2. Equilibrium
At the start, the audience will see a funeral taking place and it will be a father that has died. Then it fast forwards to
the family going on holiday in Canada and they all stay in a log cabin together. It shows the son looking around the
area and he is gone for more than two hours.
Disruption
He hasn’t come back, the mum goes out to look for him and they can’t continue their search because they have
discovered a forest fire. Police, detectives and firemen are called to the scene and the fire eventually goes out and there
is no siting's of the boy named Morgan. The week following the fire, missing posters are put up by the family and the
police do everything they can to find evidence. But then they come across six small bones that they believe belong to
the missing boy but they have no fire damage on them. This is because, the twin brother dug them up from another
child’s grave to make it look like Morgan was dead and at this point, the audience won’t know where the bones have
come from and won’t know of the twin brother. A couple of weeks later, Rose is reading the newspaper and finds a
picture of her son Morgan and who she believes is her husband. She calls the police and tells them that they have to
go to the fair straight away because she believes her child is alive. She starts seeing images of her husband and
suddenly faints. She wakes up in a hospital room and wants to understand what happened last night and if her husband
is really dead.
Resolution
She goes home and she looks back at the newspaper article and realises the man in the photo doesn’t have a scar under
his right eye like her husband does. She calls the police and questions if her husband really did die. The police look
and check all the files and confirm that her husband has died but through their searches they find a man that looks
similar to her husband and who has the same birthday. They discover that from birth he was put into care then into an
asylum. They eventually track him down and he is in an abandoned house with Morgan, the missing boy. They take
Morgan into care and go to the police station to question the husband’s twin brother. The brother wanted to take
Morgan because he is the only family that he has left and wanted to take away what his brother loved the most as he
was never loved himself.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN OUR FILM,
USING TODOROV’S THEORY.
3. The genre of our film is a mix of crime, psychological and mystery. We also
researched the film Prisoners and we were influenced by this film because it
was a similar genre to ours. The elements that we looked at in Prisoners was
the way certain characters were presented and the way the story line was done.
This film was well written and the audience didn’t know what was going to
happen throughout and we wanted to add that suspense and tension to our
film as well. We looked at the title sequence for Taken and we researched the
film. We also wanted to look at this film because it revolved around someone
going missing and a murder and we wanted to include these elements in our
film.
THE GENRE OF OUR FILM AND WHAT
OTHER TITLE SEQUENCES WE
LOOKED AT WHICH ARE OF A SIMILAR
GENRE.
4. TARGET AUDIENCE FOR OUR
FILM
The target audience for our film is people 15 and over. We wanted to target an audience like
this because they would appreciate the whole concept of the film and also some of the
footage that appears in the film would be too graphic for people under 15. Also people under
15 wouldn’t understand the story line of the film and may get confused with what is going on.
People at this age are most likely to watch these sort of films as they are interested in these
topics and its issues that are happening in everyday life.
5. WHO WILL STAR AND DIRECT
THE FILM?
• Paul Dano is going to star in our film as the twin brother and he is the brother of the
husband that has died.
• Courtney Cox is going to star in our film as the wife and she has lost her son and her
husband in the film which makes her a widow. In the film she is trying to get her son back.
• Leonardo DiCaprio is going to star in our film as the main police officer/detective. He has
no relation to any of the characters. He is just called to the scene when the forest fire starts.
• We have chosen to pick James Wan to direct our film as he is best known for directing some
of the best thrillers and horrors such as The Conjuring and Insidious.
6. HOW MUCH MONEY WILL THE FILM
COST AND HOW MUCH MONEY WE
INTEND OUR FILM TO MAKE AND
WHY? WHICH FILM COMPANY WE
WANT TO PRODUCE OUR FILM.
Our film is going to cost 50million pounds too make and produce. This is because we are going
to have Leonardo DiCaprio star in our film as the man police officer/detective. Our film is also
going to have a high budget because of all the props that we are going to use. We intend for our
film to make 70-75million pounds overall because of the stars that are in our film. Also the genre
of our film is very popular amongst the public and we have selected a good target audience for
our film. We want momentum pictures to produce our film as they are based in England but they
have also produced American films like Sinister and Insidious which are similar to our genre of
film.
7. We would want to release our film between September and October because
we looked at Prisoners which is a similar genre to our film and we researched
into the film and saw that they made more money than their budget on both
UK and USA opening weekends. We don’t want to release it on Halloween as
it isn’t a horror and there would be other scary films that would be in
competition with our film. During the film, the family just come back from
their holiday which was in the summer which is why we chose to release the
film after the holiday as it reflected the time period that our film is set in.
WHEN WILL OUR FILM BE
RELEASED AND WHY?
