2. The front cover denotes a black and white colour
scheme, the white distinctively signifies the foreground
and the black being the background. This visually is very
eye catching having a bold, defined effect, the consumer
focuses more on the abstract work in the design. The
colours are opposites but also this makes them work
well as a combination. Black and white has a slightly old
feel to it and can show darkness and light. This connotes
The Black and white approach of thinking in society, The
digipak is very divided an the music will therefore be
very unpredictable, exciting and ambitious. The header
denotes a child like written font spelling out the bands
name. it is circled in crisp white. The messy and almost
confusing font connotes messy handwriting, possible
that of a young child. Its erratic and random which links
to the actual image selected for the cover. Its strange
but creative and very interesting to the naked eye. Maybe
the Child like handwriting links with the Baby pictured in
the persons head, creating synergy. The Smoking pipe is
shown giving of fumes which are butterflies. This
suggest that the pipe is giving off good scents/ and/or
objects and not having negative effects. Everything in
this cover resembles the opposites of things,
Contradicting reality. The cover denotes a mans face
made up of cogs, pillars and mechanical works. This
connotes a human body but with robot features, its
visually concerning, slight spooky. Suggesting more than
meets the eye? People can take from this band they are
innovative, their music will be interesting in the aspects
of strange and new.
Front cover
3. Digipak inside panels
The inside of the Digipak presents us with 2 panels, both using the same conventions the front cover provided in aspect
of colour scheme and style. This creates synergy giving the digipak a professional look and preventing an fake/odd
appearance. The left panel is split into a collage of tiled segments. They all feature a separate image. They all show a
separate part of the body modified and zoomed in on, it creates a intense feeling of interest given its bizarre nature. The
tiled design connotes that of a window, its well presented, elegant and defined. This can suggest I am delving into their
universe, their window. I have opened the digipak and found the bands world they want to present to its fans.
The right panel Denotes a foetus inside a mechanical cog, this is the cover picture for the CD as this panel is where the CD
has been placed. This fascinating selection of imagery Connotes maybe this CD will breed a new aspect of music. The
foetus shows this and means something is being born, in this case new music for the band Soen. The spinning cog
connotes mechanical works or machinery. Therefore I can suggest combined with the cogs and the foetus that This design
is trying to show the progression and change of something new. New music that is changing and working its way to its
fans. It has very deep meanings that will possibly confuse its fans but also attract people to buy the CD because of its
intriguing nature.
4. Digipak back cover
The back cover
denotes a series of
Names, credits and
company logo’s. The
Biggest font text is
the band names (par
the track list) and the
smallest are the
rights and reserves.
This is because the
public will pay less
attention to the
company details etc
and the Bands names
are more desirable.
The design purposely
stands out key text
that is more
interesting to fans
than producers. The
Songs are the largest
Text, more available
to understand in
usage of the digipak.
The Panel is bordered
with a frame in the
context of the rest of the
digipak style, connoting
synergy and the panels
are of corresponding
nature, being more
professional. The spine of
the frame denotes a gene
strand and what appears
to be a eye in the corners.
This connotes human like
features, the building
blocks of a person.
Similar to the
characteristics the digipak
shows throughout
presenting various human
features in a strange way.
The gens can suggest
that the artist is
experimenting with
music, the creation of a
new style/type of music
in the industry.
