metabolic demand
at the time of the event. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This mechanism allows significant architectural changes to the composition, shape and contractile
function of the myocardium, especially in the left ventricle, which is the major contributor to the
contractile function of the heart. Then remodeling takes place in which the left ventricles takes a
more spherical shape and overall dilation.
In most occasions, a paradoxical effect then takes place in which there is further ischemic cellular
injury to the damaged myocardium as restoration of blood flow begins, triggered by a complex
interaction between oxygen free radicals and intracellular calcium. There is however, a protective
mechanism against this reperfusion injury lead by an endothelium derived relaxing factor called
Nitric Oxide. It works by inactivating oxygen free radicals, therefore, ameliorating this process of
reperfusion injury.
Stunned myocardium is a condition of transient left ventricular dysfunction following an ischemic
event to the myocardium. It occurs if coronary blood flow was impaired for a brief period of time
(5 to 15 minutes). Usually, stunned myocardium persists for hours or days following the re
establishment of coronary blood

Phoenix Jackson Stereotypes
Frequently, old people are described as withered, useless, and reliant on others. Phoenix Jackson
from Eudora Welty s A Worn Path is not a representation of this stereotype. Throughout the story,
Phoenix undergoes a trek to retrieve her grave and helplessly ill grandson some medicine, facing
adversities that would not be met by most people today, let alone elderly people. Some of the
actions Phoenix undertakes could be described as unethical, or very irrational; however, a closer
look would show that she was motivated by her compassion for her grandson, her physical and
mental strength, and her intense perseverance. Grandparents always show deep affection for their
grandchildren and Phoenix Jackson is definitely no exception. Throughout her journey, Phoenix is

nickel since it is Christmas time. Despite her poor lifestyle as indicated by her shoddy clothes,
Phoenix tells the nurse that she is going to go and buy her grandson a toy windmill. This response
exhibits how Phoenix ignores the rude manners that others show her, focusing more on caring for
her grandson. One stereotype that Phoenix cannot escape is memory loss, though her love for her
grandson is forever in her heart. Phoenix Jackson undertakes a tremendously long journey from
her home in the woods to the city of Natchez. But upon arriving at her destination, Phoenix forgets
completely about her reasons for coming such a long way and facing dangers. It is only when the
nurse questions Pheonix about her grandson s health does she remember her cause for coming to

Summary of The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara Essay examples
The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara The Lesson, by Toni Cade Bambara, portrays a group of
children living in the slums of New York City around 1972. They seem to be content living in
poverty in some very unsanitary conditions. One character, Miss Moore, the children s self
appointed mentor, takes it upon herself to further their education during the summer months. She
feels this is her civic duty because she is educated. She used F.A.O. Schwarz, a very expensive
toystore, to teach them a lesson and inspire them to strive for success and attempt to better
themselves and their situations. At the beginning of the story, the author gives us the feeling that a

Discussion Questions On Marcel Duchamp s Urinal Painting
Kimberly Greene Professor Whiting HUMN 2002 Art March 11, 2017 Art Assessment II Task
1: Artist: Marcel Duchamp Title: Fountain Signed: R. Mutt Year: 1917 Task 2: Do you think this
is art? Is it art or not, why? Yes, I believe that Marcel Duchamp s urinal painting is considered art
because it served as some type of meaning or purpose to him. He was inspired in some way to
paint this type of artwork/painting. One can interpret it in more ways than one. Some may not even
understand it, but somehow Duchamp did and that is all that matters. So, therefore, this is what led
to him painting such a feature and that is why I would consider it as a piece of art. Task 3: Find

His famous painting, titled Fountain, is viewed as one of Duchamp s most famous works and is
widely seen as an icon of 20th century art. (Tate). Therefore, I believe if it changed how people
viewed Conceptual art and artwork throughout that era/time period, then it is considered as such
a famous piece of artwork. While some may not understand the point of Duchamp s painting of
the urinal, others find much needed purpose to it. If it outlined and changed such an era/time
period of art, then I would say Duchamp set a new limit on what is to be or not to be considered
art. I believe art is what comes from the inside the inner soul and what draws through because
what lies within you, serves as a meaning to not only you, but to others as well. While, some
people look at a piece of art or artwork and somehow find no meaning to it, and think, Oh, I could
have done that by just dabbing or throwing a little paint on the canvas, others find meanings to
these pieces of artwork. To me, I believe that all artwork has a meaning and serves a purpose to
the artist and/or painter. While we may not understand all of the concepts highlighted in a
painting, such as this one, or in any such artwork, I believe that we can still get something out of
it, as a whole. By saying this, I believe that this is exactly what Duchamp did and believed, that
you couldn t define art, and that is why I consider Duchamp s famous piece, Fountain, which
drastically changed the views/concepts of Conceptual art period/era, a piece of

Howl s character is one that alternates between the main character, the hero, soulless character,
and the hopeless protagonist. He takes on a devilish form and is perceived as evil incarnate, but
at the same time, Miyazaki maintains howl s character as one who is a victim of his own
mistakes. Another character, the young boy, disguises himself as an old healer. Although he is
just a boy, he takes on the role of a guardian of the castle, a wizard apprentice, and even a healer.
The witch of the waste is at first given the role of a villain but moves on to take on that of an old
crippled woman. She is portrayed as a heartless witch whose greed led her a path of darkness, but
as her character develops, she too was a revealed to be a warm, amicable old woman. This is one
way Miyazaki keeps the movie interesting and unpredictable with remarkable character
development. The character development through out the story helps create an unpredictable movie

Ed is the only person in the novel we can admire. Discuss.
The Messenger shows that by behaving in an altruistic way, our admiration towards a person
grows. Throughout the novel many different altruistic acts have been achieved by the
protagonist, Ed Kennedy. By the end of the book we have developed a level of respect and
admiration for him as he managed to transform himself and others around him. Markus Zusak was
sending Ed messages to get him to behave in that manner but he was also sending a message to the
reader to also start behaving that way. All these can relate back to the altruistic tasks that have been

Protestant Reformation Research Paper
Reformation
In the first half of the sixteenth century Western Europe experienced a wide range of social, artistic,
political changes as the result of a conflict within the Catholic church. This conflict is called the
Protestant Reformation, and the Catholic response to it is called the Counter Reformation.
The Reformation began when Martin Luther posted his Ninety Five theses against the indulgences
of the Church. These indulgences included if you did a good dead, this reduced the amount of
punishment which you deserved for your bad deeds, and which God would make you suffer after
your death before letting you into Heaven. Giving money to the Church was considered a good

On his way home he disappeared. What had started as a furious attempt to reform the church
overnight turned into a project of building a new church independent of the Catholic Church.
While Germany struggled under the political and religious consequences of Luther s reform
movement, the movement itself quickly spilled out of the German borders into neighboring
Switzerland. At the time, Switzerland was not a single country but a confederacy of thirteen city
states called cantons. When Luther s ideas began to pour over the border, several of the cantons
broke from the Catholic church and became Protestant while other cantons remained firmly
Catholic. Of the cantons that adopted Luther s new movement, the most important and powerful
was the city state of Zurich under the leadership of Ulrich Zwingli. He was popular in Zurich for
his opposition to Swiss mercenary service in foreign wars and his attacks on indulgences; he was,
as significant a player in the critique of indulgences as Luther himself.
Zwingli rose through the ranks of the Catholic Church until he was appointed People s Priest in
1519, the most powerful ecclesiastical position in the city. In 1523, the city officially adopted
Zwingli s central ecclesiastical reforms and became the first Protestant state outside of Germany.
From there the Protestant revolution would sweep across the map of Switzerland. Zwingli s

The number of trips taken by Britons overseas has declined by 12.6 million, from 69.4 million to
56.8 million between 2007 and 2011, according to the research by Travelodge. This means that
5.9 million holidays and trips have come out of the market altogether when the number of
domestic holidays and trips are factored in. This is shy of the government s stated ambition for
domestic trips to replace the number of missing overseas trips, the report says. However, the
analysis shows that staycation breaks were up by 5.6% as the recession proved that holidays are an
essential rather than a luxury. UK city breaks account for 23% of domestic tourism but seaside
towns are in decline by 5%. Total tourism revenue was up 12.6% to ВЈ40 billion between 2007
2011 against the general economy up 8%. Employment numbers in tourism have bucked the wider
trend, thanks to strong growth in 2011 when 120,000 new jobs were created. The UK s appeal as a
tourist destination endured during the double dip, with overall visitor numbers up by 3.1% to 157.4
million, the report shows. Staycations form the backbone of the tourism economy, with domestic
trips and holidays increasing by 5.6% to 126.6 million.
Social Factors

mixed reviews from that site and other sites such as tripadvisor. The use of social media can help

Liz Murray Thesis
Reaching the Top
Last year, there were 1,926 homeless students enrolled in public school,.. (Goldberg N.P.). In the
United States, many homeless children skip school and lose hope about improving their life.
One of those children decided to change their life and that person was called Liz Murray. Liz
Murray and her older sister, Lisa, were children of two drug addicts. Her parents, who would
neglect her and Lisa, caused Liz to get head lice and for Liz and Lisa to go days without some
proper food. Her parents spent any penny they had on drugs. They would go as far as stealing
birthday money from Liz. Liz and Lisa s mother was diagnosed as HIV positive. With her mom

For insistence, according to reporter Susan Donaldson James, Liz Murray is helping youth
struggling with homelessness at New York s Covenant House, a nonprofit that provides shelter
and support services for the city s youth population. ( James N.P.) This demonstrates that Liz is
going to a covenant house in New York and helping the homeless youth build themselves a better
life. This illustrates that Liz Murray is putting the effort to help kids struggling through
homelessness. Thus, according to reporter Susan James, at the age of 19, Liz was motivating
others on speaking tours and by 22, she was conducting workshops to guide others struggling with
life s curveballs. ( James N.P.). This indicates that Liz is going around to different places and
inspiring them to change their lives. As explain above Liz is a going around and helping people to
guide their struggling life into the right direction.Another example, is according to reporter Julia
Gabriela, Liz mentors youth at the Covenant House in New York City. She urges students to
express their gratitude and to not treat someone like they re broken. (Gabriela N.P.). This
demonstrates that she is not only helping other people who went through the same situation as her
succeed in life but she teaching them how to do the same and be kind to others. This shows that Liz

The World Of Doublespeak Analysis
What is doublespeak? Is it a useful and the language should be using? Possibly people will come
up with different opinions and suggestions of doublespeak. Some people will say that
doublespeak is bad and people should avoid using it; for example, in Lutz s essay, The World of
Doublespeak, Lutz wrote about the negative aspects of doublespeak. He defines doublespeak as,
language that pretends to communicate but really doesn t (Lutz/P.347). In some case he is right
as doublespeak can make things sinful, virtuous; something terrible, be wonderful, and so on.
However, doublespeak is a powerful communication skill; People should be familiar with it and be
able to use it. It would be as dangerous as Lutz mentions in his article when people used... Show

His main argument on doublespeak is that the doublespeak misleads the audience. This is pretty
much true. The human s recognition can be easily changed by the uses of language that their
information comes from. For example, once the news reporter called a terrorist, the freedom
fighters, most of the audiences who feel less fear and anxiety. Although, what the terrorist are really
are killing people and forcing innocent people to group suicide with them, when their title change
some of the audiences will easily justify the terrorists behaviors. There s another example of
doublespeak s dishonesty; when a person with money and authority, for example, the Prime
Minister, force a regular citizen by treated them. It would sound very bad when a people says that
the Prime Minister threated a citizen, but it will sound nothing if people says that the Prime
Minister made a deal with the regular citizen, and in most case it this really happened the
journalist would use doublespeak and change threat to deal or some positive words. Due to the
way, doublespeak can change the reality of something it is like political tools that lead to
dishonesty and trust issues, but that s also the reason why people should learn double

How Did Mozart Change The World
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was a prolific European Composer during the 18th century where he

Kapellmeister at the court of the Archbishop of Salzburg. His mother was Maria Anna Pertl. By the
time Mozart was around four his father gave his sister musiclessons, but without anyone knowing
Mozart would absorb what they were talking about, and he started to awaken his gift. He started
memorizing and playing songs just by hearing them and reciting them after. Mozart was four

In 2004, Szabo and Griffiths conducted a study on the importance of exercise for sport science
students compared to general exercisers. They found that exercise addiction was twice as high at
6.9% than the rest of the population at 3.6%. Based on this data, it was concluded that exercise
students were simply committed to their sports studies both personally and professionally (Szabo
Griffiths, 2004, p. 27).
Among athletes, exercise addiction was found in 52% of triathletes with 26% being male runners
and 25% female runners (Berczik et al., 2012). Besides these sports, Krivoschekov and Lushnikov
(2011) found addiction to exercise in those practicing sports such as martial arts, weightlifting,
athletics, and bodybuilding. Addiction was also observed in people performing exercises for health.
Individuals that did exercise purely for health were motivated by the rewards of weight regulations
and good health (Lichtenstein, Larsen, Christiansen, StГёving, Bredahl, 2014).
Symptoms
Licensed clinical professionals can assess the distinctiveness of exercise addiction by using
assessment tools and clinically significant psychological indicators. Assessments tools such as the

Cradley And Greg Heffley Comparison
Have you ever read a book? Well, most people would answer yes to that question and for me it
would definitely be a yes. Unlike most teens my age, I absolutely, positively love to read. But
have you ever been reading a book and thought you a had a similarity or two with the character?
Most people would also answer yes to this question also, Including me. I have found myself to be
like many characters, but none like Greg Heffley. Greg and I have many similarities we were born
on the same day, we live in the same state, and we even have the same middle name James.
Although those similarities are quite interesting, I have dug deeper into this character, not just
looking at the outer earthly appearance but I have considered how he thinks, his personality,
and even his actions. This is where the real similarities are in the heart and we are so similar it s
a little bit scary. Greg is always loyal never leaving anyone not even his annoying friend rowley.
Greg is always brave and never afraid to try something new. Greg is also defiant and even though it
may get us in troublesometimes there is always good in the bad.
To begin with, Greg Heffley is the most loyal friend ever imaginable, being a strong friend through
the thick and thin, through the ups and downs, no matter what Greg Heffley is always there when
you need him. For this reason Greg and I are very much alike, always being a dependable,
trustworthy, and most important, loyal no matter what you are going through

Folkway Norms In Our Culture
Norms are constantly changing and different in every culture. Norms are usually unnoticed in
our society. There are folkways and mores norms. Folkway norms specify proper behaviors and
are less violent and just rude which are stated was weak . Mores norms are stronger norms which
violates more demands. We re taught wrongs and rights while we re kids like sneezing into your

Private capital investments have slowed, Russia s market environment is weakened by the
presence of a continued state run model, and a significant lever within the Russian economy
remains oil (Kudrin Gurvich, 2015, p.54). In 2015, Russia was a key exporter of oil to both
Europe and Asia, and nearly 50% of the country s revenue comes from oil and gas. That type of

The Omnivore s Dilemma By Michael Pollan
The Omnivore s Dilemma Summary The main idea of The Omnivore s Dilemma, by Michael
Pollan, is to make the reader aware of where his food comes from, and what goes into his food.
Pollan does this by breaking the book into four different types of meals: the industrial and
processed meal consisting of foodproduced in factories or grown on large scale farms, the organic
meal created on industrial farms, the grass fed meal made of meat and produce created on
mindful and smaller farms, and finally the meal containing food gathered, hunted, or grown by
the person who will consume it. Pollan starts by explaining the origin of corn in Mexico and
southwestern North America. He visited George Naylor, an industrial corn farmer living in Iowa,
at his farm to learn about the dominating industry. Since corn is one of the cheapest sources of
calories, and is so abundant, scientists have modified it into just about every different form they
can to make more use out of it. Corn is now used to feed cattle, which are physically designed to
eat meat. Corn fed beef contains more saturated fat than grass fed beef, making it exceedingly
unhealthy. Pollan also talks about the harsh lives of animals on... Show more content on

Chickens eat insects from the waste of the cows, producing rich eggs. The owner of Polyface
Farm, Joel Salatin, has mastered this way of farming by harnessing the natural benefits of
producing a variety of species together. Pollan also participated in the process of slaughtering
chickens on Polyface Farm, which is much smaller and less routine than on factory

Films often explore themes surrounding issues commonly seen in the community, issues that
may be worldwide dialogue, like sexuality and gender. In addition, they may look into
ideological controversies and with the use of cinematic elements like Mise en ScГЁne,
Photography, and Movement to imply the director s viewpoint on different issues. Some
movies, take a liberal side on issues like sexual freedom, expressing how they believe individuals
should not be judged for personal decisions, who they are, who they are with, or what they do.
Along with the idea that everyone ought to be free to make their own choices, who they want to
start a family with, whom they want to be in a relationship with, and who they want to be. Being
in a relationship, like sexual decisions, ought to be mutual decisions, without the influence of a
third party having an impact or being an obstacle, an individual can choose who to be in a relation

children due to which they like to behave freely and promiscuously and do not like to be

knowledge, techniques and skills for one s different adult roles in the society, having to take up
a job at a young age to earn a living, is bound to affect the very process of growing up.

percent of adult male wage rate in 1984 85 and 1986 87 respectively. But the man days of

children there were 307 and 315 respectively in 1984 and 1987. He has advanced the argument that

In January 1759 he married Martha Dandridge Custis, a wealthy and attractive young widow with
two small children.
Alarmed by the repressive measures of the British crown and Parliament, Washington became a
leader in Virginia s opposition to Great Britain s colonial policies. At first he hoped for
reconciliation with Britain. In July, 1774 he presided over a meeting in Alexandria that adopted the
Fairfax Resolves, calling for the establishment and enforcement of a stringent boycott on British
imports prior to similar action by the First Continental Congress. As a delegate to the First and
Second Continental Congress 1774 and 1775 Washington did not participate actively in the
deliberations, however, his presence was undoubtedly a stabilizing influence. In June 1775 he was
Congress s unanimous choice as commander in chief of the newly created Continental Army when
fighting broke out between Massachusetts and the British.
Washington took command of the troops surrounding British occupied Boston on July 3, devoting
the next few months to training the undisciplined 14,000 man army and trying to secure urgently
needed powder and other supplies. Early in March 1776, he took command of the makeshift force
and moved his army to New York. Defeated there by the combined land and sea forces of General
William Howe, he withdrew from Manhattan to establish a new defensive line

Norse Gods and Goddessess are seperated into two different groups: The Vanir and The Aesir.
The Vanir group were associated with the earth, prosperity, and fertility. While the Aesir were

Soccer Is The Greatest Sport Essay
There are many sports in the world today, and each involves different skills in order to play. This
brings a controversial question then: which sport is the greatest? Soccer is the greatest sport due
to the fact that soccer is also an easy sport to learn. Almost every child played soccer when they
were little. There are no true height requirements in order to playsoccer. You do not have to be the
tallest playerout there to be the best. One of the most rewarding things about soccer is that it is a
team sport, which requires players to work together. One of the main concerns for parents when
their kids play a sport is how much will the sport cost? Soccer is one of the cheapest sports.
Unlike many other sports, soccer is one of the only sports where the clock doesn t stop.
Therefore, soccer is the greatest sport. One of the interviewees, Garrett (age 20), said, I do not
think that soccer is the greatest sport. It gets overshadowed by other sports, for example, baseball
and football. In this paper, I will explain why soccer is the greatest sport.
First of all, soccer is the greatest sport because it is a very easy sport to learn. If children are
taught the rules at a young age, then anyone can understand them. In my personal experience, the
rules for soccer were easy to learn because there were not too many to learn. I had to work very
hard to develop the skills for soccer. I was a referee for little kids and almost all of them

Analyzing Fouquet s Character
Our character is Fouquet, a character with a casual, yet important personality. In the very
beginning of the book, Fouquet is not mentioned at all. It s not until Chapter 10 that he is even
mentioned, and becomes a character of importance in Chapter 11. From there on, he seems to
hold a role in every chapter. The book provides minimal descriptions of Fouquet s physical
appearance, so we are only left to infer most of the details. The first small detail that is given
through the book, is in Chapter 10 on page 88. Though not directly stated, we came to the
conclusion that Fouquet is an older man. This is also backed up by the fact that Fouquet is
extremely wealthy (meaning he had more time to gain his wealth). As for Fouquet s personality,
details are almost always directly given. The most important detail of his personality that plays a
big role throughout the book is the fact that he is loyal to the king. This aspect first shows up in
Chapter 11, on page 93. In a conversation with Aramis, Fouquet reveals that he views the king as
sacred than ever and dear . Earlier in the conversation, Fouquet also states... Show more content on

The hat with a white feather in it altogether signifies honor, tying to the trait that Fouquet is a man
of honor. The feather signifies both humbleness and loyalty. Humbleness is shown through the fact
that the feather is small, and not gaudy. Loyalty is shown through the white color of the feather,
as white is known to signify loyalty. All in all, Fouquet s personality shows very well throughout
the book; and holds strong roles in his actions. Though his physical appearance is not directly
mentioned, we believe his personality is really what takes the greatest stance in Fouquet s role
anyway. He remains humble when the topic of wealth is brought up, remains loyal when speaking
of the king, and remains a man of honor in any

Darpa Failure
In recent competitions, DARPA (the Pentagon s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency)
analyzed how well currently available robots could negotiate obstacle courses and handle complex
operations in situations that may be difficult or dangerous for humans. DARPA did this as a result
of the Pentagon s finest robots miserably failing when they were sent to assist in the disaster
recovery efforts following the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan in March of 2011. In that
operation, the Pentagon sent several robots to assist in areas that were dangerous for humans to
operate in and often times the humans were forced to go in and do the operations anyway because
the robots could not communicate with their humancontrollers and often the circuitry of the robots
malfunctioned. So while at the immediate present it is highly unlikely that robots will be
conducting battlefield operations,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The robots involved in recent competitions all failed at completing the tasks assigned to them. The
most successful of the robots was a South Korean robot put together by Team KAIST. Yet even
this robot showed that it was slow going for any robot to do any of the tasks DARPA was
looking for the robots to complete. The Team KAIST robot took almost an hour to complete the
tasks assigned to it. In less than one twentieth of that time, a human team of operators could have
completed the tasks the robot was asked to do. So while at the present battlefield robotics is in its
infancy, DARPA and the US military industrial complex that highly favors technical gadgetry are
looking for ways to bring more robots to the field of battle in the coming years.
Now while combat robot technology is still in its infancy, that does not mean that DARPA and
other military researchers around the world are sitting idly by. There are some very serious future
implications with the development of combat

  • 2. Analysis Of Gorman Beauchamp s Article, Technology In Gorman Beauchamp s article, Technology in the Dystopian Novel, he writes: collectivism and technology, that is, are mutually exclusive (56). Collectivism is defined as: the practice or principle of giving a group priority over each individual in it. This idea is incredibly relevant in today s society. Our world, because of modern technology, has become incredibly individualistic. Cell phones, personal computers, tablets, and other personal technological devices have all been created with the intent to improve communication and connecting individuals in a much easier fashion. Devices are customized to the individual making it more in sync with the individual. While these devices have contributed overall in creating a more globalized world, individual cultures, especially in the United States, no longer have the group priority Beauchamp was referring to. This becomes extremely apparent in the youth of today s societies. Distractions from cell phones continually disrupt the cohesion in the classroom, playground, and in the homes. Because of the frequency of use on these personal devices, interpersonal communication is greatly hindered. Interpersonal skills are important for a culture to thrive and to be successful. It is unknown what kind of effects technology will have in the long run towards face to face communications and interpersonal relationships. The sciencefiction book series, Divergent, has an interesting solution for what happens when societies let technology ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Hooke s Law And Simple Harmonic Oscillations College physics II Laboratory Experiment 2 Hooke s law and simple harmonic oscillations by Mohamed Omer Lab Partners Youssef Farlos Roman Martinaz Jhon Fanque Date performed January 18, 2015 Introduction/ Abstract: Simple harmonic motion is the study of oscillation. An object undergoes oscillation when it experiences a restoring force which restores this object to equilibrium positon. The Simple harmonic oscillation occurs when the net force on an object along the direction of motion is proportional to the object s displacement and in the opposite direction by this equation F = kx. In addition, an object whose position time graph makes a sine or cosine function is in simple harmonic motion. This type of relation is called Hooke s law. The purpose of this experiment is to prove Hooke s law and study Simple harmonic motion and to show that this equation T = 2 is valid during Simple harmonic motion. Theory: The relevant theoretical concepts and equations used in this experiment are: T = 2 | E1 в€’ E2 | E1 + E2 2 K= Percent difference = Experimental Procedure:

A few years later, my friend was fortunate enough to inherit her family s beat up station wagon, and we all collectively agreed to call him Wilfred. For many, this idea of gendering something new and beautiful as female is second nature to us. Similar to my 12 year old self s new hockey stick, we often gendernature as feminine, because of its irrefutable beauty and power. While Joseph Conrads Heart of Darkness is set in a patriarchal society, the jungle that is recognized to have female qualities, enforces the main commanding force over the men in the Congo. Conrad s two contrasting representations of women are shown through the influential Congolese woman, who is a personification of the jungle, and the Intended, who represents the Western women who are oblivious to the true horrors in modern day society. As we near the end of the novel, we meet a striking Congolese woman that is described as the jungle s tenebrous and passionate soul (pg 168). During the first encounter with the wild woman, Marlot describes her glare at the crew as like the wilderness itself, with an air of brooding over an inscrutable purpose. (168) This is just one of the many times that the Congolese woman is compared to, or described as, nature. Through this comparison, the Congolese woman embodies many of the powerful and intriguing qualities that the jungle possesses. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Imbalance In Lord Of The Flies Analysis Imbalance is at the center of mayhem As the French philosopher Baron de Montesquieu believed, a system of checks and balances of power are necessary to have a society. William Golding had written the Lord of the Flies, a book about a group of young boys stranded on a island needing to find ways of survival. His book portrays how Montesquieu s idea of checks and balances are needed to make an ideal community. On the island, Jack and Ralph were the two boys that seemed most fit to be leaders among these stranded boys and at first the island was a safe place for living, until Jack gains more and more control where the levels of authority are not equal. With Jack having most of the control, there is an absence of balance and this absence of balance between powers on the island causes the boys turn to savagery and chaos. Golding writes of the boys failing to have a mindset of surviving together by living their life on the island with an imbalance of power to govern themselves and by having this imbalance, the boys kill each other and destroy the island to rise in dominance, which is what Montesquieu predicted would happen if there was no checks of power and balance between sides. In the Lord of the Flies, Golding shows how the boys on the island fail to govern themselves since Jack s authority grows too fast and Ralph can t limit him. Golding s book agrees with how Montesquieu believed having three branches of leadership ideally keeps the governmental system balanced. There are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When the blood supply coming from the coronaries to the myocardium cannot fit those demands, a condition called Myocardial Ischemia takes place. If that imbalance between supply and demand persists, a certain cascade of cellular, inflammatory and biochemical events lead to the irreversible death of myocardial cells, resulting in a Myocardial Infarct (MI). The spectrum of myocardial injury not only depends on the intensity of the impaired perfusion, but also and more importantly on the duration of that assault. It also depends on the metabolic demand at the time of the event. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This mechanism allows significant architectural changes to the composition, shape and contractile function of the myocardium, especially in the left ventricle, which is the major contributor to the contractile function of the heart. In most occasions, a paradoxical effect then takes place in which there is further ischemic cellular injury to the damaged myocardium as restoration of blood flow begins, triggered by a complex interaction between oxygen free radicals and intracellular calcium. There is however, a protective mechanism against this reperfusion injury lead by an endothelium derived relaxing factor called Nitric Oxide. It works by inactivating oxygen free radicals, therefore, ameliorating this process of reperfusion injury. One can interpret it in more ways than one. Some may not even understand it, but somehow Duchamp did and that is all that matters. His famous painting, titled Fountain, is viewed as one of Duchamp s most famous works and is widely seen as an icon of 20th century art. (Tate). While some may not understand the point of Duchamp s painting of the urinal, others find much needed purpose to it. If it outlined and changed such an era/time period of art, then I would say Duchamp set a new limit on what is to be or not to be considered art. I believe art is what comes from the inside the inner soul and what draws through because what lies within you, serves as a meaning to not only you, but to others as well. While, some people look at a piece of art or artwork and somehow find no meaning to it, and think, Oh, I could have done that by just dabbing or throwing a little paint on the canvas, others find meanings to these pieces of artwork. Some people will say that doublespeak is bad and people should avoid using it; for example, in Lutz s essay, The World of Doublespeak, Lutz wrote about the negative aspects of doublespeak. He defines doublespeak as, language that pretends to communicate but really doesn t (Lutz/P.347). In some case he is right as doublespeak can make things sinful, virtuous; something terrible, be wonderful, and so on. Although, what the terrorist are really are killing people and forcing innocent people to group suicide with them, when their title change some of the audiences will easily justify the terrorists behaviors. There s another example of doublespeak s dishonesty; when a person with money and authority, for example, the Prime Minister, force a regular citizen by treated them. It would sound very bad when a people says that the Prime Minister threated a citizen, but it will sound nothing if people says that the Prime Minister made a deal with the regular citizen, and in most case it this really happened the journalist would use doublespeak and change threat to deal or some positive words. The Omnivore s Dilemma By Michael Pollan The Omnivore s Dilemma Summary The main idea of The Omnivore s Dilemma, by Michael Pollan, is to make the reader aware of where his food comes from, and what goes into his food. Pollan does this by breaking the book into four different types of meals: the industrial and processed meal consisting of foodproduced in factories or grown on large scale farms, the organic meal created on industrial farms, the grass fed meal made of meat and produce created on mindful and smaller farms, and finally the meal containing food gathered, hunted, or grown by the person who will consume it. Pollan starts by explaining the origin of corn in Mexico and southwestern North America. He visited George Naylor, an industrial corn farmer living in Iowa, at his farm to learn about the dominating industry. Since corn is one of the cheapest sources of calories, and is so abundant, scientists have modified it into just about every different form they can to make more use out of it. Corn is now used to feed cattle, which are physically designed to eat meat. Corn fed beef contains more saturated fat than grass fed beef, making it exceedingly unhealthy. The first small detail that is given through the book, is in Chapter 10 on page 88. Though not directly stated, we came to the conclusion that Fouquet is an older man. This is also backed up by the fact that Fouquet is extremely wealthy (meaning he had more time to gain his wealth). As for Fouquet s personality, details are almost always directly given. In that operation, the Pentagon sent several robots to assist in areas that were dangerous for humans to operate in and often times the humans were forced to go in and do the operations anyway because the robots could not communicate with their humancontrollers and often the circuitry of the robots malfunctioned.
