With all the evidence against him, his only appeal was to continually try to convince the jury that he
was in the hands of his leaders. He pleaded that because he was not an actual leader in the movement
he was not guilty. His active part in the final solution backfired on this claim. When Eichmann was
questioned about his feelings toward the allegations made against him during the trial, he explained
the difference in his mind between his legal guilt and his ethical guilt. Eichmann said I bear no
political responsibility and therefore I am not legally guilty. Though Eichmann was responsible for the
