How My Personality Developed
According to Larsen and Buss (2005, p. 4), personality is defined as a set of psychological traits and
mechanisms within an individual that are organized and relatively enduring which that influence the
individual s interactions with, and adaptations to, the intrapsychic, physical, and social environments .
Then, the enhancement from the dynamic organization that leads to distinctive is called personality
development. Blanchard Fields and Cavanaugh (2011, p. 14) stated that personality development is
progressed by the continuous interaction of the biological, psychological, sociocultural, and life cycle
forces of development such as the environment, character and temperament . Not only that, the correct

Somehow, I still couldn t accept the fact that I had to go thru all these. My mum and sister did not
have tumor in their breasts so I was supposed not being affected as well. Life is unfair! In fact, what
hurt me the most was that my boyfriend started to ignore me after I told him. He turned off his phone
so that I could not reach him and he did not even visit me and so as my classmates. At first, I thought
that they were just busy on their own stuffs and they would come to visit me once they are free but
they all were like suddenly disappeared from my life, I met none of them. I felt so lonely and empty. I
thought I was the famous one but the truth was that no one even cared about me. All the efforts and
memories that I put in my school were wasted. Suddenly, I had the thought of giving up. Maybe I
should just end my life. There was nothing left of me. I refused to take medicine and looked for
reasons to skip treatments. Not only that, I chased my mum out of my sight whenever she came to
visit me. I scolded her and shouted at her. I always curled myself on bed and dreaming, feeling
hopeless and broken. I hated myself. One evening, a nurse sat beside me and she smiled to me. I knew

The Ottoman Empire and Judaism
The reason the Jews went to the Ottoman Empire was because the Christians persecuted them because
of their different beliefs. The Jews were so scared of what the Christians might do they wanted to
settle in a safer place which the Ottomans offered them. The Ottomans offering them land was the best
thing the Jews could have asked for. The Ottomans offered the Jews protection, offered them
communal autonomy and tolerated their religious practices. The Ottomans at the time had a rule about
non Muslims having to pay a tax, which is called the Jitza. The Muslims considered Jews and
Christians dhimmi or the people of the pact. The dhimmi we issued to pay the jitza, and where forced
to follow these rules; prohibition against carrying fire arms, against riding horses, against building
new houses or worship or even repairing old ones, against proselytism, against building homes higher
than Muslim ones, and they must wear distinctive clothing. Even after all of these rules the Jewish
community still thrived in the Ottoman Empire. The population of Jews in the Ottoman Empire was
very distinct and was coming from different places. The most noticeable and most studied among the
Jews in the Ottoman Empire were the Sephardim. The Sephardim had great political and cultural
influence on the Ottoman Empire. The Jews became very valuable to the Ottomans because of the ties
they had with Europe. Europeans brought new languages and technologies including the newest forms
in medicine,

Homework in Moderation is Good Essays
Did you know that homework is one of the greatest causes of student dropouts and failing? Homework
has been a major debate across America ever since the beginning of the twentieth century. At first,
homework was seen as a muscle that could be trained by learning and people enjoyed that learning
could be done at home. This enthusiastic spirit did not last for long because in the forties, Professor H.
J. Otto explained that, Compulsory homework does not result in sufficiently improved academic
accomplishment (Otto 380). In the 1950s, with the launch of Sputnik, the United States feared that
Russia would dominate the world in technology if homework continued to be unnecessary to
complete. This incident has partially shaped our nation to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order for students to solidify their core understanding of certain topics, homework must be used
because it allows students to recall what they have learned outside of school and learning skills can be
improved. For example, Harris Cooper summarizes many of the positive outcomes that homework has
on a student s life. Cooper categorizes these outcomes into four different sections: immediate
achievement and learning, long term academic benefits, nonacademic benefits, and greater parental
appreciation of and involvement in school. Under the first section, Cooper explains that one s learning
can progress rapidly because there will be an increased understanding, better critical thinking, greater
concept formation, information processing, curriculum enrichment, and better retention of factual
knowledge for a student in the learning process. In terms of long term academic benefits, homework
allows students to learn anything they want in their leisure time, an improved attitude toward school
can be observed, and new study habits can be formed to finish homework can classwork in more
efficient timing. However, Cooper s third category is considered one of the more important ones
because it shows how homework is not only limited in the life of an academic enthusiast, but also for
others, who do not focus on studying academic related subjects. For instance, according to Cooper s
studies, he has found that self direction,

The Problem Of Human Trafficking
Imagine being taken from the comfort of your house and family. Then envision that you are forced to
either inject or ingest as drugs to give sexual pleasure to one person while the other reaps financial
benefits. You are experiencing such atrocity at the same moment in which your loved ones are mourn
your loss. Eventually, you are unrecognizable and affected by traumatizing experiences. The effects
that you frequently feel are numb and now you are suffer from post traumatic stress disorder. This is
the reality that many endure on daily basis. It is caused by the constant practice of human trafficking.
According to the United Nations of Drugs and Crime, Human Trafficking of a Person is the
recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use of
force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a
position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of
a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation shall
include, at a minimum, the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual
exploitation, forced labour or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal
of organs . Human Trafficking is not something that is new to the world. Infact Human Trafficking has

L. L Bean Boots Essay
Bean boots are not only used for hunting but are also used for day to day wear. The initials in L.L bean
stand for Leon Leonwood(Westbrook). Leon Leonwood was the founder of the LL bean boots and
started the company as well. The production of Bean boots dates back to 1912 and the company is still
making the same style of boots today (History of Ll Bean). Leon Leonwood spent most of his time
outdoors. Leonwood needed a waterproof boot that could be worn out which inspired him to invent
the Bean Boots ( History of Ll Bean). L.L. Bean boots are one of the most popular outdoor footwear
items that are on the market because they are waterproof, stylish, and good for hunting.
The L.L Bean boot is known for being able to wear it in all conditions and one of these traits include
being waterproof. The boot consists of leather at the top and a rubber midsole. Leonwood put them to
the test as he was exploring outside for many years. The first time he released his Bean boots, ninety
nine of the one hundred pairs were returned because they were not waterproof ( History of L.L. Bean )
. Leon wanted to perfect his product, so changes were made which included a new kind of stitching
where the leather connected to the rubber ( History of L.L. Bean ). ... Show more content on

The baccalaureate student learns to apply nursing theory. Baccalaureate nurses have been shown to
provide better patient care. (Aiken, Clarke, Sloane, Lake and Cheney, 2008) (deback, 1986) noted that
more educated nurses act independently, take responsibilities for judgment and take on advocacy
roles. Less educated nurses are so content driven, that they cannot guide their nursing care beyond
what is text book or has been taught in school. The following is an example of the above: Mr. Doe has
just been admitted to your floor for the third time in two months. He is a brittle diabetic and each
admission he comes in with ketoacidosis. An ADN would treat them per protocol and doctor s orders.
In three days he is discharged with hopes he won t be back again within a week. Take the BSN and
give them the same patient/scenario. He/she would treat the ketoacidosis just like the ADN. The
baccalaureate nurse is able to go even further. They would be able to see that this man has had 3
admissions in 2 months and realize there is a problem and would look for a solution to correct the
problem with the end result, decreasing so many admissions to the hospital (for the same problem.)

all tie in with the nursing metaparadigm of person, environment, health and nursing practice. A

Religious Conflict Of Dante s Inferno
Jessica Gay World Literature Dr. Schott 9 November 2014 Religious Conflict in Dante s Inferno
Critics Daniel Tompsett and Donald Winchester and literary scholar Nicole Rudick have argued that
Dante s Inferno is a dark and hopeless telling of how we are all relegated to sin and lack the will or
righteousness to turn from sin and temptation. Tompsett and Winchester state that, The placement of
living figures in each section was a judgment and a condemnation, albeit subjective, on both history
and the people he knew (Tompsett). They both agree that Dante is painting a picture of the dredges of
society and the torture that they must endure as a result of their inability to turn from sin. They also
quote scholar David H. Higgins to say that Dante arguably believed he was writing a gospel to convert
his recalcitrant age (Tompsett). Scholar and critic Nicole Rudick confirms this portrayal of dismal
hopelessness with her comment, Dante created a rigid view of good and evil, showing no mercy for
those who did not repent during their lifetimes and sparing no one in his accounting of misdeeds, vice,
immorality, and generally inappropriate comportment (Rudick 29). It is my opinion that the
aforementioned scholars and critics are missing Dante s point. When I read the poem I am overcome
with quite the opposite view. I believe that a better way to interpret Dante s poem is to consider that he
was asking each of us to reflect on our waywardness and sin and to come to the

How Does Marat Use Art As Propaganda
On July 13, 1793, a young Royalist by the name of Charlotte Corday managed to gain entry into
French revolutionary leader Jean Paul Marat s apartment. As the well known writer had agreed to
receive her, she proceeded to stab and kill him when he was most vulnerable, in his bathtub. This was
where he was accustomed to sitting hour after hour treating the disfiguring skin disease from which he
suffered. The disease is thought of to be dermatitis herpetiformis, a rare ailment where the sufferer
lives with chronic, very itchy skin rashes made up of bumps and blisters. A traumatic political
assassination was carried out by a woman and only added fuel to the revolutionary fire. The Death of
Marat has been forever captured by Jacques Louis David as a famous work of art which now resides
within the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium. Further examining this piece shows how the work
of art was used as propaganda during its time period. Looking at the piece it s clear that Marat is

David fills his canvas with numerous details borrowed from Marat s world, including the knife which
was used to kill him and Charlotte s petition. Having these items be the only ones in the room with
any connection towards the assassin almost completely erases her from the picture. Rather than place
the attention on her, he shines a light on Marat, allowing him to show a gentler side to the man. The
only piece of furniture in the room beside the bathtub itself is the writer s makeshift writing table
which at the bottom had something very interesting on it written in french. On the bottom of the
painting, it says year two. ( L an Deux translating directly to Year Two ). We are not in 1793 but

Examples Of My Mask
The Mask Within Me
As Kofi Annan stated, Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of
progress, in every society, in every family. Initially, masks were utilized several different ways. For
instance, people in the Stone Age used masks as a source of disguise to stalk their prey and later on
attempt to kill it. To add, civilizations through history such as the Greek used masks to impersonate
people and built their masks in a fashion where it acted as a megaphone. Though, my mask,

White beards are mostly associated with an old person, where they go from the transition of being
young to an old man who loses the ability to perform tasks. Though, the white beard is a symbol of the
innumerable joyful, stressful, and depressing moments that the old man has gone through. From these
events, this old man has gained knowledge and lessons that aid him into a much more sophisticated
human being. For instance, through countless cultures, elders are respected for their wisdom.
Religions such as the Hindu respect the elderly due to the fact that they lived longer or in other words
have more wisdom due to their excessive amount of experience. Moreover, this relates to me due to
the fact that I enjoy taking advantage of my experience because there are numerous lessons a person
can learn from them. For example, in a field trip to A.C.C., another American school in Morocco, we
went to see their science fair projects. Through this memorable moment, I learned what not and what
to include in my science fair to offer the finest presentation such as the display is one of the most

To verify our hypothesis, benzyl chloride 1a was initially chosen as a model substrate for an

The importance of copyright laws in the globalized and digital era cannot be gainsaid. The protection

copyright include official company logo, design of promotional brands and accompanying music used
in the company advertisements.
The analysis of the case reveals that Good Design Pty Ltd faces a number of issues in the use,
management and protection of original works. The first issue is the use of images found on the web.
The company cannot modify images found on the web without the permission of original creators.
Second, the company cannot use an image or video found on the web even if it does not have the

Female Protagonists of Detective Narratives
This essay will focus on female protagonists who are the center and driving force behind a detective
narrative. I will compare and contrast Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs and Lisbeth
Salander from The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo to explore two women that are progressive in breaking
through traditional gender roles and are successful at portraying a female that goes against the grain.
These women portray unique and progressive ideas about sexuality. Clarice and Lisbeth are two
empowered females that are successful as detectives. Usually, a female in the center of detective film
is misguided or taken advantage of because of the lack over control over their emotions. However,
Clarice and Lisabeth are two examples of women that embrace their femininity in order to get closer
to the killer. This paper will examine Clarice and Lisabeth from a post feminist perspective to prove
that these detectives are progressive in their roles.
Mulvey suggests that women are passive objects on screen that are meant to be enjoyed and looked at
at by the active male. Clarice and Slander can be seen as objects when critiquing it with just Mulveys
theory, however when looked at from a post feminist view it is clear that these women are intelligent
in their roles as detectives, and they use their sexuality to help them excel in their careers. Secondly,
Gates suggests that females as the center in a detective film become masculinized and if they do not

Essay On Ports And Terminal
3.3 Port and Terminal A port is defined as an area on both land and water, whether on the sea or river,
that provides facilities for shipping vessels to load and unload their cargo. This area, contained within
port limits , will have been established over years of increasing or declining trade patterns and
therefore is defined as the human set limits . There may be several harbors and/or terminals within the
port limits. While a terminal is defined as a single man made facility that may have several berths, that

The Religion Of The Hajj
Throughout time, many aspects of life have changed in drastic ways. One common thing around the
world, no matter where you are, that has evolved is over time is religion. One religion that has
changed has been Islam. Something that unites all Muslims is a common belief they have; The Five
Pillars. These Pillars allow the Muslim community to become one regardless of their social statue.
One of the most changed of these would be the Pilgrimage to Mecca. Also known as the Hajj, Every

This caused an increase in the total population of Muslims. This also caused a mass increase in the
number of Muslims that participated in the Hajj every year. Another problem that modernity presented
to the Hajj was the constant fighting that was going on in the areas where Islam was dominant.
Although there are more Muslims in Southeast Asia, the Middle East s population is 91% Muslim.
Even though majority of the citizens in this region practice the same religion, they are often very
different. These differences of Islam caused fighting and warfare all over the Middle East, and made
traveling through these regions very different. Today, many of the same problems apply. One of the
biggest problems that the Muslim community had pertaining to the Hajj was the massive amount of
people who attended each year. In 1941, there were about 24,000 pilgrims from countries other than
Saudi Arabia. In 2013, there were 1,379,500 international pilgrims that took the pilgrimage and about
800,000 Saudi Arabians took the Hajj. Combined, over 2 million pilgrims traveled to Mecca in 2013
for the Hajj. This causes many problems for the city of Mecca. Mecca has a population of about 1.6
million residents, over the 5 days of the Hajj, their city holds over two times as many people as it does
the rest of the year. This overpopulation causes chaos throughout the entire city as pilgrims try to visit.

Compensation Systems Compensation systems can take on many forms, all of which have positives
and negatives related to it. However, certain components are noted to be determinants of solid
compensation plans. One agreement of a solid compensation system is the use of incentives. Clearly a
successful companies set objectives that will provide incentives to increase profitability (Needles amp;
Powers, 2011). Incentive bonuses should be measures that the company finds important to long term
growth. According to Needles amp; Powers (2011) the most successful companies long term focused
on profitability measures. For large for profit firms, compensation programs should offer stock
options. The interweaving between the market value of a company s stock and company s
performance both motivate and increase compensation to employees As the market value of the stock
goes up, the difference between the option price and the market price grows, which increases the
amount of compensation (Needles amp; Powers, 2011). Conclusively, a compensation plan should
serve all stakeholders, be simple, group employees properly, reflect company culture and values, and
be flexible (Davis amp; Hardy, 1999; The Basics of a Compensation Program).
Four compensation models are laid out by the Bangor Family Physician case study. These models

Argumentative Essay On The War On Drugs
There are many significant moments throughout American history that formed the United States.
Unfortunately, not all historical moments are positive, such as the War on Drugs, but we must not
forget our preceding in order to progress our nation s future. While the War on Drugs has emerged, it
has damaged American far beyond what it has attempted to assist, to this day we continue to feel its
harmful effects. We must not overlook the imperative history that lead to the War on Drugs, the
underlying consequences of the War on Drugs, how it has affected American law and society, and the
reform of the War on Drugs. As we continue to attempt to improve our country, we must not continue
to make parallel mistakes with the repercussion of the War on Drugs as they come with many dire
consequences brought upon this country.
The history of the War on Drugs has come an extensive way as it began in the 1960s and continues to
this day. As the Republican Party were in favor of strict drug laws, they became in favor of Nixon s
policies. On July 14th, 1969 President Nixon announced to the public that the War on Drugs was a

Bitcoin Is A Payment System
Introduction
Bitcoin is a payment system that was published in 2008 by Satoshi Nakamoto. Bitcoin can be used to
make online payments that do not include financial institutions (Mazzei, 2015). Bitcoins can be used
all over the world at many restaurants, law firms, and other online services. Bitcoins can revolutionize
the entire world s payment system and take over our cash based society (Wonglimpiyarat, 2015). It
may be the payment system of the future but the vulnerability that it possesses is dangerous. In a
recent event that resulted in the loss of around 1.8 million dollars, BitPay, an Atlanta based bitcoin
payment processor, was hacked. It was done by email and the modifications of a Google document.
This is a huge security risk. Not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is unlikely any other form of currency that has an equivalent amount to existing fiat currencies
(Meiklejohn, et al., 2016). There is no overruling administration which has led to the anonymous
transactions that are present with the use of Bitcoins.
Bitcoin is an independent online system that uses features of both cash and online payment methods.
Similar to the use of cash, Bitcoins allow the individuals to be anonymous with their transactions. The
transaction is cryptographically signed to transfer the amount from one individual to another. At the
same time these transactions are irreversible. This is similar to the no charge back risk that is found
with credit cards. All Bitcoin transactions require a third party mediation: a global peer to peer
network of participants validates and certifies all transactions (Meiklejohn, et al., 2016). This
decentralization entails each transaction of the entire system to be stored by each individual who uses
Bitcoins. In 2012 this amounted to over three gigabits of compressed data (Meiklejohn, et al., 2016).
Comparison to Standard Payment Systems

The Four Concepts Of Symbolic Interactionism
Symbolic interactions are a major part of how we socialize with others. It happens every day without
us even realizing it. There are many concepts that assist in the formation of symbolic interactions, but
to better understand them, we need to apply them to social settings. The four concepts of social
interactionism theory I chose to observe at the social settings of my choosing were; definition of
situation, symbols, front regions, and role playing. These concepts often interrelate as they all are a
part of each other. To better understand these concepts, they were applied to two different social
settings which were the bar and mass at the Catholic church. The concepts will be defined and
reviewed in the order above.
When we refer to definition of situation, we are referring to what the entrance of the social setting
encompasses. We look at what are the norms, the rules, and what is acceptable in that setting. For
example, when I was entering the bar, there were people outside smoking. To be able to walk through
the front doors, there was a man who one had to give an ID to so he could check the age to allow the
person to get in. When I walked through the doors, there were people sitting at tables in groups of
three to five people on the left who would look to see who was entering the bar. On the right side of
the bar, there were four people playing foosball and two people at each pool table. As I continued to
the back, there were people sitting at the bar visiting.

Car Prowl Patterns
After looking at the patterns of car prowl crimes in the NE Airport way district it is obvious that is
highly packed with theft. There is somewhat of a pattern that occurs during the months of October and
November. The amount of car prowler crimes are slightly above average in these two months. This
could be due to the amount of shopping people do during these months because of Black Friday and
Halloween. Therefore, people are more vulnerable to leave their belongings in cars. Not just car prowl
crimes is high in the NE district but theft as a whole is very common. Looking at a strategy from the

The Panama Canal
Introduction
The Panama Canal has become famous all over the world for being one of the most successful canals
ever built, however, when it was first built many people thought that it was a mistake. During the
building of the canal, there were many problems and scandals that had to be taken care of before the
canal was up and running. Despite the problems during the construction of the canal, after
construction the canal greatly aided the economic growth of the United States in the early twentieth
century. In spite of the success of the canal and the seemingly positive impacts it had on the growth
and development of the U.S., some historians still believe that the construction of the Panama Canal
was not a good economic decision for the United States to make. The Panama Canal had a positive
effect on the U.S. economy because of the time saved by traveling through the canal, the money saved
from building the canal, and the growth of the U.S. economy as a whole as a result of the construction
of the canal.
Construction of the canal
Leaders in both Central America and the U.S supported the building of the canal. Both the Nicaraguan
and Costa Rican presidents were happy with the building of the Panama Canal. These leaders thought
that the canal would help bring economic prosperity to Central America, as well as the United States.
This helped the U.S. get approval from most of Central America to start the construction of the canal.

Pros And Cons Of Owning Exotic Animals
Bob just bought a new tiger for $8,000. He was mauled the next day. Owning exotic animals is a
horrendous idea all around. For one, they are ridiculously expensive going for around $8,000. Exotic
animals are extremely dangerous and if let loose, will wreak havoc. To add more fuel to this fire of an
argument , give me reasons why you should own exotic animals. Exotic animals are expensive to
absurd level. On page 223 in the editorial, Wild animals aren t pets, For $8,000 a baby white tiger can

Introduction Of Mapreduce Programming Model
Introduction to MapReduce Programming Model MapReduce is a programming model and an
associated implementation for processing and generating large data sets with a parallel, distributed
algorithm on a cluster [1]. Before the introduction of MapReduce, biggest challenge in front of Google
was processing large input data and distributed computations. There was no solution for parallelizing
the computations, distributing the data, and handling failures. In order to solve these problems, Google
introduced the concept of MapReduce for parallel computation in a distributed system for synthesizing
large datasets. MapReduce programming paradigm is similar to the concept of map and reduce
primitives which are present in Lisp and many other functional languages. The input to a MapReduce
program is a (key, value) pair. The output is a set of (key, value) pairs. There are two main functions, a
map function and a reduce function. Map function takes an input (key, value) pair and produces a set
of intermediate (key, value) pairs. The MapReduce library looks for all the values of one key and
groups them together. These are then passed to reduce function. The reduce function gets an
intermediate key and all the values associated with it and merges these values together to form a
possibly smaller set of values. The original implementation of MapReduce was done by Google but
now other companies are using their own implementation of MapReduce. For example, Amazon s

Slavery And Colonial Rule During Colonialism
Slavery and Colonial Rule
During the years of European colonialism in Africa, slavery was used as the main source of labor for
various colonial projects. Slaves worked on various levels of service to the colonial powers, especially
the French. These include working on plantations and military service. Even though the French and
the British were profiting from the labor and oppression of Africans, they soon faced opposition for
their use of slavery as a tool for economic gain. In this essay, I will explain these elements of slavery
in colonial rule, by detailing information from Martin Klein s Slavery and Colonial Rule in French
West Africa, and Trevor Getz s Slavery and Reform in West Africa. Klein discusses the status of the
slave and the history of mistreatment by Europeans. He focuses on the time when the Portuguese came
to Senegambia during the 1600s. It was during this time that slave labor was being used to feed the
courts of coastal kings as it was used in the medieval empires of the interior. These slaves were enemy
combatants, who were captured and sentenced to work as punishment. The author mentioned that
slaves during this period did not have rights or an official identity. Many of them faced many forms of
persecution and mistreatment. By the time the French had take over, slaves were to be punished by
having the master make them sleep in irons, but if they accepted their status, their condition was
ameliorated. As time passed, and as other markets became

Supreme Court Cases on Separation of Church and State Clauses
The United States of America was founded on the basis of religious freedom. Judgment on the legality
of the Separation of Church and State should not be based on one s religion. The phrase Separation of
church and state sometimes known as the wall of separation between church and state, is a phrase used
by Thomas Jefferson in understanding the two clauses of the First Amendment to the Constitution of
the United States: the Establishment Clause and the Free Exercise Clause. The Establishment Clause
is prohibits the government fro making any laws dealing with religion. As the second clause, The Free
Exercise Clause goes along with the Establishment clause stating that Congress cannot make any law

The American education system is one of the main places of controversy for the Separation of Church
and State. Almost every child in the United States attends some type of school, many of them public
systems. In such a school setting, these children are often exposed to the beliefs of their teachers and
administrators, as well as their own classmates. In Greece, New York, ever since 1999, the town board
has begun their monthly gatherings with prayer. Rev. Lou Sirianni begins his gathering by stating: Be
thou present, O God of wisdom, and direct the councils of this honorable assembly, the prayer ended,
All this we ask in the name and through the merits of Jesus Christ, Thy Son and our Savior (Wolf 1).
Recently in 2007, two residents who regularly attended board meetings, Susan Galloway and Linda
Stephens, complained that the prayers were promoting more of a Christian community than any other
religion (Masci 3). Although separation of church and state is stated briefly in the First Amendment,
these two ladies had the right to go after the town for not allowing a freedom of religion and for most
importantly throwing religion into a government owned school function. The case was brought to the
Supreme Court in 2007 and is still under debate, with a result hopefully by the end of June 2014. The
question is whether or not this prayer is allowed at a school function. Not everyone is willing to put

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a program that employed millions of young, unmarried
men on environmental projects during the Great Depression from 1933 1942. The CCC was one of
FDR s most popular and most successful New Deal programs. It employed 300,000 men that helped
plant over three billion trees, constructed nature trails in more than 800 parks around the United

arrested for trespassing on railroad property. A lot of men and women were arrested for petty crimes,
and many were sent to the CCC to get them off of the streets and to give people something to do.
According to ccclegacy.com, one Chicago judge felt the CCC was largely responsible for the large
reduction in crime. The CCC gave young men a job, taught them skills, and provided them with a lot
of benefits. It gave them a sense of self worth and value as they helped their families, it helped the

Descriptive Essay On The Ocean Of Death
Ocean of Death
The morning started with my mom and me loading up the car to go for a trip to the famous Florida
getaway destination, Panama City Beach. By looking at my mom s face I could tell she was ready to
get the drive over with. Anyone who knows my mom knows she hates driving, so the fact that she had
a 13 yr. old who was about to go to a beach in the U.S.A for the first time, only made it worse. An
hour into the ride my excitement wore off and I fell asleep. I got woken up by what sounded like a
nuclear bomb. The clear blue sky that I left before my nap, now looked like ink spilled from a bottle.
It was as in we were at war with the weather, and their weapons were nuclear bombs and bullets of
rain. (No, this isn t the part where I almost die.) Since we had to drive slower than a tortoise due to the
war, it took us an extra 3 hours to get there. When we finally got to the hotel, we agreed to get some
rest, to get ready for the next day. I woke up the next morning and looked outside, to my surprise the
sky was as clear as day; it gave me some hope that this vacation was still going to be amazing. As fast
as lightning, I showered, got dressed, and waited for my mom to wake up. An hour of waiting and
watching her felt like 100 years. When she finally woke up, we made our way down to the beach.
When we finally got there, I took my sandals on and put my feet in the sand. It felt very hot, but at the
same time, it was as soft as a pillow. Once my feet started to burn I dashed to the shore, where I found
sharp shells in the sand poking my feet, but at least the sand wasn t hot anymore. My mom was busy
trying to have a conversation with the cute lifeguard. I went and played volleyball with some kids my
age instead. Time went by so fast before I knew it, it was 3 pm. I walked over to my mom to get some
rest and relax. She had given up on the lifeguard and was now sitting in a chair close to the ocean,
having a conversation with a couple in their mid forties. This wasn t horrifying to watch, it was just
boring. I jumped up and asked her if she wanted to go jump the waves with me. I loved pools, so how
different could the ocean be. While we were walking in I saw a red flag go up nearby. I chose to
ignore it

Jan Van Eyck s Arnolfini Double Portrait
In the article Sexuality and Social Standing In Jan van Eyck s Arnolfini Double Portrait the author
analyzes the religious and social grammars of marriage. This short paper will be a reflection of
Harbison s article that discusses religious and marital norms throughout, with also analyzing various
sections of van Eyck s piece, for example: implying the piece as a marriage document or contract of
the marriage, which immediately makes the viewer look deeper into the double portrait. All of this
helped me realize that pieces of art are not simply pictures, rather they are narratives like a scene in a
documentary. The author starts the article with a clear thesis of analyzing the social religious and
marital norms when this piece was made. There are different scenes of this portrait that van Eyck s
uses throughout to identify social standards of the time this piece was done. The fruit is there to
identify the intimacy of marriage. The dog and gargoyles also represent various implications of
religiosities. Going in enormous detail of what everything means. The gargoyles are there to display

that this statement was hugely important because it changes the entire dynamic of the conclusion.
From that point on it is implied that the author has an open mind of the piece at hand, while it does
show a lot of religious and marital grammars it may also have been an edit of the director (artist) of
this piece to examine how he wanted to tell this families

The Theme Of Adoption In Worse By Christopher Marlowe
A flock of sheep wanders as the all seeing shepherd meanders nearby. He watches them closely as
they consume their daily vittles provided by nature, making sure not even one sheep goes astray, or
that any predator comes to disrupt the supposed bliss. The shepherd s love for his flock is that of
presumed perfection. He maintains the assumption that as long as he guards the flock and provides
ample grazing land, the flock will provide him with copious amounts of wool: that their relationship
will be all right. Unfortunately, this simply may not be true; his flock can produce the wool or it may
suffer from an unexpected disease or any other ailment and their presumed relationship will fail. As
Christopher Marlowe so elegantly presented in The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the novel Hata does not truly need love in the sense of modern terms, he needs success
and to make his lineage proud. Hata believes that women s roles are that of sheep to provide for men
when provided for but to his dismay, this is simply not true. Chang rae Lee captures this perfectly;
never before would a woman such as Kkutaeh, Sunny, or Mary ever deny the shepherdship of a
strong, successful man. With the power shift in gender throughout modern history, women have
gained much more power and have more ability to be their own shepherd than ever before. No longer
will a man like Jiro Kurohata be able to have a successful flock of heirs if he does not adapt to how
women have changed. Women today are much stronger than their ancestors of sheep, they no longer
accept protection in exchange for their wool. Doc Hata s quixotic promises will appeal to primal side
of women, but since human relationships have developed into being much more than just the need of
protection, his promises prove to be insufficient in sufficing his loves with their true needs: a person
who will provide them a deeper emotional understanding and not just a gesture

economies to this day.1 The United States of Europe was the first of many attempts at a stable
economic system before the creation of The European Community.1 The next experimental economic
system was a Council of Europe. Ten delegates, representing the ten countries in Europe, met in
Strasbourg France in 1949 with the confidence that it would become a dominant ... Show more content

The only institutions that are permitted to perform the tasks entrusted to the European Community are
A European Parliament, a Council, a Commission, a Court of Justice and a Court of Auditors.1 In the
Parliament members took seats not by nation, but by party affiliation. They had limited legislative
authority but they supervised the European Commission and the budget. The Parliament also kept the
idea of unity alive. Unity was the main reason that all of these communities were formed in the first
place. The final decisions rested with the Council of Ministers representing each of the member
countries. Their decisions on very important matters had to be unanimous. Another important aspect
of the Community was the Court of Justice, it gave the whole Community a sense of federalism.1
Although the combination of the three communities to make a seemingly unstoppable larger
Community sounds perfect, Great Britain initially refrained from joining The Common Market. Great
Britain depended on low priced food imports, had economic ties to the Commonwealth and was
unable to accept and supranational authority. Eventually, Great Britain tried to join the European
Community after realizing how their economy was significantly lagging behind. Their request was
vetoed by President de Gaulle because of

The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World
Annotations for: The Statue of Liberty:
1. The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World : was a gift of friendship from the people of France to
the United States and is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy.
2. Treaty of Peace at Versailles : refers to The Peace of Paris (1783), a set of treaties which ended the
American Revolutionary War. In September 1783, King George III of Great Britain signed a treaty in
Paris with the United States known as the Treaty of Paris (1783) and two treaties at Versailles with
King Louis XVI of France and King Charles III of Spain known as the Treaties of Versailles (1783).
3. Lafayette: During the American Revolution, French military man Marquis de La Fayette served
under George Washington as a Major General in the Continental Army.
The first article that I examined from Harper s Weekly was titled The Statue of Liberty. The Statue of
Liberty was a gift to the United States from the people of France. In the early 1880s, French citizens
raised money to present to the United States Liberty Enlightening the World, the immense sculpture
by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi . (Edwards 90.) It is important to note that gift was not from the French
government. It was a gesture of friendship from its citizens and I feel symbolized the stature, in France
s eyes, that America had achieved in the world during the Gilded Age. The Harper s article discusses
the dedication on October 28, 1886 of the statue of Liberty Enlightening

Analyzing The Statue Of Liberty
I selected the Statue of Liberty as my ideal piece of architecture for this building essay because of its
symbolic and historical background which makes it quite an iconic sculpture. A symbol represents an
idea; the iconic structure stands in the Upper New York Bay as a symbol of freedom not only in
America but universally. The universal notion of liberty is represented on the crown of the statue. On
the crown, the seven spikes represent the seven continents and the seven oceans in the world.
Originally, the statue was envisaged as an emblem of friendship between the United States of America
and the people of France. It signified the mutual desire for liberty between the two nations. However,
the Statue of Liberty has become much more as its

Rip Can Not Find Dame Van Winkle
Our story returns with Rip Van Winkle waking from his, unbeknownst to him, twenty year long sleep.
Angered by the disappearance of his gun and Wolf, he decides to return to the ninepin amphitheater
but does not find the dwarfish men. Rip decides to return to his small village. Along the way, he meets
strangers who stare at him; thus, he discovers that his beard has grown a foot long. Rip then discovers
how his small village has grown; he does not recognize the new faces, and they do not recognize him.
Again, Rip blames the flagon for his confusion. Discovering his house in shambles, Rip cannot find
Dame Van Winkle. New additions to his town, like an American flag and a picture of George
Washington, confuse Rip. Wandering into an election, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1) QUOTE: He assured the company that it was a fact handed down from his ancestor the historian
that the Catskill Mountains had always been haunted by strange beings. That it was affirmed that the
great Hendrick Hudson, the first discoverer of the river and country, kept a kind of vigil there every
twenty years, with his crew of the Half Moon being permitted in this way to revisit the scenes of his
enterprise, and keep a guardian eye upon the river, and the great city called by his name.
STORY CONTEXT: After Rip has told his story, the villagers go to the oldest man in the village, Peter
Vanderdonk, for his opinion. Vanderdonk assures them that the Kaatskill mountains are, infact,
haunted by strange beings rumored to be the discoverer Hendrick Hudson.
ROMANTIC ELEMENT PRESENT: Finds inspiration in myth, legend, and folk culture.
EXPLANATION OF HOW ELEMENT IS SHOWN IN THE QUOTE: Rip s story finds much
inspiration in the legend of Hendrick Hudson and his vigil in the Kaatskill mountains. Both the story
and the legend overlap with the strangely clothed men, the peals of thunder, and the ninepin game.
2) QUOTE: Poor Rip was at last reduced almost to despair; and his only alternative to escape from the
labor of the farm and clamor of his wife, was to take gun in hand and stroll away into the woods. Here
he would sometimes seat himself at the foot of a tree, and share the contents of his wallet with Wolf,

Student Loan System For College Students
Student Loan System Throughout the ages, society has evolved to overcome the challenges it faces
from one generation to the next, by learning and advancing further than the previous ones. It has
undergone a vast number of changes; however, mankind has never undermined the importance and
necessity of a complex and well educated society. Moreover, it is the duty of each one of us to make
sure that the next generation takes a step further than the previous one. With this in mind, society has
understood the importance of higher education for the future. Yet, the hesitation we witness today to
pursue a degree is due to the high cost of student loans. Truly this is a terrifying thing which cannot be
ignored, as it has a direct impact on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first place, the interest rates have been rigged to increase dramatically in a very short period of
time. The interest on the student loans has increased substantially resulting in huge debts for the
outgoing graduate. These rates have skyrocketed, The average student loan debt was $18,550 in 2004;
this figure has doubled over the decade and now represents a 56% increase compared to the previous
decade and we are fully aware that paying off such a debt would take a lifetime and is very difficult
(End The Debt). This has begun giving graduate students the feeling of a never ending debt. Due to
this, there are a huge number of high school students who are re considering a college degree, even
though they are fully aware of the necessity of qualification for many jobs.
An interesting fact is how the student loan system has made a conscious effort to incorporate
international students to finance their full time MBA degrees. An example of this would be, The
Simon Business School at the University of Rochester in New York is offering a student loan program,
with student loans ranging from $1,000 to the full cost of tuition this is a very useful benefit to
international students (Other News).
However, it has become extremely complicated for Muslim students to even access these student loans
as Muslim students cannot claim a student loan mainly due to their religious belief that prevent them

Analysis of Richard Kenney s Aubade Essay
An aubade is a poem that greets the dawn and characteristically involves the parting of lovers. This
particular aubade describes an everyday morning in the life of the speaker, who seems to be going to
work or has some other task which requires him to be up at five o clock. Its so early in the morning
that it is still dark outside, and he can see the stars and the moon still bright in the sky. The
temperature outside is freezing, which contributes much to the way he describes things in the poem.
This is a very lyrical poem. The speaker s emotions and intentions are made very clear in very
inconspicuous ways. The subtle repetition of certain words and images give the poem a very distinct
tone. For example, the repetition of the words ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The arc has to do with the book s idea of eternal return, Nietzsche s ideas of the eternal recurrence of
time. However, although Kundera is a South Asian writer, the pick up truck and the icebox suggest a
very American setting. In many ways, this poem is unusual in its subject. It deters in several ways
from a typical aubade, such as Donne s The Sun Rising or the internal aubade introducing the bird
narrator in Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde. For this poem, it is important to note that rather than
detailing the parting of lovers, this poem addresses a parting which has already taken place. The
speaker is likely driving away from his love, having left her, and imagining her still asleep. The last
line of the poem has a certain intimacy to it, that even though they are apart, in the speaker s mind
they are still joined by this moment, as he seems to have an awareness or thoughtfulness regarding
what she is doing as he moves further away. Also, the speaker in an aubade is usually discontented
that he has to leave his love; this speaker is somehow consoled by the knowledge that a parting is
never really a parting (his driving off is somehow symbolic of this.) It is also interesting to note that
this aubade doesn t greet the sun; rather it mentions the moon instead. This poem also uses many
symbolic images. Many of the parts of the car which he describes utilize poetic devices and contribute
to the poem s theme. The spark and arc is an interesting use of

Wells Fargo Phantom Accounts Scandal
Wells Fargo has taken a lot of heat during its recent scandal. Regulatory and media authorities have
openly criticized the bank s unethical sales practices and stressful sales driven culture. While majority
of the blame has been placed on the bank s employees, nevertheless it is important to realize and
understand the role of larger forces behind the bank s actions. Wells Fargo s fraudulent and negligent
behavior has not only stressed employees and grieved customers, but also damaged its organizational
reputation and incurred financial costs.

CEO of Wells Fargo, John Stumpf, defends the bank by claiming that the scandal resulted ... Show

However, she later found out that Wells Fargo had already opened phantom accounts in her name
since January 2012. She landed up with seven accounts, opened with fake signatures and Social
Security numbers (Hiltzik).
Employees Ideal Response. Whenever employees are forced to do something illegal or immoral, the
ideal reaction is to refuse, even at the risk of job loss. In extreme cases, employees can blow the
whistle and involve authorities. However, it is very easy to propose whistleblowing in theory, but it
requires a lot of courage to do so in reality.
Reaction of Wells Fargo towards Ideal Response. Employees at Wells Fargo, who tried to report
unethical sales practices to the bank s ethics hotline, to branch managers or senior executives, soon
found themselves jobless. Managers either created a false paper trail as proof of the poor performance
of the whistleblowing employee or simply fired him without reason (Lynch).

very hardworking people. Many immigrants are living in fear due to being illegal because they are
afraid of getting deported. Especially now, due to some of the deportations that have been happening
recently. According to usatoday.com employers are reporting difficulties with workers uneasy about
coming to work. It also says that business with a large amount of Latino customers have noticed a
drop in sales because they are avoiding public places. Many immigrants are saving money just in case
they are deported and are also lining up friends and family to pick up kids from school just in case
they are taken during the middle of the day. It s hard to live life in fear because then you re not living,

  • 4. The Ottoman Empire and Judaism The reason the Jews went to the Ottoman Empire was because the Christians persecuted them because of their different beliefs. The Jews were so scared of what the Christians might do they wanted to settle in a safer place which the Ottomans offered them. The Ottomans offering them land was the best thing the Jews could have asked for. The Ottomans offered the Jews protection, offered them communal autonomy and tolerated their religious practices. The Ottomans at the time had a rule about non Muslims having to pay a tax, which is called the Jitza. The Muslims considered Jews and Christians dhimmi or the people of the pact. The dhimmi we issued to pay the jitza, and where forced to follow these rules; prohibition against carrying fire arms, against riding horses, against building new houses or worship or even repairing old ones, against proselytism, against building homes higher than Muslim ones, and they must wear distinctive clothing. Even after all of these rules the Jewish community still thrived in the Ottoman Empire. The population of Jews in the Ottoman Empire was very distinct and was coming from different places. The most noticeable and most studied among the Jews in the Ottoman Empire were the Sephardim. The Sephardim had great political and cultural influence on the Ottoman Empire. • 5. Homework in Moderation is Good Essays Did you know that homework is one of the greatest causes of student dropouts and failing? Homework has been a major debate across America ever since the beginning of the twentieth century. At first, homework was seen as a muscle that could be trained by learning and people enjoyed that learning could be done at home. This enthusiastic spirit did not last for long because in the forties, Professor H. J. Otto explained that, Compulsory homework does not result in sufficiently improved academic accomplishment (Otto 380). In the 1950s, with the launch of Sputnik, the United States feared that Russia would dominate the world in technology if homework continued to be unnecessary to complete. In order for students to solidify their core understanding of certain topics, homework must be used because it allows students to recall what they have learned outside of school and learning skills can be improved. For example, Harris Cooper summarizes many of the positive outcomes that homework has on a student s life. Cooper categorizes these outcomes into four different sections: immediate achievement and learning, long term academic benefits, nonacademic benefits, and greater parental appreciation of and involvement in school. Under the first section, Cooper explains that one s learning can progress rapidly because there will be an increased understanding, better critical thinking, greater concept formation, information processing, curriculum enrichment, and better retention of factual knowledge for a student in the learning process. In terms of long term academic benefits, homework allows students to learn anything they want in their leisure time, an improved attitude toward school can be observed, and new study habits can be formed to finish homework can classwork in more efficient timing. However, Cooper s third category is considered one of the more important ones because it shows how homework is not only limited in the life of an academic enthusiast, but also for others, who do not focus on studying academic related subjects. Less educated nurses are so content driven, that they cannot guide their nursing care beyond what is text book or has been taught in school. The following is an example of the above: Mr. Doe has just been admitted to your floor for the third time in two months. He is a brittle diabetic and each admission he comes in with ketoacidosis. An ADN would treat them per protocol and doctor s orders. In three days he is discharged with hopes he won t be back again within a week. Take the BSN and give them the same patient/scenario. • 9. Religious Conflict Of Dante s Inferno Jessica Gay World Literature Dr. Schott 9 November 2014 Religious Conflict in Dante s Inferno Critics Daniel Tompsett and Donald Winchester and literary scholar Nicole Rudick have argued that Dante s Inferno is a dark and hopeless telling of how we are all relegated to sin and lack the will or righteousness to turn from sin and temptation. Tompsett and Winchester state that, The placement of living figures in each section was a judgment and a condemnation, albeit subjective, on both history and the people he knew (Tompsett). They both agree that Dante is painting a picture of the dredges of society and the torture that they must endure as a result of their inability to turn from sin. They also quote scholar David H. Higgins to say that Dante arguably believed he was writing a gospel to convert his recalcitrant age (Tompsett). Scholar and critic Nicole Rudick confirms this portrayal of dismal hopelessness with her comment, Dante created a rigid view of good and evil, showing no mercy for those who did not repent during their lifetimes and sparing no one in his accounting of misdeeds, vice, immorality, and generally inappropriate comportment (Rudick 29). It is my opinion that the aforementioned scholars and critics are missing Dante s point. When I read the poem I am overcome with quite the opposite view. I believe that a better way to interpret Dante s poem is to consider that he was asking each of us to reflect on our waywardness and sin and to come to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will compare and contrast Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs and Lisbeth Salander from The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo to explore two women that are progressive in breaking through traditional gender roles and are successful at portraying a female that goes against the grain. These women portray unique and progressive ideas about sexuality. Clarice and Lisbeth are two empowered females that are successful as detectives. Usually, a female in the center of detective film is misguided or taken advantage of because of the lack over control over their emotions. However, Clarice and Lisabeth are two examples of women that embrace their femininity in order to get closer to the killer. This paper will examine Clarice and Lisabeth from a post feminist perspective to prove that these detectives are progressive in their roles. Mulvey suggests that women are passive objects on screen that are meant to be enjoyed and looked at at by the active male. Clarice and Slander can be seen as objects when critiquing it with just Mulveys theory, however when looked at from a post feminist view it is clear that these women are intelligent in their roles as detectives, and they use their sexuality to help them excel in their careers. Compensation Systems Compensation systems can take on many forms, all of which have positives and negatives related to it. However, certain components are noted to be determinants of solid compensation plans. One agreement of a solid compensation system is the use of incentives. Clearly a successful companies set objectives that will provide incentives to increase profitability (Needles amp; Powers, 2011). Incentive bonuses should be measures that the company finds important to long term growth. According to Needles amp; Powers (2011) the most successful companies long term focused on profitability measures. For large for profit firms, compensation programs should offer stock options. The interweaving between the market value of a company s stock and company s performance both motivate and increase compensation to employees As the market value of the stock goes up, the difference between the option price and the market price grows, which increases the amount of compensation (Needles amp; Powers, 2011). Conclusively, a compensation plan should serve all stakeholders, be simple, group employees properly, reflect company culture and values, and be flexible (Davis amp; Hardy, 1999; The Basics of a Compensation Program). • 20. Argumentative Essay On The War On Drugs There are many significant moments throughout American history that formed the United States. Unfortunately, not all historical moments are positive, such as the War on Drugs, but we must not forget our preceding in order to progress our nation s future. While the War on Drugs has emerged, it has damaged American far beyond what it has attempted to assist, to this day we continue to feel its harmful effects. We must not overlook the imperative history that lead to the War on Drugs, the underlying consequences of the War on Drugs, how it has affected American law and society, and the reform of the War on Drugs. As we continue to attempt to improve our country, we must not continue to make parallel mistakes with the repercussion of the War on Drugs as they come with many dire consequences brought upon this country. The history of the War on Drugs has come an extensive way as it began in the 1960s and continues to this day. As the Republican Party were in favor of strict drug laws, they became in favor of Nixon s policies. On July 14th, 1969 President Nixon announced to the public that the War on Drugs was a serious nationwide threat to our country with the abuse of drugs and criminal behavior developing into street crime. The transaction is cryptographically signed to transfer the amount from one individual to another. At the same time these transactions are irreversible. This is similar to the no charge back risk that is found with credit cards. All Bitcoin transactions require a third party mediation: a global peer to peer network of participants validates and certifies all transactions (Meiklejohn, et al., 2016). This decentralization entails each transaction of the entire system to be stored by each individual who uses Bitcoins. • 22. The Four Concepts Of Symbolic Interactionism Symbolic interactions are a major part of how we socialize with others. It happens every day without us even realizing it. There are many concepts that assist in the formation of symbolic interactions, but to better understand them, we need to apply them to social settings. The four concepts of social interactionism theory I chose to observe at the social settings of my choosing were; definition of situation, symbols, front regions, and role playing. These concepts often interrelate as they all are a part of each other. To better understand these concepts, they were applied to two different social settings which were the bar and mass at the Catholic church. The concepts will be defined and reviewed in the order above. When we refer to definition of situation, we are referring to what the entrance of the social setting encompasses. We look at what are the norms, the rules, and what is acceptable in that setting. For example, when I was entering the bar, there were people outside smoking. To be able to walk through the front doors, there was a man who one had to give an ID to so he could check the age to allow the person to get in. When I walked through the doors, there were people sitting at tables in groups of three to five people on the left who would look to see who was entering the bar. On the right side of the bar, there were four people playing foosball and two people at each pool table. As I continued to the back, there were people sitting at the bar visiting. ... • 24. The Panama Canal Introduction The Panama Canal has become famous all over the world for being one of the most successful canals ever built, however, when it was first built many people thought that it was a mistake. During the building of the canal, there were many problems and scandals that had to be taken care of before the canal was up and running. Despite the problems during the construction of the canal, after construction the canal greatly aided the economic growth of the United States in the early twentieth century. In spite of the success of the canal and the seemingly positive impacts it had on the growth and development of the U.S., some historians still believe that the construction of the Panama Canal was not a good economic decision for the United States to make. The Panama Canal had a positive effect on the U.S. economy because of the time saved by traveling through the canal, the money saved from building the canal, and the growth of the U.S. economy as a whole as a result of the construction of the canal. Construction of the canal Leaders in both Central America and the U.S supported the building of the canal. Both the Nicaraguan and Costa Rican presidents were happy with the building of the Panama Canal. These leaders thought that the canal would help bring economic prosperity to Central America, as well as the United States. This helped the U.S. get approval from most of Central America to start the construction of the canal. The New Panama Canal Company, the company that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Introduction Of Mapreduce Programming Model Introduction to MapReduce Programming Model MapReduce is a programming model and an associated implementation for processing and generating large data sets with a parallel, distributed algorithm on a cluster [1]. Before the introduction of MapReduce, biggest challenge in front of Google was processing large input data and distributed computations. There was no solution for parallelizing the computations, distributing the data, and handling failures. In order to solve these problems, Google introduced the concept of MapReduce for parallel computation in a distributed system for synthesizing large datasets. MapReduce programming paradigm is similar to the concept of map and reduce primitives which are present in Lisp and many other functional languages. The input to a MapReduce program is a (key, value) pair. The output is a set of (key, value) pairs. There are two main functions, a map function and a reduce function. Map function takes an input (key, value) pair and produces a set of intermediate (key, value) pairs. The MapReduce library looks for all the values of one key and groups them together. These are then passed to reduce function. The reduce function gets an intermediate key and all the values associated with it and merges these values together to form a possibly smaller set of values. The original implementation of MapReduce was done by Google but now other companies are using their own implementation of MapReduce. For example, Amazon s Amazon Elastic ... Slavery And Colonial Rule During Colonialism Slavery and Colonial Rule During the years of European colonialism in Africa, slavery was used as the main source of labor for various colonial projects. Slaves worked on various levels of service to the colonial powers, especially the French. These include working on plantations and military service. Even though the French and the British were profiting from the labor and oppression of Africans, they soon faced opposition for their use of slavery as a tool for economic gain. In this essay, I will explain these elements of slavery in colonial rule, by detailing information from Martin Klein s Slavery and Colonial Rule in French West Africa, and Trevor Getz s Slavery and Reform in West Africa. Klein discusses the status of the slave and the history of mistreatment by Europeans. He focuses on the time when the Portuguese came to Senegambia during the 1600s. It was during this time that slave labor was being used to feed the courts of coastal kings as it was used in the medieval empires of the interior. These slaves were enemy combatants, who were captured and sentenced to work as punishment. The author mentioned that slaves during this period did not have rights or an official identity. Many of them faced many forms of persecution and mistreatment. By the time the French had take over, slaves were to be punished by having the master make them sleep in irons, but if they accepted their status, their condition was ameliorated. By looking at my mom s face I could tell she was ready to get the drive over with. Anyone who knows my mom knows she hates driving, so the fact that she had a 13 yr. old who was about to go to a beach in the U.S.A for the first time, only made it worse. An hour into the ride my excitement wore off and I fell asleep. I got woken up by what sounded like a nuclear bomb. The clear blue sky that I left before my nap, now looked like ink spilled from a bottle. It was as in we were at war with the weather, and their weapons were nuclear bombs and bullets of rain. (No, this isn t the part where I almost die.) Since we had to drive slower than a tortoise due to the war, it took us an extra 3 hours to get there. When we finally got to the hotel, we agreed to get some rest, to get ready for the next day. I woke up the next morning and looked outside, to my surprise the sky was as clear as day; it gave me some hope that this vacation was still going to be amazing. As fast as lightning, I showered, got dressed, and waited for my mom to wake up. An hour of waiting and watching her felt like 100 years. When she finally woke up, we made our way down to the beach. When we finally got there, I took my sandals on and put my feet in the sand. It felt very hot, but at the same time, it was as soft as a pillow. Once my feet started to burn I dashed to the shore, where I found sharp shells in the sand poking my feet, but at least the sand wasn t hot anymore. My mom was busy trying to have a conversation with the cute lifeguard. I went and played volleyball with some kids my age instead. Time went by so fast before I knew it, it was 3 pm. I walked over to my mom to get some rest and relax. She had given up on the lifeguard and was now sitting in a chair close to the ocean, having a conversation with a couple in their mid forties. Unfortunately, this simply may not be true; his flock can produce the wool or it may suffer from an unexpected disease or any other ailment and their presumed relationship will fail. As Christopher Marlowe so elegantly presented in The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the novel Hata does not truly need love in the sense of modern terms, he needs success and to make his lineage proud. Hata believes that women s roles are that of sheep to provide for men when provided for but to his dismay, this is simply not true. Chang rae Lee captures this perfectly; never before would a woman such as Kkutaeh, Sunny, or Mary ever deny the shepherdship of a strong, successful man. With the power shift in gender throughout modern history, women have gained much more power and have more ability to be their own shepherd than ever before. No longer will a man like Jiro Kurohata be able to have a successful flock of heirs if he does not adapt to how women have changed. Women today are much stronger than their ancestors of sheep, they no longer accept protection in exchange for their wool. Doc Hata s quixotic promises will appeal to primal side of women, but since human relationships have developed into being much more than just the need of protection, his promises prove to be insufficient in sufficing his loves with their true needs: a person who will provide them a deeper emotional understanding and not just a gesture ... • 42. 19th Century European Economic System During the nineteenth century, Europe had a difficult time creating a stable economic system. Through trial and error they created The Common Market, which lead to the creation of The European Atomic Community and The European Coal and Steel Community. These three economic systems make up The European Community. The European Community has given Europe one of the most thriving economies to this day.1 The United States of Europe was the first of many attempts at a stable economic system before the creation of The European Community.1 The next experimental economic system was a Council of Europe. Ten delegates, representing the ten countries in Europe, met in Strasbourg France in 1949 with the confidence that it would become a dominant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only institutions that are permitted to perform the tasks entrusted to the European Community are A European Parliament, a Council, a Commission, a Court of Justice and a Court of Auditors.1 In the Parliament members took seats not by nation, but by party affiliation. They had limited legislative authority but they supervised the European Commission and the budget. The Parliament also kept the idea of unity alive. Unity was the main reason that all of these communities were formed in the first place. The final decisions rested with the Council of Ministers representing each of the member countries. Their decisions on very important matters had to be unanimous. Another important aspect of the Community was the Court of Justice, it gave the whole Community a sense of federalism.1 Although the combination of the three communities to make a seemingly unstoppable larger Community sounds perfect, Great Britain initially refrained from joining The Common Market. Great Britain depended on low priced food imports, had economic ties to the Commonwealth and was unable to accept and supranational authority. Eventually, Great Britain tried to join the European Community after realizing how their economy was significantly lagging behind. Their request was vetoed by President de Gaulle because of ... Treaty of Peace at Versailles : refers to The Peace of Paris (1783), a set of treaties which ended the American Revolutionary War. Lafayette: During the American Revolution, French military man Marquis de La Fayette served under George Washington as a Major General in the Continental Army. The first article that I examined from Harper s Weekly was titled The Statue of Liberty. The Statue of Liberty was a gift to the United States from the people of France. In the early 1880s, French citizens raised money to present to the United States Liberty Enlightening the World, the immense sculpture by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi . (Edwards 90.) It is important to note that gift was not from the French government. It was a gesture of friendship from its citizens and I feel symbolized the stature, in France s eyes, that America had achieved in the world during the Gilded Age. Analyzing The Statue Of Liberty I selected the Statue of Liberty as my ideal piece of architecture for this building essay because of its symbolic and historical background which makes it quite an iconic sculpture. A symbol represents an idea; the iconic structure stands in the Upper New York Bay as a symbol of freedom not only in America but universally. The universal notion of liberty is represented on the crown of the statue. On the crown, the seven spikes represent the seven continents and the seven oceans in the world. Originally, the statue was envisaged as an emblem of friendship between the United States of America and the people of France. It signified the mutual desire for liberty between the two nations. • 46. Rip Can Not Find Dame Van Winkle Our story returns with Rip Van Winkle waking from his, unbeknownst to him, twenty year long sleep. Angered by the disappearance of his gun and Wolf, he decides to return to the ninepin amphitheater but does not find the dwarfish men. Rip decides to return to his small village. Along the way, he meets strangers who stare at him; thus, he discovers that his beard has grown a foot long. Rip then discovers how his small village has grown; he does not recognize the new faces, and they do not recognize him. Again, Rip blames the flagon for his confusion. Discovering his house in shambles, Rip cannot find Dame Van Winkle. New additions to his town, like an American flag and a picture of George Washington, confuse Rip. Wandering into an election, ... That it was affirmed that the great Hendrick Hudson, the first discoverer of the river and country, kept a kind of vigil there every twenty years, with his crew of the Half Moon being permitted in this way to revisit the scenes of his enterprise, and keep a guardian eye upon the river, and the great city called by his name. STORY CONTEXT: After Rip has told his story, the villagers go to the oldest man in the village, Peter Vanderdonk, for his opinion. Vanderdonk assures them that the Kaatskill mountains are, infact, haunted by strange beings rumored to be the discoverer Hendrick Hudson. ROMANTIC ELEMENT PRESENT: Finds inspiration in myth, legend, and folk culture. EXPLANATION OF HOW ELEMENT IS SHOWN IN THE QUOTE: Rip s story finds much inspiration in the legend of Hendrick Hudson and his vigil in the Kaatskill mountains. Both the story and the legend overlap with the strangely clothed men, the peals of thunder, and the ninepin game. 2) QUOTE: Poor Rip was at last reduced almost to despair; and his only alternative to escape from the labor of the farm and clamor of his wife, was to take gun in hand and stroll away into the woods. Student Loan System For College Students Student Loan System Throughout the ages, society has evolved to overcome the challenges it faces from one generation to the next, by learning and advancing further than the previous ones. It has undergone a vast number of changes; however, mankind has never undermined the importance and necessity of a complex and well educated society. Moreover, it is the duty of each one of us to make sure that the next generation takes a step further than the previous one. With this in mind, society has understood the importance of higher education for the future. Yet, the hesitation we witness today to pursue a degree is due to the high cost of student loans. The interest on the student loans has increased substantially resulting in huge debts for the outgoing graduate. These rates have skyrocketed, The average student loan debt was $18,550 in 2004; this figure has doubled over the decade and now represents a 56% increase compared to the previous decade and we are fully aware that paying off such a debt would take a lifetime and is very difficult (End The Debt). This has begun giving graduate students the feeling of a never ending debt. Due to this, there are a huge number of high school students who are re considering a college degree, even though they are fully aware of the necessity of qualification for many jobs. An interesting fact is how the student loan system has made a conscious effort to incorporate international students to finance their full time MBA degrees. • 48. Analysis of Richard Kenney s Aubade Essay An aubade is a poem that greets the dawn and characteristically involves the parting of lovers. This particular aubade describes an everyday morning in the life of the speaker, who seems to be going to work or has some other task which requires him to be up at five o clock. Its so early in the morning that it is still dark outside, and he can see the stars and the moon still bright in the sky. The temperature outside is freezing, which contributes much to the way he describes things in the poem. This is a very lyrical poem. The speaker s emotions and intentions are made very clear in very inconspicuous ways. The subtle repetition of certain words and images give the poem a very distinct tone. For example, the repetition of the words ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The arc has to do with the book s idea of eternal return, Nietzsche s ideas of the eternal recurrence of time. However, although Kundera is a South Asian writer, the pick up truck and the icebox suggest a very American setting. In many ways, this poem is unusual in its subject. It deters in several ways from a typical aubade, such as Donne s The Sun Rising or the internal aubade introducing the bird narrator in Chaucer s Troilus and Criseyde. For this poem, it is important to note that rather than detailing the parting of lovers, this poem addresses a parting which has already taken place. The speaker is likely driving away from his love, having left her, and imagining her still asleep. The last line of the poem has a certain intimacy to it, that even though they are apart, in the speaker s mind they are still joined by this moment, as he seems to have an awareness or thoughtfulness regarding what she is doing as he moves further away. Also, the speaker in an aubade is usually discontented that he has to leave his love; this speaker is somehow consoled by the knowledge that a parting is never really a parting (his driving off is somehow symbolic of this.) It is also interesting to note that this aubade doesn t greet the sun; rather it mentions the moon instead. This poem also uses many symbolic images. Many of the parts of the car which he describes utilize poetic devices and contribute to the poem s theme. The spark and arc is an interesting use of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
