magazine.
3. • My choice of title, being the word ‘RAGE’ connotes my audience for my magazine as been
edgy, slightly radical and hedonistic and overall ‘cool’ (in terms of what that word actually
means). Also the fact that it is in capitals, and spaced out on the page makes it stand out
more and catches the attention of the reader, making it not hard to miss on the shelf. Also,
the choice of font was chosen purely for the reason that it was exactly what I had originally
sketched during the pre-production period, and that it looks edgy and sort of futuristic and
cool in that sense. ‘New’, a font that I would have never seen on a magazine before. This
would connote my audience well, the type of girl who doesn't like mainstream music or
clothes, would shop in vintage stores rather than the high street, and would look the way she
wanted to look rather than following trends of copying her friend’s style. She would be
hedonistic, but sensible and want to have fun yet still be cultured and educated. The font of
the title reinforces that dominant ideology of individualism and being ‘cool’ and new and
different.
4. • The layout and design of the magazine is structured and lined on the page, rather than being
dis-jointed or ‘messy’ on the page. The font style is carried through, with the titles of the
headings being spaced out like the title on the front cover and the feature font also being
consistent. I think this connotes a professional structured and organised side to my audience,
they would like everything to have clean lines, and a regularity to the contents in the
magazine, or anything for that matter. Maybe this would challenge the dominant ideology of
my audience being too cool and edgy and modern to expect or want a clear structured layout
for my magazine, would they have wanted a more interesting and different design or layout?
Something that would be wacky and considered new and cool? Rather just plain and simple,
with clean lines and a structured layout. However, I do think my audience would like it
because the fonts are still similar from the front cover and the pictures are also taken in the
same manner as before, with none of the models looking at the camera and looking beautiful
and glamorous.
5. • The types of stories and features in my magazine are similar to the ones I researched in
CLASH magazine, and concentrate mostly on the music that my audience would listen to and
be interested in. However, other subjects like fashion and news in the music industry would
feature, and obviously for fashion – my magazine would feature clothes and styles that my
audience would wear and would be keen on buying. My feature story is a new artist on the
music scene, and her music would be folky and indie – which would appeal to my audience.
She is also relatively the same age as my typical audience member, so some of the things she
was experienced, would relate to my audience and their lives.
• All this would connote that my audience would be highly interested in the music genre of my
magazine, and rather than the magazine educating them on this, it would be more on an
update on what’s going on with the artists and bands of this genre – my audience would be
highly in the know of everything else. My magazine would only be feeding to their interest
and would be on outlet for their enthusiasm and love for the genre of music.
