The site was divided into several facilities carrying out various activities to develop weapons and store
and dispose of nuclear waste. Within the first two years MEDACE had built a nuclear reactor,
underground waste storage tanks and a nuclear fabrication facility. All the facilities were in operation

The site was in operation for 44 years and was decommissioned in 1987 (Wald, 1998). During this
period, approximately 110,000 tons of nuclear fuel were processed at Hanford Site (Wald, 1998;

plutonium during the time of its operations (Gephart and Lundgren 1998). The production of nuclear
weapons and nuclear fuels generated huge quantities of highly radioactive waste which was stored in

underground storage tanks.
Most liquids from single shell tanks have been pumped to the newer double shelled tank over the
years, to remove the remaining 9000 cubic meter of drainable liquid (Hanlon 2003). Salt cake and
thick waste sludge was left behind in the tank. No double shell tank has leakages till date, even though
the design life of oldest ones has been reached (Hanlon 2003).
However majority of single shelled tank exhibited some kind of leakages ultimately contaminating the
site. The U.S Department of Energy (DOE) currently manages the site and is responsible for cleaning

Middlemarch, A Study of Provincial Life is a novel by English author George Eliot, first published in

Analysis Of Lucozade And Visiting Hour
Recently I studied two poems with the same theme, Lucozade By Jackie Kay and Visiting Hour By
Norman McCaig. Both poets talk about death and by using a word set they create a mental image of
what is happening and this reminds me of times were I had to visit loved ones and how emotional it
was. The poem Lucozade was written by Jackie Kay, it is about a girl visiting her mother in a hospital
before she passes away. The poem talks about death but does so in a humorous way, making jokes and
poking fun at a traditional gifts given at hospitals did you think you could cheer me up with a woman
s own? An item given to hospital patients. The mother believes they re making a big deal out this,
because she does not want to come to the realisation that he is dying. The daughter is scared her
mother is going to die. She clears the cupboard and waves her mother goodbye then walks home
singing and old song. The poem Visiting Hour was written by Norman McCaig, it is about a man
visiting his mother in hospital. This poem is a lot darker than the other and is not humorous, It uses a
strong death related word set to set a scene in the readers head. The man is fearful of what is
happening to his mother, He walks to her white cave of forgetfulness . He gets closer to her but never
passing the distance of pain. Distance shrinks until there is none left but the distance that neither she
nor I can cross, telling us in the end, we are all alone. The mother weak and exhausted smiles. On the
first line of Lucozade Jackie Kay tells us that the mother is not well and may be on medication by
saying high bed and sad Chrysanthemums . By using the word high bed we can presume the mother is
dying or on medication to stay alive, since high beds are found in hospitals and chrysanthemums are a
symbol of death and are given at funerals additionally the words die and sad are repeated throughout
the first stanza. We hear from the daughter that she is scared, Scared her mother will die, this shows
she cares for her. In the second stanza, the mother says she does not want Lucozade to be brought to
her. Lucozade is commonly brought to hospitals so her not wanting it tells us she doesn t not want to

Sci Fi Book Review A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine Lengle is an adventure packed story about a
high school girl named Meg Murry who is accompanied by her intellegant brother Charles Wallace
and friend Calvin O Keefe on a quest to find her father. At the beginning of the book, you are
introduced to Meg who is troubled by personal insecurities and her concern for her father. Meg is
always getting in trouble at school for talking back and giving attitude to her teachers, and her mom is

Madeleine s writting was always interesting. When you think one thing is going to happen, something

communication lines and use of file protection among others. Whitman (2011) points out that
computer system security ensures that your computer does what it is supposed to, even if the users do
what they should not do. Discretionary Access Control (DAC) is a type of access controls that
provides protection to the files in a computer system. This type of control restricts access to files
based on the identity of users or groups which they belong. It is discretionary and lets you tell the
computer system who can have access to your files and therefore you can specify the type of access
allowed. For example, you can allow anyone to read a particular file in the system, but allow only you
to be able to change it.
According to Whitman (2011), this type of control access is rarely used with high security systems
