Purpose
For the purpose of the gram staining experiment was to learn this specific type of staining
technique, as well as learn how distinguish the differences between Gram positive and Gram
negative stains. This technique uses crystal violet stain, Gram s Iodine, Ethyl Alcohol, and
Safranin. These dyes are used in order to distinguish between the different types of cells. For
example, Gram positive staining will result in a purple color, and Gram negative staining will
result in a red or pinkish color (University of Central Oklahoma department of biology, 2016).
When a bacteria results in a purple stain it is categorized as a gram positive stain because the
alcohol that was used to decolorize the bacteria was not successful. Its cell wall is made with a
thick layer of peptidoglycan and holds the crystal violet color (Case, Funke, Tortora). When a
bacteria results in a red or pinkish color, this means that it loses the crystal violet dye color after
being decolorized and keeps the Safranin dye. It would then become categorized as a gram

Skiing is one type of sports that has begun to increase in popularity. Athletes are always trying to

biomechanics is one important way of improving your athletic performance, and limit injuries.
However, there are many pros and cons within the biomechanics of skiing. I would like to learn
more about leg alignment and form and how these can affect the skier. Abnormalities of the leg

balanced movement. My methods of data collection to analyze my subject s skill movement will
consist of a multi methods approach. This approach includes a mixture of literature reviews,
observational review through video analysis, and interviews with the athlete. These data
collection methods will help me in my project by allowing me to strategically point out
differences in angular placement and posture, along with speed variations due to changes in
position. I will be able to compare a professional style of skiing with that of a novice skier and

are uncordial behaviors. The crime of driving a vehicle or operating a motorized machine while
under the influence of alcohol is totally against the law of the land, but some people still won t
stop. Is there any gain in drunk driving than loss of lives, loss of driving privileges, and property
vehicles? One third of traffic deaths involve alcohol impaired driving (MADD). Therefore, a
behavior that involves a tiny proportion of drivers is one of the key causes of death on the roads.
This is an indication that retaining the licenses of drivers involved in drunk driving is not enough to
deter drunk driving because some people in this category are still driving even though their
licenses have been suspended or revoked. For this reason, it is necessary to adopt more strict
measures to deal with the problem. In particular, drunk driving can be prevented through the use of
ignition interlock systems and sobriety checkpoints at an individual level while a school based

The ability to perceive lightness is a key component in completing everyday tasks. However, due to
the variations in illumination and context, lightness perception theories fail to fully explain lightness
perception for all situations. The anchoring theory of lightness perception (Gilchrist et al., 1999)
successfully provides a theory that explains the accurate yet systematic inaccuracies of human
lightness perception under vast conditions (Murray,2013). These conditions are governed by
frameworks, which are groupings of surfaces that belong to each other more or less as determined
by 5 factors; Depth, Orientation, Penumbrae, Junctions and Grouping (Gilchrist et al, 1999).
However, as anchoring occurs independently within each framework, other theories have been

to skim over large periods of time without leaving the reader with questions, and gives just enough
detail that the audience is able to understand past events. Richler gives a great amount of detail
about one particular incident that enhances the essence of the event and contrasts with the last few
sentences. The small conversation that Richler added gives the reader a greater respect for what
Leo accomplished, and by contrast, demonstrates the great misjudgement the narrator made.

Orange Coast College Student Dance Concert
The Dance concert is the Orange Coast College Student Dance Concert having multiple dances
of different types of dances. It s inside the Robert B. Moore Global Theater. It s starts at 8:00 and
ends at 10:00pm and I went on April 28th, a Friday night. The artistic directors are Amelie Hunter
and Shana Menaker and I believe to be one hundred people or more in the theater. So it s a full
house fill with students and adults alike.
What I enjoy during the concert was the dancers performing without being distracted or scare by the
audience. Granted it s to be expected and the dancers are not strangers to this, but nice to see
performers not buckle down to the pressure of fear because of the audience. At the same time, I
understand that they do, but what I have seen they didn t show it. What I don t like was not the
quality the dances, but the different types of dances shown. Most dancers I saw only modern or
contemporary pieces and the only thing different was the hip hop pieces. I didn t seem to find
classical ballet, tap, jazz or anything to diversify the concert. While I didn t find the concert a
chore to watch and was engaging, but I find myself looking at the hip hop dances more than I

This investigation is aimed to find whether there is a relationship between cognitive empathy and
primary and secondary psychopathy. A correlational design was used, in which the Levenson self
report scale Levenson (1995) and the Reading Eyes Mind Test (Baron Cohen et al., 2001) were
administered to 452 first year psychology students. Major results showed a weak, significant,
negative correlation between primary psychopathy and empathy; there was no significant

Both poems display suffering in similar ways; Both poems demonstrate the effects of war. Wilfred
Owen and Jane Weir are angry and frustrated about what has happened during and after the war.
Questions are a most common feature of both poems, they are designed to make the reader think.
Both writers make use of literary techniques to draw attention to especially important parts of the
poems. Even though they displayed suffering in similar ways they still used their own ideas and
approaches; Owen writes from the pointof view of someone who was involved in the war. Weir
writes about mainly one soldier affected by the war.
Owen had joined the army in 1915 yet was hospitalized in May 1917 experiencing shell shock.
Owen, in the long run, came back to the war, however, was tragically killed days before the war

gives a direct image of life in the trenches during WW1. By the winter of 1917, the two sides had
huge losses of soldiers and extremely frosty climate. It was said to be the coldest winter in living

African Americans in Los Angeles and throughout the United States have experienced racial
oppression for centuries. Rodney King was an African American motorist who inspired positive
police reforms after he had a brutal conflict and was beaten by four members LAPD. Rodney King s
encounter resulted in a social and legal compromise because the incident made people aware of the
police brutality, gave African Americans a voice against police abuse, and resulted in reforms to the
way that the LAPD responded to the communities of color.
The Los Angeles Riots were the second Riots to happen after the Watts Riots. The L.A Riots took
place on April 9, 1992. The riots broke out in less than a day and lasted five days and killed more
than 50 people and left more than 2,000 injured. On April 30,1992, writers Richard A. Serrano
and Tracy Wilkinson wrote an article in the Los Angeles Times newspaper saying hours after the
verdicts were announced, angry demonstrators torched, buildings, looted stores and assaulted
