Rube Goldberg Research Paper
Our challenge was to create a Rube Goldberg Machine that could ring a service bell. Additionally, we
needed to document and turn in a team and individual folder. Once we completed the evaluation of
Rube Goldberg s life, cartoons, and machines, my team worked through the challenges of trying to
pull together as a team and create a successful project.
Rube Goldberg was an inventor, engineer, sculptor, author, and cartoonist. Born on July fourth, 1883
in San Francisco, California, Rube grew up in an upper middle class family of Jewish heritage, and he
had shown a love for the arts ever since a young age. At the age of four, Goldberg spent a lot of time
creating things and tracing drawings. Sadly, his mother died when he was a teenager and ... Show

He even won the Pulitzer Prize for his work as an editorial cartoonist. Rube Goldberg s cartoons
depicted different types of complicated inventions. His success as a cartoonist started when he became
the San Francisco Bulletin s sports cartoonist. This point in time was when publishers began to
recognize his work. Rube also became the co founder of the National Cartoonists Society. It was an
organization that showed the importance of cartoons and cartoonists, which made Goldberg want to be
apart of it. (rube goldberg.com, n.d.). Ever since 1988, students have participated in the Rube
Goldberg MachineRube Goldberg machine contest that brings out the spirit of Goldberg and his
unique cartoons (Raga, 2016). Rube Goldberg noted that the machines were symbols of, man s
capacity for exiting maximum effort to accomplish minimal results (O Connor, 2015, A Simple Task,
para. 11). Over time, his cartoon inventions turned into real working machines, and millions of people
became inspired. An excellent example of what Goldberg s designs are and how they can operate is his
famous self operating napkin cartoon. It was a machine that used a chain reaction to accomplish a
simple task, and this was Rube Goldberg s vision for all the simple machines (National Center for

The Cremator Film Analysis
Contemporary efforts to represent Nazis often highlight their humanity (especially in museum
settings), largely as a warning to future generations that evil can be perpetrated by even the most
ordinary person. Herz s The Cremator, however, paints a very different picture of both Nazis and
human nature. Herz depicts Nazis and those susceptible to Nazi ideology as pathological beings, as
having tendencies and vices that create fertile ground for murderous or genocidal fantasies. Use close
readings of scenes to build an argument about how Herz represents the relationship between individual
psyches and evil. You may structure your paper by technique (going through various aspects of

Herz depicts Nazis and those susceptible to Nazi ideology, like Kopfrkingl, as having tendencies and
vices that create fertile ground for murderous and genocidal fantasies. This is contrary to the typical
notion regarded by his contemporaries that evil can be perpetrated by even the most ordinary person.
Kopfrkingl is immediately notably strange from his introductory spiel on vices and his eccentric
explanation of work at the crematorium and mannerisms allow him to be labeled as deranged.
Although Kopfrkingl hesitates to succumb to Nazi idealogy, partially due to his natural demeanor and
romantic beliefs, he eventually submits as he realizes the benefits and advantages of joining the party.
As Nazi s encroach on Czech borders, and tensions rise, Kopfrkingl naturally adopts the ideologies of
the Nazis and their urgency to establish a pure and new world order. Disturbingly, Herz brings to the
surface what lies under both the personal and historical madness and pustulous corruption of human
life, of which Kopfrkingl s diseased mind and Nazi Germany or Communist Russia are simply the
most visible

U.s. s Welfare Programs
Introduction
This paper explores five different sources that report information about the U.S. s welfare programs.
The sources discuss when welfare first came about as well as the changes that have occurred over the
years. This paper will inform, analyze, and state my opinion on the affect of welfare in the United
States. I will discuss the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act, the
Welfare to Work initiative, and Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF). This paper will state
my opinion of the welfare changes made in Congress in 1996, after giving you details of what was
changed in the welfare programs.
History of Welfare
One of the biggest helps of the government is known as welfare. The welfare I am referring to is the
financial help provided by the government to those in need. The United States Welfare programs and
policies were put into place to help make individuals more self sufficient, but it has been taken for
granted by far more people than it has been intended to help.
Aid to Dependent Children or ADC (later renamed Aid to Families with Dependent Children, AFDC)

support to mothers with children who were below the poverty line. These programs created are called
safety net programs, because they offer some type of coverage for those who find themselves without
jobs or income. These programs work differently in each state, and

Process Of A Bill Becoming A Law In The State Of Texas
The process of a bill becoming a law in the state of Texas can be harsh and brutal. With the number of
complicated steps accompanied by the forces of many different delay tactics, the process can prove to
be exhausting.
There are seven basic steps: Introduction, referral or assignment to house or senate committees,
considered in house or senate committees, placement of bill on a legislative calendar, considered on
the house or senate floor, signed or vetoed by governor, and lastly the bill does or does not become a
law.
Introduction of a bill requires both house and senate members to file a written bill with each of their
corresponding clerk members. The clerk then submits the bill to alphanumeric designation where it is
available to the eyes of lawmakers and citizens so that they make track its progress. There is a specific
time bills can be submitted. They can be submitted the Monday after the November general election.
This step can be influenced by many figures outside of Legislative. Interests groups influence
legislation as well as the Governor can influence legislation. At this point there are no delay tactics
that could prevent the bill from moving on to step two.
After introduction of the bill, the referral or assignment to house or senate then takes place. In other
words, the bill is assigned to standing committee. The Speaker and Lieutenant Governor appoint
committee members and chairs. This gives the presiding officers great power and these vital decisions

Persuasive Speech About Courage
Courage Do you want to know what the saddest thing in schools today is? Too many kids are being
bullied, and there are too many kids just standing there watching it happen. Most kids just watch
because they re afraid that if they do anything that the bully will target them. I think that if you stand
up and encourage other students, then bullying could be stopped in its tracks. First, what most kids
don t have is the ability to stand up for each other. One way to stop that is to help the victim.Talk to

Emperor Of China Self Portrait Of Kanghsi
The Emperor of China: Self Portrait of Kanghsi is a collection of the personal memoirs and writings of
the Qing Emperor Kangxi who ruled and expanded China during the late 17th century. Translated into
English by Jonathan D. Spence, Emperor of China provides a glimpse into the life of China s longest
reigning emperor during the beginning China s last ruling dynasty. Kangxi records his thoughts to
provide guidance to future generations of Qing emperors. The Emperor s writings served as evidence
of his life acting in accordance with both Chinese principles and Manchu principles. Emperor of
China displays Emperor Kangxi s philosophies on ruling through humility and the struggles of duality
he faced in maintaining the military tradition of his Manchu ancestors while at the same time
conforming to the Confucian principles of his Chinese court. Emperor Kangxi was born in 1654 and

`` The Birthmark `` By Nathanial Hawthorne
Nathanial Hawthorne writes a compelling story about a recently married scientist whose wife has a
blemish on her cheek. The Birthmark written in 1843 is a critique of domesticity, feminine sexuality,
and perfectionism. Cindy Weinstein takes the stance that The Birthmark is a critique of feminine
sexuality. Weinstein suggests, A key reason, then, that Aylmer wants to erase the birthmark is that it
signifies a sexuality with which he is deeply uncomfortable (123). This argument is seen throughout
Hawthorne s story, but Weinstein s argument can be taken a step further to deal with the root cause,
control. Aylmer is disturbed with Georgiana s birthmark due to the fact that it signifies her sexual
desires that he is unable to control.
Aylmer realizes that Georgiana s birthmark is troubling soon after their marriage and intercourse
together. Not a single man in Georgiana s previous relationships has had a problem with her
birthmark, but now that she has had sexual intercourse, Aylmer cannot stop having thoughts about her
birthmark. Hawthorne writes, After his marriage, for he thought little or nothing of the matter before,
Aylmer discovered that this was the case with himself (1). After their intercourse together, Aylmer
unlocks her suppressed feminine sexuality. When he begins to realize she also has the desires, he is
uncomfortable because it defies the culture belief that women do not have these perverse thoughts. As
soon as Georgiana lost her purity, Aylmer

Compromise Of 1877 Dbq Essay
The Compromise of 1877 showed a change in politics but not a change of heart or thought, this is
progressively shown through the political, economic, and social reforms through the segregation and
racism shown by the people in the later years. The segregation aspect can be shown through the court
case of Plessy v. Ferguson because it surrounded the idea of separate facilities or doorways, based on
race, this case was ruled constitutional because of the main idea of the situation showing that it was
separate but equal . Separate but equal in this court case, meant that the facilities were the same, but it
kept the two races separated. The years 1864 1877 was preceded by the Civil War, which was fought
between the Northern U.S. states and the Southern U.S. states, those of which seceded from the
Union. After this war, three amendments were passed, which are collectively called the Civil War acts.
These amendments dealt with the physical enslaving of others and whether or not they were free and

In the movie Brave directed by Brenda Chapman and Mark Andrews from Pixar shared a similar
storyline as The Little Mermaid which was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker from Disney,
is that they both brought up the cultural and societal expectations on gender roles. Similarly, in
between the two movies Brave and The Little Mermaid, the director focussed on the feminine aspects
of how society perceives a women and expects females to fulfill their roles. Furthermore, the overall
message of both movies is that parents and children need to listen and try to understand each other

David Lloyd George was a British prime minister during World War I. During this time period,
countries involved in the war went through rough times. This essay will discuss George s early life,
education, his political life, highlights of his ministership during the war, and his life after his
ministership and the war.
On Saturday the 17th day of January, in the year of our Lord, 1863, in Chorlton on Medlock,

when Lloyd George was only one, his dad died of pneumonia, forcing his family to move to his uncle

churches. Along with being a shoemaker and a minister, Richard Lloyd was also a strong liberal who
influenced George in his political life and his later life. Shortly after moving, George went to
Llanystumdwy National School for educational purposes. After going to Llanystumdwy Nation
School for a few years, he and his family decided that tutors would have more of an educational
influence on him.
In 1884, Lloyd George became a solicitor; he started his practice in 1885. It was also this year he
became politically active; he had campaigned as a Liberal in the 1885 election. On January 24, 1888,

Fairy Tales And Modern Stories Bruno Bettelheim Summary
Bruno Bettelheim and Maria Tatar both composed articles on the effects that fairy tales have on people
s lives. Bruno Bettelheim wrote the article Fairy Tales and Modern Stories. In that article he believes
that fairy tales are considered safe stories and provide mental stability to children when they find
themselves in tough situations. When Maria Tatar wrote her article Introduction to Fairy Tales she also

authors agree that fairy tales have mixed effects on people, they also have many disagreements in
between. Both authors do ultimately believe that fairy tales are important in children s lives, but there
are similarities and differences between these two articles that need to be established. Bettelheim and
Tatar both explain that fairy tales have certain effects on children at a young age, but they way they

Evaluation Of A Classroom Management
Classroom management is a set of methods and skills used by educators to assist students in being
more organized, alert, thoughtful, disciplined as well as being more academically productive.
Classroom management when used correctly and effectively can help teachers maintain and control
behaviors that may hinder learning for the class or a particular student, while at the same time
maximizing behaviors that enhance learning for the students (Classroom Management, 2014). A
practice that can contribute to an effective classroom management could be an entry routine. An entry
routine is a method that teachers use to establish a consistent schedule that begins when the students
enter the classroom each and every day. This routine could be pre arranged seat assignments, students
passing in assignments due, having books, paper and pencils ready or having a warm up activity at the
beginning of class. This type of routine helps maintain order in the classroom and avoids wasting
valuable learning time at the beginning of the class (Classroom Management, 2014). In addition to
entry routine, another excellent example of classroom management at the beginning of class can be a
Do Now. A Do Now is an activity that the students are given at the start of class, which is usually a

Key Results Of Testing For Ppp Essay
5.1 Introduction
Following the methodology section, this chapter is going to present the main findings of the PPP test
and relevant information, graphs and tables will be shown as well. The purpose of this part is to
provide key results of testing for PPP in order to facilitate the following detailed discussions. It is no
doubt that this section can be viewed as the core of the whole project because it depends on a variety
of econometric tools to evaluate the financial data. The findings consist of two major aspects: the one
is on the examination of the strong version of PPP, namely APPP; the other is on the test of RPPP, also
known as the weak form of PPP.
5.2 Findings of Testing for APPP
As stated earlier, the APPP is based on the law of one price, stating that the real exchange rate is equal
to one. The formula is written by: (5)
For the convenience of our research, the equation above can be simplified to: (6) where Et represents
the nominal bilateral exchange rate, Pt* is the CPI in Japan, Pt means the Indian CPI.
Before analysing, what should do is to transmute the raw data into the natural logarithm form.
According to Jia and Rathi (2008), the major cause of transformation is that taking natural logarithms
not only indicates the elasticity of economic variables, but eliminates the issue of heteroscedasticity
efficiently. If an econometric model is heteroscedastic, the test of significance for

The middle of the eighteenth century was the height of what became known as the ?Age of Reason?,
where people believed that thoughts and actions should be based on the material world. This
supported John Locke?s theories that a populace could legitimately revolt against a tyrannical

become increasingly oppressive due to their fear of an uprising. The desire for stability was shown in
the Church. However this gave many people more reason to feel the need for change as it said that
salvation lay in duty and obedience and that children were merely blank pages to be educated and
therefore gain decency and social responsibility. Dreams and imagination were distrusted and
discouraged. Lyrical Ballads broke through all this, encouraging imagination and telling us to learn
from the simplicity of children, therefore appealing to many people. The 1780?s saw lots of inspired
political and social movements with people hoping to rid the world of slavery, promote women?s
rights, protect workers, increase suffrage, promote tolerance and greater sexual freedom. Many of
these issues are present in Lyrical Ballads. ?Mad Mother?, ?The Thorn?, ?The Female Vagrant? and ?
The Forsaken Indian Woman? all call for better rights for women as it was society that really caused
their suffering in these poems. In ?The Thorn? the woman may never had killed her child with more

The Causes And Impacts Of Transnational Corporations
Transnational Corporations (TNCs), also known as Multinational corporations (MNCs), are businesses
that have subsidiaries in at least one other state other than their home state (Jackson, 2013) Due to
their reach they have a fairly significant role on global politics. They control the mass of the economy
and GDP of many states, place pressure on policy makers through their decisions and influence the
decisions of citizens through media. They, however, would not be able to function without the rules
and economic control states have to create a market place and media channels. This limits their power
to an extent but they still retain a position of power within the global political scene.
TNCs have had a massive growth post World War II with America dominating the international
market well into the 1960 s until Europe and Japan began to compete against them. In the modern
global market changes in political regimes and ideologies have allowed for a diverse market with
Eastern Europe and many other Asian countries finding their way in. China has made itself a super
power in international trade, manufacturing and export due to the cheap costs. Many Transnational
corporations have more worth than some states with Wal Mart being worth more than Israel, Poland
and many others. There is an estimated sixty one thousand TNCs that make up two thirds of the global
trade with a third coming from inter firm transactions (Raghavan, 1996). The states themselves take
advantage of the reach

Beverly Daniel Tatum Describes Racism As A System Of...
Beverly Daniel Tatum describes racism as a system of advantage based on race (pg. 107). Jean Baker
Miller believes that once a group is defined as inferior, the people above them or the superiors tend to
label them in various ways. In other words, blacks are considered less intelligent than whites. The
incarceration rates have grown tremendously since the last time someone can remember. The largest
jailer in the world is the United States. Philadelphia, however, has the nation s highest incarceration
rates. Surprisingly, 60% of them are still awaiting trial but 72% of them are black. Research has show

White people have it easy. Because white people are the dominant group they are able to do so much
more once they are out and having went to jail or committed a felon is just a mistake but for a person
of a different race, it defines their whole life and stays with them forever. Although all whites benefit
from racism, not all of us benefit equally (Tatum, pg.111). From this reasoning one can conclude that
not all whites are racist and not all black people or people of different race are prejudice. Yes, all white
people can benefit from racism in one form or another but we don t all benefit equally because white
people get caught for their mistakes to and pay the price for it but in the end, even the ones who did go
to jail for committing some type of crime still have it easier for most black people in the 21st century.
Active and passive racism is also relevant. Tatum describes active racism as being equivalent to
walking fast on a conveyor belt (Tatum, pg.110), which means the person engaged in active racism has
identified with the idea of white supremacy and is moving with it, basically its means that white
people are okay with it so they still continue to do it. Passive racism on the other hand is similar to
standing still on the walkway. Which is stating that passive racists see that racism is occurring but no
effort is being made to stop it or try to change it and are being moved in

HIV Epidemiology
For the epidemiology paper I chose to write about HIV. HIV is growing concern in the community and
too many people are uneducated about the seriousness of this disease. HIV is terminal illness; it will
eventually consume your life at some point. There are treatment options out there but being compliant
with the medication regimen is crucial to the maintenance and management of this disease.
HIV also known as the Human Immunodeficiency Virus; with HIV the virus replicates and attacks our
immune system causing it to go haywire. With the suppression of our immune systems it puts people

When we are caring for HIV patients in the community we as the nurse need to be able to identify the
mode of transmission of the disease. The agent would be what causes the infection of HIV. HIV is a
virus so therefore the virus itself would be the agent. A virus may have a spiny outside layer, called the
envelope. Viruses have a core of genetic material, but no way to reproduce it on their own. Viruses
infect cells and take over their reproductive machinery to reproduce (Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention [CDC], 2012). The host would be the person who became infected with the disease. These
patients have come into contact with someone who was infected with disease already. This could have
been due to cross contamination of blood, sharing needles during drug use, vaginally delivery of a
baby, or it could have even been through a blood transfusion; which is very, very rare. Environmental
factors would include the surroundings or conditions outside of the host that cause or allow the disease
to be spread. This would be any household that participates in the use of illicit drugs such as heroin.
Anyone who is in this type of environment is at risk due to old needles laying around, actually
partaking in the use of the drugs, or sharing needles with other people. Also an environment that
would put someone at risk would be a hospital setting. It is very possible for nurses especially to
accidentally stick themselves

Rise Of Athens Essay
In the 5th century BC the city of Athens is growing rapidly. The city of Goddess Athena will succeed
under the leadership of the famous Pericles, to experience the greatest glory that a city would ever
know. Pericles will be the one who will sign it and through his politics Athens will enter the so called
Golden Age .
He was the one who actually transformed Athens from a city state to a metropolis and gradually to an
empire. (Pericles, 2009)
All started with the Delian League which rendered Athens a dominant in the Hellenic area. As soon as
the treasury of the League was located in Athens there was a sudden development in many areas
including, constructions, trade, arts and culture. He had also made many social reformations allowing

Spartans were terrified of Athens evolution and were looking for a cause to interfere.
That cause will eventually come by the Corfiots.
The naval battle in Sivota in 433 BC will mark the beginning of the Peloponnesian War that lasted for
27 years. (Ancient Warfare, 2008) At the beginning of the war the Athenians had managed to keep
Spartans away, but a sudden plague resulted in the death of a major number of Athenians, including
Pericles himself. Soon enough his strategies were abandoned and as none of his processes had the
ability to lead the army.
The next day found Athens under the Spartan Sovereignty. The Peloponnesian War managed to
radically change the flow of history. It was probably the most destructive and those who took part in it
didn t remain unaffected. At the same it signed the end of democracy and the Golden Age.
Although the Peloponnesian War was the reason for the end of the Athenian Golden Age it would be
unfair to blame only the Spartans. Warfare was a usual thing in the ancient times as there was much
competition between city states. If we take into account the rule of rise and fall, the end of the Golden
Age would be inevitable and that was proved by the fact that when the Peloponnesian War was over
the new force in the Hellenic area, the Macedonians conquered the whole Greece, establishing a new
form of government, the

Freeman frequently used Government documents to tell some stories of these men and sometimes
interviews from various articlesto cross reference the amazing heroic rescue stories of some of the 500

during Operation Air Bridge. For instance,in the beginning he tells Mike McKool s story from the

from His summary of his account he provided in his unpublished manuscript (49). At the end of the
book he gives notes to prove that his facts or sources are creditable. He does supply enough info to

Case Of Foss V Harbottle
Name: Wong Ho Yin Cherry
UID: 3035050975
Introduction
Ho, Lo and Ko are the directors of Lemon Limited and it was agreed that the company s profits would
be distributed in three equal shares as directors remuneration. However, when the company turned less
profitable, Ho and Lo decided that Ko must forego profit in favour of capital growth of her investment
without getting her consent. When she requested to be bought out, Ho and Lo refused.
The relevant area of law in this case is unfair prejudice under minority protection. In this case, Ko
may petition court for relief on unfair prejudice grounds if the other two directors banned for from
getting her share of directors remuneration. She may also petition court for winding up order on just
and equitable grounds if she was not allowed to leave the company. It is important to consider whether
the conduct of Ho and Lo was both unfair and prejudicial and thus the petition shall not be prohibited
by the rules in Foss v Harbottle .

F1 Racing
Formula racing is a term that refers to various forms of open wheeled single seater motorsport. Its
origin lies in the nomenclature that was adopted by theFIA for all of its post World War II single seater
regulations, or formulae. The best known of these formulæ are Formula One, Formula Two, and
Formula Three. Common usage of formula racing encompasses other single seater series, including
the GP2 Series, which replaced Formula 3000 (which had itself been the effective replacement for
Formula Two).
Categories such as Formula Three and GP2 are described as feeder formulæ, which refers to their
position below Formula One on the career ladder of single seater motor racing. There are two primary

A Qualifying session is held after the last free practice session. This session determines the starting
order for the race.[43][44]
[edit]Qualifying
A typical pitwall control centre, from which the team managers and strategists communicate with their
drivers and engineers over the course of a testing session or a race weekend.
For much of the sport s history, qualifying sessions differed little from practice sessions; drivers would
have one or more entire sessions in which to attempt to set their fastest time, sometimes within a
limited number of attempts, with the grid order determined by each driver s best single lap, fastest (on
pole position) to slowest. Grids were limited to the fastest 26 cars and drivers had to lap within 107%
of the pole sitter s time to qualify for the race; the 107% rule (as it is commonly known) was re
introduced for 2011. Other formats have included Friday pre qualifying, and sessions in which each
driver was allowed only one qualifying lap, run separately in a predetermined order.
The current qualifying system was adopted for the 2006 season. Known as knock out qualifying, it is
split into three periods (or rounds). In each period, drivers run qualifying laps to attempt to advance to
the next period, running as many laps as they wish, with the slowest drivers being knocked out at the
end of the period and their grid positions set, based on their

Race and Ethnicity in the United States Still Matters
Race and ethnicity is a main factor in the way we identify others and ourselves. The real question here
is does race/ethnicity still matter in the U.S.? For some groups race is not a factor that affects them
greatly and for others it is a constant occurrence in their mind. But how do people of mix race reacts to
this concept, do they feel greatly affected by their race? This is the question we will answer
throughout the paper. I will first examine the battle of interracial relationship throughout history and

They had been taken away from their homes and forced to works as slaves. They often do not view
themselves as part of the American society and feel like outsiders. It seems that throughout history
racial minorities have not been highly welcomed or treated properly. Japanese interment camps are an
example of this. But can the affect of a person historical background have an affect on them today?
If a child had any form of black ancestry he would be considered black regardless if they were partly
white. This was considered the one drop rule. The child was not a pure white person therefore was
treated as someone of color. Today we have often forced multiracial groups to classify themselves as

Analysis Of The Rocking Horse Winner By D. H. Lawrence
This story is D. H. Lawrence s strongest indictment of materialism and his strongest demonstration of
the incompatibility of the love of money and the love of human beings. In Paul s unhappy family, his
parents marriage is unsatisfactory. His mother is sexually frustrated: She had bonny children, yet she
felt they had been thrust upon her. Clearly, she feels not fulfilled, but violated. The story addresses a
few of the topics Lawrence is most outstanding for well, some of them in any event. While it doesn t
include the same unequivocal sexuality that made Lawrence infamous in his day, much like Sons and
Lovers, The Rocking Horse Winner concentrates a considerable amount on the connection between a
mother and her child. The Horse Dealer s Daughter, Lawrence shows the recovery of a customarily
English society through a relationship between the town specialist and a young lady whom he saves
from conferring suicide. In this story, Lawrence surrenders the sentimental style that such a story
would commonly grasp by lighting up the profoundly clashing feelings of the two characters
Lawrence s enthusiasm for mother child connections mostly comes from his association with his own
mom, an informed lady who lamented her marriage to Lawrence s coal excavator father. Quite a bit of
her disappointed desire was exchanged onto her kids, and Lawrence s scholarly capacities were
developed under her care. Much the same as Lawrence s own particular experience growing up, The

Aristotle Voluntary Action Analysis
Aristotle continues to speak about virtue by bringing up actions that are voluntary and involuntary. He
then says that involuntary actions are done through ignorance or compulsion which would starts
outside the person. There are many situations in which both voluntary and involuntary actions can be
combined. He brings up an example of someone holding a family hostage and giving a person a
decision to do something bad. This person chooses, but also wants to do it to save their family. Since
the person wants to choose the best outcome, this is a voluntary action. This would be a noble act, but
it would make us do something bad. He also says that we should not do some noble things because it
may not be worth it. It is very hard to find where we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He says that children and animals are not in this category because they do not have the rational
thought. People would guess that choice relates to desire, but desire is in pleasure and pain where
choice is not. Choice is something that is within us and does not look at the end goals. Choice is how
we want to achieve something and it is not an opinion. Therefore, Aristotle says choice is definitely
voluntary. He then shifts to speaking that choice could be about deliberation. He says that there are
certain things we do not deliberate about, but the things we do deliberate about are the things that can
affect us. This deliberation can be seen more in the arts because it is more abstract than sciences.
When there is something unknown, we need to deliberate about it. Also, we look for the means to get
something rather than looking at the end goals. Deliberation helps us choose so it is part of choice and
desire. He then moves to talk about wishing. This is about how someone wants something. This has to
do with the means rather than the ends. Aristotle says that if we are moral, we want things that are
good, but if we are not moral, we would wish for something that seems to be good, but really is not.
Pleasure takes people of the moral track and they wish for something that seems good, rather than
what they should wish

Adelaide s Beaches Analysis
The coast is the buffer between terrestrial land and the marine, it is the boundary of where land meets
water which is known as the coastline. Tides, waves and currents are what help form coastlines.
However, when waves meet or crash on the shore, they erode the land, leaving behind tiny parts of the
sea such as shells, seaweed and marine life. Although, over the past 30 years central beaches are
continually eroding because sand is pushed along the coast by waves. (BAC Australia, n.d) Coastlines
are badly affected by erosion and The Coast Protection Board is urgently needed to protect and

Geological history has ancient records of Australia being connected to Antarctica land mass, being
apart of Gondwanaland. This mass of land was mainly above sea level, which began to change due to
the tertiary period because of extreme climates and erosion. Australia was separated from
Gondwanaland approximately 55 million years ago. (Department for environmental heritage and
Aboriginal Affairs, n.d) The separation of the continents occurred along the continent that is now
known as the southern boundary. (ibid) The what seems like simple separation of land caused huge
movements and resurfaced a lot of land. For example, the St Vincent basin which is located
north/south of Australia was dramatically changed and formed step able rocks, and the Adelaide hills
were also formed. Sea levels were also dramatically sunken 120 meters below the average level than
what sea levels show today. In the 21st century the movements still exist and happen daily, however,
that are at a very slow rate.

Crown s benefit. America had to deal with Taxation without representation in which the populace was

Princess Juliet
The brick road was dusty, The sky was clear, no clouds in sight, and the air felt so good. This was

The castle was tall, luxurious, and was so big it felt like water, it never ends, but it was lonely. Juliet s
parents had been fighting a lot and Juliet had no one to share her feelings with about the matter, so she
decided she wanted to do something exciting to get her feelings up. She decided to go out in the town.
Juliet had just met a young man named, Jake. He was tall, had long brown hair, and had eyes as blue

Richard Connell makes a clear point that not all people are the same. Some people think they re better
than others. This is often seen in literature. There are several short stories that discuss the topic of
excessive pride. Many authors have conveyed the themes that excessive pride is self destructive, can
change your life, and will come back to haunt you. In the short story, The Cask of the Amontillado,
Edgar Allan Poe conveys how excessive pride is self destroying. He shows how being too proud in

Gender Socialization Is The Process Of Learning Gender...
Why is it that despite making up 55.5 % of the United States population women hold only 19.6 % of
seats on the U.S Congress, 4.6% of CEO positions (S P 500 companies), and 13.2% of school

desire to reach the top. However, these individuals are misguided in their belief about the professional

As a result, women speak more tentatively, apologize more, and interrupt less than men. Ultimately,
this leaves the impression that men are more confident and capable, and therefore, better leaders
(Lakoff, 1975). This impression, coupled with the perception of aggression as a predominantly
masculine trait, can lead to unwelcoming work environments in which women may experience double
standards, bias in assessments, as well as harassment. For instance, many women experience co
workers telling inappropriate jokes and making sexually oriented remarks toward them. One woman
recounts, it happened so often that I stopped telling [my boss] about it (Angyal, 2015). In this way
gender socialization may prevent women from obtaining high level positions or cause them to miss

Women have to maneuver through many obstacles some more apparent than others in order to climb
up the corporate ladder. Every day women fall prey to vertical segregation (also known as the glass
ceiling ), which refers to a barrier that keeps women from rising to the upper rungs of the corporate
ladder. Eventually, these obstacles create a reality in which it is rare to see a woman ascend to upper
level positions. For example, women become teachers and principles, while men are superintendents.

How Does Mary Play A Role In The Life Of Jesus
Mary is very important part of the life of Jesus. She lead an eventful life that lead up to the birth of
Jesus Christ. Not only was she an example of faith for her family, but future generations as well. Mary
was born in Nazareth, Israel, to her parents Saint Anne and Joachim. Anne and Joachim were unable
to have children so Joachim went to the Temple, then to the country to pray. While he was gone, Anne,
the mother of Mary, made a promise to God that if he would give her a child, she would dedicate that
child s life to the Lord s service. The two of them received a vision from an angel, who said Anne
would conceive and give birth to a wonderful child. When Mary was three years old, Anne and
Joachim brought her to the Temple at Jerusalem, to fulfill the promise of Anne. Mary was left at the
Temple and brought up there. This event was very important to the church and without being raised in
service to God, Mary would have been a very different person and it would have affected the life of
Jesus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mary was a virgin when she conceived Jesus, and this was done by the power of God. An angel,
named Gabriel, appeared to her told her she would bear a son and his name would be Jesus. He would
be the most high, the son of God. Without the help of God, Mary could have had a severe punishment;
stoning. Mary was unwed and pregnant, and had only the story of an angel to tell Joseph and her
parents. It was within Joseph s rights, that he inform others of Mary s sin and to watch her execution.
However, with the help of an angel, and Joseph s faith and acceptance of the message from the angel,
Mary and her child s lives were

The Cost Of Space Exploration In The United States
Space exploration negatively affects human society, and space in many more ways than it does
positively. The 15 U.S naval expeditions from 1840 1860 approached one quarter of the annual federal
budget, by far exceeding even the Apollo commitment. The U.S should not fond space exploration
because of the cost, the lives risked, and dangerous organisms coming to earth. There are many
contributing factors on why Space Exploration should no longer be legal. First of all, the cost of the
whole process is excessive. Although it is used on exploration, it can also be used to reduce the
amount of poverty in underdeveloped countries. Many countries are struggling severely with poverty,
and meanwhile there are chances that the exploration will fail. ... Show more content on

Germs can be three times more dangerous in space than on ground. It is quite possible that there
maybe harmful microorganisms in space which could be lethal to mankind. (Martin) This quote is
explaining that if dangerous organisms are visible on earth, it can be very contagious, and threatening.
Also on space.com, it states that astronauts have tested how dangerous organisms can be when the
author says, NASA s STS 115 space shuttle mission, launched in September 2006, carried Nickerson
and her colleague s Salmonella typhimurium bacterial experiment into space while her group
conducted an identical experiment on Earth.. Space exploration is not worth it if there is a possible
chance that dangerous organisms can be harmful, and infectious to humans. Space exploration should
not be fond of for many reasons. Despite the fact that you can explore, or gain technology, it s more
important to stay healthy, and minimize troubles in the world. The cost of exploration not only hurts
the world financially, but also emotionally and physically. The lives risked, and dangerous organisms
equally both devastate people, and things. We have spent years on trying to find an alternative plant,
and we still don t have a clear answer. Space exploration is unnecessary, and does not need to to be

Educators Should Try to Reform the Culture Essay
I believe that educators should try to reform the culture because knowledge is never complete but an
ongoing search. If one does not seek to change then they might be stuck with an old idea that is no
longer relevant. At one point it was believed that the earth was the center of the universe or the earth
was flat. It was also once believed that women did not have the brain power to own properties or vote
but we learn differently. My teachers in primary school did not know that children have different
learning styles and not all children learn at the same pace and so their lessons were one size fits all. It
would be an injustice to learner to pass on such practice. Educators should not get complacent with
what they know but should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chosen were to educate the young with the finest of literature. Not only does he believe that
teachers were responsible for providing students with printed work but they were also to include
biblical teaching. Such technique would shape a person into one that is knowledgeable and ethical.
While my son was in Junior High School he came home one day and commented on how he could not
hold a decent conversation with his friends. He went on to say they were easily distracted and had no
opinion of their own or had any knowledge of the happenings of their own country or what goes on
overseas. My son was able to make such a profound statement because outside of school his father
took the time to hold intellectual conversations with him. My son grew in knowledge and at a young
age was able to have heated discussion with his father. This form of communication he tried to share
with his friends but became frustrated. Erasmus theory of involving our youth into intellectual
conversation can only prove to be beneficial to our youth. There are students who excel in academics
but are poor at discussing simple matters. Schools these days don t have debates teams anymore. This
was one way to appeal to or force our youth to think and communicate intellectually. Erasmus was a
believer of students bringing their own knowledge to the classroom. This he clearly express when he
stated that

Introduction I will be examining the literary novel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn composed by
Mark Twain in 1884.This Brilliantly made novel is brought to life doing a time in the world were
sociality is full of turmoil, and social injustice is accepted and an everyday thing. In the novel Huck

world talk about it. The amazing way he put the social problems that the world was facing and told
them through the eyes of a homeless, depress, and rebellious teenager, is something that make the
literary world unease, even to this day. Twain captures readers attention by entangling Huck issues in
the novel with wonderful imagery, witty satire, and anticipation of character development. Let s

embedded satire in Huck Finn until its perceive as a comedy, the beginning foot note is as follow:
Persons attempting to find a motive in this narrative will be prosecuted; persons attempting to find a

Diabetes Jensen Case Summary
Surgery always comes with a number of risks and when you compound that with any pre existing
medical conditions it often creates a host of post operative complications that the body has to now try
and compensate for. When this stress response kicks in its main goal is to preserve the body s vital
resources to ultimately keep the individual alive by regulating blood pressure, heart rate, electrolytes,
oxygen output, respiratory rate, blood volume distribution, coagulation, blood sugar and urine output.
Mr Jensen was diagnosed with Diabetes Melitus (Type II) 2 years ago and a history of Hypertension
which would create extra burden to regulate the above mentioned vital resources which could
potentially be life threatening. A major factor that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stress is displayed in many forms, so aside from the physical trauma the body has to deal with,
anxiety and emotions also add to Mr Jensens stress which typically causes a rise in heart rate and
blood pressure and a reduction of pain tolerance. Post operatively Mr. Jensen s blood pressure has
dropped which through a series of signaling pathways indirectly activates the sympathetic nervous
system to release catecholamine, glucagon and inhibition of insulin thereby resulting in retention of
sodium and water, a rise in blood pressure and blood sugar and ultimately leading to renal dysfunction
through the disruption of the renin angiotensin system. The presence of hypotension from the injury
and post surgery has led to Mr Jensens hypovolaemia. Less blood in his body means that he has less
oxygen carrying capability. Mr. Jensen s oxygen concentration is nearing critically low which may
then cause cardiovascular implications however his blood pressure post surgery was low. The decrease
in arterial blood flow or oxygen tension then decreases the chemoreceptor oxygen extraction,
decreasing venous

Once we completed the evaluation of Rube Goldberg s life, cartoons, and machines, my team worked through the challenges of trying to pull together as a team and create a successful project. Rube Goldberg was an inventor, engineer, sculptor, author, and cartoonist. Born on July fourth, 1883 in San Francisco, California, Rube grew up in an upper middle class family of Jewish heritage, and he had shown a love for the arts ever since a young age. Rube also became the co founder of the National Cartoonists Society. It was an organization that showed the importance of cartoons and cartoonists, which made Goldberg want to be apart of it. Over time, his cartoon inventions turned into real working machines, and millions of people became inspired. An excellent example of what Goldberg s designs are and how they can operate is his famous self operating napkin cartoon. The Cremator Film Analysis Contemporary efforts to represent Nazis often highlight their humanity (especially in museum settings), largely as a warning to future generations that evil can be perpetrated by even the most ordinary person. Herz s The Cremator, however, paints a very different picture of both Nazis and human nature. Herz depicts Nazis and those susceptible to Nazi ideology as pathological beings, as having tendencies and vices that create fertile ground for murderous or genocidal fantasies. Herz depicts Nazis and those susceptible to Nazi ideology, like Kopfrkingl, as having tendencies and vices that create fertile ground for murderous and genocidal fantasies. This is contrary to the typical notion regarded by his contemporaries that evil can be perpetrated by even the most ordinary person. Kopfrkingl is immediately notably strange from his introductory spiel on vices and his eccentric explanation of work at the crematorium and mannerisms allow him to be labeled as deranged. Although Kopfrkingl hesitates to succumb to Nazi idealogy, partially due to his natural demeanor and romantic beliefs, he eventually submits as he realizes the benefits and advantages of joining the party. As Nazi s encroach on Czech borders, and tensions rise, Kopfrkingl naturally adopts the ideologies of the Nazis and their urgency to establish a pure and new world order. Disturbingly, Herz brings to the surface what lies under both the personal and historical madness and pustulous corruption of human life, of which Kopfrkingl s diseased mind and Nazi Germany or Communist Russia are simply the most visible ... The United States Welfare programs and policies were put into place to help make individuals more self sufficient, but it has been taken for granted by far more people than it has been intended to help. There are seven basic steps: Introduction, referral or assignment to house or senate committees, considered in house or senate committees, placement of bill on a legislative calendar, considered on the house or senate floor, signed or vetoed by governor, and lastly the bill does or does not become a law. Introduction of a bill requires both house and senate members to file a written bill with each of their corresponding clerk members. The clerk then submits the bill to alphanumeric designation where it is available to the eyes of lawmakers and citizens so that they make track its progress. There is a specific time bills can be submitted. They can be submitted the Monday after the November general election. This step can be influenced by many figures outside of Legislative. • 10. `` The Birthmark `` By Nathanial Hawthorne Nathanial Hawthorne writes a compelling story about a recently married scientist whose wife has a blemish on her cheek. The Birthmark written in 1843 is a critique of domesticity, feminine sexuality, and perfectionism. Cindy Weinstein takes the stance that The Birthmark is a critique of feminine sexuality. Weinstein suggests, A key reason, then, that Aylmer wants to erase the birthmark is that it signifies a sexuality with which he is deeply uncomfortable (123). This argument is seen throughout Hawthorne s story, but Weinstein s argument can be taken a step further to deal with the root cause, control. Aylmer is disturbed with Georgiana s birthmark due to the fact that it signifies her sexual desires that he is unable to control. Aylmer realizes that Georgiana s birthmark is troubling soon after their marriage and intercourse together. Not a single man in Georgiana s previous relationships has had a problem with her birthmark, but now that she has had sexual intercourse, Aylmer cannot stop having thoughts about her birthmark. Hawthorne writes, After his marriage, for he thought little or nothing of the matter before, Aylmer discovered that this was the case with himself (1). After their intercourse together, Aylmer unlocks her suppressed feminine sexuality. When he begins to realize she also has the desires, he is uncomfortable because it defies the culture belief that women do not have these perverse thoughts. Evaluation Of A Classroom Management Classroom management is a set of methods and skills used by educators to assist students in being more organized, alert, thoughtful, disciplined as well as being more academically productive. Classroom management when used correctly and effectively can help teachers maintain and control behaviors that may hinder learning for the class or a particular student, while at the same time maximizing behaviors that enhance learning for the students (Classroom Management, 2014). A practice that can contribute to an effective classroom management could be an entry routine. An entry routine is a method that teachers use to establish a consistent schedule that begins when the students enter the classroom each and every day. This routine could be pre arranged seat assignments, students passing in assignments due, having books, paper and pencils ready or having a warm up activity at the beginning of class. This type of routine helps maintain order in the classroom and avoids wasting valuable learning time at the beginning of the class (Classroom Management, 2014). The middle of the eighteenth century was the height of what became known as the ?Age of Reason?, where people believed that thoughts and actions should be based on the material world. This supported John Locke?s theories that a populace could legitimately revolt against a tyrannical government. This would have greatly appealed to British people at a time where the government has become increasingly oppressive due to their fear of an uprising. The desire for stability was shown in the Church. However this gave many people more reason to feel the need for change as it said that salvation lay in duty and obedience and that children were merely blank pages to be educated and therefore gain decency and social responsibility. Dreams and imagination were distrusted and discouraged. Lyrical Ballads broke through all this, encouraging imagination and telling us to learn from the simplicity of children, therefore appealing to many people. The 1780?s saw lots of inspired political and social movements with people hoping to rid the world of slavery, promote women?s rights, protect workers, increase suffrage, promote tolerance and greater sexual freedom. Many of these issues are present in Lyrical Ballads. ?Mad Mother?, ?The Thorn?, ?The Female Vagrant? and ? They control the mass of the economy and GDP of many states, place pressure on policy makers through their decisions and influence the decisions of citizens through media. They, however, would not be able to function without the rules and economic control states have to create a market place and media channels. In other words, blacks are considered less intelligent than whites. The incarceration rates have grown tremendously since the last time someone can remember. The largest jailer in the world is the United States. Philadelphia, however, has the nation s highest incarceration rates. Because white people are the dominant group they are able to do so much more once they are out and having went to jail or committed a felon is just a mistake but for a person of a different race, it defines their whole life and stays with them forever. Although all whites benefit from racism, not all of us benefit equally (Tatum, pg.111). From this reasoning one can conclude that not all whites are racist and not all black people or people of different race are prejudice. Yes, all white people can benefit from racism in one form or another but we don t all benefit equally because white people get caught for their mistakes to and pay the price for it but in the end, even the ones who did go to jail for committing some type of crime still have it easier for most black people in the 21st century. Active and passive racism is also relevant. Tatum describes active racism as being equivalent to walking fast on a conveyor belt (Tatum, pg.110), which means the person engaged in active racism has identified with the idea of white supremacy and is moving with it, basically its means that white people are okay with it so they still continue to do it. Passive racism on the other hand is similar to standing still on the walkway. (Ancient Warfare, 2008) At the beginning of the war the Athenians had managed to keep Spartans away, but a sudden plague resulted in the death of a major number of Athenians, including Pericles himself. Soon enough his strategies were abandoned and as none of his processes had the ability to lead the army. The next day found Athens under the Spartan Sovereignty. The Peloponnesian War managed to radically change the flow of history. It was probably the most destructive and those who took part in it didn t remain unaffected. At the same it signed the end of democracy and the Golden Age. Although the Peloponnesian War was the reason for the end of the Athenian Golden Age it would be unfair to blame only the Spartans. Warfare was a usual thing in the ancient times as there was much competition between city states. If we take into account the rule of rise and fall, the end of the Golden Age would be inevitable and that was proved by the fact that when the Peloponnesian War was over the new force in the Hellenic area, the Macedonians conquered the whole Greece, establishing a new form of government, the ... In Paul s unhappy family, his parents marriage is unsatisfactory. His mother is sexually frustrated: She had bonny children, yet she felt they had been thrust upon her. Clearly, she feels not fulfilled, but violated. The story addresses a few of the topics Lawrence is most outstanding for well, some of them in any event. While it doesn t include the same unequivocal sexuality that made Lawrence infamous in his day, much like Sons and Lovers, The Rocking Horse Winner concentrates a considerable amount on the connection between a mother and her child. The Horse Dealer s Daughter, Lawrence shows the recovery of a customarily English society through a relationship between the town specialist and a young lady whom he saves from conferring suicide. In this story, Lawrence surrenders the sentimental style that such a story would commonly grasp by lighting up the profoundly clashing feelings of the two characters Lawrence s enthusiasm for mother child connections mostly comes from his association with his own mom, an informed lady who lamented her marriage to Lawrence s coal excavator father. Quite a bit of her disappointed desire was exchanged onto her kids, and Lawrence s scholarly capacities were developed under her care. He says that children and animals are not in this category because they do not have the rational thought. People would guess that choice relates to desire, but desire is in pleasure and pain where choice is not. Choice is something that is within us and does not look at the end goals. Choice is how we want to achieve something and it is not an opinion. Therefore, Aristotle says choice is definitely voluntary. He then shifts to speaking that choice could be about deliberation. He says that there are certain things we do not deliberate about, but the things we do deliberate about are the things that can affect us. This deliberation can be seen more in the arts because it is more abstract than sciences. When there is something unknown, we need to deliberate about it. Also, we look for the means to get something rather than looking at the end goals. Deliberation helps us choose so it is part of choice and desire. He then moves to talk about wishing. This is about how someone wants something. This has to do with the means rather than the ends. Aristotle says that if we are moral, we want things that are good, but if we are not moral, we would wish for something that seems to be good, but really is not.
