2. Course Instructor—
My name is Steve Maybee and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach this class. I
have been working in the field of psychology for many years, having first received my
Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College. For the past 14 years, I have
been working as a Counseling Psychologist with Alongside, a counseling ministry exclusively
aimed at the needs of missionaries and pastors. Education is a strong component of the
Alongside program and I have enjoyed daily opportunities to teach in that context. I have
also greatly appreciated the constant need to evaluate the principles of psychology from
my perspective as a committed follower of Jesus Christ. Prior to working for Alongside, my
wife and I served for 5 years as missionaries ourselves in Eastern Europe. We have 4
wonderful sons, whom my wife has been homeschooling for their entire educational career
to this point.
I am excited to share some of the basics of the Interpersonal Sciences with local students.
Since the Social Sciences are very values-laden fields, it is important to me to be able to
strive to assess and evaluate the statements that come out of the Social Sciences against
the foundational Truth of Scripture and to give students some important ideas and
principles to take home and discuss with their parents. I look forward to this journey of
discovery and adventure as we develop increased ability to discern truth from error and
learn to understand ourselves better and the areas of sin, struggle, challenge and strength
in each of our lives.
