Articles Of Confederation Vs US Constitution
The idea of state government came from the Articles of Confederation. The Articles of
Confederation were the first type of government the US had, and they were based on the state s
powers. Soon, the Framers of the US saw that the Articles of Confederation were not working, and
each state was like it s own country. The Framers met at the Constitutional Convention, and there
were two sides as to how the US Constitution should be written. The Federalists wanted a strong
Central government, but the Anti Federalists wanted a government that gave the power to the
states. There was a compromise made, and a central government was created, but also the states
were given their own government. There are many similarities between the two governments, but...

The state government system is the bottom, the foundation of United States. Then, it moves up into
the federal government which is at the top of the power chain. This whole concept shows that the
state and federal government must have some the same policies and systems to work together, the
way it does. Although, It must be somewhat different, otherwise a compromise would have never
been made at the Constitutional Convention. Overall, this shows that the United States government
gets all of its power from the citizens of the United States of

Beach Erosion In Virginia Beach
Erosion has the ability to ruin large buildings or simply be an inconvenience to someone. Erosion
happens gradually and it happens by wind or water breaking pieces of an object. Humans are said
to have made the process faster. We are tearing trees and dirt and replace it with infrastructure.
Tearing down nature makes erosionmore liable. Since we have learned how we speed up erosion
and how erosion is bad for our creations, we can use that knowledge to know how to handle those
problems. First of all, farmers or gardeners acknowledge erosion and take into consideration of
how to deal with it. When farmers or gardeners plough their plants, the topsoil can easily be
eroded with wind or run offs. This can create problems for local streams or for the soil. People
learned to use other plants like bushes to counter wind erosion, also know as windbreak .... Show

If any architecture is structured poorly, erosion can easily contribute with destroying it.
Architects have to design a building in a way that will be sturdy to complications like erosion.
Lastly, in Virginia Beach, shoreline erosion is a main issue that is hard to counter. A temporary
way to manage beach erosion is by beach nourishment . Beach nourishment is replacing sand, that
was lost by erosion. It a controversial solution, but it is one of the most popular way to solve
beach erosion. It is impossible to stop erosion altogether because it is a natural occurrence.
Fortunately, humans have figured ways to handle erosion and even to use it to our advantage at
times. Without erosion the Grand Canyon, one of the seven natural wonders of the world, and the
Niagara Falls would not exist. Erosion may be troublesome to people, but erosion was not meant for

Battle Of Bataan
The Battle of Bataan was a significant turning point battle in the war for the Americans and the
Japanese. The battle was fought from January 7, 1942 to April 9, 1942. The Allies, who were
commanded by General Douglas MacArthur, fought the Axis powers who were commanded by
Lieutenant General Masaharu Homma. The Allied powers started out strong with 79,500 armed
men while the Axis powers started out with 75,000 men. After the invasion of Pearl Harbor, the
Japanese continued to attack the US owned island of the Philippines. Macarthur started to prepare
the US to defend the island of Luzon, near Bataan in the Philippines. Specifically, he wanted the US
to defend Legaspi, which was located in southern Luzon. As the Japanese started to invade,

Summary Of Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell To Arms
World War I was a time of constant worry and woe for the destruction caused to the European
countryside. Ernest Hemingway depicts the life of an American ambulance driver working for the
Italian army through the Great War in the semi autobiographical A Farewell to Arms, incorporating
elements of his own experience in the war into that of his narrator Fredric Henry. One of the most
effective tools to display the destruction and chaos of this war was Hemingway s writing style,
clearly seen in the opening of Chapter Twenty One. This passage, while introducing a devastating
point of the war to the reader, demonstrates Hemingway s dark but witty style through the
discursive and wistful tone, varying figures of speech, and repetitive and brutal diction in order to
effectively convey the current state of the narrator and the war.
Hemingway s tone, shown through the narrator s lack of focus on one particular subject as well
as the almost wistful remarks of past events, reflects not only the unorganized chaos occurring in
the Italian countryside but also the author s dark style. The dismal mood illustrates the chaos in a
passive and distant way, creating a sober tone that contributes to the dark style. Fredric Henry
laments because that [t]he fighting at the front went very badly , there was no more racing as well
as riots twice in the town against the war (Hemingway 116). As the narrator looks back on these
events, there is also an element of nostalgia and longing towards the

Federal Trade Commission And Dental Examiners
Introduction Last February, the Supreme Court issued its opinion in North Carolina State Board of
Dental Examiners v. Federal Trade Commission (Dental Examiners). The case concerned the Board
s decision to stop teeth whitening services by non dentists in the state. The Federal Trade
Commission alleged that the Board had violated antitrust laws by attempting to limit competition
by its teeth whitening decision. State entities such as the Board generally were thought to have
immunity from antitrust laws, but the Supreme Court s decision reversed this long held belief and
found that state boards could be held liability if certain conditions were met. The major condition
was that the board be made up of a majority of active market... Show more content on

Finally, the second part will address how states have responded to Dental Examiners, and what
Kansas can do to address the decision.
Background
To be understand the Dental Examiners decision, it is important to understand the legal background
for the case. To do this, we first have to examine the broader area of law that surrounds antitrust
liability. Secondly, we need to examine the Parker doctrine, which creates antitrust immunity for
states. Finally, we need to look at Dental Examiners itself and its background.
Antitrust Liability A preliminary question is what is antirust liability? While there are other
statutes, the Sherman Antitrust Actis the signature law prohibiting antitrust activity. The act defines
antitrust activity as any restraint of trade or commerce. It also prevents persons from monopolizing
or attempting to monopolizing trade. The act is only concerned with restrains of trade that are
unreasonably restrictive of competitive conditions. A secondary requirement is that there be
concerted action, which requires more than unilateral behavior by individual actors. Examples of
antitrust violations include price fixing, allocations of territory or customers, and exclusive dealing
agreements. Antitrust laws can be enforced either through actions brought by

Homestead Act
I THESIS STATEMENT The Homestead Act of 1862 made surveyed lands obtainable to
homesteaders. The act stated that men and women over the age of 21, unmarried women who
were head of households and married men under the age of 21, who did not own over 160 acres
of land anywhere, were citizens or intended on becoming citizens of the United States, were eligible
to homestead. This paper will show how the Homestead Actcame to be enacted, who the
homesteaders were and the effects of the Homestead Act on the pioneers.
II WHAT EVENTS LEAD TO THE HOMESTEAD ACT?
The distribution of Government lands had been an issue since the Revolutionary War. Early
methods for allocating unsettled land outside the original 13 colonies were chaotic. ... Show more

With the secession of the Southern states from the Union and the removal of the slavery issue,
finally in 1862, the Homestead Act was passed and signed by President Abraham Lincoln. The
new law established a three fold homestead acquisition process: filing an application, improving
the land, and filing for deed of title. Any U.S. citizen, or intended citizen, who had never borne
arms against the U.S. Government could file an application and lay claim to 160 acres of
surveyed Government land. For the next 5 years, the homesteader had to live on the land and
improve it by building a 12 by 14 dwelling and growing crops. After 5 years, the homesteader
could file for his patent (or deed of title) by submitting proof of residency and the required
improvements to a local land office. Local land offices forwarded the paperwork to the General
Land Office in Washington, DC, along with a final certificate of eligibility. The case file was
examined, and valid claims were granted patent to the land free and clear, except for a small
registration fee. Title could also be acquired after a 6 month residency and trivial improvements,
provided the claimant paid the government $1.25 per acre. After the Civil War, Union soldiers
could deduct the time they served from the residency requirements. Before the Act was repealed in
1934, over 1.6 million homestead applications were processed and more than 270

Creativity In Amos Vogel s Film As A Subversive Art
Introduction
Creativity has been an inherent part of human experience since remote times when visual forms
helped our ancestors to communicate leaving us with many recorded moments of their history. In a
creative process multiple aspects bind together, things come out the intellect but also there are other
states of consciousness and unconsciousness phenomena involved. A similar thing occurs in the
contemplation of a piece, where we can have different interpretations, various sensations and
opinions, but in one way or another through art humans develop common connections in between
individual experiences. Art cultivates sensitivity and it can be used to explore the world in new

The New Model Intelligence Led Approach
As the new lieutenant in charge of policing violent crime in the city, the increase of violent crimes
has been brought to my knowledge. Understanding that, some changes will be implementing into
our department. For the past two months the amount of knowledge I have encounter when dealing
within the criminal justice agencies, has been a lot. However, it has been the major key to making
an organization have structure, a mission to oblige by, as well reducing the crimerate effectively. In
this dissertation (meeting) a discussion of the new model intelligence led approach will be

improve the reduction of crimes. Finally, a goal will be presented on how to go about
implementing the evidence based practice chosen.
In the course of learning these programs, distinguishing the best approach for the department will
be difficult at first, but once that portion is articulated, keeping it together and following the rules
and regulations are going to be easy, if every individual listens and is willing to be a part of this
journey as the unit evolve for the better, and sake of the community. There are many intelligence

the agency. Intelligence led policing, is all about how the police articulates the information or data

Wyatt Earp s Tombstone
In many modern period piece movies, the screenwriters put extra effort in world building so that
the film s story can seem more real. One example of this kind of movie is 1993 s Tombstone.
Tombstone follows Wyatt Earp and his family in their struggle to peacefully live alongside a
violent gang called the Cowboys. Between periods of tense hostility and character growth, this
film gives viewers a wide and varied scope of how life was in 1881 Arizona. Opening the movie
is a newsreel style of narration which sets up how Arizona was in 1879. It began with the
explanation that silver based riches were being found and founded in the Arizona area through
mining for the gem and providing goods and services. Promise of this paradise prompted farmers,...

The lead woman in this movie comes into town with an acting troupe and says that her heaven is
room service and traveling around the world. This is a typical draw for Easterners to come to
the West as it was a wildly different place they did not need to cross an Ocean for. This woman,
Josie Marcus, also is seen as vile for being with a man for looks but not love. Calamity Jane ran
into similar issues with her persona as evidenced by this situation: Her masculine prowess,
symbolized by her aggressive movements, conventional male clothing, and gun were acceptable in
the ring, but not back stage (Russel 30). Even on the men s side where Wyatt Earpis seen as the
quintessential frontiersman as stated by Fabian, note the lean silhouette, eyes closed by the sun
yet sharp as a hawk, he s got the look of both predator and prey, there are men who show different
traits. Billy is a character who seems to be on the outskirts of society as he calls the Cowboys
his friends yet all they ever do is laugh at him. The reason for this may be revealed through later
revelations as he shows homosexual feelings for Fabian. This is shown through his words and tone
when speaking about him as well as how he reacts to Fabians death: quickly squeezing the dead
hand and running from the Cowboys. Public perception of homosexuality at the time was that it
was scientifically reviled. Peter Boag found in his report of this subject that, precisely at this time
so called experts began to classify unusual sexualities as medical issues. They lumped together
under the rubric sexual inversion a host of what they considered perversions, including what later
would be separately understood as homosexuality, transsexuality, and hermaphroditism. Together,
these themes show great detail into what gender roles were in 1881 Arizona and how strictly they

Pirated and Counterfiet Software
Ethics is one of the fundamental building blocks for all organizations. Specifically, information
ethics directly relates to Management Information Systems. Information ethics includes the ethical
and moral issues arising from the development and use of information technologies. This also
includes the creation, collection, duplication, distribution, and processing of information itself with
the aid of computer technologies. This paper will focus on the illegal duplication and distribution of
software. There are two primary ethical areas concerning software: Pirated software and counterfeit
software. Pirated software is the unauthorized use, duplication, distribution, or sale of copyrighted
software. Software publishers maintain ownership of the software they create and only they control
the right to duplicate and distribute their products. Counterfeit software is software that is
manufactured to resemble authentic software and is sold as such. This could include the illegal
copying and distribution of commercial software on DVD or CD. This is typically accomplished
using a CD burner. New technology has made it much easier for consumers to be deceived by
counterfeiters via high quality packaging and fake products that are nearly impossible to
distinguish from authentic software. Software publishers are continuously looking for ways for
consumers to be able to distinguish whether they have purchased authentic or counterfeit
merchandise. Many companies are attempting to

2 October 2017 Beowulf as a Reflection of Anglo Saxon Hero
Every epic hero expresses certain heroic characteristics. The epic poem Beowulf by Seamus
Heaney describes the most heroic man of the Anglo Saxon times. Beowulf is the hero. He shows
that he is a great man by always placing other things before his own needs. He is important and
needed by his people and is known by many as a strong, powerful and a helpful hero. As the time
changes the qualities of an Anglo saxon hero have never changed.
There are different heroic characteristics, in which Beowulf demonstrates. The first of these
characteristics is honor. Honor is when Beowulf is willing to put his own life in danger for the
benefit of helping his people. Beowulf went to the land of the Danes to kill Grendel, because
Grendel is a monster who tries to eat humans. Beowulf fought Grendel because he wanted to
help out the Geats. Beowulf felt as if it was the right thing to do since he had been successful in
past life. Also, Beowulf kills Grendel because he was attacking Heorot. Hrothgar is another
character that has encourage beowulf throughout his life, Go on, dear Beowulf, do everything
you said you would when you were still young and vowed you would never let your name and
fame be dimmed while you lived. Your deeds are famous, so stay resolute, my lord, defend your
life now with the whole of your strength (Beowulf 2662 2667). Beowulf is doing everything that
any other hero would want to accomplish. Beowulf has been able and also willing to protect his
people and also willing to go into danger no matter of possible outcomes. Beowulf explains The
fact it, Unferth if you were truly as keen or courageous as you claim to be Grendel would never
have got away with such unchecked atrocity, attacks on your king, Havoc in Heorot and horrors
everywhere (Beowulf 590 594). When Beowulf speaks these words, he shows his courage, and
displays himself as the Anglo Saxon warrior that he is. Death for a warrior is honorable, and
courage must be shown through deeds,

The Pros And Cons Of The Prohibition Era
The Prohibition Era, 1920 1933, was a time of turmoil and conflict as the ban of alcohol brought
with it the growth of organized crime in United States. The nationwide prohibition of alcohol was
introduced to solve social issues and most significantly, lower crime and corruption. Initially
established due to nationwide Temperance movements stating that banning alcohol would decrease
crime, however the banning of alcohol led to increased organized crime. Organized crime in
America grew during Prohibition due to the mafia, gangs and the mob utilizing the public demand
for alcohol for their own economic gain, bootlegging alcohol, using extortion and violence, all in is
larger quantities than was present before the 18th Amendment was passed. A Public demand for
alcohol and lack of enforcement of the 18th Amendment led to such an unsuccessful movement and
eventually the first United States Constitution Amendment to be repealed fully. The results of the

This behavior is a fixed action pattern. A proximate explanation for this would be that the behavior
is triggered by the sign stimulus of an object outside the nest. Once started, the behavior must be

Circannual rhythms are based on the cycles of light and dark in the environment. If global climate

Define: Currency
Currency: curВ·renВ·cy /Л€kЙ™rЙ™nsД“/ noun a system of money in general use in a particular
country.
Introduction:
Money and Currency have always been a widely discussed topic, it is believed that if you
understand the economy you can have anything you could ever wish for, for this reason research
into my topic has been interesting. There is an abundance of information on the topic, and many
sources contain individual opinions which I believe are invaluable for research such as this
because it provides a perspective I would have otherwise not seen. It is widely accepted that
Currency consists only of an agreement within a community to use something as a medium
exchange and that a community no longer refers to a few hundred in a town but a few billion all
spread out across the globe. Although the means in which we pay for things change as time moves
on, the very nature of Currency stays the same.
When discussing currency the first thought that comes to mind is cold hard cash, the very form of
money that fuels our everyday lives. However, the very nature of the dollar is something beyond
the scope of a simple definition, to fully understand currency we must start at a simpler level; that
simple level being a LET System. A local exchange trading system; abbreviated to LETS or
LETSystem is a locally initiated, democratically organised, not for profit community enterprise that

Alzheimer s Disease And Its Effects
Alzheimer s in its Full Effect Alzheimer s disease is named after German physician, Dr. Alois
Alzheimer. In 1906, Dr. Alzheimer noticed changes that happened in the brain tissue of Auguste D.,
who had died of an unusual mental illness. Her symptoms included memory loss, language
problems, and unpredictable behavior. So, what exactly is Alzheimer s? It is an irreversible,
progressive braindisorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills, and eventually the
ability to carry out the simplest tasks. Alzheimer s has been detected in nearly 15% of people 71
years of age or older because it is caused by a genetic mutation, the disease gets worse over time,

The Genetic Alzheimer s disease form is extremely rare. A few hundred people have genes that
directly contribute to Alzheimer s disease. The majority of people with early onset Alzheimer s
disease have the common form of the disease. The disease will progress in roughly the same way
as it does in older people with Alzheimer s. Alzheimer s disease leads to nerve cell death and
tissue loss throughout the brain. Over time, the brain shrinks dramatically, affecting nearly all of
its functions. In advanced Alzheimer s, the surface layer that covers the cerebrum, shrinks and
withers. This damage to the cortex destroys the normal ability to plan ahead, recall, and
concentrate. Alzheimer s also affects the hippocampus. This part of the brain plays an important
role in memory. The disease causes the hippocampus to shrivel, which harms the brain s ability
to create new memories. The ability of doctors to diagnose the disease has improved in recent

Analysis Of The Book In Brooklyn
In Brooklyn, the author, Colm ToМЃibiМЃn, tells a coming of age immigration story set in the
1950s about Eilis Lacey, a young woman from Enniscorthy, Ireland. Eilis travels from her
hometown in County Wexford to Brooklyn, New York with the help of Father Flood and her
sister, Rose. Eilis is confronted with homesickness, love, and identity crisis throughout the story.
Although Brooklyn is about Eilis s journey, Rose plays an important role in her life. Rose is Eilis
s older sister who still lives at home with Eilis and their mother. Rose helps support them with
money for food, movies, clothes and even Eilis s schooling by working in the office of Davis s
Mills. While in Brooklyn, Eilis and Rose send letters back and forth until Rose suddenly dies in
her sleep and leaves their mother all alone. Colm ToМЃibiМЃn s creates Rose to be the heroic
character of the novel. Initially Rose does seem manipulative but soon proves to be a hero. In this
essay I will argue that Rose is not completely manipulative, but that she is actually a combination
of both heroism and manipulation; she is a helpful person who sometimes uses manipulation to
achieve this. In the beginning of Brooklyn, Eilis gets a job as a shopkeeper for Miss Kelly s
grocery store and Rose disapproves of it. When Rose gets the opportunity to play golf with an
American priest, Father Flood, she invites him for tea. Eilis soon realizes that Rose tacitly arranged
for Father Flood to come to the house because she knew that

The Existence Of Evil By Blackburn Theory
Introduction: 53 In Blackburn theory I am going to argue that his theory the existence of evil
strongly suggests that there does not exist a God who is all good, all knowing and all powerful to
be false. In my argument I will try to present facts that show the existence of God and why there is
evil.
Exposition: 313 In Blackburn s argument he basically mentions that because there is evil in the
world there is no existence of a present creator. It is impossible to see the suffering that s going
on in the world and suggest that it s a part of a good plan. Why would a creator of all good be
able to stand by and watch individuals suffer, and of all knowing and powerful why not put an
end to all suffering at once. Logically a creator of all good and all powerful would be able to put a
stop to suffering and evil immediately. Blackburn also mentions that religious individuals state that
because of free will the world is what it is today. The notion that Godcreated a perfect world with
humans having free will and because of the misuse of that free will evil is present. Blackburn is
against this idea total, he mentioned we couldn t have free will without the influence of the past
we can be free to do whatever we want and potentially to be blame for it, but the will is the
influence of the past so we basically doing what the past tell us which is determinism. Blackburn
also states that it s not only human decisions that inflict evil

A Long History Of Unequal Treatment Among Ethnic Minority...
Introduction
In the United States, there is a long history of unequal treatment among ethnic minority groups,
particularly for African Americans. Unfortunately, this injustice also appears in education.
Sociologists have affirmed the importance of education in shaping the economic and social
prospects of individuals. As all communities in the United States have been diversified, it becomes
crucial to recognize and properly deal with diversity within the classroom. All studnets should be
guaranteed to have equal opportunities for quality education at school. However, racism is still
prevalent in many schools today (Beswick, 4, 1990, Pennino, 2007). Racism now has different
forms, like the individual instructions student can get from their teachers, and the acceptance of
students among their classmates. These can have negative and lasting effects on students even
when they leave school. Students must not experience any type of stereotyping, ethnic prejudice or
racial violence in schools. Asante (2003) said: Racism in education can not be overcome by the
expression of goodwill, it must be constantly confronted in all conscious ways (p.223).
For some poor African American students, education is usually the last existing method by which
they can improve their family life level and escape from a long history of poverty. Therefore,
whether the education system will provide a fair environment for them, or more specifically,
whether their teacher will have prejudice among them and

The Sunflower Research Paper
During the Holocaust, many townspeople didn t bother coming outside and sat as bystanders
peering out the window as their Jewish friends get lined up outside. Jews were herded up then
murdered like sheep unknowing of what s gonna happen until it happens. Although everyone acted
as sheep, it was that they were fed lies about Jews, they didn t see any harm until it was too late,
and they didn t want to be killed.
Throughout Hitler s campaign, he would gather people of the sorts and spread calumny that Jews
were both subhuman and a threat toward the Nazi empire. In the Sunflower, the German soldier
went on and stated ...smoking out subhumans.. (Sunflower) remembering what the radio was
saying from a victory that the Fehrer (supreme leader; in this case, Hitler) had in his mission. This
shows what most of the German soldiers were feeling toward the Jews due to what was told to
them from military cartoons and reports across Germany; they were subhumans. The German
soldier had no real thought or experience with a Jew but what came out of a loudspeaker or what
was given to them to read. (Sunflower) Simon Wiesenthal, the one to have written The Sunflower

Hockey Players Are Pretty Good People
So this brings up my first point and ethical dilemma; is it right for the NHL to put their players
in this town? One can argue that is not the responsibility of the NHL to control the actions of
their players, however, is it a good idea to even present the opportunity for a millionaire athlete
to be tempted by this excessive town, that is Las Vegas? Generally, hockey players are pretty
good people, including professionals playing in the NHL, or instance; P.K. Subban, current
Nashville Predator, and former defenseman for the Montreal Canadiens made an outstanding
donation of $10 million dollars to the Montreal Children s Hospital. Nick Foligno, Captain of
the Columbus Blue Jackets also donated $1 million dollars to the Boston Children s Hospital
after they treated his daughter for a congenital heart disease, supporting the positive reputation
of the players, being mostly, kind hearted and generous guys off the ice. On the contrary, hockey
players are known to have a bit of a reputation for being partiers, Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick
Kane has often been spotted having a few more beverages than he should in downtown Chicago,
he also got in trouble with the law back in the summer of 2009 for an altercation with a cab
driver over $0.20 cents. Not to say that every NHL player that visits, or plays in Las Vegas will
be a drug addict and get arrested. Nonetheless, by the NHL placing the Golden Knights franchise in
Las Vegas, it presents a lot of temptation for these young

5 stunning World Heritage Sites you should visit
It s quite a difficult task to pick the best heritage sites from a wide selection of 25. But we wanted
to make sure the attractions include a site from each of the countries in the UK: from Scotland,
Wales, England and Northern Island. We also added a bonus attraction from the capital city of the
UK, London.
Fountains Abbey, North Yorkshire, England
Fountains Abbey is among the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in
England. The abbey was founded in 1131, after 13 monks were expelled from the St Mary s
Abbey in York. The Archbishop of York, Thurstan, provided these monks refuge and a small piece
of land, where they set the monastery.
The monastery grew in size over the years, with the precinct covering around 70 acres of land.
The abbey operated for over 400 years, closing in 1539 when Henry VIII ordered the Dissolution of
the Monasteries.
Fountains Abbey was among the first UK entries on the UNESCO World Heritage sitelist. It was
added on 1986, as a cultural site.
Why visit Fountains Abbey:
Fountains Abbey is a stunning attraction to visit and to learn about life in monasteries something
which was one central to the way of life on the island. The vast location offers plenty of things to
see; you can visit indoor museums and spend time outdoors taking in the stunning views across the
ruins.

Communication Is A Complex Aspect Of Human Life
Communication is a complex aspect of human life that upon closer investigation gives one a deeper
understanding of what messages individuals are truly attempting to convey. There are four different
channels through which signals and cues send messages from sender to receiver and vice versa.
Those channels are the following; auditory, visual, tactile, and scent channels. Three of the four
channels are non linguistic channels that demonstrate that a large portion of communicationoccurs
through non linguistic means. Individuals are consistently using these four channels in everyday
interactions with one another. Humans minds and bodies have been shaped by natural selection to
send a variety of verbal and non verbal signals. A signalis intentional and has been evolved to
produce a certain reaction. Signals are honest because they are linked to one s genes. Due to the
wide reach signals have in one s everyday life a broad analysis of signals would be ineffective for
this analysis. Therefore, this analysis will focus on the role signals play in courtship. One will
explore a total of five different sources of empirical evidence in order to gain a deeper
understanding of why individuals may have evolved to produce and react to courtship signals. One
will attempt to demonstrate that individuals have evolved to produce and react to courtship signals
in order to be able to determine a potential mates interest. Though courtship signals may not
guarantee that one will achieve a

I Am Legend vs The Land of the Dead: The Evolution of the Zombie Subgenre When examining
the horror film subgenre of zombies, it is imperative to look at the evolution of the creatures, and
determine why the newer films are typically superior to their older counterparts. Directors tend to
adapt zombie films in order to fit the fears and the experience of a modern audience, which is why
the films continue to improve. This is obvious even in the short time span of about three years. The

This film focuses on the post apocalyptic city of New York City, where the last man in the city,
Robert Neville, is fighting to survive, while seeking a cure to the disease that caused the
zombies to arise. The only companionship that Neville is able to find is in his dog, Sam.
Despite his isolation, Neville remains determined, believing that he can still fix this and that he
will light up the darkness (I Am Legend). The most fascinating theme in this film is also the most
subtle. I am Legend contains a religious undertone, which many of the viewers will not notice
the first time that they watch the film. Neville is portrayed as the resurrection of Christ, as he
sacrifices his life to the discovery of the vaccine, and the welfare of humanity. Butterflies, which
symbolize the resurrection of Christ, are also seen several times in this film, which only adds to
the religious theme. Neville s daughter is shown making a butterfly for her father before she and
her mother attempt to flee the city. Also, there is a butterfly tattoo on the woman that Neville
sacrifices his life for, by hiding her in a shaft while he confronts the zombies. Overall, I am

It was an event that changed the course of socialism on a global scale. It was the unfortunate
result of Fidel Castro abusing his power. It was the single most important event in Cuba s history
thus far. The Cuban Revolution, which began in 1953 and ended in 1961, was led by revolutionist
Fidel Castro and the 26th of July Movement to overthrow current dictator Fulgencio Batista. After
gaining control of Cuba and setting up a communist party, Castro began a set of land reforms and

Israel s Demographic Transition Model
According to table 1.1, Israel s population is increasing at a moderate rate. The nation has a Rate
of National Increase of 13.33. With a life expectancy of 82.27, Israel s population is aging, yet not
to an extreme extent due to a crude birth rate of 18.48. Israel s population pyramid does exhibit

I expect Israel s population to increase in the future. Statistics in table 1.1 suggest a rise in

Musical Theatre
An accomplished American lyricist and composer, Stephen Sondheim, once said: All the best
performers bring to their role something more, something different than what the author put on
paper. That s what makes theatre live. That s why it persists . Through my experiences in musical
theatre, both in elementary school and high school, I have come to realize that the script is the
backbone, or the base with which the actorbegins to create. All of the words written down on
paper are one dimensional; they are flat. It is only when an actor gives those words a voice that
the character begins to come alive. An actor adds all of the other essential layers to the backbone,
and suddenly, there are movements, expressions and emotions to fit with the... Show more content

That is the beauty about theatre. Each performer has a different interpretation of a character,
because they draw upon their own personal experiences in the attempt to connect with their
character on a deeper level. This is why musicals live on, and are repeatedly performed on
Broadway. Although the characters and the plot are ever present, the actors will change from
year to year, or sometimes even from show to show. Therefore, not one show will be the exact
same. Every performer brings something different to their role, connecting with their character
in a way that no one else ever will; that is unique only to them. This rings true for my
performance in the musical Fame. Having a double cast, each character was shared between
two people, thus allowing for differentiation in the way in which the characters were interpreted
and played. For example, I played Iris s character in a way that was unique to how Katie Smith
played the character. Even though we spoke the exact same lines, we interpreted these lines
differently, making them our own and molding a character from our own thoughts, ideas, and
personal experiences. Making these text to self connections (relating one s own experiences to a
text, or in this case, a script) is essential when acting. To truly relate to the character in which one
is acting, one must draw upon their own ideas and connect them to their character s feelings,
emotions, behavior, etc. Forming these connections allows for one to step inside the character s
shoes, and to truly become that specific character. In my personal experience of acting as Iris in
the musical Fame, I felt as though Iris and I shared great similarities, and this is what helped me to
relate with her character on an emotional level. Although I am not a talented ballet dancer who
never does anything but dance, I could relate to Iris s hardworking and perfectionist

The Big Red Monster vs. The Theatres The arrival of Netflix and other streaming services have

Harold Godwinson Essay
True King of England
Harold Godwinson
Thomas Faulkner
Harold Godwinson, King of England reigned from 6 January 1066 until 14 October when he died
in the Battle of Hastings in the same year. He was fighting against the Normans who were invading
England and led by William the Conqueror. Harold Godwinson, King of England died from an
arrow that struck him in the eye. Harold Godwinson succeeded and was chosen by Edward the
Confessor. William the Duke of Normandy and Harald Hardrada, King of Norway thought that
they should have succeeded Edward the Confessor instead of Harold Godwinson. Harold
Godwinson was the last Anglo Saxon King of England and therefore I believe the last true
Englishman to claim the throne.
There are three main reasons why I believe that Harold Godwinson was the final true king of
England. Firstly, Harold was powerful and ambitious. Secondly, he was an excellent soldier who
had the skills to lead England into battle against the Norman invaders. Finally and most
importantly he was the last Anglo Saxon to rule England and therefore the last true king of
England. He was chosen by the Witan who were a council of 60 of the most powerful noblemen.

through violence and aggression, along with the counter arguments against this. Instead, I concur
that conflict is a social construction. I then discuss how the solution to conflict is through the path

value of forgiving and reconciling with an offender in the face of conflict. Using John Paul

forgiveness and reconciliation. To conclude, I provide an example of an interpersonal conflict and
how I found a solution to it through forgiveness and reconciliation. Overall, although conflict
continues to exist, the only way to find peace is through forgiveness, An underlying question about
human nature, in regard to conflict, is if are humans naturally aggressive creatures, thus not
allowing for peace. In The Seville Statement of Violence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

If a problem is not resolved, then resentment is held against the offender. The consequences are
lugging around the emotional baggage that comes with the problem. When confronted with the
problem, either physically or within a conversation, the emotions attached to it also arise. Feelings
of anger, anguish and bitterness resurface, almost as a reminder as to why the offender was not
forgiven. The outcome of holding a grudge against others results in constant emotional turmoil,
which does not allow for complete inner peace nor happiness. The value of forgiveness and

The Theme Of Social Inequality In Battle Royal By Ralph...
Social inequality is something people would not expect to be influenced by setting. The story
Battle Royal, by Ralph Ellison explains that a young boy grows up to learn the harsh reality of
being an invisible man. The author does this by putting the main character in the story, though
situations that make him realize that he is diminished from society. The meaning of the story is
supported by the setting of where different things take place throughout the story. Places such as
the main ballroom played an important role. The ring of where the battle royal took place

entertain the white upper classmen. It all began when he was invited into the hotel ballroom
that he would begin being told what to do or what to say or act. The way the room was set up,
put a boxing ring in front of a row of chairs from all three sides. The battle royal expresses the

leaders to express their aggression toward the black boys in a way that they believed was safe
(Wallace 2013). Immediately after the main character arrives to the boxing ring is when he faces a
new challenge that he must overcome. This fight between classmates has him worried that he
might not even get a chance to give his speech. The author implies that the setting of the boxing
ring can intimidate anybody if there were in the same position. The author states that I want to get
at that ginger colored nigger. Tear him limb from limb...I stood against the ropes trembling (Ellison
208). This hostile environment allowed the readers to see what position the main character finds
himself in the middle of. This boxing ring allows readers to get a better picture of what the story is
about. The use of an environment where he is forced to do something while blindfolded and beaten

Volunteer Activities Paper
I have structured this paper with a timeline of volunteer activities, how they relate to my career,
what my goals are, and how I plan to remain involved in my community.
During my junior and senior years in high school, I volunteered every Friday night to walk the
streets of Pottstown PA and help the police clean up the crime. If you are not familiar with the
Guardian Angels, we act as the eyes and ears of the police. We carry no weapons and only use
force if someone s life is threatened. Our normal route patrolled the community around Pottstown
Athletic club and mostly entailed calling the police about any drug deals we see, standing outside
known drug dealers apartments so they don t get business, and patrolling the streets so prostitutes ...

I would like to get involved with the firefighters, or police and do consultations and possibly
design exercise programs for them. The police and firefighters as a whole are not provided with
quality exercise programs which are enjoyable to do and create benefits that are directed at their
respective jobs. I feel because I ve been exposed to police culture because of my brother who is
an officer and on the SWAT team, and I have a few friends that are firefighters. I m in a unique
position to be both be able to understand what current exercise theory says, what the police and
firefighters need, and have the ability to provide our police and firefighters with exercise programs
they will actually follow and

  • 2. Articles Of Confederation Vs US Constitution The idea of state government came from the Articles of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation were the first type of government the US had, and they were based on the state s powers. Soon, the Framers of the US saw that the Articles of Confederation were not working, and each state was like it s own country. The Framers met at the Constitutional Convention, and there were two sides as to how the US Constitution should be written. The Federalists wanted a strong Central government, but the Anti Federalists wanted a government that gave the power to the states. There was a compromise made, and a central government was created, but also the states were given their own government. There are many similarities between the two governments, but... • 5. Summary Of Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell To Arms World War I was a time of constant worry and woe for the destruction caused to the European countryside. Ernest Hemingway depicts the life of an American ambulance driver working for the Italian army through the Great War in the semi autobiographical A Farewell to Arms, incorporating elements of his own experience in the war into that of his narrator Fredric Henry. One of the most effective tools to display the destruction and chaos of this war was Hemingway s writing style, clearly seen in the opening of Chapter Twenty One. This passage, while introducing a devastating point of the war to the reader, demonstrates Hemingway s dark but witty style through the discursive and wistful tone, varying figures of speech, and repetitive and brutal diction in order to effectively convey the current state of the narrator and the war. Hemingway s tone, shown through the narrator s lack of focus on one particular subject as well as the almost wistful remarks of past events, reflects not only the unorganized chaos occurring in the Italian countryside but also the author s dark style. The dismal mood illustrates the chaos in a passive and distant way, creating a sober tone that contributes to the dark style. Fredric Henry laments because that [t]he fighting at the front went very badly , there was no more racing as well as riots twice in the town against the war (Hemingway 116). As the narrator looks back on these events, there is also an element of nostalgia and longing towards the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Finally, we need to look at Dental Examiners itself and its background. Antitrust Liability A preliminary question is what is antirust liability? While there are other statutes, the Sherman Antitrust Actis the signature law prohibiting antitrust activity. The act defines antitrust activity as any restraint of trade or commerce. It also prevents persons from monopolizing or attempting to monopolizing trade. The act is only concerned with restrains of trade that are unreasonably restrictive of competitive conditions. A secondary requirement is that there be concerted action, which requires more than unilateral behavior by individual actors. With the secession of the Southern states from the Union and the removal of the slavery issue, finally in 1862, the Homestead Act was passed and signed by President Abraham Lincoln. The new law established a three fold homestead acquisition process: filing an application, improving the land, and filing for deed of title. Any U.S. citizen, or intended citizen, who had never borne arms against the U.S. Government could file an application and lay claim to 160 acres of surveyed Government land. For the next 5 years, the homesteader had to live on the land and improve it by building a 12 by 14 dwelling and growing crops. After 5 years, the homesteader could file for his patent (or deed of title) by submitting proof of residency and the required improvements to a local land office. Local land offices forwarded the paperwork to the General Land Office in Washington, DC, along with a final certificate of eligibility. The case file was examined, and valid claims were granted patent to the land free and clear, except for a small registration fee. Title could also be acquired after a 6 month residency and trivial improvements, provided the claimant paid the government $1.25 per acre. Public perception of homosexuality at the time was that it was scientifically reviled. Why would a creator of all good be able to stand by and watch individuals suffer, and of all knowing and powerful why not put an end to all suffering at once. Logically a creator of all good and all powerful would be able to put a stop to suffering and evil immediately. Blackburn also mentions that religious individuals state that because of free will the world is what it is today. The notion that Godcreated a perfect world with humans having free will and because of the misuse of that free will evil is present. Blackburn is against this idea total, he mentioned we couldn t have free will without the influence of the past we can be free to do whatever we want and potentially to be blame for it, but the will is the influence of the past so we basically doing what the past tell us which is determinism. Blackburn also states that it s not only human decisions that inflict evil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. A Long History Of Unequal Treatment Among Ethnic Minority... Introduction In the United States, there is a long history of unequal treatment among ethnic minority groups, particularly for African Americans. Unfortunately, this injustice also appears in education. Sociologists have affirmed the importance of education in shaping the economic and social prospects of individuals. As all communities in the United States have been diversified, it becomes crucial to recognize and properly deal with diversity within the classroom. All studnets should be guaranteed to have equal opportunities for quality education at school. However, racism is still prevalent in many schools today (Beswick, 4, 1990, Pennino, 2007). Racism now has different forms, like the individual instructions student can get from their teachers, and the acceptance of students among their classmates. These can have negative and lasting effects on students even when they leave school. Students must not experience any type of stereotyping, ethnic prejudice or racial violence in schools. Asante (2003) said: Racism in education can not be overcome by the expression of goodwill, it must be constantly confronted in all conscious ways (p.223). For some poor African American students, education is usually the last existing method by which they can improve their family life level and escape from a long history of poverty. Therefore, whether the education system will provide a fair environment for them, or more specifically, whether their teacher will have prejudice among them and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One can argue that is not the responsibility of the NHL to control the actions of their players, however, is it a good idea to even present the opportunity for a millionaire athlete to be tempted by this excessive town, that is Las Vegas? Generally, hockey players are pretty good people, including professionals playing in the NHL, or instance; P.K. Nick Foligno, Captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets also donated $1 million dollars to the Boston Children s Hospital after they treated his daughter for a congenital heart disease, supporting the positive reputation of the players, being mostly, kind hearted and generous guys off the ice. On the contrary, hockey players are known to have a bit of a reputation for being partiers, Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane has often been spotted having a few more beverages than he should in downtown Chicago, he also got in trouble with the law back in the summer of 2009 for an altercation with a cab driver over $0.20 cents. • 29. Communication Is A Complex Aspect Of Human Life Communication is a complex aspect of human life that upon closer investigation gives one a deeper understanding of what messages individuals are truly attempting to convey. There are four different channels through which signals and cues send messages from sender to receiver and vice versa. Those channels are the following; auditory, visual, tactile, and scent channels. Three of the four channels are non linguistic channels that demonstrate that a large portion of communicationoccurs through non linguistic means. Individuals are consistently using these four channels in everyday interactions with one another. Humans minds and bodies have been shaped by natural selection to send a variety of verbal and non verbal signals. A signalis intentional and has been evolved to produce a certain reaction. Signals are honest because they are linked to one s genes. Due to the wide reach signals have in one s everyday life a broad analysis of signals would be ineffective for this analysis. Therefore, this analysis will focus on the role signals play in courtship. One will explore a total of five different sources of empirical evidence in order to gain a deeper understanding of why individuals may have evolved to produce and react to courtship signals. One will attempt to demonstrate that individuals have evolved to produce and react to courtship signals in order to be able to determine a potential mates interest. Despite his isolation, Neville remains determined, believing that he can still fix this and that he will light up the darkness (I Am Legend). The most fascinating theme in this film is also the most subtle. I am Legend contains a religious undertone, which many of the viewers will not notice the first time that they watch the film. Neville is portrayed as the resurrection of Christ, as he sacrifices his life to the discovery of the vaccine, and the welfare of humanity. Butterflies, which symbolize the resurrection of Christ, are also seen several times in this film, which only adds to the religious theme. Musical Theatre An accomplished American lyricist and composer, Stephen Sondheim, once said: All the best performers bring to their role something more, something different than what the author put on paper. That s what makes theatre live. That s why it persists . Through my experiences in musical theatre, both in elementary school and high school, I have come to realize that the script is the backbone, or the base with which the actorbegins to create. All of the words written down on paper are one dimensional; they are flat. It is only when an actor gives those words a voice that the character begins to come alive. That is the beauty about theatre. Each performer has a different interpretation of a character, because they draw upon their own personal experiences in the attempt to connect with their character on a deeper level. This is why musicals live on, and are repeatedly performed on Broadway. Although the characters and the plot are ever present, the actors will change from year to year, or sometimes even from show to show. Therefore, not one show will be the exact same. Every performer brings something different to their role, connecting with their character in a way that no one else ever will; that is unique only to them. This rings true for my performance in the musical Fame. Having a double cast, each character was shared between two people, thus allowing for differentiation in the way in which the characters were interpreted and played. For example, I played Iris s character in a way that was unique to how Katie Smith played the character. Even though we spoke the exact same lines, we interpreted these lines differently, making them our own and molding a character from our own thoughts, ideas, and personal experiences. Making these text to self connections (relating one s own experiences to a text, or in this case, a script) is essential when acting. To truly relate to the character in which one is acting, one must draw upon their own ideas and connect them to their character s feelings, emotions, behavior, etc. Forming these connections allows for one to step inside the character s shoes, and to truly become that specific character. In my personal experience of acting as Iris in the musical Fame, I felt as though Iris and I shared great similarities, and this is what helped me to relate with her character on an emotional level. Although I am not a talented ballet dancer who never does anything but dance, I could relate to Iris s hardworking and perfectionist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
