Costco Wholesale Corporation Vs. The Company Essay
INTRODUCTION The business outlook for Costco Wholesale Corporation (Costco or the company )
is bright. Costco as we know and love today started out as Price Club, which was founded by
legendary business man Sol Price. In 1975, Price was forced out of a chain of discount department
store company he founded called FedMart. Shortly after, he drew up the concept of a warehouse store
retail model on a napkin. Costco and its subsidiaries began operating in 1983 in Seattle Washington. It
engages in the operation of membership warehouse in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, United
Kingdom, Mexico, Japan, Australia and Spain. It also has majority owned subsidiaries in Taiwan and
South Korea. The company operates as an international chain of membership warehouses. The product
line of Costco to their customers includes food (dry and packaged), sundries (tobacco, beverages,
cleaning supplies), hardlines (major appliances, electronics, beauty aids), fresh food, softlines
(apparel, home furnishings), and ancillary and other (gas stations, pharmacy, food court). By using a
membership format, and strictly controlling the entrances and exits of its warehouses, Costco has
lower inventory losses than those of other discount retail operators. The company recorded revenues
of $116,199 million in the financial year ended August 2015 (Fiscal Year 2015), an increase of 3.2%
over Fiscal Year 2014. The operating profit of the company was $3,624 million in Fiscal Year 2015, an

Cycladic Figurine
People continually have made sculptures of others throughout history. Many sculptures are dedicated
to an important person for their accomplishments and respectable deeds, and many are representations
of various topics, such as the ideal man/woman. These sculptures are in an assortment of sizes that
range from being taller than a full grown adult to being as minuscule as the length of a tiny dog.
Numerous sculptors, through the past and up to now, have a fascination in making sculptures of
women. Two, in particular, the Cycladic Figurine and Head of a Woman. The Cycladic Figurine is a
simple sculpture of a woman. It has thin arms folded gently across the woman and a blank face,
connected by a thin and long neck, with only her nose to provide

Name of the case: Croft Scully Co. v. M/V Skulptor Vuchetich et al.

Radiation has always been in everyday life even before...
Radiation has always been in everyday life even before Roentgen discovered x ray. The mountains
give off natural radiation, other forms of radiation are coal burning power plants, x rays from a TV,
and an airplane ride. The average dose from background radiation is about 360 mrem every year.
There are two types of radiation, nonionizing and ionizing radiation. Examples of nonionizing
radiation are microwaves and radio waves broadcasting. Ionizing radiation refers to gamma and x
rays. Ionizing radiation means that the rays are able to remove an electron from the atom then ions can
be formed. The ions can cause damage when reacting with other atoms. Cells are able to be repaired if
low dose are received. However, if cells get a high dose, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If a pediatric patient receives a lot of radiation then their cells could be mutated and reproduce causing
more mutated cells. Pediatric patients in the 1940 s with respiratory problems would be diagnosed
with their thymus gland being enlarged. The thymus reacts to infection by enlarging. Infants would
soon have an enlarged thymus following birth and physicians would give the infants doses of x
radiation to reduce the size. Because the thyroid is by the thymus, it would also receive a dose. After
20 years, most of those people exposed would develop thyroid carcinomas. (Statkiewicz Sherer, 1983)
X ray was first discovered on November 8, 1895 by accident. Wilhelm Roentgen was conducting
some laboratory experiments with cathode rays. A piece of cardboard, covered with fluorescent
minerals, began to glow when the cathode was on. Roentgen immediately began to further his research
with this accidental discovery. The first x ray was of Anna s hand (Wilhelm s wife). Anna later died of
sarcoma, which would later be discovered was from the radiation she had received. Many years later
Wilhelm died in 1923 of carcinoma of the intestine. (Famous Scientist, 2013)
The first Radiology Martyr is Clarence Dally. Thomas Edison discovered a device called fluoroscope.
Clarence was Thomas assistant with many experiments. Edison stopped his experiments when he
noticed that Clarence began to develop burns on his skin. These burns soon turned into malignant

TUTORIAL 1
1) Identify aspects of competition within the meaning of competition law.
The Harper Review defined competition as the process by which rival businesses strive to maximise
their profits by developing and offering desirable goods and services to consumers on the most
favourable terms . The purpose of competition policy is therefore to protect, enhance and extend
competitive conduct. Competition Law aims to combat certain anti competitive practices that interfere
with the efficiency of markets to the detriment of both consumers and other suppliers.
Competition law is not intended to protect competitors per se (Harper Review); rather, as per Joseph
Schumpeter, competition facilitates creative destruction as old and inefficient economic ... Show more

The Parmalat Australia website suggests that its brand Pauls is the most consumed branded milk in
Australia. Parmalat is a significant producer of UHT milk; however, the majority of this is exported to
the Asia Pacific. UHT milk accounts for less than 10% of total milk sales in Australia. Fonterra and
the Murray Goulburn group have a similar market share to Parmalat, thereby constraining its market
power. Lion Pty Ltd is the industry leader with a 32% market share, however this covers several
brands and also includes private label contracts with Woolworths. The fact that the major suppliers
operate nation wide and would be present in each market (as discussed above), significantly limits
Parmalat s ability to exploit its market power. It is difficult to envisage Parmalat partaking in exclusive
dealings or predatory pricing to the detriment of its competitors, given that they have similar resources
and would be capable of rebuffing these tactics. Nevertheless, if Parmalat colludes with another
supplier, then the combined market share of the firms would be substantial, thus creating scope for
cartel behaviour that is disadvantageous to farmers (primary

Figurative Language In Devil In The White City
In the novel The Devil in the White City written by Erik Larson, he entails there is a constant war
between good and evil in Chicago 1893, each battle won is a life being made, or slaughtered There are
two wolves battling us all right now.... One s good, the other is evil. If you re wondering which wolf
inside will succeed, simple, it s the one that you feed... by Ronnie Radke. Larson paints the white city
s atmosphere as preppy, educated, society that consists of architects like Daniel Burnham, while the
black city portrays a bleak, poverty, society that consists of the serial killer H. H. Holmes. The reader
experiences a journey between heaven and hell throughout the entirety of the novel, a dream like
euphoria in the white city, and the nightmare like misery for the black. The difference between the two
contradicting cities is so great that Larson switches the perspective of the serial killer, H. H. Holmes,
and the genius architect, Daniel Burnham, throughout the book; painting this image to portray these
differences in the white and black cities by using juxtaposition, figurative language, and imagery. H.
H. Holmes travels into the white city, leaving the bleak city frozen in place, Larson uses figurative
language to reveal how Holmes starts to convert the white city into a kingdom of his own by seeing
beauty and grace in some of the most disturbing scenarios. The comparison of Julia s (Holmes
mistress) murder to a ballet explains that Holmes sees death as a type of

Funk Carioca
Funk Carioca and the Utopian Element of Baile Funk Funk Carioca (or favela funk) refers to a type of
dance genre bred in Rio de Janeiro s favelas and expressed authentically in bailes funk, or funk dance
parties. Rooted in Miami bass, funk is a fusion of electronic dance music, heavy Afro Brazilian
drumbeats, raw vocal delivery, and frenzied sampling of American songs ( Bandidos de Cristo 221).
Proibidao is a popular derivative of bailes funk that is centered on favela gangs, drug dealing and the
bleakness associated with the poverty stricken slums of Rio ( Bandidos de Cristo 222). Tati Quebra
Barraco is arguably the most prominent female figure in funk Carioca and the epitome of the favela
lifestyle. Tati s lyrics, though sexually explicit, are politically charged and provide a vivid narrative

music scene through his participation in festivals and music events, and collaboration with popular
artists. Funk is widely criticized for its vulgar lyrics, hyper sexualized dance moves and affiliations
with Rio s criminal landscape, and as such, the art form continually fights to lift legislative bans on
expression ( Favela Utopias 59 62). For instance, Brazilian Penal Code: Article 286 has meant, for

Symptoms And Treatment Of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy
Cardiopulmonary diseases can include an enormous variety of diseases. It covers all the diseases of
the heart and the lungs. Respirations and blood pressure go hand in hand which is why this category is
included together. The following paper is on Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, specifically focusing on
the pediatric population, and even more narrowing on athletes. This is a growing area of concern in
the medical field due to the undetected Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy in athletes until a Sudden
Cardiac Death (SCD). Shockingly many athletes are instantly dying on the soccer field and basketball
courts not even aware there is a cardiac issue until it is too late. The following paragraphs will explore
what is Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, who is affected, how it can be detected and what can be done
to lower the SCD incidents in young athletes.
Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy is a genetic disorder that causes progressive abnormal thickening of the
heart (1). This thickening of the muscle of the heart may be minor, slowly progressing or severe
producing sudden death. People with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy have a large thick heart muscle,
and as a result decreases the cavity size of the heart. This means the heart holds and pumps less blood.
It also can make it harder for the heart to relax and fill with blood. (2) It is an obstruction to the flow
of blood as it is pumped out of the heart. Once the muscle is too large, it s function decreases and the
heart starts to quiver in

Should We Celebrate Australia Day
Its January 26; what are you doing? Having a barbecue? Pool party? Down at the beach? While
everyone else in Australia is celebrating this day, that is called Australia Day, the original custodians
of our land are taking offence to the day we celebrate Australia Day on. Australia Day should be about
celebrating our wonderful country and having fun. Instead it is causing the indigenous people to
protest. We celebrate Australia Day on the 26 because it is the day a British flag was placed on
Australia. But why is that such an important day to celebrate? Many debates have been done about
whether the day should be changed or not but most of Australia doesn t want to change the day
because they don t see the point and aren t thinking about the indigenous people of our home land.
Celebrating Australia day on the 26 of January is offensive to the indigenous people of Australia.

The History of Classical Gravitational Theory and General Relativity
In the beginning scientists and religious men of their era tried to explain the universe both biblically
and scientifically. One of the foremost Greek scientists was Aristotle; taught by Plato, that the circle
and sphere are the two most perfect shapes in a 2 and 3 dimensional universe, Aristotelian system
placed Earth at the center of the universe; and all other heavenly bodies revolved around the earth in
crystalline orbitals. Another Greek Mathematician, Aristarchus theorized that the sun was the center of
the universe and that the Earth revolved around it. His simple reasoning was constituted purely by the
fact that the Earth is a much smaller body than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The English physicist and chemist Henry Cavendish determined the value of the universal constant of
gravitation, made noteworthy electrical studies, and is credited with the discovery of hydrogen and the
composition of water. (http://www.notablebiographies.com/Ca Ch/Cavendish Henry.html) The
Cavendish Experiment was the first exerpiment to calculate the earths gravitational constant. His
experiment resulted in the following conclusion
Or that the gravitational Constant of Earth = Acceleration of gravity at the surface of the Earth times
the Earth s Radius squared over its mass = 3 times Acceleration of gravity at the surface of the Earth
over 4 pi times the radius of the Earth times its density. One hundred years ago Albert Einstein
published a theory so monumental and eventually leading to the creation of the Nuclear Bomb,
satellite technology, space travel, and a better understanding of the universe. Einstein soon became the
most famous physicist in history, by publishing his most profound theory, the Theory of General
Relativity. General relativity states that energy is equal to mass times the speed of light squared or ...

The Red Sea or The Sea of Reeds Imagine yourself being a Hebrew during the time of Moses and
crossing the Red Sea while more than six hundred Egyptian soldiers run after you. You would have no
time to think but by previous knowledge you are aware of the depth of the ocean, in this case the
soldiers would have caught up to you by now since they were at an advantage because of the speed
they had with their horses and chariots once they were at downfall. Regardless of the advantage that
the Egyptians had, by some miracle you make it across and the rest of the army is drowned with vigor.

God did indeed grant a miracle for the people of Moses, and the soldiers of King Ramses did not
unfortunately live to tell their tale. Ultimately, there will always be an endless debate whether the
actual sea was indeed a sea or if it was just a lake filled with shallow marshes and reeds, the only

The Event I Went At The University Of Minnesota
The event I went to go see was a Guest Master Class instructed by Barthold Kujiken. This event was
held on Sunday afternoon in Ferguson Hall at the University of Minnesota. It was held in a small
auditorium similar to a class setting. Barthold was accompanied by a student flutist and pianist. A lot
of time was spent with the flutist and pianist playing a part of a piece, and him teaching and
demonstrating on how to improve a piece and explaining the fundamentals of the music. It was a very
informative event/class.
Barthold Kujiken was born March 8, 1949. He s a Belgian flutist and recorder player. He attended
Bruges Conservatory and the Royal Conservatories of Brussels and The Hague, where he studied the
modern flute. He is best known for playing baroque music on authentic instruments such as the flute.
He played in baroque orchestras for many years, and then went off to playing chamber music concerts
all over the world, where he extended to playing 19th century music. The majority of the event he
talked about Sonata s. As we discussed in class, a sonata is a solo instrument accompanied by a
keyboard. In this case the solo instrument was the flute and it was accompanied by a piano. The flutist
played a major sonata. As she played apiece he would stop her and tell her a few things to change to
improve the piece, and she would play that piece once again with the revisions. One of the other
things he told her was to play the sonata without any ornaments just the skeleton.

The Revolution Of The Reign Of Terror
Revolutions are often started as a response to an unjust form of government, and the Reign of Terror s
new revolutionary government was no exception. Although the revolutionary government was meant
to replace a tyrannical government, it quickly turned into the dictatorial government it tried to replace
and in many cases stepped far outside of the bounds of lawful or just action. During late 18th century
France in the time period between the execution of King Louis XVI and the execution of Maximilien
de Robespierre, the Reign of Terror senselessly guillotined thousands of people. Conditions in France
in 1793 and 1794 were not serious enough to justify the revolutionary government s response due to
the response to external threats, response to internal threats, and the extreme methods deployed.
The government s response to the external threats to France was indisputably unjustified throughout
the Reign of Terror. In 1972, France engaged in war with a Prussian and Austrian coalition (Doc B).
Austria and Prussia were primarily motivated because the monarchy didn t want the French
Revolution to spread to their country and result in the loss of their own power. However, this is
exactly what happened when France took the Austrian Netherlands by 1795 (Doc B), an unwarranted
act of aggression that France, the defending country in the war, should not have taken. French émigrés
were also threat to French society because of their treasonous alliance with Austria and Prussia, which

Internal Controls And The Audit Process
During the audit of the financial statements we will be assessing the internal controls in use as
mandated by the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002. The act was designed to enhance corporate
responsibility as it relates to financial reporting issues. Section 404 covers the internal controls that
have been setup by the company. Internal controls are designed to protect the assets of a business from
misuse or loss. Internal controls also help the business to streamline processes so that goals can be
achieved at the best rate of return from the use of available assets. The remainder of this letter contains
an overview of section 404 and other regulations relating to the audit of internal controls and a
synopsis of internal control risks that have been identified within Apollo Shoes Inc. We will also
describe the relationship between internal controls and the audit process as well as outlining our
responsibilities in detecting and reporting fraud.
Section 404 of the act requires all publicly traded companies establish internal controls and procedures
for financial reporting. The system of controls must be documented, tested, and maintained to ensure

Nursing Home Dementia Case Study
One of the hardest moments for not only the person with dementia, their caretaker, and their family, is
deciding the appropriate time to relocate to an assisted living facility or a skilled nursing home. Like
the variety of the disease symptoms and durations, the question of when to accept outside help also
has different answers depending on the situation and the caregiver s abilities and resources (Smith, J.,

John Singer Sargent, an American artist, is regarded as the greatest portrait painter of the early 1900 s.
Sargent, like many prominent artists, was exposed to art at a young age. He was encouraged by both
parents, who were artist themselves, to draw. This led to his acceptance into École des Beaux Art
School at the age of eighteen. There he was able to study under great artists of that time and his new
found love for portraits birthed his career. Sargent paintings often broke the traditional sense of
portraiture. They clearly have the influence of photography. Scenes seemed to be cropped, such as the
painting Street in Venice. The painting looks as if it is a freeze frame of life. The clear motion of the

Of Woman Born The End of Motherhood
In Of Woman Born, Adrienne Rich effectively weaves her own story into a convincing account of
what it means to become a mother within the bonds of patriarchal culture. Her conclusion that the
institution of motherhood, which she distinguishes from motherhood, must be destroyed in order to
release the creation and sustenance of life into the same realm of decision, struggle, surprise,
imagination, and conscious intelligence, as any other difficult, but freely chosen work is substantiated
by her courageous confession that contradicts culturally normative notions of motherhood.

because [she] felt [her] own needs acutely and often expressed them violently (32) by raging at her
children out of frustration, provides a credible offering to break down an institution that makes women
like her angry. It also demonstrates some of the ways in which motherhood has not been women s
choice.
A reader might be stunned to consider that was written just twenty years ago and that Rich s first
pregnancy happened only forty three years ago, since her choices as an educated woman were so
limited compared to now. When her account of feeling like she was only acting as a woman (having
no idea what she wanted, and having a child because it was expected of a real woman ) is introduced,
her lack of choices reads like either a dismal Margaret Atwood science fiction novel or a scene from
the very long ago past. Similary, when Rich cites her example of a primitive attitude by quoting a
doctor s medical opinion that women are psychologically unbalanced when they attempt to resist the
demands of the institution [of motherhood], (263) it is quite surprising to realize that this opinion was
written in 1967, a mere thirty years ago. In this way, Rich s story is a tribute to all women who have
fought her battle, the battle to have the freedom to choose motherhood.
Rich must feel a deep sense of satisfaction in realizing that articulating her struggles has helped many
women. Her capacity to transcend her own circumstances is truly remarkable

Treatment Goals There is no cure for PPD, so treatment will probably be constant through the
individual s life as long as they are willing to participate in the treatment. For those who accept the
treatment and put in the effort, they can live a pretty normal life. Those who refuse to be treated will
find it difficult to function socially, including maintaining a job and relationships.

Essay on Turkey s Internal Conflict and the Kurdish Minority
Turkey s Internal Conflict and the Kurdish Minority Turkey s key internal conflict centers on the role
of its large Kurdish minority, ethnically and linguistically distinct, in a state that constitutionally
consists of Turks. This issue has been with Turkey almost since the foundation of the Turkish State in
1923. The Kurds were promised the creation of an independent state as part of the treaty of Sevres in
1920 but this part of the treaty was never ratified and Turkey has refused to recognize the existence of
a separate Kurdish ethnic community within its borders. Even so, Half of Turkey s Kurds have moved
from the south east to the western cities of Turkey and have increasingly become integrated into the
Turkish economy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So when Mustafa Kamal (Ataturk) began to form a Turkish nation state, it was not clear what
constituted a Turk but soon, Kurds were considered as Turks and a policy aiming at the detribalization
and assimilation of the Kurds was adopted... The Turkish government s pursuit of full assimilation has
led to the proscription of publications of any book, newspaper, or other material in the Kurdish
language. Moreover, there has also been an instance of arrests of entertainers for singing songs or
performing in Kurdish. If we look deeply at the government structure, we can see that historically,
Turkey lacks government openness. With the birth of the Turkish republic in 1923, the Turkish
government did not satisfy the demands of the Kurds who were seeking independence. And since it is
more of an authoritarian and closed system, the public opinion did no have any impact on the
government. The non governmental characteristics of the society as a whole also affect or condition
choices. The Turkish society is the most politically advanced Muslim society of the world: It has deep

Clothing In The Nineteenth Century
Throughout history clothes have a wide variety of meaning, and clothes can simply hint at one s
fashion sense, they also serve to be a reflection of their owner s social and political status. People
throughout the centuries have utilized garments to express their wealth, and or social and political
status. While flaunting wealth can be the product of an ostentatious home for Roman Senators or
commissioned portraits of royalty, clothes have also been a significant factor in this show of wealth.
Social/Political classes are also affected by clothing, people at the top of the classes showed off their
wealth through the clothes that they wore. The classes affected how people were treated as
well, therefore if one dressed lavishly they were treated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The color of an outfit can be used to identify wealth, or it can become the face of a powerful empire, it
can represent fear as well. The color of one s clothing has come to represent many different things in
history, after explaining the importance the color of one s clothes the author explained It came to
represent royalty, wealth, and power (Fashion Victims, para.2) . The British army had red uniforms,
their victories lead red to be seen as powerful. The author explains that the meaning of a certain color
will be different throughout the world: but it is the color of bereavement in India and China (Fashion
Victims, para. 3). Social/Political classes have throughout the history of civilization been important as
they indicate the lifestyle of the person. The way one dresses is also affected by the social/political
class that they are in, the people at the top of the classes would dress lavishly, while the people at the
bottom would wear anything that they could afford to wear. Oftentimes, the wealthy would pass laws
that restricted their subjects foods, materials and clothing in order to further separate themselves from
the poor (Fashion Victims, para. 4). In this manner, attire created a visual divide between the
hierarchical ranks. The powerful also determined the manner in which they were treated with the
utmost respect, as were the wealthy, however the poor were treated as if they did not matter at all.
Therefore, clothes and one s social/political status became a major indicator of the segregation in the
lives of everyday

What Accounting Considerations Are There For Companies...
E) What notable accounting considerations are there for companies in this industry? Most companies
in the telecommunication industry rely heavily on assumptions and estimations when dealing with
their number one assets: telecommunication licenses and Goodwill. A summary of the critical
accounting estimates used in preparing Verizon financial statements is as follows: Wireless licenses
and Goodwill are a significant component of the company s consolidated assets. Both wireless
licenses and Goodwill are treated as indefinite lived intangible assets and, therefore are not amortized,
but rather are tested for impairment annually in the fourth fiscal quarter, unless there are events
requiring an earlier assessment or changes in circumstances during an interim period that indicate
these assets may not be recoverable. Verizon believes its estimates and assumptions are reasonable and
represent appropriate marketplace considerations as of the valuation date. Although the company uses
consistent methodologies in developing the assumptions and estimates underlying the fair value
calculations used in its impairment tests, these estimates are uncertain by nature and can vary from
actual results. It is possible that in the future there may be changes in the assumptions, including
estimated cash flow projections, margins, and growth rates and discount rates which could result in
different fair value estimates and an impairment charge. F) Is the company in a highly regulated
industry?

Lab Report On Plant Cell Walls
Introduction:
Plant cell walls are composed of: Pectin matrices, cellulose microfibrils and branches of
hemicellulose. Cell walls give plant cells their rigid oblong shape (in morphogenesis) and its strength
aids the plant cell s maintenance of osmotic stability preventing lysis and crenation when exposed to
hypertonic or hypotonic environments respectively. The apoplast pathway in the cell wall is also
completely permeable to ions and small particles while preventing the entry of toxic macromolecules.
Second to cell walls, plant cell membranes contain a variety of different lipids (made of fatty acids),
proteins and carbohydrates. The two molecule thick layered structure of membranes is made of a
bilayer of amphipathic phospholipids ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tonoplast is similar the external plasma membrane in that there are also intrinsic transmembrane
proteins which govern the movement of a variety of ions and the one way entry of betalain molecules

In fig.1, the absorbance values of the resultant beetroot solutions show a clear increase with increasing
temperature, this is gradual from 23°C to 60°C, but this steeply increases until 70°C which was the
last data point. Extrapolation may show an exponential increase, until all the red pigment has been
liberated from all of the beetroot cells, and the trend line would thus plateau horizontally.
In fig.2, the absorbance readings of H2O and chloroform are relatively very small almost negligible,
IMS has the second highest reading and Rapid freezing did the most damage to the beetroot cells
membranes with a very high absorbance reading. This was so high that it couldn t be detected by the
monochromatic light from the spectrophotometer dilutions were made as a result and the absorbance
was multiplied to its true value.
Discussion:
The monochromatic light of the spectrophotometer was set to a value of 540nm (the green region of
the visual spectrum). This is essential because the betacyanin pigments present in the vacuoles of
beetroot cells are what give the vegetable its distinctive red colour (light transmitted), so the
compromise green wavelength is absorbed in the greatest

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Intellectual Property
TITLES
There are three common types of intellectual property; patents, trademarks, and copyrights. First, the
patent which is a privilege of the property right owned by the inventor, in other words it is the
property right of an invention. The duration of the patent is twenty years from the time when the
inventor invented the invention. There are some people who sell a patent product without the
authorization of the patent holder; this process is called infringement. If the patent holder discovered
this violation then he/she can bring his/her case to the courts. If the law announced the patent s holder
right then he/she would claim all of the profit which the infringer had received; in addition to the
responsible royalties. In the process of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The advantages and disadvantages of the intellectual property in general; the first advantage of
intellectual property is that the legal fees is not existing, the second advantage is the freedom in
developing or changing the idea, the third advantage is the potential to lead the competition because of
being the first competitor or first seller, but still indeed the movement in some markets is so fast that
the intellectual property or in other words the IP is not worth the wait. There are three disadvantages
of the intellectual property in general; firstly, the usage of the idea which was developed by the person
who own the IP can be by anyone, secondly, someone else could actually protect it, finally, there is no
guarantee that the owner of the intellectual property will be rewarded. The first type of intellectual
property is patents which have some advantages and disadvantages; the first advantage is the patent
banns legally anyone other than the inventor from using the invention, the second advantage is that
only the existence of the patent destroys the competitors, the third advantage is that the patent last
twenty years which is an enough time for the inventor to make and develop his/her market with the
customers, the fourth and final advantage is that the patents are very attractive for the investors
because the competition is almost not effective to the patent holder. As there are some advantages for
patents there are also some disadvantages; first, in the process of establishing patent the applicant is
required to donate both money and time, second, every new application for a patent has to be
researched in order to find that there is no other patent that is no identical patent existing in order to
that search the applicant is required to pay fees, thirdly, it is

Managed Care Through The Delivery Of Health Care
Managed care integrates the delivery of health care and financing of health care. In managed care,
insurance companies controls the cost, quality, and access of medical care to beneficiaries by limiting
the reimbursement levels paid to providers,, by reducing utilization, or both (Beik, 2014, p. 116).
There are different types of managed care. Some of the most common types of managed care are
Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) and Health Maintenance Organizations. Managed care
programs uses different interventions such as economic incentives for doctors and patients, increased
cost sharing, controls on inpatient admission and length of stays, and so forth (Deom, Agoritsas,
Bovier, Perneger, 2010, p. 1). On the other hand, managed care tools such as gate keeping, health care
networks, second opinion requirement, and pre approval requirement for expensive treatments or
hospitalization has changed healthcare delivery on both the macro and micro levels. On the micro
level, it greatly impacts the quality of care, cost, autonomy, and relations with patients. According to
the research study, managed care greatly affects physicians. It reduces career satisfaction through its
impact on doctors autonomy and the pressure caused by managed care may affect the doctor s ability
to provide high quality of medical care. (Deom, Agoritsas, Bovier, Perneger, 2010, p. 7). Like for
example, managed care contracting has a positive and negative impact on physicians and patients. The

Apple s share repurchase program increased by $50billion. Even through this massive buy back

The Murderer-Personal Narrative
It was a cold grey day in late November. The weather had changed overnight, when a backing wind
brought a granite sky and a mizzling rain with it, and although it was now only a little after two o
clock in the afternoon the pallor of a winter evening seemed to have closed upon the hills, cloaking
them in mist. It would be dark by four. The air was clammy cold, and for all the tightly closed
windows it penetrated the interior of the coach. The leather seats felt damp to the hands, and there
must have been a small crack in the roof, because now and again little drips of rain fell softly through,
smudging the leather and leaving a dark blue stain like a splodge of ink. The wind came in gusts, at
times shaking the coach as it travelled round the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

his corner, wrapped his blanket about his knees and muttered in his beard. His nearest neighbour, a
jovial, red faced woman in a blue cloak, sighed heavily, in sympathy, and, with a wink to anyone who
might be looking and a jerk of her head towards the old man, she remarked for at least the twentieth
time that it was the dirtiest night she ever remembered, and she had known some; that it was proper
old weather and no mistaking it for summer this time; and, burrowing into the depths of a large basket,
she brought out a great hunk of cake and plunged into it with strong white teeth. Mary Yellan sat in the

Persuasive Essay On Child Beauty Pageants
It s 6am, and Shona is waking up her 2 year old daughter, Megan for a busy day of spray tans, false
nails, gown fittings and hours of practicing her walk and dance routine for the beauty pageant next
week. Sounds ridiculous doesn t it? But it s true! Children as young as 18 months are prancing around
a stage doing inappropriate dances and being judged on how good they look. In my view this is totally
unacceptable.
Every year in the United States there are about 5,000 child beauty pageants with around 250,000
participants. Of these a shocking 6% will suffer from depression later in their lives. So that s 15,000
children suffering from depression due to beauty pageants. Girls who have been in beauty pageants
suffer from high levels of body dissatisfaction which can lead to depression; they may feel that they
are not beautiful unless they have make up caked all over their face and skin looking orange from fake
tan. Is this really how we want children to feel? Pageant girls are also more likely to struggle to
achieve perfection when they are older. This may make them more vulnerable to eating disorders.
From a young age they have been taught to value outer beauty and thinness, and they will go to any
lengths to achieve it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

disrupters, which means for a growing child they are very harmful. Excessive exposure to phthalates
has also been linked to lung cancer. Despite all of these dangers some children s parents continue to

Technology Advances And Medical Devices For Consumer Use
Introduction
As technology advances, medical devices are able to record increasing amounts of information. These
devices are also becoming much more assessable to consumers than in the past. In Adam Tanner s
article Health Entrepreneur Debates Going To Data s Dark Side, he discusses the company Safe Heart.
Safe Heart is developing medical devices for consumer use. These devices are able to measure values
like blood oxygen saturation, heart rate, and perfusion index. Being able to collect these massive
amounts of data, places these devices in the realm of big data. Although the topic of big data imposes
its own issues, the medical nature of the data creates an additional set of important issues. Safe Heart
is not the first organization to develop devices that collect big quantities of data. In recent years, many
organizations have begun to capture and use large quantities of medical data. Hospitals, credit
agencies and researchers have all started to use medical data to the advantage of either the patient or
their own corporation. With all the data being captured, there are legal and ethical issues that become
apparent.
Main Issues
The most prominent issue related to big healthcare technology data is a legal one. The Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), protects health data that is transmitted by a
certain groups and organizations [1]. It states that consent must be obtained from the patient to
distribute any information to a third party. The

The Toursim Industry in South Africa
The tourism industry is a vast growing trade that in recent years has seen a significant increase in its
contribution to the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of various respective countries. South Africa is one
of the countries that have witnessed tremendous growth in its tourism industry. As much as such
development is a very welcomed phenomenon for any country, growth and development is limited by
a number of constraints. Of importance to this particular study is the issue of seasonality in the
tourism industry.
Seasonality is defined as the fluctuation of situations that has a direct effect on one or more variables.
(McCarthy 1994:275).According to an article by strathprints journals (www.stathprints/journals, 25
April) seasonality in tourism has traditionally been regarded as a major problem which needs to be
overcome, but relatively little research has been conducted on the patterns or causes of this
phenomenon.
The question this study aims to unfold is:
What effect does the seasonal nature of the tourism industry have on the providers of components of
the tourism industry, as well as on unemployment in Mbombela?
The aims and objectives of the study are:
To investigate the negative effects seasonality has on the tourism industry in Mbombela.
To highlight the differences in the rates of employment associated with different points within the
seasonal cycle.
To highlight the internal changes enforced by service providers in the tourism industry as a result of

  • 2. Costco Wholesale Corporation Vs. The Company Essay INTRODUCTION The business outlook for Costco Wholesale Corporation (Costco or the company ) is bright. Costco as we know and love today started out as Price Club, which was founded by legendary business man Sol Price. In 1975, Price was forced out of a chain of discount department store company he founded called FedMart. Shortly after, he drew up the concept of a warehouse store retail model on a napkin. It engages in the operation of membership warehouse in the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, United Kingdom, Mexico, Japan, Australia and Spain. It also has majority owned subsidiaries in Taiwan and South Korea. The company operates as an international chain of membership warehouses. The product line of Costco to their customers includes food (dry and packaged), sundries (tobacco, beverages, cleaning supplies), hardlines (major appliances, electronics, beauty aids), fresh food, softlines (apparel, home furnishings), and ancillary and other (gas stations, pharmacy, food court). By using a membership format, and strictly controlling the entrances and exits of its warehouses, Costco has lower inventory losses than those of other discount retail operators. The company recorded revenues of $116,199 million in the financial year ended August 2015 (Fiscal Year 2015), an increase of 3.2% over Fiscal Year 2014. The mountains give off natural radiation, other forms of radiation are coal burning power plants, x rays from a TV, and an airplane ride. The average dose from background radiation is about 360 mrem every year. There are two types of radiation, nonionizing and ionizing radiation. Examples of nonionizing radiation are microwaves and radio waves broadcasting. Ionizing radiation refers to gamma and x rays. The Harper Review defined competition as the process by which rival businesses strive to maximise their profits by developing and offering desirable goods and services to consumers on the most favourable terms . The purpose of competition policy is therefore to protect, enhance and extend competitive conduct. Competition Law aims to combat certain anti competitive practices that interfere with the efficiency of markets to the detriment of both consumers and other suppliers. Parmalat is a significant producer of UHT milk; however, the majority of this is exported to the Asia Pacific. UHT milk accounts for less than 10% of total milk sales in Australia. Fonterra and the Murray Goulburn group have a similar market share to Parmalat, thereby constraining its market power. Lion Pty Ltd is the industry leader with a 32% market share, however this covers several brands and also includes private label contracts with Woolworths. The fact that the major suppliers operate nation wide and would be present in each market (as discussed above), significantly limits Parmalat s ability to exploit its market power. It is difficult to envisage Parmalat partaking in exclusive dealings or predatory pricing to the detriment of its competitors, given that they have similar resources and would be capable of rebuffing these tactics. Nevertheless, if Parmalat colludes with another supplier, then the combined market share of the firms would be substantial, thus creating scope for cartel behaviour that is disadvantageous to farmers (primary ... Figurative Language In Devil In The White City In the novel The Devil in the White City written by Erik Larson, he entails there is a constant war between good and evil in Chicago 1893, each battle won is a life being made, or slaughtered There are two wolves battling us all right now.... One s good, the other is evil. If you re wondering which wolf inside will succeed, simple, it s the one that you feed... by Ronnie Radke. Larson paints the white city s atmosphere as preppy, educated, society that consists of architects like Daniel Burnham, while the black city portrays a bleak, poverty, society that consists of the serial killer H. H. Holmes. The reader experiences a journey between heaven and hell throughout the entirety of the novel, a dream like euphoria in the white city, and the nightmare like misery for the black. The difference between the two contradicting cities is so great that Larson switches the perspective of the serial killer, H. H. Holmes, and the genius architect, Daniel Burnham, throughout the book; painting this image to portray these differences in the white and black cities by using juxtaposition, figurative language, and imagery. H. H. Holmes travels into the white city, leaving the bleak city frozen in place, Larson uses figurative language to reveal how Holmes starts to convert the white city into a kingdom of his own by seeing beauty and grace in some of the most disturbing scenarios. Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy is a genetic disorder that causes progressive abnormal thickening of the heart (1). This thickening of the muscle of the heart may be minor, slowly progressing or severe producing sudden death. People with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy have a large thick heart muscle, and as a result decreases the cavity size of the heart. This means the heart holds and pumps less blood. Barthold was accompanied by a student flutist and pianist. A lot of time was spent with the flutist and pianist playing a part of a piece, and him teaching and demonstrating on how to improve a piece and explaining the fundamentals of the music. It was a very informative event/class. Barthold Kujiken was born March 8, 1949. He s a Belgian flutist and recorder player. He attended Bruges Conservatory and the Royal Conservatories of Brussels and The Hague, where he studied the modern flute. He is best known for playing baroque music on authentic instruments such as the flute. The majority of the event he talked about Sonata s. As we discussed in class, a sonata is a solo instrument accompanied by a keyboard. In this case the solo instrument was the flute and it was accompanied by a piano. The flutist played a major sonata. • 15. The Revolution Of The Reign Of Terror Revolutions are often started as a response to an unjust form of government, and the Reign of Terror s new revolutionary government was no exception. Although the revolutionary government was meant to replace a tyrannical government, it quickly turned into the dictatorial government it tried to replace and in many cases stepped far outside of the bounds of lawful or just action. During late 18th century France in the time period between the execution of King Louis XVI and the execution of Maximilien de Robespierre, the Reign of Terror senselessly guillotined thousands of people. Conditions in France in 1793 and 1794 were not serious enough to justify the revolutionary government s response due to the response to external threats, response to internal threats, and the extreme methods deployed. The government s response to the external threats to France was indisputably unjustified throughout the Reign of Terror. In 1972, France engaged in war with a Prussian and Austrian coalition (Doc B). Austria and Prussia were primarily motivated because the monarchy didn t want the French Revolution to spread to their country and result in the loss of their own power. However, this is exactly what happened when France took the Austrian Netherlands by 1795 (Doc B), an unwarranted act of aggression that France, the defending country in the war, should not have taken. • 20. John Singer Sargent Research Paper John Singer Sargent, an American artist, is regarded as the greatest portrait painter of the early 1900 s. Sargent, like many prominent artists, was exposed to art at a young age. He was encouraged by both parents, who were artist themselves, to draw. This led to his acceptance into École des Beaux Art School at the age of eighteen. There he was able to study under great artists of that time and his new found love for portraits birthed his career. Sargent paintings often broke the traditional sense of portraiture. They clearly have the influence of photography. Scenes seemed to be cropped, such as the painting Street in Venice. Adrienne Rich s Of Woman Born – The End of Motherhood Essay Of Woman Born The End of Motherhood In Of Woman Born, Adrienne Rich effectively weaves her own story into a convincing account of what it means to become a mother within the bonds of patriarchal culture. Her conclusion that the institution of motherhood, which she distinguishes from motherhood, must be destroyed in order to release the creation and sustenance of life into the same realm of decision, struggle, surprise, imagination, and conscious intelligence, as any other difficult, but freely chosen work is substantiated by her courageous confession that contradicts culturally normative notions of motherhood. It also demonstrates some of the ways in which motherhood has not been women s choice. A reader might be stunned to consider that was written just twenty years ago and that Rich s first pregnancy happened only forty three years ago, since her choices as an educated woman were so limited compared to now. When her account of feeling like she was only acting as a woman (having no idea what she wanted, and having a child because it was expected of a real woman ) is introduced, her lack of choices reads like either a dismal Margaret Atwood science fiction novel or a scene from the very long ago past. Similary, when Rich cites her example of a primitive attitude by quoting a doctor s medical opinion that women are psychologically unbalanced when they attempt to resist the demands of the institution [of motherhood], (263) it is quite surprising to realize that this opinion was written in 1967, a mere thirty years ago. In this way, Rich s story is a tribute to all women who have fought her battle, the battle to have the freedom to choose motherhood. Rich must feel a deep sense of satisfaction in realizing that articulating her struggles has helped many women. Her capacity to transcend her own circumstances is truly remarkable ... Essay on Turkey s Internal Conflict and the Kurdish Minority Turkey s Internal Conflict and the Kurdish Minority Turkey s key internal conflict centers on the role of its large Kurdish minority, ethnically and linguistically distinct, in a state that constitutionally consists of Turks. This issue has been with Turkey almost since the foundation of the Turkish State in 1923. The Kurds were promised the creation of an independent state as part of the treaty of Sevres in 1920 but this part of the treaty was never ratified and Turkey has refused to recognize the existence of a separate Kurdish ethnic community within its borders. Moreover, there has also been an instance of arrests of entertainers for singing songs or performing in Kurdish. If we look deeply at the government structure, we can see that historically, Turkey lacks government openness. With the birth of the Turkish republic in 1923, the Turkish government did not satisfy the demands of the Kurds who were seeking independence. • 25. What Accounting Considerations Are There For Companies... E) What notable accounting considerations are there for companies in this industry? Most companies in the telecommunication industry rely heavily on assumptions and estimations when dealing with their number one assets: telecommunication licenses and Goodwill. A summary of the critical accounting estimates used in preparing Verizon financial statements is as follows: Wireless licenses and Goodwill are a significant component of the company s consolidated assets. Both wireless licenses and Goodwill are treated as indefinite lived intangible assets and, therefore are not amortized, but rather are tested for impairment annually in the fourth fiscal quarter, unless there are events requiring an earlier assessment or changes in circumstances during an interim period that indicate these assets may not be recoverable. Verizon believes its estimates and assumptions are reasonable and represent appropriate marketplace considerations as of the valuation date. Although the company uses consistent methodologies in developing the assumptions and estimates underlying the fair value calculations used in its impairment tests, these estimates are uncertain by nature and can vary from actual results. It is possible that in the future there may be changes in the assumptions, including estimated cash flow projections, margins, and growth rates and discount rates which could result in different fair value estimates and an impairment charge.
