Language Reflection
There will be times were the kids were getting restless or acted uninterested in the class and Mrs.
Manner will call them by their names and tell them to pay attention, if the behavior was repeated she
will say something along the lines of ; Mr., this is the second time, I had to call your attention, and that
usually made them stop and listen. When communicating nonverbally, she will open her eyes wide to
show appreciation for answering in a correct manner or will narrow her eyes to tell children to control
themselves.
Afterwards, the children who stayed in the rug will trace the letter assigned and make a picture about
it with Mrs. Manner. Yet the children in the round table with me, will be read a story and I was
suppose to ask them questions about the story and sometimes we had to sing songs accordingly.
Subsequently, my group will later switch to the floor and I will repeat the same lesson to the kids who
were earlier in the rug. Sometimes the whole group will be overly excited and Mrs. Manner will say
Macaroni and Cheese to which the whole group will answer; Everybody Freeze. This usually
refocused the student s attention to the class. Some children will always participate and give accurate
answers, while other students try persistently to disrupt the class.
Moreover, some kids will raise their hands and then give you a personal account of their vacation or
something completely unrelated to the class. Mrs. Manner taught me how to refocus the attention by

The United States Should Go From The Metric System
The debate on whether or not the United States should go to the metric system has been ongoing for
years and still to this day the United States uses the English System of Measurements. It includes the
inch, foot, yard and mile, along with many other units of measurement. The United States is one of
three countries that still use other systems of measurement instead of going metric. The other two
countries that have not adopted to using the metric system are Liberia and Burma, also known as
Myanmar.
The metric system is simply a unit of measure. It is used in medicine, science and engineering. This
system makes it easier to make conversions by moving the decimal either to the left or right. It also
has stability by using prefixes and each unit has only one value, regardless of what is being measured
or who is measuring. There are fewer measures to learn in the metric system than in the English
Customary System. Instead of having to remember that there are 12 inches in a foot, 3 feet in a yard
and 1760 yards in a mile, it would be much easier to multiply or divide a number by a certain power
of 10.
It would be much easier for the United States to communicate to the rest of the world by switching to
the metric system. Everything that is important to the future of our country and economy, such as
industry, science business and exports, is already using the metric system. Units in the English system
of measurements such as the foot and gallon are all based on the

Got Milk Documentary Analysis
Although all of the advertising campaigns mentioned in the documentary have impacted me in some
way, I would have to say that the one that has impacted me the most would be the got milk campaign.
I thought it was interesting to hear the story of what inspired the slogan, mainly because of how such a
simple catchy phrase exploded and became one of the most used slogans around the world. In the
documentary it was shown that the main goal when selecting the slogan was simply to remind people
to continue buying milk. I am sure the campaign accomplished that goal and exceeded any
expectations they had. Personally the got milk campaign did not make me or my family purchase more
milk than before but I remember seeing got milk advertisements

Pathological Liar
According to the textbook, women are more likely to confront the conflict, and men are more likely to
withdraw or be defensive (412). A week before my birthday, my boyfriend and his friends went on a
vacation in Outer Banks, North Carolina. I was going to go on this trip, but I figured that it would be
nice for him to just spend time with his guy friends since they were all leaving for college in a month.
The day that the guys all came from this vacation, my boyfriend s one friend was going around and
telling everyone that the boys went to a strip club three times while they were down there. Now, this
friend is known to be a pathological liar and I knew that his claim was probably not true, but I still
wanted to know the real answer. So that

Japanese-Americans Racism-Discrimination
Each day we live, taking for granted everything we have. Freedom to choose where to live, eat, work,
and go to school. What would happen if all of that was taken away? And not just by another country,
but by our own people. Our own government took our rights and belongings away overnight. What
would people do? On February 19 of 1942, the president of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt,
signed an evacuation order, ordering the evacuation of all persons deemed a threat to national security
from the West Coast to relocation centers further inland ( ). Meaning anyone who looked like they
were of japanese descent, was considered a threat to the security of the United States. The racism
towards the japanese people was in the way they were looked at, how they lived in the camps, and
how they were treated. On December 7, 1941 there was a tragic attack on an American military base
in Hawaii, called Pearl Harbor. It was led by the japanese empire. This is what started it all, with the
racism of the different ethnic groups towards to japanese people. Each time fellow Americans saw
someone of japanese descent, it brought up memories of this day in history. The emotions it stirred up
the pain and loss, created anger and hatred towards each of these people. The people of America were
scared. The president decided to send the people of his own country away. Some say it was for their
own protection, but others say it was just because we were afraid of the Japanese American people

The Influence of Buddhism In Chinese Martial Arts Since first introduced During the Han Dynasty,
Buddhism has played a major role in Chinese art and culture. This is especially true in the traditions
that surround the art of Shaolin Kung Fu, and their strong belief in Chan (Zen) Buddhism. Kung Fu
was Influenced by the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama and focuses heavily on the belief that
enlightenment is attained through meditation. In this essay, Buddhism s influence on Shaolin Kung Fu
will be discussed, from how it started to how it thrives today in modern china. Michael Kampan O

The tong qi gong became the foundation on which Shaolin kung fu was built. Eventually the kung fu
was used as a form of fighting and the temple became known for its warrior monks. In 574AD
Emperor Wudi banned Buddhism, the Shaolin was destroyed (Sara Naumann). During the Northern
Zhou Dynasty Buddhism was revived and The Shaolin rebuilt. It says in Art Beyond The West by
Michael Kampan O Reilly that during the fourth and fifth centuries Buddhism became wide spread for
the first time in China (126). The Tang Dynasty is when the Shaolin flourished. Thirteen warrior
monks rescued the Emperors son Li Shimin from an army that was trying to take over the Tang. Once
Emperor, Li Shimin named the Shaolin the Supreme Temple in all China. Shoulin kung fu developed
and advanced over the next few hundred years known as Shaolins Golden Era (Sara Naumann). Qing
ruler burnt the Shaolin temple down, destroying there sacred texts.the Shaolin temple was rebuilt and
destroyed over and over in the following centuries. At the brink of extinction, a few surviving monks
continued to practice kung fu behind closed doors. ant the end of the Qing Dynasty a few Shaolin
monks went to Shingou Si, where they worked to preserve kung fu. Among these monks were Zhan

The s Message Of Race And Identity By Mark Twain Essay
Though scholars have primarily focused study of Pudd nhead Wilson on the novel s messages of race
and identity, Mark Twain wrote into it an examination of scientific values versus natural values. Much
of the book concerns itself with the title character s methods of detection, and in the character of Pudd
nhead Wilson the reader finds a strong critique of scientific positivism. In the employment of natural
scenery for certain human action, man s misuse of nature is criticized. Likewise, the conclusion of the
novel also focuses on social manipulation of natural processes, with a pessimistic conclusion. Pudd
nhead Wilson rejects the interference of social construction and scientific interpretation in man s
experience with nature.
Pudd nhead Wilson is the symbol of science in all its shortcomings and excesses. The narrator s
attitude toward Wilson is not truculent, but it does highlight the aspects of this protanganist that are
highly unflattering. The reader knows Wilson to possess Scotch patience and pluck (27), and he is able
to solve the murder of York Driscoll. Yet, his scientific experiments are often of dubious value and his
detective skill is impaired by a remakable blindness (Porter 163) to Tom and Roxana s scheme. He is
first introduced as a bit of a dilletante: He had a rich abundance of idle time, but it never hung heavy
on his hands, for he interested himself in every new thing that was born into the universe of ideas (27).

Analysis Of The Movie The Cheeks Were Red
Long before Woody Allen s jasmine was blue, his cheeks were red over an allegation about a midnight
not in Paris, but in his attic. He was called an irrational man within the halls of his own home in
Manhattan, putting Allen in a new kind of spotlight. After ending his twelve year relationship with
Mia Farrow, accusations arose claiming that Mr. Allen had molested the couples adopted daughter
Dylan when she was seven. However, despite the precarious circumstances in which the allegations
arose, both sides continue to maintain their respective arguments. Mr. Allen objects to said
accusations, claiming he is innocent. Mia, on the opposing side, is in defense of Dylan (now thirty)
who did not speak on the issue publicly until February of 2014 ... Show more content on

Even though the accusation were ludicrous in nature Mia pushed and charges were being sought for
Woody Allen. A progression of police investigations followed, in which the Connecticut Police
enlisted the help of the Child Sexual Abuse Clinic of the Yale New Haven Hospital. After evaluating
all parties involved they summed up their conclusions by making a public statement that follows thus;
It is our expert opinion that Dylan was not sexually abused by Mr. Allen. Further, we believe that
Dylan s statements on videotape and her statements to us during our evaluation do not refer to actual
events that occurred to her on August 4th, 1992 (Allen). Due to these finding Mr. Allen was not
charged with any crimes, but found the judge irresponsible for his verdict of we will probably never
know what occurred (Allen). As a result of the scandal, Mr. Allen lost custody of his children. Twenty
years after the accusations, Dylan Farrow makes her first public comment on the incident in an open
letter published in The New York Times. In the letter she states her firm belief that Mr. Allen is guilty,
in addition she shames many celebrities by name for continuing to work with Woody Allen. In
response to this letter; Woody Allen published his own open letter in The New York Times. He

The Movie The Rain Maker s Bad Faith Suite Against...
There is a scene in the legal thriller, The Rain Maker where the young newly minted lawyer Rudy
Bailor (Matt Damon) is squared off in the judge s chambers with big time corporate lawyer Leo F.
Drummond (Jon Voight) and a cranky coughing judge Harvey Hale (Dean Stockwell) to discuss the
pre trial merits of Rudy s Bad Faith suite against health insurance giant Great Benefit. The coughing
grouchy judge (who later dies of a heart attack) sneers across his desk at the young Rudy Bailor and
wheezes: This lawsuit bothers me Mr. Bailor! I wouldn t use the word frivolous, but...I m not
impressed with the merits of it to be frank. In fact, (cough) I m really TIRED of these kinds of
lawsuits. I m inclined to grant the motion to dismiss. Now...you can re file it in Federal court, you
know...take it somewhere else (cough), I don t want it clogging up my docket!!!
This scene has always impressed upon me the reluctance and recalcitrance of well established judges
refusing to not only embrace difficult cases to the fullest of their ability and potential, but who also
willfully and knowingly avoid cases that stand to challenge established legal precedent, or stare
decisis, in the pursuit of justice.
With this point in mind, in evaluating many of the legal cases we have reviewed throughout our
course, the one aspect of law that particularly intrigues me, and is most glaring with respect to the
cause of justice, is what appears to be many instances of the courts finding ways to avoid or

Gangster films are developed around the sinister actions of criminals or gangsters, particularly bank
robbers, underworld figures, or ruthless hoodlums who operate outside the law, stealing and violently
murdering their way through life. In some instances for example, the movie Scarface, they have that
one person that runs everything that ranges from drug operations to giving out orders to murder

The film is modified from the 1986 book, Wiseguys that traces Henry s rise and fall in New York s
mob scene. Henry evolves into the mobster life quickly and feels like he s on top of the world. After
all, he gets married, starts a family, and becomes quite successful in his chosen line of work. With
factors such as organized crimes, tensions rise, amongst other things gets Henry further involved in
the drug trade. Henry temperament changes and he comes edgy, frantic, and unpredictable. Henry
becomes overwhelmed and realizes his erratic behavior has made him a target with some associates.
Henry then enters a Witness Protection Program, freeing himself of the crime family he always
wanted to be a part of and also taking part of capturing ones who he referred to as family. Goodfellas
exposed both the luxury and the harsh reality of being in the gangster lifestyle. Director Martin
Scorsese didn t want to follow a traditional narrative structure but instead present it episode by
episode. He wanted to start in the middle and move backwards and forwards to depict Henry s
conflicted lifestyle of being part of the mob. Scorsese used elements such as lighting, freeze frames,
long tracking shots, jump cuts, color, and materialistic elements to sweep the audience away and carry
them along the ride of Henry s life. He created his own frenetic style in order to overwhelm the

The First Fundamental Theorem Of Welfare Economics
Introduction When studying market structure, the First Fundamental Theorem of Welfare Economics
states that markets will distribute resources efficiently if the following conditions are met: the market
is perfectly competitive, there are no externalities or public goods, markets are complete, and there is
no asymmetric information (Gruber, 2013). If a healthcare market complied with these four pillars of
the First Welfare Theorem, a healthcare provider s choice of output would not affect the price of the
service, ultimately leading to Pareto efficiency. As seen in Figure 1, the consumer demand curve
would be horizontal, as average revenue, marginal revenue, and price would be the same, constant
value.
Figure 1: Perfect Competition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the provider produces one extra unit of a good or service, the overall price decreases. The provider
receives a lower price for infra marginal goods, or the goods that would have been sold without
reducing the price (Png, 2012). For example, if a healthcare provider chooses to increase production
from 100 units to 200 units, the price must be reduced from $50 to $40. The provider will gain
revenue (100 x $40= $4,000) from the additional units, but will lose ($50 $40) x 100= $1,000) the 100
infra marginal units that the provider could have sold at the higher price. So, average revenue for the
provider will be $40, while marginal revenue will be $30. Thus, average revenue and price remain
equal, while marginal revenue now falls below the price curve (Png, 2012).
Figure 2: Marginal Revenue Curve vs. Average Revenue Curve in a Monopoly In order to determine
price, the monopolist utilizes the inverse demand curve, also known as the average revenue curve.
This curve reflects the price the provider would need to charge to produce demand at a particular
level. Thus, the average revenue curve dictates what price the next unit can be sold at, while the
marginal revenue curve reflects how much additional revenue is received for selling the next unit
(Schwartz, 2010). As can be seen in Figure 3, since marginal revenue does not equal average revenue,
the monopolist will set the quantity supplied where marginal revenue is equal to marginal cost.
However, it will

that eventually filed bankruptcy. Lévi Strauss was not the only person in his family that was well
known for his inspirations to society. He was also the great grandson of a music conductor who
worked with Duke Louis Philippe and Napoleon III. He studied law at the University of Paris, then, he
taught philosophy to high schoolers for two years in two different places. One in Lycée Victor Duray

No Denial Of Medical Care
4. No Denial of Medical Care In order to state a constitutional claim under the Eighth Amendment for
lack of proper medical care, a prisoner must meet a three fold test. First, the actions or inactions of
prison authorities must correspond to a deliberate indifference standard. Estelle v. Gamble, 429 U.S.
97 (1976). Secondly, that deliberate indifference must be directed to [a] serious medical need [ ] . Id.
In order to state an Eight Amendment claim for denial of medical care, a plaintiff must demonstrate
that the actions of the defendants or their failure to act amounted to deliberate indifference to a serious
medical need. Id. at 106. Additionally, there must be some personal involvement on the part of prison
officials. West v. Atkins, 815 F.2d 993 (4th Cir. 1987), rev d. on other grounds, 487 U.S. 42, 106 S.Ct.
2250 (1988). Deliberate indifference to a serious medical need requires proof that, objectively, the
prisoner plaintiff was suffering from a serious medical need and that, subjectively, the prison staff
were aware of the need for medical attention but failed to either provide it or ensure the needed care
was available. Blackwell v. Webb, et al., Civil Action No. RDB 13 1947, at 10. In Miltier v. Beorn,

Overview of Labor Relations
LABOR RELATIONS 2
Labor Relations
Introduction
Labor relations are concerned with the learning and management practices of unionized situations of
employment. However, in the circles of academia, labor relations get classified as a subarea of
industrial relations, even though researchers from numerous disciplines also study labor movements
and labor unions. Nevertheless, in practice, labor relations get classified as a subarea in the
management of human resource. Therefore, the courses in labor relations characteristically look into
the history of labor, labor regulation, and organization of union, bargaining, administration of contract,
as well as, any contemporary topics that are significant. In the U.S., the labor relations of the private
sector get regulated through the Act of the National Labor Relations. On the other hand, the labor
relations of the public sector gets regulated through the Act of the Civil Service Reform that was
introduced in the year 1978, along with the appliance of a series of state pieces of legislation (Fossum,
2012). A look into other countries, the labor relations, could be standardized through tradition or law.
The association of Labor and Employment Relations is a significant professional organization for the
labor relations intellectuals, as well as, practitioners in the U.S. The employment, economy, as well as,
management of rights are some of the topics for thought when the discussion involves the manner in
which labor unions bring

Analysis Of Gwynne Dyer Anybody s Son Will Do
There are a number of tasks and basic provisions which are very important for the whole nation. One

nation. Security and freedom are the key basic necessities of the nation, and for the survival of a
nation there are a number of tasks which are done by the army / forces of the country. This also
includes a variety of tasks which are considered as disgusting by ordinary people. In Gwynne Dyer

The main focusing point of army to produce the best soldiers is their training. The selection of soldiers
in their teen age years is the best policy for almost all the countries. Through these teens cognitive
development it is very easy to train them according to army s agenda or we can say that their mind can
be easily washed as according to U.S Marin Drill Instructor I guess you could say we brainwash them
a little bit . (Pg. 2)
Armies could also train the older but old age people could be trained physical and it is very difficult or
it could be said that it is impossible to train them mentally or forced them to change their likes and
dislikes according to the army goals and agenda. That is the major reason of choosing the soldiers less

suitable to put them on the main track of army. As according to British Army Recruiting

Elizabethan Poetry
Elizabethan Poetry I
Drama dominates our syllabus but the Renaissance was a Golden Age not just for English drama, but
also for English poetry. But what was English poetry?
George Puttenham s The Arte of English Poesie (1589) and Sir Philip Sidney s The Defense of Poesie
(1595): early attempts to think about English poetry as a distinct national tradition. Puttenham and
Sidney were concerned to build a canon and help shape English poetry into a tradition capable of
rivalling more prestigious literatures (for example of Italy and France).
The courtly lyric/ Petrarchan love sonnet introduced to English by Sir Thomas Wyatt and Henry
Howard, Earl of Surrey: not the only poetic genre in the Renaissance, but one of the most interesting,
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
How do we understand the pain and frustration expressed in this poetry? How can we make sense of
this form and its popularity? Three points/suggestions:
1. Renaissance writers and critics generally did not value poetry in terms of its genuineness or
sincerity. The idea that poetry should be genuine or sincere is a much more recent conception, which
goes back to the Romantic period.
2. Writing Petrarchan poetry was part of a cultural performance, a way of demonstrating wit, grace
and mastery i.e. sprezzatura . Consider the extreme competitiveness of the Elizabethan courtly milieu.
3. Petrarchan conventions also function as a code for other, non erotic problems and experiences.
Wyatt, Surrey and Sidney belonged to England s most illustrious families and were all extremely
proud and ambitious men, but they didn t always get the treatment they thought they deserved. The
use of Petrarchan conventions to vent frustrated ambition became especially widespread after 1558,
when there was a woman on the throne.
Finally a few words about Sir Philip Sidney (1554 86), the Elizabethan courtier, diplomat, politician,
soldier, scholar, lover, patron and poet (QEI: the most accomplished gentleman in Europe ). Dying at
32 in the Netherlands fighting for Elizabeth s army in the war against Catholic Spain, Sidney was
turned into a quasi mythical figure, supposedly embodying all truly English gentlemanly virtues.

Visual Anthropology And Cultural Anthropology
Society is made up of ordinary items that throughout the years are given value by outsiders, people
who think outside of the world they are in, or by those, who are, from a different time period.
Anthropologists have been able to study the differences in human cultures and how they have evolve.
There are now four major fields of anthropology: biological anthropology, cultural anthropology,
linguistic anthropology, and archaeology (Dennis O Neil). Within these fields are subfields, visual
anthropology is a very important subfield of cultural anthropology. Visual anthropology is the study of
the history of human customs and culture through what one sees or perceives in various types of
media. Therefore, ...the use of visual material in anthropological research...is the study of visual
systems and visible cultures (Banks and Morphy). Since media is seen as a representation of the truth,
it is reasonable to say that it plays a major role in the accurate views of how society is. There are two
categories in which I would like to describe how visual anthropology tries to describe human culture
and custom: images and objects. Through visual anthropology, images, ads, and cartoons are
constantly changing individual s views and the world in which they live in. Images are not merely
pictures to state the obvious, they are pictures that have a deeper meaning. Whether the meaning is
shown or not shown, they convey representation of something more meaningful in the end. Stuart Hall

Compare And Contrast Keats And John Keats
Percy Bysshe Shelley and John Keats were both unconventional men during their era. They were both
part of the romantics, poets who sought nature as a way of expressing their most bare and intimate
feelings. Their greatest aspiration was to resemble great poets like Wordsworth and Coleridge, who
they admired profoundly. However, Keats and Shelley were completely different both in their outlook
of life and even in the way that they expressed their feelings. John Keats was a poet who followed his
passion for poetry and left his medical career to become a poet. He was a passive man who believed in
the beauty of nature and held a respect and fear for it as well. Shelley was a man beyond his years, he
was an adventurous man who held a deep love for nature and uniqueness, as we can see in many of his
sonnets and poems. Both believed greatly that the power of art held and radiated once it was

Evangelical Christianity In America
The writer of the book of Ecclesiastes is correct, What has been will be again, what has been done will
be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. (Eccl 1:9). It is especially true in America. Racial
and ethnic divisions appear to be just as wide as they were during era of slavery, Reconstruction, and
Jim Crow. Within the past century, Christianity in America, particularly Evangelical Christianity has
endeavored to address social issues like racism but unfortunately has been relatively unsuccessful.
Evangelicalism, particularly white evangelicalism must expand their understanding of cultural
engagement to include more than abortion and homosexuality. To be relevant, and maintain any
semblance of integrity, evangelicalism must apply different strategies regarding racism, classism,
justice, and equality. As an African American evangelical preacher, I believe that Scripture had more
to say about liberation other than the famous words in Exodus, Let my people go! The question is how
is an evangelical who is committed to the sufficiency of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Understanding The Underdog Archetype
The year was 2000 and the Patriots, a team that was 5 11, seemed hopeless in 2001, Their Quarterback
was out and it was looking like another losing season was coming. A scrub came off the bench, a
nobody, a dude that looked weaker then my grandpa. He stepped on the field after a heartbreaking
injury. Then this scrub started doing pretty good, then really good and even leading his team to the
playoffs with a 11 5 record. He somehow made it to the to the Super bowl against one of the greatest
teams and quarterbacks ever. They only lost one game that season. But somehow, some way, they won
by one man. A man who had 198 people picked over him. A backup to a sub par backup. He just won
the super bowl, Tom Brady won the super bowl, and now is one of the greats. At this point in his
career he is the definition of an underdog. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Different Types Of Cell Cycle
Chapter five primarily covers information about cells, cell division, and the different types of cell
cycles. The cell cycle is a sequence of events that makeup the life of a typical eukaryotic cell, from the
moment of its origin, to the time it divides to produce two daughter cells. Interphase starts off the cell
cycle and it is the longest stage in the cell cycle. Most cells spend 90% or more of their life span in
interphase. Interphase is divided into three main phases G0, G1, S, and G2 phases. This portion of the
cell cycle takes in nutrients; manufactures proteins and other substances, expands in size, and
conducts special functions which depend on the cell type. The G1 phase is the first phase in the life of
a newborn cell, and is known as the gap 1 phase. The S phase is the phase that follows the G1 phase.
In this phase, cells that are destined to divide, preparations for cell division begin during the S phase.
The s in this phase stands for synthesis . This phase is responsible for replication of the cell s DNA,
and this is one of the most important responsibilities performed in this phase. G2 phase occurs after
the S phase but before the start of cell division. The G2 phase is known as the gap 2 phase. The G1
phase, S phase, and G2 phase, each make up the parts of interphase. Cell division is the last stage in
the life of an individual cell. As cell division begins, the cell contains twice the amount of DNA
because of DNA replication in the S phase. The G0

to help me at the door. Everything was smooth until they were actually texting and not saying
anything to the customers as soon as they came in. A regular customer came in and immediately saw
them on their phone, not engaging in emotional labor, but rather their private emotions of actually not

myself, but he was literally engaging in the nonperson treatment, which means treating others as if

The World Is Too Much With Us Annotation
For this discussion, I would like to look at The World Is Too Much with Us by William Wordsworth. I
think that this poem fits the Italian sonnet category. To support this claim, the first 8 lines (octave)
present a problem. Also, the first 8 lines follow the abbaabba form. The first line ends with the word
soon (a), the second line ends with the word powers (b), the third line ends with the word ours (b), and
the fourth line ends with the word boon (a). This same scheme continues throughout the next 5 lines as
well. Because of this rhyming scheme, I believe it is an Italian Sonnet. One thing I really liked about
this poem was the title. I read it and thought that it sounded funny because I would think that it would

Ralph Waldo Emerson s Divinity School Address
Throughout Ralph Waldo Emerson s Divinity School Address, he has composed an essay that speaks
of his unique perception of the natural world, but promptly diverts to discussing his take on the
religious status of the world. Many of his essays, including this one, have continually addressed
controversial topics and discussions amongst society throughout time. Divinity School Address is an
essay that many Christians have discussed, using its comparing Emerson s contradictory and harsh

A statement he makes in his address is, Absolute badness is absolute death which can be perceived as
if a person is doing bad or evil things he is going to go down a path of death, doom, and despair
(Emerson 105). Which is true in the case of an unsaved person, but for a Christian if they happen to
succumb and fall into evil temptations, God will forgive them so they can keep going on the path of
goodness and mercy. But on the flip side of the spectrum when compared to his previous statement, he
also says that Benevolence is absolute and real which can be taken as a person is completely filled
with righteousness, honesty, and respect (Emerson 105). These two statements that he has made,
makes it seem like his perception is that a person can either be evil or good, and that there is no in
between in his mindset. But these statements contradict another claim that he had made, which I used
as an example earlier. He said that Evil is merely primitive, not absolute which most certainly
contradicts with his statement that Absolute badness, is absolute death (Emerson 105). His view of this
is that evil and badness is two different things, but in a Christian s view the latter is just a synonym of
the former, and vice versa. For a Christian, they are still in their evil and worldly mindset that will not

The Search for Truth in Anton Chekhov s The Cherry...
The scholar is engaged in the interminable quest for truth. The knowledge that one can never
understand everything makes a person wise. Ignorance is the assumption that one can understand all
about the world around them. An ignorant person is so confident they comprehend the truth, that they
are blind to the greater truth. Anton Chekhov and Sophocles deal with the idea of this sinful pride that
leads to ignorance in their respective works, The Cherry Orchard and Oedipus Rex. In each drama,
certain characters are slapped in the face with the truth; the light is revealed. However, these
characters make the connection when it is too late. Their destruction is already destined to become a
reality, a horrid fate that could have been prevented. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The timing of the chorus plea as Oedipus enters the stage clearly demonstrates that Oedipus is the man
whom he seeks, the murderer of the king. The truth of the play is revealed, yet Oedipus remains
ignorant.
Chekhov also makes use of a symbol to represent truth in his play. In The Cherry Orchard, the
Ranevskayas are an aristocratic family that squander away their final days at their beloved cherry
orchard. It shall soon be auctioned off, yet the family merely sits about and engages in meaningless
chatter. They assume that everything shall be taken care of, the way it always has been in their lives.
However, there is one man who seems to be above the careless atmosphere that surrounds him
Lopakhin, the hard working son of generations of peasants. This man of great ambition represents
truth. The truth that Chekhov reveals in the play is the emerging changes in the Russian social
structure. The industrious middle class is on the rise, and the lazy aristocracy is doomed to fade away.
In the end, Lopakhin buys the cherry orchard, which is the estate where [his] father and grandfather
were slaves (Chekhov 366). The cherry orchard was the security, the wealth, and the power of the
aristocracy; it is bought by a merchant, the son of peasants. Could the aristocracy not see what was
happening, or did they choose to remain ignorant? By constructing summer cottages, the Ranevskaya
family could have prevented the loss of the beloved

Operant Conditioning Punishment
Classical conditioning can be explained through humans best kept secret; urinating in the shower.
Though many deny, the sound of running water typically elicits the natural response to urinate. After
awhile, it is common to become conditioned to associate a shower (without the water on) with the
urge to urinate. Thus, classical conditioning is a learned association between a stimulus (any sight,
smell, sound, taste, or touch (like the sound of running water)), and a neutral stimulus (like the
shower) that triggers the same response (the urge to urinate). Even before Ivan Pavlov began
experimenting with dogs, their normal physiological response was to salivate when they saw food. An
unconditioned stimulus is something that occurs naturally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reinforcement and punishment are the two main types of consequences and there are positives and
negatives to both. A relevant real world example is CSUSM s goal of having high ranking students.
Reinforcement tries to increase the tendency that the goal behavior, high ranking students, will occur
again. In a positive reinforcement something is being added. In this scenario, students who follow the
rules and maintain a high GPA will be rewarded with scholarships. In a negative reinforcement
something is being taken away to increase the tendency that the goal behavior will occur again. Until
professors are confident that students are engaged in the material, they will continue to randomly call
on students to answer questions. The act of participating takes away the anticipation of being called
out, and would enforce the goal behavior of good grades. On the other hand, punishment will decrease
a tendency that a behavior will occur again. CSUSM is going to punish failing grades. A positive
punishment means something is being added. If students do not attend class or do not do the
assignments a failing grade will be added to their transcripts. In a negative punishment something is
being taken away. If students do not maintain their GPA their grants, scholarships, and even their
admittance can be

RDF(refuse derived fuel)
Abstract
If we focused on solid waste management (SWM) the waste produced was collected and dump in
dump yard which causes many environmental pollutions and health hazards. In solid waste

Chapter 1 Introduction and overview of auditing
1. What does assurance mean in the financial reporting context? Who are the three parties relevant to
an assurance engagement?
An assurance engagement (or service) is defined as an engagement in which an assurance practitioner
expresses a conclusion designed to enhance the degree of confidence of the intended users other than

Finally, the auditors will benefit from additional revenue which can be used to subsidise the audit firm
s investments in knowledge and systems, and streamline the audit.
The main disadvantages of audit firms providing services to their audit clients relate to potential
adverse effects on the auditor s independence. The auditor could be unwilling to provide services
which would reduce their audit fees or cause the client to seek another auditor. The auditor could be
unwilling to criticise something to the client which was provided by their consulting division. The
auditor could be blind to potential adverse impacts on the client s accounting systems from products
and services provided by their consulting division. Even if the consulting provided unquestionable
benefits to the client, the relationship between the audit firm and the client could become too cosy ,
and discourage the client from considering other auditors. Finally, the auditor could be reluctant to
qualify the audit report for fear of losing lucrative fees from consulting services. If this occurs, the
audit is less valuable because the auditor is less independent.
4. An assurance engagement involves evaluation or measurement of subject matter against criteria.
What criteria are used in a financial report audit?

Essay On Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
Introduction
Carbon monoxide poisoning is illness caused by inhaling carbon monoxide gas. Carbon monoxide is a
colorless, odorless gas. When the gas is inhaled, it quickly enters the bloodstream and reduces the
amount of oxygen that goes to your organs and cells. This can quickly become a life threatening
problem.
Carbon monoxide poisoning is a medical emergency. People who are elderly or who have heart
disease or lung disease are more likely to have worse effects from carbon monoxide poisoning.
What are the causes?
This condition is often caused by inhaling exhaust fumes from fuel burning sources. Burning any fuel
that contains carbon (gasoline, coal, charcoal, wood) releases carbon monoxide into the air. Sources of

Oxygen can be delivered through:
A face mask.
Breathing tubes that fit under your nostrils.
A breathing tube that is placed down your throat (endotracheal tube), in severe cases.
A hyperbaric chamber, in some severe cases. A hyperbaric chamber is a clear, cylindrical, enclosed
space. You lie inside of the chamber, and oxygen is pumped into the chamber. This speeds up the
process in which oxygen is absorbed and replaces the carbon monoxide in your blood.
Follow these instructions at home:
Do not return to the area where you were exposed to carbon monoxide. The area must be thoroughly
ventilated before it is safe to return.
Take over the counter and prescription medicines only as told by your health care provider.
Do not use any products that contain nicotine or tobacco, such as cigarettes and e cigarettes. If you
need help quitting, ask your health care provider.
Return to your normal activities as told by your health care provider. Ask your health care provider
what activities are safe for you.
Keep all follow up visits as told by your health care provider. This is important.
How is this prevented?
Install a carbon monoxide detector in your home.
Have all gas stoves and furnaces inspected once a year.
Clean all fireplace chimneys and flues at least once a year.
Have the exhaust system in your car checked once a year.
Never keep a car s motor running in a closed garage.

A Conservationist Manifesto Analysis
A Conservationist Manifesto In A Conservationist Manifesto, Scott Russell Sanders argues that
consumerism is a destructive force in the nation. He offers a solution: As an antidote to this culture of
consumption, extravagance, and waste that dominates America today, we need to imagine a culture of
conservation. Sanders encourages readers to think of a new way to exist in the natural world. Sanders
enlightened my perspective on the mass amount of consumption that we suffer in America. As the
population of the U.S. continues to proliferate day by day, resources we possess both materialistically
and naturally must be preserved. According to Sanders, There are more people living in poverty than
the amount of people alive in the 1900 s. I never perceived conservation to be a critical subject;
however, after noticing the amount of devastation within the wilderness and our waters caused by the
lack of conservation, I realized we must reassess the exploitation of natural resources. ... Show more

Between 2000 and 2013, 2.3 Million square kilometers (890,000 square miles) of forest around the
world were cut down. We are slowly precipitating an Earth that will fail in providing resources. To
take in consideration that only 6.2 million square kilometers of forest remains, from the original 16
million, shows how consumers encourage deforestation and in the matter of 13 years, were able to
destroy 12.5% of nature. One of the ways Sanders exposes these corporations by stating, The scale of
devastation caused by human activity is unprecedented, and it is accelerating, spurred on by a global
system of nation states battling for advantage, and by an economic system addicted to growth and
waste. So the work of conservation becomes ever more urgent (Sanders 212). As everyday consumers,
we must desperately reevaluate and change our

New Laws and Regulations Affect on Compensation and Benefits Plans
Healthcare Reform and pension plan fee disclosures increase employer costs
abstract
The labor and economic climate and the labor market of today have a lot of uncertainty. In today s soft
labor market, compensation and benefits might seem like a non issue. Small business are struggling to
be competitive in the business world and in order for them to do so them must compete to hire those
employees that have a high degree of competence, qualifications and knowledge. Rewards strategies
have taken on renewed significance for human resources and financial professionals.
In addition, sweeping legislative and regulatory changes demand a clear understanding of new ...

Generally, the specified minimums require: (i) the employee s cost for the coverage to be less than or
equal to 9.5% of the employee s household income, and (ii) the actuarial value of the benefits covered
under the plan to equal or exceed 60% of the cost of the covered services. Employers who offer
coverage that does not satisfy these specified minimums must pay a monthly tax of $250 (i.e., one
twelfth of $3,000) for each full time employee who receives federal premium assistance for coverage
(with a cap on such penalty equal to $166.67 times the number of the employer s full time employees
but ignoring the first 30 full time employees).
These penalties will not be solely enforced on the employer, there will be some penalties enforced on
some employees. A full time employee who works a minimum of 30 hours a week who does not
procure health insurance might also feel the wrath of certain penalties that will be levied.
How the will law affect hr?
As a result of the healthcare reform, Human Resource personnel will be carefully monitored and
scrutinized not only by the federal government but by employees as they have to go through all the
new verbiage and requirements of the new health care legislation. As stated earlier, the jury is still out
on whether the health care legislation will achieve its ultimate goal of extending health care coverage
to those who are currently not covered and, more importantly, make it more affordable. One

Natural Monopoly Supplies All for a Lower Price
atural monopoly is a type of monopoly that was because of high fixed or set up cost of operating a
business in an industry. And governments often regulate those in operation, to make sure that every
consumer can get a fair deal. In fact, the size of production that can achieve productive efficiency may
be a high proportion of the total demand of the products in the industry. Natural monopolies are often
associated with industries sector where there is a high ratio of fixed to variable costs. For example, for
a product to establish a national distribution network the fixed cost can be enormous but the marginal
cost of each additional output supply can be very small. Natural monopoly occurs when one large
business can supply the entire market at a lower price than two or more smaller ones, which there
cannot be more than one efficient provider of a good. In this situation, competition might increase
costs and prices. It is an industry where the minimum efficient scale is a large share of total market
demand such there is room for only one firm to fully exploit all of the available internal economies of
scale, and the industry has long run average cost curve falls continuously as output rises. Market
failure is when resources cannot be efficiently allocated due to the fault of price mechanism caused by
factors such as establishment of monopolies. It s also used to describe when market can t satisfy
public interest, and will result of a loss of economic and social welfare.

Cholesterol
Cholesterol is a soft, fat like, waxy substance found in the bloodstream and in all your body s cells. It s
normal to have cholesterol. It s an important part of a healthy body because it s used for producing cell
membranes and some hormones, and serves other needed bodily functions. But too high a level of
cholesterol in the blood is a major risk for coronary heart disease, which leads to heart attack. It s also
a risk factor for stroke. Hypercholesterolemia is the term for high levels of blood cholesterol. You get
cholesterol in two ways. Your body makes some of it, and the rest comes from cholesterol in animal
products that you eat, such as meats, poultry, fish, eggs, butter, cheese and whole milk. Food from
plants — like fruits, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people — such as women before menopause and young, active men who have no other risk
factors — may have high HDL cholesterol and desirable LDL levels. Ask your doctor to interpret your
results. Everyone s case is different. High risk if your total cholesterol level is 240 or more, it s
definitely high. Your risk of heart attack and stroke is greater. In general, people who have a total
cholesterol level of 240 mg/dL have twice the risk of heart attack as people whose cholesterol level is
200 mg/dL. You need more tests. Ask your doctor for advice. About 20 percent of the U.S. population
has high blood cholesterol levels. Your LDL cholesterol level greatly affects your risk of heart attack
and stroke. The lower your LDL cholesterol, the lower your risk. In fact, it s a better gauge of risk than
total blood cholesterol. Your LDL cholesterol will fall into one of these categories: LDL Cholesterol
Levels Less than 100 mg/dL Optimal 100 to 129 mg/dL Near Optimal/ Above Optimal 130 to 159
mg/dL Borderline High 160 to 189 mg/dL High 190 mg/dL and above Very High The key point to
remember is the lower your LDL cholesterol, the lower your risk. Your doctor may prescribe a diet
low in saturated fat and cholesterol, regular exercise and a weight management program if you re
overweight. If you can t lower your cholesterol with these efforts, medications may also be prescribed
to lower your LDL

Advantages And Disadvantages Of PH Federalism
PH Federalism Debate: Where Are We Now?
The Constitution, regarded as the fundamental law of the land, is the foundation of our institutions.
Constitutions seek to build, enable and regulate institutions that cater the needs and rights of people (
What is a Constitution? ) They also have a key role in empowering states, providing government
stability and legitimizing regimes (Heywood 338).
Any attempt at an amendment or revision of our constitution entails a complex process of discourse
and decision making. Amendments mean changing specific provisions in our Constitution without
affecting its other parts. But, a revision implies a fundamental review to change the essence or totality
of our Constitution ( How To Change A Constitution. ). With the ongoing debate on the viability of a
shift to a federal form of government in the Philippines, not only politicians and scholars but the
citizenry should pay a close attention because everyone will be affected by ... Show more content on

Among them include the UPSE Ayala Forum, CPBRD Lecture Series and the PIDS Annual Public
Policy Conference (Agabin et al.; Corpuz et al.). These lectures evaluated, discussed and analyzed the
prospects of federalism in the country using different perspectives and fields of inquiry where
reception for federalism ranged from full support to constructive criticisms. In general, advocates of
federalism argue that under a federal system, the Philippines will have a more inclusive economic
development by allowing the regions to have better fiscal autonomy. Moreover, they see it as way to
ensure more avenues for representation through regional governments that know better of policies that
suit local conditions while bringing the government closer to the people accommodating our country s
archipelagic nature and ethno linguistic diversity. They also see it as the key solution to the Mindanao

Bosnian Genocide Essay
In 1992 when Bosnia declared its independence from the Yugoslav, Orthodox Christian Serbians were
losing power to the Muslim Bosniaks. The Bosnian Serb forces did not want to be outnumbered by
Bosniaks at all. Especially when it came to things like politics. The Serbs that lived in Bosnia
Herzegovina felt threatened by the numerous amount of Muslim power, so they decided to
exterminate them. This resulted in a genocide. A genocide is the deliberate killing of a large group of
people. This genocide is known as the Bosnia and Herzegovina Genocide.
The Bosnian and Herzegovinian Genocide took place in Bosnia and Herzegovina, (Bosnia), and
Serbia. Before Bosnia became independent, they started to elect their first president. At the time there

They organized their genocide by state, (Bosnia and Herzegovina). Their goal was to exterminate all
Bosniaks, (Muslim people who lived in Bosnia), and Croats, (Croatians who lived in Bosnia). That
made the Bosniaks and Croats the victim. They were being targeted because ever since Bosnia broke
away from Yugoslavia, Serbians had less power.
Bosnia breaking away from Yugoslavia is the catalyst for this genocide. When they broke away, the
Serbs living in Bosnia didn t have the population power, political power, or religious power. They
figured that if they just took out all of the Bosniaks, (who had the majority power at the time), then
they would be better off. So, that s what they did. They began their extermination process in early
May of 1992 by attacking a Bosniak dominated town.
Unfortunately, this was only the beginning of it. The Serbians quickly started to gain speed in their
extermination process. The whole process of wiping out all Bosniaks and Croats was expected to take
about five years. But, in 1994 NATO forces initiated air strikes against the Bosnian Serbs to stop the
murders/ attacks. In December of 1955 the conflict was ended and there was a force created to
maintain ceasefire. Over the course of those three years Bosniaks and Croats were tortured, killed, and
starved by the

soon for the keyword analysis. If possible sketch a simple diagram, this will help you later to
remember how your first website s structure was planned.
Keyword analysis, do some research which keywords need to be used to find your website
Traffic from Google or other search engines is great for conversions on your website. To get your site
in Google s search results you need to know which keywords are used by your customers. By using
the Google Adwords Keyword Tool it s possible to find the most popular keywords. Access the tool
and enter 3 5 important keywords which are related to your product or service. From the generated list
of keywords it s not smart to select those with the highest search volume because it s very hard to

  • 2. Language Reflection There will be times were the kids were getting restless or acted uninterested in the class and Mrs. Manner will call them by their names and tell them to pay attention, if the behavior was repeated she will say something along the lines of ; Mr., this is the second time, I had to call your attention, and that usually made them stop and listen. When communicating nonverbally, she will open her eyes wide to show appreciation for answering in a correct manner or will narrow her eyes to tell children to control themselves. Afterwards, the children who stayed in the rug will trace the letter assigned and make a picture about it with Mrs. Manner. Yet the children in the round table with me, will be read a story and I was suppose to ask them questions about the story and sometimes we had to sing songs accordingly. Subsequently, my group will later switch to the floor and I will repeat the same lesson to the kids who were earlier in the rug. Sometimes the whole group will be overly excited and Mrs. Manner will say Macaroni and Cheese to which the whole group will answer; Everybody Freeze. This usually refocused the student s attention to the class. Some children will always participate and give accurate answers, while other students try persistently to disrupt the class. Moreover, some kids will raise their hands and then give you a personal account of their vacation or something completely unrelated to the class. • 3. The United States Should Go From The Metric System The debate on whether or not the United States should go to the metric system has been ongoing for years and still to this day the United States uses the English System of Measurements. It includes the inch, foot, yard and mile, along with many other units of measurement. The United States is one of three countries that still use other systems of measurement instead of going metric. The other two countries that have not adopted to using the metric system are Liberia and Burma, also known as Myanmar. The metric system is simply a unit of measure. It is used in medicine, science and engineering. This system makes it easier to make conversions by moving the decimal either to the left or right. It also has stability by using prefixes and each unit has only one value, regardless of what is being measured or who is measuring. There are fewer measures to learn in the metric system than in the English Customary System. Instead of having to remember that there are 12 inches in a foot, 3 feet in a yard and 1760 yards in a mile, it would be much easier to multiply or divide a number by a certain power of 10. It would be much easier for the United States to communicate to the rest of the world by switching to the metric system. Everything that is important to the future of our country and economy, such as industry, science business and exports, is already using the metric system. Units in the English system of measurements such as the foot and gallon are all based on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Got Milk Documentary Analysis Although all of the advertising campaigns mentioned in the documentary have impacted me in some way, I would have to say that the one that has impacted me the most would be the got milk campaign. I thought it was interesting to hear the story of what inspired the slogan, mainly because of how such a simple catchy phrase exploded and became one of the most used slogans around the world. In the documentary it was shown that the main goal when selecting the slogan was simply to remind people to continue buying milk. I am sure the campaign accomplished that goal and exceeded any expectations they had. Personally the got milk campaign did not make me or my family purchase more milk than before but I remember seeing got milk advertisements ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A week before my birthday, my boyfriend and his friends went on a vacation in Outer Banks, North Carolina. I was going to go on this trip, but I figured that it would be nice for him to just spend time with his guy friends since they were all leaving for college in a month. The day that the guys all came from this vacation, my boyfriend s one friend was going around and telling everyone that the boys went to a strip club three times while they were down there. Now, this friend is known to be a pathological liar and I knew that his claim was probably not true, but I still wanted to know the real answer. So that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Japanese-Americans Racism-Discrimination Each day we live, taking for granted everything we have. Freedom to choose where to live, eat, work, and go to school. What would happen if all of that was taken away? And not just by another country, but by our own people. Our own government took our rights and belongings away overnight. What would people do? On February 19 of 1942, the president of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt, signed an evacuation order, ordering the evacuation of all persons deemed a threat to national security from the West Coast to relocation centers further inland ( ). Meaning anyone who looked like they were of japanese descent, was considered a threat to the security of the United States. The racism towards the japanese people was in the way they were looked at, how they lived in the camps, and how they were treated. On December 7, 1941 there was a tragic attack on an American military base in Hawaii, called Pearl Harbor. It was led by the japanese empire. This is what started it all, with the racism of the different ethnic groups towards to japanese people. Each time fellow Americans saw someone of japanese descent, it brought up memories of this day in history. The emotions it stirred up the pain and loss, created anger and hatred towards each of these people. The people of America were scared. The president decided to send the people of his own country away. Some say it was for their own protection, but others say it was just because we were afraid of the Japanese American people ... • 8. The s Message Of Race And Identity By Mark Twain Essay Though scholars have primarily focused study of Pudd nhead Wilson on the novel s messages of race and identity, Mark Twain wrote into it an examination of scientific values versus natural values. Much of the book concerns itself with the title character s methods of detection, and in the character of Pudd nhead Wilson the reader finds a strong critique of scientific positivism. In the employment of natural scenery for certain human action, man s misuse of nature is criticized. Likewise, the conclusion of the novel also focuses on social manipulation of natural processes, with a pessimistic conclusion. Pudd nhead Wilson rejects the interference of social construction and scientific interpretation in man s experience with nature. Pudd nhead Wilson is the symbol of science in all its shortcomings and excesses. The narrator s attitude toward Wilson is not truculent, but it does highlight the aspects of this protanganist that are highly unflattering. The reader knows Wilson to possess Scotch patience and pluck (27), and he is able to solve the murder of York Driscoll. Yet, his scientific experiments are often of dubious value and his detective skill is impaired by a remakable blindness (Porter 163) to Tom and Roxana s scheme. He is first introduced as a bit of a dilletante: He had a rich abundance of idle time, but it never hung heavy on his hands, for he interested himself in every new thing that was born into the universe of ideas (27). He was called an irrational man within the halls of his own home in Manhattan, putting Allen in a new kind of spotlight. After ending his twelve year relationship with Mia Farrow, accusations arose claiming that Mr. Allen had molested the couples adopted daughter Dylan when she was seven. However, despite the precarious circumstances in which the allegations arose, both sides continue to maintain their respective arguments. Mr. Allen objects to said accusations, claiming he is innocent. Mia, on the opposing side, is in defense of Dylan (now thirty) who did not speak on the issue publicly until February of 2014 ... A progression of police investigations followed, in which the Connecticut Police enlisted the help of the Child Sexual Abuse Clinic of the Yale New Haven Hospital. After evaluating all parties involved they summed up their conclusions by making a public statement that follows thus; It is our expert opinion that Dylan was not sexually abused by Mr. Allen. Further, we believe that Dylan s statements on videotape and her statements to us during our evaluation do not refer to actual events that occurred to her on August 4th, 1992 (Allen). Due to these finding Mr. Allen was not charged with any crimes, but found the judge irresponsible for his verdict of we will probably never know what occurred (Allen). As a result of the scandal, Mr. Allen lost custody of his children. Twenty years after the accusations, Dylan Farrow makes her first public comment on the incident in an open letter published in The New York Times. • 10. The Movie The Rain Maker s Bad Faith Suite Against... There is a scene in the legal thriller, The Rain Maker where the young newly minted lawyer Rudy Bailor (Matt Damon) is squared off in the judge s chambers with big time corporate lawyer Leo F. Drummond (Jon Voight) and a cranky coughing judge Harvey Hale (Dean Stockwell) to discuss the pre trial merits of Rudy s Bad Faith suite against health insurance giant Great Benefit. The coughing grouchy judge (who later dies of a heart attack) sneers across his desk at the young Rudy Bailor and wheezes: This lawsuit bothers me Mr. Bailor! I wouldn t use the word frivolous, but...I m not impressed with the merits of it to be frank. In fact, (cough) I m really TIRED of these kinds of lawsuits. I m inclined to grant the motion to dismiss. Now...you can re file it in Federal court, you know...take it somewhere else (cough), I don t want it clogging up my docket!!! This scene has always impressed upon me the reluctance and recalcitrance of well established judges refusing to not only embrace difficult cases to the fullest of their ability and potential, but who also willfully and knowingly avoid cases that stand to challenge established legal precedent, or stare decisis, in the pursuit of justice. With this point in mind, in evaluating many of the legal cases we have reviewed throughout our course, the one aspect of law that particularly intrigues me, and is most glaring with respect to the cause of justice, is what appears to be many instances of the courts finding ways to avoid or ... • 15. The First Fundamental Theorem Of Welfare Economics Introduction When studying market structure, the First Fundamental Theorem of Welfare Economics states that markets will distribute resources efficiently if the following conditions are met: the market is perfectly competitive, there are no externalities or public goods, markets are complete, and there is no asymmetric information (Gruber, 2013). If a healthcare market complied with these four pillars of the First Welfare Theorem, a healthcare provider s choice of output would not affect the price of the service, ultimately leading to Pareto efficiency. As seen in Figure 1, the consumer demand curve would be horizontal, as average revenue, marginal revenue, and price would be the same, constant value. Figure 1: Perfect Competition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the provider produces one extra unit of a good or service, the overall price decreases. The provider receives a lower price for infra marginal goods, or the goods that would have been sold without reducing the price (Png, 2012). For example, if a healthcare provider chooses to increase production from 100 units to 200 units, the price must be reduced from $50 to $40. The provider will gain revenue (100 x $40= $4,000) from the additional units, but will lose ($50 $40) x 100= $1,000) the 100 infra marginal units that the provider could have sold at the higher price. So, average revenue for the provider will be $40, while marginal revenue will be $30. Thus, average revenue and price remain equal, while marginal revenue now falls below the price curve (Png, 2012). Figure 2: Marginal Revenue Curve vs. Average Revenue Curve in a Monopoly In order to determine price, the monopolist utilizes the inverse demand curve, also known as the average revenue curve. This curve reflects the price the provider would need to charge to produce demand at a particular level. Thus, the average revenue curve dictates what price the next unit can be sold at, while the marginal revenue curve reflects how much additional revenue is received for selling the next unit (Schwartz, 2010). As can be seen in Figure 3, since marginal revenue does not equal average revenue, the monopolist will set the quantity supplied where marginal revenue is equal to marginal cost. However, it will ... No Denial of Medical Care In order to state a constitutional claim under the Eighth Amendment for lack of proper medical care, a prisoner must meet a three fold test. In order to state an Eight Amendment claim for denial of medical care, a plaintiff must demonstrate that the actions of the defendants or their failure to act amounted to deliberate indifference to a serious medical need. However, in the circles of academia, labor relations get classified as a subarea of industrial relations, even though researchers from numerous disciplines also study labor movements and labor unions. Nevertheless, in practice, labor relations get classified as a subarea in the management of human resource. • 20. Elizabethan Poetry Elizabethan Poetry I Drama dominates our syllabus but the Renaissance was a Golden Age not just for English drama, but also for English poetry. But what was English poetry? George Puttenham s The Arte of English Poesie (1589) and Sir Philip Sidney s The Defense of Poesie (1595): early attempts to think about English poetry as a distinct national tradition. Puttenham and Sidney were concerned to build a canon and help shape English poetry into a tradition capable of rivalling more prestigious literatures (for example of Italy and France). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How do we understand the pain and frustration expressed in this poetry? How can we make sense of this form and its popularity? Three points/suggestions: 1. Renaissance writers and critics generally did not value poetry in terms of its genuineness or sincerity. The idea that poetry should be genuine or sincere is a much more recent conception, which goes back to the Romantic period. 2. Writing Petrarchan poetry was part of a cultural performance, a way of demonstrating wit, grace and mastery i.e. sprezzatura . Consider the extreme competitiveness of the Elizabethan courtly milieu. 3. Petrarchan conventions also function as a code for other, non erotic problems and experiences. Wyatt, Surrey and Sidney belonged to England s most illustrious families and were all extremely proud and ambitious men, but they didn t always get the treatment they thought they deserved. The use of Petrarchan conventions to vent frustrated ambition became especially widespread after 1558, when there was a woman on the throne. Finally a few words about Sir Philip Sidney (1554 86), the Elizabethan courtier, diplomat, politician, soldier, scholar, lover, patron and poet (QEI: the most accomplished gentleman in Europe ). Visual Anthropology And Cultural Anthropology Society is made up of ordinary items that throughout the years are given value by outsiders, people who think outside of the world they are in, or by those, who are, from a different time period. Anthropologists have been able to study the differences in human cultures and how they have evolve. There are now four major fields of anthropology: biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology, and archaeology (Dennis O Neil). Within these fields are subfields, visual anthropology is a very important subfield of cultural anthropology. Visual anthropology is the study of the history of human customs and culture through what one sees or perceives in various types of media. Therefore, ...the use of visual material in anthropological research...is the study of visual systems and visible cultures (Banks and Morphy). Since media is seen as a representation of the truth, it is reasonable to say that it plays a major role in the accurate views of how society is. There are two categories in which I would like to describe how visual anthropology tries to describe human culture and custom: images and objects. Through visual anthropology, images, ads, and cartoons are constantly changing individual s views and the world in which they live in. Images are not merely pictures to state the obvious, they are pictures that have a deeper meaning. Whether the meaning is shown or not shown, they convey representation of something more meaningful in the end. Stuart Hall ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. Compare And Contrast Keats And John Keats Percy Bysshe Shelley and John Keats were both unconventional men during their era. They were both part of the romantics, poets who sought nature as a way of expressing their most bare and intimate feelings. Their greatest aspiration was to resemble great poets like Wordsworth and Coleridge, who they admired profoundly. However, Keats and Shelley were completely different both in their outlook of life and even in the way that they expressed their feelings. John Keats was a poet who followed his passion for poetry and left his medical career to become a poet. He was a passive man who believed in the beauty of nature and held a respect and fear for it as well. Shelley was a man beyond his years, he was an adventurous man who held a deep love for nature and uniqueness, as we can see in many of his sonnets and poems. Both believed greatly that the power of art held and radiated once it was acknowledged. Through their sonnets they expressed their respect for artists and their work, exalting them for the passion and John Keats, On First Looking into Chapman s Homer. Gave us a more personal view of an artist s work. The Odyssey had been John Keats long obsession, his dream had always been to be able to read it, however, he had not been able because it had not been translated. • 28. Different Types Of Cell Cycle Chapter five primarily covers information about cells, cell division, and the different types of cell cycles. The cell cycle is a sequence of events that makeup the life of a typical eukaryotic cell, from the moment of its origin, to the time it divides to produce two daughter cells. Interphase starts off the cell cycle and it is the longest stage in the cell cycle. Most cells spend 90% or more of their life span in interphase. Interphase is divided into three main phases G0, G1, S, and G2 phases. This portion of the cell cycle takes in nutrients; manufactures proteins and other substances, expands in size, and conducts special functions which depend on the cell type. The G1 phase is the first phase in the life of a newborn cell, and is known as the gap 1 phase. The S phase is the phase that follows the G1 phase. In this phase, cells that are destined to divide, preparations for cell division begin during the S phase. The s in this phase stands for synthesis . This phase is responsible for replication of the cell s DNA, and this is one of the most important responsibilities performed in this phase. G2 phase occurs after the S phase but before the start of cell division. The G2 phase is known as the gap 2 phase. The G1 phase, S phase, and G2 phase, each make up the parts of interphase. Cell division is the last stage in the life of an individual cell. As cell division begins, the cell contains twice the amount of DNA because of DNA replication in the S phase. The G0 ... But on the flip side of the spectrum when compared to his previous statement, he also says that Benevolence is absolute and real which can be taken as a person is completely filled with righteousness, honesty, and respect (Emerson 105). These two statements that he has made, makes it seem like his perception is that a person can either be evil or good, and that there is no in between in his mindset. But these statements contradict another claim that he had made, which I used as an example earlier. He said that Evil is merely primitive, not absolute which most certainly contradicts with his statement that Absolute badness, is absolute death (Emerson 105). Finally, the auditors will benefit from additional revenue which can be used to subsidise the audit firm s investments in knowledge and systems, and streamline the audit. The main disadvantages of audit firms providing services to their audit clients relate to potential adverse effects on the auditor s independence. The auditor could be unwilling to provide services which would reduce their audit fees or cause the client to seek another auditor. The auditor could be unwilling to criticise something to the client which was provided by their consulting division. The auditor could be blind to potential adverse impacts on the client s accounting systems from products and services provided by their consulting division. Even if the consulting provided unquestionable benefits to the client, the relationship between the audit firm and the client could become too cosy , and discourage the client from considering other auditors. Finally, the auditor could be reluctant to qualify the audit report for fear of losing lucrative fees from consulting services. If this occurs, the audit is less valuable because the auditor is less independent.

  • 44. A Conservationist Manifesto Analysis A Conservationist Manifesto In A Conservationist Manifesto, Scott Russell Sanders argues that consumerism is a destructive force in the nation. He offers a solution: As an antidote to this culture of consumption, extravagance, and waste that dominates America today, we need to imagine a culture of conservation. Sanders encourages readers to think of a new way to exist in the natural world. Sanders enlightened my perspective on the mass amount of consumption that we suffer in America. As the population of the U.S. continues to proliferate day by day, resources we possess both materialistically and naturally must be preserved. According to Sanders, There are more people living in poverty than the amount of people alive in the 1900 s. I never perceived conservation to be a critical subject; however, after noticing the amount of devastation within the wilderness and our waters caused by the lack of conservation, I realized we must reassess the exploitation of natural resources. ... One of the ways Sanders exposes these corporations by stating, The scale of devastation caused by human activity is unprecedented, and it is accelerating, spurred on by a global system of nation states battling for advantage, and by an economic system addicted to growth and waste. So the work of conservation becomes ever more urgent (Sanders 212). As everyday consumers, we must desperately reevaluate and change our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And governments often regulate those in operation, to make sure that every consumer can get a fair deal. In fact, the size of production that can achieve productive efficiency may be a high proportion of the total demand of the products in the industry. Natural monopolies are often associated with industries sector where there is a high ratio of fixed to variable costs. For example, for a product to establish a national distribution network the fixed cost can be enormous but the marginal cost of each additional output supply can be very small. Natural monopoly occurs when one large business can supply the entire market at a lower price than two or more smaller ones, which there cannot be more than one efficient provider of a good. In this situation, competition might increase costs and prices. It is an industry where the minimum efficient scale is a large share of total market demand such there is room for only one firm to fully exploit all of the available internal economies of scale, and the industry has long run average cost curve falls continuously as output rises. Market failure is when resources cannot be efficiently allocated due to the fault of price mechanism caused by factors such as establishment of monopolies.
