4. Q2. How does your media product
represent particular social
groups?
5. Contemporary R&B (also known as simply R&B) is a
music genre that combines elements of hip hop, soul,
R&B and funk.
The main image used is a strong, independent girl that
has the look of R&B and listens to it. As she can relate to
this type of music, it represents teenagers that are into
this music. Within some other magazines I think this type
of genre of music is portrayed in a negative light,
therefore I tried to use images that wouldn’t make the
artist seem overpowering or scary which I believe create
a better representative of R&B artists.

independent and strong women, the way she is
holding her hat and the dress code emphasises
the way women look, sexy yet she is not over
doing it. The see through blouse shows sex
appeal yet she is mostly covered up to create a
positive role model image.
The colour scheme used goes with the type of music
that my magazine promotes. It represents cool,
relaxed and calm young people that would be the
types of people that buy the magazine.
Although my magazine represents a particular social group I think that
the use of colour and girl in the image makes it accessible to a variety of
different people as she isn’t the stereotypical person to listen to R&B
music. However the pose she is doing is a look an R&B artist would use.

independence ‘look at me’ look while the clothes add to
the more sexual side of things yet she still look like a
positive role model for other girls,.
6. Q3. What kind of media
institution might distribute your
media product and why?
7. Billboard publisher would probably distribute my magazine as it
publishes other magazine such as Billboard which is similar in genre to
the music i portray within ‘The beats’
The world's premier music publication,
Billboard has served the entertainment
business since 1894.
IPC Media produces over 60 iconic media brands,
with print alone reaching almost two thirds of UK
women and 42% of UK men – almost 26 million UK
adults – while our websites collectively reach over
20 million users every month. IPC are a world wide publisher that
publish all sorts of magazine including
magazines like mine. This is why they
might publish my magazine as they
have abundance of experience in this
area, and as they already have
magazine under there name it would
enable them to get a wider base of
magazines.
8. Q4. Who would the audience be for
your media product?
9. The audience first wanted my magazine to be
For my magazine I chose to focus on R&B full of interviews and celebrity news along
music meaning that my audience would be side the music that is portrayed, I tried to add
people who would be interested in that this to the magazine but I thought it was more
genre of music. important to focus on the music first rather
than the celebrity side. They wanted it to be

look that teenagers look and try to follow.
The audience over all rated my magazine
Therefore I tried to interpret normal features
as good, it contains a majority of the things
of Other R&B music magazines to get the they wanted within it to contain and they
correct target audience. liked the versatility of it, the fcat it can
appeal to both boys and girls.
The age range I wish to target is teenagers
and young adults aged between 16-25, I have
tried to use features such as gig guides and
things they are interested in.
I also wanted the magazine to be accessible
to both males and females. Although I have
used a female Image on the front cover, the
colour scheme of blues, light blues and whites
are quite male dominated.
Although there is a particular style to my
magazine, I wanted to make my magazine
accessible to a wider variety of people
therefore I tried to use images and cell lines
that could be read and enjoyed by people that
aren't necessarily that into the genre of music
featured in my magazine ‘The beats’.

you have learnt in the progression

•I think the manipulation and editing of the
images used is better on my final magazine.
•The use of effects available have been used
more on the final magazine.
•Better use of Photoshop and in design to gain
the best overall product.
•Better use of camera shots and poses the
people do in my final magazine.
