Hermia s Dream
With regards to William Shakespeare s comedy, A Midsummer Night s Dream, the theme of love plays
a central role throughout the play. When separating the play into its separate worlds being: the social
world and the green/comic world, the norms regarding love differs from one world to the next. With
reference to the given extract of Lysander and Hermia in the comic world, certain threatening forces
within the comic world surface to interfere with plot as well as the way in which these dark forces are
driven out in order for the play to remain comedic instead of tragic. The world in which the lovers plot
is predominantly set is in the comic world, where the comedic element of the play is brought to life.

As well as bio engineering helps patients, it s also helps another part of the medicine
II. Bio engineering helps doctors also.
It s helps doctors to do their jobs easily and more accurately in a short time. They do that because of
the technical advantage that devices have. o For example, when I fall down, I thought that I broke my
hand because the pain was unbelievable. I went to the doctor, and he was not sure if I broke my hand
or not. After that he sent me to x ray to know if I broke my hand or not.
In that way the x ray help the doctor to know what the real problem in short time.

Constantine The Great And Flavius Valerius Constantinus
PART A
Constantine, more formally known as Constantine the Great or Flavius Valerius Constantinus, was
born on the 27th of February in possibly 280 CE. Constantine was a Roman, and subsequently
Emperor known to be Christian. Flavius Valerius Constantius, whom was an army officer, was his
father, whilst his mother is named Helena thought to possibly be a concubine of his father. His father
is known for being raised to the title of Caesar, becoming known as Constantius Chlorus, granted 3
years of peaceful rule due to the treachery of the previous ruler of Roman Britain. The key influences
for Constantine are firstly his father. Having been able to watch the ascendancy of his father to
Emperor, and follow in his footsteps to become Emperor of Rome himself it is clearly evident that
Constantine s father was a great role model. Constantine also found himself under the tutelage of
Diocletian after his father took him to the East Empire becoming known as a youth amongst the
leaders there.
PART B
Constantine is most notably recognized due to his leadership as Emperor of Rome, and the way in
which he gained power and held it for such a long time. The first thing that he is best known for is that
he was the first of the Roman Emperors to embrace the Christian faith, going against he paradigms
and religion of the time. Before Constantine, Christianity was tolerated, but much persecution ensued.
His shift to Christianity made it legal, and it became the official religion of the

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction
According to Ilda (2011) on her post to the website to Get Real Philippines!, Filipinos in general have
the desire to be on a permanent state of euphoria or at least with being supposed to be a happy go
lucky society no matter what circumstances they are in. Happy go lucky is a characteristic of a person
in which he is optimistic on things around him, takes things lightly, and often smiles. Often, Filipinos
get their smiles while watching television. According to the study of Sigmund Freud, watching
television can cause absorption and imaginative involvement, a defense mechanism to escape one s
problems. Many people consider the hour of study, as very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Analysis Of The Movie Ironweed By William Kennedy
As a former newspaperman turned American Writer, William Kennedy is known for writing novels in
which incidents and historic movements of his birthplace Albany, New York, are featured. One of
Kennedy s most well known pieces of literature, Ironweed (1983), is the third book in Kennedy s
Albany cycle. Taking place during the Great Depression, the story of Ironweed s protagonist Francis
Phelan, a once major league third baseman, murderer of three, and a drunk, is depicted. Residing in
Albany with his family, a freak accident tore Francis 13 day old son, Gerald, away from him.
Tormented by that horrific event, Francis fled from his family and the ties to the event, being forced to
wander the streets, seeking both nourishment and appeasement from the overbearing guilt plaguing his
soul. After twenty two years of perpetually chasing away his damaged soul, with outbursts of lethal
violence, ignoring all responsibilities and opportunity for honest work; after surviving
malnourishment, frigid temperatures, and alcoholism, Francis finally found rock bottom. At this
realization, Francis decides to return to Albany with hopes of reconciling his actions of the past, and to
rekindle the relationship he once held with his family. His inner thoughts of himself are of disgust,
calling himself a sinner, and one undeserving of happiness. It is for that reason and the years of
running away from himself that Francis finds difficulty in revealing his vulnerable side, often pushing

Gender Norms In The Media
Media is defined as any form of communication; however, the term is mainly used for television,
radio, and the Internet. Regardless of the form it takes, media holds the power to construct and reflect
our own sense of identity, in both affirmative and detrimental ways (199). In American society, the
media makes many assumptions based on gender, race, and religion that directly affects how people in
a society view each other. Media creates many assumptions on the female gender that generates
people s views on femininity.
... marketers are constantly conflating the separate constructs of sex, gender, and sexuality. They
assume female means feminine means heterosexual. They assume all women are feminine and would

One religion that contains bias from the media is the Amish. Amish settlements have become a cliché
for refusing technology. Tens of thousands of people wear identical, plain, homemade clothing,
cultivate their rich fields with horse drawn machinery, and live in houses lacking that basic modern
spirt called electricity (Rheingold 221). The media takes a very sophisticated belief into an assumption
that suggests that Amish do not use technology at all. Another religion that contains bias from the
media is Islam. According to the media, Islam is a religion associated with terrorism. This media
assumption is based on the, emergence of the self proclaimed Islamic State group (ISIS) which
allegedly shows videos of the beheadings of their prisoners who are most often journalists (Espiritu).
This has caused people to use the terms Muslim and Terrorist interchangeably. Not all Muslims who
associate with Islam are terrorists. For example, Malala Yousafzai, a Muslim, is the youngest Nobel
Peace Prize winner and an education activist. Media also makes assumptions on the religion for Jews,
Judaism. Jews are often interpreted as incredibly prosperous, cheap, and unkind. In truth, Jewish
people can be wealthy or poor, intelligent or less intelligent, kind or otherwise (Media Portrayals of

Criminalization Of Schools
Education has remained a source for continued politicizing and legislating for years. Whenever policy
is discussed at a national, state or local level, it seems that education makes it ways into the
conversation on some level. While many institutions and business have enjoyed increased
deregulation, the regulation of education has increased tremendously. The very institution charged
with preparing children and young people to function in society as participating citizens is plagued
with the most rules. There is no argument that students should be entitled to a safe and substantial
education in school and rules must be in place to maintain a level of order in order to allow for
learning. However, there have been two polices that impacted the ... Show more content on

Zero Tolerance policies have criminalized normal disruptive classroom behavior, and ha[s] generally
involved harsh disciplinary consequences such as long term and/or permanent suspension or expulsion
for violations, and often arrest which are often enacted on minor or non violent violations of rules
such as tardiness and disorderly conduct (Heitzeg 9). On the other hand, the existence of No Child
Left Behind finds that the higher the stakes and the longer such an accountability system governs
schools, the more school personnel view students not as children to educate but as potential liabilities
(Rice University). In fact, the No Child Left Behind Act represents another kind of extension of the
crime model in education (Simon 226). Both regulations have positioned students as the enemy. The
negative impact and pressure that has evolved in the school environment is palatable. Students
behavior is more of a focus than their learning; teachers are under pressure to teach and maintain
credentials, administrators have become police in monitoring both the teachers and the students in
order for the school to remain in operation. In fact, teachers are affected by both regulations since
accountability as a system

Short Stories About Failure And Help, Perseverance, And Faith
I am honored to be speaking here today. Eighth grade was a fun, but tough year. At the beginning of
eighth grade I was excited and worried for the year to come. Now I think of this year and I think of
how fast it went, the fun I had, and the troubles I had. I think of how I am going into high school. It s
hard to believe. I am not here to talk to you about freaking out about high school. I want to tell you
about eighth grade and what you will experience. I have three stories to tell you. Only three. Three
stories about failure and help, perseverance, and faith. The first story is about failure. Failure is
something I was afraid of, especially in math. I never wanted to fail. I wanted to try my best and do
amazing on everything. Sadly, being perfect isn t how the world works. In math, at the end of the year,
I was really worried about a unit we were doing. At first I thought I knew what I was doing. I had a
good handle on the problems in class and on the homework. When it came to the first quiz, I failed it.
When I saw the score on the computer screen I almost burst into tears. I was harder on myself than
anyone was on me. I knew I tried my best, but I didn t feel like it. I had never failed before. The
teacher came around the next day and asked if I needed any extra help. At first I was thinking, no. I do
not need help. Later that night I changed my mind. I went to her class during my lunch and she
answered my questions and helped me on some practice problems. For the

Power In Dracula
The Gothic world is fascinated by the struggle for power . In light of this statement, discuss the ways
in which writers present types of power. Gothic writers are fascinated by power struggles, but often
shock readers by reversing conventional power differences. Examples of this include the power of
rationality against religion, and the female voice and sexuality being powerful, highly controversial
topics during the Victorian era. These power struggles often reflect the writer s own experiences and
views, for example Poe frequently presents power struggles between humans and the supernatural due
to losing his loved ones, and mental illness. Similarly, in Dracula , Stoker portrays the supernatural as
powerful, but with strong sexual undertones, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carter uses sexual dominance in The Bloody Chamber as a metaphor for women s social inequality
with He in his London tailoring; she, bare as a lamb chop . The separation of the pronoun she
represents the isolation forced upon her by her overbearing husband. The girl is also mentioned after
the Marquis in this sentence, showing how she ranks after him and has no control now that she s
married. Women are often seen as passive as the Marquis assesses the girl with the eyes of a
connoisseur , implying that she is an object to be owned and lusted after. Sivyer writes the man
assumes an active and dominant role whilst his bride is positioned as passive . Her passivity is shown
when she says He made me put on my choker , she was forced to do it and offered no resistance. The
choker itself represents her captivity as it s similar to a collar, implying that the Marquis is her owner,
also exemplified as he calls her my little nun . This condescension mocks the girl for her innocence,
asserting the Marquis s dominance, but also the possessive pronoun my shows ownership; he believes
that his wife belongs to him. Interestingly, Dracula uses similar possessive language to assert power
over another male (Jonathan), exclaiming This man belongs to me! This declarative statement shows
that he has decided that Jonathan is his property, showing his desire for dominance and possession to
exhibit his power. His wickedness is

Negative Portrayals Of Single Parented Parents
Coming from a family with a single parent can become a problem within itself, but with only having
one parent, the child is faced with being an outcast and classified as different than the rest of the
children. When a parent comes from a bad past, society assumes the same for their children. For a
child of these type of parents, it is hard to get out of this situation and defy the odds set on them by
society. In television shows such as Weeds and Mom, there are many examples of these portrayals of
the parents and their children. Negative portrayals in television shows of single parented families
through comedic relief gives the children of these families a negative mindset, while being compared
to these poor depictions in these shows. A child that has went through this traumatic experience will
go through hard times, but will try to look at the positive sides of things that they come to challenge
with. In his book, Psychological well being and quality of parenting among children of single parent
family, Kiran Sahu stated that The psychological well being includes meaning in life, absence of
somatic symptoms, self esteem, positive effect, daily activities, suicidal thoughts, personal control
social support, absence of tension and general efficiency (531). The television show, Weeds, focuses
on a single mother, Nancy Bloom, who has an early bad depiction in the show. After her husband,
Judah, dies unexpectedly, Nancy has to take the center position in her family. After becoming faced
with financial problems after her husband s death and dark past coming back to haunt the family,
Nancy has to become a drug dealer for her neighborhood and family to survive. Nancy is having to
deal with these financial struggles and taking care of her three children: Silas, Shane, and Steven. With
having both of their parents in the negative spotlight of the community, these children have a hard
time trying to reach success in their city. With the death of Judah and having their mom to rely on,
each child acts in different ways. Silas, the oldest, was devastated when his father Judah died, and he
took his emotions out on everyone and started depending on drugs to forget about it. In season 1,
episode 10 of Weeds, Silas is shown

Examples Of Plagiarism In Modern Times
Modern Times, Plagiarize Crimes In 2006 Bob Dylan, a famous singer songwriter created an album
called Modern Times. This album grew instant success becoming number one on the Billboard charts.
Soon after its release, audiences found some things that were unsettling, which led to the start of
allegations. Very similar comparisons were found between Dylan s album and Henry Timrod s poems
like phrases that were copied verbatim. With these accusations Dylan and many others came to his
defense, stating that this is merely just folk process but with no credit to the source, this simply is not
excusable. His techniques in hiding this theft by changing the context and lack of acknowledgment to
the original author is a sign of complete and utter disrespect. Seeing the supportive evidence and
similarity between Bob Dylan s album and Henry Timrod s poetry, it is evident that this is more than
just a coincidence and is clearly plagiarised. In this particular situation, the debate is not whether or
not Bob Dylan used Timrods work or if Dylan even knows who Timrod is, instead the debate is over
whether Dylan s use of Timrod s poems was plagiarism, folk process or an allusion to Henry. Dylan s
interest in the Civil War mentioned in Chronicles:Vol. I(Rich), was definitely something that gave his
source away. Since Henry Timrod was a poet that wrote about the Civil War, it it easy to see how
Dylan might have stumbled across his work and heavily studied it due to his fascination with it. In
Modern Times it is easy to see the resemblance to Timrod s poetry in most songs like When the Deal
Goes Down , Spirit on the Waters and Workingman s Blue #2 . For example in the poem A Rhapsody
of a Southern Winter Night multiple phrases like A round of precious hours , frailer than the flowers
and wisdom that grows up in strife (qtd Timrod) are taken word for word and were put into Dylan s
song When the Deal Goes Down . The singer decided to change the context of the wording in some
parts but in others they had the exact same meaning. In Henry Timrod s poem he is comparing logic to
flowers whereas Dylan compared the precious hours to the flowers. Chris Dineen, a fan says It seems
kind of duplicitous. Even casual fans know

The narrative voice suggests that their mirth derives in part from their freedom to transgress
differences such as those between the segregated communities that characterize much of the city. The
protagonists hope is infectious, but the narrative voice, reflecting on the thoughts of other passengers

Argument For Promotion Of Core Csr
I am a Must/Must/Can and through this paper, I will argue my middle must against my opponent
(Milton Friedman s) must not argument for promotion of core CSR.
WE MUST PROMOTE CORE CSR vs WE MUST NOT PROMOTE CORE CSR
Milton Friedman, in his work titled, The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase its Profits ,
emphasizes the role of business in society is to maximize shareholder wealth, and likens any activity
misaligned with regard to that mission as stealing . In my argument against Milton Friedman s must
not engage in core CSR stance, I would like to introduce the argument of expanding the responsibility
of business to only maximize profit. Before I elaborate, please consider the following example:
GlaxoSmithKline( henceforth referred to as GSK), the 6th largest pharmaceutical, publicly traded firm
in the world, that in March 2016 stopped filing drug patents in low income countries such as
Botswana, and partnered with NGO s to administer vaccinations and screen for conditions like
malnutrition and HIV. In fact, one of GSK s medications administered through this program, saves
about 0.5 M Botswanans per year from malaria. The argument promoting core CSR rests on an
analysis of the Responsibility Gap , as described by Margolis J of Harvard Business School. The
responsibility gap analyses the responsibilities that firms have beyond their financial obligations and
fiduciary responsibilities. On the individual level, humans have limited capacity to

Analysis Of Marcus Aurelius And Cicero
Both Marcus Aurelius and Cicero try to create a guide, based on their stoic views, on how a person is
supposed to live a purposeful life. Marcus Aurelius was an emperor and Cicero was a politician, so
both serve somebody or something. In Cicero s On Friendship he bases his guides on what he has
learned from important people in his life. In Marcus Aurelius Meditations he bases his guide off of
what he has learned as an emperor with stoic views. Some of what he Aurelius has learned is different
from Cicero s view of stoicism; an example of this is in section seven of Meditations. Section seven of
Meditations is about what Aurelius learned from his tutor. He states, Endure hardship, and have few
needs; to do things for myself and not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This point goes with what was previously stated, Cicero encourages doing things together and
allowing a friend to help. He also encourages interference with a friend s hardships or needs. In
section 73, Cicero answers the question, how much should we aid our friends? His answer is, We must
give them only such aid as is within our powers; second, only as much as the man we love and wish to
help can himself sustain (Cicero 77). Cicero definitely believes we should get involved with our friend
s issues but to a certain extent. As long as we can handle the amount of aid given and they can sustain
the amount given. Cicero does not believe friends should help with every little issue but he would say
that they should help with the larger issues that we cannot handle ourselves. Cicero would also
disagree with the point, turn a deaf ear to slander . Again, Cicero seems to be very confrontational. In
Cicero s view, he talks about flattery as a kind of slander. He is definitely against the use of flattery,
but he does not believe it should be ignored. He states in section 89, We may admonish, but we must
not scold; we may reprimand, but we must not humiliate (Cicero 84). Cicero believes people who
flatter should be confronted, whether it s by criticism or by reprimanding. He would say that they
should know what they are doing wrong because flattery is one of the worst things a friend could do.

Comparing Two Metaphors
Under the tree light has dropped from the top of the sky, light like a green latticework of branches,

These are two poems about nature. Now they are talking about the same thing. Well, they say it
differently, you see the first one is talking about how the sun is rising and it shines on every leaf and
they use a simile which is just perfect. Then on the second one, then they use many, many metaphors
which are ok, but they rhyme a little which is better for the reader and it is longer and so they make it
more interesting. They are very interesting, and they make you want to just get up and go outside. So
you can feel what they are talking about so should right now just get off the couch and go outside. Run

If an individual opens the door without knocking to make the staff in the room aware that someone is
entering they can push the door into the children which can cause them to fall over. This could cause
bruising or cuts to head, legs or arms depending how they fall. Also as the doors are not very heavy
the children are capable of opening them themselves and leaving the room that they are in. If this is
unnoticed by any of the staff the staff it puts the child in great danger if they leave the building or if
they choose to hide in another area. Ways to resolve and minimise the risks of these hazards occurring
again would be to replace the old doors with new fire doors which would be heavy enough so the
children would be unable to open them. The doors would also have a thin strip of glass so the
individuals can see inside before entering although they should knock and wait for response to. A
finally idea to minimise this risk would be to fix finger guards to the hinges of every door so no one s
fingers can be caught in between. Another hazard that could occur is the nappy bin overflowing the
babies this is placed in both the 0 to 1 year old room and always the toilets that used for only the
children. Children of the younger age may try to pull these items from the bin this puts bacteria and
germs onto their hands if this is unnoticed their hands will not be washed and they may touch toys or

The ship is carved from a blue grey type of Rhodian marble and stands 10 6½ tall. When found, the
ship was in several pieces which have been plastered together to recreate the whole sculpture for
display purposes. On it are very small traces of paint which indicate the base of the sculpture along
with the goddess Nike were most likely at one point painted, however the paint traces are
unintelligible. The form of the ship includes heavy shapes with very hard lines that also have a very
sensual feel to them. The ship itself is very realistically represented with its shape and its apex, along
with its many attachments including an oar box, doubled rows of oar slots, and a battering ram that
extends outward and upward off the front of the prow. Using the warship as the base of the Nike aids
in portraying her sense of motion. The naturalism and the drama of The Nike of Samothrace and her
warship are intensified further by the physical setting of the pair. The ship was originally placed on
top of 6 tiles of rippled marble which most likely represented seascape and movement. Evidence
implies that the sculpture as a whole may have been used as a part of a fountain which would also
enhance the realistic effect of movement, presence, and drama surrounding The Nike of

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Electricity, Heating And...
Electricity, Heating Water Electricity, heating and water consumption can be substantial costs, which
you need to monitor and preferably compare with local standards, so you get a notion of any
exaggerated usage. In addition, consider that children unaware of cost will consume more than adults,
i.e. teach them to save on electricity, heating water. When they are children, invent games that teach
them the right attitude, e.g. reduce the greenhouse effect and help avoiding that the polar bears drown.
Electricity Obvious saving tips are, only turn on the light, when you need it, turn off electrical
appliances when not in use, but ideas for preventing paying too much for electricity are plenty: Get the

They found that women are worst at this, but are also better at selling the clothes again. One of the
causes are impulse buys, therefore, a remedy would be avoid sales, window shopping, outlet visits or
browsing the internet shops for ideas, when not having anything better to do. Instead, prepare a
shopping list in advance and stick to it, e.g. only buy the new trousers you actually need. Another way
to reduce impulse buys is; leave the debit cards at home when you are shopping and bring cash
instead, which may be harder to spend; the cost becomes real. In addition, it is also easier to limit the
amount you put in your pocket in advance. Some claim that it is possible to dress nicely for everyday
and parties for little money. The straightforward solution would be buying clothes and shoes in the
supermarket, but you can actually buy fashion and branded clothing at decent prices on the internet.
The internet offers several advantages; a large selection, buy with a few clicks when you have the time

Change In Education
Over the years, different things evolve and change from what society is used to. For example, devices
were introduced to have a conversation with people miles away; however, as time continued,
individuals were able to talk without a wire restricting them from walking out of the kitchen. Over the
decades, the style in males and females changed drastically as well. Although people say change is
good, some change might have virtuous intentions but they end up being severely detrimental.
Colleges should not interfere with the constant flow of education by incorporating a distraction from
learning; however, college officials should merely strive for their students to be comfortable not
pampered. Louisiana State University installed a lazy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regardless if she is biased or not, a pool in the shape of LSU that has a steady current does not ensure
wellbeing and balance at all. To point out, places to study and take naps are more appropriate in
restoring sanity than a place to soak up ultra violet rays from the sun. It simply is not feasible to
believe the new lazy river will encourage people to go home and study for exams or finish degrees.
The lazy river may influence individuals to apply there, but that does not guarantee the academic
savvy students to attend college there. A lazy river is deeming the college to be more along the lines of
a water park. Baton Rouge has plenty of relaxing places to be sociable and restore wellbeing
including: the huge water park called Blue Bayou, the numerous beauty salons, and the countless

as if they are having their independence ripped away from them. One may feel dependent on the
college, because while they are going to school they are spoiled. Once he or she graduates and are

Public Education Flaws
Possibly one of the most critical issues the nation is faced with is public education in the United
States. One time declaring the United States as a Nation at Risk , the educational commissions started
to carry out one reform policy after another. With attempts to improve education, there have been
reformers have modified class sizes, graduation requirements have been revised, and standardized
testing implemented. Proponents of the policy feel that America s public education system has
improved, children are receiving the best instruction from the most qualified teachers, because of the
increase in funding students receive extra help and parents now have a choice in what is best for their
students education.

Teachers devote more time to getting students ready for tests in basic skills, which determine which

unrealistic goal would face a sequence of penalties, ending in staff being laid off and schools closing.
Prior to NCLB, public schools were rarely closed for performing poorly on standardized tests. School
administrators and districts understood that inadequate student performance reflected the social and
economic surroundings of their students. It does not make sense to punish schools on the account of
their students that are living in poverty. This particular policy allows the government to enforce
regulations that are out of reach and many schools do not dispute it because they need the

The Atmosphere Built Up By Jonny Greenwood
There Will Be Blood takes place in the early 1900 s, where prospector Daniel Plainview sets out on a
journey to claim his fortune though oil drilling. The longing for riches, and the slow accent into
madness are the key components in what makes the film and it s character so enticing. The atmosphere
built up by Daniel is completed by the unique orchestral sounds; feelings of woe, suspense, fear, and
uncertain conclusions are skillfully captured. The pace of the film, the various scores, and a deeply
driven character all sum up to a masterfully skilled piece of work. Scored by Jonny Greenwood, lead
guitarist from the band RadioHead, uses his skills as a composer to deliver a unique sound that pairs
well with the film. Described as RadioHead s jack of all trades, Greenwood is skilled in plying not
only the guitar, but also the xylophone, sampler, keyboards and the ondes Marenot, the instrument
used in the film (Bekkala). Showing his master in rock; his interest span to other genres including
classical. His inspirations come from Messiaen and Ligeti, two paramount 20th century composers
skilled in serialism and postmodernism respectively. Their influences are clearly shown in Greenwood
s There Will Be Blood scores. Another composer, Penderecki,a modern skilled composer and
conductor also shows in Greenwood s work. I love hearing Penderecki played by live orchestras there

The Deaths And Causes Of The Black Death
The Black Death is a deadly disease that arrived in Europe by sea October 1347. It was 12 Genoese
trading ships that docked at the Sicilian port of a Messina after their long travels through the Black
Sea. When the people who gathered at the dock was met with a horrific accident. Many people one the
crew was dead and the people who were alive was very ill. They weren t able to keep food down
because of the pain they were enduring, also overcoming a fever. But the weird thing was that they
were covered in mysterious black books that had blood and puss coming from them. By the time they
ordered for the ships to be taking away from the docks it was already too late so over the next five
years the Black Death would kill more than 20 million people in Europe and that s almost ⅓ of Europe
s population. Indeed, even before the Death ships maneuvered into port at Messina, numerous
Europeans had heard bits of gossip about an Awesome Epidemic that was cutting a lethal way over the
exchange courses of the Close and Far East. (Ahead of schedule in the 1340s, the illness had struck
China, India, Persia, Syria and Egypt.) Be that as it may, they were hardly prepared for the ghastly
reality of the Dark Demise. In men and ladies alike, the Italian writer Giovanni Boccaccio expressed,

Music Synthesis Essay
The piece Touraman contains key structural principles associated with West African music despite the
different versions of Bembeya Jazz National and Lansana Diabate. The structural principles include an
ostinato pattern, improvisation, triple meter, ensemble stratification, and hocketing. In the Bembeya
version, the piece starts with a guitar flourish and then the test of the band comes in. The bass is
keeping the ostinato while the guitars interlock and at certain points improvise; the trumpet improvises
as well. This version also features some call and response, as the lead singer sings a line and the
backing vocals reply in unison. Diabate s version is in the traditional jeli style, so the piece is played

The traditional version is likely to be played at a patron s event or accompanying a traditional
ceremony, while the modern version is more of a social music played at dance halls/concerts. A couple
reasons for the difference are the instrumentation and sociopolitical context of each version. Diabate
uses traditional jeli instruments, which are non electric and specific to jelis, while Bembeya uses
amplified big band instrumentation. A traditional ceremony in a village is not going to use electric
guitars and bass, just as a large cosmopolitan dance hall is not going to use balas and Koran recitation.
The two places are using music as a means for different ends one as a vessel for history and one as a
stamp of modernity. This leads to the sociopolitical context; jelis are born into their profession and
have certain rules around their music, while bands like Bembeya Jazz National were formed by the
state (Guinea) to play music around the country during post independence. While state bands included
jeli musicians, the instrumentation was different and the purpose behind the music was different as
well. State bands were Sekou Toure s way to improve morale and encourage modernity during the
unstable time following independence. So, Diabate s version is meant to be traditional, while
Bembeya s version is meant to be

General Grain Theory Case Study
The third part of the general strain theory is the removal of positively valued stimuli. The removal of
positively valued stimuli could include many things. Some things that could be involved in negative
stimuli could be the death of a family member/friend, the loss of a relationship, the loss of a substance
that one might be addicted to, (coffee, drugs, videogames etc.) the loss of previously owned money, or
even the loss of a cell phone. The removal of positively valued stimuli could include anything that was
valued and then is taken away by some force (Bernard, Snipes, and Gerould, 2010, p. 164 165). In the
case of the Walmart shooting, one can speculate that anything could have been taken from Willis,

Banning Books Should Be Banned
Throughout history many books have been banned, for many reasons. I believe that banning books is a
dangerous power to give the government or people in authority. Banning book is not only morally
unjust but also I believe that some of the reasons are also illegal. I will explain my opinion in the
following. Banning books can be a dangerous power because banning restricts authors. Today, people
are praised for individuality and uniqueness, and banning books contradicts that. Many authors write
about things that have happened in their lives or they express their way of living and banning a book
that doesn t fit in with what societies way of life is, is wrong. Society may believe in one thing but not
all people do. I also believe that banning books is a form of bullying. Banning is like telling the
author, you don t fit in with everyone else so you can t have books published. I guess, a authors are
supposed to put their beliefs on the back burner in order to make money from published books. In
history some authors were exiled because they wrote about social corruption. ... Show more content on

The Great Principles Of The American Revolution
The creation of the American nation became what it is today from years of struggle in which the
common people, as well as the Founding Fathers, played a vital part for independence. The promise of
the Revolution, a nation based on the republican ideals of liberty, independence, and equality, was to
some extent achieved. Yet the great principles of the Revolution have long shaped our thoughts of
what it means to be an American. All the events leading up and after the American Revolution will
have effects on the common people. The story of George Robert Twelves Hewes helps historians
comprehend the part that the common people played in their struggle for freedom and republican
ideals they wanted to achieve for the generations to come in the new nation. The common people were
important because if they didn t join John Hancock, Samuel Adams, and other wealthy leaders then
the American Revolution would have never taken place. The common people made up the bulk of the
Continental Army, without convincing the bulk of those people, they would have stayed loyal the King
George III. The common people in the colonial era of the United States were made mostly up of
people that worked in trade areas such as shoemakers, smiths, carpenters, and other trades within that
time. Most of them were poor, especially if a colonist was in the shoemaking trade. John Adams, said
that shoemaking was, too mean and diminutive an occupation, to hold a client of his who wanted to
rise in the world. 1

Once these vaccinations have been given, they cannot be removed from a child s body. The harm they

Seven vaccines injected into a 13 pound, two month old infant are equivalent to 70 doses in a 130

The recommended vaccination schedule becomes questionably when looked at like this. The
comparison between seven vaccines in an infant and seventy in a small adult is surprising. How can it
be considered safe to assume every young child s body can handle this; without looking at the
individual child? Not all children are the same, nor is their situation. It seems logical to think it would
be better to look at the individual child and their case to determine what is best for them. In order to
better understand why vaccinations should not be given the same for every child, it is important to
know what is in them. The CDC reassures parents all over their website that vaccination is safe. Many
physicians recommend vaccination for their patients, without hesitation. Vaccination is the thing to do

Health Of The Humber River Watershed By Collecting And...
Abstract This study was done to assess the health of the Humber River watershed by collecting and
analyzing benthic macro invertebrates. It was predicted that most of the species collected would have
high tolerances, and that the percentages of the benthic macro invertebrates would mostly fall in the
impaired or potentially impaired categories. Transects were measured out along the stream, and the D
net was held along the bottom to catch the invertebrates. Once 100 or more were caught, they were
then counted and identified. The Hilsenhof Biotic Index was use to calculate the total tolerance of the
organisms collected. The results showed that the distribution of species fell into the potentially
impaired category, while the total tolerance was in the unimpaired range. This could be an indicator of
a disturbance in the ecosystem that is affecting certain organisms more than others. The study was
mostly consistent with the hypothesis. Introduction This study was done to determine the health of the
Humber river watershed by testing the water quality. A watershed is a geographical area that drains
precipitation and water sources into the same place. Watersheds are essential in supporting ecosystems
around them and are vital to both plants and animals. The results of this study could be analyzed and
used as an indicator of a healthy or an impaired ecosystem. There are four main reasons that this study

Birth Of Samson Research Paper
Samson is the Bible s Hercules; since he is known as a great man of superhuman strength. Samson
was the last of the judges of the ancient Israelites. There were three judges who ruled Israel. The

That savior was Samson.

Friendship In On The Road
A Warped Representation of Friendship
In On the Road, Sal and Dean have developed a friendship that not only reflects themes in the classic
but, pop culture as well. Two men travel all over and share their experiences amongst each other. All
throughout the novel, we as readers, discover that their unique bond transcends the normal version of
friendship. Becoming brothers and ultimately comrades. A sense of madness develops in Sal in the
end. Dean is ultimately the role model for Sal but, we see that Sal thinks otherwise towards the end of
the novel. Their travels bond them together in a way that ordinary friendships rarely do.

Not only do Dean s motivations and passions seem to appeal to Sal, Dean shows off a sense of being
young and a natural man . While it seems like nearly everyone else in the novel considers Dean to be
irresponsible, Sal assumes that Dean s erratic behavior proves that he is on a whole different level of
living. In the beginning of the novel, we learn that Dean was involved in sketchy ordeals. He was
arrested for stealing cars in Denver. Instead of looking down on Dean for his actions, Sal instead
believes his actions are just an attempt at searching for pure joy or raw happiness. While I viewed
Dean s behavior otherwise from a negative perspective, Kerouac merely suggests that Dean s actions
are only the result of his quest for happiness. In addition to this, Dean s behavior is portrayed
sympathetically and is not responsible for what the world may see as irresponsible. Seeking out such
behavior is the only way that Sal and Dean see it, to finding the true meaning of life, also known as, It
.
As Sal analyzes Dean as prominently a hero, we as the audience, notice that Dean is incredibly
flawed. He often tends to abandon those who love him and feel absolutely no remorse whatsoever at
his poor judgement. His untimely actions prove that he is nowhere close to a hero. In my opinion, a
main part of the reason for why we seem to hate Dean is because we feel sorry for him. His
obliviousness of being a mess, makes him even more

When separating the play into its separate worlds being: the social world and the green/comic world, the norms regarding love differs from one world to the next. With reference to the given extract of Lysander and Hermia in the comic world, certain threatening forces within the comic world surface to interfere with plot as well as the way in which these dark forces are driven out in order for the play to remain comedic instead of tragic. • 4. Constantine The Great And Flavius Valerius Constantinus PART A Constantine, more formally known as Constantine the Great or Flavius Valerius Constantinus, was born on the 27th of February in possibly 280 CE. Constantine was a Roman, and subsequently Emperor known to be Christian. Flavius Valerius Constantius, whom was an army officer, was his father, whilst his mother is named Helena thought to possibly be a concubine of his father. His father is known for being raised to the title of Caesar, becoming known as Constantius Chlorus, granted 3 years of peaceful rule due to the treachery of the previous ruler of Roman Britain. The key influences for Constantine are firstly his father. Having been able to watch the ascendancy of his father to Emperor, and follow in his footsteps to become Emperor of Rome himself it is clearly evident that Constantine s father was a great role model. Constantine also found himself under the tutelage of Diocletian after his father took him to the East Empire becoming known as a youth amongst the leaders there. PART B Constantine is most notably recognized due to his leadership as Emperor of Rome, and the way in which he gained power and held it for such a long time. The first thing that he is best known for is that he was the first of the Roman Emperors to embrace the Christian faith, going against he paradigms and religion of the time. Before Constantine, Christianity was tolerated, but much persecution ensued. His shift to Christianity made it legal, and it became the official religion of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Analysis Of The Movie Ironweed By William Kennedy As a former newspaperman turned American Writer, William Kennedy is known for writing novels in which incidents and historic movements of his birthplace Albany, New York, are featured. One of Kennedy s most well known pieces of literature, Ironweed (1983), is the third book in Kennedy s Albany cycle. Taking place during the Great Depression, the story of Ironweed s protagonist Francis Phelan, a once major league third baseman, murderer of three, and a drunk, is depicted. Residing in Albany with his family, a freak accident tore Francis 13 day old son, Gerald, away from him. Tormented by that horrific event, Francis fled from his family and the ties to the event, being forced to wander the streets, seeking both nourishment and appeasement from the overbearing guilt plaguing his soul. After twenty two years of perpetually chasing away his damaged soul, with outbursts of lethal violence, ignoring all responsibilities and opportunity for honest work; after surviving malnourishment, frigid temperatures, and alcoholism, Francis finally found rock bottom. At this realization, Francis decides to return to Albany with hopes of reconciling his actions of the past, and to rekindle the relationship he once held with his family. His inner thoughts of himself are of disgust, calling himself a sinner, and one undeserving of happiness. It is for that reason and the years of running away from himself that Francis finds difficulty in revealing his vulnerable side, often pushing the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Regardless of the form it takes, media holds the power to construct and reflect our own sense of identity, in both affirmative and detrimental ways (199). In American society, the media makes many assumptions based on gender, race, and religion that directly affects how people in a society view each other. One religion that contains bias from the media is the Amish. Amish settlements have become a cliché for refusing technology. Tens of thousands of people wear identical, plain, homemade clothing, cultivate their rich fields with horse drawn machinery, and live in houses lacking that basic modern spirt called electricity (Rheingold 221). The media takes a very sophisticated belief into an assumption that suggests that Amish do not use technology at all. Another religion that contains bias from the media is Islam. According to the media, Islam is a religion associated with terrorism. This media assumption is based on the, emergence of the self proclaimed Islamic State group (ISIS) which allegedly shows videos of the beheadings of their prisoners who are most often journalists (Espiritu). This has caused people to use the terms Muslim and Terrorist interchangeably. Not all Muslims who associate with Islam are terrorists. For example, Malala Yousafzai, a Muslim, is the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner and an education activist. Media also makes assumptions on the religion for Jews, Judaism. Jews are often interpreted as incredibly prosperous, cheap, and unkind. • 8. Criminalization Of Schools Education has remained a source for continued politicizing and legislating for years. Whenever policy is discussed at a national, state or local level, it seems that education makes it ways into the conversation on some level. While many institutions and business have enjoyed increased deregulation, the regulation of education has increased tremendously. The very institution charged with preparing children and young people to function in society as participating citizens is plagued with the most rules. There is no argument that students should be entitled to a safe and substantial education in school and rules must be in place to maintain a level of order in order to allow for learning. However, there have been two polices that impacted the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Zero Tolerance policies have criminalized normal disruptive classroom behavior, and ha[s] generally involved harsh disciplinary consequences such as long term and/or permanent suspension or expulsion for violations, and often arrest which are often enacted on minor or non violent violations of rules such as tardiness and disorderly conduct (Heitzeg 9). On the other hand, the existence of No Child Left Behind finds that the higher the stakes and the longer such an accountability system governs schools, the more school personnel view students not as children to educate but as potential liabilities (Rice University). In fact, the No Child Left Behind Act represents another kind of extension of the crime model in education (Simon 226). Both regulations have positioned students as the enemy. The negative impact and pressure that has evolved in the school environment is palatable. Students behavior is more of a focus than their learning; teachers are under pressure to teach and maintain credentials, administrators have become police in monitoring both the teachers and the students in order for the school to remain in operation. • 9. Short Stories About Failure And Help, Perseverance, And Faith I am honored to be speaking here today. Eighth grade was a fun, but tough year. At the beginning of eighth grade I was excited and worried for the year to come. Now I think of this year and I think of how fast it went, the fun I had, and the troubles I had. I think of how I am going into high school. It s hard to believe. I am not here to talk to you about freaking out about high school. I want to tell you about eighth grade and what you will experience. I have three stories to tell you. Only three. Three stories about failure and help, perseverance, and faith. The first story is about failure. Failure is something I was afraid of, especially in math. I never wanted to fail. I wanted to try my best and do amazing on everything. Sadly, being perfect isn t how the world works. In math, at the end of the year, I was really worried about a unit we were doing. At first I thought I knew what I was doing. I had a good handle on the problems in class and on the homework. When it came to the first quiz, I failed it. When I saw the score on the computer screen I almost burst into tears. I was harder on myself than anyone was on me. I knew I tried my best, but I didn t feel like it. I had never failed before. The teacher came around the next day and asked if I needed any extra help. At first I was thinking, no. I do not need help. Later that night I changed my mind. I went to her class during my lunch and she answered my questions and helped me on some practice problems. • 10. Power In Dracula The Gothic world is fascinated by the struggle for power . In light of this statement, discuss the ways in which writers present types of power. Gothic writers are fascinated by power struggles, but often shock readers by reversing conventional power differences. Examples of this include the power of rationality against religion, and the female voice and sexuality being powerful, highly controversial topics during the Victorian era. These power struggles often reflect the writer s own experiences and views, for example Poe frequently presents power struggles between humans and the supernatural due to losing his loved ones, and mental illness. Similarly, in Dracula , Stoker portrays the supernatural as powerful, but with strong sexual undertones, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Carter uses sexual dominance in The Bloody Chamber as a metaphor for women s social inequality with He in his London tailoring; she, bare as a lamb chop . The separation of the pronoun she represents the isolation forced upon her by her overbearing husband. The girl is also mentioned after the Marquis in this sentence, showing how she ranks after him and has no control now that she s married. Women are often seen as passive as the Marquis assesses the girl with the eyes of a connoisseur , implying that she is an object to be owned and lusted after. Sivyer writes the man assumes an active and dominant role whilst his bride is positioned as passive . Her passivity is shown when she says He made me put on my choker , she was forced to do it and offered no resistance. The choker itself represents her captivity as it s similar to a collar, implying that the Marquis is her owner, also exemplified as he calls her my little nun . This condescension mocks the girl for her innocence, asserting the Marquis s dominance, but also the possessive pronoun my shows ownership; he believes that his wife belongs to him. Interestingly, Dracula uses similar possessive language to assert power over another male (Jonathan), exclaiming This man belongs to me! This declarative statement shows that he has decided that Jonathan is his property, showing his desire for dominance and possession to exhibit his power. His wickedness is ... • 11. Negative Portrayals Of Single Parented Parents Coming from a family with a single parent can become a problem within itself, but with only having one parent, the child is faced with being an outcast and classified as different than the rest of the children. When a parent comes from a bad past, society assumes the same for their children. For a child of these type of parents, it is hard to get out of this situation and defy the odds set on them by society. In television shows such as Weeds and Mom, there are many examples of these portrayals of the parents and their children. Negative portrayals in television shows of single parented families through comedic relief gives the children of these families a negative mindset, while being compared to these poor depictions in these shows. A child that has went through this traumatic experience will go through hard times, but will try to look at the positive sides of things that they come to challenge with. In his book, Psychological well being and quality of parenting among children of single parent family, Kiran Sahu stated that The psychological well being includes meaning in life, absence of somatic symptoms, self esteem, positive effect, daily activities, suicidal thoughts, personal control social support, absence of tension and general efficiency (531). The television show, Weeds, focuses on a single mother, Nancy Bloom, who has an early bad depiction in the show. After her husband, Judah, dies unexpectedly, Nancy has to take the center position in her family. After becoming faced with financial problems after her husband s death and dark past coming back to haunt the family, Nancy has to become a drug dealer for her neighborhood and family to survive. Nancy is having to deal with these financial struggles and taking care of her three children: Silas, Shane, and Steven. With having both of their parents in the negative spotlight of the community, these children have a hard time trying to reach success in their city. With the death of Judah and having their mom to rely on, each child acts in different ways. Silas, the oldest, was devastated when his father Judah died, and he took his emotions out on everyone and started depending on drugs to forget about it. • 12. Examples Of Plagiarism In Modern Times Modern Times, Plagiarize Crimes In 2006 Bob Dylan, a famous singer songwriter created an album called Modern Times. This album grew instant success becoming number one on the Billboard charts. Soon after its release, audiences found some things that were unsettling, which led to the start of allegations. Very similar comparisons were found between Dylan s album and Henry Timrod s poems like phrases that were copied verbatim. With these accusations Dylan and many others came to his defense, stating that this is merely just folk process but with no credit to the source, this simply is not excusable. His techniques in hiding this theft by changing the context and lack of acknowledgment to the original author is a sign of complete and utter disrespect. Seeing the supportive evidence and similarity between Bob Dylan s album and Henry Timrod s poetry, it is evident that this is more than just a coincidence and is clearly plagiarised. In this particular situation, the debate is not whether or not Bob Dylan used Timrods work or if Dylan even knows who Timrod is, instead the debate is over whether Dylan s use of Timrod s poems was plagiarism, folk process or an allusion to Henry. Dylan s interest in the Civil War mentioned in Chronicles:Vol. I(Rich), was definitely something that gave his source away. Since Henry Timrod was a poet that wrote about the Civil War, it it easy to see how Dylan might have stumbled across his work and heavily studied it due to his fascination with it. In Modern Times it is easy to see the resemblance to Timrod s poetry in most songs like When the Deal Goes Down , Spirit on the Waters and Workingman s Blue #2 . For example in the poem A Rhapsody of a Southern Winter Night multiple phrases like A round of precious hours , frailer than the flowers and wisdom that grows up in strife (qtd Timrod) are taken word for word and were put into Dylan s song When the Deal Goes Down . The singer decided to change the context of the wording in some parts but in others they had the exact same meaning. In Henry Timrod s poem he is comparing logic to flowers whereas Dylan compared the precious hours to the flowers. Chris Dineen, a fan says It seems kind of duplicitous. Even casual fans know ... Their laughter leads to jealousy in the other passengers as they think back to their own youths and the privileges they have lacked. Argument For Promotion Of Core Csr I am a Must/Must/Can and through this paper, I will argue my middle must against my opponent (Milton Friedman s) must not argument for promotion of core CSR. WE MUST PROMOTE CORE CSR vs WE MUST NOT PROMOTE CORE CSR Milton Friedman, in his work titled, The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase its Profits , emphasizes the role of business in society is to maximize shareholder wealth, and likens any activity misaligned with regard to that mission as stealing . In my argument against Milton Friedman s must not engage in core CSR stance, I would like to introduce the argument of expanding the responsibility of business to only maximize profit. Before I elaborate, please consider the following example: GlaxoSmithKline( henceforth referred to as GSK), the 6th largest pharmaceutical, publicly traded firm in the world, that in March 2016 stopped filing drug patents in low income countries such as Botswana, and partnered with NGO s to administer vaccinations and screen for conditions like malnutrition and HIV. In fact, one of GSK s medications administered through this program, saves about 0.5 M Botswanans per year from malaria. The argument promoting core CSR rests on an analysis of the Responsibility Gap , as described by Margolis J of Harvard Business School. The responsibility gap analyses the responsibilities that firms have beyond their financial obligations and fiduciary responsibilities. On the individual level, humans have limited capacity to ... Marcus Aurelius was an emperor and Cicero was a politician, so both serve somebody or something. In Cicero s On Friendship he bases his guides on what he has learned from important people in his life. In Marcus Aurelius Meditations he bases his guide off of what he has learned as an emperor with stoic views. Some of what he Aurelius has learned is different from Cicero s view of stoicism; an example of this is in section seven of Meditations. Section seven of Meditations is about what Aurelius learned from his tutor. He states, Endure hardship, and have few needs; to do things for myself and not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This point goes with what was previously stated, Cicero encourages doing things together and allowing a friend to help. He also encourages interference with a friend s hardships or needs. In section 73, Cicero answers the question, how much should we aid our friends? His answer is, We must give them only such aid as is within our powers; second, only as much as the man we love and wish to help can himself sustain (Cicero 77). Cicero definitely believes we should get involved with our friend s issues but to a certain extent. As long as we can handle the amount of aid given and they can sustain the amount given. Cicero does not believe friends should help with every little issue but he would say that they should help with the larger issues that we cannot handle ourselves. Cicero would also disagree with the point, turn a deaf ear to slander . Again, Cicero seems to be very confrontational. In Cicero s view, he talks about flattery as a kind of slander. He is definitely against the use of flattery, but he does not believe it should be ignored. He states in section 89, We may admonish, but we must not scold; we may reprimand, but we must not humiliate (Cicero 84). Cicero believes people who flatter should be confronted, whether it s by criticism or by reprimanding. He would say that they should know what they are doing wrong because flattery is one of the worst things a friend could do. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Also as the doors are not very heavy the children are capable of opening them themselves and leaving the room that they are in. If this is unnoticed by any of the staff the staff it puts the child in great danger if they leave the building or if they choose to hide in another area. Ways to resolve and minimise the risks of these hazards occurring again would be to replace the old doors with new fire doors which would be heavy enough so the children would be unable to open them. The doors would also have a thin strip of glass so the individuals can see inside before entering although they should knock and wait for response to. Today, people are praised for individuality and uniqueness, and banning books contradicts that. Many authors write about things that have happened in their lives or they express their way of living and banning a book that doesn t fit in with what societies way of life is, is wrong. It seems logical to think it would be better to look at the individual child and their case to determine what is best for them. In order to better understand why vaccinations should not be given the same for every child, it is important to know what is in them. The CDC reassures parents all over their website that vaccination is safe. Many physicians recommend vaccination for their patients, without hesitation. Vaccination is the thing to do . Going through medical school, physicians are taught the practice of vaccinating children. The CDC and the Food and Drug Administration both report they continue to do studies to ensure the safety of vaccinations. However, Dr. Mercola, a board certified osteopathic physician, points out that these groups have NEVER Brown 3 proven that it is safe to inject the number and volume of vaccines that we do in the United States (Mercola). Child vaccinations used to be filled with a toxin known as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. A Comparison Of Benzocaine And Benzoic Acid In this lab, extraction was use as method for separating a mixture of compounds. Specifically, Benzocaine and Benzoic Acid were individually isolated from a starting mixture which consisted of both components. A percent recovery was found for both. The percent recovery found for the benzocaine was 1%, while the percent recovery for benzoic acid was 35%. These low percentages are result of errors during the experiment. One source of error was during the separation of layers. When separating the two layers, some of the top aqueous layer flowed out with the bottom layer. This happened in all of the separation steps, and caused slight impunity in the compounds. This error could have been prevented by more concentration during this part of the experiment. ... • 38. Health Of The Humber River Watershed By Collecting And... Abstract This study was done to assess the health of the Humber River watershed by collecting and analyzing benthic macro invertebrates. It was predicted that most of the species collected would have high tolerances, and that the percentages of the benthic macro invertebrates would mostly fall in the impaired or potentially impaired categories. Transects were measured out along the stream, and the D net was held along the bottom to catch the invertebrates. Once 100 or more were caught, they were then counted and identified. The Hilsenhof Biotic Index was use to calculate the total tolerance of the organisms collected. The results showed that the distribution of species fell into the potentially impaired category, while the total tolerance was in the unimpaired range. This could be an indicator of a disturbance in the ecosystem that is affecting certain organisms more than others. The study was mostly consistent with the hypothesis. Introduction This study was done to determine the health of the Humber river watershed by testing the water quality. A watershed is a geographical area that drains precipitation and water sources into the same place. Watersheds are essential in supporting ecosystems around them and are vital to both plants and animals. The results of this study could be analyzed and used as an indicator of a healthy or an impaired ecosystem. There are four main reasons that this study was done. Firstly, the study was done to check the quality ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Becoming brothers and ultimately comrades. A sense of madness develops in Sal in the end. Dean is ultimately the role model for Sal but, we see that Sal thinks otherwise towards the end of the novel. Their travels bond them together in a way that ordinary friendships rarely do. Kerouac describes a Beat culture; in On the Road; friendship plays a role in this. Only when Sal is around ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only do Dean s motivations and passions seem to appeal to Sal, Dean shows off a sense of being young and a natural man . While it seems like nearly everyone else in the novel considers Dean to be irresponsible, Sal assumes that Dean s erratic behavior proves that he is on a whole different level of living. In the beginning of the novel, we learn that Dean was involved in sketchy ordeals. He was arrested for stealing cars in Denver. Instead of looking down on Dean for his actions, Sal instead believes his actions are just an attempt at searching for pure joy or raw happiness. While I viewed Dean s behavior otherwise from a negative perspective, Kerouac merely suggests that Dean s actions are only the result of his quest for happiness. In addition to this, Dean s behavior is portrayed sympathetically and is not responsible for what the world may see as irresponsible. Seeking out such behavior is the only way that Sal and Dean see it, to finding the true meaning of life, also known as, It . As Sal analyzes Dean as prominently a hero, we as the audience, notice that Dean is incredibly flawed. He often tends to abandon those who love him and feel absolutely no remorse whatsoever at his poor judgement. His untimely actions prove that he is nowhere close to a hero. In my opinion, a main part of the reason for why we seem to hate Dean is because we feel sorry for him. His obliviousness of being a mess, makes him even more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
