What has self-care been
looking like for you these days?
a lot of walking, even in the cold. taking
walks with my dog and appreciating the
fresh air
Forgiving myself
Making sure to get out of the apartment
to enjoy the nice weather
I watch my comfort shows!
getting outside for at least an hour a
day
Reading books, getting outdoors even
just to sit outside with a cup of tea
Sitting in the sun and listening to music

#Movies4MentalHealth
mental health is not addressed in my culture!
in black community we dont talk about it. told you are weak or
just to get over "it"
I have felt supported in my family as my mom was a
LCSW...whereas my husband's family is a whisper
I'm first generation Bangladeshi American, my parents
immigrated from Bangladesh. While mental health is a huge
part of my career and my passions, my father stands by his
position "The mind is a powerful thing" Which comes from his
judgment that anyone can snap out of it
You are weak if you just can't handle it or get over it.
How have you experienced mental
health within your culture?

What makes it difficult to reach out
for help?
#Movies4MentalHealth
sometimes you do reach out but they
respond in a negative way
Bad past experiences with therapy
family stigma
being afraid that you be validated
society ideas that therapy is only for
"crazy people".
feeling like doing so is admitting
something is wrong

How did you feel?
Intensity
Intergenerational trauma interests me because
many of us have that without realizing it. I do family
history/genealogy and you can see the trauma
through the research.
brought out shame for me
I feel angry
Sad and anger
Trauma, tension, fatigue that its still a battle
