An Analysis Of Euripides The Suppliants
In The Suppliants, Euripides wrote, The people cannot form proper judgements and therefore cannot
rightly direct a state . Euripides is living in the midst of democracy in Athens; therefore his quote is a
critique of what is happening around him. In his quote, he is taking an anti democratic stance towards
the question of who is fit to rule. Euripides believes only one or few people should rule a state, as not
all are qualified or have the proper judgement to do so. However, people do rule the state, without
having to meet any arbitrary requirements to be fit to rule. The term proper judgement is highly
subjective and the notion that only a few have the ability to rule is simply paternalistic. The relative
success of ancient Athenian and contemporary Swiss direct democracy show that people do have the
ability to form proper judgments. It was Aristotle who once said man is a political animal , so it is in
human nature to be politically involved. In opposition, Plato describes the grave consequences of
placing the power into the one or the few in his ideal yet authoritarian state.
There are many issues with Euripides quote. Firstly, the term proper judgment is extremely abstract.
For instance, Machiavelli and Kant would have very different ideas on what proper judgment may be,
but both are thought to be notable political philosophers. The decisions rulers make will always be
criticized by one group of people, so it is difficult to say for certain if someone meets

The Effects Of Fitness Training On Vo2 Max And Vco2 Max

The Effects of Fitness Training on VO2 max and VCO2 Max
Abstract:
Mammals consume oxygen and produce carbon dioxide as part of their metabolism process in order to
maintain body functions. This occurs at all times, both rest and during intense work, within mammals.
During times of greater work, skeletal muscles work harder than they do at rest. This in turn increases
their metabolic rate and results in a greater demand for oxygen. It has been proposed that fitness
training has a positive effect on both the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, which effect the
maximum oxygen consumption rate during intense exercise periods. I hypothesize that individuals
who aerobically exercise a minimum of at least 7 hours per week will have increased fitness, which
will maximize their overall metabolic rates and give them higher VO2 max and VCO2 max values
than individuals who do not have increased fitness. Ten males having different fitness levels were put
on stationary bikes at increasing levels until exhaustion and VO2 max and VCO2 max was then
measured from each individual. It was found that there was a slight upward trend between fitness
VO2max and fitness VCO2max, although this trend was not statistically significant when represented
by the T test values through statistical analysis. Further experiments should be done in the future to
verify a statistically significant correlation.

The Suez Crisis and Sir Antony Eden
The Suez Crisis is often cited by some historians as one of the worst historical decisions that imprinted
an indelible mark on the then British premier Sir Antony Eden. More often than not the decision by
Eden to invade Egypt following a disagreement about nationalization of the Suez Canal is often cited
as a the worst foreign policy decision that destroyed Eden political career and humiliated British
empire in its wake. The decision by Eden to use military force against Nasser is often viewed by many
as arising from a personal grudge towards Nasser, while only a few defend the fact that Eden had
attempted to resolve the looming conflict peacefully.
A Brief Introduction about Sir Robert Antony Eden It is unfortunate that despite Sir Antony Eden
having successfully served as Britain for three decades as a foreign secretary and his subsequent rise
to become the British prime minister in 1955 was overshadowed by the 1956 Suez Crisis that saw him
tender his resignation after serving approximately 18 months in office. While justifying this action,
Eden cited that he was protecting British commercial interests of which the recent nationalization of
the Suez Canal by Nasser seemed to threaten. Eden strongly perceived Nasser as a dictator and that his
actions could easily be replicated with the actions of Hitler and Mussolini that subsequently ignited
World War.
Born to a baronet in County Durham on 12 June 1987, Antony Eden was educated at Eton and oxford
where he

Secrets In Romeo And Juliet
Secrets are essential to human social interaction. Whether we are being loyal to our friends or
sneaking out of the house, we ve all kept a few. Secrets are frequently mentioned in the infamous
Shakespearean play, Romeo and Juliet. Even the love of the two teenagers is kept a secret from their
respective families! However, some of these secrets contribute to the tearful deaths of Juliet and
Romeo. Sometimes, secrets should be told. Capulet and Montague secrets influence the play in one
way or another, yet it s known that they should ve been told. Sampson and Gregory, Capulet servants,
run across Montague servants in the town square. Is the law of our side, if I say ay? asks sampson.
Gregory responds No. Sampson, addressing the others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, while Romeo courts Juliet, he doesn t tell his friends where he is. Go then, for tis in vain
to seek him here that means not to be found (Shakespeare 2.1.44 45), said Benvolio as Mercutio and
he search for Romeo after the Capulet s party. They discuss whether they should continue looking for
him, but are discouraged and quit. Romeo hiding away and keeping his location a secret allowed him
to court Juliet and for them to fall in love. Not sharing his forbidden love gives Romeo the opportunity
to love her without consequences, at least for a while. He gets to be with his true love. However, this
stance isn t completely supported in Romeo and Juliet. When the Nurse discovers Juliet s sleeping yet
appeared dead body, she exclaims, Alas, Alas! Help, help! My lady s dead! (Shakespeare 4.5.15).
Nurse didn t know about the plan Juliet and Friar had to allow her to live happily live Romeo, leaving
her unaware about the sleeping potion that Juliet took. If Nurse knew about the plan, she wouldn t
have to mourn her beloved Juliet s death, though granted, she wasn t really dead yet. Regardless, if
Juliet had shared her scheme, Nurse wouldn t have had to mourn both Tybalt and Juliet. To finally
refute, Juliet s parents had just told her that she was to be married to County Paris. After they left, she
cried to Nurse, O god O Nurse, how shall this be prevented? My husband

Soundtrack Of Star Wars
Star Wars is one of those franchises that spans generations, and is beloved around the world. The
sights and sounds of Star Wars has prevailed throughout the decades, whether as nostalgia, or to
complain about the prequel trilogy. Star Wars has become ingrained in the part of society reserved for
pop culture references, memes, and wasted money on official (and not so official) merchandise.
Overall, every aspect, but particularly the sounds, of the Star Wars franchise is made to connect back
to the original trilogy. Despite being spread across decades and multiple facets of the franchise, the
familiar, continuing sounds of Star Wars is a way of retaining continuity, and nostalgia, as well as
identifying characters and themes. The scene chosen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sounds match the area and environments, as discussed in above paragraphs it is the robots and
technology that were created within the realm of the film s universe and genre that set the
environment. Aurally the sense of space is not similar to what is being visually portrayed in some
parts, particularly when characters are talking; there is no reverberation off of metal or plastic when
Obi Wan Kenobi is talking to Padmé in the spacious hospital room full of plastics and metal, he
sounds more like he is in a closed environment, and close to the microphone. Despite this the
soundscape is still used to effectively shape the environment seen on screen into a hallucination of a
fully real world, one is able to almost sense and touch within one s mind. Most evidently at the very
end scene when Darth Vader is overcome by anguish at the revelation that he killed Padmé. In that
part he loses his control over the Force and starts to destroy the robots and equipment still present in
the room after his surgery. One can hear the familiar sounds of bottles and glass being smashed, and
crinkles of cans

Relationship Between The Body And The City s Building
The symposium then explored the relationship between the body and the city s building in more depth
with Adam Greenhalgh s paper Body/Building: New York City around 1910. The associate curator of
the National Gallery of Art in Washington presented once more Manhattan as a living body, and his
interpretation of Excavations at night as an autopsy of the city conveys a powerful image of the city
being exposed and vulnerable like Miss Bentham. Mr Greenhalgh confessed that he tends to see the
grim side of Bellows, therefore his interpretation of his paintings does have a darker interpretation as
he desires to seek for a deeper and darker meaning than just the simple representation of a reality. His

Arguably Marin suffers the influences of the European futurists who are just emerging in Europe
during this period, which can imply that Bellows, like other Ashcanners and the French
Impressionists, did involuntarily start the concept of dynamism and its application in their paintings.
From the macabre description of New York and some of his inhabitants and the thermodynamic of
some of Bellows paintings, the symposium proceeded under a different note that still analysed the
body in relation to movement, in particular the female body in commercial art. Professor Jennifer
Greenhill presented her paper Commercial Illustration s Immaterial Bodies which focused on the
commercial artist Coles Phillips and this imagery for the mass press where design is vital to attract any
potential buyers. It was illuminating to discover this artist and some of his most characteristic works
created with a fade away technique where the body of women disappears in the background so
dematerialising their bodies. Prof Greenhill provided an excellent overview of the artist as well as his
technique and showed many eye catching images that are still incredibly powerful in terms of graphic
and design. Coles Phillips was a lawyer, a painter, but most importantly a graphic designer and his
preferred technique was the watercolour; his pictorial technique consists in

Similarities Between Western Europe And Byzantium
Western Europe had many differences and similarities with the Byzantium and Islamic Empires.
Western Europe, Byzantium, and Islamic Empire all have had their ups and their downs. The
differences between Western Europe and the Byzantium Empire started with their government and
their way of ruling. The first main difference between the two were their rulers. The Byzantine Empire
s ruler was an emperor, and they used a civil service system to rule their government. On the other
hand Western Europe did not have any centralized government until the middle ages. Western Europe
was divided into countries based on what language they spoke, while the Byzantium Empire did not
use this structure in their empire. Western Europe and the Byzantine Empire ... Show more content on

Western Europeans were Roman Catholics and the Islamic Empires were Muslims, followers of Islam.
In Islam they believe in only one god and are monotheistic, while Roman Catholics believe in more
than one god, so they are polytheistic. The Muslims followed a book called the Qur an, and the Roman
Catholics followed the Bible. Western Europe and the Islamic Empires may have had many
differences, but they also had many similarities. The Western Europeans got a revival of learning from
the Islamic Empires. The Muslims had libraries filled with works of Greek writers and philosophers.
They shared these works in libraries in Spain. This allowed scholars to translate the work into Latin,
so Western Europeans could understand it. These works allowed Europeans to acquire a huge body of
knowledge. They had more information on science and mathematics, thanks to the

The Challenge of Love
Some of the biggest challenges in relationships are rooted between the push and pull of give and take.
People tend to enter into relationships to gain something: they re trying to find someone who s going
to make them feel good. In reality, the only way love is true is if the relationship comes from a place
of giving.
For some love is primarily taking, for some love is primarily giving and for some it is more evenly a
matter of give take . A person driven by intense need often attempts to control the relationship, taking
to fulfill their personal needs. When the emphasis is on taking, love becomes very threatening. Love
takes on many forms, but true love is not one of power and control.

That said, in time when love failed his grand daughter Janine, Louis although inexpert in the gestures
of love (p.267) supported Janine in managing her own feelings of pain, betrayal, and abandonment
after her marriage ended.
Janine was able to see an honesty and openness in Lois that at times he didn t see in himself. Her
ability to see Louis for the man he was and not his actions was a demonstration of her true love and
devotion to him. Janine was acutely aware that her grand father was a terrible, even at times a dreadful
man (p.280) but she was able to accept him and his personal truth, without judgement. It was Louis s
influence alone in the end that entirely changed her way of looking at things (p. 280). To Janine, her
grand father was not man of power and control, but a man weighed down by a sense of unworthiness
(p.279), and for that she felt sad a partly responsible. Louis was a man who needed truth, to feel
worthy, loved, and to be free, something he was not able to be around his family his wife Isa and two
children. In the end Louis experienced love through Janine.
True to form through the last section of the book Louis aims criticism at Janine. To Louis his grand
daughter was weak (p. 254), she was a women incapable of receiving anything from another person
(p. 265), a person who thought so little (p. 256) about others. These qualities connected the two, as
Louis was much the same. Louis a

Hatshepsut s Accomplishments
For over 22 years, the most powerful man in all of ancient Egypt was, in fact, a woman. That woman
was Pharaoh Hatshepsut, one of the first female pharaohs in Egypt s long history. During her reign she
built great monuments both in Egypt and Nubia. Egypt also thrived while she ruled, proving that she
was a strong and powerful leader even though she was a woman instead of a man. Hatshepsut was an
amazing woman who had some incredible accomplishments.
Rising to Power
One of Hatshepsut s greatest accomplishments was simply becoming pharaoh as a woman. Since her
birth, Hatshepsut had always had some power. Her parents were Thutmose I and his main wife,
Ahmose, so she was part of the royal family (Ross). Then, she was married to her half brother,

The Basic Difference Between The Ancient And Modern...
The Olympic Games are an international sports festival that began in ancient Greece. The original
Greek games were staged every fourth year for several hundred years, until they were abolished in the
early Christian era. The revival of the Olympic Games took place in 1896, and since then they have
been staged every fourth year, except during World War I and World War II (1916, 1940, 1944).
Perhaps the basic difference between the ancient and modern Olympics is that the former was the
ancient Greeks way of saluting their gods, whereas the modern Games are a manner of saluting the
athletic talents of citizens of all nations. The original Olympics featured competition in music,
speeches, and theater performances as well. The modern Games have a more expansive athletic event

Corinthians 1 And 2 Summary
The Book of 1st Corinthians is letters written by Paul to the church in the city of Corinth. Paul sent
these letters as a response to a letter he received from the Corinthian Church. The city of Corinth was
a wealthy trading center located on the Mediterranean Sea. Corinth was a city known for its
wickedness. The people lived very sinful lives. The church consisted of converted idolaters,
adulterers, male prostitutes, thieves, drunkards and swindlers.(6:9 11)The new church in Corinth faced
tribulation because Christians struggled to act differently than the people around them. They were not
getting along with one another, and they were taking sides. This paper will examine the books of
Corinthians and the universal truth of love in the New Testament. Corinthians One and Two were
written to the church at Corinth and deal with the need to recognize and put sin out of our lives.

Lab Report On Hand Washing
Lab Report #1: Hand washing is it worth it?
Introduction:
This experiment illustrates the importance of handwashing and proves that hand washing is worth it.
Since our hands are constantly coming into contact with ourselves and others, touching surfaces,
grabbing objects, being sneezed into, etc., keeping our hands clean is one of the most effective, yet
simple way we can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others. Many diseases and
conditions are spread by not washing hands with soap and clean, running warm water. The human skin
is a host to anywhere between 10,000 10,000,000 bacteria per square centimeter and since health care
providers come into contact with pathogenic bacteria by being engaged in patient care, hand washing
can reduce the risk of spreading diseases (page 3). The objective of the experiment is to test the
effectiveness of hand washing and demonstrate normal flora. This report presents the procedures and
materials for the experiment, the experiment s results, and an analysis of those results.

CDA News has reported both on the open letter from Taylor Swift to Apple and the open leter

being unfair to recording artists by giving subscribers free access for three months and not pay
recording artists royalties. Seldon s letter is becoming a voice for photojournalism in the 21st century,
saying what so many photographers have faced during what is best described as a rights war with the

The Impact Of Debussy s Influence On The Works Of Richard...
In 1888, Debussy traveled to Bayreuth, hearing Parsifal and Meistersinger there, followed by Tristan
the next year. His trips to Bayreuth mark the beginning of Debussy s intentional shift away from
Wagner. Wagner s domination of the French musical society occurred gradually over a period of about
forty years. Elaine Brody writes that in the 1840s the French regarded Wagner as a madman; by the
1880s they had placed him on a pedestal. Debussy himself was became swept up in the fervor of
Wagnerism. While the Debussy heard Wagner s Tristan while in Rome, it was Parsifal that had the
biggest impact on the French composer. But despite the overwhelming support for Wagner s music,
Debussy returned from Bayreuth feeling that he needed to free himself from the German s influence;
he wanted to to develop a style that was characteristically French and free of German influences. ...

Debussy latched onto. Barbara Kelly described Debussy s concept of arabesque as an undulating

Gender Roles In The Chase By Annie Dillard
How much do gender roles mean to you? In the story, The Chase by Annie Dillard, a young girl,
Annie, grows up in a town where being a girl didn t affect how she grew up. When Annie was a child
she played football, baseball and threw snowballs with the boys. So as you can see being a girl in
Annie s neighborhood didn t affect her, but as everyone grows up, we all realize that gender roles
really do matter. We all probably grew up with boys and girls, but all places were different. One might
have grown up in a town where you weren t allowed to do certain things because you were a girl.
Otherwise, someone might have grown up in a town where nobody really cares about whether you
were a boy or a girl. Either way, throughout my childhood, rules and roles were all based on whether
you were a boy or a girl, and as I moved on through my life, I realized that those gender roles mean a
lot more as we grow older.
Annie Dillard grew up in a neighborhood, I would assume much like mine. Being a girl didn t matter,
having long hair and wearing dresses didn t matter to her, but one might have grown up in different
situation. When I was growing up, I had an older brother, Cameron, that is 10 years older than me. At
the age of 18 he went off into the USMC and me, as an 8 year old, didn t really realize how brave he
was. Cam spend 8 years in the Marines, and when he arrived home I realized how many boy AND

Tom Brennan Social Justice Quotes
The concept of social justice is based of human rights and equality, this is the way people are treated
in everyday life. The text I am currently studying is The story of Tom Brennan and I am seeing how
this has some aspects of social justice like alcohol abuse and property vandalism.
The story of Tom Brennan is a book about a nineteen year old boy named Tom Brennan who has his
life turned upside down because of a car crash that resulted in two deaths and one paralyzed. One
example of social justice in this book is the fact that Daniel was under the influence of alcohol whilst
driving, thus causing the car crash which affected the whole town and making the town angry against
the Brennan family, my second example is the fact that there was alcohol at the rugby after party, but I
personally believe it is one hundred percent ok with alcohol at the party, it just has to be their
responsibility that they have designated drivers to get others home safely. There is also alcohol itself,
that is the main cause of the car accident itself and that too just needs a ... Show more content on

connotative metaphor on page 165 by describing toms grans house and Tom s room as the cave . I
believe that a lot of aspects of social justice confirm my views on social justice, as it was only Daniels
fault for the whole thing and Daniel wasn t being responsible as he should have, unlike Tom, who

Renaissance And Scientific Revolution
The Renaissance and Scientific Revolution paved way to the beginning of the Enlightenment.
Different philosophers began to think rationally and using the scientific method to discover the world
around them, rather than believe what the Church told them to do. Instead of thinking religiously, they
took a more rational perspective on not only the world, but on how to effectively run society. They
were able to spread their ideals through various translations to reach a broader audience, and the
printing press allowed them to spread their works and ideas throughout the lands. Isaac Newton was a

today. Throughout my work experience and my university based education the concepts and theories
about the use and need for teams have been stressed. Personally, my position of the use of work teams,

incorporate the use of team based assignments. This would be demonstrated by every graduate school
class for which I have taken at Roosevelt University, in its Master s in Human Resource Management

a group project as the final project in all of these classes. In fact every class covered the need for
developing teams in the workplace. From my personal experience at Roosevelt University, I found
that about three out of approximately 5 members of a team did most of the work. Often several team
members would ride the coat tails of the other members. In an academic situation, one major problem
with development of teams is that some people are motivated by learning and by grades while others

response of the Persian Elders, the Queen Mother Atossa, a herald, King Xerxes, and the ghost of
Darius upon hearing the news of the Persian defeat at the Battle of Salamis against the Greeks. The
play began with a conversation amongst the Persians elders about their war with the Greeks. They
possessed grave trepidations because of a lack of news from the front. This fear stemmed from the
great risk King Xerxes took by calling all the heroes and soldiers of the Persian Empire to fight in
Greece. At first, they were confident of their victory, describing their forces as an unconquerable
ocean of men . However, their fear persisted of their forces decimation. Later on, the Queen Mother,
Atossa appeared before the Elders with an ominous vision. She acquired about the land and
personality of the Greeks while the Elders reassured her of their army s success. When Atossa was
about to leave to make sacrifices to the gods, a herald entered the palace with horrific news. The
Persian forces was decimated by the smaller Greek forces at the Salamis, almost all of their heroes
were dead, but Xerxes was still alive. Upon hearing the description of the battle s carnage, the Elders
and the Queen Mother broke out into agony and mourned the loss of their men at Salamis. The group
professes how the Persians were cursed with Black Fate , and the gods willed the victory of the
Greeks.

Hans Zimmer s Time From The Movie Inception
The work I selected is Hans Zimmer s Time from the movie Inception. The structure of Time is one of
suspenseful buildup. There is a simple theme that is introduced and as the song progresses, layers are
added. The conjunct melody becomes more disjunct as Time reaches its climax. Time also has great
dynamic contrast, starting with an eerie pianissimo and slowly building up until the climax where the
piece reaches a gripping fortississimo. Finally, because this piece is based on the concept of time, the
instrumentation reflects that concept. About every 30 seconds a new instrument enters. This constantly
changes the timbre of Time , allowing the listener s emotions to change as the song progresses.
Because of all of these elements, I decided that a light show would best display all of the extraordinary
components that Time has to offer. A quiet piano playing only in bass clef enters with low strings
(violoncello, contrabass, etc). The piano plays whole notes while the strings play barely audible
pulsing eighth notes. During these first 30 seconds white light (symbolizing the piano) surrounds the
set to display that the piano is what holds the theme. The white light syncs with the whole notes,
lasting for four beats before it fades out and fades back in again. Beneath the white light is a deep
purple, symbolizing the low strings. The dark purple is faded so one can barely see it, just like how
one must listen for the pulsating eighth notes. Like the white light, the

The Wizard Of Oz By Victor Fleming
Lions, and tigers, and bears, oh my! More like a disappointment, a disaster, a failure, and a complete
waste of my time. The 1939 MGM production of The Wizard of Oz, mainly directed by Victor
Fleming, is a horrendous motion picture based on the best seller, classic novel The Wonderful Wizard
of Oz, written by L. Frank Baum and illustrated by W. W. Denslow. But what makes MGM s
production sheer filth and putrefaction? The Wizard of Oz is a horrible movie because of innumerable
audio problems, terrible continuity editing skills, and copious cockamamie mistakes.
Primarily, The Wizard of Oz focuses on Dorothy (Judy Garland), a young, beautiful girl from Kansas,
who is taken, along with her dog Toto (Terry), to a dream land named Oz by a tornado. Suddenly,
Glinda (Billie Burke), the Good Witch of the North, materializes and explains all that has happened to
Dorothy. Dorothy obviously wishes to return home; however, the Wicked Witch of the West (Margaret
Hamilton) makes a astonishing appearance. Dorothy receives security from the Wicked Witch of the
West, from Glinda, in the form of ruby slippers. The Wicked Witch of the West leaves and Dorothy is
pushed along the yellow brick road, by Glinda, to uncover the Wizard of Oz and get his help to return
to Kansas. Through her journey, Dorothy overcomes an assortment of obstacles and meets a talking
scarecrow (Ray Bolger), a tin man (Jack Haley) and a cowardly lion (Bert Lahr). These characters are
also unsatisfied and join Dorothy on

Flannery O Connor s works are nothing short of extraordinary. They frequently step into the realm of
the extreme to make a statement or prove a point. The result is that her messages are stark and vivid,
and O Connor is able to make bold positions on controversial subjects. She achieves this effect
through a number of means, which consist primarily of Christian symbolism, character foils, and
literary irony. Combined, they create rich, intense environments in which radical events push and twist
characters. As a result of this stress, the characters are defined more clearly. In many instances, they
achieve a kind of self realization, and their revelations usually come with an ironic factor or
consequence. O Connor s stories, notably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though his mother is horrifically racist, Julian s thoughts reveal to the reader that he is no better

Negroid woman. Prepare yourself, he said, (10). The lengths Julian goes to degrade his mother say
more about him than they do about her. His criticism of her racism identifies him as a complete

stems from his flaws. Toward the end of the story, his mother attempts to give a coin to the child of a

Adapting
Throughout life, people change a great deal. In many novels, the characters change, they usually have
no idea that they are changing. The characters usually change in different ways. Multiple characters
might change by being ruthless and blackhearted, and then at the end, they are a happy and cheery
character. White Fang and Buck have changed an amazing amount. For example Buck changed from
being a happy, lovable character, to answering the call of the wild. White Fang, went from being a
ruthless, wild beast to a lovable, domesticated character. People could build up confidence and change
without the world ending. White Fang is an amazing novel written by Jack London. The main
character, White Fang, is a ferocious, ruthless wolf. At first, he is not allowed to go towards the wall
of light and when he does, he finds the answers to every one of his curious wishes. He starts out as a
curious little pup, then proceeds to be a curious pup until he meets his first human. When he gets taken
back to camp, Kiche comes to his rescue, but they get taken in instead. He started hunting with his
mother at a young age, and therefore he learned things quicker. He progressed with his mental age of
course, throughout the novel, and had to become an adult dog at a young age to protect his mother and
himself. His attitude toward children from the Indian camp to the time he became a part of Weedon
Scott s family, he went through many changes. At Weedon Scott s house, he knew

Fight Club In the book Fight Club, by Chuck Palahniuk, the narrator is an employee for a travelling

becomes addicted to support groups. After a flight home from a business trip, the narrator realizes that

This quote was said right before the narrator and Tyler engaged into a fight. This quote was the root of
the formation of fight club. This quote also states that the narrator is not independent and lost a form
of his power by listening to what Tyler had told him. The narrator had the option of being independent
by not hitting Tyler and engaging into a fight, but the power Tyler had over him was overbearing for
him to stop. Once the narrator asks Tyler to stay at his home, this is a defining moment of where Tyler
has more control of the narrator by letting him into his home. This moment also shows how the
narrator is losing power by moving into the house of the man that has control over him. The
Formation of Project Mayhem is an aspect of how the narrator is losing control by a political
organization created by Tyler. Project Mayhem is a secret organization that was formed by the Fight

care about the white collar working class and it is a war on civilization, consumerism and the world

angered him. Tyler had control over the narrator s power because Tyler is gaining control over the
narrator by creating groups without the narrator realizing. Another way of which Tyler has power over
everyone including the narrator is because he also made the rules and announces

Theme Of Depression In The Catcher In The Rye
1
One of the most common and detrimental psychiatric condition is depression. The state of depression
has substantial e ffects on a person s thoughts, behaviour and feelings. Depression entails an emotional
stigma which has overbearing feelings of despair and dejection. SigmundFreud encloses the
similarities between the roots of depression with the grief experienced bythose who lost a loved one.
(Comer, 2005). The author, J.D Salinger, highlights the destructiveimpacts of depression in his book,
The Catcher in the Rye about the depression experienced bythe protagonist, Holden Caulfield. Holden
Caulfield has endured the emotional pain of hisyounger brother, Allie
s death. Holden s teacher
Mr. Antolini, sets him up to understand hismisguided ways as he points out Holden s down fall. He
tries to instill the notion that Holdenmust ignore the corrupt society in order to fully experience

Mr. Antolini attempts to evolve Holden to prevent his great fall as he states
,
the mark of an immature man is he wants do die nobly for a cause, and whereas the mark of a mature
man is he wants to live humbly for one.
Holden understands his unrealistic approach to life, howeverbecomes clinically depressed in the

Women In The Cuban Revolution
When developing this proposal I wanted to look at the everyday life and struggles of women during
and after the Cuban Revolution. Looking at a lot of the sources available from the Cuban Revolution it
is clear to see that women played a crucial role in the revolution. But most of the secondary sources
that I have found surround three specific women, Haydée Santamaría, Celia Sanchez and Vilma Espín.
These revolutionaries played a crucial role in shaping the outcome of the Cuban Revolution while also
advancing feminism and gender equality. By looking specifically at these women I developed the
central question: how Haydée Santamaría, Celia Sanchez and Vilma Espin, able to shape the future of
women s lives in Cuba? Some other questions that helped ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I found these sources through the KU libraries. I used the search terms Haydée Santamaría, feminism
and Cuban Revolution. All of these books look at the strength and leadership of women during the
Cuban Revolution. These sources discuss how women were able to move from second class citizens to
having a real role in government. These are great tools in navigating the experience of the average
Cuban women while also looking at these figures of the revolution. Margaret Randall s book does a
great job of looking at the Revolution through an inspirational and powerful leader. Hadyée
Santamaría was a member of the resistance and was good friends with Fidel Castro. She endured the
deaths of her family so that Cuba could have a future away from the Batista regime. Her existence is
an example of the accessibility and mobility given to women to activate change. But does her role in
the resistance represent the average Cuban woman? Michelle Chase s book claims that there was a
revolution in the larger revolution that advocated for a shift in gender roles on an everyday level. Her
book really focuses on the heart of what I want my paper to be about. I want it to focus on the ability
for the revolution to help give people a larger voice and the women who made that possible. I will
need to find more first hand experiences and newspaper articles that will help me with understanding
the average woman and not just the educated activists. In Hadyée Santamaría s,

Napoleon s Reign Over Italy
Italy, as it is known today, has been in existence for less than one hundred fifty years. For several
centuries, Italy had been made up of separate states often ruled by foreign powers. In 1796, Napoleon
Bonaparte invaded and conquered the Italian peninsula. After falling under French rule, the peninsula
was divided into three parts: several northern states, which were annexed to France, the Kingdom of
Italy, of which Napoleon declared himself king in 1805, and the Kingdom of Naples in the south.
Napoleon and the French brought new ideas about society and governing with them. They also
brought the concepts of freedom and nationalism with them, which might have sparked Italy s later
attempts to achieve unity. Napoleon s reign over Italy crumbled with his defeat in 1814. Shortly after,
parts of Italy were distributed amongst other European countries, particularly Austria, and returned to
former rulers by the Congress of Vienna in 1815. Many people were unhappy with the actions of the
Congress and secret societies started to grow to oppose these rulers and promote the idea of a united
Italy. One of the secret societies set up in opposition to foreign rulers was called the Carbonari. This
nationalistic, revolutionary group started in Naples and spread northward. In 1820 they carried out a
successful revolution in Naples which forced King Ferdinand I to set up a new constitution and
parliament, but it was soon squashed by the Austrians. All their future uprisings failed, and in

My Personal Development Of Business
Personally, it has always been hard for me to stay organized and develop plans to achieve whatever it
is I am doing if I do not have passion for it. I have always had a dislike for most of the things I have
learned in school, but developed a passion for the world of business. Tony Hsieh said, Chase the

One day I was helping my dad pressure wash one of our rental houses. After finishing, I realized that it

decided to give it a try. I asked one of my best friends if he would like to pitch in some money and
help me start up the business up. He said yes, so we borrowed some money from our dads, bought
equipment, and went out and tried to make some money; and M W Pressure Washing was born.
We went door to door around our neighborhood to try and get our first job. We eventually got one, a
driveway, and scheduled it that weekend. We priced the job extremely low because we had no clue
what we were doing and we barely knew how to work our pressure washer. After our first job was
finished, we would pick up some jobs, maybe once or twice a month, just to make some money. Then,
in the end of 2012 work started to gradually pick up. We had an official website, business cards, and

The Ship Poem
Within The Ship Starting, there are three notable instances of repetition. For one, the word ship occurs
three times (including in the title). Given that ships are the topic of interest in the poem, this instance
of repetition has the basic effect of bringing the locus of the text back to the title, or central theme. The
second example can be observed in the second and third lines, where the word sails is followed by
moonsails, a made up compound version of the former word. Using the same word twice, and in this
case, by adding on and modifying its second appearance, the reader is likely to acquire a clear picture
of the scene that Whitman lays out in the poem. Emphasizing the image of the ship s sails by
preceding the words with diction such as all and even attributes the sails to a sense of abundance or
freedom. The third instance of repetition occurs in line four, where she speeds she speeds is used to
describe the motions that the ship is making. Whereas it would be considered grammatically correct to
include a comma after the first mention of she speeds, leaving it out better reflects the content of the
poem: she speeds she speeds gives the impression of a ship slicing through the water quickly. In many
cases, using the same word twice in a row takes away from a text s message, but in The Ship Starting,
this repetition instead works in Whitman s favor by supporting the visual imagery he seeks to create.
Walt Whitman s The Ship Starting is a poem that

A. Systems of Backyard Poultry Production
The raising of poultry mainly fulfills the purposes of meat, eggs and feather production, and sometimes
for religious ceremonies (Scanes et al., 2004). Poultry are efficient converters of feed to food. Food of
poultry origin serves the highest nutritional values, with egg being not only delicious but extremely
nutritious and balance of all nutrients (Scanes et al., 2004).
Poultry plays very important role for mankind through food supply, income and employment
generation, providing raw materials to some industries, facilitating research works etc. Family poultry
makes up to 80 percent of poultry stocks in low income food deficit countries (Pym et al., 2006)
where owners raise poultry in small numbers ranging from single birds up to a few hundred.

She is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter. Persephone, being such a beautiful and kind young woman
was wanted by many gods, Hades included. One day, when she was playing in the meadow, the Earth
opened up and Hades appeared to take Persephone. Accomplishing his task, Demeter searched the
Earth for her daughter until Hermes told her everything. It seemed that Zeus and Hermes watched the
abduction. After eating some pomegranate seeds, Persephone was to stay in the Underworld one third
of the year and return to her mother for four months. What everyone didn t know is that Zeus may
have helped plan it. Zeus one of the big three, is the god of weather and siblings of Hades and
Poseidon. Overthrowing his father, Cronus, Zeus became ruler of Olympus as well as lord of the sky.
His weapon was a thunderbolt that he would hurl at whoever defied him. Using his shield, Zeus could
create anything of nature that related to the sky. He was married to Hera, but was known for his
infamous affairs with other goddesses. One of his many affairs brought one of the most complex and
important gods: Apollo. Apollo was the god of many things including: music, art, poetry, oracles,
archery, plague, medicine, sun, light and knowledge. He was born out of an affair with the Titan
Goddess, Leto. Apollo was also known as kuoros, which means he is beardless, athletic, and youthful.
However, he is also known for many deaths with his plagues in wars. Ironically, he also represents
purity, he is able to cleanse all the blood stained on bodies. All in all, Apollo was very powerful, and
represented many things in

Justice and Love in Hugo s Les Misérables
The nineteenth century was an era distinguished by invention, progress, and social change. Countries
were busy healing from previous wars while fighting ongoing battles at the same time. Nationalism
and militarism became extremely evident around the world as advances in science and exploration
propelled new discoveries. Significant movements, such as Romanticism and the Industrial
Revolution, stemmed in Europe and swept the masses, spreading widely across nations. The rapid
growth of the British Empire, alongside the calamitous fall of the French Empire, marked the
beginning of the eventful nineteenth century. Years after the French Revolution, the French Empire
was defeated in the Napoleonic wars, resulting in a broken union full of ... Show more content on

Under the Declaration of Rights, the foreman s action of discriminating Valjean would be legally
protected because distinction based on virtue is permitted. However, the Declaration completely
disregards the fact that Valjean was imprisoned for something he did in a hopeless situation. The
society turned innocent people into hardened criminals because of their status. In Les Misérables,
Hugo focuses on society s mistreatment of Valjean in order to show how society in nineteenth century
France was defective because it took no notice of the morality of inevitable crime. By incorporating an
accurate historical figure into his novel, Hugo highlights the idea that even in miserable conditions,
life can be changed through perseverance and effort. In Les Misérables, Jean Valjean escapes his dark
criminal past and uses his knowledge of industry to start a successful factory. Years later, he becomes
the mayor and is rumored to have immense sums deposited with Laffitte, with the special condition
that they were always at his immediate command (Hugo 55). Hugo places Jacques Laffitte, a real
banker from French history, into his novel to interact with the transformed Valjean. Laffitte, a
successful banker and politician, rose

Religious Conflict Between The Nazis And Jehovah s Witnesses
Religious Conflict between the Nazis and Jehovah s Witnesses In World War 2 many religions were
being persecuted and punished because of their perceived racial inferiority : Roma (Gypsies), the
disabled, and some of the Slavic peoples (Poles, Russians, and others). Other groups were persecuted
on political, ideological, and behavioral grounds, among them Communists, Socialists, Jehovah s
Witnesses, and homosexuals, states The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum . Jehovah s
Witnesses were persecuted for the reason that they did not follow the Nazi s ways and did not fight in
the war with or against them. Many died because the Nazis would shoot them, put them in hot
furnaces, or gas rooms where they would put a poisonous gas in a room where some witnesses were
locked up in and eventually died in the poisonous room. In the concentration camps, the only way to
be free and leave the concentration camp was to sign a paper saying that they will convert and become
a follower of the Nazis. There was one experience that was really surprising to many. One of the
leaders of a concentration camp had lined up some of Jehovah s Witnesses to see who will convert to a
Nazi. Very few said that they will and so once the leader saw who will convert and who would not he
said, Those who said that they will convert and follow Hitler will be killed because how can we trust
you if you had just betrayed your own religion. In the end those who said that they will convert, were
killed, and

  • 2. An Analysis Of Euripides The Suppliants In The Suppliants, Euripides wrote, The people cannot form proper judgements and therefore cannot rightly direct a state . Euripides is living in the midst of democracy in Athens; therefore his quote is a critique of what is happening around him. In his quote, he is taking an anti democratic stance towards the question of who is fit to rule. Euripides believes only one or few people should rule a state, as not all are qualified or have the proper judgement to do so. However, people do rule the state, without having to meet any arbitrary requirements to be fit to rule. The term proper judgement is highly subjective and the notion that only a few have the ability to rule is simply paternalistic. The relative success of ancient Athenian and contemporary Swiss direct democracy show that people do have the ability to form proper judgments. It was Aristotle who once said man is a political animal , so it is in human nature to be politically involved. In opposition, Plato describes the grave consequences of placing the power into the one or the few in his ideal yet authoritarian state. There are many issues with Euripides quote. Firstly, the term proper judgment is extremely abstract. For instance, Machiavelli and Kant would have very different ideas on what proper judgment may be, but both are thought to be notable political philosophers. The decisions rulers make will always be criticized by one group of people, so it is difficult to say for certain if someone meets ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Effects Of Fitness Training On Vo2 Max And Vco2 Max Bryanna Ward #21421728 The Effects of Fitness Training on VO2 max and VCO2 Max Abstract: Mammals consume oxygen and produce carbon dioxide as part of their metabolism process in order to maintain body functions. This occurs at all times, both rest and during intense work, within mammals. During times of greater work, skeletal muscles work harder than they do at rest. This in turn increases their metabolic rate and results in a greater demand for oxygen. It has been proposed that fitness training has a positive effect on both the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, which effect the maximum oxygen consumption rate during intense exercise periods. I hypothesize that individuals who aerobically exercise a minimum of at least 7 hours per week will have increased fitness, which will maximize their overall metabolic rates and give them higher VO2 max and VCO2 max values than individuals who do not have increased fitness. Ten males having different fitness levels were put on stationary bikes at increasing levels until exhaustion and VO2 max and VCO2 max was then measured from each individual. It was found that there was a slight upward trend between fitness VO2max and fitness VCO2max, although this trend was not statistically significant when represented by the T test values through statistical analysis. Further experiments should be done in the future to verify a statistically significant correlation. Introduction: The Human body requires a constant supply of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Suez Crisis and Sir Antony Eden The Suez Crisis is often cited by some historians as one of the worst historical decisions that imprinted an indelible mark on the then British premier Sir Antony Eden. More often than not the decision by Eden to invade Egypt following a disagreement about nationalization of the Suez Canal is often cited as a the worst foreign policy decision that destroyed Eden political career and humiliated British empire in its wake. The decision by Eden to use military force against Nasser is often viewed by many as arising from a personal grudge towards Nasser, while only a few defend the fact that Eden had attempted to resolve the looming conflict peacefully. A Brief Introduction about Sir Robert Antony Eden It is unfortunate that despite Sir Antony Eden having successfully served as Britain for three decades as a foreign secretary and his subsequent rise to become the British prime minister in 1955 was overshadowed by the 1956 Suez Crisis that saw him tender his resignation after serving approximately 18 months in office. While justifying this action, Eden cited that he was protecting British commercial interests of which the recent nationalization of the Suez Canal by Nasser seemed to threaten. Eden strongly perceived Nasser as a dictator and that his actions could easily be replicated with the actions of Hitler and Mussolini that subsequently ignited World War. Secrets are frequently mentioned in the infamous Shakespearean play, Romeo and Juliet. Even the love of the two teenagers is kept a secret from their respective families! However, some of these secrets contribute to the tearful deaths of Juliet and Romeo. Sometimes, secrets should be told. Capulet and Montague secrets influence the play in one way or another, yet it s known that they should ve been told. Not sharing his forbidden love gives Romeo the opportunity to love her without consequences, at least for a while. He gets to be with his true love. The sights and sounds of Star Wars has prevailed throughout the decades, whether as nostalgia, or to complain about the prequel trilogy. Overall, every aspect, but particularly the sounds, of the Star Wars franchise is made to connect back to the original trilogy. Professor Jennifer Greenhill presented her paper Commercial Illustration s Immaterial Bodies which focused on the commercial artist Coles Phillips and this imagery for the mass press where design is vital to attract any potential buyers. It was illuminating to discover this artist and some of his most characteristic works created with a fade away technique where the body of women disappears in the background so dematerialising their bodies. In the story, The Chase by Annie Dillard, a young girl, Annie, grows up in a town where being a girl didn t affect how she grew up. When Annie was a child she played football, baseball and threw snowballs with the boys. So as you can see being a girl in Annie s neighborhood didn t affect her, but as everyone grows up, we all realize that gender roles really do matter. We all probably grew up with boys and girls, but all places were different. One might have grown up in a town where you weren t allowed to do certain things because you were a girl. Otherwise, someone might have grown up in a town where nobody really cares about whether you were a boy or a girl. Either way, throughout my childhood, rules and roles were all based on whether you were a boy or a girl, and as I moved on through my life, I realized that those gender roles mean a lot more as we grow older. The play began with a conversation amongst the Persians elders about their war with the Greeks. They possessed grave trepidations because of a lack of news from the front. This fear stemmed from the great risk King Xerxes took by calling all the heroes and soldiers of the Persian Empire to fight in Greece. • 23. Hans Zimmer s Time From The Movie Inception The work I selected is Hans Zimmer s Time from the movie Inception. The structure of Time is one of suspenseful buildup. There is a simple theme that is introduced and as the song progresses, layers are added. The conjunct melody becomes more disjunct as Time reaches its climax. Time also has great dynamic contrast, starting with an eerie pianissimo and slowly building up until the climax where the piece reaches a gripping fortississimo. Finally, because this piece is based on the concept of time, the instrumentation reflects that concept. About every 30 seconds a new instrument enters. This constantly changes the timbre of Time , allowing the listener s emotions to change as the song progresses. Because of all of these elements, I decided that a light show would best display all of the extraordinary components that Time has to offer. A quiet piano playing only in bass clef enters with low strings (violoncello, contrabass, etc). The piano plays whole notes while the strings play barely audible pulsing eighth notes. During these first 30 seconds white light (symbolizing the piano) surrounds the set to display that the piano is what holds the theme. The white light syncs with the whole notes, lasting for four beats before it fades out and fades back in again. Beneath the white light is a deep purple, symbolizing the low strings. The dark purple is faded so one can barely see it, just like how one must listen for the pulsating eighth notes. Like the white light, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The characters usually change in different ways. Multiple characters might change by being ruthless and blackhearted, and then at the end, they are a happy and cheery character. This quote was said right before the narrator and Tyler engaged into a fight. This quote was the root of the formation of fight club. This quote also states that the narrator is not independent and lost a form of his power by listening to what Tyler had told him. The narrator had the option of being independent by not hitting Tyler and engaging into a fight, but the power Tyler had over him was overbearing for him to stop. Once the narrator asks Tyler to stay at his home, this is a defining moment of where Tyler has more control of the narrator by letting him into his home. This moment also shows how the narrator is losing power by moving into the house of the man that has control over him. The Formation of Project Mayhem is an aspect of how the narrator is losing control by a political organization created by Tyler. Project Mayhem is a secret organization that was formed by the Fight Club, and led by Tyler Durden. Looking at a lot of the sources available from the Cuban Revolution it is clear to see that women played a crucial role in the revolution. But most of the secondary sources that I have found surround three specific women, Haydée Santamaría, Celia Sanchez and Vilma Espín. These revolutionaries played a crucial role in shaping the outcome of the Cuban Revolution while also advancing feminism and gender equality. These sources discuss how women were able to move from second class citizens to having a real role in government. These are great tools in navigating the experience of the average Cuban women while also looking at these figures of the revolution. Margaret Randall s book does a great job of looking at the Revolution through an inspirational and powerful leader. Hadyée Santamaría was a member of the resistance and was good friends with Fidel Castro. She endured the deaths of her family so that Cuba could have a future away from the Batista regime. Her existence is an example of the accessibility and mobility given to women to activate change. But does her role in the resistance represent the average Cuban woman? Michelle Chase s book claims that there was a revolution in the larger revolution that advocated for a shift in gender roles on an everyday level. Her book really focuses on the heart of what I want my paper to be about. I want it to focus on the ability for the revolution to help give people a larger voice and the women who made that possible. • 31. Napoleon s Reign Over Italy Italy, as it is known today, has been in existence for less than one hundred fifty years. For several centuries, Italy had been made up of separate states often ruled by foreign powers. In 1796, Napoleon Bonaparte invaded and conquered the Italian peninsula. After falling under French rule, the peninsula was divided into three parts: several northern states, which were annexed to France, the Kingdom of Italy, of which Napoleon declared himself king in 1805, and the Kingdom of Naples in the south. Napoleon and the French brought new ideas about society and governing with them. They also brought the concepts of freedom and nationalism with them, which might have sparked Italy s later attempts to achieve unity. Napoleon s reign over Italy crumbled with his defeat in 1814. Shortly after, parts of Italy were distributed amongst other European countries, particularly Austria, and returned to former rulers by the Congress of Vienna in 1815. Many people were unhappy with the actions of the Congress and secret societies started to grow to oppose these rulers and promote the idea of a united Italy. One of the secret societies set up in opposition to foreign rulers was called the Carbonari. This nationalistic, revolutionary group started in Naples and spread northward. In 1820 they carried out a successful revolution in Naples which forced King Ferdinand I to set up a new constitution and parliament, but it was soon squashed by the Austrians. Tony Hsieh said, Chase the vision [or plan], not the money; the money will end up following you. Over the past years, my intellectual development involving business has resulted in a growth of my desire to learn and succeed in school. One day I was helping my dad pressure wash one of our rental houses. After finishing, I realized that it was a pretty simple task and maybe could make some money off it. So I did some research and decided to give it a try. I asked one of my best friends if he would like to pitch in some money and help me start up the business up. • 35. The Ship Poem Within The Ship Starting, there are three notable instances of repetition. For one, the word ship occurs three times (including in the title). Given that ships are the topic of interest in the poem, this instance of repetition has the basic effect of bringing the locus of the text back to the title, or central theme. The second example can be observed in the second and third lines, where the word sails is followed by moonsails, a made up compound version of the former word. Using the same word twice, and in this case, by adding on and modifying its second appearance, the reader is likely to acquire a clear picture of the scene that Whitman lays out in the poem. Emphasizing the image of the ship s sails by preceding the words with diction such as all and even attributes the sails to a sense of abundance or freedom. The third instance of repetition occurs in line four, where she speeds she speeds is used to describe the motions that the ship is making. Whereas it would be considered grammatically correct to include a comma after the first mention of she speeds, leaving it out better reflects the content of the poem: she speeds she speeds gives the impression of a ship slicing through the water quickly. In many cases, using the same word twice in a row takes away from a text s message, but in The Ship Starting, this repetition instead works in Whitman s favor by supporting the visual imagery he seeks to create.
