Dialectical Journal (Ww2)
You will not believe what s happened this month. Before I proceed with my usual banter, I would like
to greet you and follow through with the formalities in our monthly letters. How are you and Pa? What
are you up to during this time of despair? Anyways, on with my stories. This month I encountered one
of my biggest personal achievements yet; I single handedly went into a German Aerodrome and was
able to rid of three of their planes and fly back to our base intact. I know you and Pa always tell me
that I should know that these are people that we are fighting against. But sometimes it is so hard to
view these Germans as people. It s the pain and anguish that they cause us that fuels the hatred that s
depicted in most slurs and the overall attitude

Eu Economic Law, Freedom of Establishment
Art 49 is the base. In the handout. It talks about nationals of a MS, if you are a national of a non MS,
you can t rely on this provision. This applies to nationals of a MS or companies that are established in
MS. We can t deal with freedom of movement of companies, as that s a highly complicated area and
beyond our scope. There are a couple of logical steps in order to deduce whether there is a breach by a
member state in your particular case. 1. Is the situation really one where establishment is at issue? 2. Is
there a cross border issue involved, you can only rely on the internal market rules only if you re
moving into another MS, there must be some element of moving or trying to move? This can lead to
anomalies for an example ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It concerned a lawyer, Mr. Klopp, a German national, a member of the Dusseldorf bar in Germany, he
wanted to set up another office in Paris, in addition to his chambers in Dusseldorf. The French Bar
rejected, saying that you could only have one set of chambers to join the French Bar and this bar must
be in Paris. The Parisian bar argued that it was a consumer protection issue. If a client goes to an
avocet, to protect the service and deal with problems, you need to be present and professional
supervision require just one place of location. The court accepted that and lauded the necessity of
protecting consumers, but the court held that it was disproportionate. It is not enough for the rule to be
accepted in principle, it must also be proportional. d) Right to Equal Treatment in Accessing and

Was The American Revolution Inevitable Dbq
Was the American Revolution inevitable? According to John Adams in 1818, the desire for
independence was already in the hearts of Americans long before war broke out in 1775. This was
untrue for many loyalists living in the colonies in 1775. However, there was simply nothing the
mother country could do to stop her colonies from wanting to move on from its natural state of
identity in order to grow into a unique and independent country. To begin with, Richard Bland in his
1766 An Inquiry Into the Rights of the British Colonies believed that America should be independent
as to their internal government, of the original Kingdom, but united with her, as to their external
policy... (Doc A). The Navigation Acts were an example of external acts, ... Show more content on

The Stamp Act required colonists to purchase stamped paper for every legal document, license, and
newspaper and imposed special stamped duties on packages of playing cards and dice. All who
disobeyed the Act were to be tried in the vice admiralty courts. By May of 1765, Boston shopkeepers,
artisans, and laborers united in a resistance group called Sons of Liberty. By the end of the summer,
the Sons of Liberty harassed customs workers, stamp agents, and royal governors faced mob threats
and hence stamp agents resigned all over. The Act was to become effective on November 1st, 1765,
but colonial protests prevented stamped paper from being sold. In the month of October, 1765,
delegates from nine colonies met in NYC. Congress issued a Declaration of Rights and Grievances: it
stated that Parliament lacked power to impose taxes on the colonies because they were not represented
in Parliament. This was the first time in which colonies began to set aside their differences and unite
as one. Eventually, the Act was repealed and in 1766, Parliament issued the Declaratory Act: it
addressed Parliament s full right to make laws in all cases whatsoever . The Tea Act was made in 1773
and it granted the East India Company the right to sell directly to the colonies, free of taxes, this
would cut colonial merchants out of the tea trade because the company would sell for less. On

Rylands V Fletcher
Question 6, April 2006: Solution to fe1 question
Bell Computers could attach liability to either Chemical Supply or Industrial Estates under the tort of
Rylands v Fletcher.
Chemical Supply s Liability
Rylands v Fletcher established that a person who for his own purposes brings on his lands and collects
and keeps there anything likely to do mischief if it escapes, must keep it in at his peril, and if he does
not do so , is prima facie answerable for all the damage which is the natural consequence of its escape.
The rule therefore imposes strict liability on the defendant for all damage which occurs as a natural
consequence of the escape, and there is no requirement for intent or neglect. The rule only applies to
defendants who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Industrial Estate s Liability
The rule in Rylands applies to owners of premises as well as occupiers, but Bell would have difficulty
overcoming the proofs outlined in respect of Industrial, namely accumulation for Industrial s benefit
etc. and the absence of any control by Industrial over the harmful substances.
Liability would be more successfully attached to Industrial in negligence for its failure to keep the
road in a good state of repair. Firstly, Bell will need to establish that it owed a duty of care to it. As
Lord Atkin stated in O Donoghue v Stevenson you must take reasonable care to avoid acts or omission
which you can reasonably foresee would be liable to injure your neighbour. While neighbour in this
sense does not strictly mean persons who occupy the property beside you, it was established in
Glencar Explorations v Mayo Co.Co. that if a plaintiff and defendant s relationship is sufficiently
proximate, and the harm caused was foreseeable, then in the absence of policy limitations, a duty of
care would arise. Bell should be able to establish a duty of care in that by failing to maintain the road
in a good condition, it was reasonably foreseeable that such failure could cause injury to Bell s
property, as Industrial knew that tanks full of harmful substances travelled on the road on a daily basis,
and that if such chemicals were to escape due to an accident caused by the defective road, they would

Telescopic Lenses Research Paper
To begin, the invention of the telescopic lenses was first led by a Dutch eyeglass maker named Hans
Lippershey. During the time of 1608, Lippershey tried to get ownership on his creation that allowed
the device to have three times magnification, allowing you to see objects closer than what they truly
are. The telescope that he had created had a concave eyepiece that lines up with a convex lens. To
explain what a concave is the best description would be that it s an object that curves inward, like a
flashlight or headlights on a car. The opposite of that is a convex, which is an object that curves
outward. According to the article called Space, one story goes that he got the idea for his design after
observing two children in his shop holding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1609, Galilei became interested in the Dutch perspective glasses which allowed you to see far
objects up close and decided to make one of his own. Within days he had created one without ever
actually seeing a model of the design. However, he was not quite satisfied with the beginning model
so he continued to improve the design that led him officially to present his creation to the Venetian
State. This caused a shift in his career as the Senate set him up permanently as a lecturer at the
University of Padua. This led to his invention of the telescope, that like Lippershey was able to let far
objects seem close. Galilei made the telescope with a magnification of twenty times and allowed him
to be the first to point the telescope to the moon. This was a change in astronomy history as it allowed
him to discover and uncover information about space.
Third, the invention of the telescopic lenses was lastly led by Joseph Von Fraunhofer. He was born in
Bavaria, Germany on March 6, 1787. According to the encyclopedia of world Biography, he was the
first the solve the problem of constructing achromatic lenses of high magnitude. He built the great
Dorpat Reflector in 1824 that was a large telescope with the lens. These lenses were not a usual type
but achromatic, as opposed to the mirrors commonly used in the other lenses. The Dorpat Reflector
was 9.5 inches and 14 feet

Transcontinental Airways History
Flight has become romanticized by humanity, it provides Freedom . Throughout the majority human
history, humans have used land and water for their transportation needs. The invention of the airplane
opened the use of a third medium, air. Flight only has the illusion of freeing us from earth. Airplanes
would not be able to maintain flight without their ground based systems. These systems are arranged
along flight corridors or airways. The Transcontinental Airway was the first major flight corridor
constructed in the United States. The ground systems constructed along these corridors have made
major impacts upon the landscape of the early 20th century.

There were lights to define the border of each landing strip, approach lights and red lights to mark
obstructions to be avoided.
The features found on the transcontinental were found on airways across the country. Over 18,000
miles, 15550 beacons, and 263 intermediate landing fields were built over the course of the program.
The airways crossed nearly every type of terrain the country has. The manner of lights installed and
where they were installed was dictated by the individual challenges of the terrain of each airway. It is
hard to pin a date as to when the airway system was phased out. There was no sweeping change to
cause their disappearance. Small incremental changes and advances in technology made them
obsolete.
Today remnants of the system still exist throughout the country, primarily in the west where
development pressures were lower. The airway system pioneered by the Transcontinental is still in use
today, though with a much reduced capacity, in mountainous regions of

My Experience At A Gym s Kids Club Essay
A year and a half ago I was terrified of children. I was afraid that I would screw them up in the brain. I
thought I was a bad influence and I would be the type of parent who is never there for their kid. I was
desperately looking for a career change when an old coworker passed by me at the mall, she told me
about her great job at a gym s kids club. I thought it sounded really easy and at least a good change of
pace for the time being, so I applied. After I had been offered the job I immediately called my mother
and asked, what am I going to do? What did I get myself into? I don t like kids! she told me, you ve
always gravitated towards kids and always entertained them at functions. You have a natural ability
with kids. You ll be fine. If you are really that worried just try it out for a couple weeks. Shortly after
starting the job I couldn t leave I liked my coworkers too much and I realized I had always been
wrong. I wasn t actually terrified of the kids, I was afraid because I didn t know how I would react to
different situations. After 7 months of working there, I became the supervisor of the kids club and 4
months after that I decided I wanted to try my skills in early education and family studies.
My most defining experience would be my struggles in the school system. At a young age, I was in
pull out programs because I had poor comprehension in reading. I wasn t special needs but I was put

The Personal Globe Inventory test, or PGI, is a test that measures interests and self estimates of ability
in a vast array of fields (Tracey, n.d.). After taking the PGI, my results concluded that the best fitting
occupation for me was a photographer. I had a score of 99 out of 100 for photography. Photography
involves artistic skills, and it generally also includes an interest in nature. My score was so high due to
the fact that I had very high scores in both the artistic field, 64, and the nature/outdoors field, 75 ( PGI

African Americans And The United States
Although African Americans make up merely fourteen percent of the U.S. population, thirty seven
percent of people who are homeless are African Americans. Forty two percent of African American
children are educated in all high poverty schools. In 2012, the mean critical reading SAT score for
college accepted students was 428 for African Americans and 527 for whites. For mathematics, it was
428 for African Americans and 536 for whites. For writing it was 417 for African Americans and 515
for whites (National Center for Educational Statistics). These staggering data manage to encompass
just a few of the issues that are prevalent among African Americans in the United States. However,
people may find themselves wondering how these figures came to be; who is responsible and what can
be done? Many will begin turning to stereotypes for justification of this issue: African Americans are
lazy, African Americans are criminals, African Americans are indifferent towards education. Indeed,
that shallow assumption can be made made based on sole observation, but further research unveils an
extraordinarily different conclusion. In order to understand this, one must dig deep into the history
books and study the turbulent past of African Americans. Doing so, I was able to form a deduction that
shows the origin of so many issues that the African American community is pressed with. African
Americans experience the ramifications of their pasts everyday through the effects of denied access to

The Differences Between Female Long Term Mating Strategies...
The differences between female long term mating strategies and female short term mating strategies
This essay aims to show a comparison between the differences between both female short term mating
strategies and female long term mating strategies. It will explore the evolution of psychology that has
shown reasons for human mating and how these reasons go above and beyond the general idea of
physical attractiveness and love. This essay will identify how mate preferences have evolved and
further identify psychological mechanisms that women have used to select their mates over the past.

Darwin suggested that females preferred certain phenotypic traits as females could gain direct benefit
from these, for example, certain male characters are able to provide resources or offspring and
increase fecundity (Mota, 2010) .
When discussing female long term mating strategies, it has been identified that there are certain
preferences in which a female desire from a mate (Buss, 2008). Preferences include, a preference for
economic resources, a preference for industriousness and ambition, a preference for a good physical
appearance and health, and also a preference for dependability and stability. Females prefer someone
they can invest in and someone that is willing to invest in them also. And they also desire a mate that
can physically protect them and their children and that is both healthy and displays compatibility.
There are preconditions as too why these preferences have evolved, such as the idea that resources
have been made more defensible and accruable and are more controlled by men, and the idea that men
would have to be different between each other in their willingness to somewhat invest their resources
in both women and their children. Belsky et al (1991) discovered that some men would rather invest in
many women rather than one women and their children as this would mean them

The Fallout After World War 1 And The Great Depression
The fallout after the World War 1 and the Great Depression saw the emergence of a literary
preoccupation with the idea of fragmentation, and a cubist application to literature as a means of
representing the 20th Century modern reality. Authors, poets, artists etc saw; cubism, expressionism
and fragmentation as the best vehicles to depict the incomplete, broken lives of their subjects. With
both modern and post modern literature making a conscious break away from previous realism, 20thC
literature employed and explored subjectivism, whereby the author turned from the typical external
reality to the inner consciousness of a character or subject, to reflect a motif/ theme as a whole.
Modernist literature did so by exploring fragmentation in terms of narrative, how a character was
constructed, the formation of passages and chapters, and how events unfolded. This typically
surmounted to the creation of a sense of a chaotic universe, metaphysically unfounded, laced with the
subconscious fears of characters and notions of alienation.
This was successfully created by reconsidering and challenging the established conventions of
perspective . Illustrated through relativity , artists combined visual consideration and memory into a
concentrated still which they felt best documented the age in an abstract form, but which was wholly
all the more realistic. This form was not only retained for art but stretched into prominent literature;

We Must Make Real Organic Goods
In today s fast moving world it is difficult to keep up with nutrition with early wake up calls and late
night shifts at work. It is really hard to fit a nice healthy meal in between, and finally, when we get
home, we come to the fridge, only to find sugar, high carbohydrate foods, and yummy scrumptious fat
in the fridge. There is nothing like comfort food right? Well, in the U.S their thousands of organic food
stores calming to have better and healthy vegetables, products and medicine that will detoxify you.
However, farmers globally make up only one percent of organic agricultural land, although with more
practices being done in the U.S the percentage globally would go from one to one point seven percent
if you counted all the organic farmers in the U.S. Due to the low real organic food supply and the
majority being convectional it is lugubrious to say that one cannot become detoxed and, if you thought
so before doctors are claiming it is impossible. In order to make real organic goods, we should
practice our own organic farming in inner cities, and find new and better farming techniques to help
the earth. This would also help the local farmers and the environment.
Like in most inner cities, it s sometimes difficult to catch the bus let alone a good healthy breakfast the

America And Gender Neutral Bathrooms Essay
America and Gender Neutral Bathrooms
There is a long history of social groups being repressed within the United States of America. With an
ever changing culture and a strong force against certain changes, certain ethnic and social groups
appear to be neglected by the lawmakers of America. One of the more recent occurrences of this has
been the LBGT community. Up until 2014, marriage was not even legal between a same sex couple.
After gay marriage was ruled legal, a landslide of other reforms were brought to attention. One of the
more controversial topics being discussed today is the rights of the LBGT community in accordance to
public bathrooms. They argue that anyone should be able to use whichever bathroom that matches
with their identified gender. The definition of gender and the rights that accompany them is constantly
being updated and adjusted. Because of this sudden movement, social issues are sparking outrage and
debate on whether this argument should be implemented into society. This issue has dominated the
media and has caused chaos on both sides of the spectrum. Members of the LBGT community should
not be able to use whatever bathroom they please. The U.S. federal government is backing the issue of
gender neutral bathrooms. As Lisa Rein, publisher of an article in The Washington Post, writes, The
federal government is strongly urging employers to give transgender employees access to bathrooms
that correspond to their gender identity, marking a new policy front

Characterism In Looking For Alibrandi By Melina Marchetta
he novel, Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta, focuses on a 17 year old teenager who has an
Italian background called Josephine Alibrandi. Josephine is really two different people at the
beginning and the end of the book. In the beginning, Josephine is overdramatic, poised to react to her
Italian background and her illegitimacy. At the end of the book, Josephine began to achieve
emancipation. She has learnt that she has blown her problems out of proportion, that not everyone is
about to execute her for being Italian and illegitimate. Josephine s interaction with the other characters
has brought this about. She faced quite a number of challenges in her final year. They include the
arrival of Michael Andretti and her change of perspective and attitude towards Nonna Katia. In the
beginning of the novel, Josephine s attitude towards Nonna was very atrocious. Despite the fact that
she disliked Nonna, she still has to come to her house every afternoon after school. One of the reasons
that she disliked coming to Nonna s house was that she despised the idea of being force fed every
afternoon of her life (Quote: I was force fed when I arrived. Force fed like every afternoon of my life

Compare And Contrast A Good Man Is Hard To Find And Arnold...
In comparing and contrasting Flannery O Connor s A Good Man is Hard to Find and Joyce Carol
Oates s Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been the stories contain very different plots, but they
both have similarities between the characters Arnold Friend and Misfit. They appear to be mentally
unstable and highly selfish by only caring about their needs. For example, Where Are You Going,
Where Have You Been Arnold Friend shows his mentality and selfishness by harming the main
character Connie by being highly persistent. In A Good Man is Hard to Find the Misfit showed his
mentality and selfishness by killing the grandmother when she was trying to bring out faith and his
good side when the situation escalated when the car crashed. Regardless of these two completely
different stories, there are several similarities between the characters Arnold Friend and Misfit in their
personalities. In the story Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been Connie, the main character, is
already struggling with many things in life and sneaks her way to date guys. There was also
conflicting between her and her mother due to her mother favoring her sister, June and describing her
as someone who is a good example of what she wants Connie to be. Her father is never at home due to
work and when he is home, the girls do not relate to him. Arnold Friend is described as a dangerous
figure with his pale complexion and his slick black hair looking like trouble by not presenting himself
in a pleasing way to Connie, by not walking properly. This was an indication on how he was not in the
right state of mind and how Arnold shouldn t be near Connie. There was one scene in the story where
Arnold Friend shows up, uninvited, notifying Connie that he is not a friend, but has come to take her
away from her home to possibly kidnap her. Connie felt a wave of dizziness, rise in her at this sight
and she stared at him as if waiting for something to change the shock of the moment, make it alright

that she come out. Things took an unpleasant twist when Arnold tells Connie not use the phone or he

Definition: In this kind of essay, the aim is to show the similarities and differences of two items, two
people, two countries, or how something or someone has changed. When comparing two things, we
focus more on the similarities though we may mention the differences shortly. When contrasting two
things, we point out the differences between them. The most important point to consider while

Cults And Its Effect On Society
Cults have played major roles in how society has developed. They surround us everywhere. We have
been in contact with them and we don t even realize it. According to
Merriam Webster, a cult is a religious group that is not part of an accepted religion because their
beliefs are seen as extreme and/or dangerous. Cults have carried out many attacks and have caused
many deaths due to their beliefs.
Cult leaders are the controllers that have the reins to their followers minds. They can brainwash them
into believing and doing whatever they desire in order to feel power. Many people have gone to great
extents to harm others and even themselves. Many have killed for their devotion to their leader. How
can leaders achieve such control over others? Everything that cult leaders use to manipulate all comes
down to psychology. Some use fear and guilt to persuade while others brainwash them into believing
that what they are doing is for the greater good and that it is all part of God s plan. Shoko Asahara
gained power over his followers in the
Aum Shinrikyo cult, which led various chemical attacks against the citizens of Japan, by exalting
himself as the Messiah whose mission was to save humanity, a mission that many cult leaders have in
common. Shoko Asahara was born Chizuo Matsumoto on March 2, 1955 in Yashushiro, Japan to a
poor working class family. At a young age he developed glaucoma which led to his blindness in his

Persuasive Essay About Fishing Charters
Fishing charters are a fun activity to partake in when you go on an Alaskan vacation, no matter what
time of year it is. You get to socialize, spend time on the water, see a variety of fish and even catch a
few. While this can be exciting and unlike anything you have experienced before, many people have
made the mistake of bringing certain items with them onto the boat. Depending on these items, the
fishing charter may not be as fun and exciting as you expected. Here are five things you shouldn t

on your fishing charter, you shouldn t bring jewelry. Some pieces, like rings, bracelets and earrings,
can easily slip off and fall into the water. If this happens, there will be a very slim chance of
recovering these items. Weapons: Fishing charters are supposed to be safe for all passengers on board,

a good idea to bring weapons on the boat, it is just not inappropriate. This is because it can make
people uncomfortable and take away from their experience, which is unfair because everyone deserves

How Did Tom Brady s Influence On American Football
Several thousand years ago, the Gods played a sport called American Football. They brought down a
legendary football on Earth. They planted the football on a stone in California and decided that only
the best quarterback would be able to pull this football out of the stone. They would go down in
history as a hall of fame player and would be considered the best quarterback to ever play the game.
After the placement of the football, many people, especially quarterbacks, have tested their strength
and luck to pull it from the stone. The present day location of the football was just outside of
California Memorial Stadium. None of those who have tried to pull out the football were successful.
On August 3rd, 1977 a boy named Tom Brady was born. Throughout his childhood he dedicated most
of his time to playing and watching the game of football. Everyday after school he would go down to
California Memorial Stadium to practice playing football with his father. He hoped that one day he
would be a quarterback in the NFL. As years passed and he attended high school he decided to tryout
for the football team. Although he had passion for the sport, his skills lacked and the coach informed

Sentences By Bonaventure
When one believes in God he naturally revealed to them through the goodness in his creation. By
looking at the surrounding world one can see God s fingerprints. In his work, Sentences, Bonaventure
modestly defines creation as as the loving outflow of a loving God whose infinite dynamic goodness
is shared in a limited dynamic way. Creation is God s other. God doesn t have to create since God is
infinitely bountiful and self communicative within Himself. Creation flows out of the infinite fountain
of divine self diffusive goodness because God is creative and loving. The Father freely desires to
create because God is love, and perfect love can never be self contained it must be shared.
Bonaventure indicates that the world exists by virtue of the free creative power of divine love.
Creation is a free act of divine goodness spilling forth from the infinite divine community of love.
Bonaventure uses the term emanation to describe the expression of creation from the loving
community of a triune God. Emanation used in the Christian sense means that creation flows out of
the infinite, transcendent one. Bonaventure metaphorically writes, Creation is like a river, which flows
from a spring, spreads throughout the land to purify and fructify it, and eventually flows back to its
point of origin. This image speaks to the intimate connection between creation and the triune God as
well as creation s cyclical nature. Bonaventure writes that creation can find its origin in a single

Telescopes Are Those That Use Both Mirrors And Lenses
Catadioptric: Catadioptric telescopes are those that use both mirrors and lenses to produce an image.
The most common or popular type of catadioptric telescope is the Schmidt Cassegrain telescope.
Schmidt Cassegrain telescopes (SCT) are a catadioptric design, meaning they use both lenses and
mirrors. SCTs are primarily reflecting telescopes, but they use a corrector lens to eliminate aberrations
that would result from the mirror design alone. In an SCT the incoming light passes through the
Schmidt corrector lens (also called a corrector plate) at the front of telescope. It is reflected from a
concave primary mirror at the back of the scope which focuses the light to the front of the telescope
where it is reflected again by a smaller, convex secondary mirror. Finally, the light travels back
through a hole in the primary mirror to the rear of the scope where an eyepiece is located for visual
observing. (Starizona.com, 2015) Below is a ray diagram of a Schmidt Cassegrain telescope: (A
levelphysicstutor.com, 2015) At first it seems that an SCT should have a focal length twice as long as
the length of the tube, since the light travels twice the length of the tube. However, SCTs actually have
focal lengths about 5 times longer than the tube length. This is due to the convex curvature of the
secondary mirror. This effectively magnifies the focal length, making the scope act much longer than
it is. The diagram below shows how a Cassegrain type telescope (such as an SCT)

Themes In Snowpiercer
Bong Joon ho s 2013 science fiction film, Snowpiercer, based in a graphic novel of the same name,
offers a look into a frozen future where the last of mankind lives on an evermoving locomotive. It s a
contemporary film focused around the theme of classism in society, driven by metaphors for where we
are and where we are going. With an almost mashup of Orwell meeting the 99%, the story focuses on
the inhabitants of the suppressed population of the train s tail section, led by Chris Evans Curtis,
revolting against the forward living. The film s narrative in relation to its theme is the focal point of
the film and it s main driving force. By using a linear narrative, Joon ho allows the story to move
forward as the characters move towards the front of train. With each decision Curtis makes, the
blocking of his movements is always in a forward motion. He is always looking forward because he
has a definite purpose and only second guesses in a scene (the only scene) where he looks forward and
backward toward two separate outcomes of one decision as the camera follows his head movement in

tell if it s the way he meant the character to be portrayed and that s just Evan s natural charismatic
nature showing through but it adds a layer to the character that makes his decisions and emotions seem
more concrete. The rest of the cast does a great job of carrying out action beats in relation to the
workings of the class and machinery present in the film s screenplay. I do feel that some other
characters expositions are not layered enough to evoke any emotion and that does take away from the

George Orwell s Shooting An Elephant
An iconic figure in the world of controversial novelists, Eric Arthur Blair was known more commonly
by his pen name George Orwell. He was very outspoken and blunt about his views against the
tyrannical British rule and openly opposed its nature. One of the reasons why he was acclaimed as one
of the best writers of the era was because of his lucid prose and the other was the aptness of his work.
George Orwell wanted to target the British rule and to support the idea of a Democratic Government.
In the essay Shooting an Elephant , Orwell shows the flaw in the system and how being in power has
left him without any power to make his own decision at all. When the white man turn tyrant it is his
own freedom that he destroys (Orwell). The essay interests everyone as it points out the necessity of
democracy which has been a widely debated issue for ages. George Orwell targeted masses all over
the world through his writing because the essay was published in the magazine which was available
everywhere around the Globe. Although George Orwell uses some harsh words to describe natives
which undermine his argument however he explains his viewpoint through a mixture of persuasive
and convincing language, a well structured essay and an anti thesis approach to show that Imperialism
destroys the people and the system. In his essay, George Orwell narrates his personal experience to
reach a conclusion that when white man turns tyrant it is his own freedom that he destroys

The Rhetorical Analysis Of The Hope Speech By Harvey Milk
Homosexual people have been misrepresented and refuted their basic civil rights in America over the
years, especially during the late 1970s. During this time, Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected
official in California, was one of the most prominent spokesman on the issues surrounding gay rights.
In 1978 he gave a speech impacting the gay citizens of San Francisco and America, the anti gay right
wing movement supporters, straight allies of the gay movement, and politicians in general. His speech
known as the Hope Speech resonates with people even today as Milk attempted to address gay rights
and the importance of electing gay officials in office, using various rhetorical strategies such as
pathos, logos, and elevated diction. As a skilled speaker, Milk bridged the gap between the majority of
his audience who were not too familiar with homosexuality and those who were. In his speech he uses
pathos to persuade people to join or at least sympathize with his cause, logos to provide a logistical
argument with reason, and ethos to increase credibility. Throughout the speech Milk uses pathos to
connect emotionally to the different audiences he is addressing. To his straight allies, he proclaims that
an ally can not be elected to represent gays because friends can t feel the anger and frustration. They
can sense it in us, but they can t feel it. Because a friend has never gone through what is known as
coming out. This topic also strikes a chord in his gay audience, as coming out is a difficult and
terrifying process. He addresses other minority groups, asking indirectly for their sympathy and
assistance, alluding to the African American civil rights movement of the sixties, and the Latin
American culture s struggles. He references Anita Bryant, an outspoken right wing activist, and tells
his audiences not to fear her or believe her, for she is wrong in her assumptions about gay people. He
also talks of the event in San Francisco where a young man was killed for being gay, causing the
audience to sympathize and also create a sense of urgency for people to make a change. Furthermore,
Milk effectively fills his speech with logos, providing logistical arguments and reason. His major
goals are to persuade

How Hip Hop Connects With Many Different Real World Problem
Chang writes in his book about how hip hop connects with many different real world problem going
on politically and socially in many different places. He tells a story of a beaten and battered area of
South Bronx. In this small area there was no law or order since many jobs were lost and most of what
was left there were people of color from different parts of the world, including Puerto Rico and
Jamaica. Due to the lack of protection Chang tells us that gangs were created as a means of protection
from the junkies and other scavengers. Their way of dealing with things was very violent in nature,
later on when more and more gangs started popping up they became territorial. They attacked other
members who wore their colors on another gang s turf. South Bronx became a very dangerous place
full of nothing but youthful gangs and gang related violence. Socially it was the lack of jobs and other
necessities that led to the creation of hip hop. There became a treaty of sorts, although its terms weren
t really discussed, but the gangs decided instead of focusing on violence and other things maybe they
could focus on music to show the world their struggle. So all the different gangs started producing
different strands of what we call hip hop. Each had different roots in it that all became mixed into a
sort of melting pot.
The four elements are DJing, B boying, MCing, and graffiti. The appeal of Hip Hop was how it
brought to light the struggle that was going on in South Bronx and all

Bipolar Disorder And Mental Health
Bipolar Disorder is otherwise known as manic depressive illness. It is a brain disorder that causes
shifts in moods, energy, activity levels, and the ability to carry out daily tasks. (Cite) These changes in
behavior are outside of the norm as most people have ups and downs throughout their daily routines.
But those with Bipolar Disorder experience shifts in mood that can be damaging to relationships, as
well as their overall school and work performances. (Cite) I chose this disorder as the topic for my

curious whether or not I would end up like her, later on in life, with the same manic depressive illness.

Edith Wharton s Roman Fever
The majority of people in society today believe in free will and that they can choose what happens in
their own life. Others acknowledge an unknown force that shapes their lives, which they have no
control over. This conflict can be explained by the Determinism theory. Determinism is a philosophy
described as human beings having no free will and therefore, cannot control their own actions and
should not be held accountable. This philosophy is seen in Edith Wharton s short story Roman Fever
by her characters Mrs. Slade and Mrs. Ansley as they argue about a letter and an affair in the duration
of the story. Wharton s main characters are on opposing sides of the philosophy of determinism, with
Mrs. Slade representing determinism and Mrs. Ansley representing free will, respectively and each
effectively showing Wharton s disagreement to determinism.
In Roman Fever , Mrs. Slade represented determinism in the duration of the story through her jealousy
and similar emotions. Her thoughts and actions in the story towards her lifelong friend has traces of
jealousy and bewilderment throughout the story. For example when reminiscing on the days of their
youth in Rome, she realized that, There was no one of whom she had less right to think unkindly than
of Grace Ansley. Would she never cure herself of envying her! (Wharton 6). Mrs. Slade talks about
how her life is boring and now that her husband has passed away, her life is even more dreary. She

Fast Fashion On The Fashion Industry
The popularity of cheap and fashionable clothing has been on the rise since the introduction of fast
fashion to major clothing companies. The fashion world has become one of the dominating parts of
consumer culture. However, the affordable clothing movement, in addition to the fast paced garment
work, has affected more than just our wallets. Advancement of new practices and clothing availability

Although fast fashion is a modern concept, the garment industry is one of the oldest and largest
sources of export in many countries. It contains a vast number of workers, and in many developing
countries, the clothing industry is the single largest employer of citizens. Employed women and men
work to produce the variety of clothing sold in countries such as America. Despite the substantial
employment in factories, many garment workers are often informally employed and home based thus
invisible and rarely represented in national statistics (WIEGO). Many of the women who work in this
field must work based on uncertain and rushed production and receive little pay, benefits or vacation.
In countries such as Bangkok, garment employees earn on average daily about 845 baht (approx. US )
for a seven hour day (WIEGO). Practices such as low wages and unstable conditions lead to a
disposable way of employing workers, and most factories or employers ignore demands for pay raises
or transparency. For instance, the Cambodian government is competing with the constant demands of
fast fashion companies and their manufacturers. Increasing expenses of living for the citizens have
made working in the garment industry more difficult. The employees of clothing factories have

wearing outfits with the clothing only pertaining to that brand. When looking for that outfit at times,
they would make it convenient and placed all the clothing in the same area so that the customers could
easily just buy the outfit. Another way they would set up the clothing is that they would scatter in
different parts of the outfits around the brands space in order to get customers to look for it and also
see different articles of clothing that may interest them. Starting from the right Macy s built up the

What Is The Battle Of Iwo Jima
The Battle of Iwo Jima No man is worth his salt who is not ready at all times to risk his well being, to
risk his body, to risk his life, in a great cause. Theodore Roosevelt The Battle of Iwo Jima was one of
the bloodiest battles in World War II. Oahu was attacked at around 7:55 by japanese Kamikaze pilots.
the USS Lexington was also claimed to have been bombed. The city of Oahu was in a state of distress
after being bombed as citizens were ordered off the streets. Pearl Harbor was the last blow that
America took before joining World War II. 2,403 americans were killed and 1,178 more were
wounded. The Battle of Iwo Jima started on February 19, 1945 and ended on March 26, 1945. Iwo

AFLAC believes in always motivating its employees to achieve their goals on a daily, weekly, and
monthly basis. Pat Patterson, manager of employee communication for AFLAC, states that, It s
continuing and ongoing. Employees have to know that daily, not just once a year that we think they re
significant. It wouldn t be worth anything if once a year were the only time .
Monetary Rewards
Research shows that monetary reward programs play a big part in attracting and retaining top
performing employees . Items such as base salary, short and long term incentives, health, welfare, and
retirement benefits are all items that AFLAC offers its employees. In addition to these, there are also
several incentive awards and contest available to AFLAC employees that offer monetary rewards
based off of performance. However, AFLAC also offers monetary rewards based off of service. For
example, AFLAC Way Honors is a recognition program that is tied to the company s 15 basics of
customer service . This is a program where colleagues are encouraged to nominate other colleagues
based off of that colleagues use and understanding of the 15 basics of customer service. Mangers
approve and set the award value in point which can be redeemed for merchandise.
Another program known as, The Spot Award, allows managers the opportunity to reward employees
who they see extending him or herself beyond the normal concerning helping a customer or colleague.

Sherman Alexie Flight Patterns
The story Flight Patterns by Sherman Alexie features a Native American of the Spokane Indian Tribe
that faces troubles with post 9/11 attacks. Alexie concentrates his story with remarks expressing the
emotional feelings of the American view of people with a medium to dark complexion. Alexie brings
contrast between two worlds. William, the main character, demonstrates the American view of people
who are perceived as a terrorist. Then, Fedaku, William s taxi driver, whom demonstrates the view of
a foreigner with a different life. Neither one of these men fit the profile of a terrorist, but is almost
always treated as a threat because of their appearance. For example William experiences and realizes
that we re all trapped by other people s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every time William is at the airport, he scans for little brown guys who reeked of fundamentalism
(Alexie 270). White Americans always gave William dirty looks, yet he was no different. Because
William is of Indian descent, he often gets characterized as a terrorist, but he also characterized a lot
of other people that looked the same way as him. The whole world relies on mass media because it is
today s way of retrieving information about the world. The media can either make you or break you.
In this case, the media made all people of color look like terrorists blaming them for actions of others.
Muslims are blamed for 9/11, and even though William is not a Muslim, he is stereotyped as a terrorist
because of his physical features. For example the invisibility of Native Americans in mass media
provides a unique vantage point for examining how media representations impact both identity and
self understanding (Leavitt) which means whenever you do see a Native American on media, they are
most likely shown as 19th or 18th century figures. Or they are stereotyped as poor, uneducated, and
prone to addictions (Leavitt) but in this case William is the exact opposite, yet he still gets stereotyped
as a different race because he does not meet the requirements for his own race. Not only is William
stereotyped but so is Fekadu, William s taxi driver. Fekadu is a Muslim Oramo member from Ethiopia,
yet people think [he is] black, they don t see [him] as a terrorist, only as a crack head addict on
welfare. Once again we are seeing someone being misjudged by their physical appearance even
though they are nowhere near the misinterpretations. Whichever type of media you look at, the
majority, if not all of them are unfavorable when it comes to the portraying of racial/ethnic groups.
These groups are always stereotyped and based on the racist actions done

Comparing Scarface 1932 And Scarface 1983
Remakes of films are a common occurrence. Sometimes remakes are incredible and introduce a
generation to great films of the past, however, sometimes they aim too high and miss the mark
completely. Scarface 1932 and Scarface 1983 is a great example of the latter. Scarface 1932 was the
first of its kind in many respects while Scarface 1983 fell short. While at the core of both of these
films they are the same, there are a few small plot discrepancies, but the message of the rise and fall of
a man is identical. Visually these films are nothing alike. Beyond the obvious use of color in the 1983
film, the lighting, spacing, and camera work are all different. Scarface 1932 was revolutionary in its
use of low key lighting while Scarface 1983 followed typical lighting conventions. The use of
symbolism in Scarface 1932 was an added layer of complexity to the film that Scarface 1983 did not
have. One thing both films did face quite extensively was censorship. Each film had to be heavily
altered in some way in order for the public to view them. While neither film was truly in the
production code era each film felt the effects regardless. On its own Scarface 1983 is not a bad film,
but when compared to Scarface 1932 it pales in comparison. When one looks into why remakes occur
so frequently, the answer that is found is nostalgia. Gangster films stem from nostalgia much like
westerns do however in both examples neither one is at all an accurate depiction of the time period.

The Midlife Crisis
Midlife crisis is defined as a period of emotional turmoil in middle age (40 60 years) characterized by
a strong desire for change (Argosy University Online, 2015). According to Tergesen (2014), a
continuing national study of midlife funded by the National Institute on Aging, reports that 26% of
adults ages 25 to 75 reported having had a midlife crisis (Tergesen, 2014).Among respondents who are
50 plus, slightly more, 35%, say they ve had one, but in the group that includes 30 and 40 age groups,
only about half reported having a change triggered by inner turmoil and angst, associated with getting
older, the link included things such as, job loss and divorce, which are not unique to midlife (Tergesen,
2014). Many of the participants in her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lacking a culturally viable ideal of old age, our civilization does not really harbor a concept of the
whole of life (Huffington Post, 2014). Some other cultures that celebrate aging and respect their elders
are: 1) Greek a central to the family is respect for elders, where old age is honored and celebrated; 2)
Native American in Native American cultures, elders pass down their knowledge and traditionally
accept death as a fact of life; 3) Korean regard for aging is rooted in the Confucian principle of filial
piety, a fundamental value dictating that one must respect one s parents; 4) India elders acts as the
head of the household and their advice is sort by younger family members; and 5) African American
death is seen as part of the natural rhythm of life, and an opportunity to celebrate life, which lessens
the cultural fear around aging (Huffington Post,

Saving The Economy
The Field Guide to Saving the U.S. Economy
Throughout the majority of history, currency has had to either be equal to or greater than the value of
what it was purchasing. This seems like a simple concept, but within the last fifty years this concept
has gone out the window. Today, we all agree that pieces of paper hold value that they do not have,
make coins that are not worth their value to produce, and act like it is sustainable. If we, as citizens of
not only our nations but of the world, do not alter our course, there will be a massive failure of our
system. No country is more pivotal in saving the world s economy than the United States. The U.S.
must change its monetary policy internally. If it does so, those benefits will spill over to ... Show more

Elementay Schools Classroom Observation
Some students in elementary school seem to breeze through their school years, whereas others
struggle, putting them at risk for getting lost in our educational system and not reaching their full
potential. Parents and teachers want to help students succeed, but there is little guidance as to which
learning techniques are the most effective for improving educational outcomes. This leads students to
implement studying strategies that are often ineffective, resulting in minimal gains in performance. As
educators, one of the main goals in the classroom is to have students be able to transfer the material
they learn in the classrooms and translate that to the real world. We must produce effective problem
solving and critical thinking skills in our young students so that they are ready to overcome any
problem that awaits them. In order to get a better understanding, I visited three schools in the
Selinsgrove area school district. I visited the Selinsgrove Intermediate and Elementary Schools and I
also visited the Child Development Center located on the campus of Susquehanna University. The first
classroom I observed was in the Intermediate School and the teacher that I observed was Mr. Moll.
Mr. Moll was a third grade teacher for the school district, and while visiting him, I noticed that he
seemed to be very energetic and encouraging towards his students. This is important when dealing
with students at such a young age because they can be influenced by anyone who is of higher

Homer Bad Man Analysis
Modern society relies heavily on media, a form of mass communication, to inherit its values and
beliefs on political and social issues occurring around the world. Two of the most common forms of
communication in this field are current affairs programs and news broadcasts. Due to the mass
production and high demand for news around the world, the images and stories presented to the public
are often skewed, therefore sometimes misrepresenting the truth behind the stories being reported on.
As media has become more commonplace in modern society, modern texts have explored this idea
more frequently. Both the television series, Frontline by Rob Sitch et al and The Simpsons episode
Homer Bad Man, written by Greg Daniels and directed by Jeffery Lynch ... Show more content on

The episode has the media depict Homer Simpson, the protagonist, as sexually harassing a younger
woman when the audience can see that Homer was really trying to retrieve his precious gummy bear
from the back of the woman s pants. When the woman retaliates to what she assumes is an act of
harassment, the media begin to get involved and a fictitious news station called Rock Bottom asks to
interview Homer to get his account of the story. The report begins with the woman portrayed as a
university honours student who devoted her life to kids, (Daniels Lynch, 1994, 10:46) and Homer as a
grossly overweight pervert. (Daniels Lynch, 1994, 10:49) When she is spoken about, the music is
angelic and sweet which suddenly contrasts to the sinister non diagetic sound played when Homer is
depicted. Later in the interview, Daniels and Lynch humorously show the blatant and obvious cuts in
the interview by the clock in the background constantly switching back and forward in time, and
Homer s words cutting from sweet and candy repeatedly. This mise en scene and use of cinematic
techniques within the show, is used to portray how easy it is for the media to misrepresent the truth
through film editing and other technological

Before I proceed with my usual banter, I would like to greet you and follow through with the formalities in our monthly letters. How are you and Pa? What are you up to during this time of despair? Anyways, on with my stories. This month I encountered one of my biggest personal achievements yet; I single handedly went into a German Aerodrome and was able to rid of three of their planes and fly back to our base intact. I know you and Pa always tell me that I should know that these are people that we are fighting against. But sometimes it is so hard to view these Germans as people. This applies to nationals of a MS or companies that are established in MS. We can t deal with freedom of movement of companies, as that s a highly complicated area and beyond our scope. There are a couple of logical steps in order to deduce whether there is a breach by a member state in your particular case. 1. Is the situation really one where establishment is at issue? 2. The court accepted that and lauded the necessity of protecting consumers, but the court held that it was disproportionate. • 5. Was The American Revolution Inevitable Dbq Was the American Revolution inevitable? According to John Adams in 1818, the desire for independence was already in the hearts of Americans long before war broke out in 1775. This was untrue for many loyalists living in the colonies in 1775. However, there was simply nothing the mother country could do to stop her colonies from wanting to move on from its natural state of identity in order to grow into a unique and independent country. To begin with, Richard Bland in his 1766 An Inquiry Into the Rights of the British Colonies believed that America should be independent as to their internal government, of the original Kingdom, but united with her, as to their external policy... The Stamp Act required colonists to purchase stamped paper for every legal document, license, and newspaper and imposed special stamped duties on packages of playing cards and dice. All who disobeyed the Act were to be tried in the vice admiralty courts. By May of 1765, Boston shopkeepers, artisans, and laborers united in a resistance group called Sons of Liberty. By the end of the summer, the Sons of Liberty harassed customs workers, stamp agents, and royal governors faced mob threats and hence stamp agents resigned all over. The Act was to become effective on November 1st, 1765, but colonial protests prevented stamped paper from being sold. In the month of October, 1765, delegates from nine colonies met in NYC. Congress issued a Declaration of Rights and Grievances: it stated that Parliament lacked power to impose taxes on the colonies because they were not represented in Parliament. This was the first time in which colonies began to set aside their differences and unite as one. Eventually, the Act was repealed and in 1766, Parliament issued the Declaratory Act: it addressed Parliament s full right to make laws in all cases whatsoever . The Tea Act was made in 1773 and it granted the East India Company the right to sell directly to the colonies, free of taxes, this would cut colonial merchants out of the tea trade because the company would sell for less. • 6. Rylands V Fletcher Question 6, April 2006: Solution to fe1 question Bell Computers could attach liability to either Chemical Supply or Industrial Estates under the tort of Rylands v Fletcher. Chemical Supply s Liability Rylands v Fletcher established that a person who for his own purposes brings on his lands and collects and keeps there anything likely to do mischief if it escapes, must keep it in at his peril, and if he does not do so , is prima facie answerable for all the damage which is the natural consequence of its escape. The rule therefore imposes strict liability on the defendant for all damage which occurs as a natural consequence of the escape, and there is no requirement for intent or neglect. The rule only applies to defendants who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Industrial Estate s Liability The rule in Rylands applies to owners of premises as well as occupiers, but Bell would have difficulty overcoming the proofs outlined in respect of Industrial, namely accumulation for Industrial s benefit etc. and the absence of any control by Industrial over the harmful substances. Liability would be more successfully attached to Industrial in negligence for its failure to keep the road in a good state of repair. Firstly, Bell will need to establish that it owed a duty of care to it. As Lord Atkin stated in O Donoghue v Stevenson you must take reasonable care to avoid acts or omission which you can reasonably foresee would be liable to injure your neighbour. While neighbour in this sense does not strictly mean persons who occupy the property beside you, it was established in Glencar Explorations v Mayo Co.Co. that if a plaintiff and defendant s relationship is sufficiently proximate, and the harm caused was foreseeable, then in the absence of policy limitations, a duty of care would arise. Bell should be able to establish a duty of care in that by failing to maintain the road in a good condition, it was reasonably foreseeable that such failure could cause injury to Bell s property, as Industrial knew that tanks full of harmful substances travelled on the road on a daily basis, and that if such chemicals were to escape due to an accident caused by the defective road, they would ... During the time of 1608, Lippershey tried to get ownership on his creation that allowed the device to have three times magnification, allowing you to see objects closer than what they truly are. The telescope that he had created had a concave eyepiece that lines up with a convex lens. To explain what a concave is the best description would be that it s an object that curves inward, like a flashlight or headlights on a car. The opposite of that is a convex, which is an object that curves outward. This caused a shift in his career as the Senate set him up permanently as a lecturer at the University of Padua. This led to his invention of the telescope, that like Lippershey was able to let far objects seem close. Galilei made the telescope with a magnification of twenty times and allowed him to be the first to point the telescope to the moon. This was a change in astronomy history as it allowed him to discover and uncover information about space. Third, the invention of the telescopic lenses was lastly led by Joseph Von Fraunhofer. African Americans And The United States Although African Americans make up merely fourteen percent of the U.S. population, thirty seven percent of people who are homeless are African Americans. Forty two percent of African American children are educated in all high poverty schools. In 2012, the mean critical reading SAT score for college accepted students was 428 for African Americans and 527 for whites. For mathematics, it was 428 for African Americans and 536 for whites. For writing it was 417 for African Americans and 515 for whites (National Center for Educational Statistics). These staggering data manage to encompass just a few of the issues that are prevalent among African Americans in the United States. However, people may find themselves wondering how these figures came to be; who is responsible and what can be done? Many will begin turning to stereotypes for justification of this issue: African Americans are lazy, African Americans are criminals, African Americans are indifferent towards education. Indeed, that shallow assumption can be made made based on sole observation, but further research unveils an extraordinarily different conclusion. In order to understand this, one must dig deep into the history books and study the turbulent past of African Americans. Darwin suggested that females preferred certain phenotypic traits as females could gain direct benefit from these, for example, certain male characters are able to provide resources or offspring and increase fecundity (Mota, 2010) . When discussing female long term mating strategies, it has been identified that there are certain preferences in which a female desire from a mate (Buss, 2008). Preferences include, a preference for economic resources, a preference for industriousness and ambition, a preference for a good physical appearance and health, and also a preference for dependability and stability. Females prefer someone they can invest in and someone that is willing to invest in them also. And they also desire a mate that can physically protect them and their children and that is both healthy and displays compatibility. There are preconditions as too why these preferences have evolved, such as the idea that resources have been made more defensible and accruable and are more controlled by men, and the idea that men would have to be different between each other in their willingness to somewhat invest their resources in both women and their children. • 13. The Fallout After World War 1 And The Great Depression The fallout after the World War 1 and the Great Depression saw the emergence of a literary preoccupation with the idea of fragmentation, and a cubist application to literature as a means of representing the 20th Century modern reality. Authors, poets, artists etc saw; cubism, expressionism and fragmentation as the best vehicles to depict the incomplete, broken lives of their subjects. With both modern and post modern literature making a conscious break away from previous realism, 20thC literature employed and explored subjectivism, whereby the author turned from the typical external reality to the inner consciousness of a character or subject, to reflect a motif/ theme as a whole. Modernist literature did so by exploring fragmentation in terms of narrative, how a character was constructed, the formation of passages and chapters, and how events unfolded. This typically surmounted to the creation of a sense of a chaotic universe, metaphysically unfounded, laced with the subconscious fears of characters and notions of alienation. This was successfully created by reconsidering and challenging the established conventions of perspective . Illustrated through relativity , artists combined visual consideration and memory into a concentrated still which they felt best documented the age in an abstract form, but which was wholly all the more realistic. With an ever changing culture and a strong force against certain changes, certain ethnic and social groups appear to be neglected by the lawmakers of America. One of the more recent occurrences of this has been the LBGT community. Up until 2014, marriage was not even legal between a same sex couple. After gay marriage was ruled legal, a landslide of other reforms were brought to attention. One of the more controversial topics being discussed today is the rights of the LBGT community in accordance to public bathrooms. They argue that anyone should be able to use whichever bathroom that matches with their identified gender. The definition of gender and the rights that accompany them is constantly being updated and adjusted. Because of this sudden movement, social issues are sparking outrage and debate on whether this argument should be implemented into society. This issue has dominated the media and has caused chaos on both sides of the spectrum. Members of the LBGT community should not be able to use whatever bathroom they please. The U.S. federal government is backing the issue of gender neutral bathrooms. Characterism In Looking For Alibrandi By Melina Marchetta he novel, Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta, focuses on a 17 year old teenager who has an Italian background called Josephine Alibrandi. Josephine is really two different people at the beginning and the end of the book. In the beginning, Josephine is overdramatic, poised to react to her Italian background and her illegitimacy. At the end of the book, Josephine began to achieve emancipation. She has learnt that she has blown her problems out of proportion, that not everyone is about to execute her for being Italian and illegitimate. Josephine s interaction with the other characters has brought this about. She faced quite a number of challenges in her final year. They include the arrival of Michael Andretti and her change of perspective and attitude towards Nonna Katia. In the beginning of the novel, Josephine s attitude towards Nonna was very atrocious. Despite the fact that she disliked Nonna, she still has to come to her house every afternoon after school. In comparing and contrasting Flannery O Connor s A Good Man is Hard to Find and Joyce Carol Oates s Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been the stories contain very different plots, but they both have similarities between the characters Arnold Friend and Misfit. They appear to be mentally unstable and highly selfish by only caring about their needs. For example, Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been Arnold Friend shows his mentality and selfishness by harming the main character Connie by being highly persistent. In A Good Man is Hard to Find the Misfit showed his mentality and selfishness by killing the grandmother when she was trying to bring out faith and his good side when the situation escalated when the car crashed. Regardless of these two completely different stories, there are several similarities between the characters Arnold Friend and Misfit in their personalities. In the story Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been Connie, the main character, is already struggling with many things in life and sneaks her way to date guys. There was also conflicting between her and her mother due to her mother favoring her sister, June and describing her as someone who is a good example of what she wants Connie to be. Her father is never at home due to work and when he is home, the girls do not relate to him. Arnold Friend is described as a dangerous figure with his pale complexion and his slick black hair looking like trouble by not presenting himself in a pleasing way to Connie, by not walking properly. This was an indication on how he was not in the right state of mind and how Arnold shouldn t be near Connie. There was one scene in the story where Arnold Friend shows up, uninvited, notifying Connie that he is not a friend, but has come to take her away from her home to possibly kidnap her. Connie felt a wave of dizziness, rise in her at this sight and she stared at him as if waiting for something to change the shock of the moment, make it alright again . According to Merriam Webster, a cult is a religious group that is not part of an accepted religion because their beliefs are seen as extreme and/or dangerous. Cults have carried out many attacks and have caused many deaths due to their beliefs. Cult leaders are the controllers that have the reins to their followers minds. They can brainwash them into believing and doing whatever they desire in order to feel power. Many people have gone to great extents to harm others and even themselves. Many have killed for their devotion to their leader. How can leaders achieve such control over others? Everything that cult leaders use to manipulate all comes down to psychology. In his work, Sentences, Bonaventure modestly defines creation as as the loving outflow of a loving God whose infinite dynamic goodness is shared in a limited dynamic way. Creation is God s other. God doesn t have to create since God is infinitely bountiful and self communicative within Himself. Creation flows out of the infinite fountain of divine self diffusive goodness because God is creative and loving. The Father freely desires to create because God is love, and perfect love can never be self contained it must be shared. Bonaventure indicates that the world exists by virtue of the free creative power of divine love. Creation is a free act of divine goodness spilling forth from the infinite divine community of love. Bonaventure uses the term emanation to describe the expression of creation from the loving community of a triune God. Emanation used in the Christian sense means that creation flows out of the infinite, transcendent one. Bonaventure metaphorically writes, Creation is like a river, which flows from a spring, spreads throughout the land to purify and fructify it, and eventually flows back to its point of origin. • 25. Telescopes Are Those That Use Both Mirrors And Lenses Catadioptric: Catadioptric telescopes are those that use both mirrors and lenses to produce an image. The most common or popular type of catadioptric telescope is the Schmidt Cassegrain telescope. Schmidt Cassegrain telescopes (SCT) are a catadioptric design, meaning they use both lenses and mirrors. SCTs are primarily reflecting telescopes, but they use a corrector lens to eliminate aberrations that would result from the mirror design alone. In an SCT the incoming light passes through the Schmidt corrector lens (also called a corrector plate) at the front of telescope. It is reflected from a concave primary mirror at the back of the scope which focuses the light to the front of the telescope where it is reflected again by a smaller, convex secondary mirror. Finally, the light travels back through a hole in the primary mirror to the rear of the scope where an eyepiece is located for visual observing. (Starizona.com, 2015) Below is a ray diagram of a Schmidt Cassegrain telescope: (A levelphysicstutor.com, 2015) At first it seems that an SCT should have a focal length twice as long as the length of the tube, since the light travels twice the length of the tube. However, SCTs actually have focal lengths about 5 times longer than the tube length. This is due to the convex curvature of the secondary mirror. This effectively magnifies the focal length, making the scope act much longer than it is. The diagram below shows how a Cassegrain type telescope (such as an SCT) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s a contemporary film focused around the theme of classism in society, driven by metaphors for where we are and where we are going. With an almost mashup of Orwell meeting the 99%, the story focuses on the inhabitants of the suppressed population of the train s tail section, led by Chris Evans Curtis, revolting against the forward living. The film s narrative in relation to its theme is the focal point of the film and it s main driving force. By using a linear narrative, Joon ho allows the story to move forward as the characters move towards the front of train. With each decision Curtis makes, the blocking of his movements is always in a forward motion. • 31. The Rhetorical Analysis Of The Hope Speech By Harvey Milk Homosexual people have been misrepresented and refuted their basic civil rights in America over the years, especially during the late 1970s. During this time, Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in California, was one of the most prominent spokesman on the issues surrounding gay rights. In 1978 he gave a speech impacting the gay citizens of San Francisco and America, the anti gay right wing movement supporters, straight allies of the gay movement, and politicians in general. His speech known as the Hope Speech resonates with people even today as Milk attempted to address gay rights and the importance of electing gay officials in office, using various rhetorical strategies such as pathos, logos, and elevated diction. As a skilled speaker, Milk bridged the gap between the majority of his audience who were not too familiar with homosexuality and those who were. In his speech he uses pathos to persuade people to join or at least sympathize with his cause, logos to provide a logistical argument with reason, and ethos to increase credibility. Throughout the speech Milk uses pathos to connect emotionally to the different audiences he is addressing. To his straight allies, he proclaims that an ally can not be elected to represent gays because friends can t feel the anger and frustration. They can sense it in us, but they can t feel it. Because a friend has never gone through what is known as coming out. This topic also strikes a chord in his gay audience, as coming out is a difficult and terrifying process. He addresses other minority groups, asking indirectly for their sympathy and assistance, alluding to the African American civil rights movement of the sixties, and the Latin American culture s struggles. He references Anita Bryant, an outspoken right wing activist, and tells his audiences not to fear her or believe her, for she is wrong in her assumptions about gay people. He also talks of the event in San Francisco where a young man was killed for being gay, causing the audience to sympathize and also create a sense of urgency for people to make a change. Due to the lack of protection Chang tells us that gangs were created as a means of protection from the junkies and other scavengers. They attacked other members who wore their colors on another gang s turf. South Bronx became a very dangerous place full of nothing but youthful gangs and gang related violence. Others acknowledge an unknown force that shapes their lives, which they have no control over. This conflict can be explained by the Determinism theory. Determinism is a philosophy described as human beings having no free will and therefore, cannot control their own actions and should not be held accountable. This philosophy is seen in Edith Wharton s short story Roman Fever by her characters Mrs. Slade and Mrs. Ansley as they argue about a letter and an affair in the duration of the story. Wharton s main characters are on opposing sides of the philosophy of determinism, with Mrs. Slade representing determinism and Mrs. Ansley representing free will, respectively and each effectively showing Wharton s disagreement to determinism. If the items in the front are folded and coordinated then customers are attracted and more likely to buy. Usually the beginning stands display new clothing to excite their customers of the new trends and inventory they should check out. Tables are placed in the front so that customers can easily access the clothing they are looking for. They also give some examples of what they could find behind the stands. For example, if the clothing on the tables has neatly folded sweaters, then the clothing racks behind would have the same sweaters and pants that would match. Big displays of mannequins were placed around the stores in order to attract customers to that certain brand. The models would be wearing outfits with the clothing only pertaining to that brand. When looking for that outfit at times, they would make it convenient and placed all the clothing in the same area so that the customers could easily just buy the outfit. Another way they would set up the clothing is that they would scatter in different parts of the outfits around the brands space in order to get customers to look for it and also see different articles of clothing that may interest them. Starting from the right Macy s built up the outfit from socks to head wear then to clothing, shoes, and lastly jewelry/makeup in the middle to complete their look. • 43. Sherman Alexie Flight Patterns The story Flight Patterns by Sherman Alexie features a Native American of the Spokane Indian Tribe that faces troubles with post 9/11 attacks. Alexie concentrates his story with remarks expressing the emotional feelings of the American view of people with a medium to dark complexion. Alexie brings contrast between two worlds. William, the main character, demonstrates the American view of people who are perceived as a terrorist. Then, Fedaku, William s taxi driver, whom demonstrates the view of a foreigner with a different life. Neither one of these men fit the profile of a terrorist, but is almost always treated as a threat because of their appearance. Every time William is at the airport, he scans for little brown guys who reeked of fundamentalism (Alexie 270). White Americans always gave William dirty looks, yet he was no different. Because William is of Indian descent, he often gets characterized as a terrorist, but he also characterized a lot of other people that looked the same way as him. The whole world relies on mass media because it is today s way of retrieving information about the world. The media can either make you or break you. In this case, the media made all people of color look like terrorists blaming them for actions of others. Muslims are blamed for 9/11, and even though William is not a Muslim, he is stereotyped as a terrorist because of his physical features. For example the invisibility of Native Americans in mass media provides a unique vantage point for examining how media representations impact both identity and self understanding (Leavitt) which means whenever you do see a Native American on media, they are most likely shown as 19th or 18th century figures. Or they are stereotyped as poor, uneducated, and prone to addictions (Leavitt) but in this case William is the exact opposite, yet he still gets stereotyped as a different race because he does not meet the requirements for his own race. Not only is William stereotyped but so is Fekadu, William s taxi driver. Fekadu is a Muslim Oramo member from Ethiopia, yet people think [he is] black, they don t see [him] as a terrorist, only as a crack head addict on welfare. Once again we are seeing someone being misjudged by their physical appearance even though they are nowhere near the misinterpretations. Whichever type of media you look at, the majority, if not all of them are unfavorable when it comes to the portraying of racial/ethnic groups. These groups are always stereotyped and based on the racist actions done ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Comparing Scarface 1932 And Scarface 1983 Remakes of films are a common occurrence. Sometimes remakes are incredible and introduce a generation to great films of the past, however, sometimes they aim too high and miss the mark completely. Scarface 1932 and Scarface 1983 is a great example of the latter. Scarface 1932 was the first of its kind in many respects while Scarface 1983 fell short. While at the core of both of these films they are the same, there are a few small plot discrepancies, but the message of the rise and fall of a man is identical. Visually these films are nothing alike. Beyond the obvious use of color in the 1983 film, the lighting, spacing, and camera work are all different. Scarface 1932 was revolutionary in its use of low key lighting while Scarface 1983 followed typical lighting conventions. The use of symbolism in Scarface 1932 was an added layer of complexity to the film that Scarface 1983 did not have. One thing both films did face quite extensively was censorship. Each film had to be heavily altered in some way in order for the public to view them. While neither film was truly in the production code era each film felt the effects regardless. On its own Scarface 1983 is not a bad film, but when compared to Scarface 1932 it pales in comparison. When one looks into why remakes occur so frequently, the answer that is found is nostalgia. Gangster films stem from nostalgia much like westerns do however in both examples neither one is at all an accurate depiction of the time period. Many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Saving The Economy The Field Guide to Saving the U.S. Economy Throughout the majority of history, currency has had to either be equal to or greater than the value of what it was purchasing. This seems like a simple concept, but within the last fifty years this concept has gone out the window. Today, we all agree that pieces of paper hold value that they do not have, make coins that are not worth their value to produce, and act like it is sustainable. If we, as citizens of not only our nations but of the world, do not alter our course, there will be a massive failure of our system. • 47. Elementay Schools Classroom Observation Some students in elementary school seem to breeze through their school years, whereas others struggle, putting them at risk for getting lost in our educational system and not reaching their full potential. Parents and teachers want to help students succeed, but there is little guidance as to which learning techniques are the most effective for improving educational outcomes. This leads students to implement studying strategies that are often ineffective, resulting in minimal gains in performance. As educators, one of the main goals in the classroom is to have students be able to transfer the material they learn in the classrooms and translate that to the real world. We must produce effective problem solving and critical thinking skills in our young students so that they are ready to overcome any problem that awaits them. In order to get a better understanding, I visited three schools in the Selinsgrove area school district. I visited the Selinsgrove Intermediate and Elementary Schools and I also visited the Child Development Center located on the campus of Susquehanna University. The first classroom I observed was in the Intermediate School and the teacher that I observed was Mr. Moll. Mr. Moll was a third grade teacher for the school district, and while visiting him, I noticed that he seemed to be very energetic and encouraging towards his students. This is important when dealing with students at such a young age because they can be influenced by anyone who is of higher ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Homer Bad Man Analysis Modern society relies heavily on media, a form of mass communication, to inherit its values and beliefs on political and social issues occurring around the world. Two of the most common forms of communication in this field are current affairs programs and news broadcasts. Due to the mass production and high demand for news around the world, the images and stories presented to the public are often skewed, therefore sometimes misrepresenting the truth behind the stories being reported on. As media has become more commonplace in modern society, modern texts have explored this idea more frequently. The episode has the media depict Homer Simpson, the protagonist, as sexually harassing a younger woman when the audience can see that Homer was really trying to retrieve his precious gummy bear from the back of the woman s pants. When the woman retaliates to what she assumes is an act of harassment, the media begin to get involved and a fictitious news station called Rock Bottom asks to interview Homer to get his account of the story. The report begins with the woman portrayed as a university honours student who devoted her life to kids, (Daniels Lynch, 1994, 10:46) and Homer as a grossly overweight pervert. (Daniels Lynch, 1994, 10:49) When she is spoken about, the music is angelic and sweet which suddenly contrasts to the sinister non diagetic sound played when Homer is depicted. Later in the interview, Daniels and Lynch humorously show the blatant and obvious cuts in the interview by the clock in the background constantly switching back and forward in time, and Homer s words cutting from sweet and candy repeatedly. This mise en scene and use of cinematic techniques within the show, is used to portray how easy it is for the media to misrepresent the truth through film editing and other technological ...
