looking like for you these days?
#Movies4MentalHealth
sleep

reading
Running and the Headspace App
Making sure I'm practicing good hygiene even on
bad/busy days!
Reading a book for pleasure not school
Running, pilates, meditating, coloring
PET TIME
Eat
snuggling with my cat
Bullet journaling!
I make my own planner basically but i get to
be creative

Characters with mental illness are
portrayed asā¦
#Movies4MentalHealth
#Movies4MentalHealth
#Movies4MentalHealth
Potentially violent or up/down all the time
Violent or aggressive
Either as villains or as normal people sometimes
unhinged
Romanticized
Troubled, dramatic, loved, unlovable, sad, humorous
alienated
Narcissistic, rebellious
Some true, some false

How have you experienced the concept of
"mental health" within your own cultural
communities?
You are lazy or weak
As something shameful
my family we talk about it, my in laws family "its all
in your head"
Openly in my family
As a stigma that couldnāt happen in our family
It's either not talked about or it is clinical talk
(medically related but not humanized)
Supported in my experience - most aren't as lucky
TW(invalidation, emotional ab*se): It isn't
recognized and actively invalidated and is seen
solely as dramatic and is used to belittle you

What makes it difficult to reach out
for help?
#Movies4MentalHealth
Speaking with someone
unworthiness
Guilt/shame, money, lack of support, scared
takes too much energy, don't want to be judged
embarrassment
shame
Fear of being judged
not wanting to feel or
appear weak
maintaining the image of high
functioning
fear or anxiety about
talking about it
been told someone would help but then they
didn't
Accessible resources and feeling
invalidated
feeling as though things
can't impove

What did you think?
How did you feel?
#Movies4MentalHealth
Wonderful picture of anxiety! Wow.
I found myself holding my
breath watching it
It was beautifully made.
I felt myself tense up. I also felt
that it was relatable and
accurate
A bit anxious with how accurate the
feelings were to what I've personally
experienced during a panic attack.

What are some practices that help
support your wellness?
#Movies4MentalHealth
journaling , talking to trusted friends
Go to a calm place and just relax
movement, journaling, calming scents
Music helps me too!
aromatherapy
music
being outside

What did you think?
How did you feel?
#Movies4MentalHealth
tightness
tension and tightness
āPlease donāt suffer alone, someone will listenā - hit
me hard and is SO powerful!
That can be hard to believe sometimes
when youāre in it
If we support the people around us when
we're feeling good, when we don't feel
good, there will be support there for us
Empathy, inspiration

#Poetry4MentalHealth
How can we support ourselves and
others?
#Movies4MentalHealth
Put your mental health ļ¬rst
just show up-for yourself and others
movement, journaling, calming scents
Being open, honest and not letting stigma rule your
life
Taking care of yourself so that you can be there for
others to listen
Pay attention to what is being said and unsaid by your family,
friends, peers, students. Don't be too busy to notice those around
you
Verbally asking what someone needs ie if they want/need to talk about
it or if they need distractions, etc.
Sometimes being a listening ear is all someone needs
Mental health is a daily practice, not just in the low moments
listen when they say they are worried about you. Sometimes you
don't see what is happening but they can.
sometimes u just need a hug
