Critique And Critique Of Kantian Ethics

Kant Analysis and Critique

Examination of Kantian Ethics
There is no possibility of thinking of anything at all in this world, or even out of it, which can be
regarded as good without qualifications, except a good will. (Kant, pg.7 393). No other thing that may
appear good can be unqualifiedly good, as even Talents of the mind...Gifts of power...[Other]
qualities...Have no intrinsic unconditional worth, but they always presuppose, rather, a good will,
which restricts the high esteem in which they are otherwise rightly held. (Kant, pg.7 393 394). So
Immanuel Kant introduces the public to his Grounding for the Metaphysics of Morals, which results
not in simply a grounding work, but one that is utterly groundbreaking. This opener, wholly devoted to
the establishment of the importance of will and intention, notes the guiding characteristics of a good
will. As enumerated previously, Kant recognizes the plausible potential positivity of plenty concepts,
but remains of the mind that none of these are good in themselves without the efforts of a good will to
guide and restrict them in a manner that perpetuates their positivity.
He persuasively unveils imperatives both universal and hypothetical, the elements of unconventional
practical reason, and examples of extreme controversy that force people to consider situations from a
previously unconsidered moral perspective; however, Kant s initial moral work is not without its
critique: ranging from

The U Curve Model Of Adaptation
The analysis examines the process of adapting cultural values among Africans migrants in China. The
results of the analysis points out the process of adaptation followed by the influencing factors of
adaptation and finally the challenges faced in the process of adaptation. By using the U curve model
of adaptation, which explained the four stages of adaptation (honeymoon, crisis, recovery, and
adjustment), the study is based on the assumption that Africans migrants follow the same process
and/or stages of adaptation. The U curve model by Sverrelsyaard (1955) applied to many different
migrant groups; the main idea is that migrants go through fairly predictable phases in adapting to a
new cultural situation. The model consists of four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

When The Experimenter Records The Response
respondent answers, and then the experimenter records the response). Lastly, there are a string of self
administered questionnaires that include text computer assisted self interviewing (text CASI, which
are laptops having the question and answer), audio computer assisted self interview (audio CASI,
same thing as text CASI, except the questions are in audio format), and video CASI (questions are in
video format instead). (151 153)
Since many of the modes are related in some form or combination of visual, auditory, and touch, I will
judge the benefits and disadvantages on five dimensions: 1) interviewer involvement, 2) respondent
interaction, 3) privacy measures, 4) channels of communication, and 5) amount of technological
utilization (153).
Interviewer Involvement
The one distinct form that has no interviewer involvement is mail. Telephone has some involvement,
but not as physical as the face to face interview. The face to face branching of SAQs would still have
some interviewer involvement as it would be primarily be delivered by the researcher. The biggest
disadvantage of having an interviewer present is the cost associated with it (i.e. training, supervision,
support, etc.) (153). Another problem, that may be associated with interviewer involvement are the
effects it produces (i.e. answers toward gender behaviors, and the interviewer being of a different
gender may influence those responses). However, the cost of the interviewer still has some benefit as
they can

Mist And Saint Manuel, Martyr
La vida es sueño. Life is a dream. This theme, which explores the boundaries of reality, is featured in
two of Spanish writer Miguel de Unamuno s works, Mist and Saint Manuel, Martyr. Published during
the early twentieth century, both works contrast with the absolute realism of Unamuno s
contemporaries. They include elements such as simple characterization, magical realism, and
metafiction. In fact, to first classify Mist, Unamuno coined the nonsense word nivola, as opposed to
the Spanish novela, novel, and in doing so pioneered a new literary genre, of which Mist and Saint
Manuel, Martyr are strong examples.

Bariaso Hussein Case Study
I m very happy to write this letter and share with you what a pleasure it s been to manage Bariso
Hussein these past six months. Bariso was initially working here at Stoel Rives mail room from 3pm
to 6pm each night after school. With the start of summer, he began working full days from 10am to
6pm, Monday through Friday. Bariso entered this full time schedule with much enthusiasm and he
even expressed interest in learning other duties and responsibilities so that he may better support the
team, and better support Stoel Rives. Bariso learned quickly, and demonstrated a great attention to
detail in his time with us. In addition, Bariso s support over the summer has been a major factor in
many of our team s successes. Bariso was trained in the stocking of work rooms ... Show more content

Bariso took the initiative to improve the process for the Work Room Supply Checklist which he would
use when stocking work rooms. He took a basic, confusing excel spreadsheet and enhanced it into a
clear and concise check list. We will continue to use this same, edited checklist file. This is only one
of many examples of Bariso going above and beyond. In another example, he ran to the post office to
make a 2pm cutoff to mail off paperwork related to an important case. Bariso demonstrated a can do
attitude and helped us bring resolution to many staff requests, urgent and otherwise. Overall, Bariso
has helped my team to raise the bar and improve our level of service. Our Office Services team strives
for service excellence, and I m very pleased to say that Bariso adopted our philosophy. I m also
confident that he ll continue to strive for excellence in all of his endeavors. Please don t hesitate to
reach out to me with any questions regarding Bariso, or the duties that he was responsible for while he
was here. I would be happy to answer any questions that you may

The Internet And Its Impact On The World
The internet is a vast place with information on every topic known to man, even the unnecessary ones
but only 0.03 percent (Jones 2014) of the internet is surfed by the majority of the population. The
other ninety nine point ninety seven percent is left untouched. That other large percentage is possible
to get to but companies like google, bing, and yahoo haven t cracked the code on how to do it but at
the same time choose not to incorporate that large percentage because they think it s too risky to do so.
This unchartered area for most is known by many names such as the darknet, invisible web, and
hidden web but most call it the deep web because of the ocean metaphor many tech savvy people use
to represent the internet and The Deep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now how sites become deep web material is anything from: requiring a password to getting in ,or
encrypted ,or the website is trying not to be found. Thats where programs like Tor come along or
otherwise known as the onion router because the process Tor uses is known as onion routing. Onion
routing is the idea that if someone wants to access a website they go from point A to B like on the
regular internet but since onion routing/Tor is built on anonymity they get from point A to B by adding
more points so on onion routing the user would go from point A to B to C to D to E to F or however
many it takes. How they do this is when a user sends a signal that they want to go to a website then
that signal will be encrypted and sent to a node or just another computer. When the signal gets to that
node a layer of the encryption will be solved and then sent to another node and the same thing will
happen till the signal reaches it s final destination. This process means that search times are a little
longer then normal but it is to insure that the user stays as undetectable as possible. Now Tor s system
is designed in a way that anyone can be a node if they wanted too, all that means is that traffic will go
through the users pc (Tor 2005).
The Deep Web gets a lot of bad reputation due to what resides in the depths. Because the Deep Web is
so difficult to navigate, it leads to many illegal things being stored

Essay on Atonement by Ian McEwan
Atonement by Ian McEwan
Atonement comes from an at onement , the idea being that penance and suffering allows us to be at
one with God or ourselves. The central theme of atonement is that of seeking forgiveness. This is
manifested through the characters and their actions. In the book Atonement by
Ian McEwan, the act carried out by Briony sets of a chain of events, for which either atonement is
sought or society seeks atonement from.
Briony s character is described as being compulsively orderly,
She was one of those children possessed by a desire to have the world just so.
Briony s craving to manipulate and control, and also her perception of how Robbie spoilt her play,
leads her to committing her crime. Her

She wanted to be acknowledged and felt that her condemnation of Robbie would achieve this. She
never considers the possibility of role reversal, when
Robbie would have the power or redemption over her.
Robbie was condemned and sent to prison. He was forced to atone by society, by being refused certain
books and having his letters censored. He was only permitted his mother to visit after being diagnosed
as morbidly over sexed and at risk of being inflamed .
Briony only starts to realise her crime as she grows older. In a letter to Robbie, Cecelia paraphrases a
letter from Briony,
She s beginning to get the full grasp of what she did I think she wants to recant.
When Briony goes to visit Cecelia, the reader comprehends that Briony doesn t want to withdraw her
statement for Robbie s benefit but instead to find favour with her sister and to reassemble her previous
family life:
I don t expect you to forgive me.
Don t worry about that , she said soothingly, Briony flinched as her hopes lifted unreally. Don t worry
, her sister resumed. I won t ever forgive you.
The climax to the scene comes when Robbie makes his presence known to
Briony. Robbie and Cecelia tell Briony that she has to tell everyone what she did. She agrees then
says,
I m very sorry.
Robbie said softly, Just do all the things we asked.

Case Study Of Sandra Cisneros
After rereading Sandra Cisneros work I can draw many connections to my own case study, as well as
Pigg s, and Wardle and Downs. Cisneros work connects to all of these literary critics because she is
working to gain approval. Cisneros is aiming to gain approval from her father by writing her books.
This can connect to all of us because we are all writing to gain approval of some sort. it may be from
our peers or elders, but no matter what the situation, it can be connected to Brandt s theories. when
one goes back to Brandt s idea of sponsorship, one can see how important it is to have a sponsor when
looking at these two cases. Raymond had sponsorship from the minute he was old enough to go to
school. Being from a wealthy family meant his parents could get him any sponsorship he wanted. The
computer he was introduced to helped fuel his sponsorship, and Raymond was able to gain an
advantage in life because of the sponsorship from his family. Whereas Dora, on the other hand, had to
search for sponsors on her own, because her family simple didn t have the money to give her one. Her
lack of sponsorship caused her to drop out of college and become a maid.
These feelings of acceptance can be connected to human psychology as shown by Nathan Dewall, a
psychologist at the University of Kentucky People who feel isolated and lonely and excluded tend to
have poor physical health, DeWall says. They don t sleep well, their immune systems sputter, and they
even tend to die sooner than people who are surrounded by others who care about them (Association
for psychology). Hence, when I was conducting my case study I was working towards gaining
approval from my professor and peers. This idea of acceptance is universal feeling, no matter who you
are what you believe in, you should always be accepted. This is a major part of all of our writing
scenarios because we want people to approve of what we are writing about and the cause behind it. In
Cisneros , article she spent her entire life trying to gain approval from her father through the books
and articles that she has written. Cisneros even claims that everything [she] has] ever written has been
for him, to win his approval (Cisneros 103). This idea of working for

Customer Relationships Management
Customer relationship management (CRM) is a business philosophy and set of strategies, programs,
and systems that focuses on identifying and building loyalty with a retailer s most valued customers
(Levy, Weitz 275). A loyal customer is one who is committed to purchasing merchandise and services
from a specific retailer, he or she resists the efforts of competitors, and also has an emotional
attachment to a retailer. The four steps involved in the formation of a CRM program are collecting
customer data, analyzing customer data, developing a CRM program, and implementing the CRM
program. Implementing CRM programs can be extremely beneficial in increasing business and

Michelangelo s Sistine Chapel
Michelangelo always saw himself as a sculptor, even though some of his most famous works are his
paintings and architecture. In Michelangelo s words, Painting is beautiful in the measure that it
approaches sculpture; sculpture is bad the more it approaches painting . In fact, when Pope Julius II
ordered Michelangelo to decorate the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in fresco, Michelangelo rebelled.
The Sistine Chapel is an example of Michelangelo s impatience with others as previously mentioned.
In the fall of 1508 Michelangelo began the painting of the Sistine ceiling, calling on assistance from
Giuliano Bugiardini, Aristotile da Sangallo, Francesco Granacci and several laborers. However, the

What Are Mismatched Friendships In Of Mice And Men
re are many similarities between the film Shrek and the novela Of Mice and Men. Three categories
that I have examples for are, mismatched friendships, antagonists, and the role of women. The first
category is mismatched friendships. In Shrek, Donkey tags around with Shrek like Lennie tags around
with George in Of Mice and Men. Also they both have their bad moments in each story. In Shrek,
Donkey and Shrek are fighting and arguing all the time, but they still have good, friendly moments,
such as the one when they were laying on the ground looking at the stars and constellations together.
Also another example when he tells him not to come near his house, and he ends up letting him sleep
on the doorstep, and then inside. In Of Mice and Men, Lennie and George are usually nice to each
other, but sometimes when Lennie does something dumb or screws up, George will get frustrated and
tell him he wishes he would go away, or that he wasn t there with him, then he wouldn t have to take
care of him and that he could have an easier life. An example is on page 13, when George says to
Lennie, No, look! I was just foolin Lennie, cause I do want you to stay with me! George just got done
yelling at Lennie and telling him how he wishes that sometimes he wouldn t be with him so that he
could go out and live a normal life and do things with his money, instead of getting in trouble, taking
care of Lennie, and having to move all of the time. He felt bad after he did that, because Lennie

Genzyme s Focus On Orphan Drugs
Genzyme s Focus on Orphan Drugs In this fast paced world that we live in now it is all but impossible
to expect any one to wait for anything these days. We through the innovative technological ideas and
inventions you can make anything with in minutes what use to take hours. Everyone wants to be a
Chief Executive Officer, (CEO) of a major corporation making millions and billions of dollars over
night. No one wants to think through how can they take a company that is barley able to keep it s door
open and it s employees paid to the next level. No one wants to sit down and make up an strategic plan
to move a company to the level of excellence to make the millions and billions. Now a days no one
has the gumption to go to the board of directors and say that I want to put the whole company at risk
for a few years but when we come out we will be at the next level, and oh yeah if we fail the company
most likely will not exist no more. Technological innovations has it s cost and most CEO s are not
willing to take the risk that are needed in the research and development stages to stay the course to
reach greatness in the technology industry. We find very few companies that are willing to say either
we make it or we go under trying to get there. Henri Termeer did just that with Genzyme Corporation
that had only been in existence for two years. Mr. Termeer was willing to put the whole company at
risk for a strategic plan that most people said that it would not work. Mr. Termeer not

New Labour Thatcherism Similarities
For many, New Labour possessed an abundance of similarities to the Conservative governments
previous to it, in particular the 1979 1990 party led by Margret Thatcher. These similarities are evident
in their continuation of Conservative policies and their abandonment of Labour policies that were
previously inherent to the party. It is important to note that I have interpreted warmed up as a term
describing New Labour s less confrontational style of governance in comparison to that of Thatcher.
This essay will be arguing that New Labour was more than warmed up Thatcherism, in fact, they
posed as an advancer of Thatcherism through their continuation of Thatcherite policies and their
decision to build upon them. To evaluate this point, it is necessary to define the origins of both New
Labour and Thatcherism. The 1997 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Thatcher s economic policies including a deregulated financial sector. Upon assuming her role as
Britain s Prime Minister, the economy was the salient issue within Thatcher s significantly monetarist
manifesto as Britain s inflation rate stood at 20% (Bell, D. 1985. P21). A fundamental step to solving
Britain s failing economy, following the winter of discontent according to Thatcher, came in the form
of privatisation. Thatcher s governments sold off a large amount of nationalised industries to private

Christianity, Religion, And Religion Essay
Christianity, one of the western religion which is accepted by more than 30% of the world population.
Actually, I am not part of this religion: I am from Hindu religion, an eastern religion. In my religion,
there are thousands of gods, but I don t even know the name of more than 50 gods. Unlike Hindu, in
Christianity, there is only one God, Jesus Christ, who is the central figure in Christianity. Among the
Christianity community, it is believed that God sends his son to the earth to free the people from pain
and suffering. For the salvation of the people son of God took an avatar of Jesus Christ. It is also
believed that Jesus came back after the third day of his death. As I am the person from a different
religion, I find the different concept of God in western religion. We, Eastern people worship many
gods and we have many festivals to celebrate but in Christianity, people only follow to Lord Jesus. For
them, Christmas is their main festival as it is the birth date of Christ, Easter as the day that Jesus came
back from his death.
According to the Christian mythology, Jesus was born from virgin women Mary. Nearly about 2,000
years ago, Mary was informed by the angel named Gabriel that she would have a son, Jesus, who
would be the son of god. And soon, Mary (the virgin women) gave birth to the Jesus Christ in the
stable. At the birth of the Jesus Christ, the angel tells some shepherds that their savior, Christ had

Proverbs Essay
Proverbs: Choice and Discernment, the Two Ways of Living
In studying the book of Proverbs there is a similar theme of choice and discernment, the teachings of
decision making and the repercussions of your actions. These books are made up of extremes and
polar opposites. The dualisms are the rich and poor, the righteous and the wicked, and the wise and the
foolish. There is advice given and it is up to the judgment of the person to which category they will
fall into. There are two ways of living, and based on the person s discernment and ultimate choice to
which one they will get to live. This paper will focus on Proverbs 10, 12, and 14, Solomon s Proverbs,
to display this theme of choice and discernment. Proverb 10 is an ... Show more content on

The passage is most explicit to what will actually happen if a man chooses the wrong kind of wife. He
will greatly suffer if his judgment was bad on whom to marry, he will experience physical ailments. If
the man uses wisdom in making the decision to marry a capable wife, he will be rewarded for acting
wisely. If you are lazy, you will never get what you are after, but if you work hard, you will get a
fortune (12:27). This passage shows that the repercussions to your decisions can be very bountiful. If
you make the right decision to work hard and not be lazy, you will come into wealth and get what you
are after in life. Retribution is not an entirely satisfactory term, however, for the English word
connotes punishment rather than reward, and immediate rather than gradual consequences . This
passage is showing that there is not just consequences, there are rewards for discernment, and
God/dess will provide those to you. Again, this Proverb is about choosing which way of life suits you;
in all cases, having better judgment and being righteous will always bring you a better life, and be
profitable. Proverb 14 continues to address this dualistic approach on advice. Homes are made by the
wisdom of women, but are destroyed by foolishness (14:1). This passage is very interesting because
Proverbs has been directed mainly to men, and this is telling the men that their women are wise. It
would be foolish to not listen to a woman. Your house is not built with

Music And Its Impact On Society
There are two pillars of society that have and always will be prevalent in civilizations. The first pillar
being competition of power; society will always have individuals in charge of the decisions regarding
the administration of their civilization. Secondly, being the self expression of the human condition
through music. Both concepts widely disparate, although both vital to the constitution of one s identity
and development of their life choices. A person s life will always be altered due to interactions with
their environment. For James Hornaday Murray, the two most influential aspects of his environment

Songs metamorphosed to expression of frustration and anger towards the political choices of
countries. Music concerts were then formed to create a focal point of social change and discovery of
one s self. One of the most momentous concerts in James Murray s life was Woodstock in 1969.
Woodstock was the coalescing of the most influencing artists of their decade making an impact on
their world; James learned from this event how music was more than just an art form but an
outpouring of raw emotion. He learned of the power of music. Woodstock was stationed on a 600 acre
dairy farm in Bethel, New York. Initially its purpose was for the founders to start their own label; it
transformed into a cultural mecca for peace, love and antiwar sentiments. (Sanjek) The youth
counterculture was able to experience musicians such as Joan Baez, Creedence Clearwater Revival,

Dracula, And Michael Pink And Bram Stoker s Dracula
There s a reason why Bram Stoker s Dracula is arguably one of the greatest gothic novels of all time,
and Michael Pink s readaptation of the classic certainly does not disappoint. Pink s Dracula,
performed by the Colorado Ballet on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House at
Denver Center for the Performing Arts with music composed by Philip Feeney left me feeling spooked
and desperately wanting more. Prevailing themes of rising tension, suspense, and terror made for an
intriguing experience that was executed beautifully by a talented cast and crew. The effortless blend of
horror and romance is captivating and offers a range of elements each individual audience member
can appreciate.
Originally premiering in 1996, Bradford Alhambra, England; the dance adaptation of Bram Stoker s
gothic novel, Dracula is divided into three acts, each focusing on a different victim of Count Dracula
(Domenico Luciano). Dracula tells the story of Jonathan Harker (Yosvani Ramos), who travels to
Transylvania to settle a transaction with a nobleman, Count Dracula, over the purchase of property in
England. As demonstrated in the first act, Harker s visit to Transylvania haunts him with recurring
nightmares as he awakes in the sanatorium in shear terror wrapped in his wife s arms. In the second
act, the audience is introduced to Lucy (Chandra Kuykendall), a friend of Harker s wife Mina, who is
so effortlessly seduced by Dracula at a Tea Dance in the Grand Hotel.

The Old Ideas Of Tattoos
Tattooing is a way to design an intelligent pattern onto the body by puncturing the skin.
It was used for spiritual reasons, labeling, medical and punishment. Egyptians would use tattooing for
the protection of women against sexually transmitted diseases , even to label prostitute. Throughout
the years tattoos meaning has differed and grown into new ideas. The old ideas of tattooing have not
yet faded as well, people will still get tattoos for cultural reasons. Tattooing has grown in safety and
time to applying the tattoo. There is now even temporary tattoos that stay for a few weeks at a time
without that dedication of keeping it for the rest of their lives. With only these two ways of tattooing,
permanent and temporary, there has been

Virginia Woolf Quotes
Virginia Woolf is a master in her craft and is able to display the truth of many situations one of these
was in this quote ¨He turned of his own accord and walked steadily in advance of the arms, conscious
of a little amusement at the strange way in which people behaved merely because someone was dead.
Mrs Woolf captured the numbness and confusion that a person feels when they lose those dearest to
them. Shortly after this quote the young man who it is referring to snaps because he realises that he
will have to live in a world without the departed. It is moments like this that Mrs Woolf connects so
deeply to the true emotions that she writes these incredible works that don t romanticize moments of

The whole story is basically this story about how society is shaping this young girl into a woman. The
metaphor is that Virginia Woolf didn t like societies ideals for what a woman had to be and so instead
of allowing this woman to grow, Woolf kills the girl off in an effort to show that societies ideals would
never corrupt that girl. VIrginia Woolf also uses a metaphor when the girl is dying. The girl believe
she is seeing a woman holding a candle. This woman was described as having an almost sinister
presence and was with the girl ass she dreamt of wandering by a river. THe metaphor is that this old
woman is an embodiment of death and the candle is helping to guide this girl towards it and the river
is what must be crossed for the girl to reach death. Mrs Woolf also writes in many smaller paragraphs
instead of fewer large ones. She does this because she has no narration of her piece and the point of
view switches many times. For the same reason, most of the book is dialogue instead of just her
talking as the writer. This also allows for a lot more depth to be built with the characters in the

A Discussion On Ethics And Law Essay
Enron, a Discussion on Ethics and Law
Leadership s Role in Ethical Dilemma
As documented in a promotional video for Enron, Kenneth Lay states: Enron is a company that deals
with everyone with absolute integrity. We play by all the rules. . . We want people to leave a
transaction with Enron thinking they have been dealt with in the highest possible way, as far as
integrity and truthfulness and really doing our business right. (Enron Vision and Values, 1998, 3:32)
Whereas this message was intended to affirm corporate mindset, Lay s business leadership and
conflict resolution promoted the contrary. In 1985, Kenneth Lay founded Enron Corporation to satisfy
his personal ambition and insight in the deregulation of energy markets. As many entrepreneurs do,
Lay placed a focus on the success and future of his business on the financial performance and growth
rate. Although short term success can be gained by focusing solely on the bottom line, long term
success can only occur by first meeting the requirements of the law and maintaining integrity through
ethical decision making. As you will see, Lay s leadership focus on the priority of enhancing the
bottom line actually trumped his ability to promote ethical and legal decision making for his
organization. This conflict was the root of the problem that promoted individuals in the organization to
make unethical and unlawful decisions on a business level as well as personal level.

Civil Rights Act of 1991
Once upon a time our great nation was not so great. Blacks and women of every race did not have
rights like we do now. They were not allowed to vote, work and get paid for equal work. Blacks and
whites were separated, they were not allowed to do or go anywhere there was a white establishment.
There were many protests at this time in our history and many people were hurt and/or died during
political demonstrations. An epic moment in time was when John F. Kennedy brought forth the idea to
pass an act that would protect all people from discrimination of gender, race, color, national origin and
religion. It was a dark time to be a woman or black citizen in our nation. Thus the Civil Rights Act of
1964 was passed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to get compensation from a company for harassment you must have been employed with the
company for at least 20 days or more, and depending on how many employees a company has is how
much compensation they will receive (Bohlander, G.W., Snell, S. (2010).
The Civil Rights Act of 1991 was amended so that employee that are victims of sexual harassment, are
compensated for the damage, whether physical or physiological will receive money for their pain. The
act also covers employee that are intentionally discriminated against. However this act has limitations
like any law. If a company has 14 to 100 employees the compensation would be $50,000, for a
company that has 100 to 200 employees that amount would be $100,000 and if a company has over
500 employees the amount would be $300,000. An employee under the act can also choose to go to
trial if they feel that the compensation for their pain was not substantial enough (Civil Rights Act of
1991. (n.d.).
About 1972 there were 2 different types of sexual harassment rules that were passed with the acts of
64. The first one is Quid Pro Quo, this is when an employer tells and employee to submit unwelcome
sexual conduct, requests for sexual favors and verbal or physical gestures. Examples of this would be
if an employer tells an employee that in order to keep there job they would have to perform a sexual
act. The second rule is Hostile Work Environment, which is when verbal or

Sex Selective Abortion
Sex selective abortion is the practice of terminating a pregnancy based upon the predicted sex of the
fetus. The selective abortion of female fetuses is most common in areas where cultural norms value
male children over female children,[1] especially in parts of People s Republic of China, India,
Pakistan, Korea, Taiwan, and the Caucasus.[1][2] Sex selective infanticide is killing a child based on
the child s sex, usually shortly after birth (sex selective neonaticide).
A 2005 study estimated that over 90 million females were missing from the expected population in
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China, India, Pakistan, South Korea and Taiwan alone, and suggested that
sex selective abortion plays a role in this deficit.[2][3] India s 2011 ... Show more content on

The patriarchal structure of a society is the single most important factor skewing the sex ratio in favor
of males, accentuated in some cultures by the burden of raising a dowry for a daughter s marriage.
Openness to the very concept of sex selection is a significant factor: among societies which practice
selective female abortion nowadays, many were systematically practicing female infanticide (either
directly or by withholding postnatal care from children of undesirable sex) long before abortion
became a viable option.[11]
In modern East Asia, a large part of the pattern of preferences leading to this practice can be
condensed simply as a desire to have a male heir. Monica Das Gupta (2005) observes that, in late
1980s to early 1990s China, there was no evidence of selective abortion of female fetuses among
firstborn children, or in families with one or more existing sons (in fact, families with multiple sons
were, if anything, more likely to abort a boy than a girl). But, at the same time, families with existing
daughters appeared very likely to abort any further female fetuses, resulting in heavily skewed sex
ratios.[11]

The Communist Party Of Nepal
It is said in 10 years, even a river changes its course. It has in Nepal, but in 65 years, shattering its old
banks.
The Communist Party of Nepal (CPN), which was established in 1950, had a humble beginning. It
played no major role in toppling the 104 year Rana oligarchy in 1950. It only won four seats in the
parliament in the first ever multiparty general elections held in 1959.
It suffered a series of breakups. The CPN broke into two after King Mahendra in a royal coup
dislodged the BP Koirala government in 1960, banned political parties and imposed the party less
Panchayat system. One group supported the royal action and the other opposed it. Other breakups
followed, generating nearly a dozen CPNs.
In 1990, when the Nepali Congress Party led a people s movement to restore democracy in the wake
of the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the new wave of democracy on all shores, several of its factions
formed a front and joined the movement. The merger created a strong CPN (United Marxist Leninist).
When King Birendra restored multiparty democracy, the CPN (UML) emerged as the second largest
party in the paliament in the 1991 general election. That is when the river of the CPN seemed to cut its
banks significantly to change its course.
The 1994 general election catapulted the CPN UML to the largest party in the parliament, but sans
majority, and enabled it to form a minority government. But within 9 months, the government
collapsed, thwarting the course change.

PM me or just engage in the comments. I really like the Dark Souls community and I enjoy
contributing. Summary and Results Earlier this week I posted threads in multiple subreddits linking to
a google forms survey. I received over 4,000 responses, people ranging from 13 to 52 years old. We
are mostly male. The median age is 22 and the average age is 23. The average total hours played is
591. The favorite game is Dark Souls 3, with Dark Souls 1 coming in second, followed by
Bloodborne, then Dark Souls 2 then finally Demon s Souls. The first Dark Souls is the majority of
people s introduction to these games. PCs are the preferred system to play on while Xbox is by far the
least favorite. Your gender had little impact on which was your favorite game. However, women are
5% less likely than men to prefer Xbox, holding all other variables I tested for constant. This might
explain why more women prefer Bloodborne and Demon s Souls than men, as PlayStation players
were much more likely to prefer those two games. Older players preferred Darks Souls 1 and Demon s
Souls while younger players preferred Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3. Additionally, younger players
liked PCs while older players preferred a PlayStation. Your preferred gaming system impacted your
preference for games. Xbox

The Impact Of Technology On Change Management
This presentation is about the use of technology in change management. We will review how
technology facilitates changes management. Then recommend best practice for changing management.
This presentation begins by analyzing the report by Mondal (2011) called Entrepreneurship in U.S.
Auto Industry: Ford Stay Ahead. Henry Ford is the founder of Ford Motor Company. As a successful
entrepreneur Ford s practice included technological innovation for cost cutting measure, introduction
of new products, expansion of new market and created new economic organization. Using Schumpeter
s five factor model we will analyze entrepreneurship around innovation.
Ford s Technology in Change Management
In Ford s initial years, innovation technology was used to remodel the most popular model cars; this
increase profit for the business. It used to take Ford 14 hours to build the T model car; he reduced
labor cost using a time known as mass production method. This method reduced the assembly time to1
hr. 33 minutes. This innovation technology reduced labor cost for the new Model T (Mondal, 2011).
Entrepreneur take risk: by creating new products, adapts to new production process, create new
market, and create new technology and economic for an organization. According to Michaelides
Kardasi (2010) development depends upon innovation. This concept includes an introduction of new
goods, new methods of production; the opening of a new market, conquest of a new source of supply

Physical Appearance In Frankenstein
From hundreds of years until now, there are many serious issues concerning human interactions that
have been discussed in different ways and can be seen in countless pieces of work such as the novel
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. In this novel, Shelley wrote about various themes that are significant in
understanding the concept of fitting in with society and human interactions with one another and with
ones self. She was trying to get across important themes that are still relevant today, including the
theme of physical appearance. The theme of physical appearance is shown many times in the novel
and illustrates how people are judged and discriminated according to how they look and the
consequences it may have on individuals.

Quebec Bridge.
First, I would like to tell you about the Golden Gate Bridge. I m pretty sure many of you may know
about this bridge. The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge and was built in San Francisco,
California in 1937. The Golden Gate Bridge spans or crosses the Golden Gate strait which is a mile
wide and 3 miles long. The weight of the roadway is hung from 2 cables that pass through two main
towers and are fixed in concrete at each end. Each cable is made of 27,572 strands of wire. There are
80,000 miles of wire in the main cables. These cables help support the bridge because of the big
distance. The bridge also has approximately 1,200,000 total rivets. So my opinion about the bridge is
that it is a very well made bridge and it also has a very good design.
The second bridge I will be talking about is the Batman Bridge. The Batman Bridge is a cable stay

Dna Evidence And Its Repercussions
We will examine the importance of DNA in the conviction of Tommie Lee Andrews and the
significance of this decision in the United States Judicial System. We will discuss an overview of
some of the essential elements in conducting utilizing this DNA evidence and its repercussions. This
case signified the first time in the United Sates that DNA evidence was actually admissible in court
proceedings during a criminal trial. In 1986, in a neighborhood around the Orlando, Florida area a

Due to the brief period that Hodge had been allowed to see her attacker, the prosecution felt that
stronger evidence was needed to prove a connection. The brief 6 second glimpse that the victim Nancy
Hodge obtained during her ordeal wasn t considered viable enough for trial purposes (Lewis). This
relatively new forensic investigation technic involving the use of DNA fingerprinting was in its
infancy and was pioneered by a British scientist might hold the answer to convicting the rapist.
Because the mistrial of Andrews caught the prosecution off guard due to not having appropriate
information or statistics of its viability, a new plan was needed. The prosecution felt that a stronger
case against Andrews was needed to proceed in court. The prosecutor contacted a colleague familiar
with principles of the DNA evidence in England for guidance. He then contacted a company in New
York used to develop methods of DNA profiling or fingerprinting for assistance.
Once the results of testing were completed in this case, it positively matched two of the six rapes
being investigated. The problems associated with this technology were that no real national database

being fairly new it would require it to go through an

The Individuals With Disabilities Education Act orders all states to give disabled students a free and

succeeded in properly educating them, along with creating a safe environment where they are socially
comfortable and accepted. However, there are too many incidents where teachers improperly handle
these students and administrators do not give enough money to fund adequate supplies for these

Most importantly, children with disabilities have the opportunities to observe, imitate and model the
language use of their peers who do not have disabilities (Grabmeier). By following their nondisabled
friends, disabled students learn how to better communicate their thoughts, feelings and ideas which
makes it easier for teachers to help them and understand them. Another beneficial skill disabled
students receive through mainstreaming is positive thinking. According to Kathy Foust, the
mainstreaming environment allows disabled students to learn what type of behavior is appropriate and
what is not. They learn that listening to a teacher leads to little or no punishments while disobeying a
teacher leads to more punishments. Foust also includes that mainstreaming stimulates self esteem
because the disabled know they are in regular classes, which makes them proud of themselves. These
students believe that since they are in classrooms with nondisabled students, they are in higher and
more advance classes. In other words, since students around the disabled are capable of extraordinary
things, the disabled feel like they are extraordinary as well, thus having an improved self esteem. The

Economics of Carbon Emissions and Climate Change
Economics of Carbon Emissions and Climate Change The economics of climate change is a very
controversial and disputed. To even discuss what should be done economists have to either state
whether or not global warming and climate change exist. According to the CATO article, Climate
Change vs. Climate Models (Michaels and Knappenberger, 2013), The models estimate of the increase
in temperature resulting from a doubling of carbon dioxide concentration may simply be too high. As
questioned in the article, is there such thing as climate change? Next, if climate change does exist, are
carbon emissions a relevant cause of such a phenomena? With all of these questions at hand, how do
we deal or cope with the current environmental state through economic means? Does climate change
exist? According to the U.S. Global Research Program (USGRP), climate change does exist. Not in
the sense of immediate and drastic changes in the climate, but a gradual fluctuation in temperatures
that have been gathered since the early 1900 s. The empirical data that has been gathered shows a

Sympathy For Othello In Shakespeare s Play
The play Othello, written by William Shakespeare, can spark numerous thoughts and interpretations
that differ between individuals based on the point of view of each particular character. For example,
one of the main characters, Othello, endures a considerable amount of complications and events that
lead to his downfall, which he concludes with a final speech. In T.S. Eliot s essay called Shakespeare
and the Stoicism of Seneca, the analyzation of the context suggests that Othello s words and
explanations are simply making the audience think about himself, rather than the horrific actions that
he performed. By examining the language, the tone, and the context of Othello s final speech, I believe

In agreeance to Eliot s analysis of Othello, Othello may center the last half of his final speech in hopes
for sympathy of his audience. Othello directly states that he got caught up in the tricks and
manipulations of Iago and others (V, ii, 364). Othello also speaks of the change that the events that
occurred and the actions that he carried out had on him. By stating that he was not an emotional man,
but then who cried a lot, Othello is suggesting to his audience that the change of his manhood resulted
from the manipulations that Iago forced upon him and the crime that he committed regarding
Desdemona (V, ii, 368 369). At the end of Othello s final speech, Othello describes an event that he
endured while at war to suggest to the audience the way in which he would conclude the speech by
killing himself. In Aleppo, he once saw a Turk beating a Venetian, to which he responded by grabbing
the Turk and hitting him (V, ii, 368 372). Othello then proceeds to kill himself in front of his audience
in the exact manner that he killed the Turk who was beating a Venetian, which draws sympathy from

A Midsummer Night s Dream is a play about love. All of its action from the escapades of Lysander,
Demetrius, Hermia, and Helena in the forest, to the argument between Oberon and Titania, to the play
about two lovelorn youths that Bottom and his friends perform at Duke Theseus s marriage to
Hippolyta are motivated by love. But A Midsummer Night s Dream is not a romance, in which the
audience gets caught up in a passionate love affair between two characters. It s a comedy, and because
it s clear from the outset that it s a comedy and that all will turn out happily, rather than try to
overcome the audience with the exquisite and overwhelming passion of love, A Midsummer Night s
Dream invites the audience to laugh at the way the passion of love can make people blind, foolish,
inconstant, and desperate. At various times, the power and passion of love threatens to destroy
friendships, turn men against men and women against women, and through

Lenin s Legacy
Throughout the 1800s and into the 1900s the industrial revolution s unparalleled level of change
pushed the world into a new era. While change occurred throughout this time, the most radical was the
implementation of Communist ideology in Tsarist Russia. In a series of revolutions, Vladimir Lenin
seized power for the Bolsheviks, establishing the world s first Communist based government. Lenin
found himself in the predicament of building a state which would wither away, something Marx
claimed would happen naturally. However, this had never been attempted before, and quickly Lenin
found himself in a series of trial and error tests. Lenin s untimely death brought about more immense
changes, as a power struggle to assume control over his legacy ... Show more content on

Lenin s revolution placed himself suddenly in a situation which Marx had never written from. The
revolution occurred, Bolsheviks had seized power, and suddenly a state would have to be developed
that would wither away while at the same time facing a civil crisis; a task deemed near impossible
(Lecture, Hoston March 7th). Lenin s own arguments prior to this held a much more anarchical view,
advocating for the abolition of the army, of long term bureaucracy, and of the police force (State and
Revolution 339). These calls would not be what went into effect in the end. It is here we see the first
of the many major departures from Lenin s original theory which began to address the reality Russia
was in. Lenin had realized that a state had to be strong at some point, even if marching towards
communism as Communism, makes the state absolutely unnecessary, for there is nobody to be
oppressed (State and Revolution 375). At the point Lenin was in power, the communists still had those

The Animal Welfare Act Is The United States
Think of a small or large innocent animal, dying a painful death, all because we humans want to
advance and need something to test on. They are only being minimally protected because they are
seen as just our property . Testing on animals is not the problem, the extremely inhumane way that
they are being treated is. Many animals of different species sit in cages of research facilities, instead of
being out in the wild where they belong. They are forced to endure multiple tests every day. These
tests are harmful, sometimes even deadly. The only thing slightly protecting them is the Animal
Welfare Act, But it does not provide very much protection. Those who are supporters of this
movement are usually criticized by people who do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research facilities also have very few restrictions on lab workers. The Animal Welfare Act does not
give the facilities any restraints for their employees. No legal requirements for researchers to consider
alternatives to their use, nor provide them with relief from the pain, distress, or even the most basic
slanderers of care. (Neavas1) Though most are qualified scientists, they do not have to provide a
quality of care which is inhumane to the animal. (Neavas 2) The laboratories that these animals are
stuck in may be unsafe and unclean. The animals live in small, dark cages and are forced to live that
way their entire lives. Animals should be able to ram free and should not be kept locked away in cages
until they are needed. Under the Animal Welfare Act, research institutions are required to establish an
Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee to oversee and evaluate all aspects of the institution s
care and use program. (Neavs1) While the United States Department of Agriculture and the Animal
Welfare Act and Institutional Animal Care and Use systems purport to ensure humane treatment of
animals in labs, the system is plagued with loopholes that leave animals

Mechanism Of Orange Juice Deaeration
Decanter Figure 9, is fed with the blurred orange juice Figure 10 then clear orange juice and pomace
of oranges are gained at the end of the process.
Figure 10. Mechanism of a decanter
Deaeration
Prior to pasteurization, orange juice is deaerated because the presence of dissolved oxygen effects on
color, flavor and most importantly vitamin C. One of the key steps of orange juice processing is
deaeration since vitamin C has high sensitivity of oxygen. Removing air from orange juice provides to
minimize oxidative reactions such as oxidation of ascorbic acid and flavor compounds, and also to
decrease corrosion if the package of juice is made of metal. In addition to this point, the ascorbic acid
content of orange juice is also affected by high oxygen permeability containers. Another negative
effect of oxygen is giving a brown color. During orange juice processing there are some possibilities
of entraining air during pumping, mixing and tank filling. The product quality can be improved by
vacuum deaerator Figure 11. The capacity of the equipment is 3 tons/hour. Residual O2 levels below
0.5 1.0 mg/L depending on product. Figure 11. Deaerator machine set
Pasteurization
Escherichia coli O157:H7 can grow in fruit juices with pH greater than 4. Since pH of orange juice is
less than 4, E. Coli is not a key microorganism for orange juice. The outbreaks in orange juice have
been caused by Salmonella spp. which is related with unpasturized orange juice. Hence, Salmonella is

Drug Testing Benefits
Over 27.1 million people in the U.S. were reported in drug use. An eighth of them people either got
injured or passed away. This is the reason we drug test at jobs. It helps keep the dangers away from
people and businesses. Our society as a whole will improve by being a lot safer. There will be less
shootings and catastrophes due to drugs. That s the purpose of drug testing at jobs.
At work workers always have to be doing their job the correct way. For the employer they have to
have reliable workers. Many companies test job applicants for illegal drug use as part of the
employment hiring process. (Doyle) .Doing a yearly drug test to see who isn t doing their job correct
is an action many businesses are taking now. It makes it a safer environment ... Show more content on

Drug testing at jobs are also helping to lower that rate. There are more and more jobs everyday that
require drugs tests which means it will continue to lower. There is a 500% increase on incarceration s
due to drugs. (Politicalfact). People will either keep doing drugs and go to jail, or stop doing them and
go on the right way in life. The purpose of the drug test is to get people to stop doing them so
everyone can be safer and more productive.
Snyder 1
There is at least a casualty a day caused by drugs. More Americans died from drug overdose in 2016
then died in the entirety of the Vietnam War. (Lopez). Innocent people die from them that are just
bystanders. This has to stop and drug tests are helping. A safer environment is the main reason
businesses started doing this. People should not have to give a life because of someone else s actions.
People at work are protected by the test as well. The employer saves money as well because no
equipment is destroyed and no lives will be taken.
Drug testing is for the better than the worse. The people who think otherwise need to be tested. It
protects people, weather its the user people at work ,or the innocent bystander keeping people off
drugs will help build and protect this country. It s also helping build a new generation drug free, and
that is the goal for drug

Examples Of Life After Death
The Thought of life after death is comforting for some. For others, there is no life after death. Human
beings are the only animals on earth who understand they will die, and throughout history have sought
eternal life or that life will continue after death (Stewart Williams). Steve Stewart Williams, after
looking at many arguments for and against life after death, tends to believe that he does not have a
ghost of a chance (Stewart Williams). I tend to agree with this thinking as well. Stewart Williams
shows some cases for life after death and then shows some arguments against it.
Stewart Williams looks at the examples of paranormal phenomena first. These are the ideas of out of
body experiences, near death experiences, ghosts, mediums who communicate with the dead, and past
life memories. If these occurrences were what they appear, they would be proof of an afterlife, but ...

People may have the wishful thinking without evidence, but it could still be true. Wishful thinking is
not a way of proving that life after death is false. One last argument is resurrection. This, for Stewart
Williams, has many holes. For one, if it is true the body is resurrected, and we are made of atoms
possible from bodies of past people and possible your atoms go into others in the future, how would
God resurrect everyone? Another question Stewart Williams is maybe God uses other atoms, not
within other people, then would you be the same person you were before death if not made up of the
same material you were when alive. I like the thoughts put forth by Stewart Williams, if we are atoms
and those atoms spread after death, then we would not really be the same. Stewart Williams uses the
idea of the you after death is not the same you from before death you would be a replica. I agree with
that, a replica or clone of you from different atoms would not necessarily be you, almost identically
but could not

  • 2. Critique And Critique Of Kantian Ethics Colin Rinne PHI 110 Ethics Kant Analysis and Critique 3 November 2014 Examination of Kantian Ethics There is no possibility of thinking of anything at all in this world, or even out of it, which can be regarded as good without qualifications, except a good will. (Kant, pg.7 393). No other thing that may appear good can be unqualifiedly good, as even Talents of the mind...Gifts of power...[Other] qualities...Have no intrinsic unconditional worth, but they always presuppose, rather, a good will, which restricts the high esteem in which they are otherwise rightly held. (Kant, pg.7 393 394). So Immanuel Kant introduces the public to his Grounding for the Metaphysics of Morals, which results not in simply a grounding work, but one that is utterly groundbreaking. This opener, wholly devoted to the establishment of the importance of will and intention, notes the guiding characteristics of a good will. As enumerated previously, Kant recognizes the plausible potential positivity of plenty concepts, but remains of the mind that none of these are good in themselves without the efforts of a good will to guide and restrict them in a manner that perpetuates their positivity. He persuasively unveils imperatives both universal and hypothetical, the elements of unconventional practical reason, and examples of extreme controversy that force people to consider situations from a previously unconsidered moral perspective; however, Kant s initial moral work is not without its critique: ranging from ... • 3. The U Curve Model Of Adaptation The analysis examines the process of adapting cultural values among Africans migrants in China. The results of the analysis points out the process of adaptation followed by the influencing factors of adaptation and finally the challenges faced in the process of adaptation. By using the U curve model of adaptation, which explained the four stages of adaptation (honeymoon, crisis, recovery, and adjustment), the study is based on the assumption that Africans migrants follow the same process and/or stages of adaptation. The U curve model by Sverrelsyaard (1955) applied to many different migrant groups; the main idea is that migrants go through fairly predictable phases in adapting to a new cultural situation. The model consists of four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lastly, there are a string of self administered questionnaires that include text computer assisted self interviewing (text CASI, which are laptops having the question and answer), audio computer assisted self interview (audio CASI, same thing as text CASI, except the questions are in audio format), and video CASI (questions are in video format instead). (151 153) Since many of the modes are related in some form or combination of visual, auditory, and touch, I will judge the benefits and disadvantages on five dimensions: 1) interviewer involvement, 2) respondent interaction, 3) privacy measures, 4) channels of communication, and 5) amount of technological utilization (153). Interviewer Involvement The one distinct form that has no interviewer involvement is mail. Telephone has some involvement, but not as physical as the face to face interview. The face to face branching of SAQs would still have some interviewer involvement as it would be primarily be delivered by the researcher. The biggest disadvantage of having an interviewer present is the cost associated with it (i.e. training, supervision, support, etc.) (153). Another problem, that may be associated with interviewer involvement are the effects it produces (i.e. answers toward gender behaviors, and the interviewer being of a different gender may influence those responses). However, the cost of the interviewer still has some benefit as they can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Mist And Saint Manuel, Martyr La vida es sueño. Life is a dream. This theme, which explores the boundaries of reality, is featured in two of Spanish writer Miguel de Unamuno s works, Mist and Saint Manuel, Martyr. Published during the early twentieth century, both works contrast with the absolute realism of Unamuno s contemporaries. They include elements such as simple characterization, magical realism, and metafiction. In fact, to first classify Mist, Unamuno coined the nonsense word nivola, as opposed to the Spanish novela, novel, and in doing so pioneered a new literary genre, of which Mist and Saint Manuel, Martyr are strong examples. The Internet And Its Impact On The World The internet is a vast place with information on every topic known to man, even the unnecessary ones but only 0.03 percent (Jones 2014) of the internet is surfed by the majority of the population. The other ninety nine point ninety seven percent is left untouched. That other large percentage is possible to get to but companies like google, bing, and yahoo haven t cracked the code on how to do it but at the same time choose not to incorporate that large percentage because they think it s too risky to do so. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now how sites become deep web material is anything from: requiring a password to getting in ,or encrypted ,or the website is trying not to be found. Thats where programs like Tor come along or otherwise known as the onion router because the process Tor uses is known as onion routing. Onion routing is the idea that if someone wants to access a website they go from point A to B like on the regular internet but since onion routing/Tor is built on anonymity they get from point A to B by adding more points so on onion routing the user would go from point A to B to C to D to E to F or however many it takes. How they do this is when a user sends a signal that they want to go to a website then that signal will be encrypted and sent to a node or just another computer. When the signal gets to that node a layer of the encryption will be solved and then sent to another node and the same thing will happen till the signal reaches it s final destination. This process means that search times are a little longer then normal but it is to insure that the user stays as undetectable as possible. Now Tor s system is designed in a way that anyone can be a node if they wanted too, all that means is that traffic will go through the users pc (Tor 2005). The Deep Web gets a lot of bad reputation due to what resides in the depths. Because the Deep Web is so difficult to navigate, it leads to many illegal things being stored ... • 8. Essay on Atonement by Ian McEwan Atonement by Ian McEwan Atonement comes from an at onement , the idea being that penance and suffering allows us to be at one with God or ourselves. The central theme of atonement is that of seeking forgiveness. This is manifested through the characters and their actions. In the book Atonement by Ian McEwan, the act carried out by Briony sets of a chain of events, for which either atonement is sought or society seeks atonement from. He was only permitted his mother to visit after being diagnosed as morbidly over sexed and at risk of being inflamed . Briony only starts to realise her crime as she grows older. In a letter to Robbie, Cecelia paraphrases a letter from Briony, She s beginning to get the full grasp of what she did I think she wants to recant. When Briony goes to visit Cecelia, the reader comprehends that Briony doesn t want to withdraw her statement for Robbie s benefit but instead to find favour with her sister and to reassemble her previous family life: I don t expect you to forgive me. Don t worry about that , she said soothingly, Briony flinched as her hopes lifted unreally. Don t worry , her sister resumed. I won t ever forgive you. • 10. Case Study Of Sandra Cisneros After rereading Sandra Cisneros work I can draw many connections to my own case study, as well as Pigg s, and Wardle and Downs. Cisneros work connects to all of these literary critics because she is working to gain approval. Cisneros is aiming to gain approval from her father by writing her books. This can connect to all of us because we are all writing to gain approval of some sort. it may be from our peers or elders, but no matter what the situation, it can be connected to Brandt s theories. when one goes back to Brandt s idea of sponsorship, one can see how important it is to have a sponsor when looking at these two cases. Raymond had sponsorship from the minute he was old enough to go to school. Being from a wealthy family meant his parents could get him any sponsorship he wanted. The computer he was introduced to helped fuel his sponsorship, and Raymond was able to gain an advantage in life because of the sponsorship from his family. Whereas Dora, on the other hand, had to search for sponsors on her own, because her family simple didn t have the money to give her one. Her lack of sponsorship caused her to drop out of college and become a maid. These feelings of acceptance can be connected to human psychology as shown by Nathan Dewall, a psychologist at the University of Kentucky People who feel isolated and lonely and excluded tend to have poor physical health, DeWall says. They don t sleep well, their immune systems sputter, and they even tend to die sooner than people who are surrounded by others who care about them (Association for psychology). Hence, when I was conducting my case study I was working towards gaining approval from my professor and peers. This idea of acceptance is universal feeling, no matter who you are what you believe in, you should always be accepted. This is a major part of all of our writing scenarios because we want people to approve of what we are writing about and the cause behind it. In Cisneros , article she spent her entire life trying to gain approval from her father through the books and articles that she has written. Cisneros even claims that everything [she] has] ever written has been for him, to win his approval (Cisneros 103). This idea of working for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. What Are Mismatched Friendships In Of Mice And Men re are many similarities between the film Shrek and the novela Of Mice and Men. Three categories that I have examples for are, mismatched friendships, antagonists, and the role of women. The first category is mismatched friendships. In Shrek, Donkey tags around with Shrek like Lennie tags around with George in Of Mice and Men. Also they both have their bad moments in each story. In Shrek, Donkey and Shrek are fighting and arguing all the time, but they still have good, friendly moments, such as the one when they were laying on the ground looking at the stars and constellations together. Also another example when he tells him not to come near his house, and he ends up letting him sleep on the doorstep, and then inside. In Of Mice and Men, Lennie and George are usually nice to each other, but sometimes when Lennie does something dumb or screws up, George will get frustrated and tell him he wishes he would go away, or that he wasn t there with him, then he wouldn t have to take care of him and that he could have an easier life. An example is on page 13, when George says to Lennie, No, look! I was just foolin Lennie, cause I do want you to stay with me! George just got done yelling at Lennie and telling him how he wishes that sometimes he wouldn t be with him so that he could go out and live a normal life and do things with his money, instead of getting in trouble, taking care of Lennie, and having to move all of the time. Technological innovations has it s cost and most CEO s are not willing to take the risk that are needed in the research and development stages to stay the course to reach greatness in the technology industry. These similarities are evident in their continuation of Conservative policies and their abandonment of Labour policies that were previously inherent to the party. It is important to note that I have interpreted warmed up as a term describing New Labour s less confrontational style of governance in comparison to that of Thatcher. This essay will be arguing that New Labour was more than warmed up Thatcherism, in fact, they posed as an advancer of Thatcherism through their continuation of Thatcherite policies and their decision to build upon them. Actually, I am not part of this religion: I am from Hindu religion, an eastern religion. In my religion, there are thousands of gods, but I don t even know the name of more than 50 gods. Unlike Hindu, in Christianity, there is only one God, Jesus Christ, who is the central figure in Christianity. Among the Christianity community, it is believed that God sends his son to the earth to free the people from pain and suffering. For the salvation of the people son of God took an avatar of Jesus Christ. It is also believed that Jesus came back after the third day of his death. As I am the person from a different religion, I find the different concept of God in western religion. We, Eastern people worship many gods and we have many festivals to celebrate but in Christianity, people only follow to Lord Jesus. For them, Christmas is their main festival as it is the birth date of Christ, Easter as the day that Jesus came back from his death. According to the Christian mythology, Jesus was born from virgin women Mary. Nearly about 2,000 years ago, Mary was informed by the angel named Gabriel that she would have a son, Jesus, who would be the son of god. There is advice given and it is up to the judgment of the person to which category they will fall into. There are two ways of living, and based on the person s discernment and ultimate choice to which one they will get to live. He will greatly suffer if his judgment was bad on whom to marry, he will experience physical ailments. If the man uses wisdom in making the decision to marry a capable wife, he will be rewarded for acting wisely. If you are lazy, you will never get what you are after, but if you work hard, you will get a fortune (12:27). This passage shows that the repercussions to your decisions can be very bountiful. If you make the right decision to work hard and not be lazy, you will come into wealth and get what you are after in life. Retribution is not an entirely satisfactory term, however, for the English word connotes punishment rather than reward, and immediate rather than gradual consequences . This passage is showing that there is not just consequences, there are rewards for discernment, and God/dess will provide those to you. Again, this Proverb is about choosing which way of life suits you; in all cases, having better judgment and being righteous will always bring you a better life, and be profitable. Proverb 14 continues to address this dualistic approach on advice. Homes are made by the wisdom of women, but are destroyed by foolishness (14:1). He learned of the power of music. Woodstock was stationed on a 600 acre dairy farm in Bethel, New York. Initially its purpose was for the founders to start their own label; it transformed into a cultural mecca for peace, love and antiwar sentiments. (Sanjek) The youth counterculture was able to experience musicians such as Joan Baez, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Grateful Dead and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. (Festival concludes) For James, just beginning his adult life, these bands brought on new ideas he never quite imagined were possible. It was due to the fact that he had grown up with parents who lived in an era of conformity. Thus he never experienced this type of self expression and open anger with the American Government. Experimentation with oneself was not permissible. Questioning the government was not thought of and individuals could not make a difference. Woodstock provided ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Dracula, And Michael Pink And Bram Stoker s Dracula There s a reason why Bram Stoker s Dracula is arguably one of the greatest gothic novels of all time, and Michael Pink s readaptation of the classic certainly does not disappoint. Pink s Dracula, performed by the Colorado Ballet on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House at Denver Center for the Performing Arts with music composed by Philip Feeney left me feeling spooked and desperately wanting more. Prevailing themes of rising tension, suspense, and terror made for an intriguing experience that was executed beautifully by a talented cast and crew. The effortless blend of horror and romance is captivating and offers a range of elements each individual audience member can appreciate. Originally premiering in 1996, Bradford Alhambra, England; the dance adaptation of Bram Stoker s gothic novel, Dracula is divided into three acts, each focusing on a different victim of Count Dracula (Domenico Luciano). Dracula tells the story of Jonathan Harker (Yosvani Ramos), who travels to Transylvania to settle a transaction with a nobleman, Count Dracula, over the purchase of property in England. As demonstrated in the first act, Harker s visit to Transylvania haunts him with recurring nightmares as he awakes in the sanatorium in shear terror wrapped in his wife s arms. In the second act, the audience is introduced to Lucy (Chandra Kuykendall), a friend of Harker s wife Mina, who is so effortlessly seduced by Dracula at a Tea Dance in the Grand Hotel. ... The metaphor is that Virginia Woolf didn t like societies ideals for what a woman had to be and so instead of allowing this woman to grow, Woolf kills the girl off in an effort to show that societies ideals would never corrupt that girl. VIrginia Woolf also uses a metaphor when the girl is dying. The girl believe she is seeing a woman holding a candle. This woman was described as having an almost sinister presence and was with the girl ass she dreamt of wandering by a river. THe metaphor is that this old woman is an embodiment of death and the candle is helping to guide this girl towards it and the river is what must be crossed for the girl to reach death. Mrs Woolf also writes in many smaller paragraphs instead of fewer large ones. She does this because she has no narration of her piece and the point of view switches many times. A Discussion On Ethics And Law Essay Enron, a Discussion on Ethics and Law Leadership s Role in Ethical Dilemma As documented in a promotional video for Enron, Kenneth Lay states: Enron is a company that deals with everyone with absolute integrity. We play by all the rules. . . We want people to leave a transaction with Enron thinking they have been dealt with in the highest possible way, as far as integrity and truthfulness and really doing our business right. (Enron Vision and Values, 1998, 3:32) Whereas this message was intended to affirm corporate mindset, Lay s business leadership and conflict resolution promoted the contrary. In 1985, Kenneth Lay founded Enron Corporation to satisfy his personal ambition and insight in the deregulation of energy markets. As many entrepreneurs do, Lay placed a focus on the success and future of his business on the financial performance and growth rate. Although short term success can be gained by focusing solely on the bottom line, long term success can only occur by first meeting the requirements of the law and maintaining integrity through ethical decision making. As you will see, Lay s leadership focus on the priority of enhancing the bottom line actually trumped his ability to promote ethical and legal decision making for his organization. This conflict was the root of the problem that promoted individuals in the organization to make unethical and unlawful decisions on a business level as well as personal level. The selective abortion of female fetuses is most common in areas where cultural norms value male children over female children,[1] especially in parts of People s Republic of China, India, Pakistan, Korea, Taiwan, and the Caucasus.[1][2] Sex selective infanticide is killing a child based on the child s sex, usually shortly after birth (sex selective neonaticide). The patriarchal structure of a society is the single most important factor skewing the sex ratio in favor of males, accentuated in some cultures by the burden of raising a dowry for a daughter s marriage. Openness to the very concept of sex selection is a significant factor: among societies which practice selective female abortion nowadays, many were systematically practicing female infanticide (either directly or by withholding postnatal care from children of undesirable sex) long before abortion became a viable option.[11] In modern East Asia, a large part of the pattern of preferences leading to this practice can be condensed simply as a desire to have a male heir. Monica Das Gupta (2005) observes that, in late 1980s to early 1990s China, there was no evidence of selective abortion of female fetuses among firstborn children, or in families with one or more existing sons (in fact, families with multiple sons were, if anything, more likely to abort a boy than a girl). But, at the same time, families with existing daughters appeared very likely to abort any further female fetuses, resulting in heavily skewed sex ratios.[11] [edit] Genetic Gender linked genetic abnormalities, such as several forms of colorblindness, are linked to recessive genes on the X chromosome. The Communist Party of Nepal (CPN), which was established in 1950, had a humble beginning. It played no major role in toppling the 104 year Rana oligarchy in 1950. It only won four seats in the parliament in the first ever multiparty general elections held in 1959. It suffered a series of breakups. The CPN broke into two after King Mahendra in a royal coup dislodged the BP Koirala government in 1960, banned political parties and imposed the party less Panchayat system. One group supported the royal action and the other opposed it. Other breakups followed, generating nearly a dozen CPNs. In 1990, when the Nepali Congress Party led a people s movement to restore democracy in the wake of the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the new wave of democracy on all shores, several of its factions formed a front and joined the movement. The merger created a strong CPN (United Marxist Leninist). When King Birendra restored multiparty democracy, the CPN (UML) emerged as the second largest party in the paliament in the 1991 general election. That is when the river of the CPN seemed to cut its banks significantly to change its course. This might explain why more women prefer Bloodborne and Demon s Souls than men, as PlayStation players were much more likely to prefer those two games. But A Midsummer Night s Dream is not a romance, in which the audience gets caught up in a passionate love affair between two characters. It s a comedy, and because it s clear from the outset that it s a comedy and that all will turn out happily, rather than try to overcome the audience with the exquisite and overwhelming passion of love, A Midsummer Night s Dream invites the audience to laugh at the way the passion of love can make people blind, foolish, inconstant, and desperate. At various times, the power and passion of love threatens to destroy friendships, turn men against men and women against women, and through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Lenin s Legacy Throughout the 1800s and into the 1900s the industrial revolution s unparalleled level of change pushed the world into a new era. While change occurred throughout this time, the most radical was the implementation of Communist ideology in Tsarist Russia. In a series of revolutions, Vladimir Lenin seized power for the Bolsheviks, establishing the world s first Communist based government. Lenin found himself in the predicament of building a state which would wither away, something Marx claimed would happen naturally. However, this had never been attempted before, and quickly Lenin found himself in a series of trial and error tests. Lenin s untimely death brought about more immense changes, as a power struggle to assume control over his legacy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lenin s revolution placed himself suddenly in a situation which Marx had never written from. The revolution occurred, Bolsheviks had seized power, and suddenly a state would have to be developed that would wither away while at the same time facing a civil crisis; a task deemed near impossible (Lecture, Hoston March 7th). Lenin s own arguments prior to this held a much more anarchical view, advocating for the abolition of the army, of long term bureaucracy, and of the police force (State and Revolution 339). These calls would not be what went into effect in the end. It is here we see the first of the many major departures from Lenin s original theory which began to address the reality Russia was in. Lenin had realized that a state had to be strong at some point, even if marching towards communism as Communism, makes the state absolutely unnecessary, for there is nobody to be oppressed (State and Revolution 375). At the point Lenin was in power, the communists still had those they needed to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Animal Welfare Act Is The United States Think of a small or large innocent animal, dying a painful death, all because we humans want to advance and need something to test on. They are only being minimally protected because they are seen as just our property . Testing on animals is not the problem, the extremely inhumane way that they are being treated is. Many animals of different species sit in cages of research facilities, instead of being out in the wild where they belong. They are forced to endure multiple tests every day. These tests are harmful, sometimes even deadly. The only thing slightly protecting them is the Animal Welfare Act, But it does not provide very much protection. Those who are supporters of this movement are usually criticized by people who do not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research facilities also have very few restrictions on lab workers. The Animal Welfare Act does not give the facilities any restraints for their employees. No legal requirements for researchers to consider alternatives to their use, nor provide them with relief from the pain, distress, or even the most basic slanderers of care. (Neavas1) Though most are qualified scientists, they do not have to provide a quality of care which is inhumane to the animal. (Neavas 2) The laboratories that these animals are stuck in may be unsafe and unclean. The animals live in small, dark cages and are forced to live that way their entire lives. Animals should be able to ram free and should not be kept locked away in cages until they are needed. Under the Animal Welfare Act, research institutions are required to establish an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee to oversee and evaluate all aspects of the institution s care and use program. (Neavs1) While the United States Department of Agriculture and the Animal Welfare Act and Institutional Animal Care and Use systems purport to ensure humane treatment of animals in labs, the system is plagued with loopholes that leave animals ... • 44. Mechanism Of Orange Juice Deaeration Decanter Figure 9, is fed with the blurred orange juice Figure 10 then clear orange juice and pomace of oranges are gained at the end of the process. Figure 10. Mechanism of a decanter Deaeration Prior to pasteurization, orange juice is deaerated because the presence of dissolved oxygen effects on color, flavor and most importantly vitamin C. One of the key steps of orange juice processing is deaeration since vitamin C has high sensitivity of oxygen. Removing air from orange juice provides to minimize oxidative reactions such as oxidation of ascorbic acid and flavor compounds, and also to decrease corrosion if the package of juice is made of metal. In addition to this point, the ascorbic acid content of orange juice is also affected by high oxygen permeability containers. Another negative effect of oxygen is giving a brown color. During orange juice processing there are some possibilities of entraining air during pumping, mixing and tank filling. The product quality can be improved by vacuum deaerator Figure 11. The capacity of the equipment is 3 tons/hour. Residual O2 levels below 0.5 1.0 mg/L depending on product. Figure 11. Deaerator machine set Pasteurization Escherichia coli O157:H7 can grow in fruit juices with pH greater than 4. Since pH of orange juice is less than 4, E. Coli is not a key microorganism for orange juice. The outbreaks in orange juice have been caused by Salmonella spp. which is related with unpasturized orange juice. Hence, Salmonella is ... • 45. Drug Testing Benefits Over 27.1 million people in the U.S. were reported in drug use. An eighth of them people either got injured or passed away. This is the reason we drug test at jobs. It helps keep the dangers away from people and businesses. Our society as a whole will improve by being a lot safer. There will be less shootings and catastrophes due to drugs. That s the purpose of drug testing at jobs. At work workers always have to be doing their job the correct way. For the employer they have to have reliable workers. Many companies test job applicants for illegal drug use as part of the employment hiring process. (Doyle) .Doing a yearly drug test to see who isn t doing their job correct is an action many businesses are taking now. It makes it a safer environment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Drug testing at jobs are also helping to lower that rate. There are more and more jobs everyday that require drugs tests which means it will continue to lower. There is a 500% increase on incarceration s due to drugs. (Politicalfact). People will either keep doing drugs and go to jail, or stop doing them and go on the right way in life. The purpose of the drug test is to get people to stop doing them so everyone can be safer and more productive. Snyder 1 There is at least a casualty a day caused by drugs. More Americans died from drug overdose in 2016 then died in the entirety of the Vietnam War. (Lopez). Innocent people die from them that are just bystanders. This has to stop and drug tests are helping. A safer environment is the main reason businesses started doing this. People should not have to give a life because of someone else s actions. People at work are protected by the test as well. The employer saves money as well because no equipment is destroyed and no lives will be taken. Drug testing is for the better than the worse. The people who think otherwise need to be tested. It protects people, weather its the user people at work ,or the innocent bystander keeping people off drugs will help build and protect this country. It s also helping build a new generation drug free, and that is the goal for drug ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Examples Of Life After Death The Thought of life after death is comforting for some. For others, there is no life after death. Human beings are the only animals on earth who understand they will die, and throughout history have sought eternal life or that life will continue after death (Stewart Williams). Steve Stewart Williams, after looking at many arguments for and against life after death, tends to believe that he does not have a ghost of a chance (Stewart Williams). I tend to agree with this thinking as well. Stewart Williams shows some cases for life after death and then shows some arguments against it. Stewart Williams looks at the examples of paranormal phenomena first. These are the ideas of out of body experiences, near death experiences, ghosts, mediums who communicate with the dead, and past life memories. If these occurrences were what they appear, they would be proof of an afterlife, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People may have the wishful thinking without evidence, but it could still be true. Wishful thinking is not a way of proving that life after death is false. One last argument is resurrection. This, for Stewart Williams, has many holes. For one, if it is true the body is resurrected, and we are made of atoms possible from bodies of past people and possible your atoms go into others in the future, how would God resurrect everyone? Another question Stewart Williams is maybe God uses other atoms, not within other people, then would you be the same person you were before death if not made up of the same material you were when alive. I like the thoughts put forth by Stewart Williams, if we are atoms and those atoms spread after death, then we would not really be the same. Stewart Williams uses the idea of the you after death is not the same you from before death you would be a replica. I agree with that, a replica or clone of you from different atoms would not necessarily be you, almost identically but could not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
