In the hispanic community it is NOT talked about
Hispanic community - seen as being weak
Latino community- ignored- your crazy
hispanic/latino - mental health does not exist LOL
Mental illness is seen as laziness in the hispanic community
latinx ~ they don't (talk about it)
Mental illness is seen as laziness in the hispanic community
yes so true, something is wrong with you if you need therapy
Filipino community and mental illness is seen as a weakness
white/Catholic upbringing. Silence, shame, ignore
its a taboo I am Mexican
Mental health is not a commin topic we discuss and in my experience
being part of the Latinx & Catholic community we are told to just live
with it and mental health is not supported
vietnam- the person just keeps silent and lives w it.
How have you experienced the concept of "mental health"
within your own cultural communities?

I'm from a middle eastern background and they think you're just
complaining and bringing down their positive thinking
I'm white and my family always talks about mental health when it
comes to it generally but when it comes to us they struggle with
asking for help
I'm half puerto rican and half iranian (latin & middle eastern) both my
parents have dismissed my issues until they realized it was serious
^^ I'm mixed Mexican and white so the different backgrounds and
understandings of mental health clash

What makes it difficult to reach out
for help?
#Movies4MentalHealth
feeling bothersome
feeling judged
not being taken seriosuly
accepting we need help
Barriers to access MH care
feeling my problems are not serious enough
having to be vulnerable
people hold that against you for a long time
afraid that's something is wrong with me
Misinformed
Feeling ungrateful
feeling like i could not solve it myself
losing friends who don't want a friend with issues
not even sure what is our issue

how learning about the past expereince will or
perhaps it will help
She felt so alone - emotional
i thought that was very raw thank you for that
i felt loss
Sad
relatable
What did you think? How did you feel?

#Movies4MentalHealth
Wow so moving!!
I cried
That one made me cry
So beautiful!
I loved the inner child connections
So relatable, felt seen
emotional and so powerful
i thought about my younger self
I cried and was emotional because it was so relatable
I love that depiction of connecting to and speaking with your childhood
self and telling them what they need to hear
it echoed within me
Heart warming
Incredibly moving
Moved short film
you being the one to protect your childhood self when no on else did
Encouraged to practice more self-compassion and acceptance

How can we support ourselves and others?
#Movies4MentalHealth
Listen when someone opens up without
judgement
check up on loved ones often
to truly listen and understand
Normalizing and validating feelings
listening, feeling, and observing
encourage them
listen
reparent yourself and provide yourself
with the acceptance and love you
haven't gotten from others
reach out
Make mental health a normal
conversation
Active listening 🎉
don't judge
have a talk with yourself in the mirror
affirmations
don't force others to talk or feel but
let them know you are there for them
when they are ready
Compassion for anything you're
feeling even if you don't understand it
reduce stigma
don't fight yourself
Taking care of ourselves to take care
of others
Being vulnerable for yourself first
and showing others that this is the
truest way to be strong
yes, being vulnerable is so powerful
for me personally BECAUSE it is so
hard
