Research Paper On Mood Disorders
Mood disorders are the most common cases of mental illness. Every person encounters a type of
disorder at least once his life time. Having a mood disorder means that your emotional state, or in
other words your mood is distorted (not stable). The disorder is characterized by bringing the persons
mood extremely up, or extremely down. Two examples are depression and bipolar disorder. Mood
disorders are usually episodic, they come every once in a while according to the person and the events
he would be going through. Some episodes might last longer than others. Mood disorders vary in their
different types, and every type of disorder has its specific causes and effects.
There are two types of mood disorders; the unipoler and the bipolar. The unipoler disorder is the type
of disorder that makes a person only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a type of depression that lasts much longer than the major depression. This disorder lasts for at
least 2 years. It is a chronic type of depression and should be treated since it might lead to suicide.
Speaking of the Mood disorder that is caused by health conditions, this is the type of disorder that
occurs to people suffering illnesses such as cancer, injuries, or infections, or any other chronic illness.
When an ill individual feels hopeless with the medical case he s in, a lot of negative thoughts would
be piling up in his had that will obviously lead to a major depression.
Another Mood disorder is the one that is caused by inducing substances in the body. This disorder is
caused by the excessive use of alcohol, drugs, or even medication. The excessive use of a substance
might lead to addiction. This addiction leads to depression and the victim would be stuck in a vicious
loop. An individual would start taking even more drugs to run away from the current depressing
reality. In some cases the intake of drugs would be the main reason for triggering of the depressing

Socratic Introverts
So what did you think of the ending? she asked. She was my junior year AP Lang teacher and our
class was having a Socratic seminar about the book we had been reading, Extremely Loud and
Incredibly Close. It was a great read, not like many of the other novels we read that year. I just didn t
feel the same way about the discussion we were having. With every remark my fellow students made,
I felt like I could only agree with their statement. Being the introvert I am, my reservoir of things to
say only shrank in size and I lacked confidence in any new thoughts that formed. It s not like other
students were making insightful comments that I could bounce of off either. It seemed so difficult to
maintain a discussion on something as broad as the

Jonas Beliefs
Jonas decided that only members of the Nazi Party had political rights and could run for office, which
would keep the right people in control. The Jewish people could never be a part of the Nazi Party and
these two leaders would see to their demise. Jonas believed that the Jews were not on the same level,
economically, physically or mentally, as he was.
On the night of February 27, 1933, Jonas heard from and underground source about Marinus van der
Lubbe, a Dutch communist setting the Reichstag building on fire. This allowed Hitler to insinuate that
the Communist Party was assembling a revolt and was able to pass the Reichstag Fire Decree,
implemented the day after the fire. This decree rescinded German civil liberties and gave police the

This act would allow Hitler to pass any law on his own accord without having to consult with the
Reichstag for the next four years. To validate the political authority of Hitler and the Nazi Party, Jonas
advised Hitler to instruct the Nazi Party to organize a campaign to assassinate all the leaders in the
Sturmabteilung, SA, who could have posed a challenge to Hitler s leadership. By getting rid of any
form of competition, Hitler would be the sole option to lead. On June 30, 1934, the Night of Long
Knives, the assassinations began and after about three to four weeks they had successfully purged the
Nazi party of any threats. When President Hindenburg died of natural causes on August 2, 1934, Hitler
became the sole ruler of Germany and now nothing stood in his way. Jonas had finally accomplished
his goal to get Hitler in power and was proud of this achievement.
Jonas had earned significant praise from Hitler for being his aid for many years, that he made Jonas
second in command of the Nazi Party. This triumph inspired an official ceremony that proved to the
rest of the members of his new status. Hannah and the boys were happy that Jonas had become a
prominent player in this fight to get Germany back to its glory days. Jonas enjoyed the praise and
became attached to Hitler, hardly ever leaving his

Prevention And Treatment Of Athletic Injuries
Prevention and Treatment of Athletic Injuries Participation in sports can be beneficial for people, they
build self esteem and peer relationships. When students get involved in sports their grades and
attitudes improve for the better, but sports also have one very negative effect, injuries (TrueSport).
Injuries can take a person from doing something they love to sitting the bench for extended periods of
time. Common injuries such as, overuse injuries, anterior cruciate ligament tears, concussions, and
heat illness can be prevented by both athletes and coaches with the right form of knowledge on
treatment and prevention. Overuse injuries are caused by continuous mini traumas to an athletes

Exercise is beneficial for bones, ligaments, muscles, and tendons, but when the body undergoes the
process of remodeling there is a fine line between breakdown and buildup. When breakdown of tissues
occurs more than buildup of tissues the body is more likely to experience an overuse injury. Training
errors are the most common cause of overuse injuries. Errors occur in training frequency, intensity,
and length as many people try to increase their workouts too quickly. Previous injuries can also lead to
more injuries as athlete s may push to train too hard so they can return sooner.
Learning proper exercise technique may help prevent overuse injuries. An athlete must learn to listen
to their bodies to prevent overuse injuries, No pain, no gain, might not be right, if in extreme amounts
of pain it is important limit or even stop exercise until the problem feels better. The ten percent rule
might benefit athletes as it requires an athlete only increase the intensity of their workout regime by
ten percent each week. To treat an overuse injury one must, cut down the intensity of a work out, or
even stop it completely. One can maintain their fitness level while treating an overuse injury by
varying hard and easy workouts and adding cross training for extra strength. Learning proper workout
technique is important, it may have caused the injury so it is vital to treat it and prevent the injury

Sound And Music By Wilfred Owen
In the scientific world, sound has been used for many purposes. One of them is to find the depth of the
sea using sound waves. Similarly, in the world of literature, sound or music is used to convey the
deeper meaning of the writing. It takes the reader to a different level of understanding, which brings
out the reality behind the words. Sound plays an important role in one s life, and so it does in
literature. Without sound or music, the literature cannot be properly expressed because it is lacking
one of the five senses, that is, the sense of hearing. The poets used sound to enhance their poem and
thus giving it a new meaning. In the early twentieth century, people who were in the war would
describe their experiences during the war through poems and literature. Through the different styles of
literature, veterans of war would communicate their thoughts and ideas to the world. Wilfred Owen, a
famous World War One poet, wrote poems about people who would send young men to war. His
Anthem for Doomed Youth has an incredible way of describing the sound. He describes objects in
such a realistic way that the reader feels transported into the battlefield in the midst of war. With the
use of illustrative words, the reader gets connected to the poem. The repetition in Only the monstrous
anger of the guns. Only the stuttering rifles rapid rattle (1 2) describes the horrifying way in which the
soldiers were cremated in the great war. In addition to this, the alliteration in

Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998
Children s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 This legislation grew out of the fact that by 1998
roughly ten million American children had access to the Internet, and at the same time, studies
indicated that children were unable to understand the potential effect of revealing their personal
information online and parent failed to monitor their children s use of the Internet. (Koby) Due to the
technology available today children of all ages have access to the internet. In the 1960 s the internet
became a major source of marketing, sales, and distribution of both products and services.
Unfortunately many of these services were used by children under the age of 13 years old (Children s

Children s Internet Protection Act The Children s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) is a federal law
enacted by Congress to address concerns about access to offensive content over the Internet on school
and library computers (Children s Internet Protection Act (CIPA)). This act like Children s Online
Privacy Act was implemented due to the advances of today s internet technology. Because these sites
allowed children to gain access to sites that contain media that is harmful to minors, and also allow
predators to access the email of minors it was deemed necessary that they be blocked on computers
that gave minors access to the internet in public schools and libarays (Children s Online Privacy

Ancient Egyptian Tombs
Abstract Studying ancient Egyptian tombs have long been an important source of information
regarding many aspects of Egyptian religion. Walls of New Kingdom tombs are often decorated with
plenty of painted religious scenes. While they were primarily private structures containing images
selected by the person who expected to be housed there for eternity, the funerary monuments also
reflect religious beliefs. While numerous researches focused on many of the religious scenes depicted
on the walls of ancient Egyptian tombs, no one focused on the knife holders scenes. Hence, the current
study focused on knife holders scenes depicted on the walls of both royal and private tombs dating
back to the New Kingdom at Thebes. The current study ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

There Basic Concepts That Guide An Individual Throughout
There basic concepts that guide an individual throughout life. Self belonging is incorporated within
those rules. However, what role does culture play in self belonging? It is a very important concept,
they are interdependent aspects of self fulfillment. The importance of recognizing the values of
different opinions toward fulfilling self actualization in society is expressed in the social identity
theory. Thereof, valuing any religion fortifies the comprehension of culture, and freedom of religion
aids in establishing societies self identity.
The Issue
Rock of Ages and a Hard Space (2003) presents the topic of how society regulates religion. The issue

Thus, the focus of self identity is kept by allowing the individual to continue their education and group

Culture and Social Identity Theory
Phua (2004) associated culture as an aid in social and economic progression. Thus, culture does not
inhibit or deteriorate social expansion. So if schools do not provide funding for such growth in cultural
variety. It then promotes a single ideation throughout its organization. Much like a dictator promoting
one single view point. It is in a sense allowing the government to dictate what society seems fit in
those states. Thus, schools should not dictate whom they provide aid to specifically in determining
majors of their students. It is hindering their growth and their right to express how and whom they
choose to believe. Although clause 14th establishes that states also should not dictate whom they aid
in regards to religion, the base of the problem relies on interpretation (Watson, 2015). Basically, social
interpretation of the amendments. Religion and Social Identity Theory
As for religion and social identity, it is the same as culture and social identity. Religion is part of a
culture which focuses on combining such ideations into one. It helps in the aid of social structure. If
limiting certain religions than the ideation of the self diminishes. It creates an imbalance in the
homeostasis of the identity of an individual or group. As we

The Extract By Junot Diaz Essay
The extract How to Date a Brown Girl by Junot Diaz basically explains a detailed instruction on how
to deal with females of different races. It is filled with gender stereotypes throughout the extract where
most of these stereotypes are not justified. The protagonist would like others to believe that he is a
girls man or girls dem sugar according to Beenie Man. Is he such a girls man if he is worried that a
girl would not turn up to a date? Is he a true girls man if he sees all the possible things that could go
wrong during the date?
One would argue that his views and stereotypes are all wrong and race does not determine
promiscuity. It is not fair to say that all white girls are open to explore their sexuality. It is not fair to
say that you are guaranteed to get a hand job from any white girl once you get her alone. One can
argue that all his views about women are due to what he heard and not based on his experience of
being a male.
Noting that most main stream pornographic movies are those of white women, maybe the notion that
white women are opened to their sexuality is not too far off. Maybe there is some truth behind this
stereotype, and maybe there is not any truth to it at all.
Within this extract, there are strong elements that suggest various degrees of respectability and
reputation, along with a very small aspect of sexual objectification of women. Today we see the
objectification of women in media ever so often that it becomes normal and almost

The Odyssey
The Odyssey
In Homer s epic, The Odyssey, each culture treats strangers and guests with distinct differences from
every other culture. One of the most hospitable cultures was that of the ancient Greeks, exemplified in
Homer s The Odyssey by both gracious hosts and guests. In Greece and The Odyssey, not only was
good hospitality etiquette expected, but the added pressure that if they didn t treat their guests with
respect the gods would punish them further compelled excellent manners. The Odyssey illustrates the
proper etiquette when dealing with guests. In Homer s ancient Greece their are many steps that a host
must follow to complete proper guest host relations, these steps aren t enforced but are expected.

As a guest, Odysseus is very selfish and inconsiderate towards his hosts. Throughout the duration of
Odysseus absence, the suitors are treated well, and in response to this, they refuse to leave when
asked. The suitors are fed and housed, and after a number of years they overstay their welcome. In
response to this Telemachus, prompted by Athena, informs the suitors that his father is returning home
and they are all to vacate Odysseus home. The suitors, in turn, ignore him and continue to eat drink
and be merry, at the cost of Telemachus and Penelope s household. What are the consequences of
these actions taken by the suitors? Although the primary consequence is their death, they also lose the
hand of Penelope. None of them are able to pass the test of stringing the bow of Odysseus except
Odysseus himself. This is followed by the main consequence of the suitors execution at the hands of
Odysseus and Telemachus. By not respecting the hospitality given by Penelope, they set the stage for
their own deaths. This is quite possibly a reference to the fact that they saw hospitality as a way to
honor the gods; giving hospitality to a stranger was the same as offering it to a god. Zeus being the
god of hospitality, one of the primary ways to worship this aspect of Zeus godliness was to be
hospitable to strangers and travelers. A

Human Vs Robotic Space Exploration
In Support of: Sending Exclusively Robotic Missions Space exploration is devoted to seeking out the
unknowns of the universe. Manned and robotic missions alike have contributed priceless knowledge
of our planet s surroundings and beyond. However, with the current geopolitical climate, funding, and
other practicalities, it is not reasonable for the exploration of space to be done exclusively by humans.
To put it simply, human space flight is incredibly expensive in an already over budgeted program. As
of 2016 s fiscal year budget, NASA was allocated $18.5 billion by the United States government
(Granath, 2015). Although this number seems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first sample from the moon was actually taken robotically by the Soviet Union, according to Nye
(James Randi Foundation, 2011). The United States was actually beaten in this aspect, although this
fact has not gotten very much press in the general public. Faster results by robotic missions would aid
in speeding up the commercialization of space travel which would in turn help fund further
exploration.
Robotic space missions are more efficient and cost effective, which makes them a better choice going
into the future of space exploration. Specifically with missions to Mars, it opens the possibility of one
way trips to this exciting planet, which would dramatically decrease the amount of money needed to
fund missions. Lawrence Krauss, an American Canadian theoretical physicist, has stated that a large
burden on manned space missions is having to transport fuel for two trips, there and back again
(James Randi Foundation, 2011). Elon Musk has agreed with this argument in that he has said a rocket
is essentially just a container for liquid oxygen and fuel, of which robots would need only half the fuel
and require none of the oxygen for respiration purposes (Anderson, 2012). Why should transportation
remain two times more expensive than it should be? Lugging this fuel around also has a negative
environmental impact. The petroleum tanks that maintain the refrigeration of the fuel leave a large

Dbq Essay On Childhood And Divorce
Fatherhood Divorce Where you stand depends on where you sit. Have you ever heard that saying? It
means your opinion about a situation can be based on your own experience (or lack of experience)
with it. For example, up until the day my wife said our marriage was over, I assumed many of my
friends got divorced because of their work prioritization, activities, or some other faulty decisions they
made. Today, I m divorced and sitting on the other side the issue. I realize that divorce can happen to
anyone due to any number of causes. Divorce can be the result of sudden, clearly recognizable events
or slow building, almost imperceptible issues which erode the foundation of marriage over time. It
seems that for many men, the choice to divorce isn t theirs because about 70% of divorces today are
initiated by women.[1] While we may not have the power to stay married, we do have the power to
define our role as a parent after a divorce. Defining that role begins with understanding the baseline
and the changes ahead. Self Assessment Fathers today spend more time taking care of their children
compared to previous generations. Even with these gains, today s mothers devote almost double the
time that fathers do for child care.[2] While every situation is different, in most families there ... Show

Cory Mature In Boy s Life
It was a cold morning when Cory Mackenson s life first began to change. He was woken up at the

They got out of their house and began his dad s usual milk route, but little did Cory know that he
would be seeing a dead body that would scar him and his father and change their lives forever. In the
book Boy s Life by Robert McCammon, Cory s father s experience with the murder at Saxon s Lake

novel from a reckless boy into a responsible young man. It first appeared that Cory was maturing and

of boys. They begin to harass them and call them very rude names. After the name calling came the

then threw the baseball at Gordo from about ten feet. (169) This time Cory put his foot down to the
endless insults thrown by the brothers, and he stood up for not just himself but also his friends, which
was a way that his friends had made him mentally grow. More than once in this story do Cory s
friends influence the way that Cory matures, and they especially do that when Cory is talking to Davy
Ray whilst Davy is on his deathbed. Cory is scared and most likely feels alone at that moment since he
is helping his friend to be able to go in peace. But his past experiences with his friends have helped
him get to a point where he is able to put his own feelings aside and help his friend who needs it more.
Both of these times in the story show the ways that Cory s friends were part of the reasoning to why
he mentally matured from a boy into a young man. If these things had not happened to his friends then
nothing would have inspired Cory to take action or demonstrate ways that he has

Andy didn t have time to react so Michael had the chance to run and he took it. He ran as fast as he
could to get away from the Detective. He got to his car and drove back to the station.
Here I have evidence Detective Andy is a killer!
Whoa. sighed all the cops.
We can t do anything sorry. said the second Detective.
Then Michael ran to his car and back to the cabin in the woods. Michael ran back into the woods and
found the cabin once again. He searched and searched for Andy but it didn t seem he was there.
Michael went around back and shattered a window and climbed in. He found the knife and the two
bodies. Then Michael heard crunching in the distance and grabbed the knife. He ran to where the

Space Exploration And Tourism During The Cold War Of 1947
Previous to space colonization and tourism, one must explore the given planet; understanding the
problems and providing solutions to protect and aid the coming population. During the Cold War of
1947 through 1991, the United States and Russia fought for the accomplishment of space travel; the
moon was the primary target due to humans general understanding as well as the relative closeness to
the earth. Besides the sun, the moon was the utmost visible object in the sky. July 20, 1967, The U.S.
put the first man on the moon, One small step for man one giant leap for mankind. During December,
1972, Apollo 17 commander Gene Cernan set foot on the moon and is the last known man to do so.
Forty four years later, humans debate over whether or not man should set foot on the moon. Today, the
main question is, why humans should set foot on the moon? The company Space Exploration will
allow the furthering of scientific knowledge, improved energy crisis, international cooperation,
excavation of resources, bodily preparation for gravitational disadvantages, exploration preparation,
and surface liftoff medium. With the moon being three days away (with current technologies), humans
can improve overall understanding and life circumstances in relation to lunar exploration. The moon s
surface is primarily untouched land that is around 3 4.5 billion years old. This indicates that it still
withholds early geologic history: early meteor fragments, comet fragments, ancient solar wind

Refution Of The Trinity Doctrine By T. Chandler
In spite of a few shortcomings, Chandler s book is well written and easy to understand. He shows that
the Trinity Doctrine is related to Gnostic heresies that the Church condemns. Like most of the Gnostic
heresies, the Trinity Doctrine developed from Greek philosophy and Egyptian paganism, especially
Hermeticism. The notion of Christ as God has its origins in Gnosticism instead of the New Testament.
Thus, he shows that the Trinity Doctrine is essentially a Gnostic creed.
He gives a good history of the development of the Trinity Doctrine and shows that the Emperors of
Rome force Nicene Creed and the others Creeds related to the Trinity Doctrine on the Church. Thus,
the Creed of the Trinity Doctrine was more political than theological. Moreover, the ante Nicene
Fathers were not trinitarians in the sense of the Trinity Doctrine; they were unitarians. ... Show more

Moreover, he discusses several verses that refute the Trinity Doctrine by showing that Jesus is a man,

which he concludes is not a person but an attribute of God.
One problem with his book is that he uses the Jewish and secular humanist dating system of B.C.E.

A Joint Tenant With Rights Of Survivorship
Martin is a joint tenant with a right of survivorship with his friends Peter, John, and Thomas. All of
them have passed away, and Martin has not been back to the property in more than 20 years.
Consequently, Peter indicated in his will that he was leaving his interest in the property to his son
Andrew. Andrew has taken a personal loan out and used his part of the interest in the property as
collateral. The lender has initiated a legal action to foreclose on the property. Unfortunately, this type
of property co ownership is known as joint tenancy with rights of survivorship and the portion of the
interest that is now owned by Andrew, in fact, can be attached by creditors. Andrew s father, Peter, left
his share of his interest of the property to him as joint tenancy with rights of survivorship in an effort
to provide him with quick and easy access to the property. According to Michael L. Johnson, the
advantages of placing assets in joint ownership with rights of survivorship is to avoid the cost of
administration upon death of the creator and to provide quick and simple access to the property by the
surviving joint owner upon death of the creator (Johnson, Winter 1985). However, Andrew has
defaulted on the loan and consequently, the property is in jeopardy of going into foreclosure. From my
view point, Martin has two choices to make regarding the property. He should call the loan company
and find out how much is owed on the loan and pay it back in an effort to keep the

Pros and Cons of Government Intervention Essay

This specific report addresses the pros and cons of how much government intervention in the
marketplace is necessary and appropriate. This report will cover four authors, Cunningham, Green,
Friedman and Pertschuk. The authors have written extensively on consumerism and the protection
thereof. This author s goal is to break down some of the theories, which authors seem akin in their
beliefs and which authors views are bipolar opposites. Green states there be only should be two types
of government regulations 1) economic regulations and 2) health and safety regulations. He states the

Friedman views the consumer as strong and is totally interested in efficiency. He does note however
the FDA had done a good job of keeping us from harmful medication. The Cunningham s objective of
their research was to determine how many individuals in various sectors of society know about the
consumer protection laws and their rights as consumers. These were included, but not limited to false
advertising, false retail advertising, credit regulations, credit cards, labeling, truth in lending and
deceptive retail practices. These authors view the consumer relatively weak due to a lack of
knowledge. They also feel the low incomes are no match for the sophisticated marketer. There these
authors are interested in equity. The most important implication derives from the lack of information
demonstrated by all income segments of the consumer sample. This situation suggests that what is
needed is not more and tougher laws, but rather more information made available to ore individuals
concerning their rights as consumers. The present research has demonstrated that one other variable is
important: with the exception of a few areas of the law, both consumers and attorneys know very little
about their rights as consumers. This was particularly true in areas such as door door selling, false or
deceptive advertising, false or deceptive retail practices. More and better information concerning
consumers rights must be provided to individuals of all

It is therefore very essential for all to realize that public outcry for increased social responsibility will
not disappear if business organizations fail to respond to the challenges these had posed for the

communications industries as a focus] to the well being of the society. This is necessary if only to

The Gilded Age And The Second Industrial Revolution
The Gilded Age is known as the Second Industrial Revolution because of the major increase in
factories and production (Foner 593). During this time the United States controlled more than a third
of the world s industrial output. This led to approximately 11 million people moving from the rural
areas to the city, and another 25 million immigrants moving into America (Foner, 596). Because of the
increase in population, freedom and safety were harder to maintain. Freedom was hard for everyone
who was not a wealthy, white male. This was proven when the Indians of the Gilded Age were
fighting for their freedom. One major occurrence was the famous saying from Chief Joseph, Let me be
a free man . Chief Joseph was the leader of the Nez Perce (Foner, 615). He wanted to confront an
issue that not only his tribe but also other tribes were struggling with, which was being confined to
reservation life (Foner, 615). This was the U.S. s first example of a strike. Many more strikes occurred
in the progressive era when women were battling gender roles and individuality. Women established
feminism , which was a gender liberation of females during the progressive era (Foner, 703). Another
major idea of freedom was presented in the workplace called The Miner s Freedom (Foner, 607). It
was established in the Gilded Age for worker s economic independence (Foner, 607). The Miner s
Freedom was for the trustworthy, skilled workers who did not have to have managerial supervision at
all times (Foner, 607, 610). In the progressive era, there was Fordism. Fordism was a step towards
mass production, which fueled the economic system by having more of the same products for the
consumers (Foner, 693). Freedom was hard to maintain because of political corruption and the
mishandling of the economy. Overall, the bourgeois dominated the proletariat. Andrew Carnegie, John
D. Rockefeller, and William Vanderbilt are three examples of political figures. Carnegie had steel
company, in which he was in control of every aspect from raw materials to manufacturing,
distribution, and transportation (Foner, 599). Rockefeller bought out all of the competing oil
companies and controlled every facet of them as well (Foner, 599). Vanderbilt controlled

1.1 MARKET ECONOMIES
Answer all questions in a complete paragraph with an opening sentence, 3 descriptive sentences and 1
closing sentence.
What is the major difference between a command economy and a market economy?
There is a major difference between a command economy and a market economy. Command is where
you have no choice and the government tells you what to do, like what your job is and what product
you will make. But, in market you have choices and your own personal feelings about what you want
your job to be and what product you will produce. That is the major difference between a command
economy and a market economy.
Which of the characteristics of a market economy do you believe is the most Important? Explain
I believe that profit is the is the most characteristic of a market economy. It is the amount of money
left over when subtracting the expenses so, it is the complete earnings of your business. That is why I
believe it is most important characteristic of a market economy.
Why have market economies been adopted in many countries throughout the world that formerly had
command economies?
There are some reasons why market economies have been adopted in many countries throughout the
world. It gives the government more opportunities to deal with more important issues such as war,
immigration, laws/rights, and etc. Instead of worrying about what every person in the country s job is
and having the government tell them everything they need to do. Those are

Julius Caesar As A Source Criticism
In this essay I will be describing, discussing and evaluating my chosen source. I will be using the
references that I have chosen, in order to present a clear and concise source criticism, coming to a well
rounded conclusion at the end.
The source is taken from the book Commentarii de Bello Gallico , which was written and edited by
Aulus Hiritus and Julius Caesar and was published around 58 49 BC, sometime after Julius Caesars
death. It is a secondary source which describes Julius Caesar s first hand account of the nine year
period that he spent fighting the Celtic and Germanic people in Gaul. The book was written in order to
inform the Roman people of the Gallic Wars from a source that they trusted, however it is biased
meaning that Caesar may have had particular motives for writing it thus meaning that the content may
also be influenced by Caesars motives. Caesars chronology of Commentarii de Bello Gallico allows
for him to react to the shifts in Rome s political climate (Timothy, R. Kimbrough, 2014, p. 3), which
means that the source I have chosen to critique was written to suit Caesars immediate needs (G.
Woolf, 2011, p.54), suggesting that the portrayal of joy that Caesar has been bestowed with could be
exaggerated in order to fit the political climate in Rome, allowing him to maintain his position within
the Senate and with the Roman population. The book contains information on the Gallic Wars and its
purpose is to persuade the Roman people that Caesars appointment in Gaul and his actions during the
Wars occurred in order to benefit the Roman state and the Roman people, regardless of the legality
with which they were brought about (Timothy. R. Kimbrough, 2014, p.8).
However, the source also suggests that Caesar was popular and was a worthy figure head for the
Roman Empire because he was prepared to face the unknown (H. Schadee, 2008, p.170), presenting
the his readers that he was then welcomed by the towns and their people connotes that he was
expressing his influence and power outside of Rome. The meaning of this source is that Caesar is
attempting to exert his reputation and power over the Senate by recounting his actions during the Wars
as for the benefit of the Roman empire, to the

Unfortunately the problem with the Piscinae was that they would only take care of large sediments
like sand and grit. Sediments on the order of 1µm have a settling speed ω of infinity (Equation 1), for
example clay particles, which do not need flowing water to stay in colloidal suspension. So the water
reaching Rome would still be turbid. (Frontius Legacy p36 37)

with miniscule fragments Roman pottery. This waterproofing was called opus signinum and was

water delivery expected of that section. The primary sizing consideration for these channels was for
maintenance, so a man could enter it. {Roman aquae water sup Hodge p93 95}.

When the duct reached a canyon or a valley and following the contour of the land was impractical,
viaducts or bridges were constructed to maintain the steady gradient (Figure 11).
Figure 11 Diagram of viaduct
These bridges were built from locally available building materials, like limestone or tufa, and hence
had a maximum height limit empirically determined by the Romans to be around 50 m {RA WS

materials for the bridge were quarried locally, so there was no need to transport large quantities of
heavy lead long distances from the mines to the build site, leading to a significant drop in building
cost; construction with brick and cement required lower skilled labor, like slaves or semi skilled
laborers, than working with lead pipes which required skilled welders to join

Technology In The Fertile Crescent
Technology, in the form of weapons and transport, provides the direct means by which certain peoples
have expanded their realms and conquered other peoples (Diamond 241). In the modern world,
weapons seem to define the outcomes of wars. Technology motivates the daily lives of people
internationally. Throughout history, weapons and technology have led to major conquests and growths
of human civilizations.
After 11,000 B.C., technology in the Fertile Crescent developed immensely. Inventions including flint
blades for harvesting, baskets and containers for collecting crops, and underground storage pits made
it possible for food production to occur. These cumulative developments constituted the unconscious
first steps of plant domestication (Diamond 111). Utilizing the further geographical advantage of rich
soil, people of the Fertile Crescent leapt into the world of food production. Food production, in turn,
yielded large food surpluses stored in baskets, allowing the society to move toward a sedentary
lifestyle and a more organized, specialized community. Simple agricultural tool advancements led to a

Comfortably Neumb Poem Analysis
Are drugs really the answer to anyone s problems? Comfortably Numb, a song, written by Roger
Waters of the band Pink Floyd is about depression, mental health and drug use in the music culture.
They write about a person who focuses on escaping his own mind because he can t bear what is going
on in the outside world. The band mate retreats to his inner self and is having conflict with the
physical world. Comfortably Numb is a song (in it s generation) that most people, who were having
problems, could relate to by taking drugs to dull the pain. In the opening of the song the writer s band
mate is conclusively depressed. He has lost touch with reality and is trying to be awoken by the
doctor. The doctor says, Hello, hello, hello/ Is there anybody in there?/ Just nod if you can hear me./ Is
there anybody home? Using words like nod and asking the question anybody in there, the doctor is
obviously trying to arouse him and looking for a response but their friend is mentally closed off from
the physical world. The doctor speaks to him again, Come on now, I hear you re feelin down/ Well, I
can ease your pain and get you on your feet again. The words feelin down references the depression
and/or pain he is feeling. The doctor can ease his pain and get him on his feet again leaves the person
to believe that the doctor can fix any of his ailments with medication. The doctor is brought is brought

The Effect Of Environmental And Genetics On The...
One of these oldest arguments in the history of psychology is the debate of whether or not ones
environment or genetic background plays more of a role in the development of a person. Both nature
and nurture have been proven to play an important role in one s development. Nature is what we think
of as pre wiring and is influenced by genetic inheritance and other biological factors. Nurture is
generally taken as the influence of external factors after conception e.g. the product of exposure,
experience and learning on an individual. Throughout this paper the effects of environmental and
genetics factors on a person will be discussed, and one will learn how they aid in the development of a
person. It has long been established that certain physical characteristics are biologically determined by
genetic inheritance. Color of eyes, the texture and color of one s hair, pigmentation of the skin and
certain diseases are all a function of the genes we inherit. Other physical characteristics, if not
determined, appear to be at least strongly influenced by the genetic make up of our biological parents.
Characteristics such as height, weight, hair loss, life expectancy and vulnerability to specific illnesses
are positively correlated between genetically related individuals. These facts have led many to
speculate as to whether psychological characteristics such as behavioral tendencies, personality
attributes and mental abilities are also established in an individual before he is even

Comparing Home Burial And Tuft Of Flowers
Individuals perspective often differs in the consequences of a new finding as a natural human instinct.
Robert Frost s poems Home Burial and Tuft Of Flowers explores this idea. A similar idea is also
expressed in Jean Giono s short story, A Man Who Planted Trees where the narrator discovers the
effects of one s relationship with nature.
Robert frost s Home Burial has serious ramifications on the persona according to their perspective.
This is best explored when the persona says, He saw her from the bottom of the stairs before she saw

Robert Frost s Tuft of Flowers explores, through the persona s perspective how every individual is

  • 3. Socratic Introverts So what did you think of the ending? she asked. She was my junior year AP Lang teacher and our class was having a Socratic seminar about the book we had been reading, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. It was a great read, not like many of the other novels we read that year. I just didn t feel the same way about the discussion we were having. With every remark my fellow students made, I felt like I could only agree with their statement. Being the introvert I am, my reservoir of things to say only shrank in size and I lacked confidence in any new thoughts that formed. It s not like other students were making insightful comments that I could bounce of off either. It seemed so difficult to maintain a discussion on something as broad as the ... On the night of February 27, 1933, Jonas heard from and underground source about Marinus van der Lubbe, a Dutch communist setting the Reichstag building on fire. By getting rid of any form of competition, Hitler would be the sole option to lead. On June 30, 1934, the Night of Long Knives, the assassinations began and after about three to four weeks they had successfully purged the Nazi party of any threats. When President Hindenburg died of natural causes on August 2, 1934, Hitler became the sole ruler of Germany and now nothing stood in his way. Jonas had finally accomplished his goal to get Hitler in power and was proud of this achievement. Jonas had earned significant praise from Hitler for being his aid for many years, that he made Jonas second in command of the Nazi Party. This triumph inspired an official ceremony that proved to the rest of the members of his new status. Because these sites allowed children to gain access to sites that contain media that is harmful to minors, and also allow predators to access the email of minors it was deemed necessary that they be blocked on computers that gave minors access to the internet in public schools and libarays (Children s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), 2011). • 9. Ancient Egyptian Tombs Abstract Studying ancient Egyptian tombs have long been an important source of information regarding many aspects of Egyptian religion. Walls of New Kingdom tombs are often decorated with plenty of painted religious scenes. While they were primarily private structures containing images selected by the person who expected to be housed there for eternity, the funerary monuments also reflect religious beliefs. While numerous researches focused on many of the religious scenes depicted on the walls of ancient Egyptian tombs, no one focused on the knife holders scenes. Hence, the current study focused on knife holders scenes depicted on the walls of both royal and private tombs dating back to the New Kingdom at Thebes. The current study ... Is he a true girls man if he sees all the possible things that could go wrong during the date? One would argue that his views and stereotypes are all wrong and race does not determine promiscuity. One can argue that all his views about women are due to what he heard and not based on his experience of being a male. As a guest, Odysseus is very selfish and inconsiderate towards his hosts. Throughout the duration of Odysseus absence, the suitors are treated well, and in response to this, they refuse to leave when asked. The suitors are fed and housed, and after a number of years they overstay their welcome. In response to this Telemachus, prompted by Athena, informs the suitors that his father is returning home and they are all to vacate Odysseus home. The suitors, in turn, ignore him and continue to eat drink and be merry, at the cost of Telemachus and Penelope s household. What are the consequences of these actions taken by the suitors? Although the primary consequence is their death, they also lose the hand of Penelope. None of them are able to pass the test of stringing the bow of Odysseus except Odysseus himself. This is followed by the main consequence of the suitors execution at the hands of Odysseus and Telemachus. By not respecting the hospitality given by Penelope, they set the stage for their own deaths. This is quite possibly a reference to the fact that they saw hospitality as a way to honor the gods; giving hospitality to a stranger was the same as offering it to a god. Robotic space missions are more efficient and cost effective, which makes them a better choice going into the future of space exploration. Specifically with missions to Mars, it opens the possibility of one way trips to this exciting planet, which would dramatically decrease the amount of money needed to fund missions. Lawrence Krauss, an American Canadian theoretical physicist, has stated that a large burden on manned space missions is having to transport fuel for two trips, there and back again (James Randi Foundation, 2011). Elon Musk has agreed with this argument in that he has said a rocket is essentially just a container for liquid oxygen and fuel, of which robots would need only half the fuel and require none of the oxygen for respiration purposes (Anderson, 2012). It means your opinion about a situation can be based on your own experience (or lack of experience) with it. For example, up until the day my wife said our marriage was over, I assumed many of my friends got divorced because of their work prioritization, activities, or some other faulty decisions they made. Today, I m divorced and sitting on the other side the issue. I realize that divorce can happen to anyone due to any number of causes. Divorce can be the result of sudden, clearly recognizable events or slow building, almost imperceptible issues which erode the foundation of marriage over time. It seems that for many men, the choice to divorce isn t theirs because about 70% of divorces today are initiated by women.[1] While we may not have the power to stay married, we do have the power to define our role as a parent after a divorce. Defining that role begins with understanding the baseline and the changes ahead. Self Assessment Fathers today spend more time taking care of their children compared to previous generations. • 27. The Gilded Age And The Second Industrial Revolution The Gilded Age is known as the Second Industrial Revolution because of the major increase in factories and production (Foner 593). During this time the United States controlled more than a third of the world s industrial output. This led to approximately 11 million people moving from the rural areas to the city, and another 25 million immigrants moving into America (Foner, 596). Because of the increase in population, freedom and safety were harder to maintain. Freedom was hard for everyone who was not a wealthy, white male. This was proven when the Indians of the Gilded Age were fighting for their freedom. One major occurrence was the famous saying from Chief Joseph, Let me be a free man . Chief Joseph was the leader of the Nez Perce (Foner, 615). He wanted to confront an issue that not only his tribe but also other tribes were struggling with, which was being confined to reservation life (Foner, 615). This was the U.S. s first example of a strike. Many more strikes occurred in the progressive era when women were battling gender roles and individuality. Women established feminism , which was a gender liberation of females during the progressive era (Foner, 703). Another major idea of freedom was presented in the workplace called The Miner s Freedom (Foner, 607). It was established in the Gilded Age for worker s economic independence (Foner, 607). The Miner s Freedom was for the trustworthy, skilled workers who did not have to have managerial supervision at all times (Foner, 607, 610). In the progressive era, there was Fordism. Fordism was a step towards mass production, which fueled the economic system by having more of the same products for the consumers (Foner, 693). Freedom was hard to maintain because of political corruption and the mishandling of the economy. Overall, the bourgeois dominated the proletariat. Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, and William Vanderbilt are three examples of political figures. Carnegie had steel company, in which he was in control of every aspect from raw materials to manufacturing, distribution, and transportation (Foner, 599). Rockefeller bought out all of the competing oil companies and controlled every facet of them as well (Foner, 599). Vanderbilt controlled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Julius Caesar As A Source Criticism In this essay I will be describing, discussing and evaluating my chosen source. I will be using the references that I have chosen, in order to present a clear and concise source criticism, coming to a well rounded conclusion at the end. The source is taken from the book Commentarii de Bello Gallico , which was written and edited by Aulus Hiritus and Julius Caesar and was published around 58 49 BC, sometime after Julius Caesars death. It is a secondary source which describes Julius Caesar s first hand account of the nine year period that he spent fighting the Celtic and Germanic people in Gaul. The book was written in order to inform the Roman people of the Gallic Wars from a source that they trusted, however it is biased meaning that Caesar may have had particular motives for writing it thus meaning that the content may also be influenced by Caesars motives. Caesars chronology of Commentarii de Bello Gallico allows for him to react to the shifts in Rome s political climate (Timothy, R. Kimbrough, 2014, p. 3), which means that the source I have chosen to critique was written to suit Caesars immediate needs (G. Woolf, 2011, p.54), suggesting that the portrayal of joy that Caesar has been bestowed with could be exaggerated in order to fit the political climate in Rome, allowing him to maintain his position within the Senate and with the Roman population. The book contains information on the Gallic Wars and its purpose is to persuade the Roman people that Caesars appointment in Gaul and his actions during the Wars occurred in order to benefit the Roman state and the Roman people, regardless of the legality with which they were brought about (Timothy. R. Kimbrough, 2014, p.8). However, the source also suggests that Caesar was popular and was a worthy figure head for the Roman Empire because he was prepared to face the unknown (H. Schadee, 2008, p.170), presenting the his readers that he was then welcomed by the towns and their people connotes that he was expressing his influence and power outside of Rome. The meaning of this source is that Caesar is attempting to exert his reputation and power over the Senate by recounting his actions during the Wars as for the benefit of the Roman empire, to the ... • 30. The Discovery Of The Roman Empire Figure 9 A junction chamber cum settling tank on the Anio Novus diverting water into the Aqua Marcia and Aqua Claudia Unfortunately the problem with the Piscinae was that they would only take care of large sediments like sand and grit. Sediments on the order of 1µm have a settling speed ω of infinity (Equation 1), for example clay particles, which do not need flowing water to stay in colloidal suspension. So the water reaching Rome would still be turbid. (Frontius Legacy p36 37) Despite arches and bridges being the most popular way of visualizing a Roman aqueduct, they constituted less than 6% of the total length of the Roman aqueducts {frontinus legacy}. Most of the aqueducts length was in channels or pipes underground, which on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The floor and sides of the channels were plastered with water proofing made of cement interspersed with miniscule fragments Roman pottery. This waterproofing was called opus signinum and was generally 0.05 to 0.1 m thick. The average size of the channels was only vaguely related to the average water delivery expected of that section. The primary sizing consideration for these channels was for maintenance, so a man could enter it. {Roman aquae water sup Hodge p93 95}. Figure 10 Excavation of the aqueduct showing the inspection manhole, masonry walls and stone roof When the duct reached a canyon or a valley and following the contour of the land was impractical, viaducts or bridges were constructed to maintain the steady gradient (Figure 11). Figure 11 Diagram of viaduct These bridges were built from locally available building materials, like limestone or tufa, and hence had a maximum height limit empirically determined by the Romans to be around 50 m {RA WS hodge p129}. Bridges were preferred over reverse siphons for valley crossing for a few reasons; the materials for the bridge were quarried locally, so there was no need to transport large quantities of heavy lead long distances from the mines to the build site, leading to a significant drop in building cost; construction with brick and cement required lower skilled labor, like slaves or semi skilled laborers, than working with lead pipes which required skilled welders to join ... • 31. Technology In The Fertile Crescent Technology, in the form of weapons and transport, provides the direct means by which certain peoples have expanded their realms and conquered other peoples (Diamond 241). In the modern world, weapons seem to define the outcomes of wars. Technology motivates the daily lives of people internationally. Throughout history, weapons and technology have led to major conquests and growths of human civilizations. After 11,000 B.C., technology in the Fertile Crescent developed immensely. Inventions including flint blades for harvesting, baskets and containers for collecting crops, and underground storage pits made it possible for food production to occur. These cumulative developments constituted the unconscious first steps of plant domestication (Diamond 111). Utilizing the further geographical advantage of rich soil, people of the Fertile Crescent leapt into the world of food production. Food production, in turn, yielded large food surpluses stored in baskets, allowing the society to move toward a sedentary lifestyle and a more organized, specialized community. • 34. The Effect Of Environmental And Genetics On The... One of these oldest arguments in the history of psychology is the debate of whether or not ones environment or genetic background plays more of a role in the development of a person. Both nature and nurture have been proven to play an important role in one s development. Nature is what we think of as pre wiring and is influenced by genetic inheritance and other biological factors. Nurture is generally taken as the influence of external factors after conception e.g. the product of exposure, experience and learning on an individual. Throughout this paper the effects of environmental and genetics factors on a person will be discussed, and one will learn how they aid in the development of a person. It has long been established that certain physical characteristics are biologically determined by genetic inheritance. Color of eyes, the texture and color of one s hair, pigmentation of the skin and certain diseases are all a function of the genes we inherit. Other physical characteristics, if not determined, appear to be at least strongly influenced by the genetic make up of our biological parents. Characteristics such as height, weight, hair loss, life expectancy and vulnerability to specific illnesses are positively correlated between genetically related individuals. These facts have led many to speculate as to whether psychological characteristics such as behavioral tendencies, personality attributes and mental abilities are also established in an individual before he is even ... Robert Frost s poems Home Burial and Tuft Of Flowers explores this idea. A similar idea is also expressed in Jean Giono s short story, A Man Who Planted Trees where the narrator discovers the effects of one s relationship with nature. Robert frost s Home Burial has serious ramifications on the persona according to their perspective.
