How Did Aron Ralston Survive Forty Hours
Have you ever gone climbing and got stuck for 5 days and 7 hours?Do you think
you could survive these harsh conditions? Over many years of Aron Ralston s life
he has been rock climbing but on this mundane climb, something really bad went
wrong. He explains everything in the book Between A Rock And A Hard Place.
Over these few days while he was stuck, he had to grow in not only his physical
state but also in his mental state. If the situation wasn t bad enough, he only has his
left arm that he can use and has a limited supply of food and water. Throughout the
whole book Aron Ralston has shown growth to the readers like this evidence states

I can t really see how that would say he didn t grow in his abilities just because he
couldn t get him arm unstuck but i disagree. I would think that amputating your
own arm would have to take a lot of mental growth than just getting in unstuck, just
thinking about it makes my body tingle. I believe he made the best decision and
also in the process made him grow a lot in his abilities. I believe that he was just
like a wd in a garden because of how fast he grew in his abilities and made the best
out of what he had. In conclusion I believe that the character of the book Between
A Rock And A Hard Place Had overall grown in his mental and physical state not
only because he had a limited supply of food and water but because he had mostly
thought about the good things in his situation. In his situation he had to work with
what he had and he ended up overall getting out of the situation pretty well
compared to being dead if he had not learned all the new information I believe that
he would of been dead. Just think of how you do everything in your like and you

Supernatural Aid In Le Morte D Arthur
What is a supernatural aid? According to gordannapier.com, a supernatural aid is
defined as help given to the hero from someone who is endowed with abilities
beyond the normal. They may or may not give the hero some talisman to help him
on the journey. Merlin from Le Morte D Arthur is a supernatural aid who
circumlocutory helps the hero by using his abnormal abilities to protect and give
advice. Merlyn from from The Once and Future Kingis also a supernatural aid who
uses his anomalistic abilities to protect and give advice, but he directly helps the hero.
Both stories involve supernatural aids, but each help the hero in a contradistinctive
way. Although Merlinappears as Arthur s metaphysical aid in both Le Morte D Arthur
and The Once and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To illustrate, Merlyn had remembered to give him the proper smell for the nest for if
he had smelled of any other nest, they would have killed him at once. This illustrates
how Merlyn protected Arthur by equipping him with essential aromas to avoid
injuries or ruination. Lastly, Merlin in Le Morte D Arthur protects Arthur by causing
the Archbishop to surround Arthur with knights until he is accepted. The author
states, that we let purvey ten knights, men of good fame, and they to keep this sword
which shows how Merlin counseled the Archbishop into providing protection for
Arthur. Nevertheless, Merlyn in The Once and Future King protects Arthur by
removing Arthur and transforming him back before the ants go to war. To further
illustrate, The horrible armies were on the point of joining battle, to dispute the
imaginary boundary between their glass trays when Merlyn came to be there. As
far as protection, Merlin in Le Morte D Arthur provides indirect protection through
others; whereas, Merlyn in The Once and Future King provides more direct or
hands on advice. Direct protection, in my opinion, is better than indirect protection
because it is more reliable, and it goes through less people which lessens the chance
of alterations. Second of all, both Merlin in Le Morte D Arthur and Merlyn from The
Once and Future King provide advice. Merlin in
Introduction To Chemistry, A Natural Science, And Social...
The subjects for this study will be undergraduate students enrolled in either
Introduction to Chemistry, a natural science, or General Psychology, a social
science, at the University of Arkansas in Spring 2018. Students will enroll in
courses based on their own academic preferences. These courses are both scheduled
for 50 minute discussion sections that meet two days a week (TTh) from either 9:30
10:20 or 10:30 11: 20. All identifying features of the student (e.g. names or student
ID number) will be replaced with random 7 digit ID numbers that the researchers will
assign to each student on the first day of the course. The condition each identification
number is in will not be revealed until the experiment has concluded and the data is...

Researchers will also be analyzing if the type of course, natural science or social
science, will alter the note taking technique that has the highest scores. Type of
course will also be a between subjects variable. Materials required will include in
class assignments related to the lecture materials. Each in class assignment will
consist of ten questions that are easy to answer if the student was attending to
what the professor was saying. All students will require a laptop or paper notebook
to take notes on. The classrooms necessary will be smaller rooms with a maximum
of 40 seats per room. This small size is necessary so the research assistants can
ensure each student is using the correct method. Additionally, one experimental
condition will require the use of the app StayFocusd from Transfusion Media
(2010) which allows its users to temporarily block access to user specified apps for
a designated amount of time. This experiment will require the use of four research
assistants. Two of these assistants will be placed in the classroom to ensure students
are using the appropriate method. The remaining two research assistants will be in
the lab processing and configuring the data for the results of the experiment. Different
researchers will be used to compute the data than those who are in the classrooms to
eliminate any chance of experimenter bias. Lastly, the professors will be designing
and distributing the in class assignments. Procedure Students
Serving Lunch For School Children Essay
Serving lunch to school children began with private organizations making donations
to a handful of schools. In the peak of the 20th century, concern over children s
nutrition caused balanced meals to be provided to students during their lunch hour.
Philadelphia began to serve lunches for one cent in 1894. Eventually their penny
lunch program was extended to eight other schools throughout the city. In January
1910, schools in Boston began serving lunch to elementary schoolstudents three days
a week. On the other days, a simple meal of milk and sandwiches was served. Since
there was no lunchroom in the building, students would eat at their desks (Avey,
2015).
At long last, the school lunch program was made official in 1946 when President
Harry Truman signed the National School Lunch Act. The National School Lunch Act
of 1946 states: It is hereby declared to be the policy of Congress, as a measure of
national security, to safeguard the health and well being of the Nation s children and
to encourage the domestic consumption of nutritious agricultural commodities and
other food, by assisting the States, through grants in aid and other means, in providing
an adequate supply of food and other facilities for the establishment, maintenance,
operation and expansion of nonprofit school lunch programs (Avey, 2015).
Unfortunately, the school lunch program made little progress after that. Without any
sort of guarantee of the success of the school lunch program in the years ahead,
Rigel And Deimos Creation Story
Originally there were two brothers ,Rigel and Deimos. Rigel, the God of stars, and
Deimos, the God of the planets, battled for the right to claim the sun as their own.
The sun was not just another empty void waiting to be filled with life, it was the
most beautiful thing ever to exist. The radiant sun was in fact a woman an oddity.
Her name was Melea. Rigel wanted the sunas a star and Deimos wanted it as a planet.
Deimos wanted to cripple Rigels power so he created a black hole to absorb his stars
and temporarily weaken his brother. Rigel, sullen by his brother s actions, conjured
all of his remaining power and shot down a shooting star to his brother s planet Kai.
Kai was one of many of Deimos s planets and like most of his brothers other... Show

As they grew up, their ability to utilize and apply their elemental powers became
phenomenal. They showed that they were truly prodigies. But amidst all of this
Terra and Astraea contested to marry Ignis. Ignis resided in his home, which
happened to be a volcano. The two Goddesses came to prove their worth to the
God, but were evenly matched. The Ignis decided that a battle would suffice for his
hand. The goddesses gathered at the top of the volcano and prepared to battle. As the
battle began, Terra used her powers over the Earth to cast tremendous boulders at
Astraea. As Ignis watched the giant rocks fly towards Astraea, he began to regret
his decision. In an effort to save Astraea, he projected spirals of fire towards the
boulders. The fire flew through the air just in time to destroy the boulders and save
Astraea s life. Ignis was relieved, but before he had the chance to explain, Terra
became a wave of anger . She flung bigger boulders faster than ever before. With
only seconds until the rocks would impact Astraea, both Ignis and Astraea s powers
of fire and spirit met the gigantic boulders. Never before had any three elements been
combined. The elements fire, earth, and spirit unexpectedly soldered. After the
smoke and ashes and cleared, the gods were amazed. Standing in front of them were
two beings, that had never been created before. A woman and a man had been created
from the three elements combining. The goddesses

Silence In Krapp s Last Tape
Silence as a Character in Krapp s Last Tape Krapp, a cantankerous old man
attempting to relive his best years by listening to a tape he recorded on his thirty
ninth birthday in Beckett s Krapp s Last Tape , constantly pauses and allows silence
to overwhelm him and his thoughts. By allowing the invasion of silence into the play,
the spotlight is taken off of Krapp in a one man play supposedly about Krapp, as he
cannot maintain controlat the most basic level. The play begins and concludes with
silence, and therefore silence is the first characterthe audience meets in the play,
demonstrating its importance in controlling Krapp and his actions through the story.
Throughout the play, silence constantly appears, whether in namesake or in the form
of relentless pauses in Krapp s speech, and dominates Krapp and his language. Krapp,
in constantly submitting to the ever present enemy of silence, demonstrates that he
has no control over the story that is supposed to center around himself, and that
silence is the character to overwhelm Krapp because it represents his fundamental
flaw, his loneliness. The play opens on stage directions describing Krapp s den, and
does not introduce the only material character in the story until four lines in (247).
When Krapp, the main character, is introduced and described as an unkempt man, it
is revealed immediately that he cannot take care of himself. Although the play is
focused around and named after Krapp, he cannot hold attention upon

back at the history of the clutch facing, it becomes apparent that the technological
advancement of the clutch has had very little impact on clutch facing technology.
Earlier asbestos was used as friction material in single plate dry friction clutch.
Asbestos is hazardous to human health and detrimental to environment. So recently
kevlar49/Epoxy material is used as friction material. But it has its own
disadvantages. So it is time to consider use of any other environment friendly and

Clutch Facing Clutch facing is the heart of clutch assembly which actually transmits
power from engine to transmission or drive shaft. It is a friction surface which binds
face plate of fly wheel and pressure plate of clutch assembly. A major benefit to using
a lining or facing is that it prevents metal to metal contact within the clutch set,
resulting in less wear and tear on the clutch components. Clutch facings tend to have
mid level coefficients of friction, and are responsible for removing most of the clutch
vibrations from the engine. They also aid in allowing engines to achieve high speeds
without damaging the components. Fig.1 Clutch Facing 3. Desirable Characteristics
of Dry Clutch Facings Clutch friction linings are subjected to severe rubbing so that
generation of heat in relatively short periods takes place. Therefore, the lining
material should have a combination of the following properties to withstand the

Bring Forth the Fruits of Righteousness from Darkness The artist of whose work I
observed was Damien Hirst. He was born June 7 1965 and is an English artist,
entrepreneur and art collector. The piece of art I observed was Bring Forth the
Fruits of Righteousness from Darkness , it is a gloss covered canvas covered by
real butterfly wings and household paint. It is set up to resemble three stained
glass windows from a gothic cathedral. The piece is on display at the Cleveland
Museum of art and on loan for five years. The work of art showcases Hirst s theme
of death that is shown in many of his pieces. Damien Hirst became famous for his
artwork in preserving dead animals. His works have included cows, sheep, sharks, ...

Damien Hirst is a Conceptual artist because his work most often takes precedence
over and traditional matters or ideas. This is shown by his work with dead animals
and preserving them, which is most often frowned upon. Hirst is known to be a
contemporary artist with his work being very modern and spread throughout the
country in galleries, exhibits, and even private collections. The Cleveland
Museum of Art holds Damien Hirst s Bring Forth the Fruits of Righteousness from
Darkness on special loan for five years. It also holds many different exceptional
pieces that include Asian and Egyptian art, and its own Picasso collection. It holds
43,000 works of art from around the world. The Museum holds so much history and
offers free admission to its public to come and absorb some of world s greatest works

Damien Hirst is a widely known artist that is known to be one of the richest artists
to be alive today. His work moves many people for many different reasons and is
known for its controversy, beauty, and eccentric style. We are lucky to have his
work on display in the Cleveland Museum of Art. He continues to make art today
that stands out and is just as beautiful and interesting as the piece I was privileged to
Major Problems Of Urban Transport
3. Major problems of urban transport
Kuala Lumpur is not always considered as a megacity for its scale and population.
However, its urban area and urban population density can be compared to many
metropolitans in the Global North. Being a motor dominated city with high
population density, rapid economy growth, and a rather small scale, Kuala Lumpur is
facing its own problems of urban transport. (1) Kuala Lumpur has one of the lowest
public transport passenger amount levels in Asia due to the rising ownerships and
usage rate of private cars. The recently launched Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2020
revealed that only 20 percent of total Kuala Lumpur passenger movements take place
by public transport while 80 percent by private transport (Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2020, 2004). The public transportation has modern
facilities, but with the poor system and low quality service, therefore, more and
more people are shifting from public transport to private cars and motors. Although
the local government made efforts to introduce rails as public transport in the 1980s,
expecting to slow down the speed of increasing motor vehicles, their popularity
remained (Aldukali et al, 2011). The low efficiency also contributes to the shift. The
buses and metros always arrive late, consuming more time for passengers to travel
from house to work, which in turn further aggravates the low usage rate.
(2) The increasing car ownerships number causes the rising demand

TASK 1
RESEARCH PROPOSAL
Research proposal is a detail or map of research that involves the problems and
issues, an assumption to solution, methods to achieve proposed objectives, budget
and time. In other words, it can be said that the research proposal is a document
prepared previously with an intention or vision to find out cause effect relationship
between or among marketing or business variables. Dawson (2009:57) views: The
proposal is a document which sets out your ideas in an easily accessible way. To say
clearly, research proposal is an overall description of what one wants to do, for what

TASK 1.1
RESEARCH QUESTION OR HYPOTHESIS Research deals with specific issues
or problems, which are prominent to be explored and solved. In fact, the research
centers on some specific issues and questions which should be addressed. Such
issues or questions are the statement of the problems, to solve which, the researchers
generate a tentative solution or response to the questions stated in the research.
However, to identify the issues and probable solutions for them in a logical way is a
challenging task for researchers. In general terms, research question is an issue or
problem that
A Brief Look at Rashid Rana
Rashid Rana is a contemporary artist born in 1968 in Lahore, Pakistan. In 1992, he
did his Bachelors in Fine Arts from the National College of Arts in Lahore, Pakistan,
and received his degree of Masters of Fine Arts from the Massachusetts College of
Art, Boston, Massachusetts, US in 1994. Being one of the most influential artists in
the country, his works have been displayed in many exhibitions here in Pakistanand
abroad. He has worked on many different projects including photo mosaics and
sculptures, photographic and video performances, collages using objects in the
environment, and works using stainless steel. Looking for a new motive each time,
he has also collaborated with billboard painters and has portrayed his ideas on
canvas. The secret behind his success is using different channels to represent the
originality of his works using visual language. Rana s focus of work nowadays are
large scale images made up of small pictures, which are at times in contradiction
with each other, but sometimes also support the larger images. He is currently the
head of the Fine Arts Department and one of the founding faculty members of the
School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD), Beaconhouse National University,
Lahore. Rana s works may not seem so comprehensive at first, but taking a closer
look shows how detailed and subvert they are. He enabled his work to be more
attractive and understandable by making it easy for an observer to comprehend by

Multicultural In Canada
Development of Canada as a multicultural nation
In the early half of the 20th century, Canada was not known to be socially accepting
of different races, nor were a lot of countries in the world at the time. However, after
World War II, everything started to change. People started to stand up to these unfair
rules, like the African Canadians and First Nations did. In other cases, like the
Vietnamese, they were gradually accepted into the Canadian Society. Throughout all
the ups and downs, protests and court rulings, we can look back and thank this era
for the diversity they created in Canada. The First Nations and the African Canadian
issues were significant, but the biggest clue that signified social change in Canada

Though the first nations had operated on Canadian soil long before any Europeans
settled on the land, they were still disregarded in terms of importance in the early
20th century: Aboriginal policy was made by government without consulting
Aboriginal people and with little public attention . This quote shows how First
Nations people had no voice when it came to decisions made about them, or
anything else in Canada for that matter. Aboriginals hated that they were being taken
advantage of, and they felt like they were just a pawn in the government s game of
chess. However, this started to change in the 1950s when public opinion became
more informed and disturbed about Aboriginal poverty and marginality . The
Aboriginals voice was finally heard in 1951, where the Indian Act was revised.
Aboriginal representatives looked to further revise the Act in 1968, but the
Government had other plans. In the Summer of 1969, the Government releases its
proposal of The White Paper , which was a plan to terminate the Indian Act, and
therefore Indian status, within the next 5 years. The Aboriginals refused to give in to
the government s wishes, and fought hard to convince them of a different approach.
The Government now saw for the first time of how the First Nations could put up a
good fight. The government, who was now faced with multiple tough decisions,
retreated on their harsh demands and
Military Bombers Research Paper

fulfilling there main role, bombers were also used for air support from long and

Business Practices In Russi Personal And Business Relations
Russia places a heavy emphasis on relationship informalities such as sitting down
with a glass of vodka or indulging in a shared hobby. In fact, these things are so
commonly valued, that avoidance of them can often be offensive. Trust, of course,
is at the core of this collective emphasis for informal goodwill. Russians in general
have a culturally deep desire to root their business, personal and political
relationships in stable ground. This desire is expressed not only in their value for
relationship gestures, but also in the rigidity of their formal practices. These practices
include a profound emphasis on punctuality, a win/lose or battlefield business
mindset, and assertive power figures in negotiation. These characteristics are... Show

While negotiation, the Russians mentality may differ from the European one: they
will focus on what they will lose more than what they will gain. During negotiation,
they will become threatening and even leave the room these are typical strategies
that they like to use to increase pressure. The primary negotiation style in the
country is very competitive and they may become out right hostile. To encourage a
strong relationship will can make negotiation a little more corporative. Very few
Russian businessman are highly skilled negotiators but this does not mean they
will not haggle and bargain a lot, they are not an easy prey because they can be
patient, persistent and stubborn. The best approach is to be polite but remain tough

Directors And Shareholders
Directors and shareholders are the two main organs that make up a company.
Section 250 of Companies Act 2006 defines director as any person occupying the
position of director, by whatever name called . Directors have the responsibility to
manage the company as they may exercise all the powers of the company. Whether
or not a person uses the title of director is irrelevant in determining whether such
person is a director, someone who is described as manager or governor can
possibly be a director. Similarly, companies may give their employee titles such as
sales or marketing director, without really occupying that position in law. There are 3
classes of director, the de juredirector, de factodirector and the shadow director, for

A de facto director is a person who openly assumes the functions and status of a
director but who has never been validly appointed to be that position according to
law. In Paycheck, it was held that Mr Holland was not a de facto director of the 42
companies although all his acts were all attributable to the corporate director, he is
just a de jure director of the corporate director. However, there is no single defining
and reliable test to determine whether someone is a de facto director. Lord Hope
and Lord Collins both provide helpful guidelines to identify de facto director.
According to Lord Collins, the most relevant tests are whether the person was the
sole person directing the affairs of the company or at least acting on equal footing
with de jure directors, whether he is someone who is holding out by the company and
whether the individual used the title of director and lastly whether the individual was
part of the corporate governing structure .
Even though there are 3 key strands in the reasoning of majority, the most satisfactory
test is whether there was an assumption of responsibility by the person to act as
director. The majority in Paycheck stated that Mr Holland had not assumed any
fiduciary duties in respect of the companies, although he had taken decisions for the
company and discharged his obligations as director of the corporate director. The law
remains unclear because while

Aspects Of Education Voucher Programs
International experiences of education vouchers implementation and outcomes
Chile
The education voucher system was introduced in Chile in 1980, as part of an overall
government free market package introduction. This approach included fully
subsidised, privately run and unregulated voucher schools introduced within the
system. These schools could ultimately compete with municipality run public schools
in all middle class and low income metropolitan neighborhoods.
Evidence on the outcomes of the voucher program indicated there was some
significant social and economic issues resulting. Firstly, total spending on education
(including parental contributions) fell. In 1985, the federal contribution was 80% of
total educational spending, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

completion rates were not significantly increased with voucher holders only one tenth
more likely to remain in school
The voucher system in Colombia was discontinued from 1998 with the current
government of the time indicating there was no measure of effectiveness of the
program.
Sweden
Sweden introduced a system of school vouchers in 1992 across both primary and
secondary schools. The vouchers provided free choice for families to send their
children to publicly or privately run schools. Public funding from each municipality
was then directed to schools based on their numbers of students. Sweden s voucher
policy allowed more accessibility of students to independently run private schools.
Since introduction, however, Carnoy indicates the original Swedish voucher model
was replaced by direct subsidies regulated by municipalities.
While the voucher system was introduced to improve school quality and enhanced
social equity, it is not clear that these outcomes have been achieved. While there is no
direct evidence that links the move of student to privately run schools with a fall in
educational outcomes; it is clear that overall Swedish international education test
scores have fallen since 2000 in the PISA test .

##s And Weaknesses And Strengths Of Rudy Giuliani
Like all famous leaders, Rudy Giuliani had his fair share of strengths and
weaknesses. Giuliani showed the country and the world what true leadership was in
the wake of 9/11. During a time of crisis, he demonstrated courageousness, dedication
and composure. Even though Giuliani is mostly remembered for his strengths, his
weaknesses are usually overlooked. He was criticized for being unfaithful and
allowing lust to break up his marriage. Another weakness of Giuliani was his
inconsistency to reprimand his policeforce. Giuliani was a man of positivity. No
matter the situation, Giuliani always looked at the positive side of things and didn t
allow his emotions to get the best of him. This strength of his leadership style
stemmed from the core values his father taught him. In an interview with Barbara
Walters, Giuliani talked about what his father taught him. Giuliani explained that his
father had taught him how to act during a crisis: When there is a crisis going on,
the most important thing is to be calmer. If everybody s getting very upset and very
emotional, the best way to figure out your way through it is to actually become
calmer and relax more. He understood that when in a time of uncertainty, being calm
was the key. Another key strength of Giuliani was how he was a natural born leader.
NYPD Commissioner William Bratton commented on Giuliani s natural born
leadership. I ve seen the mayor in many instances during the time I worked with him

Pros And Cons Of Bug Out Bag
Bug Out Bag Debate: Tarp or Tent for Emergency Shelter
A bug out bag is designed for emergencies, so some inconvenience is to be expected.
When on a family outing you can carry a six or eight person cabin tent in the back of
your vehicle. Weight is not a large factor when you can pack your supplies in the
cargo space of an SUV or pickup.
When packing supplies on your back however, weight can be a deciding factor.
What you think you can carry on your back, and what you can actually carry, are
two different things. Twenty minutes hiking up and down the sidewalk with 30 to 50
pounds strapped on does not mean you can perform the same way physically while
in a crisis when walking over rough and uneven terrain for hours at a time.
Tents
Most backpacking tents are designed for 1 to 2 people. A one person tentallows
approximately 15 square feet of sleeping space. Keep in mind you will have gear as
well, so it will be cramped. The weight can be anywhere from 3 to 6 pounds

United States Government Policy Analysis
The role of the United States government has increased to detrimental levels over
the last century. Our nation is currently over 18 trillion dollars in debt and this
number continues to grow everyday. Social programs are leading our nation s people
under a constraining weight of debt and forced dependency on the government. Our
government needs to refocus on serving the people instead of enslaving them. Adam
Smith, an eighteenth century Scottish moral philosopher said the ideal functions of
the government are few and well defined. (Lipford, Slice, 2007) Smith named three
important functions, national defense, administration of justice, and the provision
of public goods. One of the largest reasons our country is in so much debt is from
government expansion to include many socialistic programs. Many of these
programs were started by President Franklin D. Roosevelt between 1933 and 1938 in
response to the great depression of 1929, and are still in... Show more content on

Abdurhman Alsadi Prof. Joshua Long Exam #3 04/14/2016 Question #1 The antitrust
laws are basically competition laws that are aimed at protecting the consumers from
predatory businesses out who may be out to defraud consumer and to limit the
practice of free and fair competition in the market. The major objective of these laws
was majorly meant to curb business practise vices such as price fixing, bid rigging,
and market allocations. In USA, the antitrust law is cascade into two major
categories, the federal antitrust laws, and state antitrust laws. The first antitrust law in
USA was the Sherman Act of 1890. This law mainly address the unreasonable
restraints of trade which are perceived to be monopolizing with foreign entities and
restraint of businesses from operations in the form of contracts and conspiracies in
business combinations. The second major antitrust law is the Clayton Act brought in

activities such as price discrimination between different purchasers if such

competition. The third major antitrust law were the Robinson Patman Act of 1936.
This came as an amendment to the Clayton Act, which aimed at outlawing certain
practices where manufacturers discriminated in price between equally situated
distributors to decrease competition. The
Analysis Of Joseph Conrad s The Two Lives Of The...
Joseph Conrad is a master of the English language and human thought alike, his
written work serving as living evidence of how well Conrad s mind allowed him to
construct such powerful imagery and word play from a language that he had not
fully grasped himself until he was an older man. Originating in Polish Ukraine,
Conrad was born in 1857 as a young man who dreamed much further than those
living in his society, to leave his village to become a sailor and see all parts of the
world. His family was very against this idea, as he would likely never be welcomed
back to his home country. Leo Gurko discusses in the second chapter of his book,
The Two Lives of Joseph Conrad, that his family was very regularly trying to talk
Conrad out of being a sailor, as the country was in need of young working men and
it would have been a betrayal to leave for his own interests, yet it did not stop his
ambitions. This only drove him further towards the man he would one day
become, Marlowe. Conrad s extensive knowledge of language is a large part of
what allowed him to be able to travel, his understanding of French was essential for
working alongside the Belgians in the Congo( Gurko 71). His love for Shakespeare,
which had been introduced to him at eight years old by his father (Lynn Alexander),
would lead him to study and understand the English language. His experience in the
Congo along with his obsession of the English language built the base for what would
be later transformed into his a
How Did The Treaty Of Todesilla Change The World
Does the Treaty of Tordesillas change the world? The Treaty of Tordesillas divided
the New World into land, resources, and people claimed by Spain and Portugal.
Pope Alexander VI issued and official order which divided the New World lands
between Spain and Portugal. A north south line of separation would be placed west
of the Cape Verde Islands. The Treaty of Tordesillas was signed on June 7, 1494 and
authenticated at Setubal, Portugal.
In the town of Tordesillas in 1494, representatives of Portugal and Spaincame to a
negotiated agreement to their dispute. The separating line was moved 370 leagues
west of the Cape Verde Islands. Even though Portugal gained a larger part of South
America, Spain got control of most of the New World .
In 1506, the agreement was officially recognized by Pope Alexander. Spain and
Portugal, with a few concessions, both countries remained loyal to the treaty. Portugal
expanded into Brazil crossing the line separating the two countries, but Spain did not
oppose. The natives of these regions were not consulted about the assignment of their
homelands to others and competing powers in Europe totally ignored the line. This
treaty ignored future claims of the French and British, the other superpowers of
Europe at the time. The British, Russian, and French empires did not take any parts
of the Americas for several years following the Treaty of Tordesillas. The Treaty of
Tordesillas ignored the millions of people that inhabited and established communities
in the Americas. The treaty agreed that lands with a Christian king would not be
colonized . Christianity had not spread to the Americas, and the resulting colonization
proved disastrous for indigenous cultures such as the Inca, Taino, Aztec, Tupi, and
thousands of other bands throughout the Americas .
The Treaty of Tordesillas was to solve the disagreement that had been created after
Christopher Columbus and his crew sailed for the Crown of Castile. When
Christopher was heading back to Spain, his first stop was Lisbon, in Portugal. He
asked for a meeting with King John II to discuss the discovered lands. After the
Portuguese were informed about Columbus voyage, the King threatened the Catholic

of these had occurred, but it would make them possible. There is another reason for
the importance. God presumably doesn t teach us things for no reason. If He has

ALGORITHM FOR INTRUSION DETECTION SYSTEM
3.1INTRODUCTION The increase in the usage of the computer networks leads to the
huge rise in the threat and attacks. These attackers change, steal and destroy the
valuable information and finally cause complete damage to the computer system of
the victim. They affect the performance of the computer system through the
misconfiguration activities and generation of software bugs from internal and
external networks. Irrespective of the existence of various security mechanism,
attackers often attempt to harm the computer system of the intended legitimate users.
Hence, security is a main factor for the efficient operation of the network in various
applications such as healthcare monitoring, military surveillance, etc. The most
common security mechanisms are firewalls, antivirus programs and Intrusion
Detection System (IDS).
Firewalls (Fehr, 2013) are the commonly used mechanism for securing the corporate
network or sub network. The firewall is operated based on a set of rules that can
protect the system from the flooding attacks. The main function is sorting of the
packets according to the allow/deny rules, based on the header filed information. But
the firewalls cannot ensure complete protection of an internal network, since they are
unable to stop the internal attacks. The computer viruses can cause damage to the
computer data that leads to the complete failure of the

according to the government policies they have pay more taxes. Furthermore,
Buffett provides his personal example that last year he paid the least percentages of
taxes in his office. Buffett uses several precise data to show the difference. In the

claim that the human body and soul were viewed as completely separate;
consequently, their relationship as such and the united being of man become

emerged and has remained prominent to this day. It can only be properly understood,
I believe, in connection with the emergence in the modern world of certain modes of
intersubjective life, such as communication in the scholarly and academic
environments. To this end, I will call attention to one the most serious accusations
levelled at Descartes and the entire modern philosophy, i.e. the dualism
106
Ећtefan Afloroaei / Descartes and the metaphysical dualism
of substances : the human body and soul have been understood as being two
completely separate substances. Consequently, both the relationship between them
and man s lived presence would have become totally incomprehensible. It was
claimed that this dualism of substances was the unmistakable symptom of
metaphysical thought, which would possibly mean that the very presence of
metaphysics is indicative of a serious case of misapprehension or deviation1.
However, the very idea of Cartesian dualism may be viewed as a locus obscurus in
the philosophical thought. It is an obscure place not only because it has been
inadequately examined or debated. Rather because recent history has accepted it
completely as the symbolic thesis of a whole tradition of thought. Therefore, it is not
surprising to find references
How Did Justin Trudeau Influence The Citizens Of Canada
On October 19th, 2015, Canada had its 42nd general election. Justin Trudeau was
the best choice Canadians could make in terms of electing a new Prime Minister.
Many past leaders of the Liberal Party of Canada can be held accountable for great
change, such as Lester B. Pearson commissioning a search for a new flag, Pierre
Trudeau(Justin Trudeau s father) creating the Official Languages Act and Mackenzie
King instituting a national old age pension plan. Justin Trudeau is also considerate of
the citizens of Canada; this is evident based on his opposition of the Northern
Gateway Pipeline and outspoken support for the middle class throughout his
candidacy. Similarly, Trudeau does not only consider himself responsible of his
citizens but also the environment, given his promise to modify Canada s national
park admission fees and interest in ending fossil fuel subsidies.... Show more content

In 1927, The Right Honourable Mackenzie King organized the Old Age Pensions
Act an act that gave a pension (with a limit of two hundred forty dollars a year) to
any English Canadian citizen over seventy that had lived in the country for a
minimum of two decades. Not only that, but the act gave benefits to seniors living
in poverty all across Canada. Later in 1965 another Prime Minister, Lester B.
Pearson, commissioned a search for a new flag. His search was successful, and the
finished product was revealed later that same year on February 15th. Last but not
least, there was also Pierre Trudeau Justin Trudeau s father who was elected not
once but twice. He was an advocate of equality and pushed for an act that would give
English and French Canadians equal status in parliament. This push was effective and
is known as the Official Languages
Group Dynamics And Its Developmental Stages
Abstract There are different stages through which a group passes, both as natural
and in a school atmosphere. According to the Oxford Dictionary, 2015, Group
Dynamics, is the study or use of the processes involved when people in a group
interact. This paper will look to examine group dynamics and its developmental
stages in the context of a group randomly selected to make a class room
presentation which involved researching, forming of information to present
findings to the class. It will also look at how group goals were developed and if the
group goals were specific and understood. Group communication patterns will also
be examined and its effectiveness discussed. We will also take a look whether group
power occurred and whether or not... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the group members suggested that the entire group read the specific article
and come ready to discuss what each member understood from the article. After a
group discussion of the article, another member suggested that each member select
a question they felt comfortable answering and presenting in class. The group
members also agreed a deadline as to when everyone needed to write up their part
of the presentation and turn it in to one members of a group who would gather the
data and enter it into a power point presentation format. Everyone in the group
agreed that they would email me their written part of the presentation. Prior to the
classroom presentation, the group reviewed the data entered in the power point,
edited it and agreed as to the order of the information that would be presented in
class. Finally, the group gathered prior to the presentation and made last minute
edits to slides. The group agreed that there were too many slides and agreed to
reduced them to a minimal amount. After agreeing to the final PowerPoint
presentation the group rehearsed the information to be presented prior to the class
meeting. This group did not experience the storming effect. No one in the group
believed that they were being judged and everyone was able to share their opinion
and views. As one member of the group stated that this was one of the easiest group
she had ever been in because everyone got along and no arguments over the project
emerged.
Cities Of Gold Quote Analysis
I cried the first time I went on an airplane alone. My aunt, enlisted as emotional
support by my mother, had clearly been prepared for this moment. Sitting down in
front of me, she said, This too shall pass . It s not an original quote it s a Persian
proverb but it provided the needed comfort. I ve thought a lot about that quote
during my reading of Cities Of Gold. My aunt had meant it in a this bad part will
be over soon way, but you can so easily apply it to the good parts of life. All things
must pass, the good, the bad, the merely okay. Cities of Gold argues that we must
accept this truth of life, the fact that everything eventually fades into oblivion, as it
relates to ourselves and to the society we live in. One tragic fact of... Show more

Take, for example, the Pecos Indians. In 1540, they were extremely powerful, but
their entire civilization began to decline after the arrival of the Spanish, eventually
fading when the trading city of San Miguel takes its spot as a hub. Preston chooses
to end the book with this story of him standing in the literal ruins of Pecos,
thinking, Pecos was a victim not of some epic convulsion in war and fire, but of
the creeping smoulder of history. It ended its life without even a whimper, passing
away as imperceptibly as a coal losing its internal heat. When the last seventeen
Pecos Indians packed up and left, there was no one to see them go, no one to
record the event. This is the way other civilizations have died Egypt, ancient
Greece, the Roman Empire and it may be our end yet (463). The creeping smoulder
of history Preston describes has lingered throughout the book, from Pecos to the
ranchers fighting to hold onto their lifestyle. It is a slow creep, yes, but it comes for

The Marxist Theory Of Marxist Criticism
The Marxist theory research
What is the marxist criticism?
Marxists believe that all of human history has been divided by socioeconomic
classes. They believe that the progression of history so far has been pushed forward
by these class struggles. From these struggles they say that capitalism was born, but
eventually the struggles will reach a breaking point where the lower and middle
classes turn on the wealthy, leading to the implementation of socialism.

Personal Values Statement On My Inner Self
Personal Values Statement In understanding oneself it is often difficult to remain
truthful and unbiased when analyzing our deficiencies and strengths. Nonetheless,
on an opposing continuum one faces modesty and simplification in the analyses of
the previously mentioned traits. The following self observation aims to reach an
equilibrium in learning about my inner self. I have always considered myself a
kind person. As an example; on a drive back home from Minnesota I stopped at a
rest stop where a mother along with her children were having car troubles. I
offered to help and drive to nearest auto part store and purchase a torn radiator hose
for her, being that I am also familiar with cars I also replaced the hose for them
before I left the rest stop. A second trait that I hold is being happy. As the old
saying goes; there is no sense in crying over spoiled milk. During my last year in
high school I made some bad choices, which mainly involved skipping classes more
than I should have. The preceding caused a postponement in my graduating in May,
having to be moved to December. Nonetheless, I managed to graduate not only
from High School but College as well; being happy all the way through. The one
thing that I aspire to the most is personal growth in the area of knowledge and
academics. I believe this comes about from a genuine passion for helping others and
practicing benevolence. One might ask how the preceding to circumstances correlate
and I believe that in order for
Food Security Movement And The Global Food Supply
Initiatives
Large businesses dominate our local and global food systems controlling most of
production, processing, distribution, marketing and retailing of food. This gives big
businesses the power to eliminate competition and dictate their own terms to their
suppliers forcing farmers and consumers into poverty and malnutrition. As a result,
movements such as food security, global foodsupply initiatives and Food Sovereignty
have been created to combat the damage big corporations have caused on farmers
and communities. The food security movement and the global food supply initiatives
both strive for safe and adequate amount of food to be available to communities to
reduce povertyand malnutrition on a global scale. However, both differ in that food
security pushes for the right for all people to have physical, social and economic
access to safe, adequate and nutritious food for an active and healthy life (ACIAR,
Food Security and why it matters , 2012) whereas, the global food supply initiative
leans more towards improvements in food safety management systems to have all
consumers access to safe food. (Buhot) On that note, a third relatively new movement
has been created called food sovereignty which presents a broader concept and
solutions on solving problems of hunger and malnutrition. Food sovereignty focuses
on the right of peoples, communities and countries to define their own agricultural,
labour, fishing, food and land polices which are ecologically, socially, economically

Troy Sivan Research Papers
Troye Sivan, who told us, My youth is yours, has inadvertently snapped the wittiest,
most erotic gay selfie of the Millennium. As clever as anything Mapplethorpe shot,
this picture, which freezes Sivan s narcissistic youth in a moment of self inspection
and perhaps even admiration, makes good on his popular lyric, even if he now
pleads with the internet to wipe it from memory. But the internet never forgets a
pretty anus. The selfie is satire and sincere breakthrough, a reimagining of narcissistic
mirror talk and a thrusting of taboo, subculture confined anality into popular
awareness. Sivan s sphincter, blithely agape, is a clarion announcing the arrival of
the youthful homosexual anus as eye catcher and eye holder. The selfie seems to...

South Park Animism
South Park is a Television show that is featured on Comedy Central. This show
follows four friends; Eric Cartman, Kyle Broflovski, Stan Marsh, and Kenny
McCormick as they grow and develop through adolescents in the small town of
South Park, Colorado. Eric is an obese little bully, Kyle is a religious kid, Stan is
an average kid, and Kenny is a poor kid. These children are faced with the common
challenges that adolescences go through, of developing and growing up. The children
come into many different interactions with all kinds of people and creatures in the
show. The boys are in the third grade for the first few seasons but then they move on
to the fourth grade in later seasons. Although these children are around the age of

This consists of asking a lot of questions to know answers, and centration. In almost
every episode they children have questions that they ask their cafeteria worker,
Chef. Chef is asked questions about sex, relationships, drugs, and many other
explicit questions that are hard for him to answer; especially since they are a bunch
of third graders. Chef answers the questions to the best of his ability, but sometimes
it just is not enough for the children and they want Chef to explain it more. Chef
usually sends the children off to their parents to ask the question to, in fear that he
may lose his job by answering their questions. The children also display centration.
Vurillot says that children at young ages focus on one characteristic of others
(1959). In the episode Here Comes the Neighborhood from season five episode
twelve, a new family moves to South Park. This new kid s name is Token. He and his
family are the richest people in South Park. The children make fun of Token
because he is rich. Token is a normal kid that just wants to play and to enjoy the
luxuries of being a kid. However, the children are unable to get past the fact that he
is rich, so they do not play with him. This leads to Token paying families to come
live in South Park, so he can have friends to play with. The other children begin to
realize that Token is a normal kid just like them and they get
The Geological And Geographical Conditions That Set The...
Chapter 1
1)Describe the geological and geographical conditions that set the stage for North
American history. In the geological aspect, the Native Americans that tended to the
land did not aggressively control the land leaving rich soil for the incoming
Europeans to later on control. But they also burnt down many trees to create living
spaces for the tribes. Geographically it was good for the Europeans because it was by
the water and all the rocks underneath the top layer of soil were rich for farming.
2) Describe the origin and development of the major Indian cultures of the Americas.
The Indian Tribes like the Aztecs and the Incas were very infamous for working the
fields, like taking care of corn and crops, which later reached the Southwest first and
later on North America. This led to the cultivation of beans and maize in the
southwest which inevitably started farming in America.
3) Explain the developments in Europe and Africa that led up to Columbia s voyage
to America. Because Spain and Portugal were rivals, they were always trying to out
beat each other. Since the Portuguese set up trading posts in Africa first, other
European countries started and later on Spain set up posts too. Because the
Portuguese didn t like taking water routes, it took them longer to get to India through
land to get spices and jewels. While this was happening, the Spanish people became
unified and seeing that they were now stronger, planned to outstrip their rivals of the

New Methods Of Appetite Control
In recent years, a variety of new methods of appetite control have been marketed to
consumers, both in America and around the globe. There are a variety of different
methods, as well, ranging from pure diet and exercise to extreme options like the
roux en y gastric bypass, meant to prevent absorption of many nutrients by our
system. Recently, however, a breakthrough drug has been discovered that mimics
the effects of gastric bypass in the sense that it practically reduces the size of the
stomach without the risks and dangers of surgery and the potential for
complications from the gastric bypass procedure. This new drug has been found
effective in small research studies to work with the body to reduce the amount of
food eaten, rather than by limiting the absorption of food in the digestive tract.
With the successes that have been seen in preliminary research, a grant was given
to commission this study, which will examine on a far larger scale whether the
relationships that were found in preliminary research will stand up when the drug is
given to a much larger sample group. The methodology for this experiment is
relatively simple, although for the sake of thoroughness, does need to explain in
order to fully understand the scope of the proposed study. The first thing that needs
to be discussed is the selection of our participants. While it is possible to gather
information by randomly selecting people to participate in this study, the results need
to be as accurate as

United States Mint Act Essay
The United States Mint is responsible for producing and circulating all coinage for
use in economic trade or commerce. However, few are actually aware of the history
behind this financial intuition. In the beginning of America s days as a colony, each
state produced its own currency or accepted foreign coins as a means of payment.
Massachusetts was the first of the colonies to produce a paper currency, which later
gave rise to Continental Currency in an effort to finance the Revolutionary War.
However, these paper notes had no solid backing of any kind other than predicted
taxes revenue collected from each colony. In 1781, The Continental Congress sought
to increase confidence in its currency through the establishment of The Bank of North
America in Philadelphia, which was then the capital. The printing of moneywas left to
private banks who printed notes of all kinds. As a result, paper notes and coins were
easily counterfeited. Silver bullion coins were easily pressed and engaged with
images and the exchange rate varied throughout each colony.... Show more content on

In 1792, Congress passed the Mint Act in order to establish the United Mint under
the Department of State and give this financial intuition the authority to produce
coinage on a national level. This legislation served to invalidate the various forms of
colonial coinage as a legal tender. The act gave birth to a copper one cent coinand
established a decimal system for which coins and dollars could be converted. Gold
and silver were proportionally valued at fifteen units of silver to one unit of gold.

the wealthiest 1 percent of Americans control 35.6 percent of the total wealth in
America. It goes on to state that the richest 10 percent of Americans control 75

Look at it this way, if we were to only teach Protestantism in school, Mormons
would get mad, along with Catholics. That s why we teach no religion in school, so
that no one religion is above the other. We have to be able to settle politics in this
similar way, to not make decisions unfairly based on religion. No religion should
be used in politics. We have to slowly, carefully wean ourselves off of it. And guess
what? It s already happening. Religious affiliation has dropped 15 percentage
points in the last 5 years among Americans 30 years or younger. What we truly need
is the separation of church and state, and it s happening in a way none of us
anticipated. One fifth of America already identifies as none on religious surveys.

Vengeance At Wuthering Heights, By Emily Bronte
Vengeance at Wuthering Heights
Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte, includes character with vengeful motivations
during two generations of conflict. The novel exhibits vengeance by Heathcliff
towards several people, but his main motives are towards Edgar Linton, who married
Catherine Linton, when Heathcliff loved Catherine. Mr. Heathcliff s evolving
vengeance started with Hindley Earnshaw, Catherine s brother. Edgar Linton
despised Heathcliff due to talking harsh to his wife and his daughter. While there are
several conflicts in the story, the main conflict is the rivalry between Heathcliff and
Edgar Linton. The vengeance Heathcliff seeks towards the Lintons is caused by his
love for Catherine Earnshaw, who later becomes Catherine Linton Senior. Heathcliff
basically kidnaps both Cathy and Nelly in order to have Linton Heathcliff,
Heathcliff s son, to wed Cathy Junior, ... As to your promise to marry Linton, I ll
take care you shall keep it: for you shall not quit this place till it is fulfilled.(Bronte

seeks revenge for Hindley treating him harshly after Hindley became master of

  • 2. How Did Aron Ralston Survive Forty Hours Have you ever gone climbing and got stuck for 5 days and 7 hours?Do you think you could survive these harsh conditions? Over many years of Aron Ralston s life he has been rock climbing but on this mundane climb, something really bad went wrong. He explains everything in the book Between A Rock And A Hard Place. Over these few days while he was stuck, he had to grow in not only his physical state but also in his mental state. If the situation wasn t bad enough, he only has his left arm that he can use and has a limited supply of food and water. Throughout the whole book Aron Ralston has shown growth to the readers like this evidence states Its 7 a.m i ve been stuck here for forty eight hour and have been sleep deprived for forty hours, Forty hours without adequate... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I can t really see how that would say he didn t grow in his abilities just because he couldn t get him arm unstuck but i disagree. I would think that amputating your own arm would have to take a lot of mental growth than just getting in unstuck, just thinking about it makes my body tingle. I believe he made the best decision and also in the process made him grow a lot in his abilities. I believe that he was just like a wd in a garden because of how fast he grew in his abilities and made the best out of what he had. In conclusion I believe that the character of the book Between A Rock And A Hard Place Had overall grown in his mental and physical state not only because he had a limited supply of food and water but because he had mostly thought about the good things in his situation. In his situation he had to work with what he had and he ended up overall getting out of the situation pretty well compared to being dead if he had not learned all the new information I believe that he would of been dead. Just think of how you do everything in your like and you make one little mistake how much it could cost
  • 3. Supernatural Aid In Le Morte D Arthur What is a supernatural aid? According to gordannapier.com, a supernatural aid is defined as help given to the hero from someone who is endowed with abilities beyond the normal. They may or may not give the hero some talisman to help him on the journey. Merlin from Le Morte D Arthur is a supernatural aid who circumlocutory helps the hero by using his abnormal abilities to protect and give advice. Merlyn from from The Once and Future Kingis also a supernatural aid who uses his anomalistic abilities to protect and give advice, but he directly helps the hero. Both stories involve supernatural aids, but each help the hero in a contradistinctive way. Although Merlinappears as Arthur s metaphysical aid in both Le Morte D Arthur and The Once and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To illustrate, Merlyn had remembered to give him the proper smell for the nest for if he had smelled of any other nest, they would have killed him at once. This illustrates how Merlyn protected Arthur by equipping him with essential aromas to avoid injuries or ruination. Lastly, Merlin in Le Morte D Arthur protects Arthur by causing the Archbishop to surround Arthur with knights until he is accepted. The author states, that we let purvey ten knights, men of good fame, and they to keep this sword which shows how Merlin counseled the Archbishop into providing protection for Arthur. Nevertheless, Merlyn in The Once and Future King protects Arthur by removing Arthur and transforming him back before the ants go to war. To further illustrate, The horrible armies were on the point of joining battle, to dispute the imaginary boundary between their glass trays when Merlyn came to be there. As far as protection, Merlin in Le Morte D Arthur provides indirect protection through others; whereas, Merlyn in The Once and Future King provides more direct or hands on advice. Direct protection, in my opinion, is better than indirect protection because it is more reliable, and it goes through less people which lessens the chance of alterations. Second of all, both Merlin in Le Morte D Arthur and Merlyn from The Once and Future King provide advice. Merlin in

The subjects for this study will be undergraduate students enrolled in either Introduction to Chemistry, a natural science, or General Psychology, a social science, at the University of Arkansas in Spring 2018. Students will enroll in courses based on their own academic preferences. These courses are both scheduled for 50 minute discussion sections that meet two days a week (TTh) from either 9:30 10:20 or 10:30 11: 20. All identifying features of the student (e.g. names or student ID number) will be replaced with random 7 digit ID numbers that the researchers will assign to each student on the first day of the course. The condition each identification number is in will not be revealed until the experiment has concluded and the data is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Researchers will also be analyzing if the type of course, natural science or social science, will alter the note taking technique that has the highest scores. Type of course will also be a between subjects variable. Materials required will include in class assignments related to the lecture materials. Each in class assignment will consist of ten questions that are easy to answer if the student was attending to what the professor was saying. All students will require a laptop or paper notebook to take notes on. The classrooms necessary will be smaller rooms with a maximum of 40 seats per room. This small size is necessary so the research assistants can ensure each student is using the correct method. Additionally, one experimental condition will require the use of the app StayFocusd from Transfusion Media (2010) which allows its users to temporarily block access to user specified apps for a designated amount of time. This experiment will require the use of four research assistants. Two of these assistants will be placed in the classroom to ensure students are using the appropriate method. The remaining two research assistants will be in the lab processing and configuring the data for the results of the experiment. Different researchers will be used to compute the data than those who are in the classrooms to eliminate any chance of experimenter bias. Lastly, the professors will be designing and distributing the in class assignments. Procedure Students
  • 5. Serving Lunch For School Children Essay Serving lunch to school children began with private organizations making donations to a handful of schools. In the peak of the 20th century, concern over children s nutrition caused balanced meals to be provided to students during their lunch hour. Philadelphia began to serve lunches for one cent in 1894. Eventually their penny lunch program was extended to eight other schools throughout the city. In January 1910, schools in Boston began serving lunch to elementary schoolstudents three days a week. On the other days, a simple meal of milk and sandwiches was served. Since there was no lunchroom in the building, students would eat at their desks (Avey, 2015). At long last, the school lunch program was made official in 1946 when President Harry Truman signed the National School Lunch Act. The National School Lunch Act of 1946 states: It is hereby declared to be the policy of Congress, as a measure of national security, to safeguard the health and well being of the Nation s children and to encourage the domestic consumption of nutritious agricultural commodities and other food, by assisting the States, through grants in aid and other means, in providing an adequate supply of food and other facilities for the establishment, maintenance, operation and expansion of nonprofit school lunch programs (Avey, 2015). Unfortunately, the school lunch program made little progress after that. Without any sort of guarantee of the success of the school lunch program in the years ahead,
  • 6. Rigel And Deimos Creation Story Originally there were two brothers ,Rigel and Deimos. Rigel, the God of stars, and Deimos, the God of the planets, battled for the right to claim the sun as their own. The sun was not just another empty void waiting to be filled with life, it was the most beautiful thing ever to exist. The radiant sun was in fact a woman an oddity. Her name was Melea. Rigel wanted the sunas a star and Deimos wanted it as a planet. Deimos wanted to cripple Rigels power so he created a black hole to absorb his stars and temporarily weaken his brother. Rigel, sullen by his brother s actions, conjured all of his remaining power and shot down a shooting star to his brother s planet Kai. As they grew up, their ability to utilize and apply their elemental powers became phenomenal. They showed that they were truly prodigies. But amidst all of this Terra and Astraea contested to marry Ignis. Ignis resided in his home, which happened to be a volcano. The two Goddesses came to prove their worth to the God, but were evenly matched. The Ignis decided that a battle would suffice for his hand. The goddesses gathered at the top of the volcano and prepared to battle. As the battle began, Terra used her powers over the Earth to cast tremendous boulders at Astraea. As Ignis watched the giant rocks fly towards Astraea, he began to regret his decision. In an effort to save Astraea, he projected spirals of fire towards the boulders. The fire flew through the air just in time to destroy the boulders and save Astraea s life. Ignis was relieved, but before he had the chance to explain, Terra became a wave of anger . She flung bigger boulders faster than ever before. With only seconds until the rocks would impact Astraea, both Ignis and Astraea s powers of fire and spirit met the gigantic boulders. Never before had any three elements been combined. The elements fire, earth, and spirit unexpectedly soldered. After the smoke and ashes and cleared, the gods were amazed. Standing in front of them were two beings, that had never been created before. A woman and a man had been created from the three elements combining. The goddesses

Silence In Krapp s Last Tape Silence as a Character in Krapp s Last Tape Krapp, a cantankerous old man attempting to relive his best years by listening to a tape he recorded on his thirty ninth birthday in Beckett s Krapp s Last Tape , constantly pauses and allows silence to overwhelm him and his thoughts. By allowing the invasion of silence into the play, the spotlight is taken off of Krapp in a one man play supposedly about Krapp, as he cannot maintain controlat the most basic level. The play begins and concludes with silence, and therefore silence is the first characterthe audience meets in the play, demonstrating its importance in controlling Krapp and his actions through the story. Throughout the play, silence constantly appears, whether in namesake or in the form of relentless pauses in Krapp s speech, and dominates Krapp and his language. Krapp, in constantly submitting to the ever present enemy of silence, demonstrates that he has no control over the story that is supposed to center around himself, and that silence is the character to overwhelm Krapp because it represents his fundamental flaw, his loneliness. The play opens on stage directions describing Krapp s den, and does not introduce the only material character in the story until four lines in (247). When Krapp, the main character, is introduced and described as an unkempt man, it is revealed immediately that he cannot take care of himself. Although the play is focused around and named after Krapp, he cannot hold attention upon

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Clutch COMPARISON OF MECHANICAL AND THERMAL PROPERTIES OF CLUTCH FACINGS MADE UP OF KEVLAR49/EPOXY RESINE AND BIODEGRADABLE COCONUT SHELL/COIR/EPOXY RESINE COMPOSITE MATERIALS Dr. K.Arunachalam, Department of Automobile Engineering, Associate Professor, MIT Campus, Anna University, Chennai G.Sundara pandian, PG Student, Department of Automobile Engineering, MIT Campus, Anna University, Chennai Abstract Looking back at the history of the clutch facing, it becomes apparent that the technological advancement of the clutch has had very little impact on clutch facing technology. Earlier asbestos was used as friction material in single plate dry friction clutch. Asbestos is hazardous to human health and detrimental to environment. So recently kevlar49/Epoxy material is used as friction material. But it has its own disadvantages. So it is time to consider use of any other environment friendly and non hazardous friction material as clutch facing material. One option is to use Natural Fibre / Epoxy resine composite as new... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clutch Facing Clutch facing is the heart of clutch assembly which actually transmits power from engine to transmission or drive shaft. It is a friction surface which binds face plate of fly wheel and pressure plate of clutch assembly. A major benefit to using a lining or facing is that it prevents metal to metal contact within the clutch set, resulting in less wear and tear on the clutch components. Clutch facings tend to have mid level coefficients of friction, and are responsible for removing most of the clutch vibrations from the engine. They also aid in allowing engines to achieve high speeds without damaging the components. Fig.1 Clutch Facing 3. Desirable Characteristics of Dry Clutch Facings Clutch friction linings are subjected to severe rubbing so that generation of heat in relatively short periods takes place. Therefore, the lining material should have a combination of the following properties to withstand the operating

  • 11. Major Problems Of Urban Transport 3. Major problems of urban transport Kuala Lumpur is not always considered as a megacity for its scale and population. However, its urban area and urban population density can be compared to many metropolitans in the Global North. Being a motor dominated city with high population density, rapid economy growth, and a rather small scale, Kuala Lumpur is facing its own problems of urban transport. (1) Kuala Lumpur has one of the lowest public transport passenger amount levels in Asia due to the rising ownerships and usage rate of private cars. The recently launched Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2020 revealed that only 20 percent of total Kuala Lumpur passenger movements take place by public transport while 80 percent by private transport (Kuala Lumpur City Hall. Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2020, 2004). The public transportation has modern facilities, but with the poor system and low quality service, therefore, more and more people are shifting from public transport to private cars and motors. Although the local government made efforts to introduce rails as public transport in the 1980s, expecting to slow down the speed of increasing motor vehicles, their popularity remained (Aldukali et al, 2011). The low efficiency also contributes to the shift. The buses and metros always arrive late, consuming more time for passengers to travel from house to work, which in turn further aggravates the low usage rate. (2) The increasing car ownerships number causes the rising demand

Joseph Conrad is a master of the English language and human thought alike, his written work serving as living evidence of how well Conrad s mind allowed him to construct such powerful imagery and word play from a language that he had not fully grasped himself until he was an older man. Originating in Polish Ukraine, Conrad was born in 1857 as a young man who dreamed much further than those living in his society, to leave his village to become a sailor and see all parts of the world. His family was very against this idea, as he would likely never be welcomed back to his home country. Leo Gurko discusses in the second chapter of his book, The Two Lives of Joseph Conrad, that his family was very regularly trying to talk Conrad out of being a sailor, as the country was in need of young working men and it would have been a betrayal to leave for his own interests, yet it did not stop his ambitions. CHAPTER 3 A DECISION TREE BASED RULE FORMATION WITH COMBINED PSO GA ALGORITHM FOR INTRUSION DETECTION SYSTEM 3.1INTRODUCTION The increase in the usage of the computer networks leads to the huge rise in the threat and attacks. These attackers change, steal and destroy the valuable information and finally cause complete damage to the computer system of the victim. They affect the performance of the computer system through the misconfiguration activities and generation of software bugs from internal and external networks. Irrespective of the existence of various security mechanism, attackers often attempt to harm the computer system of the intended legitimate users. Hence, security is a main factor for the efficient operation of the network in various applications such as healthcare monitoring, military surveillance, etc. The most common security mechanisms are firewalls, antivirus programs and Intrusion Detection System (IDS). Firewalls (Fehr, 2013) are the commonly used mechanism for securing the corporate network or sub network. The firewall is operated based on a set of rules that can protect the system from the flooding attacks. The main function is sorting of the packets according to the allow/deny rules, based on the header filed information. But the firewalls cannot ensure complete protection of an internal network, since they are unable to stop the internal attacks. The computer viruses can cause damage to the computer data that leads to the complete failure of the

The accusers claim that the human body and soul were viewed as completely separate; consequently, their relationship as such and the united being of man become incomprehensible. It can only be properly understood, I believe, in connection with the emergence in the modern world of certain modes of intersubjective life, such as communication in the scholarly and academic environments. To this end, I will call attention to one the most serious accusations levelled at Descartes and the entire modern philosophy, i.e. the dualism 106 Ећtefan Afloroaei / Descartes and the metaphysical dualism of substances : the human body and soul have been understood as being two completely separate substances. Consequently, both the relationship between them and man s lived presence would have become totally incomprehensible. It was claimed that this dualism of substances was the unmistakable symptom of metaphysical thought, which would possibly mean that the very presence of metaphysics is indicative of a serious case of misapprehension or deviation1. However, the very idea of Cartesian dualism may be viewed as a locus obscurus in the philosophical thought. It is an obscure place not only because it has been inadequately examined or debated. Rather because recent history has accepted it completely as the symbolic thesis of a whole tradition of thought. Therefore, it is not surprising to find references

Justin Trudeau was the best choice Canadians could make in terms of electing a new Prime Minister. Many past leaders of the Liberal Party of Canada can be held accountable for great change, such as Lester B. Pearson commissioning a search for a new flag, Pierre Trudeau(Justin Trudeau s father) creating the Official Languages Act and Mackenzie King instituting a national old age pension plan. Justin Trudeau is also considerate of the citizens of Canada; this is evident based on his opposition of the Northern Gateway Pipeline and outspoken support for the middle class throughout his candidacy. Personal Values Statement On My Inner Self Personal Values Statement In understanding oneself it is often difficult to remain truthful and unbiased when analyzing our deficiencies and strengths. Nonetheless, on an opposing continuum one faces modesty and simplification in the analyses of the previously mentioned traits. The following self observation aims to reach an equilibrium in learning about my inner self. I have always considered myself a kind person. As an example; on a drive back home from Minnesota I stopped at a rest stop where a mother along with her children were having car troubles. I offered to help and drive to nearest auto part store and purchase a torn radiator hose for her, being that I am also familiar with cars I also replaced the hose for them before I left the rest stop. A second trait that I hold is being happy. As the old saying goes; there is no sense in crying over spoiled milk. During my last year in high school I made some bad choices, which mainly involved skipping classes more than I should have. The preceding caused a postponement in my graduating in May, having to be moved to December. Nonetheless, I managed to graduate not only from High School but College as well; being happy all the way through. The one thing that I aspire to the most is personal growth in the area of knowledge and academics. I believe this comes about from a genuine passion for helping others and practicing benevolence. One might ask how the preceding to circumstances correlate and I believe that in order for

Food Security Movement And The Global Food Supply Initiatives Large businesses dominate our local and global food systems controlling most of production, processing, distribution, marketing and retailing of food. This gives big businesses the power to eliminate competition and dictate their own terms to their suppliers forcing farmers and consumers into poverty and malnutrition. As a result, movements such as food security, global foodsupply initiatives and Food Sovereignty have been created to combat the damage big corporations have caused on farmers and communities. The food security movement and the global food supply initiatives both strive for safe and adequate amount of food to be available to communities to reduce povertyand malnutrition on a global scale. However, both differ in that food security pushes for the right for all people to have physical, social and economic access to safe, adequate and nutritious food for an active and healthy life (ACIAR, Food Security and why it matters , 2012) whereas, the global food supply initiative leans more towards improvements in food safety management systems to have all consumers access to safe food. (Buhot) On that note, a third relatively new movement has been created called food sovereignty which presents a broader concept and solutions on solving problems of hunger and malnutrition. Food sovereignty focuses on the right of peoples, communities and countries to define their own agricultural, labour, fishing, food and land polices which are ecologically, socially, economically and

However, few are actually aware of the history behind this financial intuition. In the beginning of America s days as a colony, each state produced its own currency or accepted foreign coins as a means of payment. Massachusetts was the first of the colonies to produce a paper currency, which later gave rise to Continental Currency in an effort to finance the Revolutionary War. However, these paper notes had no solid backing of any kind other than predicted taxes revenue collected from each colony. In 1781, The Continental Congress sought to increase confidence in its currency through the establishment of The Bank of North America in Philadelphia, which was then the capital.
