Abstract:
Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844 1889) was held to be a priestly metaphor of Victorian Poetryand a
syntactical simile of Modern Poetry. He had prophetically been in search of the authentic cadence
that paved the way for his spiritual fulfillment. Hopkins motivation is to know God; therefore, ...

Mounted in the scarlet he saw the world and worded it in his poems, never blurring its hard
actuality, but never debasing to mere actuality its ultimately mysterious news of God. As an
incomprehensible certainty he reverenced God, and in his best works every aspect of poetic
language incarnates without limiting that inscrutable yet intensely distinct mystery that formed the
center of his life and faith. Thus, from the very initial stage of his poetic journey Hopkins has
searched out the authentic cadence of life that is, Love is God, and God is Love. Thereafter, this
biblical cadence God is Love (cfJN 3.16) nurtures Hopkins thoughts and emotions throughout his
life. He exclaims with delight;
Love I was shewn upon the mountain side And bid to catch Him ere the drop of day See, Love, I

The Plot Of Dorothy Gale, An Orphan, And Her Dog Toto
The plot revolves around Dorothy Gale, an orphan, and her dog Toto. They live with her Aunt
Em and Uncle Henry, and three farm hands, in Kansas. Initially, the film is not in color and
depicts a drab and colorless environment. Her dog bites a neighbor, Almira Gulch, who gets

return home just as a tornado strikes. Shen she arrives at home, everyone is in the storm cellar,
she cannot get in so she goes to the house when the tornado takes it into the sky. It seems that this
is where her dream begins since she see many things that are not physically likely; Gulch riding a
bicycle and turning into a witch, two men rowing a boat, a older lady in a rocking chair knitting,
and several farm animals. She lands in Muhchkinland in Oz where she opens the door and sees the
land in color. She begins her quest to return home, directed by the Muhckins to take the Yellow
Brick Road to Oz and the Wizard. The lead characters as she encounters along the way many
characters that seem to have relationships with her waking life including; 1.Muchkins (small and

Custody Of Child Custody
INTRODUCTION
Marriage is a union of two humans. More often than not marriages result in children. Some might
even say reproduction is main aim and objective of the union through marriage. Parents take
immense care of their children; they put them on a pedestal and dedicate their entire lives to the
upbringing of their children.
But what happens in cases of divorce? When parents have exceeded their threshold and divorce is
inevitable the settlement of child custody is very important. When we use the term custody we must
understand its legal meaning. Custody of a child, when parents divorce, only implies as to who the
child will physically reside with. Both parents continue to be natural guardians. The custodial parent
will be the primary caretaker ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By saying that older children are given the choice of custody the court does not neglect the
welfare of the child aspect. Even though the courts believe that male children of age sixteen years
and above and female children of age fourteen years and above should not be compelled to live in
a custody they dislike it is also important that this factor alone cannot determine the custody of the
children. This is because in Venkataramma v. Tulsi the court found that the wishes of the children
are found to be induced by persuasion and even torture in some cases.
Other than these, in certain exceptional cases it is noted that the custody of minor children may be
granted to third persons if that is what the welfare of the child requires. In Baby v. Vijay, granting
custody of two minor children to their maternal grandfather, the court observed that, even if the
father is not found unfit, custody might be given to a third person in the interest of welfare of the

Heartbreak. Perversion. Death. These are all products of the seclusion in the city of Oran. Albert

perversion and rebellion stick out significantly a midst the rest in the lives of Doctor Bernard

Essay Comparing An Invitation To A Murder
The passage An Invitation to a Murder written by Josh Pachter, included a variety of similarities
and differences to the drama The Dying Detective written by Arthur Conan Doyle. Josh Pachter
described the scene of the gathering for the murder a locked room mystery. Furthermore, the
poison that killed Mrs. Abbott was in a medicine bottle; however, the poison that killed Victor
Savage was from an ivory box. In contrast, the poison that murdered Victor Savage was presented
in an ivory box. Moreover, the mood articulated in An Invitation to a Murderwas happy for the
reason that Mrs. Abbott thought life would be improved after her husband s death. Conversely, the
mood in The Dying Detective was sorrowful as everyone suspected Sherlock... Show more content

In The Dying Detective, it explained that Sherlock Holmes was literally dying from the prick of
poison. To add, it explained that Mr. Culverton Smith was an expert on the poison that was
injected into the ivory box; later we learned that Mr. Culverton Smith was indeed the one who
injected it into the box in the first place. In An Invitation to a Murder, the crossbones on the
prescription medication was believed to be a symbol of poison. Additionally, all of the supplies on
the center of the table were items that would typically kill a person; yet, none of those belongings
killed Mr. Abbott. Furthermore, both stories were premeditated murders. Mrs. Abbott knew that the
twelve intelligent inspectors would prevent her from giving her husband the suspicious medication.
Therefore, Mr. Abbott s heart would stop beating and he would eventually die. On the other hand,
Sherlock Holmes planned out every detail of the situation and what would happen. He knew that
Dr. Watson would be concerned about Mr. Culverton Smith arriving and would like to stay. This
created a witness for Mr. Culverton Smith confessing the crime he committed. Lastly, both of the
passages had evidence that exemplified situational irony. Mrs. Abbott was dressed in black to
grieve the death of herself and her disabled husband. Moreover, the investigators that were going to
witness the murder, became the murderers. In the other story,

United States Involvement In World War I
The United States should have entered World War I.
The main reason why the United States should have entered World War I is because they needed
to defend their people. According to Source 1, President Woodrow Wilson claimed that the U.S.
should join the war in response to the sinking of the Lusitania ship. In his speech to Congress on
April 2, 1917, he claimed, American ships have been sunk, American lives taken...the lives of
peaceful and innocent people cannot be. He confirmed that the U.S. was being attacked and many
American lives lost. Therefore, fighting for the tranquility of U.S. citizens, by joining the war, was
in the best interest.
The United States land was very valuable and needed to be protected from other countries
attempting to invade. According to Source 2, the Zimmerman Telegraph that was sent by the
Germans to the Mexicans proposed an alliance. In return, Germany offered Mexico financial
support and would help them reconquer the lost territory in New Mexico, Texas, and Arizona. Due
to the fact that the United States s land was at risk of being invaded, it should take caution and
protect its territory and citizens from this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, If it had an unstable economy, it could lead to a nationwide depression. Along these
lines, the Germans planned to place heavy tolls on American trade, while the British were
responsible for negatively impacting the ability of American goods to enter neutral ports with
immense taxes. Although the British justified that these charges were for the safety [their] country,
in actuality, this major action must have been a target to the United States. The data shows that the
United States s trade expenses skyrocketed from 1913 (before the change) to 1914 (after the
change.) Because of these unfair taxes on the United States, it needed to ensure that their economic

To Intermittent Fast, or not to Intermittent Fast, that is the question
Have you ever heard of intermittent fasting? Could you have ever imagined that not eating
breakfast could bring you untold health benefits? Chances are you never came across intermittent
fasting, well; trust me I guarantee you are missing out if you are unaware of it. By the end, of this
article I am certain you will understand what intermittent fasting is and why it is so popular.
What is intermittent fasting?
Intermittent fasting, (also called periodic fasting PF) is a type of eating pattern used by
professionals and beginners all over the world to reduce fat percentage, increase growth hormone
concentration in the body and simply spend less time cooking. Contrary ... Show more content on

Intermitting fasting does unfortunately cause some people to get fatigued especially if they are
new to intermittent fasting therefore, I recommend people to not endure with intermitting fasting
every day to prevent you getting tired , underperforming when training and reduce muscle growth.
I also do not recommend enduring with intermitting fasting if you are over the age of 50 or if your
body is still developing physically (children and teenagers) to prevent any potential growth side
effects.
Advantages of Occlusion training
Now moving onto the advantages, one of PF s best benefits is the fact that you will dramatically
boost fat burning throughout your body, this is because when you eat food your body spends
couple of hours changing the food into simpler nutritional units such as amino acids and simple
sugars. Therefore when you are in a normal eating schedule, your body will actually use the food
you ate throughout the day or the past hours to provide itself with energy and other required
nutrients and vitamins. Although if you are in a fasted state your body will not have the option
to use food as an energy source and will be forced to use the fat storage around your body (
including stubborn visceral fat ) to provide your muscles and other parts of your body with the
required energy , nutrients and vitamins. This will lead to a

Section Two: Key Dynamics and Players Involved
Upon arrival on February 27th, Yoav Galant, Minister of Construction, stressed the utmost
importance of eliminating the housing crisis in Israel. Galant offered the proposal of Mordot
Arnona where there would be 2000 new housing units that will aid growing populations inside the
new territory added to Jerusalem. (Powerpoint for Ministry of Construction, February 27 Minutes)
This suggestion worried the Minister of Internal Security, Gilad Erdan, because of its capability to
threaten the security of Israel. Galant s reasoning behind this proposal is the expansion of housing
in Jerusalem. The neighborhood will allow for the continuation of growth and development,
providing for the housing demand. With this implemented, it will strengthen Jerusalem as the
capital. The lack of housing is one of the highest concerns for Galant. On the basis of needing
250,000 houses due to a shortage of housing, there was a 75% increase in housing costs from
2008 2015. Galant proposed the annexation of areas E1 and Ma ale Adumim located East of
Jerusalem in order to create more space to distribute housing. Over

The term roaring twenties is used by most of the American population referring to the 1920s during
a time of unrelenting economy growth which characterized the distinctive cultural edge of the
decade (Out of Many, p. 598). This roaring decade experienced significant economic growth with
prosperity by the recovery from devastating wartime, a boom in the construction sector and
increased growth of the consumer goods like vehicles and electric energy.
The United States economy had successfully shifted from one of wartime to one of peacetime

The automobile industry realized a great demand that brought about mass production that led
technology to become reasonably priced for the middle class (Out of Many, p. 603). New

cities like those in the Great Lake Region and Midwest like Chicago and Toronto. Many countries

Canada, the US and major European countries.
In 1920 the 19th Amendment was passed giving women voting rights. There was political equality
for American women after they had fought for a long time. There was a distinct gap between
women of 1920s and the other women in previous generations. Feminists always thought women
could not take both a career and family matters successfully (Out of Many, p. 608). This perception
began to take another different direction as more women desired successful careers but also

Analysis of The One Minute Manager by Kenneth Blanchard and Spencher Johnson The One
Minute Manager by Kenneth Blanchard, Ph.D. and Spencer Johnson, M.D., seems like a
practical simple plan on managing people and there for other areas of one s life, however I must
admit I am a little skeptical. The three philosophies do make sense especially once analogies are
used to put them into more simple terms. Being in the work forcefor more than fourteen years I

and managers who fit somewhere in between. My skepticism with this theory is simply applying
its use. On paper this method sounds great and makes a lot of key points, but again after... Show

The One Minute Praising is a pleasant philosophy. As a manager tell the employee up front that
they will receive updates on their performance. Give your employee praising every time he or
she does something right to point them in the direction of the ultimate goal. Specify what they
did right and how it made you feel. A moment of silence should then be kept to give off your
good feeling. This concept teaches the employee how to praise him or herself. The praising is
followed up by a handshake or physical gesture to show you support their success.
I agree the more you praise the individual the closer they are to praising themselves. When people
feel good about themselves and the work they perform, it makes them want to do better. I could
be categorized as one of those people. My performance reviews have always been happy times
for me. After going over my review, I find myself on a high for weeks. My boss will then critique
me on something that was not done right and I go into I don t care mode. I get defensive and my
attitude reflects in my work. It takes longer for me to accomplish that task and I do not put as
much effort into it as when I am feeling good. Giving praise gets people in the routine of praising
themselves. I have a habit of patting myself on the back when I feel I have done a good job or
figured out a solution to a problem that

Overview of the Book What this book provides is a case study about the effects of nuclear
radiation on the environment and the people of Marshall Island. Furthermore, the book addresses
the various socio economic issues arising from the testing of nuclear weapons by the US in the
Pacific island between 1946 and 1958 (Barker, 2012). The author has gone to great lengths to
discuss how the government of the US has evaded moral responsibility for exposing thousands of
people to harmful radiations. Using a combination of research, life history, and archival research,
Barker has constructed a compelling history of the dangers of the testing program from the
perspective of the Marshallese people and their government. Although the US has long... Show

In total, sixty seven tests were conducted in Marshall Island starting from 1946 until 1958. These
tests resulted in devastating effects on the lives of the people of Marshall Island. The
environment was also affected adversely because of the radiation. In 1979, the US allowed
Marshall Island to become a sovereign nation. However, agreements were signed that allowed
the US to continue the island as a missile site. It can be noted that Marshall Island consists of
over ten thousand small islands spread over a vast area of the ocean. The US forcefully
displaced all the people living in some of the islands to pave the way for the deadly nuclear tests.
In one of these tests, the US exploded the most powerful atomic device in its arsenal. So
powerful were most of these tests that the ensuing fireballs could be seen with the naked eye
from hundreds of miles away. The result was a massive destruction and contamination of the
islands in a scale that had never been experienced in any part of the world. Due to the dangers
facing the people of the island as a result of the radiations, various linguistic themes were
developed. These themes primarily focused on the impact of the tests on the people, their livestock
s, ways of life and the environment (Barker, 2012). The fact that a new linguistic system emerged
is sufficient proof that the tests had profound effects on the people. For example, the radiations
caused cancers and led to

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have completely opposite views on this issue. Hillary Clinton
wants to keep the rules on the National Security Agency. In other words, she wants to continue to
keep restrictions on the NSA by not letting them collect all phone data collection from the people in
the United States. Instead of the NSA retaining all of the data, phone companies will retain them.
When the NSA wants to collect any phone data about any individual, they are allowed to under
the consent of the federal court. This act that limits the NSA on the data that they are allowed to
collect is called the Patriot Act. In opposing views, Donald Trump wants to change the agreement
of what the NSA is allowed to do. Instead of keeping the restrictions on the NSA surveillance,
Donald wants to reduce the current limits on the NSA. As he has said, he supports reauthorizing
the patriot act. The way he looks to reduce the limits on the NSA is that the NSA would not have
to go to the federal court in order to retain any sort of phone record or data. Donald feels that the
NSA should not have restrictions on retaining phone data of the American people because of all the
threatening attacks that have gone through the phones. He wants to make sure that the United

Rhetorical Devices In American Pie

Essay 3
The song American Pie , by Don McLean, was a dominate rock and roll hit in 1971. McLean
illustrates famous rock star artist and songwriter Buddy Holly, who died in a plane crash in 1962 by
using rhetorical strategies. The different potential interpretations of this song made it one of the
most controversial songs from the 1970 s. McLean was hitting home with many emotional
resonances defining moments in the recent American experiences. American Piestarts out
addressing McLean love for music in the 50 s. During the 50 s, music was a tool for getting
people off their feet and on to the dance floors. And I knew if I had my chance, that I could make
those people dance, and maybe they d be happy for a while (McLean). This verse symbolizes why
he loves to create and perform for his fans. McLean then goes on to mention his mentor Buddy
Holly. But February made me shiver. With every paper, I d deliver. Shocking news on the
doorstep, I couldn t take one more step. I can t remember if I cried. When I read about his
widowed bride. But something touched me deep inside. The day the music died (McLean).
Buddy Holly died on February 3, 1959, in a plane crash. There are two theories on why the song
was called American Pie. It was rumored, American Pie was the name of the plane that took
Buddy Holly life. Also, someone refers it to a symbol of the beauty queen Miss America
(Morgan). Mclean remembered the paper boy delivering the morning paper and there on the
front page, was the story of the death of Buddy Holly. At the time Holly s wife was pregnant and
soon had a miscarriage afterward. McLean, he says he can t remember if he cried in the moment
or not. All this was in the first few verses in American Pie. McLean incorporated these lines of
imagery to help the listener picture his past emotional experiences. I believe McLean wanted to
paint a picture for his audience could relate to. During these times it was tough for McLean. Not
only did Buddy Holly die but also rock star legends Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper. For McLean
music died for him and the rest of the world.
American Pie not only pays tribute to three talented musicians but also

Why Atrial Fibrillation Occur
There no direct cause as why to atrial fibrillation occur but, there is many other disease and
disorders that Atrial Fibrillation is associated with. For example Atrial Fibrillation is closely
associated with heart attack due to the fact that a during a heart attack the coronary artery is unable
to supply oxygen to the heartwhich then causes the muscles in the heart to starve for oxygen. This
can then lead to the death of some muscle tissue in the heart which then can lead to AFib.
Hypertension also play a role in AFib, Hypertension (high bloodpressure) is a constant high pressure
of blood against the walls of the artery(arteries are the blood vessel that carry blood from the heart

Importance of proper leadership and management in every sphere of life cannot be disregarded.
Especially, when you are dealing with human ego, you need to consider every act of yours that can

responsibilities that you own when you are at certain designation of leadership or management. It is
evident that organizations where administration is poor have failed to groom and serve. For
example, bad attitude of hospital administration has resulted in patients avoiding to seek services
of health care and treatment properly, just because of fear of getting insulted by the rude
administrators. It s therefore required to safeguard patients right and provide services at their
disposal. This includes services like health information, accessible and affordable care, privacy,
gender equality, safety measures and so on. To accomplish such a sophisticated mission and to
avoid chaos, it requires clear understanding of what a leadership or management is.
Leadership refers to the act of leading an organization to get aid in getting a task completed. It
encompasses inspiring team and making it follow you. It encompasses innovation of ideas, deciding
a specified goal, clearing the vision of goal, communicating it to the team, making strategies to
accomplish task, getting around the resources, motivating team to work and most importantly

A Driver s License For Undocumented Immigrants
Secondly, by getting a driver s license, undocumented drivers will contribute to the State Revenue
through taxes and related market by expanding the insurance auto sales, the driving schools

free and full of opportunity to find a better life and future for themselves and their families. So,
having a driver s license will allow them to get more jobs and be more productive members in our
economy as a drivinglicense is required for many jobs in Massachusetts. Vermont issued driver s

illegally with tremendous benefits. Edmund Kozak, political reporter for lifezette.com in an article
on April 8, 2016 States to Illegal Aliens Welcome argued that unfortunately, many States have
decided to go into the business of encouraging illegal immigration. Some 605,000 of the roughly
1.4 million driver s license issue in California last year went to illegal aliens. Kozak said that the
cost of the processing of the new applicants is estimated at $ 141 million over three years. This
cost will be supported by the legal citizens of California because the State did not require those
undocumented to pay taxes. Undoubtedly, these allegations might be dictated by the stereotypes
which are used against undocumented immigrants, and unfortunately, many people are blinded by
the single story about these hardworking people. If legal citizens paid for the fees related to
driving licenses, why would it be different for undocumented drivers? If undocumented people
accepted to work and pay federal taxes without the same benefits as other legal workers, why
would they not pay for their driving license? In States that issue permits to undocumented aliens,
the policy has largely self funded; i.e., fees collected from applicants pay for the costs of issuing
the permit explained in the Boston Editorial Immigration has Nothing to do with Driving Skills.
Based on that, it is clear that the license would not be funded by the State but by the applicants
themselves.

Perches are very important for Congo African Grey parrots as they spend most of their time on
them, when they are not flying. The perches should be of varying diameters, though for a primary
perch, the Congo African Grey parrots feet should wrap about Вѕ of the way around the perch.
Perches set on opposite ends of the aviary or cage without obstacles in the way is a good idea as
it allows for flight. The perches should be made of varying materials (such as branches from safe
trees such as fruit trees, rope). The perches should be situated so that the parrot s tail does not hit the
bars. Perches should not be situated to allow access to the food and water dishes, but not over
them, as this can cause hygiene issues.
Congo African Grey parrots are social creatures, they need company of their same breed. To stop
breeding same sex birds can be kept together, or it can be discouraged by not providing a nesting
box. Veterinary advice should be sought if there is any help needed to stop the birds breeding.
Along with company, the Congo African Grey parrotneeds plenty of space to fly freely.
Congo African Grey parrots are incredibly intelligent birds, they need plenty of stimulation in the
form of interactive toys, puzzles, bells, and varied bird safe toys to keep them entertained. The
toys and puzzles should be sturdy enough and large enough for the Congo African Grey parrot to

America s Regional Division Is One Of A Kind
A majority of countries around the world are divided regionally, whether that be states or
provinces, and Canada s regional division is one of a kind. Regionalism in Canada is more

Canada. The strength of regionalism in Canadastems from its federal government system, Canada s

the provinces within Canada cover a very large area of land.
Canada is the second largest country in the world by land mass, yet it is the thirty eighth most
populous country in the world. What that ratio means is a significant distance between the
concentrated masses of people in Canada and the available resources from province to province
vary largely due to the considerable amount of land the provinces occupy. In British Columbia, the
geological make up consists of long coastal region, rainforests, and large mountain ranges, whereas
the province directly next to it is composed of flat fields and numerous pockets of oil. The
economy of each province thus relies on its natural resources, and the vast difference between each
province puts even more importance on the functioning of their respective provincial government.
The plethora of economic sources for each province is a lot to focus on for one central federal
government. A provincial government can pay attention more closely on their respective economic
sources, thus giving a provincial government more power and importance. The regional economies
created spur on cultures and lifestyles associated with it.

What Is The Role Of Kabuki
Kabuki (жЊи€
ћдјЋ) presents one of the most popular forms of traditional theatre in Japan with
roots tracing back to the Edo Period. The root of the word kabuki presents its definition clearly as it
contains three Chinese characters: ka means song, bu means dance and ki means prostitute. Hence
kabuki is the combination of music, dance and dialogues. The inventor of kabukiis one of the
dancers of Shinto temple, Okuni in 1603. Therefore kabuki used to be acted only by women till
1629. It involves elaborately designed costumes, eye catching make up, outlandish wigs, and
arguably most importantly, the exaggerated actions performed by the actors. Its plots are usually

Nowadays this form of performance is spread all over the world especially in European and
Western countries.
In the beginning women were active players of kabuki, but gradually it caused moral corruption in
the theatre. The government prevented women from taking part as actresses to elevate kabuki`s
level from sensuality to spirituality. As the result young men were replaced instead of women for
playing the feminine roles. This group of men was titled as Wakashu. However it was not a proper
solution since homosexuality appeared among actors. This absence of women was occurred in
Shakespearian dramas too as they considered them socially inferior with no right to participate in
public activities.
James. R. Brandon and Samuel .L. Leiter stated: It is commonly said that the chief aim of kabuki
is to be beautiful . The kabuki term`s homonym, kabukimono means the people who wore strange
costumes and passed the streets proudly, in the same way kabuki actors used odd cloths and make

Chamberlain s Policy Toward Germany
Appeasement is the term used to describe the foreign policies of the British Conservative
governments of Baldwin (1935 37) and Chamberlain (1937 40) and also those of France and
America to a lesser extent. Appeasement involved making concessions to the two main dictators of
Europe; Hitler and Mussolini.
Hitler broke many of the stipulations of the Treaty of Versailles, yet nothing active was done, there
was only spoken denunciation of his actions. Hitler stopped paying reparations in 1933. Hitler
began to openly rearm in 1935. Hitler sent troops into the Rhineland on 7 March 1936. He united

Britain was more worried about defending its empire and had been concerned about the threat
from Japan in the Far East. It could not deal with aggression from both Germany and Japan. In
economic terms, Britain was still suffering from the effects of the Great Depression and
Chamberlain was reluctant to spend vast sums of money on improving the country s armed

supported appeasement and there was a mood of pacifism. Chamberlain, as an elected
representative, was doing his job by representing the views of his people when considering foreign

Secondly, Chamberlain held a good view of Hitler and Germany. Chamberlain felt that the Treaty

In order to understand the present day accounting methods and principles of China and Japan it is

This method is a crude way for dealing with downside risk and illustrating losses soon.
Another approach which widely utilise in East Asian countries is income smoothing in order to
cope with uncertainties in accounting (People s Republic of China, 2001). This method stabilizes
earnings which is general involved in tempering the peaks and valleys to make stable. It usually
occurs in the performance of income measurements.
Both approaches can be considered as a long term performance, which is involved in Confucianism.
The suggestion of full disclosure of Chinese and Japanese financial report seems to attribute to the
concepts of honesty and truthfulness in the Confucianism. Unfortunately, honesty and truthfulness
does not occur in either country. In fact, they do not really accept the economic substance in their
accounting systems. They traditionally adhere to the pattern of legal form. In the accounting report,
they usually ignore the valuations of fair market. Instead, they focus on the historical costs.
However, substance over form is used when there is new accounting issued in China. Additionally
there is a hierarchical order, which means that people must consider relations, such as family
finances and business transactions exist in Chinese society (Tang, 2000). Confucianism ideals mean
that there are no accounting principles and no governmental supervising, but it does not exist in

Summary
Away in Airdrie Is a short story by James Kelman. ItВґs situated in Scotland and deals with football.
In the story we meet three characters. Danny, Uncle Archie, and Betty, Danny s mother. In this short
story, Danny is the narrator and we are reading the story from his point of view.
Danny is going to Airdrie along with his uncle Archie to watch Glasgow Rangers play at
Broomfield Park. Danny is ashamed of uncle Archie, who is an alcoholic football fan. Even
though he is irresponsible he is also really generous to Danny. The point of no return is where
Danny accepts to go to the cafГ© by himself, meanwhile Uncle Archie decides to go drink some

The conflict in the story starts the moment Uncle Archie decides to give nephew Danny tips to
buy cup of chocolate at a cafГ©, in the mean time Archie goes to a pub to get some beers. Archie
drinks, beer after beer and forgets all about time and Danny. Danny waits outside the pub and hopes
that Archie will come out, but it never happens, that s when Danny finally decides to head home.
Danny successfully getВґs on the right train, sadly it crashed.
ThatВґs the conflict and the way it got solved. Obviously this conflict isn t solved in the way it
should be, uncle Archie should definitely have had more self control. What Danny did was really
mature, but maybe he should have had tried calling his mom.
4. Is there a message in the story?
The message in the story is to always think of family above everything else, nothing should come
between a family and definitely not alcoholics. When an adult getВґs a responsibility (A kid in this
case) they should be more likely to understand that there would be nothing more important than the
responsibility. Uncle Archie forgets all about that when he goes to the pub to get something

Metalhead Subculture Research Paper
Heavy metal music has been around now for quite some time now and over the decades has been
collecting more and more enthusiasts. Within the heavy metal scene there are many different types
of groups and subcultures but really only two that stand out. One type of subculture within the
heavy metal industry is the true believers who trust in everything heavy metal has to offer and will
pride themselves on going against the norm and challenge society. The second type of subculture is
the one who enjoys the music and tends to be less intense when considering themselves as heavy
metal enthusiasts. The ladder of the two subgroups is pretty straightforward and can be understood
much easier than the former. The former subgroup, or the true believers... Show more content on

irresponsible they are. Some of these are about their driving skills such as being intoxicated or
driving at high speeds. Others are about their likeliness to try drugs, such as marijuana and/or
cocaine, or how they are more likely to vandalize property and shoplift. Some view that the genre
of heavy metal influences these actions and promotes violence, referring back to their slamdancing

Botswana, Africa. This subculture group is consistent of black Botswanans who take their heavy

Different Types Of Computer Protocols
A protocol is most simply defined as a standard. These standards define how computers are able
to communicate with each other. These standards are defined in documents called Request for
Comments( RFC ) which is a formal document from an organization known as the Internet
Engineering Task Force( IETF ). These documents are made publicly available so that any
program that needs to use these protocols are able to configure them properly so that it works
with all other programs that make use of the same protocol. There are thousands of protocols that
exist and many of them are very common and others are very seldom used. Some of the most
common protocols are HTTP/HTTPS, FTP, SMTP, IMAP, POP3, SSH and DNS. Many of these are
used almost every... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
POP3 is used when downloading an email from the email server to a client. IMAP functions
similarly to POP3 in that its function is very similar. It is used when downloading emails from
mail servers. There are a few differences between the two. With IMAP the mail client is synced
with the mail server. An example of this would be reading an email on a mail client( Outlook
Express ) and this change being reflected on the mail server. This differs from POP3 because
POP3 would not update the mail server, and the fact that the email was read would only be
visible on that mail client. The next protocol is very important and called Secure Shell( SSH ).
This protocol uses port 22 by default and is inc readably useful. Its intended purpose is to
connect to a host that has an SSH server running and open a remote shell that is encrypted. This
offers a lot of possibilities that make remote administration secure. One of the additional functions
that SSH provides is the ability to create tunnels. The amount of possibilities with SSH tunnels is
endless. It allows unencrypted protocols to pass through an encrypted tunnel and can repeated
several times over several hosts to further encapsulate and secure data. The final protocol listed is
the Domain Name Server. This protocol is used when a computer knows the domain name of a
server and not the IP address. Unfortunately computers are not able to put a domain name in a layer

The Lottery, And Mansfield s Third Person Perspectives
A story is never without a point of view a perspective in which the story is foretold. This
perspective can come in a variety of forms, from first person, second person, to third person, with
each shaping the specifics and details of the background or characters of the tale. Further broken
down into three categories is the third person perspective, which ranges from omniscient,
objective, to limited. To understand the impact the differences in third person perspectives can
make on a story and the reader s understanding of it, a closer look at the readings of Jackson s The
Lottery in third person objective and Mansfield s Miss Brill in third person omniscient is in order.
Overall, there s a similarity between the two perspectives in how they capture and convey obvious
information within the story. However, the distinct disparity between the two becomes rather
apparent as the actions of the characters become focused upon. Jackson, The Lottery. Third Person,
Objective. Kids receive rocks. Mansfield, Miss Brill. Third Person, Omniscient. Drawing
conclusions of individuals around her. Insight to her thoughts. Fundamentally, both the third person
objective and third person omniscient have the ability to describe the actions and outward
appearances of characters either known or unknown to the protagonist. In the story of Miss Brill,
the readers are presented an imagery of an everyday Sunday morning through the description and

How Human Resource Policies Influence the Performance of Medium Sized Manufacturing Firms
1.Introduction Globalization has created a paradigm shift in the ways by which firms conduct
their business. The convergence of world economies has minimized and in some cases
eliminated both legislative and geographical barriers to international production and sale of
goods and services. The flip side of this process is the increased competition for world markets
created especially by the threat of multinational firms to local firms (Garry Litan, 1998). Local
firms must find ways to compete and survive the threat of take over and crowding out of the
market by multinational producers who enjoy favorable economies of scale. This is effectively
achieved by ways of in themselves creating this very economy of scale; expanding business
operations helps them lower the marginal cost of production allowing them to therefore provide a
favorable pricing policy within the market. In achieving the aforementioned, firms must build up
capacity. The attention of managers and researchers alike has been commonly directed towards
assets in the sense of physical (fixed and current) and monetary assets (optimal capital structure) of
the firm in achieving this objective. Perhaps as an oversight or of limited interest is the aspect of

Rasputin s influence over Alexandra allowed him to promote political allies to high ranking state
positions, leading to a massive reorganization of bureaucracy in 1915 1916 (Massie 389).

troubles of the empire and posed a threat to the Romanov Dynasty. In December 1916, a group of
nobles led by Prince Felix Yusupov plotted Rasputin s death. After inviting him to a dinner party,
they brutally murdered Rasputin, shooting him several times, beating him, poisoning him with

Davis Guggenheim Documentary Analysis
What are you grateful for? What matters most for you? Is it money, is it family? Have you
thought about education and its big role it plays to get you to a future you want and will like?
In this well written documentary directed by Davis Guggenheim, the question of the matter is
the American education system, and its backlash on poverty and areas of need. He follows a
couple unlikely kids and their struggle to get into a average school and how failure to just get
into a school like this is the downfall of someone s future career. This documentary relates so well
to previous reads and watches about the American education system. Involving speeches like Sir
Ken Robinson and the book Re reading America, in correlation with Guggenheim s piece of work.
This portrayal of education depicts harrowing stories of how some kids growing up in places where
education is non existent and failure is common. He uses an array of techniques to capture to
attention of the audience and change their perceptionof opinions. And he does this through the use
of pathos, but in the work of that pathos he builds it with the help of musicand tone. These emotions
certainly grab the audience s attention and beliefs, and uses it to express the opinion and
characteristic of the topic argument. Within Guggenheim s excellent piece of work there are key
components that give his artwork a more visual and thorough meaning along with the story. To start

Preparing Esters
Introduction:
In chemistry, an ester is an organic compound that contains a carboxyl group in which carbon is
double bonded to one oxygen atom and single bonded to another.(Clancy). The main types of
organic reaction that occur are Addition, Elimination, Substitution, Condensation, Esterification,
Hydrolysis, Oxidation, Reduction and Combustion reactions. Throughout this experiment, one will
observe the changes of how an esterification reaction takes place using different substances to form
an ester. Esters are formed when a carboxylic acid reacts with an alcohol resulting in an
esterification reaction. (Clancy). The most common way of making an ester, R OH + R COOH пѓ

In the preparation of Ethanoic acid with Ethanol, 1mL of Ethanol was first placed into a 50mL
empty beaker and the odour and properties were observed. The Ethanol was a clear colourless
liquid that smelt similar to a permanent marker. In daily life, Ethanol is used in alcohol drinks
such as different types of liquors, it s a solvent for paint, and is one of the important tools to get
rid of air pollution from automobiles due to the fact that there is 35% oxygen in Ethanol, and the
addition of oxygen to fuels accomplishes complete combustion, thus, minimizing harmful
emissions. (Mueller). Nonetheless, Ethanol is miscible in water and could be biodegraded.
(Mueller). The next step to the process was to add 1mL of Ethanoic acid into Ethanol. Ethanoic
acid into Ethanol smelled similar to vinegar and the smell got stronger than Ethanol placed in a
beaker. Once the Ethanoic acid and Ethanol were mixed and heated in the presence of Sulfuric
acid, an esterification reaction was taking place. The odour was stronger allowing detailed

Late Fragment By Raymond Carver Analysis
Poetry; a gift from the gods of literature, blessing all those that read it with intellect and
awareness of very important issues or even a fun piece of writing to indulge in. Throughout
history, many influential writers have made an impact on society with their writing. Raymond
Carver, an award winning writer, wrote many poems and stories throughout his career that
shaped writing for many other poets. Carver was born into a family of poverty and from a
young age, he did not have an ideal relationship with his parents due to the strong use of alcohol
by his father. Later on in his life, Carver became an alcoholic and tried to distance himself from
everyone around him and a career in life. It was very clear that he was going down a very negative
path; Carver got into a toxic marriage, was diagnosed with cancer, was hospitalized for his
drinking problems many times and was going to die. Once he moved to California and found his
passion for literature, his whole life seemed to have turned around. He began to feel happier, quit
drinking, divorced his first wife and married the love of his life, Tess Gallagher. Carver typically
writes stories, but also poems based on his life experiences. In Raymond Carvers Late Fragment, a
heavily enforced message is that it is not necessary to dwell on the smaller things in life because
in the end it s all up to how we feel we lived life. Carver s use of diction throughout the poem helps
to illustrate how we should live our life to the

Kappa Alpha Stereotypes
While going through the process of determining what college to go to many students focus on
what majors are provided, location, an overall sense of the school, and several other things. One
thing that is often overlooked is the option of going Greek. Many male students often do not even
consider the option of going Greek because of false pretenses. One common misconception of
going Greek is because the membersare stereotyped to be party goers who do not do well in
college. This could not be further from the truth. For members of the Kappa Alpha Order, there are
several ambitious standards that must be maintained to stay in the Order. Also, joining Kappa
Alpha opens members, both current and former, to several opportunities. Finally, Kappa Alpha is an
Order that holds several beliefs that most southerners have faith in. When someone thinks about a
Greek Community they normally associate it with what they have learned through stereotypes such
as the movie Animal House. The members of the fraternity depicted in this film were not the
definition of the ideal college student. They would have parties almost every day along with
copious amounts of drinking. Their grades reflected on this when the main members of the movie
were kicked out for not maintaining a high enough grade point average. This movie is completely
fictional. The members of Kappa Alpha are held to an extremely high standard when it comes to
academics and behavior. Robi Rini, the Corresponding Secretary of Kappa

Essay about Analysis on Movie Water
CRITICAL ANALYSIS ON MOVIE WATER by Nadzirah Nur
In my opinion, Deepa Mehta is a courageous and bold director to produce a movie Water which is
intended to affront the tradition and living style of Indians back then. She displays how every
character brings up almost perfectly similar kind of stance which is because of the doctrine and
beliefs that have been set in their minds for a long period of time. The practice inherited from one
generation to another generation which later becomes the tradition of Indian community. I could
see how every widow refuses and rebuffs changes; which they are forbidden to marry again as a
result of believing in they themselves bring unluckiness or bad luck to others. In fact, other women

Changes can be made at any time as long as it is for the sake of our happiness. However, how can
Indian women in this movie pursuit their happiness when they think they are deemed to suffer after
their husbands death as a symbol of devotion to husband?
Frederick and Mary (2012) documented on their blogs regarding Deepa s response upon the
significance of water in this movie. Deepa said,
Water can flow or water can be stagnant. I set the film in the 1930s but the people in the film
live their lives as it was prescribed by a religious text more than 2000 years old. Even today,
people follow these texts, which is one reason why there continue to be millions of widows. To me,
that is a kind of stagnant water. I think traditions should not be that rigid. They should flow like
replenishing kind of water.
I personally agree that traditions should not be rigid. It can be changed as long as we never
forsake our solid ground, forgetting of who we are and where we are from. We are born to seek
and to create a better life, guided by religions to ensure that we do not go astray. If accepting
changes are simply called defiance, what should women oppression be called? I am clueless. On
the other hand, I understand that water is the element of purity in this movie. It is shown that all
Indians come to the bank of Ganges River to clean their bodies from sins or bad luck in particular.
Similarly, in Islam, Muslims need to take wudhu

Ability Grouping
Ability grouping is a widely spread practice used among many educators today. Between class
grouping is by far one of the most commonly used types of ability grouping. The goal of this
grouping is for each class to be made up of students who are homogeneous in standardized
intelligence or achievement test scores (Snowman, Biehler). In this type of grouping, the schools
separate their students into different classes or courses. Between class ability grouping is where
students spend most of the day in ability groups and use the same or similar curriculum
substantially adjusted to their ability levels (Ability Grouping 3). For example, in elementary
schools, students from the same grade levels may be grouped by ability for reading and... Show

This being said, there are a number of disadvantages as well. One such example is the fact that the
regrouping plan takes a considerable amount of time for planning. Teachers have to be very
cooperative and must be in agreement with one another. Another disadvantage is that teachers and
students meet with one another less frequently. [В…] Many teachers are uncomfortable working
with children whom they see only once a day for an hour or so (Snowman, 2003, p.186).
Although a derivative of the regrouping method, the Joplin Plan is perhaps the most unique of
the four types of ability grouping due to its process of cross grade grouping. A variation of the
regrouping method, the Joplin Plan is also known as the simplest form of ability groups. This
grouping plan assigns students to heterogeneous classes for most of the day, but regroups them
across grade levels for reading instruction (Hollifield 2000). This is in effort to group students for
reading instruction on the basis of ability level, regardless of age or grade. An example of the
Joplin plan would be to group all third, fourth, and fifth graders whose grade equivalent scores in
reading are 4.6. The same can (and usually is) done for mathematics. According to Gary Hopkins of
Education World Magazine, grouping students as a class by ability for all subjects doesn t improve
achievement , however, grouping

The Cost of Prohibiting an Individual from Pursuing Their...
Every individual has the right to their own good life, how they go about find and/or making it is
up to them. However, there are certain individuals who feel the need to dictate the path that
others choose to take. Like all actions, there are equal and opposite reactions, in this case, a
consequence. As seen in Sophocles Antigone and Harold Brighthouse s Hobson s Choice, the
consequence that Kreon and Henry face for prohibiting individuals pursuit of the good life is
isolation from loved ones. Sophocles character Kreon faces the ultimate price of isolation for
interfering in the pursuit of Antigone s good life as depicted in the play Antigone. Antigone s
view of building the good life was to honor the Gods and what they wished upon the people.
When Antigone s two brothers die Kreon declares a proclamation, not to honor him [Polynices]
with funeral rites or wail for him ( Sophocles, line 203 204), this went against the views of the
Gods. Antigone would rather go against Kreon s word and please the Gods by preforming the
burial rites for her brother, in pursuit of her own good life. However, Kreon does not let this act
of disobedience slide, he sends her to a cave to leave her there alone, deserted, whether she
desires to die or to love entombed (lines 887 888). This act of prohibiting Antigone from living
her good life cost Kreon the price of the loved ones around him. After Antigone was locked away,
she was found hanging by her neck (line 1221), she kills herself.

Socrates s Influence On The Youth
Socrates claims that he could not have harmed the youth of Athens willingly, and his claim that
all desire is for the good, are interconnected with each other. For Socrates claim about his
influence on the youth to be true, the claim that everyone desires for virtuous things and not
wicked, must also be true. The Meno states that: It is clear then that those who do not know
things to be bad do not desire what is bad, but they desire those things that they believe to be
good but that are in fact bad. It follows that those who have knowledge of these things and
believe them to be good clearly desire good things (Meno 77e). The key point in the above
statement is that sometimes someone does something morally wrong with the belief that their
action are upstanding. They may justify their action by their feelings that they feel at the moment
when otherwise they would know that that action is bad. This is an acceptable point of view
because Socrates never said that it has to be a true belief. As long as one has it in their mind at the
moment that the action is a justified one then they follow Socrates example. The above quote leave
the question then what happens to those that acknowledge the things that they do are immoral? The
answer there are no such people. Comparable to the eastern philosophy of karma, Socrates
proclaims that those who do bad believe that detrimental things will come back to harm them too.
That being harmed leads a person to be miserable and unhappy, and no

Response paper # 4
GEOG 473

Chad (Jong H) Lee
Historically, most of the current energy productions and distribution systems are centrally
controlled regardless whether it is operated by government or private sectors. Not to mention
most of the current government policies on those energy sectors are highly tailored of the
centralized structure. Part of the reasons I can think of that is because the framework of the
current energy model is largely focused on a big scale energy system. Although this is not
necessarily mean bad, but there are also some disadvantages when we only focus on big scale
energy systems. A couple of good examples are hydroelectric and nuclear power. While these two
sources of energy produce energy in completely different ways, they are traditionally massive in
its scale. Hydroelectric power is the oldest energy source. From a small water wheel to a
massive dam, humans have been used many of them for a long time. Since the principles of the
technology in hydroelectric plant are relatively simple and using flowing water, it is one of the
most widely used, as key energy source worldwide, and supplying electricity much like at the
national scale in many counties. While many large scale hydroelectric dams continue to be built in
many parts of the world, it is unlikely U.S. will add more of them in the future. One of the reasons
is the arising consensus of its environmental impacts to the natures. Unlike a small scale
hydroelectric dam, a

Analysis Of Rappaccini s Daughter
Lauren Thomas
Professor Saunders
ENGL 231
October 23rd, 2014
The Theme of Love in Rappaccini s Daughter Nathaniel Hawthorne s short story Rappaccini s
Daughter holds the theme of love at its forefront. The story delineates the struggles, both internal
and external, that Giovanni Guasconti faces when courting a young woman named Beatrice
Rappaccini. Beatrice s love of a plant and her father s love of science are conflicts that also
highlight the theme of love. Along with these conflicts, Hawthorne uses the theme of love to pose
the question of whether or not love is worth fighting for as well as critiquing a tragic flaw in
romantic relationships. These elements combine together to make a compelling argument that love
is simply not worth the struggle it imposes. The first conflict that arises in the short story is the
internal conflict of Giovanni. Giovanni moves from his home in order to study at the
University of Padua and sees Beatrice Rappaccini underneath the window of his new home. The
conflict Giovanni faces stems from his affection and blooming love for Beatrice. Giovanni sees
Beatrice s beauty as brilliant, so vivid in its character, that she glowed amid the sunlight (pg. 7).
However, her beauty is rivaled by her horror. Whenever a creature is near her breath, it dies.
Giovanni begins questioning whether or not loving Beatrice is a wise decision. Her horror keeps
him at bay while her beauty and her personality draw him in closer. The second conflict that

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Short Term Loans
There are times when everyone needs a little extra help with their finances, and need to borrow
cash quickly. Understanding what types of borrowing are available and which loan would be the
best for you, can help you to secure the funds you need quickly and easily.
Short Term Loans
The most popular form of short term lending at present is the payday loan. Payday loans are usually
for a month or less or until payday. They are in effect an advance on your wages. Payday loans
are one of the quickest forms of borrowing, with cash being available in your account in as little
as one hour depending on the loan company you use. To qualify, you usually need to be over 18, in
employment or with a regular income, and with a debit card, cheque book or bank account which
accepts direct debits in order to make repayment. Usually the loan is repaid in a single payment on
the day you specify, via a debit card transaction or direct debit. These are also some of the easiest

Mounted in the scarlet he saw the world and worded it in his poems, never blurring its hard actuality, but never debasing to mere actuality its ultimately mysterious news of God. As an incomprehensible certainty he reverenced God, and in his best works every aspect of poetic language incarnates without limiting that inscrutable yet intensely distinct mystery that formed the center of his life and faith. Thus, from the very initial stage of his poetic journey Hopkins has searched out the authentic cadence of life that is, Love is God, and God is Love. Thereafter, this biblical cadence God is Love (cfJN 3.16) nurtures Hopkins thoughts and emotions throughout his life. He exclaims with delight; Love I was shewn upon the mountain side And bid to catch Him ere the drop of day See, Love, I creep and thou on wings dost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some might even say reproduction is main aim and objective of the union through marriage. Parents take immense care of their children; they put them on a pedestal and dedicate their entire lives to the upbringing of their children. But what happens in cases of divorce? When parents have exceeded their threshold and divorce is inevitable the settlement of child custody is very important. When we use the term custody we must understand its legal meaning. Custody of a child, when parents divorce, only implies as to who the child will physically reside with. Both parents continue to be natural guardians. By saying that older children are given the choice of custody the court does not neglect the welfare of the child aspect. Even though the courts believe that male children of age sixteen years and above and female children of age fourteen years and above should not be compelled to live in a custody they dislike it is also important that this factor alone cannot determine the custody of the children. This is because in Venkataramma v. Tulsi the court found that the wishes of the children are found to be induced by persuasion and even torture in some cases. Other than these, in certain exceptional cases it is noted that the custody of minor children may be granted to third persons if that is what the welfare of the child requires. In Baby v. To add, it explained that Mr. Culverton Smith was an expert on the poison that was injected into the ivory box; later we learned that Mr. Culverton Smith was indeed the one who injected it into the box in the first place. In An Invitation to a Murder, the crossbones on the prescription medication was believed to be a symbol of poison. Additionally, all of the supplies on the center of the table were items that would typically kill a person; yet, none of those belongings killed Mr. Abbott. Furthermore, both stories were premeditated murders. Mrs. Abbott knew that the twelve intelligent inspectors would prevent her from giving her husband the suspicious medication. Therefore, Mr. Abbott s heart would stop beating and he would eventually die. On the other hand, Sherlock Holmes planned out every detail of the situation and what would happen. He knew that Dr. Watson would be concerned about Mr. Culverton Smith arriving and would like to stay. This created a witness for Mr. Culverton Smith confessing the crime he committed. Lastly, both of the passages had evidence that exemplified situational irony. Mrs. Abbott was dressed in black to grieve the death of herself and her disabled husband. Moreover, the investigators that were going to witness the murder, became the murderers. In the other story, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main reason why the United States should have entered World War I is because they needed to defend their people. Advantages of Occlusion training Now moving onto the advantages, one of PF s best benefits is the fact that you will dramatically boost fat burning throughout your body, this is because when you eat food your body spends couple of hours changing the food into simpler nutritional units such as amino acids and simple sugars. Therefore when you are in a normal eating schedule, your body will actually use the food you ate throughout the day or the past hours to provide itself with energy and other required nutrients and vitamins. Although if you are in a fasted state your body will not have the option to use food as an energy source and will be forced to use the fat storage around your body ( including stubborn visceral fat ) to provide your muscles and other parts of your body with the required energy , nutrients and vitamins. As a manager tell the employee up front that they will receive updates on their performance. Give your employee praising every time he or she does something right to point them in the direction of the ultimate goal. Specify what they did right and how it made you feel. A moment of silence should then be kept to give off your good feeling. This concept teaches the employee how to praise him or herself. The praising is followed up by a handshake or physical gesture to show you support their success. I agree the more you praise the individual the closer they are to praising themselves. When people feel good about themselves and the work they perform, it makes them want to do better. I could be categorized as one of those people. My performance reviews have always been happy times for me. After going over my review, I find myself on a high for weeks. My boss will then critique me on something that was not done right and I go into I don t care mode. I get defensive and my attitude reflects in my work. It takes longer for me to accomplish that task and I do not put as much effort into it as when I am feeling good. Giving praise gets people in the routine of praising themselves. These tests resulted in devastating effects on the lives of the people of Marshall Island. The environment was also affected adversely because of the radiation. In 1979, the US allowed Marshall Island to become a sovereign nation. However, agreements were signed that allowed the US to continue the island as a missile site. It can be noted that Marshall Island consists of over ten thousand small islands spread over a vast area of the ocean. The US forcefully displaced all the people living in some of the islands to pave the way for the deadly nuclear tests. In one of these tests, the US exploded the most powerful atomic device in its arsenal. So powerful were most of these tests that the ensuing fireballs could be seen with the naked eye from hundreds of miles away. The result was a massive destruction and contamination of the islands in a scale that had never been experienced in any part of the world. Due to the dangers facing the people of the island as a result of the radiations, various linguistic themes were developed. These themes primarily focused on the impact of the tests on the people, their livestock s, ways of life and the environment (Barker, 2012). McLean illustrates famous rock star artist and songwriter Buddy Holly, who died in a plane crash in 1962 by using rhetorical strategies. The different potential interpretations of this song made it one of the most controversial songs from the 1970 s. McLean was hitting home with many emotional resonances defining moments in the recent American experiences. American Piestarts out addressing McLean love for music in the 50 s. During the 50 s, music was a tool for getting people off their feet and on to the dance floors. And I knew if I had my chance, that I could make those people dance, and maybe they d be happy for a while (McLean). This verse symbolizes why he loves to create and perform for his fans. McLean then goes on to mention his mentor Buddy Holly. But February made me shiver. With every paper, I d deliver. Shocking news on the doorstep, I couldn t take one more step. I can t remember if I cried. When I read about his widowed bride. But something touched me deep inside. The day the music died (McLean). Buddy Holly died on February 3, 1959, in a plane crash. There are two theories on why the song was called American Pie. It was rumored, American Pie was the name of the plane that took Buddy Holly life. Some 605,000 of the roughly 1.4 million driver s license issue in California last year went to illegal aliens. Kozak said that the cost of the processing of the new applicants is estimated at $ 141 million over three years. This cost will be supported by the legal citizens of California because the State did not require those undocumented to pay taxes. Undoubtedly, these allegations might be dictated by the stereotypes which are used against undocumented immigrants, and unfortunately, many people are blinded by the single story about these hardworking people. If legal citizens paid for the fees related to driving licenses, why would it be different for undocumented drivers? If undocumented people accepted to work and pay federal taxes without the same benefits as other legal workers, why would they not pay for their driving license? In States that issue permits to undocumented aliens, the policy has largely self funded; i.e., fees collected from applicants pay for the costs of issuing the permit explained in the Boston Editorial Immigration has Nothing to do with Driving Skills. Research Proposal How Human Resource Policies Influence the Performance of Medium Sized Manufacturing Firms Name: Instructor: Institution: Course: Date: How Human Resource Policies Influence the Performance of Medium Sized Manufacturing Firms 1.Introduction Globalization has created a paradigm shift in the ways by which firms conduct their business. The convergence of world economies has minimized and in some cases eliminated both legislative and geographical barriers to international production and sale of goods and services. The flip side of this process is the increased competition for world markets created especially by the threat of multinational firms to local firms (Garry Litan, 1998). Local firms must find ways to compete and survive the threat of take over and crowding out of the market by multinational producers who enjoy favorable economies of scale. This is effectively achieved by ways of in themselves creating this very economy of scale; expanding business operations helps them lower the marginal cost of production allowing them to therefore provide a favorable pricing policy within the market. In achieving the aforementioned, firms must build up capacity. The attention of managers and researchers alike has been commonly directed towards assets in the sense of physical (fixed and current) and monetary assets (optimal capital structure) of the firm in achieving this objective. Lab Report Preparing Esters Abhay Vashi Preparing Esters Introduction: In chemistry, an ester is an organic compound that contains a carboxyl group in which carbon is double bonded to one oxygen atom and single bonded to another.(Clancy). The main types of organic reaction that occur are Addition, Elimination, Substitution, Condensation, Esterification, Hydrolysis, Oxidation, Reduction and Combustion reactions. Throughout this experiment, one will observe the changes of how an esterification reaction takes place using different substances to form an ester. Esters are formed when a carboxylic acid reacts with an alcohol resulting in an esterification reaction. (Clancy). The most common way of making an ester, R OH + R COOH пѓ R COO R + H2O. In the preparation of Ethanoic acid with Ethanol, 1mL of Ethanol was first placed into a 50mL empty beaker and the odour and properties were observed. The Ethanol was a clear colourless liquid that smelt similar to a permanent marker. In daily life, Ethanol is used in alcohol drinks such as different types of liquors, it s a solvent for paint, and is one of the important tools to get rid of air pollution from automobiles due to the fact that there is 35% oxygen in Ethanol, and the addition of oxygen to fuels accomplishes complete combustion, thus, minimizing harmful emissions. (Mueller). Nonetheless, Ethanol is miscible in water and could be biodegraded. (Mueller). The next step to the process was to add 1mL of Ethanoic acid into Ethanol. Ethanoic acid into Ethanol smelled similar to vinegar and the smell got stronger than Ethanol placed in a beaker. Once the Ethanoic acid and Ethanol were mixed and heated in the presence of Sulfuric acid, an esterification reaction was taking place. The odour was stronger allowing detailed observations of the ester formed. The first ester formed was Ethyl Ethanoate. The reaction was slow, and a lot of Ethyl Ethanoate was not produced. Consequently, the smell was disguised due to the smell of the Ethanoic acid. (Clark). However, the mixture was squeezed from the pipette onto a watch glass and mixed with droplets of water ... • 39. Late Fragment By Raymond Carver Analysis Poetry; a gift from the gods of literature, blessing all those that read it with intellect and awareness of very important issues or even a fun piece of writing to indulge in. Throughout history, many influential writers have made an impact on society with their writing. Raymond Carver, an award winning writer, wrote many poems and stories throughout his career that shaped writing for many other poets. Carver was born into a family of poverty and from a young age, he did not have an ideal relationship with his parents due to the strong use of alcohol by his father. Later on in his life, Carver became an alcoholic and tried to distance himself from everyone around him and a career in life. It was very clear that he was going down a very negative path; Carver got into a toxic marriage, was diagnosed with cancer, was hospitalized for his drinking problems many times and was going to die. Once he moved to California and found his passion for literature, his whole life seemed to have turned around. He began to feel happier, quit drinking, divorced his first wife and married the love of his life, Tess Gallagher. Carver typically writes stories, but also poems based on his life experiences. In Raymond Carvers Late Fragment, a heavily enforced message is that it is not necessary to dwell on the smaller things in life because in the end it s all up to how we feel we lived life. Carver s use of diction throughout the poem helps to illustrate how we should live our life to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Kappa Alpha Stereotypes While going through the process of determining what college to go to many students focus on what majors are provided, location, an overall sense of the school, and several other things. One thing that is often overlooked is the option of going Greek. Many male students often do not even consider the option of going Greek because of false pretenses. One common misconception of going Greek is because the membersare stereotyped to be party goers who do not do well in college. This could not be further from the truth. For members of the Kappa Alpha Order, there are several ambitious standards that must be maintained to stay in the Order. Also, joining Kappa Alpha opens members, both current and former, to several opportunities. Finally, Kappa Alpha is an Order that holds several beliefs that most southerners have faith in. When someone thinks about a Greek Community they normally associate it with what they have learned through stereotypes such as the movie Animal House. The members of the fraternity depicted in this film were not the definition of the ideal college student. They would have parties almost every day along with copious amounts of drinking. Their grades reflected on this when the main members of the movie were kicked out for not maintaining a high enough grade point average. This movie is completely fictional. The members of Kappa Alpha are held to an extremely high standard when it comes to academics and behavior. Robi Rini, the Corresponding Secretary of Kappa ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay about Analysis on Movie Water CRITICAL ANALYSIS ON MOVIE WATER by Nadzirah Nur In my opinion, Deepa Mehta is a courageous and bold director to produce a movie Water which is intended to affront the tradition and living style of Indians back then. She displays how every character brings up almost perfectly similar kind of stance which is because of the doctrine and beliefs that have been set in their minds for a long period of time. The practice inherited from one generation to another generation which later becomes the tradition of Indian community. However, how can Indian women in this movie pursuit their happiness when they think they are deemed to suffer after their husbands death as a symbol of devotion to husband? Frederick and Mary (2012) documented on their blogs regarding Deepa s response upon the significance of water in this movie. Deepa said, Water can flow or water can be stagnant. I set the film in the 1930s but the people in the film live their lives as it was prescribed by a religious text more than 2000 years old. Even today, people follow these texts, which is one reason why there continue to be millions of widows. To me, that is a kind of stagnant water. I think traditions should not be that rigid. They should flow like replenishing kind of water. I personally agree that traditions should not be rigid. It can be changed as long as we never forsake our solid ground, forgetting of who we are and where we are from. We are born to seek and to create a better life, guided by religions to ensure that we do not go astray. If accepting changes are simply called defiance, what should women oppression be called? I am clueless. On the other hand, I understand that water is the element of purity in this movie. It is shown that all Indians come to the bank of Ganges River to clean their bodies from sins or bad luck in particular. Similarly, in Islam, Muslims need to take wudhu ... • 42. Ability Grouping Ability grouping is a widely spread practice used among many educators today. Between class grouping is by far one of the most commonly used types of ability grouping. The goal of this grouping is for each class to be made up of students who are homogeneous in standardized intelligence or achievement test scores (Snowman, Biehler). In this type of grouping, the schools separate their students into different classes or courses. Between class ability grouping is where students spend most of the day in ability groups and use the same or similar curriculum substantially adjusted to their ability levels (Ability Grouping 3). For example, in elementary schools, students from the same grade levels may be grouped by ability for reading and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This being said, there are a number of disadvantages as well. One such example is the fact that the regrouping plan takes a considerable amount of time for planning. Teachers have to be very cooperative and must be in agreement with one another. Another disadvantage is that teachers and students meet with one another less frequently. [В…] Many teachers are uncomfortable working with children whom they see only once a day for an hour or so (Snowman, 2003, p.186). Although a derivative of the regrouping method, the Joplin Plan is perhaps the most unique of the four types of ability grouping due to its process of cross grade grouping. A variation of the regrouping method, the Joplin Plan is also known as the simplest form of ability groups. This grouping plan assigns students to heterogeneous classes for most of the day, but regroups them across grade levels for reading instruction (Hollifield 2000). This is in effort to group students for reading instruction on the basis of ability level, regardless of age or grade. An example of the Joplin plan would be to group all third, fourth, and fifth graders whose grade equivalent scores in reading are 4.6. The same can (and usually is) done for mathematics. According to Gary Hopkins of Education World Magazine, grouping students as a class by ability for all subjects doesn t improve achievement , however, grouping ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, there are certain individuals who feel the need to dictate the path that others choose to take. Like all actions, there are equal and opposite reactions, in this case, a consequence. As seen in Sophocles Antigone and Harold Brighthouse s Hobson s Choice, the consequence that Kreon and Henry face for prohibiting individuals pursuit of the good life is isolation from loved ones. Sophocles character Kreon faces the ultimate price of isolation for interfering in the pursuit of Antigone s good life as depicted in the play Antigone. Antigone s view of building the good life was to honor the Gods and what they wished upon the people. When Antigone s two brothers die Kreon declares a proclamation, not to honor him [Polynices] with funeral rites or wail for him ( Sophocles, line 203 204), this went against the views of the Gods. Antigone would rather go against Kreon s word and please the Gods by preforming the burial rites for her brother, in pursuit of her own good life. However, Kreon does not let this act of disobedience slide, he sends her to a cave to leave her there alone, deserted, whether she desires to die or to love entombed (lines 887 888). This act of prohibiting Antigone from living her good life cost Kreon the price of the loved ones around him. After Antigone was locked away, she was found hanging by her neck (line 1221), she kills herself. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Socrates s Influence On The Youth Socrates claims that he could not have harmed the youth of Athens willingly, and his claim that all desire is for the good, are interconnected with each other. For Socrates claim about his influence on the youth to be true, the claim that everyone desires for virtuous things and not wicked, must also be true. The Meno states that: It is clear then that those who do not know things to be bad do not desire what is bad, but they desire those things that they believe to be good but that are in fact bad. It follows that those who have knowledge of these things and believe them to be good clearly desire good things (Meno 77e). The key point in the above statement is that sometimes someone does something morally wrong with the belief that their action are upstanding. They may justify their action by their feelings that they feel at the moment when otherwise they would know that that action is bad. This is an acceptable point of view because Socrates never said that it has to be a true belief. As long as one has it in their mind at the moment that the action is a justified one then they follow Socrates example. The above quote leave the question then what happens to those that acknowledge the things that they do are immoral? The answer there are no such people. Comparable to the eastern philosophy of karma, Socrates proclaims that those who do bad believe that detrimental things will come back to harm them too. That being harmed leads a person to be miserable and unhappy, and no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Response paper # 4 GEOG 473 SPRING 2016 Chad (Jong H) Lee Historically, most of the current energy productions and distribution systems are centrally controlled regardless whether it is operated by government or private sectors. Not to mention most of the current government policies on those energy sectors are highly tailored of the centralized structure. Part of the reasons I can think of that is because the framework of the current energy model is largely focused on a big scale energy system. Although this is not necessarily mean bad, but there are also some disadvantages when we only focus on big scale energy systems. A couple of good examples are hydroelectric and nuclear power. While these two sources of energy produce energy in completely different ways, they are traditionally massive in its scale. Hydroelectric power is the oldest energy source. From a small water wheel to a massive dam, humans have been used many of them for a long time. Since the principles of the technology in hydroelectric plant are relatively simple and using flowing water, it is one of the most widely used, as key energy source worldwide, and supplying electricity much like at the national scale in many counties. Analysis Of Rappaccini s Daughter Lauren Thomas Professor Saunders ENGL 231 October 23rd, 2014 The Theme of Love in Rappaccini s Daughter Nathaniel Hawthorne s short story Rappaccini s Daughter holds the theme of love at its forefront. The story delineates the struggles, both internal and external, that Giovanni Guasconti faces when courting a young woman named Beatrice Rappaccini. Beatrice s love of a plant and her father s love of science are conflicts that also highlight the theme of love. Along with these conflicts, Hawthorne uses the theme of love to pose the question of whether or not love is worth fighting for as well as critiquing a tragic flaw in romantic relationships. These elements combine together to make a compelling argument that love is simply not worth the struggle it imposes. The first conflict that arises in the short story is the internal conflict of Giovanni. Giovanni moves from his home in order to study at the University of Padua and sees Beatrice Rappaccini underneath the window of his new home. The conflict Giovanni faces stems from his affection and blooming love for Beatrice. Giovanni sees Beatrice s beauty as brilliant, so vivid in its character, that she glowed amid the sunlight (pg. 7). However, her beauty is rivaled by her horror.
