Amin Malouf The Child
Course readings The Child by Richard A. Schweder and In the Name of the Identity by Amin Malouf
covers multiple ideas of identity that shows the academic community how people proceeded the world
in relationship to themselves. For one, Schweder and his colleagues primarily address two ways of
how people confirm to their identity. The first idea Schweder point out was that people conform based
upon their own upbringing. The second idea stems from Erick Erosion theory which highlights how
social groups/levels influences people s identity. In Maalouf reading the writer gives various example
of identity from religious beliefs to political doctrines. From my understanding, both readings reveal
that identity doesn t have a set concept, but

The Work Of Louis Pasteur
In the midst of the Industrial Revolution, the son of leather tanners provided the clarity needed to
understand the behavior of microbes and applied this understanding to improve people s daily life.
This man, Louis Pasteur, succeeded in his medical investigations and continued to pursue his interest,
despite objections given to him by his peers. The timeless work of Louis Pasteur in the areas of
chemistry and microbiology provided the necessary foundation for the scientific study of immunology
and stressed the importance of possessing a thorough understanding of the procedures involved in
medical treatment.
Background
On December 27, 1822, Louis Pasteur was born to a family of leather tanners (Lamont, Cohn). As a
child, Pasteur showed no scientific potential whatsoever (Cohn). However, he did have a talent for art,
and it is possible that this particular interest could have influenced his appreciation for detail in his
later years (Lamont). Many of his teachers suggested that he follow in his father s footsteps. As time
progressed, Pasteur developed an interest in the field of science. Starting from this point in his life,
Pasteur demonstrated the characteristic of rising above his expectations. Even though he was the son
of a leather tanner, Pasteur did not give up and live a simple life. Through many strenuous years of
hard work supplemented with encouragement from his father, Pasteur began to study at the French
University. It is here, as Cohn notes, that Pasteur

Grouping Vs Individualism
It is easier for humans to harm others when the they or the enemy is grouped because a group can be
considered for its ideals and goals alone. Grouping removes individualism, and thus removes the
identity of those involved. Someone might hate a group, but concede that they do not particularly hate
any one person within it, even though by hating the group they are projecting that feeling toward its
members. Grouping can give someone the feeling that they are free to act as they please, simply
because the other members of their group can support them, no matter how wrong or immoral that
action may be. When a group of likeminded people surrounds someone and backs that person up no
matter what, that person can consider morals in the perspective of those around him, instead of the
way that society governs it. Grouping also intoxicates its members with the idea that they can reflect

When a person within a like minded group harms a person in an opposite or opposing group, the
offender may feel nothing at all or escape any serious repercussions. Grouping frees the aggressor
from a mindset of right and wrong , filling the space with what appears to be a solid motive: to please
the group. Cyberbullying is often found in the shelter of an online chat room (StopBullying.Gov). In
chat rooms, participants gather to discuss topics online. Oftentimes when a person is bullied in a chat
room, they are ganged up on. One harmful message follows a previous one. The group acts as the
aggressor, leaving no one person guilty or wrong. It makes sense that someone that wanted to please
the group would emulate that group s actions, regardless of what those actions were. It is a part of
human fundamental nature to want to be part of a group. In fact, negative images of another group or
party can be created just in order to identify with a prospective group

Truth Commission Reports in Argentina and Chile
In the late 20th century, the South American countries of Argentina and Chile went through two
considerably turbulent periods of violent clashes between governmental and military forces against
native citizens. These clashes not only caused severe damage within both communities but also led to
specific reconciliation recommendations by truth commission committees set out in Núnca Mas and
the Rettig Report. These specific recommendations not only aided in the reconciliation process but
also helped in the social, and political, development of both Argentinian and Chilean society. These
reports were translated into multiple languages; recorded scores of people, who were hurt both
physically and psychologically by these terrors, and mostly allowed for those with no voice to be
heard not only by the countries involved, but by the world as a whole. In the end, the Argentinian and
Chilean people effected by these atrocities not only were given the option of knowing the history of
their countries, but ultimately the ability to feel protected and valued in the places they were hurt
most. With the aide of truth commission report recommendations the societies effected were given a
new chance at healing and rehabilitating their country, which mostly was destroyed both physically
and mentally. These reports not only give a direct and unabridged version of the story of the conflict,
but also gave the victims of these countries, as well as the world, one history they can all be agreed

The Stonewall Riots And The Lgbt Rights Movement Into Motion
The history of LGBTQ+ Rights is, as any other civil rights movement, is a complex one. For decades
these marginalized people have fought for their basic human rights not only to get married, but also to
be protected in the workplace and use the restrooms in which they feel comfortable. Throughout much
of history, they have been dehumanized and referred to as sexual deviants. The Stonewall Riots put the
LGBTQ+ Rights Movement into motion. The photo being analyzed today was taken one year later on
June 28, 1970, at what is now known as the first ever Gay Pride Parade. The photo is owned by
gettyimages, though the watermark suggests that it belongs to a man named Fred W. McDarrah. The
photo depicts an unnamed lesbian holding a sign which says ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Stereotypes place people in boxes. These boxes tend to harm others, especially marginalized groups.
Those who adhere to a preconceived standard are often ridiculed, and those who do not face a certain
degree of hostility from both those within the group and those outside of it. The way this woman is
dressed is important, because her femininity defies stereotypes about gay women. In a time where
LGBTQ+ people were finally proclaiming their identities, this would have been very important.
Let us return to the photo itself for a moment. Figures stand on either side of and behind the woman.
Those behind her are interestingly blocked off by a barricade. One begins to wonder if they are
onlookers or fellow protesters. The barricade in and of itself is symbolic. Barricades hold people back.
Societal values hold people back. The woman, though, is on the opposite side of the barricade. She
holds the sign which boldly testifies to her sexuality and her beauty, no longer letting the barricade
hold her back. In a time when homosexuality was seen as a mental illness, this could have been argued
as the woman not letting the police holding her back.
It is imperative to remember how LGBTQ+ people have been seen in society, in this case.
Unfortunately, many people see it as being dirty and unnatural. By stepping over the barricade, the
photographed woman loudly proclaims that she does not care about what society believes about her
sexuality. She is a woman

Competitive Advantage Of Apple
Part A: Blog entries
Product Apple
Launching a product which meets and even exceeds customer needs is crucial to the success of a
company. An example of that type of company is Apple. The American based technological giant has
been dominating the market for years and there are several reasons for that. Firstly, Apple s products
make their users feel unique. It is the brand name and the quality, associated with it, that make people
love Apple. What is more, Apple has a lot of technological advantages and resources, for example,
they were the first company to launch a tablet the iPad. Finally, they have a lot of skills in terms of
knowledge and creativity of their employees. All of the above mentioned reasons provide Apple with a
competitive advantage.
I bought my first iPhone five years ago. At that time, I would have never thought that I would want to
use Apple products for the rest of my life. What I enjoy most about this product is its simplicity as
well as the amazing opportunities it gives to me. From guiding me through my jogging routine in the
park to finishing an assignment on my morning commute I can always count on my iPhone.

Book Review Of The Book Blink The Power Of Thinking
The name of the book I read is, Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking . This book is written
by Malcolm Gladwell and was published on April 5, 2005. Gladwell is known as out of the one
hundred most influential people to New York s, Time Magazine. Gladwell is a New York journalist
and author. Authoring four books that made an appearance on New York Times bestsellers list, these
books were, The Tipping Point: How Little Things Make a Big Difference (2000), Blink: The Power
of Thinking Without Thinking (2005), Outliers: The Story of Success (2008), and What the Dog Saw:
And Other Adventures (2009). All of the works he has created touch a great deal on subjects such as
psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, sociology, and relationships between
people. I obtained this book from an app called, Audible, where I listened to Gladwell narrates the
book himself.
My book, Blink, is a book that s about snap judgments and it s about taking snap judgments seriously.
And it s not a book that says they re great and it s not a book that says they re terrible. It s a book that
says they are both. It can be really good and it can be really bad. And we need to understand them on a
very much more sophisticated level if we were to construct a better world for ourselves. (Malcolm
Gladwell, On Books Podcast) This was a quick explanation of what the book is about from his
professional point of view. In my explanation of the book, Blink is a book about snap

The Tactics Of Combat Civil Wars And Instill Peace
The three main tactics used to combat civil wars and instill peace in an area are peacekeeping, peace
enforcement, and counterinsurgency. The first tactic I will address is peacekeeping. Once the two
parties of a conflict have agreed to a truce, peacekeepers will come in to guarantee the implementation
of the truce and try to maintain peace. The duty of peacekeepers is not only [to] monitoring troops, but
also with human rights monitoring, protecting and delivering humanitarian aid, demobilizing and
retraining troops, reforming police forces, protecting civilians, reforming legal systems, assisting in
economic reconstruction, and sometimes administering the entire state until a new government can
take over. In other words, after civil wars, peacekeepers are often charged not only with military
monitoring duties, but with reforming the essential institutions of the state (Peacekeeping, Peace
Enforcement, and UN Reform Lise Morjé Howard, P 1 2). There are three ways that peacekeepers are
able to use their power in order to succeed. These three ways include coercion, inducement, and
persuasion. Coercion involves a display of power, like swagger, to wield off attacks. Troops use
swagger in several scenarios. One of the most common times the use of swagger will occur is during
policing, where troops will patrol the area. Since one of the main doctrines of peacekeeping involves
not using force, this type of coercion has been deemed useful. Even though the majority of the time

A Review On Thing Net Works
In numerous genuine applications, other than the input and thing content data, there may exist
relations (or systems) among the things which can likewise be useful for proposal. For instance, in the
event that we need to prescribe papers (references) to clients in Cite ULike, the reference relations
between papers are useful for suggesting papers with comparable subjects. Different case of thing net
works can be found in hyperlinks among site pages, motion pictures coordinated by the same
executives, et cetera. In this paper, we build up a novel progressive Bayesian model, called Relational
Collaborative Topic Regression (RCTR), to join thing relations for suggestion. The principle
commitments of RCTR are laid out.
II. Foundation: In this area, we give a brief presentation about the back ground of RCTR, including
CF based suggestion, network factorization (MF) (likewise called inactive component model) based
CF strategies and CTR. A.CF Based Recommendation Collaborative theme relapse is proposed to
prescribe records (papers) to clients via flawlessly incorporating both input framework and thing
(archive) content data into the same model, which can address the issues confronted by MF based CF.
By joining MF and inactive Dirichlet distribution (LDA), CTR accomplishes preferable expectation
execution over MF based CF with better interpretable results. In addition, with the thing content data,
CTR can anticipate input for out of grid things. The graphical model of CTR is

Effects on Watching Anime on Individual Habits and Attitudes
Effects of Watching Anime
Introduction
I. Background of the Study
Anime is a type of cartoon but rather, it is complex, mature, broader, and even the animation drawing
is on a higher level than that of a mere cartoon. Anime, which originated in Japan, is drawn by a
Mangaka (artist) into manga (comic) drafts. These drafts are then rearranged, colored and
synchronized by a hundred of staff. After the sequencing, a Seiyuu (Voice Actor) will give life to the
character. One second of movement needs twenty five to thirty five drafts of drawing. Since it
originated in Japan, most of the Animes shows the culture and hidden beauty of Japan, its
technological advancement, friendship, love and student s life, the Japanese way.

Here in the Philippines, Japanese Animation or anime is considered as one of the most recognized and
highly anticipated entertainment source for all ages.
From past generations until this present time there were many featured anime here in the Philippines.
There are anime that are shown on televisions, some on DVD s and some are brought to life by the so
called cosplayers . We can visualize the evolution of Japanese animation from time to time just by
noticing the effects, the drawing styles, and mostly the stories.
II. Objective of the Study
The objectives of this study are the following: 1. To determine the positive effects of watching anime.
2. To determine the negative effects of watching anime.
III. Significance of the Study
This study will help determine or decide whether watching anime has neither more positive effects nor
negative effects especially to children and students. This study will also give a bird s eye view of how
will anime affect person habits or attitude.
Review of Related Literature
The review of the literature for this study focuses on the effects of watching anime among children
and students.
With the Japanese animation anime industry spreading across the globe, many American students have
become enthralled with this form of Japanese pop culture. The Associated Press even covered the
topic in 2006, discussing anime s appeal among American teenagers and pointing out that as many

History Of Immigration Reform
To prove my hypothesis, I find essential to analyze congressional behavior regarding specific local
and executive efforts to regulate immigration. This study will certainly find that as long as the
legislation proposals on immigration do not originate from the Congress, the lawmakers will always
manifest strong opposition. Despite a broad constitutional stipulation, the U.S. Supreme Court has
long granted Congress exclusive control over immigration (Tichenor, 2013). How Congress conducts
immigration politics and legislation reflects many of the old and new immigration patterns. However
the legislative action on immigration reform relies on the formation of unstable coalitions that require
grand bargains (Tichenor, 2013, p. 24). As the issues ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The purpose of the bill was to offer citizenship for undocumented immigrants, who immigrated to
U.S. as minors and now wanted to enroll in military or college. The DREAM Act was not considered
so polarizing because it involved minors and pursued valuable goals for American society.
Nevertheless, the bill barely passed in the House and did not achieve the necessary votes in the Senate.
Once again, this shows how regardless of early bipartisan cooperation, new immigration bills have a

Division Of Labor By Adam Smith
Intro In this chapter, Adam Smith argued about the concept of division of labor because you have to
use resource in the right way that you can get the highest productivity. Division of labor in
manufacture is the way that the firm subdivided labor into the steps, different labor divide in different
step like the example about pin factory in the book.
In this chapter, Adam Smith introduces the idea of improving production to increasing the quantity of
work by subdivided process of operation. The division of labour is Smith s idea that can help society
to have better performance of working through individual and to gain more productivity. This brings
about how the division of labour work well in society and make everyone enjoy it along with ... Show

In some particular works, however, this idea might not helpful to some businesses. The example that
Smith gives in this situation is agricultural operation because the process of preparing the field,
plowing and harvesting most likely use same person and hard to be divided since they are seasonal.
Furthermore, Smith also said that the agriculture cannot be improves by the use of the division of
labour. Like the corn, the price in developed countries is almost the same as undeveloped countries,
while the developed countries have cheaper manufactured goods.
How the division of labour makes improvement
Smith makes a note that while workers improve dexterity, they become expertise in their individual
skills. They have more ability to better work. Increasing quantity of the production, the division of
labour makes the opulence in society among all. For a given example, Smith telling that the
complication of making a simple dress is as hard as a prince s coat. He finally concludes this idea that
there are not only goods that interconnected in a complexity of particular specialized workers, but also

Percussion Instruments Comparison Essay
The difference between a drum and a percussion instrument creates confusion among those that don t
know the intricacies of both instrument categories. While both instruments share similar
characteristics, a drum consists of a very specific type of percussion instrument. Percussionists and
drummers learn very early on to distinguish the difference by identifying the specific characteristics of
each instrument.
Main Differences
Drums fall under the category of percussion instruments. However, not all percussion instruments can
be considered drums. A drum specifically requires the instrument to produce an indefinite pitch and
applies to instruments that are struck with drumsticks, mallets, beaters or the hands. Percussion
instruments include any instrument that can be struck or hit with a mallet or that produces an extra
musical effect.

Each of these instruments historically used an animal skin that was stretched over a membrane. The
skin, or drum head, can then be struck to produce rapidly developing rhythms, booming bass and help
to drive the pulse of the piece forward. Drums must have a skin stretched over the top membrane of
the instrument. For this reason, drums are often referred to as membranophones.
Pitched Percussion
Pitched percussion instruments are also commonly referred to as barred instruments. These
instruments include any percussive instrument that must be struck to create sound, but produce a
definite sound. Some examples of pitched percussion instruments are the xylophone, marimba,
glockenspiel, tubular bells and the celesta. Each of these instruments are commonly available in
symphony orchestras. They serve to provide accents to the main beats of a musical work and color
melodies that double in the woodwind or brass section of the orchestra.

Klein is very confident and fearless even when the work its not complex and leans toward minimalist.
After several months of exhibitions he makes a shift in his style of art that has become known as his

The Pros And Cons Of International Commercial Arbitration
Conclusion
The driving force of trade is one of the most powerful influences on human activity. Therefore since
the medieval time till this day; Commercial law has been constantly developing by adapting new
principles due the continuous growth in the commercial transactions; in order a to fit and match the

1535 AN EMPIRICAL EXAMINATION OF THE EXPORT LED GROWTH HYPOTHESIS IN

postulates a causal connection between export and growth. This study investigates ELG hypothesis
using quarterly time series data for the period 1980:1 2007:2 in Turkey. The hypothesis is tested by
applying the cointegration and error correction procedures. We find an evidence to support the
hypothesis that there is a long run and short run bidirectional causality relationship between export

2. EXPORT LED GROWTH [ELG] HYPOTHESIS Ricardo s theory of comparative advantage
explains that countries should specialize in the production of commodities that they are most efficient
at producing in relation to other countries, and trade those commodities with the rest of the world. It is
possible to say that a country can export its commodities and consequently raise foreign currency,
with which it can import the other commodities in need. The better a country is at producing its
specialized commodities, the more revenue it will raise from its exports and the more it will be able to
procure imports. This trade theory has given birth to a new direction for economic policy, namely the
export led growth [ELG] hypothesis (Zuniga, 2000). The ELG hypothesis postulates that export
expansion is a key

In conclusion, because everyone is narcotized, they are not aware of the many, many wrong things
occurring in The World State. This of course expedites to the introduction of the protagonist, Bernard
Marx. Once Marx is fully cognitive about his situation, he immediately tries alarming others. No, the
real problem is: How is it that I can t or rather because, after all, I know quite well why I can t what it
would be like if I could, if I were free not enslaved by my conditioning, (Huxley 91). In addition to the
always evident tripping on soma, all citizens of The World State are created in test tubes and
conditioned as fetuses to become their pre destined social rank. Speculations have also been spread
that Bernard s conditioning had altered him to be slightly mentally different from the rest, providing it
even more difficult to make an effort to convince the rest of his society that they are being enslaved.
While away on a trip to a Savage Reservation in New Mexico, Bernard tries to persuade Leina, a
woman friend of Bernard s, to become conscious of her situation. Despite his clear efforts and
intentions, Leina s conditioning was so strong that all she can do is repeat the words she was
hypnopӕdically taught and ignore his words. To counter act Bernard s words, she offers him a
condolence that Everyone is happy nowadays (Huxley 91). This angers Marx further and the argument

Microsoft Antitrust Case
The Sherman Antitrust act of 1890, along with other laws passed by congress, was put in place to

Portrayal Of A Soldier In Movies Essay
The Portrayal of a soldier
When a movie portraying soldiers is being directed the director has to be very accurate about how the
soldiers in his/her movie are being displayed. Most of people s ideas and theories about soldiers are
from movies, this is why directors need to be as accurate as possible when displaying soldiers to their
audience. After studying and reviewing several other war and soldier related texts I have realised that
the common person s idea and opinion of a soldier is formed by the many films and texts they have
read about soldiers. The films and texts I have studied are: A Giant Has Been Awakened by Joe
Pielmeier, Hero Of War by Rise Against, Saving Private Ryan by Steven Spielberg and Terminator 2
by James ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The soldiers in Saving Private Ryan by Steven Spielberg are portrayed as unsure, nervous and scared
but brave and obeying to their leaders, even when told to do something that could be missed out and
would not directly affect their mission. This is shown when the squad of D Day survivors are walking
in a field, and stumble upon a radio tower guarded by two Maschinengewehr 42 machine guns. They
strip off their armor vests to increase their mobility to rush the Germans. One innocent soldier is killed
in their raid (T 4 Medic Wade). This was a consequence of removing their vests, as he was shot in the
stomach. The squad proceed to beat and abuse the only living German soldier left out of anger of their
friends death. This shows how they had lost their sanity as the German was unarmed. This film
displays the soldier that is obeying, brave, but also affected by war mentally, I believe this is the most
realistic portrayal of a soldier, as soldiers in other texts eg; Terminator Two, seem to come out as
heroes with no scars of war because of the film being too

Biblical Allegory In The Edenian
In a world where popular culture is ever changing, the Bible continues to provide inspiration for many
cultural texts. The practice of religion has always been tied to popular music in a symbiotic way
(Rauhut, 2017), and representations of the Bible remain prolific in popular music today. Sara Bareilles
is an American pop rock and soul artist, who achieved mainstream success with her 2007 song (I m
not gonna write you a) love song. Her third album The Blessed Unrest was released in 2013, and
features the song Eden (Bareilles, Sara Hales, Matt. 2013), a song that contains heavy biblical
connotations. The lyrics of Eden are symbolic of the traditional story of Adam and Eve in Genesis 2
and 3 from the Christian Old Testament, and demonstrate how music continues to be influenced by the
Bible in the 21st Century. The song Eden offers an excellent example of the way biblical allegory can
be used to retell stories from the Bible through music, however it also shows how popular culture
provides alternative interpretations of biblical texts as well. In this essay, I will first explore the world
in the text through an in depth analysis of the biblical allegory within the lyrics of Eden, to show how
it conveys the traditional story from Genesis 2 and 3. I will then go on to consider the world behind
the text; discussing how Eden is inspired by Bareilles own life, and the way artistic decisions made
within the song differ from the interpretation of the traditional biblical text.

In North By Alfred Hitchcock Essay
Intro:
Bordwell and Thompson judge narrative to be a chain of events linked by cause and effect in time and
space as a filmmaker, Hitchcock s biggest ally in creating suspense and mystery is his ability to
manipulate point of view within a cause and effect narrative. The Master of Suspense manipulates his
audience s perspective while simultaneously employing narrative techniques to build tension and
expand the potential of his narrative. While both North by Northwest and Rope are fairly
straightforward they are both riddled with plot twists and suspense. Hitchcock s various narrative
strategies include: plotting, release of story information, character development and spectator

In both North by Northwest and Rope Alfred Hitchcock employs clear diegesis in order establish a
story. Despite both films having clear narrative lines, Hitchcock purposefully utilizes point of view
editing to enhance the suspense and intrigue of the plot. Janet Bergstrom states in North by Northwest
Hitchcock constructs a visual structure with classical narrative economy In North by Northwest Roger
Thornhill is the main agent of cause and effect; we are introduced to Roger s clear character traits as
we see events take place through his eyes. However it s the tonal and point of view shift that takes
place roughly one third through the film that stimulates our interest. During the train dinner scene
between Eve and Roger Hitchcock employs reversals a technique described by Linda J. Cowgill as
when something happens and the film suddenly veers off in the opposite direction Hitchcock is able to
use this technique so successfully by allowing the emotion of the scene to connect with the suspense
and consequences of the action. Halfway through the film, the crop duster scene takes place. It is here
we can see how through point of view and juxtaposition of opposites Hitchcock has constructed an
incredibly emotional and suspenseful narrative. Within this scene Hitchcock exclusively pans the
camera horizontally in order to keep the audience with the character s actions. ***** NEEED TO

Ethnic Cleansing And Genocide
Despite the 21st century advancements, the world is still plagued with major problems today. Each
country, region and continent is facing its own set of struggles and battles. Whether it is an economic,
political or social issue, there is always an obstruction that a country is striving to overcome. One of
the worldwide issues is ethnic cleansing and genocide. In particular, the South Sudanese civil war is
caused by differing opinions of ethnic groups and is leading to the attempt of genocide. Despite the
several laws under crimes against humanity opposing this practice, it still does not stop groups from
continuing this vile activity. South Sudan is in turmoil due to fighting between those with ethnic
differences, specifically the Dinka and the Nuer. These heinous crimes must be stopped before the
newly developed country, South Sudan, does not have an opportunity to flourish. This issue has been
common throughout history, varying in severity and affected ethnic groups. For instance, the countries
of Central Africa, Germany, Poland, Hungary and Myanmar have all been affected by this atrocity (

Argumentative Essay About A Soccer Game
I happened to be on outdoor sandy field experiencing different mixed emotions as I saw people with
several face expression at the end of the big soccer game. It was exhausting and unforgiving game that
got some players injured, and caused the bad sportsmanship to take place between the coaches,
players, and fans. Our fans and our rival s fans fought each other, and they threw stuff across the
stadium as if they were dealing with a gigantic wild animal. Some of the players couldn t fully focus
on their soccer match due to their divided attention, and some of them were terrified by the fan s
unnecessary acts. Whenever I think about this moment, I cry and smile at same time because we
finally understood the meaning of fair play of soccer, and happy ending of our game occurred as a
result of that. I knew before the game that the unsportsmanlike conduct would happen, it really did as
I thought, but besides our soccer game s dirty side, it appeared to be more captivating by the way it
was played than any other game. I believe that there were three causes for the ungentlemanly behavior
that we faced during the tournament. Both my team and the rival team fought to death in order to win
the important soccer league because neither of the teams made it to the final game before. They
always face each other during the knockout games which made them rivals. Finally, the beauty of the
game also had an effect for why the match took place to be played dirty.

The Minimum Drinking Age Act
Some people find it hard to understand that at the age of eighteen you can fight and die for your
country, but you cannot legally drink or purchase alcoholic beverages. Others find it hard to believe
that there are people who want people under the age of twenty one drinking. The important question
is: should the drinking age be lowered to eighteen instead of remaining at twenty one? The legal
drinking age is the age at which a person can consume or purchase alcohol. These laws cover a wide
range of issues and behaviors, addressing when and where alcohol can be consumed. The National
Minimum Drinking Age Act was passed by Congress 30 years ago. This law told states that they had
to enforce the drinking age of 21 or lose up to ten percent of their federal highway funding. The idea
that a person was fully an adult at age 21 relates to an English common law. 21 was the age where a
person could vote and become a knight. If a person was 21, they could drink then, too. Franklin
Roosevelt approved lowering the minimum age for the military draft from 21 to 18 during World War
II. Organizations like Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) began pushing for the national
drinking age to be set at 21. They thought it would keep alcohol out of the hands of 18 year olds who
they felt were less mature. As a result, President Reagan signed the National Minimum Drinking Age
Act of 1984 to set the age at 21. Legislation concerning the legal minimum drinking age in the United
States can be

An intellectual vision causes the person to become aware of an abstract concept such as the grace of
God a numinous experience. These are often followed by a sense of inner peace or a call toward
religious life.
A conversion experience is one in which the goal is to change one set of beliefs. This process is called
a double action; this is because one must turn away from a previous lifestyle and turn to a new state of
being. The development of conversion can be a sudden experience or a gradual one and the end result
is usually a greater understanding of faith. People may convert for several reasons; It may be about
years of searching for a spiritual home, or about a moment of inspiration that has caught them by
surprise; sometimes it involves the pain of breaking away from a previous path, a sense of loneliness
and wrestling with doubt. Some may say that a conversion takes place when one s identity is
perceived to be inadequate and so they move to being in a state when adequacy is met, and the knew
life they start is a holy one. There are four main stages identified which can lead to a conversion
experience; a prior interest in religious questions and other related issues, the influence of other cases
of conversion, a situation which may involve physical and emotional upset, and the moment of
conversion which brings about a radical change in feeling and outlook of the persons life. There

Marsalis Phenomenon Analysis
Despite this turn over, the pattern of moving from one style to the next benefited postmodern jazz
musicians as they were able to capitalize upon the apparent open mindedness from the public to the
varied methods of musical expression (358). Through the help of the Association for the Advancement
of Creative Musicians (AACM), musicians were able to find performing opportunities, rehearsal
space, and other career support (358). The first president of the organization, pianist Richard Abrams,
gathered musicians such as Anthony Braxton, and Lester Bowie to produce work that focused on the
qualities of sound as opposed to conventional delineations of harmony, melody, and rhythm (358).
Many artists from the organization came to make their mark on postmodernism as their work reflected
a breakdown of styles into their constituent elements, sometimes focusing on one isolated aspect while
at other times combining the pieces into surprising new wholes (359). Artists such as Wynton Marsalis

whether this heterogeneity has produced an un Islamic system remains one enterprise of this writing.

The Destruction Of American Society In The 19th Century
Society is a structure that besieges every individual. Its daunting presence is inescapable. Throughout
the 19th century, the American people were trapped in a rapidly industrializing nation flooded with
corruption and greed. A few crucial advancements did result from this tumult, such as the invention of
the lightbulb and the integration of women into the working class. However, these advancements,
while substantial, did little to make up for the distressing state American society was in. Pollution
prowled the streets, and crime levels were colossal. Big businesses would stop at nothing to gain
power and profits. Shortly following the close of the 19th century was the Great Depression; a time of
immeasurable poverty and suffering. In Eric ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many immigrants and rural inhabitants fled to urban areas in search of any job that would provide
them with a salary. Finding a job was onerous, as there were too few jobs available to fulfil the
demands of the growing population. Cities became flooded with the unemployed. Likewise, as more
and more companies failed, thousands of families lost their only source of income. Due to economic
constraints, layoffs and wage cuts became routine. It seemed as if employment was always temporary;
it provided a brief glimpse of relief before it was snatched away by the claws of society. Eventually,
even Burnham, a man with a reputation for being an honorable employer, had to join the trend and let
many of his employees go. When the Chicago World s Fair officially closed, over ten thousand jobs
disappeared. Burnham knew that, The dismissed men... faced homelessness and poverty; their families
confronted the real prospect of starvation (Larson 155). Within the last several centuries, American
society had evolved in such a way that a job was necessary for survival. Money provided all the basic
needs. Because farming was difficult in crowded and polluted cities, nearly all people relied on their
wages to provide food for their families. In addition to food, money provided housing, clothing, and
education. Without salary, families were faced with a survival burden. They struggled to pay the bills
they owed, and place food upon the table. The prospect of starvation was extremely present, yet there
was little meaningful effort to improve these conditions. Workers continued to be paid minimal wages,
and get laid off. The employers knew what lay ahead for their newly unemployed workers, but they
made little effort to change their fates. The government did not provide much support to its poverty
struck citizens. Consequently, all of society suffered. In the midst of

Immanuel Kant On Good Will Analysis
Immanuel Kant writes about good will and according to him, good will is very objective. He states
that the only thing that is undoubtedly good in the world is the good will itself. Other qualities like
wealth, intelligence and bravery, for example, are characteristics in a person that can be used for good
or evil. Good will, on the other hand, is unquestionably good because even though it might not bring
positive results at all times, the good will in itself was always there and that person was driven by
good and pure motivations all along regardless if the end result was good or not. In addition, monetary
compensation for a good action would not make a good action pure because that person was motivated
by external elements instead of his or her own good will. Furthermore, as human beings we possess
obligations of good will and these obligations are called duties . For example, all people should help

Regardless of what the final result might be, good will should always have the intention to do good
without any external factors influencing the person to do a good deed. To a certain extent, this ties into
the utilitarian philosophy because if good deeds cause pleasure, and pleasure leads to happiness, then
that means that the society as a whole is happier and therefore they are more utile and more
prosperous. When it comes to defining good will , Kant seems to be taking an approach very similar to
the one found in the Bible, so in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this
sums up the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew, 7:12) At the end of the day, the intended purpose of
these teachings, is to help us live a better and more fulfilling lifestyle by helping those in need and
understand why we do these actions. What motivates us to do these actions? Why do we do them?
These are all questions that not only Immanuel Kant intend to answer but the Bible as

Introduction And Design Of The Study
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION AND DESIGN OF THE STUDY
1.1 Introduction
Over the last few decades information technology has played an important role in Indian economy. It
has affected all the industries especially the banking industry and has provided a way for the banks to
differentiate their products and services. The traditional way of financial services delivered to
customers called the branch based operations which had been used by the banks for more than 200
years, has been replaced by the advent of multiple technologies and application. For instance,
Automated Teller Machine (ATM) displaced cashier tellers, telephone represented by call centers
replaced the bank branch, the internet replaced mail, credit cards and electronic cash replaced bank
transactions. The reason was the numerous key advantages that banks could gain by providing
electronic banking services. In this way they had lower transactions cost, 24 hour trading, more
extended business territory and also increased efficiency in daily banking process. The Banking Sector
is also facing very stiff competition. In order to succeed such competition, they must offer a wide
array of products with the latest technology. At present many banks and financial institutions are
actively developing new electronic banking products for their customers throughout the world
(Alagheband 2006) . The key players of banking industry are its customers and all the efforts made by
the banks are to satisfy the desirable needs of

The United States Uses Fossil Fuels For 81 Percent Of Its
The United States uses fossil fuels for 81 percent of its the total energy. It is estimated that the world
will use all of the fossil fuels sometime in the next 50 100 years. Either we need to find a way of
slowing down the use of fossil fuels or we need to convert to a new source of energy. Renewable
energy is the most viable option because we cannot run out of renewable energy. The convergence of
Las Vegas and Google are examples of why, as a country, we need to use more renewable energy. The
United States is the second biggest consumer of fossil fuels and the biggest consumer of renewable
energy. However, our renewable energy usage is only 19 percent of our total energy usage. We may be
number one, but only have that number at 19 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Until we have someone step on and make this decision, we are going to keep burning through our
fossil fuels Las Vegas, Nevada, is the largest city in the United States to run only on renewable
resources. In 2008 the city took a vote to become a cleaner city. As of December 20th, 2015 Las Vegas
Mayor Carolyn Goodman state the city achieved their goal. Since the start of the project, Las Vegas
has reportedly saved $5 million a year. They achieved this by using solar energy. The city putting solar
panels on top of company buildings, using geothermal plants, and creating Boulder Solar 1. Boulder
Solar 1 is a solar energy company located just outside the city. Goodman did what more cities need to
do. Goodman spent money to get the project started. She knew the project was going to be negative to
start, but once it got going to was going to be worth the investment. In many people s eyes, it was
worth it. Homeowners took a toll for a bit. Taxes went up for a couple of years. Now that the project is
complete, taxes are coming back down. Home values went up on an average of $3,000 to $5,000.
Homeowners are now saving $4,000 an average each year. These small amounts add up. Over a 25
year period, a homeowner will save $100,000. With homeowners having more money to spend, the
economy of the city will grow. Another benefit to this project is it created more sustainable jobs in the
city. Goodman s

Volunteering In High Schools
J.J. Watt, an American football defensive end for the Houston Texans, once said, My mom taught me
from a young age to give back and volunteer any chance you get. (Brainyquote). Despite gaining all
the fame and money from the NFL (National Football League), the defensive end believes in the
power and the potential of volunteering by altruistically helping out Hurricane Harvey victims with
necessary supplies such as water, food, and other basic needs (USA Today). There certainly has to be a
sort of flare that ignites the heart of a volunteer in order to selflessly aid others, as exemplified by
Watt. Yet, that aspect of community service is presently vague among many high schools. Currently,
many high schools require students to volunteer for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately one major question arises from this obligation. Does mandatory volunteering truly
invoke the spirit of volunteering? Selective colleges, in general, are more stringent than they were in
the past by the recruiting process. In fact, the admission committees of these respective colleges
accurately discern inadequate applications from powerful ones, especially in relationship to the
commitment level of community service. Passion for community service is a vital indicator for
recruiting. They desire students who strongly dedicate themselves to volunteer with something that
coincides with their interests or major. However, mandatory volunteering generates a belief that
community service is a hindrance and a deliberate waste of time towards obtaining a diploma. The
embodiment of community service diminishes as these educational institutions continue to exercise
their power to regulate civic engagement. Thus, selective colleges are likely to identify and reject
those who only fulfill the negative aspects of mandatory

Genetically Modified Foods Video Analysis
In recent years, scientists are playing a larger role in the food industry by creating genetically
modified organisms (GMOs). Much is still unknown about the effects of such changes and these
questions cause many debates about what is true. The benefits of modifying our food consists of more
resilient crops, better looking products, and larger crop yields. The video attempts to influence a
younger audience by depicting a cartoon and advertising a mobile video game at the end. The author
claims that their company represents the scarecrow who uses unmodified foods rather than the
competitor s GMOs. Chipotle, the creator of the video, successfully uses, symbolism, personification,
and tone to take a stance on modified food. The creator uses symbolism throughout the video to show
how misleading Crow Foods Incorporated is to their customers. The crow is depicted as the face of the
food company. These birds are known to be dirty and sneaky. In this instance the company hides the
truth about what they actually sell. The scarecrow represents the average working class person. The
viewer can infer this because he owns a small house, takes a train to and from work, and works for a
factory. This symbolization appeals to pathos, or the viewer s emotions towards the working class.

Recent arguments have described the use of genetically modified feed for the animals they buy and

Schweder and In the Name of the Identity by Amin Malouf covers multiple ideas of identity that shows the academic community how people proceeded the world in relationship to themselves. For one, Schweder and his colleagues primarily address two ways of how people confirm to their identity. The first idea Schweder point out was that people conform based upon their own upbringing. The second idea stems from Erick Erosion theory which highlights how social groups/levels influences people s identity. In Maalouf reading the writer gives various example of identity from religious beliefs to political doctrines. • 4. The Work Of Louis Pasteur In the midst of the Industrial Revolution, the son of leather tanners provided the clarity needed to understand the behavior of microbes and applied this understanding to improve people s daily life. This man, Louis Pasteur, succeeded in his medical investigations and continued to pursue his interest, despite objections given to him by his peers. The timeless work of Louis Pasteur in the areas of chemistry and microbiology provided the necessary foundation for the scientific study of immunology and stressed the importance of possessing a thorough understanding of the procedures involved in medical treatment. Background On December 27, 1822, Louis Pasteur was born to a family of leather tanners (Lamont, Cohn). As a child, Pasteur showed no scientific potential whatsoever (Cohn). However, he did have a talent for art, and it is possible that this particular interest could have influenced his appreciation for detail in his later years (Lamont). Many of his teachers suggested that he follow in his father s footsteps. As time progressed, Pasteur developed an interest in the field of science. Starting from this point in his life, Pasteur demonstrated the characteristic of rising above his expectations. Even though he was the son of a leather tanner, Pasteur did not give up and live a simple life. Through many strenuous years of hard work supplemented with encouragement from his father, Pasteur began to study at the French University. It is here, as Cohn notes, that Pasteur ... • 5. Grouping Vs Individualism It is easier for humans to harm others when the they or the enemy is grouped because a group can be considered for its ideals and goals alone. Grouping removes individualism, and thus removes the identity of those involved. Someone might hate a group, but concede that they do not particularly hate any one person within it, even though by hating the group they are projecting that feeling toward its members. Grouping can give someone the feeling that they are free to act as they please, simply because the other members of their group can support them, no matter how wrong or immoral that action may be. When a group of likeminded people surrounds someone and backs that person up no matter what, that person can consider morals in the perspective of those around him, instead of the way that society governs it. Grouping also intoxicates its members with the idea that they can reflect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When a person within a like minded group harms a person in an opposite or opposing group, the offender may feel nothing at all or escape any serious repercussions. Grouping frees the aggressor from a mindset of right and wrong , filling the space with what appears to be a solid motive: to please the group. Cyberbullying is often found in the shelter of an online chat room (StopBullying.Gov). In chat rooms, participants gather to discuss topics online. Oftentimes when a person is bullied in a chat room, they are ganged up on. One harmful message follows a previous one. The group acts as the aggressor, leaving no one person guilty or wrong. It makes sense that someone that wanted to please the group would emulate that group s actions, regardless of what those actions were. It is a part of human fundamental nature to want to be part of a group. In fact, negative images of another group or party can be created just in order to identify with a prospective group ... • 6. Truth Commission Reports in Argentina and Chile In the late 20th century, the South American countries of Argentina and Chile went through two considerably turbulent periods of violent clashes between governmental and military forces against native citizens. These clashes not only caused severe damage within both communities but also led to specific reconciliation recommendations by truth commission committees set out in Núnca Mas and the Rettig Report. These specific recommendations not only aided in the reconciliation process but also helped in the social, and political, development of both Argentinian and Chilean society. These reports were translated into multiple languages; recorded scores of people, who were hurt both physically and psychologically by these terrors, and mostly allowed for those with no voice to be heard not only by the countries involved, but by the world as a whole. In the end, the Argentinian and Chilean people effected by these atrocities not only were given the option of knowing the history of their countries, but ultimately the ability to feel protected and valued in the places they were hurt most. With the aide of truth commission report recommendations the societies effected were given a new chance at healing and rehabilitating their country, which mostly was destroyed both physically and mentally. These reports not only give a direct and unabridged version of the story of the conflict, but also gave the victims of these countries, as well as the world, one history they can all be agreed ... • 7. The Stonewall Riots And The Lgbt Rights Movement Into Motion The history of LGBTQ+ Rights is, as any other civil rights movement, is a complex one. For decades these marginalized people have fought for their basic human rights not only to get married, but also to be protected in the workplace and use the restrooms in which they feel comfortable. Throughout much of history, they have been dehumanized and referred to as sexual deviants. The Stonewall Riots put the LGBTQ+ Rights Movement into motion. The photo being analyzed today was taken one year later on June 28, 1970, at what is now known as the first ever Gay Pride Parade. Those who adhere to a preconceived standard are often ridiculed, and those who do not face a certain degree of hostility from both those within the group and those outside of it. The way this woman is dressed is important, because her femininity defies stereotypes about gay women. In a time where LGBTQ+ people were finally proclaiming their identities, this would have been very important. Let us return to the photo itself for a moment. Figures stand on either side of and behind the woman. Those behind her are interestingly blocked off by a barricade. One begins to wonder if they are onlookers or fellow protesters. The barricade in and of itself is symbolic. Barricades hold people back. Societal values hold people back. The woman, though, is on the opposite side of the barricade. She holds the sign which boldly testifies to her sexuality and her beauty, no longer letting the barricade hold her back. In a time when homosexuality was seen as a mental illness, this could have been argued as the woman not letting the police holding her back. It is imperative to remember how LGBTQ+ people have been seen in society, in this case. Unfortunately, many people see it as being dirty and unnatural. By stepping over the barricade, the photographed woman loudly proclaims that she does not care about what society believes about her sexuality. She is a woman ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An example of that type of company is Apple. The American based technological giant has been dominating the market for years and there are several reasons for that. Firstly, Apple s products make their users feel unique. It is the brand name and the quality, associated with it, that make people love Apple. What is more, Apple has a lot of technological advantages and resources, for example, they were the first company to launch a tablet the iPad. Finally, they have a lot of skills in terms of knowledge and creativity of their employees. All of the above mentioned reasons provide Apple with a competitive advantage. I bought my first iPhone five years ago. At that time, I would have never thought that I would want to use Apple products for the rest of my life. What I enjoy most about this product is its simplicity as well as the amazing opportunities it gives to me. From guiding me through my jogging routine in the park to finishing an assignment on my morning commute I can always count on my iPhone. This book is written by Malcolm Gladwell and was published on April 5, 2005. Gladwell is known as out of the one hundred most influential people to New York s, Time Magazine. Gladwell is a New York journalist and author. Authoring four books that made an appearance on New York Times bestsellers list, these books were, The Tipping Point: How Little Things Make a Big Difference (2000), Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking (2005), Outliers: The Story of Success (2008), and What the Dog Saw: And Other Adventures (2009). All of the works he has created touch a great deal on subjects such as psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, sociology, and relationships between people. I obtained this book from an app called, Audible, where I listened to Gladwell narrates the book himself. My book, Blink, is a book that s about snap judgments and it s about taking snap judgments seriously. And it s not a book that says they re great and it s not a book that says they re terrible. It s a book that says they are both. It can be really good and it can be really bad. And we need to understand them on a very much more sophisticated level if we were to construct a better world for ourselves. • 10. The Tactics Of Combat Civil Wars And Instill Peace The three main tactics used to combat civil wars and instill peace in an area are peacekeeping, peace enforcement, and counterinsurgency. The first tactic I will address is peacekeeping. Once the two parties of a conflict have agreed to a truce, peacekeepers will come in to guarantee the implementation of the truce and try to maintain peace. The duty of peacekeepers is not only [to] monitoring troops, but also with human rights monitoring, protecting and delivering humanitarian aid, demobilizing and retraining troops, reforming police forces, protecting civilians, reforming legal systems, assisting in economic reconstruction, and sometimes administering the entire state until a new government can take over. In other words, after civil wars, peacekeepers are often charged not only with military monitoring duties, but with reforming the essential institutions of the state (Peacekeeping, Peace Enforcement, and UN Reform Lise Morjé Howard, P 1 2). There are three ways that peacekeepers are able to use their power in order to succeed. These three ways include coercion, inducement, and persuasion. Coercion involves a display of power, like swagger, to wield off attacks. Troops use swagger in several scenarios. One of the most common times the use of swagger will occur is during policing, where troops will patrol the area. Since one of the main doctrines of peacekeeping involves not using force, this type of coercion has been deemed useful. Even though the majority of the time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This study will certainly find that as long as the legislation proposals on immigration do not originate from the Congress, the lawmakers will always manifest strong opposition. Despite a broad constitutional stipulation, the U.S. Supreme Court has long granted Congress exclusive control over immigration (Tichenor, 2013). How Congress conducts immigration politics and legislation reflects many of the old and new immigration patterns. While both instruments share similar characteristics, a drum consists of a very specific type of percussion instrument. Percussionists and drummers learn very early on to distinguish the difference by identifying the specific characteristics of each instrument. Main Differences Drums fall under the category of percussion instruments. However, not all percussion instruments can be considered drums. A drum specifically requires the instrument to produce an indefinite pitch and applies to instruments that are struck with drumsticks, mallets, beaters or the hands. Pitched Percussion Pitched percussion instruments are also commonly referred to as barred instruments. These instruments include any percussive instrument that must be struck to create sound, but produce a definite sound. Some examples of pitched percussion instruments are the xylophone, marimba, glockenspiel, tubular bells and the celesta. Each of these instruments are commonly available in symphony orchestras. This study investigates ELG hypothesis using quarterly time series data for the period 1980:1 2007:2 in Turkey. The hypothesis is tested by applying the cointegration and error correction procedures. EXPORT LED GROWTH [ELG] HYPOTHESIS Ricardo s theory of comparative advantage explains that countries should specialize in the production of commodities that they are most efficient at producing in relation to other countries, and trade those commodities with the rest of the world. It is possible to say that a country can export its commodities and consequently raise foreign currency, with which it can import the other commodities in need. The better a country is at producing its specialized commodities, the more revenue it will raise from its exports and the more it will be able to procure imports. This trade theory has given birth to a new direction for economic policy, namely the export led growth [ELG] hypothesis (Zuniga, 2000). Portrayal Of A Soldier In Movies Essay The Portrayal of a soldier When a movie portraying soldiers is being directed the director has to be very accurate about how the soldiers in his/her movie are being displayed. Most of people s ideas and theories about soldiers are from movies, this is why directors need to be as accurate as possible when displaying soldiers to their audience. After studying and reviewing several other war and soldier related texts I have realised that the common person s idea and opinion of a soldier is formed by the many films and texts they have read about soldiers. • 26. Biblical Allegory In The Edenian In a world where popular culture is ever changing, the Bible continues to provide inspiration for many cultural texts. The practice of religion has always been tied to popular music in a symbiotic way (Rauhut, 2017), and representations of the Bible remain prolific in popular music today. Sara Bareilles is an American pop rock and soul artist, who achieved mainstream success with her 2007 song (I m not gonna write you a) love song. Her third album The Blessed Unrest was released in 2013, and features the song Eden (Bareilles, Sara Hales, Matt. 2013), a song that contains heavy biblical connotations. The lyrics of Eden are symbolic of the traditional story of Adam and Eve in Genesis 2 and 3 from the Christian Old Testament, and demonstrate how music continues to be influenced by the Bible in the 21st Century. The song Eden offers an excellent example of the way biblical allegory can be used to retell stories from the Bible through music, however it also shows how popular culture provides alternative interpretations of biblical texts as well. In this essay, I will first explore the world in the text through an in depth analysis of the biblical allegory within the lyrics of Eden, to show how it conveys the traditional story from Genesis 2 and 3. I will then go on to consider the world behind the text; discussing how Eden is inspired by Bareilles own life, and the way artistic decisions made within the song differ from the interpretation of the traditional biblical text. ... The Minimum Drinking Age Act Some people find it hard to understand that at the age of eighteen you can fight and die for your country, but you cannot legally drink or purchase alcoholic beverages. Others find it hard to believe that there are people who want people under the age of twenty one drinking. The important question is: should the drinking age be lowered to eighteen instead of remaining at twenty one? The legal drinking age is the age at which a person can consume or purchase alcohol. These laws cover a wide range of issues and behaviors, addressing when and where alcohol can be consumed. The National Minimum Drinking Age Act was passed by Congress 30 years ago. This law told states that they had to enforce the drinking age of 21 or lose up to ten percent of their federal highway funding. The idea that a person was fully an adult at age 21 relates to an English common law. 21 was the age where a person could vote and become a knight. If a person was 21, they could drink then, too. Franklin Roosevelt approved lowering the minimum age for the military draft from 21 to 18 during World War II. Organizations like Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) began pushing for the national drinking age to be set at 21. They thought it would keep alcohol out of the hands of 18 year olds who they felt were less mature. As a result, President Reagan signed the National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 to set the age at 21. Legislation concerning the legal minimum drinking age in the United States can be ... Islam was brought to Iran via Arab Islamic conquest in 650 AD and has played a shifting, anomalous role in this nation state ever since. The ideas of nationalism, secularism, religion, and revolution are unique in this Muslim country. Iranians, unlike many of their neighbors, hold on very strongly to their pre Islamic roots and achievements; sentiments of nationalism are apparent throughout Iranian history and in the everyday conversations of Iranians. In order to illustrate the role of Islam in Iran and the contemporary Iranian situation, I will analyze the concept of an Islamic state, the legitimacy of Islam in modern day Iran with notes on ... Others would contend that some of today s nations, albeit influenced by Western culture and politicized through modern statecraft, are no less Islamic, understanding that the diversity of historical circumstances in which they try to apply that ideal introduces a necessary element of relativity and imperfection... [al Turabi 241]. An Islamic State, it seems, is a conjectural model, which can maintain varying practical paradigms. As the sole Muslim nation that installed Islamic principles into the political arena through a popular revolution, the Islamic Republic of Iran, or jomhoury e eslami e iran, henceforward referred to as Iran, serves as an appropriate case to consider. The country s official title represents the paradox of the question, as it embodies both the notion of an Islamic state and a modern Republic. Determining whether this heterogeneity has produced an un Islamic system remains one enterprise of this writing. • 42. The Destruction Of American Society In The 19th Century Society is a structure that besieges every individual. Its daunting presence is inescapable. Throughout the 19th century, the American people were trapped in a rapidly industrializing nation flooded with corruption and greed. A few crucial advancements did result from this tumult, such as the invention of the lightbulb and the integration of women into the working class. However, these advancements, while substantial, did little to make up for the distressing state American society was in. Pollution prowled the streets, and crime levels were colossal. Big businesses would stop at nothing to gain power and profits. Shortly following the close of the 19th century was the Great Depression; a time of immeasurable poverty and suffering. In Eric ... Finding a job was onerous, as there were too few jobs available to fulfil the demands of the growing population. Cities became flooded with the unemployed. Likewise, as more and more companies failed, thousands of families lost their only source of income. Due to economic constraints, layoffs and wage cuts became routine. It seemed as if employment was always temporary; it provided a brief glimpse of relief before it was snatched away by the claws of society. Eventually, even Burnham, a man with a reputation for being an honorable employer, had to join the trend and let many of his employees go. When the Chicago World s Fair officially closed, over ten thousand jobs disappeared. Burnham knew that, The dismissed men... faced homelessness and poverty; their families confronted the real prospect of starvation (Larson 155). Within the last several centuries, American society had evolved in such a way that a job was necessary for survival. Money provided all the basic needs. Because farming was difficult in crowded and polluted cities, nearly all people relied on their wages to provide food for their families. In addition to food, money provided housing, clothing, and education. Without salary, families were faced with a survival burden. They struggled to pay the bills they owed, and place food upon the table. The prospect of starvation was extremely present, yet there was little meaningful effort to improve these conditions. Workers continued to be paid minimal wages, and get laid off. The employers knew what lay ahead for their newly unemployed workers, but they made little effort to change their fates. The government did not provide much support to its poverty struck citizens. Consequently, all of society suffered. In the midst of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Immanuel Kant On Good Will Analysis Immanuel Kant writes about good will and according to him, good will is very objective. He states that the only thing that is undoubtedly good in the world is the good will itself. Other qualities like wealth, intelligence and bravery, for example, are characteristics in a person that can be used for good or evil. Good will, on the other hand, is unquestionably good because even though it might not bring positive results at all times, the good will in itself was always there and that person was driven by good and pure motivations all along regardless if the end result was good or not. In addition, monetary compensation for a good action would not make a good action pure because that person was motivated by external elements instead of his or her own good will. Furthermore, as human beings we possess obligations of good will and these obligations are called duties . For example, all people should help somebody ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regardless of what the final result might be, good will should always have the intention to do good without any external factors influencing the person to do a good deed. To a certain extent, this ties into the utilitarian philosophy because if good deeds cause pleasure, and pleasure leads to happiness, then that means that the society as a whole is happier and therefore they are more utile and more prosperous. When it comes to defining good will , Kant seems to be taking an approach very similar to the one found in the Bible, so in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew, 7:12) At the end of the day, the intended purpose of these teachings, is to help us live a better and more fulfilling lifestyle by helping those in need and understand why we do these actions. What motivates us to do these actions? Why do we do them? These are all questions that not only Immanuel Kant intend to answer but the Bible as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Introduction And Design Of The Study CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION AND DESIGN OF THE STUDY 1.1 Introduction Over the last few decades information technology has played an important role in Indian economy. It has affected all the industries especially the banking industry and has provided a way for the banks to differentiate their products and services. The traditional way of financial services delivered to customers called the branch based operations which had been used by the banks for more than 200 years, has been replaced by the advent of multiple technologies and application. It is estimated that the world will use all of the fossil fuels sometime in the next 50 100 years. Either we need to find a way of slowing down the use of fossil fuels or we need to convert to a new source of energy. The convergence of Las Vegas and Google are examples of why, as a country, we need to use more renewable energy. • 46. Volunteering In High Schools J.J. Watt, an American football defensive end for the Houston Texans, once said, My mom taught me from a young age to give back and volunteer any chance you get. (Brainyquote). Despite gaining all the fame and money from the NFL (National Football League), the defensive end believes in the power and the potential of volunteering by altruistically helping out Hurricane Harvey victims with necessary supplies such as water, food, and other basic needs (USA Today). There certainly has to be a sort of flare that ignites the heart of a volunteer in order to selflessly aid others, as exemplified by Watt. Yet, that aspect of community service is presently vague among many high schools. Currently, many high schools require students to volunteer for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately one major question arises from this obligation. Does mandatory volunteering truly invoke the spirit of volunteering? Selective colleges, in general, are more stringent than they were in the past by the recruiting process. In fact, the admission committees of these respective colleges accurately discern inadequate applications from powerful ones, especially in relationship to the commitment level of community service. Passion for community service is a vital indicator for recruiting. They desire students who strongly dedicate themselves to volunteer with something that coincides with their interests or major. However, mandatory volunteering generates a belief that community service is a hindrance and a deliberate waste of time towards obtaining a diploma. The embodiment of community service diminishes as these educational institutions continue to exercise their power to regulate civic engagement. Thus, selective colleges are likely to identify and reject those who only fulfill the negative aspects of mandatory ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Much is still unknown about the effects of such changes and these questions cause many debates about what is true. The benefits of modifying our food consists of more resilient crops, better looking products, and larger crop yields. The video attempts to influence a younger audience by depicting a cartoon and advertising a mobile video game at the end. The author claims that their company represents the scarecrow who uses unmodified foods rather than the competitor s GMOs. Chipotle, the creator of the video, successfully uses, symbolism, personification, and tone to take a stance on modified food. The creator uses symbolism throughout the video to show how misleading Crow Foods Incorporated is to their customers. The crow is depicted as the face of the food company. These birds are known to be dirty and sneaky. In this instance the company hides the truth about what they actually sell. The scarecrow represents the average working class person.
