Pre-Job meeting – Work permit if unusual or heavy lift.
Plan the lift; know where the load will be landed.
Lift the load from supply to the rig
Bad weather/ Sea condition

Damaged / Broken lifting equipment

Use end links, shackles and rings which are large enough to
hang freely on the crane’s hook.
Ensure that the hook is placed above the center of gravity of
the load.
Landing tubulars on the rig’s deck Dropping load.
No correct hand signal/ VHF failure.
Failure of lifting equipment.
Load jerking across the deck.
Load snagging/catching on another equipment/object.
Never get under a suspended load and keep out from under
the crane boom. Warn people passing under the load.
Use lifting gear with correct SWL and current color code.
Only one banksman using standard signal. Good
communication between the crane op. and the banksman.
VHF must be checked and banksman posted in crane op.

2. Caught/trapped between load and other equipment on deck.
Trapped hands and fingers.
Damage to the rig’s equipment.
Slack in the bundle. Tubulars rolling.
Never place yourself between the load and stacked
equipment. Be sure to get an escape route.
Move away from the landing zone until the bundle is fully
rested on the deck.
