Stoning Is A Form Of Execution
As most people know, women have been victims of injustice for hundreds of years, but one form of
torture stands out amongst them all in Pakistan. Stoning is a form of capital punishment where a
group of people throw stones at a person until he or she dies, more often women than men. Because
stoning is a lot slower than other forms of execution, it is considered a form of execution by torture.
In other countries like Afghanistan and Iraq, stoninghas been declared illegal, but it is still being
practice extra judicially. In modern times, allegations of stoning are politically sensitive, as in
the case of Iran, which describes such allegations as political propaganda. Stoning still happens
today. There are 15 countries in which stoning is either practiced or authorized by law, even if it
has never been practiced. In Iran, Mauritania, Nigeria (in one third of the country s states),
Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen, stoning is a
legal punishment. However, out of these countries, only in Iran, Pakistan and Somalia have
stoning s actually occurred and all instances in Pakistan have occurred outside the legal system.
Stoning is used as a punishment for those who commit adultery. The husband has the honor to
throw the first stone. Her children are also forced to participate. They are allowed to try and
escape, but they are left at a disadvantage because they are buried to their chest, as opposed to men
who are only buried

The Beauty Of Nature By Mary Shelley
The beauty of nature is often overlooked and underappreciated in today s society. The neglect
and lack of respect given to such a beautiful creation by members of society is widely reflected in
Romantic poetry. The romantic era began in 1798, where writers such as William Wordsworth
and Samuel Taylor Coleridge expressed their opinions and feelings towards nature. Overall such
writers typically express a positive outlook on the natural world around them, however some stray
the other way. Specifically Coleridge and Wordsworth began to express the feeling of disconnect
towards nature. Both writers began to feel as though they could not understand nature and cannot
connect with the beauty it gives off as expressed in poems such as Dejection , London 1802 , and
Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey . Not only did some of these writers begin to
feel a disconnect but a select few also begin to feel as though people are disrespecting the balance of
nature and are trying to disrupt the balance and manipulate it. Writers such as Mary Shelley, author
of the novel Frankenstein, expresses the concern of people taking the laws of nature and twisting
them. Writers and people living during this time period not only express an appreciation for nature
but also the truth about the human relationship with nature. The relationship between humans and
nature is on of mistreatment. Overall the romantic period expresses a writers feeling towards nature
and the environment around

The Influence Of Ancient Greek Culture
Ancient Greece often feels familiar in a strange way. From the spoils of Achilles (hero in the poem
The Iliad), to the Trojan War, from perfect measurements of the Parthenon to the amazing flawless
sculptures, Greek culture has uniquely and indirectly shaped our world. Thankfully the large eye
catching archaeological sites, impact of Hollywood and the literary sources, Greek art and culture
is embedded in our consciousness, arising visions of erudite philosophers, epic battles and limbless
nude sculptures that decorated the sparkling white temples.
Distributed around the Mediterranean Sea, the ancient Greece was united by its culture and art.
What further strengthened these bonds were the so called festivals and sanctuaries that embraced
and encouraged competition and interaction. Although most of the understating of ancient Greece
belongs to the Fifth Century BCE Athens classical art, it is of significance that we realize that
Greece was vast and did not come ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The period is infamous for the tall marble kouras (male) and kore sculptures, for example the statue
of Pharaoh Menkaure and his wife in which the male stands rigidly with both arms hanging on his
sides and in contraposto.
Though the Classical Period (480 323 BCE) began as an experimentation, it soon achieved the
postures and postures that were too realistic and naturalistic. The Aphrodite of the Knidos became
one of the most worshipped and celebrated sculptures in all of Greek antiquity. Unfortunately, the
loss of Cleopatra in 31 BCE at the Battle of Actium, the classical period eventually came to a
decline and so did the Greek art and culture. However, with Roam admiration of Greek art and
architecture, the aesthetic works and techniques of the classical period continued to live on till

Role Of Women In The American Revolution
The American Revolution was a colonial revolt in which America fought for its independence
from Britain. Several groups of people stepped up to contribute during the Revolution that
deserve a great deal of recognition. Beginning with women, who in spite of their low position in
society still served in a variety of ways. Women took on the roles of men when men were away at
war. There were women who were bold enough to serve on the battlefield alongside men. They
were determined to prove that they were just as capable of doing what men could do. African
Americans, both free and enslaved, also served in the Continental Army. African Americans fought
bravely and eagerly, as some even ended up becoming heroes. They were willing to be a helping
hand and would even lie to be able to fight for America s independence as well as their own.
Foreigners were another group who supported America by providing trainers and leaders.
Foreigners also supported America financially to get the army the supplies it needed. Without the
help or support of all these different groups of people, America may not have won its independence.
Despite the low position women held in society, they participated in any way they could during the
war. When their husbands were away fighting, they took over their husbands positions as weavers,
carpenters, blacksmiths or shipbuilders. Others transformed their homes into hospitals for the
wounded, as explained in Document 2. Document 2 also describes how hundreds of

Descriptive Essay About Tinker Bell
The bearing summer heat shines down on us. My black wool socks absorb the heat, making my
feet feel sticky like gum. My dance shoes hug my toes. Not the sweet, grandma type hug, but
more of a strangling and choking squeeze. The actors next to me are suffering as well. I hope our
stage makeup doesn t sweat off. I whisper to my neighbor Boy, it sure is hot today. The boy next
to me has a bandana tied around his head hiding his short, wispy tan hair. When the show is over
it my as well be a mop of sweat. He whispers back Shhh! There is a slight tone in his voice.
Suddenly, a small, sparkly girl glistens pass our handmade ship we are leaning on. It s Tinker Bell. I
can hear her tiny voice interact with the audience, introducing our story. The other fairies raise
their delicate voices crescending to the final not of the song. A half hour, the sun ticking a wy
like a clock in the sky.... Heh. That reminds me of the Tic Toc Croc. The actress who portrays
this character wears a ginormous croc costume, which is most likely a million degrees. That
does not dent her kindred spirit though. She always dab at the end of her song. Hey! It s our
cue! taps my neighbor Jenny. I stand up and focus my senses under my eyepatch. Soon our song
begins. We burst out of the ship in a chorus like fashion chanting: Yo ho, Yo ho, a pirate s life for
me. As we walk drunkenly across the stone water fountain cement, ur beloved captain appears. He

Stereotypes In The Real World
Stereotypes are all around us. Wherever one goes there will be stereotypes for people, groups, or
even animals. For example, pit bulls are known to be vicious dogs, even though there are many
pit bulls that are nice and friendly. These stereotypes can cloud good people s judgement of
others just solely based on appearance. This prejudgment of a person can hurt them various ways
in the real world such as applying for a job. A man that wants to be a nurse can hurt his manliness
because nurses are thought to be a job for women only. The genderstereotypesin this world are not
making anything better, just worse. In order to get one step closer to gender equality we as a
society need to eliminate stereotypes as a whole. Now, some may say that... Show more content on

stereotype of these goofy dads yet it is. If you take a look at older TV shows compared to new
ones you ll notice one big difference in the way dads are portrayed. In the old shows, dads were
depicted as old, stern, classy men. But nowadays, dads are all goofy and dumb. Could this change
be related to the new upcoming society? The TV producers may want to film to appeal to the

Bebbington s Quadrilateral Definition
It would be a misinterpretation of Bebbington s work to argue that he understood the evangelical
movement to be detached from the historical contexts. He developed his quadrilateral by surveying
a certain recognizable Christian faith group within the historical context of Modern Britain from
the 1730s to the 1980s. However, his definition itself is ahistorical. In other words, the strict
application of Bebbington s quadrilateral may result in the inclusion of the first century Christians,
who had a very high view of the Scripture, actively preached the gospel in the public square, who
cherished their own conversion moment as their core identity, and, most of all, who confessed Jesus
as their Lord and Savior. Indeed, John Stott traces the origin... Show more content on

Although it is a rarity, evangelical movements that have developed in isolation with no influence
from the Western evangelical movement may exist in some parts of the world. The local
evangelical movements can relate to the global evangelical movements and its origin from the

identity would be the salient identity or a secondary identity should be decided by the local
evangelical movement themselves, but what matters for them is the recognition that the Protestant

Summary Of Breaking The Law By Frank Trippett
Everyday there are people in the world who are breaking a law, either it is loitering, speeding,
making prohibited turns on the roads with cars, running a red light, or smugglers. Law breakers
appear a lot more often which includes people who regularly obey the laws. Frank Trippett, in
his passage states that social order is awfully unstable when regular law obeying citizens end up
disobeying the laws. He claims that these law breakers and citizens who were once law abiding
citizens are either breaking laws involving taxes or simple laws like speeding. Frank speaks in a
worried tone that is intended for audiences of people who often break the laws and ones who
may intend to in the future. Breaking of laws are prohibited and there are people who regularly
break the laws, but it is problematic when ones who regularly obey the laws end up being law
breakers.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

break the law] . Ordinary citizens are even becoming scofflaws, which just adds to more people
who casually break the law. The breaking of laws may lead to many issues including traffic
accidents by law breakers on the road, theft, pollution of our environment, or threats to the daily
life of citizens due to murders. Some break laws by choice, others do not care, some may have been

Cardiovascular Health And Endothelial Function
According to Simmons and Brown (2013), the sedentary lifestyle is one of the 5 major risk
factors for cardiovascular disease and causing over 3 million deaths each year in worldwide. In the
past 10 decades, there are numerous scientific reports pointed out the relationships between
cardiovascular health and physical activities. Based on the US Surgeon General s report on
Physical Activity and Health (1997), evidence from this report shows that more active individual
tends to develop less coronary heartdisease (CHD) than sedentary counterparts. Therefore, regular
activities have been proved to have a positive effect on many of established risk factors for
cardiovascular disease. This essay, firstly, will delineate the relationship between cardiovascular
health and endothelial function. And follow by discussing how physical activities benefit
cardiovascular health and endothelial function.
The endothelium is a type of epithelium that lies on the interior surface of lymphatic vessels and
blood vessels, which are vascular endothelial cells and lymphatic endothelium. Vascular endothelial
cells have different functions, such as helps to regulate blood clotting, maintain the vascular
homeostasis, produce vasodilating properties substances or hormones (e.g. NO) to control the
blood pressure, and repair the diseased or damaged via injection of blood vessel cells. Evidence
from many scientific studies shows that there is a strong association between endothelial

Moral Relativism In High Schools
Today s society places feelings above all else. Feelings trump logic, reason, and other basic
principles that all great societies value. This shift in predilection towards feelings has caused
society to begin making decisions based on feelings as opposed to logic.
Moral relativism is the philosophy where things such as ethics, morals and positions of right and
wrong are subject to one s own beliefs; this philosophy eliminates all objective truths. Slowly but
surely, society is turning into a moral relativistic society where everyone is free to create their
own truth based on how they feel. For example, an objective truth would be The killing of
innocent life is wrong, but a moral relativist could just as easily say, I feel that killing ... Show more

In order to combat this ever pervasive problem, it must be attacked at the roots. This could be
achieved through the teaching of good philosophy. This solution is not as easy as it seems though.
Creating an environment that fosters intellectual thought and philosophical discussion within the
school system will undoubtedly help students question ideas that are currently left unquestioned.
Making philosophy class mandatory in high schools will nurture thoughtful minds that can entertain
an idea without accepting it. Possessing the ability to do this will benefit students far greater than a
guitar class or most other electives for that matter. A philosophy class will teach students
rudimentary principles taught by some of the greatest thinkers of all time Aristotle, Socrates, and
Plato. These basic principles will uproot and contradict many things society values today, most of
which will be moral relativism.
The implementation of philosophy into high schools is a macro solution that is far above
anything I can do in my life at the moment. Despite this fact, I can still have an effect on a micro
level. By living out the good philosophy that should be taught in schools, I allow my peers and
community to see the effect that this philosophy has. Having people lead by example and live out
their philosophy is one of the easiest ways to change those around

Increased productivity can lead to an organisation having a more sustainable competitive
advantage in the market place (Li et al, 2007; Riemer et al, 2009). Reducing the time to market
is especially important from a managerial strategic point of view, within the sphere of
competitive ecommerce systems. Some of the reasons why it is important to reduce the time to
market from a managerial view point are as follows: Avoiding contract creep Schedule slippages
Budget Overrun (Riemer, Steinfield, Vogel, 2009) Collaboration among members within an
organisation as well as people outside an organisation has proven to be beneficial in the
productivity of an organisation. The resulting increase in productivity can be attributed to the
increase in ideas and information being shared (Li et al., 2007; Reimer et al., 2009). In order to
create a virtual environment where collaboration can take place, collaboration is done through

Rainbow Springs History
Long before the Florida Turnpike and the Interstate Highway System ramped up to full speed and

Orlando, to see what all the hub bub was about in the early 1970s. The venues and attractions may
be long gone, but they are not forgotten, as memories of the wonderful tourist and roadside
attractions that were a piece of Florida history, are recalled.

True Islam Has Been Hijacked
True Islam has been hijacked. The public image of the Muslim community, not only in America, but
globally, has been tainted by small groups of extremists. The extremists ideas stem from
conservative interpretations of the Quran, and are not as widely followed as most people assume.
Some examples from the Quran that extremists interpret differently than most often have to do with
the term disbelievers; Quran 48:29, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with
him are severe against disbelievers, and merciful among themselves. The disbelievers in this verse

After the Golden Age, which is the age of the four rightfully guided caliphs, empires were
established. If Islam is likely to gain ground globally, he states that they must separate faith and
state. Mr. Hamid then goes on to state that this is unlikely to happen, because Sharia (Islam
canonical law) is tied so closely with the religion and state. The solution therefore, is stated that
Islam should follow Western pattern and separate faith and government. A partial reason that we
continue to see Islam struggling with separating their faith and government is, because some see
Islam as a political ideology and think it never was a religion since they never separated from the
government. Another is more simply because many Islamic states have tried numerous political
ideologies, such as: communism, secularism, democracy, tyranny, monarchy, and so on. Keeping
Islam s separation issues in mind, the first event to analyze is the Iranian Revolution, which led to
the hostage crisis. The Iranian Revolution was the result of persecuted Iranians who were tired of
the current dynastic governance. The Revolution was led by the Grand Ayatollah Ruhollah
Khomeini and overthrew Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, who was friendly with the United States.
The Revolution began in October, 1977 and lasted until January, 1979, when Iranbecame an Islamic

The Importance Of A Simple War Game On A Grid
Description: In this project, I paired up with Ryan Thomson to design a game with about 15
minute time limit. The prompt was to make a simple war game on a grid. At the beginning, we
just came up with some simple rule to begin the game because we knew that we will improve the
rule after we played the game. One of the most important that I learned during I was working on
this project is that playable games take time and testing. It is okay to start with a simple game
idea, and we will improve on it later. Out first draft games were expected to suck, which is going
to be a lot of error and unclear rule, and it also won t be able to play through the end. It helps that
we did not put too much pressure on ourselves. The war game is a common structure with grid

Reflection Paper On Clubbing
This section drove me confused at some crucial points and I was literally got scared for the fact of
getting different answers from one student to another. In my survey, I collected data among equal
number of male and female correspondents and I found out that most of the students are not
appreciating of what I thought about joining a club along with acquiring good academic results.
Figure 1: Column chart showing how students feel about clubbing
Here, my goal was to find out what the students think of clubbing before driving them into my
main questions and it seemed around 50% correspondents rated 3, around 29% rated 4 when on the
other hand, rest of the people nearly hate clubbing as around 4.17% rated both hate it and 1 as their
responses which was quite shocking for me to know about the fact that most of the correspondents
were not interested enough of feeling good about clubbing.
Figure 2: Pie chart showing student s response on clubbing as a mandatory part
In this part I wanted to know whether the students want clubbing as their obvious choice along
with their academic subjects or not. Major part of correspondents disagreed with around 37.5%
responses, 29.2% stayed neutral as they were unable to decide probably, 12.5% strongly disagreed
with the fact when only 20.8% correspondents agreed with it and they assumed yes it should be a
mandatory sector for every student along with academic subjects. This led me to a thought that
students do not want to drive themselves into clubbing without a solid interest and they ended up
discouraging those who wants to be a part of clubbing to learn something new.
Figure 3: Line chart showing whether the clubbing students are advanced or not
I also wanted to know about the preference of my correspondents and whom do they support in
respect of advanced students as some might think that students who are involved in clubbing might
have something extra than the other ordinary students or some might think that joining a club
cannot make one advanced literally and around 75% responded that no it is not mandatory to join
clubs to be more advanced and only 25% correspondents agreed that yes clubbing students are
advanced than the ordinary students because of their daily field

How Does Art Spiegelman Use Animals In Maus
Maus is successful by the special way of describing a historical tragedy, the whole story is written
in graphic memoir. Art Spiegelman uses animals to represent each category of character in the
story, and each animal has a certain meaning. He replaces cats as Nazis, pig as Polish, dog as
Americans, and mouse, just like the title of the story, Jews.
We associate with Tom and Jerry which is cats chasing mouse when we think of mice. Nazi,
which is cats, treat Jews like hunting mice. A mouse, which have to spend whole their life to
escape from cats to avoid the destiny of being a part of the food chain and complete the mission
of reproduction. Likewise, the Jews are not considered human, Nazis treat them a kind of animal,
it was a miserable period for Jews to live. According to Adolf Hitler s quote in the beginning of
Maus, The Jews are undoubtedly a race, but they are not human. Art Spiegelman uses this
conception to create mouse as the main character in the story. ... Show more content on

believe, and accomplish Hitler s goal. The cat is also part of the food chain, but they hunt mice

Essay On Stamp Act
Stamp Act Haven t they done enough Who do they think they are We are our own this is not
right Colonists protest at the news of the new law. The year of 1765 and the Stamp Act was
passed by the British Parliament, and the colonists were not happy. Taxation without
representation is how the colonist saw it. The Stamp Act was a tax that came from the British,
which required colonists to pay a tax for every single piece of paper they used. Britain had an
official stamp that was required to buy a piece of paper. Newspapers, legal documents, license,
ships paper and even playing cards all required a stamp. This is where the Stamp Act inherited its
name. Taxes were sent straight to the king for his war. In the colony of Jamestown there was a

The Process Of Sol-Gel Processing
Sol gel processing is prevented by nanomakes particles which causes pores surface with controlled
pore size ranging from few nanometers to tens of nanometers to allow biomolecules loading. The
dynamic light scattering (DLS) particle size analyzer (Malvern Instruments, Malvern, UK) will be
used for size characterization, polydispersity index (PDI), and the zeta potential of SHMNCs. In
addition, SHMNCs can be visualized by scanning electronmicrograph (SEM) method (Fig. 9 B C).
The Number of pores on each SHMNC can be varied by changing the ratio of masks and interior
templates molar concentration[23].
Synthesize of SHMNCs is illustrated in (Fig. 9): 1. Mixing of positively charged amine

Hence, different size of SHMNCs need to be fabricated (Table 2). The pores size on the surface
of SHMNCs are controllable by choosing different nanomasks diameter. The size of each pore
will be approximately around 25 35% of nanomask diameter. For instance, using 100, 60 and 40
nm nanomasks diameter, result mesoporous of 30В±4, 20В±3 and 12В±2 nm in diameter,
respectively [23]. The pore size should not be smaller than the maximum length of enzyme which
needs to be loaded in SHMNCs. Here, since the maximum size of enzyme is 12.2 nm (CaMKII),
the pores size cannot be less than 12 nm. Therefore, the 40 nm nanomask is the smallest nanomask
that will be applied to create SHMNCs.

Teens And Teen Pregnancy
As us females were young we all seem to become mothers, by playing with dolls, and playing
house with others our age. It may be easy for us to say that as children we thought they needed
some assistance, but in reality that was only our imagination. As little kids did we really think
about what it would be like to really have a baby? We were children, but see the thing here is that
teens are still children who are having other children. 16 year olds do not just wake up thinking
they want to have a baby, most of the time it just happens without being planned. Teens often do
not think about what life would be like as a parent which is easy to happen and we should be
informed on the reasons why and what it really is like. The first reason why a girl can easily get
pregnant is not being informed about contraceptives. There are about 1,700 school based health
centers nationwide in which about в…“ provide contraceptives. Sexual education is very
important when it comes to this, there are states that still require parents to sign off their children
receiving any sexual education in schools, in which many of the cases the parents and their kids
are too embarrassed to talk about. Although it is the parent s responsibility to talk about it, they do
not. When a teen is sexually active, it is important for them to let a parent know, so that they can
get checked. Another possible reason can be unwanted sex. According to Teenhelp.com four in ten

Collaborative Learning As A Teacher Student Relationship
Collaborative Learning
Collaborative learning is a situation in which learners attempt to learn together. The people involved
in collaborative learning capitalize on one another s skills and resources. Under these
circumstances, they share information, monitor each other s work, and evaluate ideas together.
Each participant is accountable to the rest of the learners (Bruffee 636). The learning can be online,
chart rooms, or face to face, and may involve group projects, collaborative writing, debates, joint
problem solving, and study teams (Bruffee 638). In essence, collaborative learning redefines the
traditional learning paradigm in which learning was a teacher student relationship.
Collaboration can be used in various situations to enhance a student s ability to learn. One way in
which collaborative learning can be used is in group projects. Group projects help learners develop
skills that are increasingly important in the professional world. Positive group projects enhance
students learning, retention, and success of the entire group and school (Bruffee 640). Working on
a project in collaboration fosters the student s ability to manage time, break complex tasks into
smaller parts, challenge assumptions, and develop stronger communication skills. The overall
benefits of group projects include; pooling of knowledge and skills, holding all members
accountable, developing approaches to problem solving, tackling projects that cannot be tacked by
individuals, and finding the

How Did The Cold War Containment
The U.S. had a foreign policy of containment during the Cold War and wished to stop the spread of
communism by the Soviets because they send economic aid to Western European countries and
they collaborate with democratic nations who are resisting subjugation. The containment policy
resulted in the joining of NATO (i.e. the end of isolationism) and the majorly successful Truman
Doctrine, Marshall Plan, and the Berlin airlift. Those policies paved the road to stop the spread of
communism to the Western European countries and Asia. (3)

The Problem With Homeless Today
Week 7 Assignment:
The Problem with Homeless in America
Equilla Simmons
Boston University
One of the basic human needs is shelter. While many people take having a roof over their head
for granted, there is a plethora of people that have no place to call home. However, America has
become a place where Social Darwinism is vastly accepted, leaving several people that are
homeless with limited resources. In January 2013, 610,042 people were homeless on a given
night. Most (65 percent) were living in emergency shelters or transitional housing programs and 35
percent were living in unsheltered locations (Cortes, Morris, Henry, 2013, p.1). While this is a

Homelessness has no age limit. Nearly one quarter (23 percent or 138,149) of all homeless people
were children, under the age of 18. Ten percent (or 61,541) were between the ages of 18 and 24,
and 67 percent (or 410,352) were 25 years or older (Cortes et al., 2013 p.6).
This shows how the problem affects every cohort and it s sad that children have the highest rate of
homelessness. Many people tend to blame the homeless person for making the wrong decisions in
their youth. However, the youth have the highest rate of homelessness and they haven t even had
the chance to make some of those decisions. 20% of homeless youth are LGBT, mostly due to
severe family conflict
They are the most vulnerable along with older people and being older increased the risk of
experiencing a violent attack (Meinbresse et al., 2014). In addition, the veterans that risk their life
for the American system make up a certain percentage of homeless people. According to The
Department of Housing and Urban Development, there were 57,849 homeless veterans on a single
night in January 2013. Sixty percent were located in shelters or transitional housing programs, and
40 percent were in unsheltered locations. Just under 8 percent (4,456) were female (Cortes et al.,

The Olympic Olympics At The 1988 Seoul Olympics Essay
The 100m final during the 1988 Seoul Olympics, went from being called the greatest race in
history to the dirtiest race in history over a time period of 24 hours. Ben Johnson Bronze
medalist at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, Gold Medal at the Rome World championships
in 1987 and a former record holder for the 100m sprints and now a permanent dent in the history of
Canadian and Olympic history after he tested positive for the anabolic steroid Stanozol, at the 1988
Seoul Olympic games.
The event everyone had been waiting for at the Seoul Olympics was that of the 100 meter final
where spectators and fans would be able to who the fastest man alive was. The Rivalry between
Carl Lewis and Ben Johnson had been built up after many years of close competition most
notably since the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics where Carl Lewis winning gold for America and
Ben Johnson winning bronze for Canada. When Ben Johnson won the 100 meter final at the
world championship in Rome he had beaten Carl Lewis five times before and gained a world
record. This caused him to become very popular with the media and in Canada with people seeing
him as a new hope for Canadian sports after their embarrassment at the Montreal Olympics in 1976
with Canada being the first country to hold the Games and not win a single gold medal. After
Rome Carl and Ben both set their sights on The Zurich track and field meet on August the 17,

The Indigenous People Of Australia
Ever since the colonization of Australia by the British Empire in the 18th Century, the indigenous
people of Australia have been subject to social inequalities that have left their community ravaged.
This treatment of the indigenous people was justified by the concept of Racial Othering, and it
continues to perpetuate the unequal treatment of the indigenous people in Australia, to this day. One
group of people are deemed the norm, and everyone else is designated as the Other, who are
considered deviant (Fozdar, Wilding Hawkins 2009, pp. 4 5). In the case of the Indigenous people,
Racial Othering was originally based on physical differences determined by genetics that differed
from raceto race, but today it also takes into account the cultural differences of people (Wilding
Hawkins 2009, p. 5). What exactly Racial Othering is, and just how it has contributed to the
inequalities experienced by the indigenous people of Australia, and what those inequalities are, will
be elaborated on below.
To begin with, the concept of Racial Othering must be properly explained. It is an offshoot of
Othering itself, which as explained by George Herbert Mead, is a process whereby people learn
to become members of the society they belong to, by defining themselves by what they aren t,
rather than what they are (Mead, 1934). Typically, those differ to the majority of people in society
will be considered deviants, and the majority considered the normal. In this vein, Racial Othering is

Prediction Of Home Prices Of A Metropolitan Area
Prediction of home prices. Using the above regression equation, one can determine the expected
home prices of a metropolitan area based on the median income of that area. For a metropolitan
area with income at 100,000, putting the value into the regression equation, one gets 2016 Median
Price to be 269.7 + 0.008357 * 100,000 = 269.7 + 835.7 = 566. The expected median home price =

Does the relationship between income and home prices differ among metropolitan areas of

The Fall of Krispy Kreme Donuts
MBA 6154 Dr. Plath
By:
Jon Plyler
Luke Sagur
Introduction
Since its IPO in April 2000, Krispy Kreme grew to be a top pick of Wall Street Analysts. The
company s growth seemed unstoppable and Krispy Kreme was able to beat Wall Street s
expectations. Krispy Kreme continued to outperform until 2004 when some accounting woes were
brought to light and analysts starting noticing other anomalies that indicated that things were not
quite as good as they seemed. The firm s stock price quickly plummeted from its peak and lost
more than 80 percent of its value in only 16 months.
This case study focuses on the use of financial statement analysis, and other factors that an equity
analyst would use to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The associates were able to carry on with business as usual but the Area Developers are responsible
for helping to grow the business. Each Area Developers incur a one time franchise fee of up to
$50,000 then pay up to 6% of sales to Krispy Kreme as a royalty and 1% of annual sales as an
advertising fee. The franchise royalties account for approximately 4% of Krispy Kreme s revenue.
Krispy Kreme By The Numbers: Financial Statement Analysis
Krispy Kreme s investors enjoyed a quick return on their investment after the IPO. By the end of
2000 the stock price had doubled, then shot to a high of 4.5x the IPO price by mid 2001. Krispy
Kreme was one of the new glamour stocks on Wall Street, but from the standpoint of an educated
investor was it healthy enough to support the success of its stock? An analysis of the Krispy Kreme
financials should give some insight into the health of the company.
Krispy Kreme s revenue increased every year between 2000 and 2004, from $220m to over
$665m. Along with growing revenues, the operating and net profit margins also increased every
year. The operating margin increased from just under 4% in 2000 to over 15% by the end of
2004 and the net profit margin increased from just under 3% to over 8% during the same time
period. The ROA and ROE though the time period were relatively steady at an

A Study On Carbon Dioxide Gas
LITERATURE STUDY
2.1 Carbon dioxide gas
2.1.1 Overview
Carbon dioxide, in its gaseous form, is a natural constituent gas of the Earth s terrestrial atmosphere
[5]. According to the standards outlined by The International Institute of Refrigeration the chemical
formula for carbon dioxide is CO2 and the refrigerant code for carbon dioxide is R744 [6]. CO2 gas
is poisonous to living organisms when inhaled in a sufficiently concentrated form. The molecule
of carbon dioxide consists of two oxygen atoms bonded to one carbon atom. It can be produced by
the combustion of hydrocarbons, as the product of breathing of living people and animals and by
fermentation [7]. The carbon dioxide molecule is illustrated in the figure that follows: Figure 2:

Grad School Application Essay
I have often been asked by architecture students and professionals visiting Chandigarh on how it
feels having grown up and educated from this city a single stroke, paradigm shifting undertaking by
the father of modernism himself. I reply with an inherently paradoxical answer. While on one hand
it has served as a major source of my exposure towards architecture and urbanism, alongside shaping
my perception and critique of urbanity, it has also engendered in me a curiosity towards the other ,
the traditional, emergent and incremental forms of urbanism prevalent all over the Indian sub
continent.
On a vocational tour of Kolkata, I observed how the local administration woos immigrants and the
poor for votes, by allowing them to vend goods ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I took advantage of the opportunities provided during my undergraduate career to appraise the
present performance of the city against the conceived, modernist planning ideals. In an assignment
for the urban design class, I investigated the image of the city as perceived by the largely illiterate
rickshaw pullers, which navigate through it on a daily basis. It helped me to learn how the
vocabulary of nodes and landmarks synonymous with traditional towns, still continues to be used
by them. I illustrated this by drawing sector maps using Lynch s taxonomy of urban elements. For
a national competition to design a people s mall, I looked into the supply chains and networks
across the city, which transform sliver spaces within its formal fabric, appropriated by informal
vendors and hawkers. Each sector, devised as homogeneous, self sufficient neighborhood units, now
specializes in various resources leading to a differential development of the uniform grid layout.
In my final thesis project, I researched on Chandigarh s gridlocked, urbanized villages which
emerged as by products of the rational planning, juxtaposing contrasting forms of urbanism. A
British filmmaker once dubbed them as subaltern subversions of the grid, whereas a nuanced
investigation revealed how the existing form and pattern critiques the extended family
neighborhoods of the pre existing agrarian settlement. In my

The Benefits Of Dual Enrollment For High School Students
The dual enrollment program provides high school students the opportunity to earn college credit
while still in high school. This program is beneficial in three main ways. The first way is that it
provides the opportunity for students to save money. Students can take college classes at no cost,
including the books they need. Secondly, students have the ability to graduate high schoolwith their
Associate of Arts degree. This will save students two years of collegethat they otherwise would
have had to pay for if they hadn t taken the classes through the dual enrollment program. Lastly,
students who earn college credits through dual enrollment will earn a higher chance of acceptance
to universities. Overall, dual enrollment is nothing but beneficial for high school students. Students
should take advantage of their opportunity to be in this program. It will save them time, money, and
give them a higher chance of acceptance into their university of choice.
Benefits of Dual Enrollment
This paper will provide information through facts and opinions on why Dual enrollment is
beneficial for high school students.
Dual enrollment enables students to earn transferrable college credit toward a degree or credential
by providing high school students with the opportunity to enroll in college courses and earn college
credit through partnerships between local school districts and institutions of higher education.

Editing Time and Space in Movie Making
Citizen Kane (1941)
The manipulation of time and space in the film of citizen cane is different from that of Pulp Fiction
in that it considers formal elements of film technique such as Mise en scene where it essentially
involves a costume, setting and makeup staging and lighting (Belton, 46). The very important scene
that happens in front of the camera appears in the final shot of the film. The setting function of the
film has highlighted the key aspect of Kane s life compared to Pulp Fiction that is seen to intersect
in many venues (Belton, 37).
Cinematography has been used in the process of capturing the moving images and the manipulation
of such images (Belton, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because the editor has been able to create something in the movie that cannot be filmed by
the use of various techniques in order to show the change of time visibly. These techniques give
the editor a chance to give a different effect and be able to create something totally different to the
film. The use of technique shows people an object change or the environment of an object change
of a certain period of time such as a person acting in the film such as getting older or younger
(Belton, 57).
The film of Pulp Fiction is a good example of manipulation of time and space. Quentin Tarantino
directed an iconic film that was filled with humor and violence as well as a nonlinear storyline. The
art of the techniques is used to connect the interconnecting storylines of the mobster, fringe players,
the mysterious briefcase and the small criminals (Belton, 46). This has presented the film in a
chronological manner as a result of its unconventional structure, the extensive used of homage and
the pictures of self reflexity. The holdup stage dinner starts the film in where the technique of time
and space is used in order to pick up the story of Jules, Vincent, and Butch (Belton,

Analysis of the Play Candide Essay
In Act One of Candide, there is four scenes, the first scene is entitled Westphalia, when the scene
is first introduced the music has a happy sound, similar to that of circus music and as the
introduction goes on the music goes from an allegro tempo to a peaceful and dream like piano
sound and grave tempo. As the musiccontinues to come in the lights continue to brighten on stage
as well as if the music and lights are tied together. As the cast came out they performed the
opening song during this song they harmonized really well. In Scene One the audience is
introduced to the Baron and Baroness of Westphalia, Baron Thunder ton Tronck and Baroness; the

During a later part of Scene Two when the cast is dancing the movements match the music, they
appeared to be doing the Waltz, so the music had abrupt changes. In Scene Three: Cadiz, the
orchestra plays some sad and somber music at the beginning. As the scene progresses the music
goes from dark and dismal to happy and cheerful. During one of the songs of Scene Four: Paris
the Old Lady, Cunegonde and Candide were discussing a flight and the music being played by
the orchestra matched the lyrics bringing the idea of a flight to life. The Old Lady has a mezzo
soprano voice she executes all of her notes well in the song. At the end of scene three Candide,
Cunegonde, and the Old Lady leave to go to a new place and in the song they sing there are
rounds, which were well executed. It helped change the mood again which brightened up the
audience. In Act Two, Scene One: Buenos Aires, the music has a fast tempo and the music is
being played at a forte level, as the music continues it suddenly softens to piano and the tempo
slows down. Later in the scene during one of the songs you could hear a washing board being
played which added a new sound to the music the audience was hearing. When the audience is

Gouty Arthritis
Gouty arthritis, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and left ventricular hypertrophy are the main
diagnosis. American College of Rheumatology diagnostic criteria for gout is the presence of urate
crystals in the joint fluid (Hainer et al., 2014). Monosodium urate crystals are seen under a
polarizing light microscope which confirms the diagnosis of gout. Furthermore, the most commonly
affected area is the first metatarsophalangeal joint. Other common sites are mid tarsal joints, ankles,
knees, fingers, wrists and elbows. Also, gout appears to be red and swellon in the affected joint
(Saccamano, 2015). Similarly, patient had left knee pain with redness and swelling. Hypertensionis

I should have ordered gram stain and culture of synovial fluid to rule out septic arthritis (Pujalte,
2015). Even though monosodium urate crystals are found, it is important to order gram staining
and culture of synovial fluid because gout and septic arthritis can coexist (Saccamano, 2015). It
is less likely to be rheumatoid arthritis because of negative RF factor, negative ANA, absence of
joint stiffness and symptoms are unilateral (Pujalte Albano Aluquin, 2015). Rheumatoid arthritis
has a symmetrical presentation. It could be cellulitis because of the presence of warm, tender,
swollen and tenderness in the left knee. Cellulitis can be both sudden or gradual (Baddour,
2015). Also, symptoms worsen and erythema expand over the course of hours or day. Hence,
gradual worsening of signs and symptoms with the treatment of gout point towards cellulitis. It is
not pseudogout because of the absence of calcium pyrophosphate crystals and elevated uric acid
level (Hainer et al., 2014). The patient with pseudogout can have symptoms similar to gout and
respond to NSAIDS (nonsteroidal anti inflammatory drugs). I did not consider trauma as one of
the differential diagnosis but, DXR recommended to consider one. I agree because sudden onset
of pain could be the cause of trauma or injury. Since patient smokes pack a day and has been
smoking for the last 30 years, I should have considered nicotine dependency as my additional

Teaching Gifted and Talented Students
Modifying Regular Classroom Curriculum for Gifted and Talented Students
Many educators have become well versed in modifying the regular classroom curriculum to meet
the needs of students with disabilities. Educators are not as experienced, however, in meeting the
instructional needs of high ability students. In a growing number of states, revisions in regulations
pertaining to gifted and talented students are requiring that high ability students, previously served
in part time pull out programs, must also receive appropriate instruction within the context of their
regular classrooms. For example, in Kentucky, high ability students can no longer be viewed as
sufficiently served by a once monthly or once weekly program. These students ... Show more

Alternate assignments for high ability students can either be projects related to the modified area of
study that extend the curriculum, or they can be independent projects that are chosen based on
students individual interests. Winebrenner (1992) described a strategy in which students use
written independent study contracts to research topics of interest to become resident experts. The
students and teacher decide upon a description and the criteria for evaluating each project. A
deadline is determined, and by that date, each student must share his or her project with the entire
class. Before choosing their projects, students are also given time to browse various areas of
interest. After completing compacted work, students are allowed to look through research materials
to explore various topics. A deadline for choosing a topic for independent projects is also given to
the students to limit their browsing time.
Scheduling Modifications
Cooperative learning through traditional heterogeneous groups is often counterproductive for high
ability students. When the learning task involves a great deal of drill and practice, these students
often end up doing more teaching than learning. When placed in homogeneous cooperative learning
groups, however, gifted students can derive significant learning benefits. This does not mean that
high ability students

Essence Of Waqf In Quran And Hadith
Introduction
Essence of waqf in Quran and Hadith. In the verses of Quran, By no means you attain
righteousness unless you give 9freely) of that which you love, and whatever you give, of a truth
God know it well. (Al Imran, 3:92). And in Hadith, the Prophet said: When a man dies his acts
come to an end, except three things which is recurring charity, knowledge (by which people
benefit), and pious offspring, who pray for him .
Waqf is by no means an insignificant instituition in Islam. It potential can be discerned by the very
insistence on the non transferability of the ownership rights of the property. Once a piece of
property is given for a charitable purpose, the owner ceases to have any claims over it, because
the property is said to belong to no one but Allah. This concept is great importance for the
development of the poorer section of society if such waqf properties would be managed to
generate inome for distribution or even for further accumulation of assets. Waqf itself also can be
regarded as an important economic activities whilst at the same time ensuring that the benefits will
accure to some specific sections of society.

keep it remaining in the same from while the original owner cannot consume it . In other word,

Keating And Roark Analysis
A creative man is not motivated by the desire to compete but by the desire to achieve. the quote

success. Keating s desires and choices had been devoured by jealousy and envy. Even his
decision to join Francon and Heyer was influenced by the jealousy towards Shlinker as the best
student of Stanton. His thoughts were governed by the pursuit of greatness in other eyes;
appreciation from alien lips. Thus, others gave him the sense of his value. On the contrary, Roark
was a man with a purpose, a self promoter, with the sole motive of his own individual happiness

Algeria to Turkey, originated from the Ottomans rule. Setting the Stage By 1300, the Byzantine

  • 2. Stoning Is A Form Of Execution As most people know, women have been victims of injustice for hundreds of years, but one form of torture stands out amongst them all in Pakistan. Stoning is a form of capital punishment where a group of people throw stones at a person until he or she dies, more often women than men. Because stoning is a lot slower than other forms of execution, it is considered a form of execution by torture. In other countries like Afghanistan and Iraq, stoninghas been declared illegal, but it is still being practice extra judicially. In modern times, allegations of stoning are politically sensitive, as in the case of Iran, which describes such allegations as political propaganda. Stoning still happens today. There are 15 countries in which stoning is either practiced or authorized by law, even if it has never been practiced. In Iran, Mauritania, Nigeria (in one third of the country s states), Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen, stoning is a legal punishment. However, out of these countries, only in Iran, Pakistan and Somalia have stoning s actually occurred and all instances in Pakistan have occurred outside the legal system. Stoning is used as a punishment for those who commit adultery. The husband has the honor to throw the first stone. Her children are also forced to participate. They are allowed to try and escape, but they are left at a disadvantage because they are buried to their chest, as opposed to men who are only buried ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Beauty Of Nature By Mary Shelley The beauty of nature is often overlooked and underappreciated in today s society. The neglect and lack of respect given to such a beautiful creation by members of society is widely reflected in Romantic poetry. The romantic era began in 1798, where writers such as William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge expressed their opinions and feelings towards nature. Overall such writers typically express a positive outlook on the natural world around them, however some stray the other way. Specifically Coleridge and Wordsworth began to express the feeling of disconnect towards nature. Both writers began to feel as though they could not understand nature and cannot connect with the beauty it gives off as expressed in poems such as Dejection , London 1802 , and Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey . Not only did some of these writers begin to feel a disconnect but a select few also begin to feel as though people are disrespecting the balance of nature and are trying to disrupt the balance and manipulate it. Writers such as Mary Shelley, author of the novel Frankenstein, expresses the concern of people taking the laws of nature and twisting them. Writers and people living during this time period not only express an appreciation for nature but also the truth about the human relationship with nature. The relationship between humans and nature is on of mistreatment. Overall the romantic period expresses a writers feeling towards nature and the environment around ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Influence Of Ancient Greek Culture Ancient Greece often feels familiar in a strange way. From the spoils of Achilles (hero in the poem The Iliad), to the Trojan War, from perfect measurements of the Parthenon to the amazing flawless sculptures, Greek culture has uniquely and indirectly shaped our world. Thankfully the large eye catching archaeological sites, impact of Hollywood and the literary sources, Greek art and culture is embedded in our consciousness, arising visions of erudite philosophers, epic battles and limbless nude sculptures that decorated the sparkling white temples. Distributed around the Mediterranean Sea, the ancient Greece was united by its culture and art. What further strengthened these bonds were the so called festivals and sanctuaries that embraced and encouraged competition and interaction. Although most of the understating of ancient Greece belongs to the Fifth Century BCE Athens classical art, it is of significance that we realize that Greece was vast and did not come ... • 6. Role Of Women In The American Revolution The American Revolution was a colonial revolt in which America fought for its independence from Britain. Several groups of people stepped up to contribute during the Revolution that deserve a great deal of recognition. Beginning with women, who in spite of their low position in society still served in a variety of ways. Women took on the roles of men when men were away at war. There were women who were bold enough to serve on the battlefield alongside men. They were determined to prove that they were just as capable of doing what men could do. African Americans, both free and enslaved, also served in the Continental Army. African Americans fought bravely and eagerly, as some even ended up becoming heroes. They were willing to be a helping hand and would even lie to be able to fight for America s independence as well as their own. Foreigners were another group who supported America by providing trainers and leaders. Foreigners also supported America financially to get the army the supplies it needed. Without the help or support of all these different groups of people, America may not have won its independence. Despite the low position women held in society, they participated in any way they could during the war. When their husbands were away fighting, they took over their husbands positions as weavers, carpenters, blacksmiths or shipbuilders. Others transformed their homes into hospitals for the wounded, as explained in Document 2. Document 2 also describes how hundreds of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Not the sweet, grandma type hug, but more of a strangling and choking squeeze. The actors next to me are suffering as well. I hope our stage makeup doesn t sweat off. I whisper to my neighbor Boy, it sure is hot today. The boy next to me has a bandana tied around his head hiding his short, wispy tan hair. When the show is over it my as well be a mop of sweat. A half hour, the sun ticking a wy like a clock in the sky.... Heh. That reminds me of the Tic Toc Croc. The actress who portrays this character wears a ginormous croc costume, which is most likely a million degrees. That does not dent her kindred spirit though. She always dab at the end of her song. Hey! It s our cue! taps my neighbor Jenny. I stand up and focus my senses under my eyepatch. Soon our song begins. • 10. Bebbington s Quadrilateral Definition It would be a misinterpretation of Bebbington s work to argue that he understood the evangelical movement to be detached from the historical contexts. He developed his quadrilateral by surveying a certain recognizable Christian faith group within the historical context of Modern Britain from the 1730s to the 1980s. However, his definition itself is ahistorical. In other words, the strict application of Bebbington s quadrilateral may result in the inclusion of the first century Christians, who had a very high view of the Scripture, actively preached the gospel in the public square, who cherished their own conversion moment as their core identity, and, most of all, who confessed Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Indeed, John Stott traces the origin... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cardiovascular Health And Endothelial Function According to Simmons and Brown (2013), the sedentary lifestyle is one of the 5 major risk factors for cardiovascular disease and causing over 3 million deaths each year in worldwide. In the past 10 decades, there are numerous scientific reports pointed out the relationships between cardiovascular health and physical activities. Based on the US Surgeon General s report on Physical Activity and Health (1997), evidence from this report shows that more active individual tends to develop less coronary heartdisease (CHD) than sedentary counterparts. • 14. Moral Relativism In High Schools Today s society places feelings above all else. Feelings trump logic, reason, and other basic principles that all great societies value. This shift in predilection towards feelings has caused society to begin making decisions based on feelings as opposed to logic. Moral relativism is the philosophy where things such as ethics, morals and positions of right and wrong are subject to one s own beliefs; this philosophy eliminates all objective truths. Slowly but surely, society is turning into a moral relativistic society where everyone is free to create their own truth based on how they feel. For example, an objective truth would be The killing of innocent life is wrong, but a moral relativist could just as easily say, I feel that killing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to combat this ever pervasive problem, it must be attacked at the roots. This could be achieved through the teaching of good philosophy. This solution is not as easy as it seems though. Creating an environment that fosters intellectual thought and philosophical discussion within the school system will undoubtedly help students question ideas that are currently left unquestioned. Making philosophy class mandatory in high schools will nurture thoughtful minds that can entertain an idea without accepting it. Possessing the ability to do this will benefit students far greater than a guitar class or most other electives for that matter. A philosophy class will teach students rudimentary principles taught by some of the greatest thinkers of all time Aristotle, Socrates, and Plato. These basic principles will uproot and contradict many things society values today, most of which will be moral relativism. The implementation of philosophy into high schools is a macro solution that is far above anything I can do in my life at the moment. Despite this fact, I can still have an effect on a micro level. By living out the good philosophy that should be taught in schools, I allow my peers and community to see the effect that this philosophy has. Having people lead by example and live out their philosophy is one of the easiest ways to change those around ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some of the reasons why it is important to reduce the time to market from a managerial view point are as follows: Avoiding contract creep Schedule slippages Budget Overrun (Riemer, Steinfield, Vogel, 2009) Collaboration among members within an organisation as well as people outside an organisation has proven to be beneficial in the productivity of an organisation. The resulting increase in productivity can be attributed to the increase in ideas and information being shared (Li et al., 2007; Reimer et al., 2009). In order to create a virtual environment where collaboration can take place, collaboration is done through some form of ICT (Li et al, 2007; Reimer et al, 2009). ICT based collaboration is known as eCollaboration (Reimer et al, 2009). 3. E COLLABORATION AND VIRTUAL TEAMS E Collaboration is a phenomena branching off from collaboration and entails software which is used for supporting collaboration processes in groups (Riemer, Steinfield, Vogel, 2009; Rosenzweig, 2009).E Collaboration came about as a means to break down the traditional and structural processes ... If Islam is likely to gain ground globally, he states that they must separate faith and state. Mr. Hamid then goes on to state that this is unlikely to happen, because Sharia (Islam canonical law) is tied so closely with the religion and state. The solution therefore, is stated that Islam should follow Western pattern and separate faith and government. A partial reason that we continue to see Islam struggling with separating their faith and government is, because some see Islam as a political ideology and think it never was a religion since they never separated from the government. Another is more simply because many Islamic states have tried numerous political ideologies, such as: communism, secularism, democracy, tyranny, monarchy, and so on. Keeping Islam s separation issues in mind, the first event to analyze is the Iranian Revolution, which led to the hostage crisis. The prompt was to make a simple war game on a grid. At the beginning, we just came up with some simple rule to begin the game because we knew that we will improve the rule after we played the game. One of the most important that I learned during I was working on this project is that playable games take time and testing. It is okay to start with a simple game idea, and we will improve on it later. Out first draft games were expected to suck, which is going to be a lot of error and unclear rule, and it also won t be able to play through the end. It helps that we did not put too much pressure on ourselves. The war game is a common structure with grid movement Mechanism on the board games. This led me to a thought that students do not want to drive themselves into clubbing without a solid interest and they ended up discouraging those who wants to be a part of clubbing to learn something new. The Olympic Olympics At The 1988 Seoul Olympics Essay The 100m final during the 1988 Seoul Olympics, went from being called the greatest race in history to the dirtiest race in history over a time period of 24 hours. Ben Johnson Bronze medalist at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, Gold Medal at the Rome World championships in 1987 and a former record holder for the 100m sprints and now a permanent dent in the history of Canadian and Olympic history after he tested positive for the anabolic steroid Stanozol, at the 1988 Seoul Olympic games. The event everyone had been waiting for at the Seoul Olympics was that of the 100 meter final where spectators and fans would be able to who the fastest man alive was. The Rivalry between Carl Lewis and Ben Johnson had been built up after many years of close competition most notably since the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics where Carl Lewis winning gold for America and Ben Johnson winning bronze for Canada. When Ben Johnson won the 100 meter final at the world championship in Rome he had beaten Carl Lewis five times before and gained a world record. This caused him to become very popular with the media and in Canada with people seeing him as a new hope for Canadian sports after their embarrassment at the Montreal Olympics in 1976 with Canada being the first country to hold the Games and not win a single gold medal. • 36. The Indigenous People Of Australia Ever since the colonization of Australia by the British Empire in the 18th Century, the indigenous people of Australia have been subject to social inequalities that have left their community ravaged. This treatment of the indigenous people was justified by the concept of Racial Othering, and it continues to perpetuate the unequal treatment of the indigenous people in Australia, to this day. One group of people are deemed the norm, and everyone else is designated as the Other, who are considered deviant (Fozdar, Wilding Hawkins 2009, pp. 4 5). In the case of the Indigenous people, Racial Othering was originally based on physical differences determined by genetics that differed from raceto race, but today it also takes into account the cultural differences of people (Wilding Hawkins 2009, p. 5). What exactly Racial Othering is, and just how it has contributed to the inequalities experienced by the indigenous people of Australia, and what those inequalities are, will be elaborated on below. To begin with, the concept of Racial Othering must be properly explained. It is an offshoot of Othering itself, which as explained by George Herbert Mead, is a process whereby people learn to become members of the society they belong to, by defining themselves by what they aren t, rather than what they are (Mead, 1934). Typically, those differ to the majority of people in society will be considered deviants, and the majority considered the normal. In this vein, Racial Othering is when ... I took advantage of the opportunities provided during my undergraduate career to appraise the present performance of the city against the conceived, modernist planning ideals. In an assignment for the urban design class, I investigated the image of the city as perceived by the largely illiterate rickshaw pullers, which navigate through it on a daily basis. It helped me to learn how the vocabulary of nodes and landmarks synonymous with traditional towns, still continues to be used by them. I illustrated this by drawing sector maps using Lynch s taxonomy of urban elements. For a national competition to design a people s mall, I looked into the supply chains and networks across the city, which transform sliver spaces within its formal fabric, appropriated by informal vendors and hawkers. Each sector, devised as homogeneous, self sufficient neighborhood units, now specializes in various resources leading to a differential development of the uniform grid layout. In my final thesis project, I researched on Chandigarh s gridlocked, urbanized villages which emerged as by products of the rational planning, juxtaposing contrasting forms of urbanism. A British filmmaker once dubbed them as subaltern subversions of the grid, whereas a nuanced investigation revealed how the existing form and pattern critiques the extended family neighborhoods of the pre existing agrarian settlement.
