Do Governmental CSR Policies Assist Consumers or...
Do Governmental CSR Policies Assist Consumers or Organizations Governmental CSR policies are
beneficial for consumers and organizations. Consumers are protected from abuse when organizations
adhere to policies set forth by the government. The government has passed laws and created
regulations as a guide for organizations to follow for the protection of the environment.
According to Masahudu (2004) several governmental CSR policies, such as the National
Environmental Protection Act, Clean Air Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Toxic Substances Control Act
and the Clean Water Act assist in protecting consumers and organizations . (p. 1). An example of a
policy which assists consumers and organizations is the Clean Water Act. The ... Show more content

Pros And Cons Of Human Biological Race
The question of whether human biological race exists has been a long debated, controversial topic
within the field of anthropology. There have been a number of obstacles that have prevented proper
research into this particular topic. For example, because of the potential social ramifications that seem
to accompany study into human biological variation, there has been hesitancy among researchers in
publishing material that could be interpreted as validation of racist ideologies. Besides social
considerations, another significant factor that has inhibited thorough research into the topic is
biotechnology, which has only recently become readily available and cost efficient. Lastly, the mere
definition of race itself has caused difficulties in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is not to say that genetic variation among populations is meaningless or insignificant, but it does
indicate that ideas surrounding biological race should be rethought as new information presents itself.
Because human variation cannot be neatly categorized into definite boundaries, the question then
becomes how should genetic difference be interpreted, if at all. In recent years, researchers have begun
to replace the word race with terms like clines or ecotypes. Unlike the term race, which implies strict
boundaries, clines is a character gradient that is continuous when looked at through scopes like
latitude or altitude (Pigliucci Kaplan, 2003). This definition is preferred as it attributes a fluidity to
genetic variation and can distribute individuals into a variety of clines depending on the genetic trait
being measured. In addition to clines, ecotypes have also begun to gain popularity in contemporary
human genetic research as well. Ecotypes can be defined simply as local populations adapted to
particular environments (Pigliucci Kaplan, 2003). The concept of ecotypes aligns more so with
traditional concepts of race, but with a few notable exceptions. First, ecotypes allow for far more
categorizations of human populations than the traditional concept of race does. Furthermore, ecotypes
take into consideration the genetic

Sadly, Benjamin Franklin died April 17, 1790 at the age of 83. He lost his life to pleurisy also known
as pleuritis. At the point when the agony and trouble of breathing completely left him, and his family
were complimenting themselves with the expectations of his recuperation, when an imposthume,
which had framed itself in his lungs, abruptly burst, and released an amount of issue, which he kept on
hurling while he had control; in any case, as that fizzled, the organs of breath turned out to be bit by
bit mistreated; a quiet, lazy state succeeded; and on the seventeenth moment (April 1790), around
eleven o clock during the evening, he discreetly lapsed, shutting a long and valuable existence of

Women s Destruction In Native American Myth
Myth a traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of people or explaining some
natural or social phenomenon, and typically involving supernatural beings or events. Motif a
distinctive feature or dominant idea in an artistic or literary composition. Destruction the action or
process of causing so much damage to something that it no longer exists or cannot be repaired.
Women since the beginning of time have been blamed and ridiculed for every single thing they do.
But it seems that nobody really has wondered why this is the way it is. Why is it that women are under
the microscope for everything? Looking back into the myths that explain our creation, women are the
main person to blame. Myths blame women for the destruction ... Show more content on

The most important duties for a city dwelling woman were to bear children preferably male and to run
the household. In the myth Pandora s box, Pandora was created as a punishment to the mankind. Zeus
wanted to punish people because Prometheus stole the fire to give it to mankind. Her gifts were
beautifully evil, according to Hesiod. Hephaestus created her from clay, shaping her perfectly,
Aphrodite gave her femininity and Athena taught her crafts. Hermes was ordered by Zeus to teach her
to be deceitful, stubborn and curious. Pandora was given a box or a jar, called pithos in Greek. Gods
told her that the box contained special gifts from them but she was not allowed to open the box ever.
Then Hermes took her to Epimetheus, brother of Prometheus, to be his wife. Prometheus had advised
Epimetheus not to accept anything from the Gods, but he saw Pandora and was astonished by her
beauty, thus he accepted her right away. Pandora was trying to tame her curiosity, but at the end, she
could not hold herself anymore; she opened the box and all the illnesses and hardships that gods had
hidden in the box started coming out. Pandora was scared because she saw all the evil spirits coming
out and tried to close the box as fast as possible, closing Hope inside. Due to Pandora s curiosity, she
not only let evil out into the word but closed hope inside of

Ackley or be sarcastic just so he stops bothering him. It s obvious that Holden swears, A lot! Most of
his phrases are Goddam bastard or crummy bastard . Stradlater is also a big issue with Holden; he s

Munitions Maker Research Paper
The Munitions Maker What did the archaeologists find at the excavation conducted in the cabin area?
Have you ever wondered what a blacksmith and munitions maker at a Sugar Plantation in the 1800s
was like? At the Levi Jordan Plantation, an excavation revealed a cabin that indicates a resident that
worked lead, manufactured lead shot, and possibly other metals. This cabin is now called the Smith s
Cabin . At the Plantation, western artifacts used in African cultural context have been found during the
excavation. Indications from these artifacts show that although these African and African Americans
were no longer in their original cultural context, they still maintained some of their African cultural
beliefs. The excavation of the Munition Makers cabin revealed information about the Munitions
Maker, the purpose of the cabin, and showed findings of animal remains. First, ... Show more content

The animal remains seem to show a varied diet, but it seems to rely heavily on small game. According
to http://www.webarchaeology.com/html/jorgthes.htm, In examining a 2% random sample of the
remains, a mixture of small wild game (58%), large wild game (4%), and some domestics (38%) were
determined to be present. The small wild game consists of rodents like squirrels, also rabbits/hares,
some birds, and fish like alligator gar and turtles. The large game consists mainly of deer. The
domestics consisted of pigs and cattle, although some of the pigs might have been feral (feral existing
in a natural state, as animals or plants; not domesticated or cultivated; wild). Oyster, rangia (a genus of
bivalve mollusks or clams in the family Mactridae), and chicken eggs have also been found in the
remains. Therefore, by seeing the percentages above, we can determine that the occupants didn t only

Introduction Of Fluency Instruction On Fluency
Introduction to Fluency Instruction Fluency is another key component of reading, because fluency has
often been referred to as the bridge between phonics (decoding) and comprehension. According to
Hudson, Lane and Pullen (2005) fluency is one of the defining characteristics of good readers, and
lack of fluency is a common characteristic of poor readers (Hudson, Lane Pullen, 2005, p. 702).
Fluency is made up three different components accuracy, rate and prosody. Rate refers to the speed or
pace at which a student reads. Students should be reading at just right pace not too fast or too slow.
This helps students free processing space for students to determine the meaning of a text. If student
spends the whole time reading struggling to decode the text, their brain does not have enough
processing space for comprehension. If students read too fast or too slow they are concentrating more
on the words than the actual meaning of the text. Accuracy is reading the passage with little to no
errors in text or meaning, this one reason why students must be able to decode words accurately.
Lastly, prosody refers to the student s ability to read with expression. Students must pay attention to
punctuation in a text and taking pauses, and influcation when appropriate (Hudson, Lane Pullen, 2005
Rasinski, 2004). According to Rasinski (2004) fluency is an important factor contributing to student s
reading success. Strategies for Teaching Reading Fluency

Essay on slyvia plath
Sylvia Plath s quot;Mirror, quot; shows a truly thoughtful look into the different sights and feelings a
mirror would have if it were a live conscious being, unable to lie. By showing the thoughts and
emotions that a mirror would emit, Plath makes you look inward towards how you present yourself
not only to your mirror but also to yourself. This is an eye opening poem because of its truthful
descriptions of the relationship between the inner feelings of people and how their outward
appearances that they portray of themselves affect them in and out of the public realm. Examples of
this are put throughout the poem quot;Mirror, quot; and can be found in just about every line of the
poem. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next section of the poem introduces a woman into the life of the mirror. She look toward the
mirror seeking to find what she truly wants to discover (beauty), and the mirror truthfully reflects back
to her what it sees. She turns from the reflection as if to look for the quot;truth quot; in something else,
not excepting what she has just seen. Unable to find it, the mirror sees her agitation and depression
after seeing her true self within it. She is always looking into the mirror to make sure everything is
perfect and to put everything in it s place, so to speak. In this the mirror, as the years seemingly pass,
sees the young girl transform from her youth into an old woman and lose all that she has fretted over
and over about throughout her life. Each day, she is reminded by the mirror of her lost youth and
beauty that was once projected back at her so faithfully.
The mirror in the poem is a representation of the truths in life that as a person is difficult to come to
terms with in one s self. The woman s view of herself and her reluctance to accept her natural and God
given beauty, shows how we all (as a society or as an individual) find it hard to accept ourselves for
who we truly are. How we try to make ourselves into a conformed object of quot;popular beauty quot;
based upon our outward appearance, instead of going by how our personal feelings that come from
within us.

The Little Mermaid By Brenda Chapman And Mark Andrews From...
In the movie Brave directed by Brenda Chapman and Mark Andrews from Pixar shared a similar
storyline as The Little Mermaid which was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker from Disney,
is that they both brought up the cultural and societal expectations on gender roles. Similarly, in
between the two movies Brave and The Little Mermaid, the director focussed on the feminine aspects
of how society perceives a women and expects females to fulfill their roles. Furthermore, the overall
message of both movies is that parents and children need to listen and try to understand each other
before the situation gets out of hand. Although, Princess Merida and Princess Ariel grew up with a
certain gender role expectations, however, they have prove society s perception of how feminine
should be perceived is wrong by showing how Ariel change for men or how Merida declare war for
independence.
In the movie Brave, Princess Merida (the daughter of the Scottish King Fergus) is very skilled in
archery; therefore, she want her talent to represent her individualism instead of as the Princess of
Scottish. Merida hates to live with the traditional image of a female role, whereas her mother (Queen
Elinor) wants her daughter to fulfill the feminine so that she can a suitor for herself. However, Merida
was not ready for marriage this early in the age. She felt suffocated with all of the female expectations
that her mother has set for her to follow. As a result, Merida went to seek help from a witch,

Australian And Indonesian Relations Essay
Introduction Australian Indonesian relations are the foreign relations between the two countries,
whether economically, politically, legally or socially. Australian Indonesian relations involve an
interaction in foreign policies between the two nations (Wolfsohn, 1951, p. 68). As long as Indonesia
is Australia s closest and largest neighbor, they are bound to have great international relations. These
relations began as early as the 17th century and had only become enhanced with time (Daly, 2003, p.
397). The relationship has been defined by a conjoint growth trade of up to $14 between the years
2011 2012 which reports an increase from the previous economic year (Mark, 2012, p.402). These
countries are members of various trade deals such as the ASEAN Regional Forum in addition to
having close ties with education, defense, and leadership. Australia s relationship with Indonesia is
crucial, and lack of such could severely bruise the economy, and hence they need to keep united by
ensuring the use of widespread media with beneficial input. Australia interacts with Indonesia in a
way such as sporting activity, tourism, education, economic policies, youth exchange programs,
cultures and above all their diplomacy (Okamoto, 2010, p.241). Internal Scene in Indonesia Indonesia
is the largest country in South East Asia and the third most populous in the world. Indonesia s

Thomas Paine Influence
Would the revolutionary war in the New World have developed without Thomas Paine? Political
activist Thomas Paine created the first influential piece of writing, Common Sense, about retrieving
American independence over Great Britain. Common Sense was a famous 50 page pamphlet
discussing the possibility of creating a democratic republican party, and advocating independence
from Great Britain. Thomas Paine had ideas of independence before he wrote Common Sense, but the
American Public and his comrades motivated him even more about the prospect of independence, and
influenced him to write the pamphlet. Thomas Paine, contributing as a major factor in the
development of the American Revolution, was persistent on enforcing his ideas, and even helped ...

He had already written papers about the injustices and cruelties the Americans had to face while being
overruled by Britain. Thomas Paine was the only American who had the audacity to write about
gaining independence from Britain. He was the one who believed in America and its citizens to
become a world superpower, and to grow into making their beloved country special. Written in his
essay Age of Reason, he said, I saw, or at least I thought I saw, a vast scene opening itself to the world
in the affairs of America; and it appeared to me, that unless the Americans changed the plan they were
then pursuing, with respect to the government of England, and declared themselves independent, they
would not only involve themselves in a multiplicity of new difficulties, but shut out the prospect that
was then offering itself to mankind through their means, (44). In this passage of The Age of Reason,
he stated his motive to write Common Sense. His motive to write Common Sense was for his patriots
and the country as a whole. Not to make his political status rise, but to help America progress as an
independent country. It wasn t about him and his career as an author, but about having colonial unity
amongst it s citizens, and fight together to make America advance. Not only was their motive from the
American public, but also from his fellow comrades, like Ben Franklin. They would frequently discuss
upon this matter of independence and other international news, and this would have a significant
influence into the writing of his persuasive essay. He spent hours daily discussing with his fellow
moderns. It is obvious that Paine incorporated the conversations and correspondence with his
compatriots into his essay. The long discussions that he had with Ben Franklin and his other friends
gave him good ideas and a good understanding of their current situation. These long discussions were

A Comparison Of Beyond The Love Story And West Side Story
Beyond the love story People are always rewriting other people s stories consciously or unconsciously
cutting and trimming, pasting, rearranging, and adjusting to new times and circumstances, sometimes

William Shakespeare s base source for his famous play Romeo and Juliet (Mabillard). West Side Story

For Colored Girls Movie Essay
For Colored Girls, directed by Tyler Perry is, in my opinion, a great drama that was released in 2010.
Perry gathered some of the most prominent Black actors and actresses to display scenarios that
women, particularly those of color, go through on a daily basis. There are multiple problems facing
these women and although they all live in a different world and face all different problems, somehow
they all are intertwined with one another.
Janet Jackson plays Joanna. Being a successful business woman is not always a good thing because
she appears to be a snob and someone who only cares for herself. On top of many people not liking
her, she faces problems with her estranged husband and ends up getting the HIV virus from him. Arika

Being that it is a drama, the viewer is supposed to be able to feel the emotion of the movie. Tyler Perry
did a phenomenal job of making that happen. Everything seemed so real. Rape, domestic violence,
and infidelity are just a few problems that the characters in the film had to go through. These are all
problems that many people can relate to. Seeing all the sad endings made me cry. Knowing that the
plot could be a reality for an actual person around me made the movie so much better. For example,
Nyla s young pregnancy, Joanna s husband s infidelity, Yasmine s rape, Crystal with the death of her
children, physical, mental abuse, and dealing with the fact that her husband struggled with PTSD are
all issues that real people deal with. This made the emotion of the movie come out so much more than
if Tyler Perry would have presented issues that are not so common. It makes you feel for the
characters in the movie. Also, the acting that the actresses and actors did made the emotion so much

Abnormal Psychology Labels
As humans we like to place labels on everything. In order to define, describe, or just to pin point
something out. The majority of us humans are guilty of using words such as normal , abnormal , crazy
, psychotic , and dysfunctional to describe people we see behaving in a certain manner. Behavior of an
individual usually tends to be the main source from which these labels derive. While placing these
labels on various behaviors we forget some factors, which are culture, values, and personal
perspective. As a society we are so quick to judge, especially the American society.
As part of the American society we tend to be very quick to place a label on behaviors. For example,
in my undergraduate career I took a course called abnormal Psychology . The first day of the course
the instructor made it very clear that there was no such thing as normal , and abnormal . ... Show more

previous instructor of mine said, or are challenging to label. Then the field of psychology would be
inexistent. A major part of the field is due to the mental disorders people have, which have already
been labeled. These disorders were labeled in order for clinicians, or professional to do three things:
place a label, find the structure of treatment, and treat the disorder. This system here is the whole focus
of the DSM in general. As for the course abnormal psychology that was taken during my undergrad
career, we touch bases on various brain disorders that were not normal for the average mentally stable
human. The terms abnormal , normal , health and dysfunction do exist due to the previous reasons

African American Athletes s Influence On Society
Over the past 50 years, the views on African American basketball players by society has dramatically
changed. As African Americans have gained rights, athletes have continued to influence society. Since
then, the influence these star players have had on society has become overwhelming. African
American basketball players have gone from being quarantined from the league, to becoming children
s icons. African Americans players were forced to create their own leagues and teams in order to play
professionally. As a result of this, the world famous Harlem Globetrotters were created. The
Globetrotters still have a lasting impact on society up to this date. During the 1950s, when African
Americans began to enter the NBA, white players feared they would be harmful to the league. In the
1970s, just after the ABA and NBA merger, the NBA nearly ended as a result of the lack of fan
interest. White fans disliked the black game and emerging black stars. In just a ten year period, the
views towards these dominant players completely changed, as players like Magic Johnson and
Michael Jordan completely revolutionized the game. These stars forced the public to watch the games,
and appreciate these players. In addition to transforming the league, the views towards African
Americans by the rest of society changed as well as a result of these players. Along the way on this
arduous journey, African Americans successfully transformed American culture and had an everlasting
impact on society.

Yagoda s Acceptance Of Aviation
Yagoda felt that Will contributed to the acceptance of aviation among the American people more than
anyone, except Charles Lindbergh, because of how he stressed the promotion of it. People all over the
United States read Will s daily and weekly columns, and he used every chance he could to write about
his experiences of flying. He felt that it was the way of the future, and he would even hire a pilot to fly
him to his shows. Even when there would be headlines of a plane crash, Will would write about the
safety of the planes, and then he would include the dangers of driving a car. Will even offered money
to towns that would paint their town name on top of buildings so that pilots would be able to know
what town they were at. He was once again

Great Del Close Influence On Improvisational Theatre
There are five simple rules to improv, follow these rules and more than just the art changes, your life
changes. Improvisational comedy has been around far longer than most people suspect, it can be
traced back to the days of Commedia Dell Arte. This style of theatre was popular throughout Europe
for almost 200 years starting in the mid 1500s. Performers would travel building makeshift stages and
create dialog and plot lines on the spot. Later, Keith Johnstone and Viola Spolin would re invent the
art into what we see today on shows such as Who s Line is it Anyway and Wild and Out .
Improvisational comedy is more than a tool to give people laughter, it also allows children to learn in
new ways and has helped shape society and should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Stuart Jeffries wrote an article entitled, The Science of Comedy: can humour make the world a better
place? In this article, he discusses how Thinking about comedy is becoming a big academic industry
and this is true, it is also important. The founder of the Centre for Comedy Studies Research, Dr.
Sharon Lockyer, studies how comedy can be socially beneficial. She says, The media fixates on
comedy controversies where comedy has been deemed to be problematic or offensive . Much of
comedy seems to be at the expense of someone else, but not all comedy has to be that way. Improv is
unique in that it does not poke fun at individual groups or people, not directly anyway, it pokes fun at
situations. Meaning, it often puts average people in unique situations and the fun is seeing how a

Observation Of Jupiter s Moons
Navigation has always played a key role in all aspects of human life. Although modern technology has
simplified travel and airplanes are used constantly, ships continue to be an important part of trade and
military systems today. This was especially the case around the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
Colonialism was built on navigation and whoever held the greatest naval power could gain the greatest
control. However, because of the difficulties that came from calculating location while at sea,
navigation became the greatest scientific challenge in the age of sailing. Being able to pinpoint
positions in the open sea was a necessity for nations at the time (and now) so that military and
commercial ships could be kept safe and on the right trajectory. Although latitude could be measured
successfully during the early eighteenth century, longitude still remained difficult to measure. With
wrecks continuing to occur, the British government, as well as other governments, was desperate to
find the solution to the longitude problem. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of these methods was suggested by the great mathematician and astronomer, Galileo Galilei. The
method stemmed from Galileo s discovery of the orbits of Jupiter s moons; he proposed that the
moons could be used as a way to track time. The problem with this method is that it required a person
on board to observe Jupiter s moons periodically, which was a difficult task due to the constant
movement that is experienced on board of a ship. Another method that was put forth was one that
relied on the position of the moon, similar to Galileo s method. Using this method, observers on a ship
would have to note the position of the moon relative to other objects in the sky. Charting the moon s
distance to other objects was not an easy task, making the method tedious and

Hamlet as Victim and Hero Essay
Hamlet as Victim and Hero
Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, a Shakespearean tragedy, tells the story of Prince Hamlet, who gained the
knowledge of a terrible incident that his kingdom had suffered. Claudius, the king of Denmark and
Hamlet s uncle, had killed his own brother, the king, who was also the father of Hamlet, and married
his brother s widow. Hamlet suffered these traumas to a severe degree, and his only relief was to
defeat his human weaknesses and correct the wrongs created by his uncle.
The soliloquy selected to describe the emotions of Hamlet, after discovering the evil doings of his
uncle, is found within the lines one hundred twenty nine to one hundred fifty nine (Hamlet Prince 71).

Hamlet s Mouse Trap commented that suicide means death of the mind in symbolic unproductivity
due to self destructive tendencies (91). Hamlet, with his rapid and witty thoughts, could not become
inactive in his mind.
Hamlet showed disgust during the lines one hundred thirty three through one hundred thirty seven in
which he questioned the purpose of the world (Hamlet Prince 71). He felt that the world s only
purpose was to raise weeds. Those weeds or the things that are rank and gross in nature, represented
the wicked people of the world that were in power. It is evident throughout these lines that he has
strong feelings of mistrust and hatred towards his uncle. It is undetermined if Hamlet ever thought that
his mother was also a murderess who helped devise the plan to kill the king. Hamlet s anger is
justified, as his trust was lost in almost everyone that was close to him.
Hamlet reconciles his mother s hasty actions after the death of his father in lines one hundred thirty
seven through one hundred fifty seven (Hamlet Prince 71). He begins with, But not two months dead!
Nay, not so much, not two, which clearly shows disgust in the hastiness of the marriage between his
mother and his uncle. His ideas and feelings jump around throughout this group of lines, which also
demonstrates a nervous anger. He remembers how excellent a king his father was and how loving [he
was] to [Hamlet s] mother (Hamlet

Glycolytic Pathway
Energy needed to function comes from the conversion of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to adenosine
diphosphate (ADP). To keep a continuous supply of ATP, ATP is resynthesized using one of the three
energy pathways. The three energy pathways are the phosphagen, anaerobic and aerobic systems.
The phosphagen system known as the ATP CP pathway, uses creatine phosphate (CP) to resynthesize
ATP. CP re bonds ADP to produce ATP after it is broken down. The ATP CP pathway is the quickest
way to resynthesize ATP and is the predominant energy system used for short term high intensity
activities. Two exercises that utilize the ATP CP pathway are weightlifting and sprinting.
The anaerobic system known as the glycolytic pathway, uses glucose to produce ATP. Glucose is
broken down into pyruvate through glycolysis to produce ATP. The amount of energy produced is very
little, but you get the energy quickly. The glycolytic pathway is the second fastest way to resynthesize
ATP and is the predominant energy system used for large bursts activities. Two exercises that utilize
the glycolytic pathway are powerlifting such as bench press and deadlift.
The aerobic system known as the oxidative pathway, uses oxygen to produce ATP and is the most
complex of the three energy systems. The oxidative pathway uses blood glucose, glycogen ... Show

Machiavelli s The Prince Is Call A Classic
Machiavelli The Prince is call a classic. In today s contemporary society I believe that some of
Machiavelli advice would be relevant. His first piece of advice was teaching us how having
knowledge in the military is an important quality that a prince can achieve. Second a person should be
a true friend and a true enemy. Thirdly Machiavelli says do not be generous with your money, you ll
just have to tax harder and you ll lose the support of your citizens. Fourthly in order for a prince to
keep his power he must avoid the hatred of his people. Lastly most of our traits that we learn come
from human nature and we should use these traits to the best of our ability. Machiavelli wrote a
manual on how to rule and govern during the Italian Renaissance. The Italian Renaissance has taken
place several years ago, in today s contemporary society the world is different now. Machiavelli
believed it was better to feared than love. Machiavelli never supported cruelty and violence although,
he did believe that sometimes being cruel and violent would be good for the republic. His social
advice is very useful in today s society. Machiavelli believed that you should stay true yourself and
always keep in mind that everybody isn t always going to do the right thing. Machiavelli states that
how one lives are so far distant from how one ought to live. (chapter1) In today s society we do have
some people who follow laws and do the right thing and on the other hand you have others who break

  • 3. Pros And Cons Of Human Biological Race The question of whether human biological race exists has been a long debated, controversial topic within the field of anthropology. There have been a number of obstacles that have prevented proper research into this particular topic. For example, because of the potential social ramifications that seem to accompany study into human biological variation, there has been hesitancy among researchers in publishing material that could be interpreted as validation of racist ideologies. Besides social considerations, another significant factor that has inhibited thorough research into the topic is biotechnology, which has only recently become readily available and cost efficient. Lastly, the mere definition of race itself has caused difficulties in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is not to say that genetic variation among populations is meaningless or insignificant, but it does indicate that ideas surrounding biological race should be rethought as new information presents itself. Because human variation cannot be neatly categorized into definite boundaries, the question then becomes how should genetic difference be interpreted, if at all. In recent years, researchers have begun to replace the word race with terms like clines or ecotypes. Unlike the term race, which implies strict boundaries, clines is a character gradient that is continuous when looked at through scopes like latitude or altitude (Pigliucci Kaplan, 2003). This definition is preferred as it attributes a fluidity to genetic variation and can distribute individuals into a variety of clines depending on the genetic trait being measured. In addition to clines, ecotypes have also begun to gain popularity in contemporary human genetic research as well. Ecotypes can be defined simply as local populations adapted to particular environments (Pigliucci Kaplan, 2003). The concept of ecotypes aligns more so with traditional concepts of race, but with a few notable exceptions. First, ecotypes allow for far more categorizations of human populations than the traditional concept of race does. Furthermore, ecotypes take into consideration the genetic ... Have you ever wondered what a blacksmith and munitions maker at a Sugar Plantation in the 1800s was like? At the Levi Jordan Plantation, an excavation revealed a cabin that indicates a resident that worked lead, manufactured lead shot, and possibly other metals. This cabin is now called the Smith s Cabin . At the Plantation, western artifacts used in African cultural context have been found during the excavation. • 10. Introduction Of Fluency Instruction On Fluency Introduction to Fluency Instruction Fluency is another key component of reading, because fluency has often been referred to as the bridge between phonics (decoding) and comprehension. According to Hudson, Lane and Pullen (2005) fluency is one of the defining characteristics of good readers, and lack of fluency is a common characteristic of poor readers (Hudson, Lane Pullen, 2005, p. 702). Fluency is made up three different components accuracy, rate and prosody. Rate refers to the speed or pace at which a student reads. Students should be reading at just right pace not too fast or too slow. This helps students free processing space for students to determine the meaning of a text. If student spends the whole time reading struggling to decode the text, their brain does not have enough processing space for comprehension. If students read too fast or too slow they are concentrating more on the words than the actual meaning of the text. Accuracy is reading the passage with little to no errors in text or meaning, this one reason why students must be able to decode words accurately. Lastly, prosody refers to the student s ability to read with expression. Students must pay attention to punctuation in a text and taking pauses, and influcation when appropriate (Hudson, Lane Pullen, 2005 Rasinski, 2004). According to Rasinski (2004) fluency is an important factor contributing to student s reading success. Strategies for Teaching Reading Fluency A strategy for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Essay on slyvia plath Sylvia Plath s quot;Mirror, quot; shows a truly thoughtful look into the different sights and feelings a mirror would have if it were a live conscious being, unable to lie. By showing the thoughts and emotions that a mirror would emit, Plath makes you look inward towards how you present yourself not only to your mirror but also to yourself. This is an eye opening poem because of its truthful descriptions of the relationship between the inner feelings of people and how their outward appearances that they portray of themselves affect them in and out of the public realm. Examples of this are put throughout the poem quot;Mirror, quot; and can be found in just about every line of the poem. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next section of the poem introduces a woman into the life of the mirror. She look toward the mirror seeking to find what she truly wants to discover (beauty), and the mirror truthfully reflects back to her what it sees. She turns from the reflection as if to look for the quot;truth quot; in something else, not excepting what she has just seen. Unable to find it, the mirror sees her agitation and depression after seeing her true self within it. She is always looking into the mirror to make sure everything is perfect and to put everything in it s place, so to speak. In this the mirror, as the years seemingly pass, sees the young girl transform from her youth into an old woman and lose all that she has fretted over and over about throughout her life. Each day, she is reminded by the mirror of her lost youth and beauty that was once projected back at her so faithfully. The mirror in the poem is a representation of the truths in life that as a person is difficult to come to terms with in one s self. The woman s view of herself and her reluctance to accept her natural and God given beauty, shows how we all (as a society or as an individual) find it hard to accept ourselves for who we truly are. How we try to make ourselves into a conformed object of quot;popular beauty quot; based upon our outward appearance, instead of going by how our personal feelings that come from within us. ... In the movie Brave directed by Brenda Chapman and Mark Andrews from Pixar shared a similar storyline as The Little Mermaid which was directed by Ron Clements and John Musker from Disney, is that they both brought up the cultural and societal expectations on gender roles. Similarly, in between the two movies Brave and The Little Mermaid, the director focussed on the feminine aspects of how society perceives a women and expects females to fulfill their roles. Furthermore, the overall message of both movies is that parents and children need to listen and try to understand each other before the situation gets out of hand. Written in his essay Age of Reason, he said, I saw, or at least I thought I saw, a vast scene opening itself to the world in the affairs of America; and it appeared to me, that unless the Americans changed the plan they were then pursuing, with respect to the government of England, and declared themselves independent, they would not only involve themselves in a multiplicity of new difficulties, but shut out the prospect that was then offering itself to mankind through their means, (44). In this passage of The Age of Reason, he stated his motive to write Common Sense. His motive to write Common Sense was for his patriots and the country as a whole. Not to make his political status rise, but to help America progress as an independent country. It wasn t about him and his career as an author, but about having colonial unity amongst it s citizens, and fight together to make America advance. Not only was their motive from the American public, but also from his fellow comrades, like Ben Franklin. They would frequently discuss upon this matter of independence and other international news, and this would have a significant influence into the writing of his persuasive essay.
