2. What is
representation?
Representation is the description or portrayal of someone
or something in a certain way. In this presentation I have
analysed how I have shown the different representations
within my product. It includes the exploration of
stereotypes within social groups and how I have
embedded this within my product. This is what I will be
covering in a quick summary.
-Why both my models are female.
-Why they are wearing clothes relating to a club
atmosphere.
-What age range my magazine is aimed at.
3. Who is being
represented? My magazine is covering the genre of Dance music.
Within my 3 media products I have used my friends
Carly and Jess as they are the right age range I’m hoping
to appeal to and so hopefully helps to attract the right
audience to my magazine. My models are wearing
clothes that are stereotypically associated with a night
club which is where you will always hear dance music,
however it is suitable for my magazine. I managed to
achieve the particular through thoroughly researching
what clothes you would see night clubbers wear. By
wearing tight revealing dresses I am hoping that this
will attract males and females of around the ages of 16-
25 and I have backed this up by including artists that
also aim their music at that particular age range. My
images have been minimally edited to gain a sense of
realism within the magazine as well as including
thumbnail images of other featured artists which gives
the magazine a varied approach to who I am aiming this
magazine to. All the images are associated with having
fun and give a positive vibe to the magazine.
4. Representation:
My front cover.
My models are represented by appearing
fashionable and modern with fun added into it.
They are represented as being outgoing as they are
dressed to fit into a night club. This encourages the
right age group to buy this product as clubbing is a
well known activity for young people. Their dresses
help to emphasise the genre. The dresses also give
the impression of the models being sexy and so
helps to influence the way in which people
approach the magazine as models on the front of
magazine in the modern day are often young, sexy
and revealing to appeal to people who idolise
them.
5. Representation:
Contents page:
The images of my models are fairly similar in the
sense of their costumes which provides the sense of
familiarity to the reader. The images also give a
sense of getting up close and personal to them and
this is what young people want to read about. The
thumbnail images of Calvin Harris and Example
portray the vibe of fun and invite the reader into
buying and reading the magazine. The bright, bold
colours are also eye catching and is typically seen in
teenage magazines as bright colours provide a
variety of things to look at for the reader so they
don’t get bored with the magazine.
6. Representation: In the image of both my models they are
either smiling or making strong eye
Double page contact with the reader representing the
seriousness of what they want to achieve.
spread: In the image they are wearing the same
dresses that they have worn in the front
cover and the contents page to represent
the fact that they are the same people
they were before they became singers.
This sense of realty is what young people
want to relate to as many people in the
lime light often change their appearance
to suit their fans. Many female artists are
stereotypically seen with long hair and
this is what I am pleased with about my
models as they fit in with what people
normally see in magazines. Throughout
my 3 products I have used the variation of
ages with my models and other included
artists to appeal to the wider age range
that I hoped to appeal to.
