European Immigrants In Wisconsin
In the early 19th century, Wisconsin was home to mainly Native Americans. After westward
expansion in the United States many Native Americans were forced to leave where they originally
inhabited. Thousands of Native Americans were moved to reservations in Wisconsin and in other
states. This new opening of land was perfect for new Western European immigrants who wanted a
brand new life in America. In the mid 19th century, Wisconsin s population increased from 11,000 to
over 300,000 (Nesbit, 1973). Hundreds of thousands of these immigrants were from Europe. Each
immigrant had their own reason of leaving their homeland but some of the main reasons for leaving
were: economic and social problems, natural disasters (potato famine in Ireland), religious freedom,
avoiding the draft, population booms, and industrialization. Once Germans decided to embark on a
journey to Wisconsin, they had to worry about the travel, geography of where to live, and the language
barrier between German and English and all problems in between. Travel To get to Wisconsin most
immigrants had to travel by boat through the Erie Canal and into the Great Lakes. From there, they
would arrive in the port of Milwaukee. Other immigrants traveled up through the Mississippi River
leading into Wisconsin. Non foreign immigrants often traveled by horse, railroad, steamboats, and
wagons. Milwaukee was the key city to migrate to as it had expanding business opportunities and lots
of public lands. This is

Birth Control History
This essay will examine the demand for and prevalence of contraceptives in the United States. The
history of birth control in the U.S. begins long before the infamous 1973 Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court
decision affirming the legality of abortion. Birth control has not always been accessible, safe or
reliable. Despite many myths, there are a multitude of reasons why a woman would choose to prevent
or end a pregnancy including not being able to support a child.
Before examining birth control, it s important to first dispel the myth that birth control and particularly
abortion is only sought by modern, unmarried women who are more promiscuous than women in
earlier ages. America was never abstinent. It s a myth that more teens and young adults have ... Show

Along with Katherine McCormick, the second female MIT graduate and a biologist, Sanger found
funding to support the pill s development. The pill s clinical trials were in Puerto Rico because with its
chronic overpopulation was far more accepting of birth control than the mainland U.S. The largely
poor women were not informed that they were taking part in an experiment. A fifth of the women in
the trial suffered side effects from nausea and headaches to high blood pressure and potentially deadly
blood clots. While Sanger s crusade to help impoverished women improve their self efficiency
through knowledge and access to safe birth control, the pill s trials shamefully did the exact opposite.
Today reliable and birth control is accessible to most Americans and 8 of 10 women have taken oral
contraceptives at some point in their lives. Birth control methods are still rapidly evolving. Even in
1960, nearly all birth control methods were conducted during intercourse such as condoms. Now,
pregnancy prevention is taken beforehand with oral contraceptives, IUDs, female sterilization, and
vasectomies. Starting in the twentieth century, Birth control has allows women to control the timing
and number of births, the pill made it easier for women to enter and remain in the paid

Analysis Of Zora Neale Hurston s Sweat
Sofia Kaiser
Ms. Menchoca
M W @ 12 Sweat by Zora Neale Hurston Marriage is a big idea that our nation takes remarkably for
granted. It is not something one can back out of easily. Once someone vows them self to one another,
there is no way back. In Zora Neale Hurston s short story Sweat she tells the story of Delia, a
washerwoman. Who marries a man named Sykes, In the first part, you can easily see that he mistreats
her. In the opening paragraph, he throws a snake like figure over Delia s shoulders. She scolds him
later for it. This image shown by Zora Neale Hurston is not coincidental. her husband Sykes is being
shown as a very commanding figure. Later on in the story. Her Husband begins to go out with other
women. He later tries to attempt to kill her. Only, In the hopes of marrying one of the mistresses he
has been seeing. As you continue on reading Sweat , Hurston starts making you look through a
feminist and historical lens. She Illustrates the idea of a society full of sexism. A society full of men
exploiting and breaking down women... until the men have gotten enough use out of them and they
move on.
Delia has had to make an enormous amount of sacrifices just to provide for Sykes and herself, due to
her poor financial situation. Sykes being the person who wore the pants in the home, never
acknowledges her work or appreciates it. Instead he torments her about working on a Sunday. The
Holy Day. He always expects her to treat him like the be all. Since

Black Arts Movement Essay
The Black Arts Movement
The amazing era of the Black Arts Movement developed the concept of an influential and artistic
blackness that created controversial but significant organizations such as the Black Panther Party. The
Black Arts Movement called for an explicit connection between art and politics (Smith). This
movement created the most prevalent era in black art history by taking stereotypes and racism and
turning it into artistic value.
This connection between black art and politics was first made clear in a great essay written by Larry
Neal in the summer of 1968. This essay illustrated the Black Arts Movement s manifesto or plan. Neal
wrote: The Black Arts Movement is radically opposed to any concept of the artist that ... Show more

As Black Power began to grow, it received both strong disapproval from whites and several African
American organizations such as the NAACP. They probably disapproved of them because Black
Power followers harshly bashed whites as well as a black community who watched and waited for
changed instead of making it. The Black Panther Party became the largest Black organization
advocating Black Power (Gladney). Scholars of African American art and politics still see the idea of
Black Power as a strong effect on the consciousness of Black America today, though it had died out in
mid 1970s (Smith). Black Power writers largely redefined and reshaped the expectations of Black
literature to their own standards much alike modern day rappers. The ability of a particular group of
artists to be able to define their own work is crucial to the development of an aesthetic (Gladney). One
of the most influential writers of this era was Amiri Baraka. Baraka s plays, poetry, essays,
screenplays, and short fiction express his fury at a narrow minded society encouraging racism.
Gladney describes that Baraka, also known as, LeRoi Jones was born in Newark, NJ, in 1934. He
attended Rutgers University and served in the military for three years before settling in Greenwich
Village at the heart of the creative scene. Baraka opened the Black Arts Repertory Theatre/School in

Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde
In this book, there exist a battle between good and evil in the main characters where we are bound to
ask ourselves what is superior between good and evil? Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are easily seen as an
allegory of the evil and good that exists in men. The book depicts the struggle with two sides of the
human personality. Since Mr. Hyde seems to be taking over Dr. Jekyll, one could claim that evil is
stronger than good. Nevertheless, Mr. Hyde ends up dead at the end of the story, which strongly shows
the weakness and the failure of evil, so we have to ask ourselves whether good can be separated from
evil. Great people are involved in bad things this is the fact of life, yet this does not make them evil
(Stevenson pp 28 75).
Using the central characters and the key theme of the duplicity of mankind Robert Louis Stevenson
strategically uncovers the broad theme of good and evil in the book. By the use of the character Dr.
Jekyll, the author is able to symbolize good . Mr. Utterson who is a lawyer based in London, also an
old friend of Dr. Jekyll, has the quality of being loyal to his friends and also concerned about Dr.
Jekyll. With this loyalty, he asks him about his pal Mr. Hyde whom he had left his luggage in his will
(Cresser N.P). You know I never approved of it, said the doctor. Mr. Utterson believes that the doctor
bed them by lies possession to a man whom he meet but rather than being annoyed. Dr. Jekyll he
shows concern like a true loyal friend would have, from Mr.

Southern Colonies Research Paper
One of the many beauties of the United States, is its vast history of diversity. Diversity is what built
the country. As the early settlers traveled to the New World and began to build colonies, three distinct
regions developed and took shape. The three regions were the New England/northern colonies, the
middle colonies, and the southern colonies. Each of these districts had differences in religion/culture,
government, and economy. These diverse traits built the core of each colony and directed the growth
of each and why they developed in the way they did. Religion and culture combined, create perhaps
the largest difference between the three regions. In the northern colonies, Puritanism was the
predominate influence, which brought strong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

fur, lumber and fish were all in demand in England, they became the primary focus of the settlers and

able to produce food in many forms to export throughout the world. Among the crops they grew,
wheat (milled into four), made up nearly three fourths of the goods exported. Obviously, the southern
colonies looked to their plantations to produce tobacco as their main source of income. Sadly, due to
the demand of workers, slaves began being imported into the middle and southern colonies. However,

Ideographs function to elicit emotion from the public through their association to common concepts
and their application to different societal issues. Words like freedom and democracy act as ideographs
in that they have certain connotations and that are then manipulated according to the cultural situation.
An ideograph as outlined by McGee has four critical characteristics: it is able to warrant power or
guide behavior; it is used in political discourse; it is an abstraction representing collective
commitment; and it is culture bound (205 209). Janis L. Edwards and Carol K. Winkler in their study
Representative Form and the Visual Ideograph: The Iwo Jima Image in Editorial Cartoons argue
against Michael McGee s belief that ideographs are limited to verbal language (198 212). They protest
that visual images can also be used as ideographs because they fulfill McGee s formulated features of
an ideograph and are not merely icons, which are visual representations of words that always
symbolize the same concept or idea. The utilization of Mount Rushmore in editorial cartoons
functions as an example of a visual ideograph as distinguished by Edwards and Winkler. Through an
analysis of editorial cartoons with the Mount Rushmore image, I will provide further evidence to
Edwards s and Winkler s claim that visual images can exist as ideographs by fulfilling the major
characteristics of an ideograph as defined by McGee.

The Role Of Gender Challenging Role Models
The use of gender challenging role models in the classroom is a method I am going to use during my
final professional practice and during my year as a Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT). I am going to use
these demonstrate to both girls and boys that the media depiction of success is not accurate and that
success can be measured in various ways. Role models such as Marie Curie, Dian Fossey and Mary
Anning are good historical figures to use but children could see these as dull despite their
achievements. Although I do consider the use of these women as role models important, I feel that a
role model who children can relate to and that they see in everyday life would be more successful in

The importance for teachers to be positive role models is set out by the government in the Teachers
Standards (Department for Education, 2011). I believe, as a male teacher, that there is an extra
responsibility for me to model gender neutrality. I believe it is important for the boys in my classroom
have both a positive masculine role model and a male figure in their life that is not afraid to embrace
so called feminine aspects of life. I would like the boys in my classroom to understand that there are
not boy jobs and girl jobs both in school and at home. I will model this by explaining my role at home;
doing the dishes, hoovering, ironing and being a family man; activities that some may see as not very
masculine. I will show that there is no such thing a girly colours by wearing a pink shirt from time to
time. Most importantly I would like to challenge boys perception that education is feminine. Although
research totally refutes the assumption that boys attainment improves when they are placed with a
male teacher (Drudy, 2008; Francis et al, 2008; Read, 2010), There seems to be a particular kudos that
some male teachers get from children. Whether this is due to their minority status in primary
education (National Union of Teachers, 2016) or due to masculinity being given a superior social
standing (Skelton, 2011a). Consequently, it important for male teachers to use this

Neck Pain Essay
Although external factors in life seem like a pain in the neck, physical neck pain is real and usually
caused by tension. However, if an injury has occurred, you need to see a medical professional as soon
as possible. For stress related pains, the usual treatments of OTC pain relievers and alternating
application of ice then heat are still considered acceptable treatments. The following are a few points
to consider in causes and home remedies for typical neck pain.
Technology Is The Enemy Of Good Posture
All circumstances considered most health related maladies are a direct result of poor posture, but the
good news is that most of the causes are not our fault but rather that of technology. Handheld mobile

Instead, look at it as doing something different that breaks the monotony of life and in the process,
your reward is an enjoyable experience. Start by taking a nice warm shower slightly hotter than skin
temperature and wash your hair. The arm motions cause the shoulder and neck muscles to move in
different directions and result in helping ease the tension in the neck.
Counter Pressure And Sensations
As an example, if the lower left hand part of your neck is painfully tensed up, prop your right elbow
so that you can lay your forehead on the heel of your hand. In this position, it sends signals to the
brain that the neck muscles no longer need to hold up your head. Now you can use the other hand to
massage the tense neck muscles to help them relax.
A similar effort of changing sensations often provides relief from tight neck muscles by placing an ice
pack on the opposite side of your head, preferably on the area of the sinus cavity. If it is cold enough,
the brain redirects its concern and abandons the pain of the neck muscle tension while this position
also combines the above counter pressure

Darwinists and Dissenters
Did God create the universe or did the universe create itself? Ever since Charles Darwin s On the
Origin of Species was first published in 1859, the debate between those that believe life was brought
into existence by supernatural means and those who believe in Darwin s theory of evolution has been
fierce. Each side presents compelling arguments that may sway any uneducated reader to agree with
their position based solely on the confidence they portray in their writings. However, because of the
vastness and strength of evidence presented by the proponents of modern evolutionary theory,
Darwinists have proved their point much greater than those who argue in favor of Intelligent Design.
In this essay, four arguments will be presented; two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In other words, the complexity of life and its organisms could not have arisen slowly over time
because if one part of a whole is not present then it cannot function, survive, and therefore possess the
ability to reproduce and evolve. Behe explains this theory using a mousetrap as an example. He writes
that if any one of the components of the mousetrap (the base, hammer, spring, catch, or holding bar) is
removed, then the trap does not function and that because the mousetrap is necessarily composed of
several parts, it is irreducibly complex... thus [proving] irreducibly complex systems exist (5).
Although Behe s theory seems reasonable, Jerry Coyne points out in his book, Why Evolution Is True,
that the... designs [observed] make sense only if they evolved from features of earlier ancestors and
that an Intelligent Designer would not have made it a motive to have organisms appear as though they
evolved (Coyne, 85). Coyne s critique of Behe s theory of irreducible complexity further solidifies the
Darwinists claim, especially in regard to his point that an Intelligent Designer

Steve Job Death
In 2005, Steve Jobs delivered an inspiring and thought provoking commencement speech to the
graduating class of Stanford University. His speech addressed the concept of death, and how people
should let the idea of death motivate them to take charge of their lives. Individuals only have one life,
and Jobs stated that one should be able to look in the mirror as if it were their last day and be proud of
what they have done. There is some merit to his conclusion, especially from a Christian view point.
Christians only have one life to live, and their actions and lives should be a testament to what God has
done in their lives. However, some of his remarks fall into the vein of a godlike mindset, where
individuals should live like it is their last day, regardless of what that may mean to each individual.
While for humans it is natural to think that they deserve to live their lives the way they desire,
humanity s true identity lies in being image bearers of God whether individuals realize that calling or
not. Death should motivate people to live a life they are proud of, but it should also drive individuals
to look toward the author of humanity and the purpose He has for each them. ... Show more content on

When Jobs says that even people who want to go to heaven do not want to die, he was completely
accurate. Christians should not fear death because of the promise of everlasting life God has given
through his son Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, people are still human, with emotions and thinking that
question and even dread death. God innately designed people to desire fulfillment, and to humanity,
death denies wholeness that people crave (Birch, 2017, p. 62). When individuals do not find their
calling or goal, it may feel like experience[ing] death already , walking aimlessly through life (p. 65).

How John Coltrane Influenced Jazz
The alto saxophonist, John Coltrane, was one of the most cultural ethical leaders of avant garde jazz,
in the 1960 s. He was an innovative composer and artist who pushed the boundaries of contemporary
jazz. Avant gardism liberated artists from the traditional form of jazz and pushed them to question and
change the whole idea of jazz itself. Coltrane was the type of musician who believed that he could
always be better than he already was. It was not unusual for someone to see him always practicing his
music, he would practice for hours and hours a day. Coltrane mastered a lot of the different styles of
jazz, because of this he went on to learn different types of music from different backgrounds so that he
could use it to improvise his music. From all the jazz artist we have learned this semester, so far,
Coltrane seems to be the one who had the greatest passion for jazz. For this, I admire his hard work
and passion he had for jazz. Even though he had already learned just about everything he could about
jazz, he still kept trying to learn new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Charlie Parker was a big inspiration to him, so much that Coltrane s sound of jazz was quite similar to
Parker s even though he did not play the same exact thing like other musician s would do with Parker
s music. Coltrane s music involved the use of scales, pedal points, multiphonics, free improvisation,
and shifting rhythms. He was obsessed with scales, he would practice them whenever he could. He
would also try to practice playing every note in every chord he could. In fact, Kind of Blue, is one of
his most influential pieces, it is considered a test pattern for music students attempting to master fast
moving harmonies. He was an inspiration to many upcoming jazz musicians, instead of sticking to the
classics, he tried to teach upcoming musicians to think outside the box and think of fresh ideas that

Integrity in Characters of Different Literary Works
Integrity
Integrity is the basing of one s actions on an internally consistent framework of principles. Meaning,
one who has integrity bases their actions on a moral code of honor, character, strength, and courage.
These principles guide a character s motive and cause, putting public image aside to lead a life
chivalry and conviction. One example this is Willie Bodega of Bodega Dreams by Ernesto Quiñonez.
Although Willie s means are shady, he strives for the betterment of Spanish Harlem through the
improvement of abandoned and damaged apartments. Next, there is John Proctor of The Crucible by
Arthur Miller. Proctor refuses to provide a false confession is a true religious and personal stand. By
refusing to give up his personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This action shows integrity because Willie took a complete outsider of his business, and guides him in
the way of running an empire. Next, there is John Proctor, an honorable man of the colony of Salem,
Massachusetts. Proctor becomes tied up with the literal and figurative witch hunt in Salem, his wife is
being accused by his secret lover Abigail Williams. The only way to have his wife escape a hanging is
to admit that had relations with Abigail to the court. His great pride and fear of public view forced him
to keep his adultery from the court. However, Proctor becomes more concerned with his individual
integrity than his public status. Proctor still wants to cleanse his name, but for religious and personal
reasons. Proctor s refusal to supply a false confession is a true personal and religious stand.
Confessing would dishonor his fellow prisoners, who are brave enough to hang at the gallows as
statement of truth. More importantly, a false admission would also dishonor him, tainting not just his
public standing, but also his soul and integrity. By refusing to forfeit his own integrity Proctor
implicitly proclaims his conviction that such integrity will bring him to heaven. He is martyred, being
redeemed for his earlier sins. Lastly, there is Holden Caulfield who epitomizes the complete opposite
of integrity. Holden glorifies his deceptions and lies he gets away with. He prides himself on how
people fall for his dishonesty. This in and of

The Arguments Of Donald Trump
Over the past year and a half, the NFL has received a lot of grief for what their players are doing
during the national anthem. Most recently things have really started to heat up when Donald Trump
got involved. He used profanity to describe the players that kneel and stated that any players that kneel
should be fired. There are a lot of people that have this same opinion, but since he is the President, it
gets made into a much bigger deal. He is supposed to be the leader of our Nation and it seems like
there are bigger issues in the world to worry about. People are furious with him saying this about the
NFL players and thinks he should stick to those other issues. He thinks these players are disrespecting
the flag and the great people that fought for our nation and wanted to state his opinion on it. Isn t it
their civil liberty to decide if they want to stand or not? Also, is this what Colin Kaepernick was going
for when he originally took his knee, or is his idea being lost in the mix? With the research that I have
done, I have a clearer perspective on Donald Trump s comments, Colin Kaepernick s purpose for
kneeling, and even my own opinion on this situation. August 14th, 2016, the San Francisco 49ers first

August 20th, he is sitting again while the anthem plays, nothing is said though, because he is injured.

Goals Of Diversity In The Workplace
Since the Civil Rights Act of 1964, it has been illegal to discriminate in regards to hiring, firing or
promotions based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin or disability (U.S. Equal Employment,
2016). Organizations have adhered to this federal regulation, some more than others, by incorporating
this law into their policies and procedures for personnel. Adhering to the law through the hiring
process and during orientation by informing them that these practices are prohibited in regards to their
performance and work. In all fairness, most organizations have done a good job in adhering to this
law. If not only because by not doing so would cause potential for serious lawsuits. However, many
organizations focus only on the numbers of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be measured through employment satisfaction surveys and analysis of human capital in

should be to ensure that the current workforce is a reflection of the community in which the
organization serves. This can be measured by ensuring that the organization has a solid affirmative
action and equal employment opportunity plan in place then by assessing the data collected through
hiring to the relevant data from the surrounding demographic of the area to ensure that the
organization compares favorably. The third goal should be to attract, develop and retain a diverse
workforce in an inclusive manner that values and respects differences. This can be measure over time
by analyzing the retention rates of each demographic group in your organization. Employment
satisfaction surveys will also measure the effectiveness of this goal on employee happiness and
whether they feel that their differences are appreciated in the organization. The last goal should be to
increase the diversity of the top management team and senior level management of the organization.
The can be measured effectively by evaluating the senior positions to ensure that there is an equal
representation of women and minorities in top level positions of the organization. This particular goal
is extremely important in ensuring that the organization values and continues diversity and inclusion

Advantages Of Digital Innovators
What makes Disruptors so Powerful
As mentioned earlier, the fewer entry barriers faced by digital disruptors give them a competitive
advantage. Earlier competitors of traditional incumbent firms found it difficult to enter markets on
account of inability to replicate distributional networks or access natural resources. The Baines limit
pricing of keeping the price equal to marginal cost also posed a limit to entry of firms. With onset of
digitalization, these challenges of entry barriers do not exist, as technology provides a cutting edge to
the disruptors. The digital innovators are able to achieve economies of scale at a faster pace. The
digital platforms once innovated, enables these disruptors to produce goods at almost zero marginal
cost. The marginal cost of another E book copy or another user page on a ... Show more content on

Just as one issue has been identified the next comes up; a market is finally defined just in time to
watch it morphing into something else. The main regulatory challenge is to provide a future proof
framework which maintains its relevance no matter how the market develops. Key words here are
technology neutrality and ex post rather than ex ante regulation. Competitive imbalances between
traditional providers and new market players must be evaluated and, as far as necessary and possible,
be reflected in new regulation. The governance problems raised by digital technologies threaten to
further erode state autonomy, as non state actors are empowered to resolve major societal disputes
(Rosenau and Singh, 2002). Alongside facilitating the development of the communications market to
the benefit of the country, the basic rights of individuals and society must also be protected by legal
and regulatory measures. And a last, but vital, aspect of regulation is that it should provide the market

The Emergence of a Young Girl into Womanhood
Across several different cultures, there are different ways in which people of a community recognize
the emergence of a young girl into womanhood. In the United States the most common is the famous
Sweet Sixteen which as in the name states: relates to being sixteen years old, getting a car, and having
some sort of celebration to commemorate the birthday. Among others include the Quinceanera which
is usually equated with Mexico and Bat Mitzvahs which is a Jewish girl s rite of passage. Another rite
of passage, called Kinaalda, is a puberty ceremony that holds the same importance and significance
among the Navajo tribe as their creation story. Unlike American society, during the people s lifetime
there is not a time between child and adult. In the Navajo culture it seems that it is more plausible to
say that the time between being a child and adult or as stated by Leighton and Kluckhohn (1947),
physical maturity and social maturity are more nearly coincidental. Meaning unlike the American
culture where the gap between childhood and adulthood is filled with an adolescence, and in the
Navajo tribe this gap is not prolonged and instead this transition is commemorated by a four night
ceremony. This process begins at the Navajo girl s first menstruation and is a way to announce to the
whole community that she has become a woman. In earlier marriage customs, a year or so after the
ceremony the girl would be considered ready for marriage; as a result, some felt that a girl s

Perhaps the most pronounced question in the play Antigone by Sophocles is the value of human law
vs. divine law. In this tragic play a newly appointed king Creon declares to his people that treason was
committed during battle, and one of the two brothers (Polyneices) killed shall not be buried according
to the Gods, but instead He shall be left unburied for all to watch the corpse mutilated and eaten by

Antigone answers no to all that she finds to be vile, I have longer to please the dead than please the
living here: in the kingdom down below I ll lie forever (Sophocles, 1900. Lines 88 90). These lines
show how much personal power she possesses compared to King Creon. Antigone remains consistent,
even contentious in her disobedience. By offending the king, it is as if Antigone is leaving him no
choice and his prideful ways force him to sustain her sentence. After Creon realizes that fulfilling his
order may be a mistake , he also knows that he cannot retract the ordering of her death. He had
surrendered his actions to the power of the state, and thus rendering himself to a loathsome state.
Unlike Antigone, who finds free will and faith in the laws of the god s. Playwrights such as Sophocles
attempt to understand the meaning of human suffering and reexamine the many traditions and ideals
from the past. Greek mythology questions the public and private responsibilities of individuals. As in
any circumstance fighting against what is valued as right can become a conflicting power. Antigone s
decision to go through this treacherous act alone enabled her to find peace within the divine laws of
nature during her time. The act of surrendering to a fate that was unjust prepared her for the desire she
clung to despite its unbalanced position. Antigone s fatal removal from the

Kinsey s View Of Eugenics
In the article, author Vern L. Bullough provided an in depth look at the research done by sexologist
Alfred Kinsey and explaining the contributions he made in the field. The article claimed how Kinsey
studied taboo topics and interviewed his students about their lives, a practice never conceived of being
done before. The author explained how Kinsley s controversial work was challenged by Thurman
Rice, a, bacteriology professor who had written extensively on sex, primarily from the view of
eugenics (Bullough 56). These claims were meant to display how society viewed sex as a topic that
was not an area of interest for many, but the research done by Kinsley helped push the boundary on
the topic and inspire other sexologists to pursue the field. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Statement Of Purpose For Biotechnology
During my childhood, I lived in village where more or less every people depend on agriculture for
their livelihood. I saw how hardship people going through during plowing field, sowing seeds hoping
the blessing of harvest. Hence, they did not produce expected amount of crop because of few
drawbacks likes low productive varieties, water crisis and so on. Even sometimes crops are
completely destroyed by sudden drought, over rain or outbreak of viral disease.. Suffering from
frequent disaster, my family moved into city finding new way of livelihood. Then I thought if it
possible to develop plant required less water, could fight against pest and might grow without
plowing. Later, I was taught biology in school and learnt how living system works and was fascinated
through the process by which we could manipulate plant life to use in human welfare. Thus, I realized
it is possible to minimize the sufferings of farmer of my community by developing noble varieties
which could resist against the drought, disease or other stresses caused by natural calamities. This urge

A Study On The Luxury Hotel Industry
CHAPTER 4. RESEARCH
Overview
This chapter will discuss the methodology used to enhance the study, and justifies it as a fitting
process for the subject of the paper. This chapter opens explaining qualitative methodology and why it
is the chosen method for the study. Then, after, it details the process of data collection.
Qualitative Methodology
The research question of this study concerns how the luxury hotel industry can adapt to Chinese
conceptualizations and consumer behavior. As the study focuses on culture and values, and how they
are represented in Chinese actions and expectations, qualitative methods were determined to be the
best process to understand the issue. We find cultural studies are thoroughly grounded in qualitative
research due to its roots in disciplines such as anthropology. [Atkinson 2005]
Qualitative research is defined as a study that uses nonnumeric data in the form of words (Schwandt,
2001), and provides an interpretive view that in comparison to quantitative research provides different
strategies of inquiry through techniques such as interviews, focus groups, and ethnography.
Qualitative methods allow the researcher to study individuals, consider and discover processes, as well
as learn about the general culture sharing behavior of the subjects or individuals studied (Creswell
2009)
As the study focused on the impact culture has on consumer behavior, the method of qualitative
research chosen were interview styled questions. This is the best

The Environment And The Global Economy
Environmental Stewardship Our modern world is largely dependant on two, well entangled things: the
environment and the global economy. Without the environment, mankind would fall apart. Our
atmosphere would quickly cease to support human life. The ozone layer would deplete, flooding the
earth with greater amounts of radiation. Biodiversity would damage water sources and destabilize the
climate. Additionally, the global economy facilitates the trade of goods and materials which satisfy the
demands of over seven billion people. These products are produced all around the world, by thousands
of different companies. They provide all the equipment for emergency services, the technology for
education and the food for our diet. Interruptions in the global supply chain often result in protests,
resource shortages, along with economic impacts. Sometimes companies make poor decisions, often
to reduce expenditures or by negligence, to make money at the expense of the environment. These
companies are held accountable for their actions and are fined if they are found guilty of violating
environmental laws. Unfortunately, it is rather common for companies to disregard environmental
concerns for their personal benefit. This situation causes governments to intervene and serve large
fines or criminal charges to the perpetrators, holding them responsible for their actions, or lack there
of. This essay will go over three cases which highlight the practice of monetary and/or criminal

The Theme Of Balance In Ursula Leguin s A Wizard Of Earthsea
The balance of light and dark has been off kilter forever and the balance has never been obtained! In
the fantasy novel A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula LeGuin, the battle of light and dark has subsided,
balance has been restored, and shows the journey of discovering one s identity. At the end of the
novel, when the shadow and Ged conjoin it can be seen as the realization of one s identity, as well the
discovering of balance. LeGuin uses symbols in the novel to convey what is happening on a deeper
level. At the beginning of the end, the sea turned into sand as Ged approached his shadow, which can
be seen as a balance, when two opposites, such as sea and sand, become one. It shows when two
opposites find a middle point and are at peace as opposed to constantly battering against one another.

Light and dark have been unbalanced, waging on since the beginning of time, until they find a balance
where each has met its match. When Ged, with his flaming white staff merges with the pitch black
shadow, and emerging as one may be seen as if they have made peace at a set point and created
equilibrium, as previously discussed by Yarrow and Ged. When this occurs, Ged finally becomes a
whole self by recognizing who he is, and his balance of positive and negative decisions .Also, in the
interaction between Ged and the shadow on the yin and yang island, Ged spoke his own name and
embraced the shadow. Ying and Yang are seen as a duality forming a whole so when Ged and the
shadow unite, it can symbolize discovering his whole identity. Since often times darkness represents
evil, it can be seen as when Ged embraced the shadow, he is accepting his past decisions and dark side
that can overcome him at any time. It is a part of growing up and finding who you really are, to realize
your past faults, and accept what you did and move

Analysis Of Last Hope For Peace At Brooklyn s Big Party
In the article Last Hope for Peace at Brooklyn s Big Party written by the Editorial Board of The New
York Times, the main focus is whether or not Brooklyn s city officials can run the annual celebration
of Caribbean Culture named, J ouvert, without a casualty. The writer uses a few techniques to get their
argument across such techniques consist of title, imagery, and more. The writer is not one person but,
it is rather The Editorial Board at the New York Times. The writer s argument works effectively by
providing evidence from previous celebrations of J ouvert, fatal altercations during the event are
bound to occur no matter what precautions officials make to prevent them.
The first technique the author uses to support his argument is the title. The title of the article is Last
Hope for Peace at Brooklyn s Big Party. By using this title, the author draws readers in by making
them feel as if the topic is of high importance. The author accomplishes this by his word choice and is
localizing the article to an area such as Brooklyn. By doing so, the author draws people s attention in
because Brooklyn is a very renowned area. He also shows his standpoint on the issue by using the
words Last Hope , which is a very negative way of looking at an issue and shows the author has an
opposing un optimistic view/standpoint. By using the words Last Hope , the author is able to convey a

The Problem Of Homeless Children
When considerable people think about what kind of individuals are homeless, they often conceive of a
shabbily dressed, elder male sitting in the front of a random doorway, with a wine bottle in a brown
paper bag. However, homelessness for the past years has begun to be more visible. Homeless children
are portrayed in welfare and academic literature as a category of children at risk. Whatever transpires
in early childhood can affect a child s lifestyle. In young children, the results are harsh. Stress can
result from major trauma, which can weaken the developing brain and lead to lifelong problems.
Homelessness is becoming exceeding worldwide affecting countries with no regard to economical
superiority. Children befall on the affected by: substance abuse at home, mental health, lack of literacy
skills and schooling. Homeless children are not only affecting themselves as individuals however, also
affecting society as a whole. Children are deprived of basic necessities of life, education, and health.
Children end up on the streets for numerous reasons, which are rooted within the family s instabilities
and poverty. Living life on the streets has proven to be treacherous for children that don t have place
they can home . Furthermore, homelessness inhibits physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and

In March 2008 and April 2012, the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) released robust television
advertisements which investigated the welfare of motorcyclists on Australian roads. The directors of
these advertisements are stressing for motorcyclists to ride at the appropriate speed limit in order to
decrease the risks of a collision and to be aware of their vulnerability and the risks they face every
time they ride on the road. The directors also express the concern at the fact that some riders aren t

permitted to obey the speed limit. TAC also make it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This numerical data shows that 17% of the road toll in 2013 were caused by motorcycle collisions. As
promoted in the television advertisements, motorcycles are urged to decrease their speed. In 2013,
43% of motorcycle deaths occurred due to the driver exceeding the legal speed limit. Motorcyclists
are encouraged to reduce their travel speed by 5km per hour in order to reduce road trauma. Speeding
over a minor amount of speed of 5km per hour, can still determine the difference between a close call
and a serious accident.
These advertisement adopt a cautious and fearful tone when outlining the welfare of motorcyclists on
our roads. The aim of the advertisement is to increase the welfare of motorcyclists. The strong opinion
enforced by the directors, convinces a broad number of Australian motorcyclists that lowering their
travel speed can be the difference between life and death. Motorcyclists become aware of the fact that
obeying the legal speed limit is absolutely essential for their own welfare. In the advertisement The
Ride , riders aren t wearing the appropriate clothing needed when operating a motorcycle. Motorcycle
clothing manufactures will want to act immediately and decisively in order to advertise their products
to encourage those customers to purchase appropriate protective gear. The demand for motorcycle
clothing is a benefit for those manufactures as sales for protective gear are likely to increase.

An Essay on Social Contract Theory
SOCIAL CONTRACT THEORY Social contract theory (or contractarianism) is a concept used in
philosophy, political science and sociology to denote an implicit agreement within a state regarding
the rights and responsibilities of the state and its citizens, or more generally a similar concord between
a group and its members, or between individuals. All members within a society are assumed to agree
to the terms of the social contract by their choice to stay within the society without violating the
contract; such violation would signify a problematic attempt to return to the state of nature. It has been
often noted, indeed, that social contract theories relied on a specific anthropological conception of
man as either good or evil . Thomas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jean Jacques Rousseau Du Contrat social (1762) Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712 1778), in his influential
1762 treatise The Social Contract, Or Principles of Political Right, outlined a different version of
contract theory, based on the conception of popular sovereignty, defined as indivisible and inalienable
this last trait explaining Rousseau s aversion for representative democracy and his advocacy of direct
democracy. Rousseau s theory has many similarities with the individualist Lockean liberal tradition,
but also departs from it on many significant points. For example, his theory of popular sovereignty
includes a conception of a general will , which is more than the simple sum of individual wills: it is
thus collectivist or holistic, rather than individualist. As an individual, Rousseau argues, the subject
can be egoist and decide that his personal interest should override the collective interest. However, as
part of a collective body, the individual subject puts aside his egoism to create a general will , which is
popular sovereignty itself. Popular sovereignty thus decides only what is good for society as a whole:
The heart of the idea of the social contract may be stated simply: Each of us places his person and
authority under the supreme direction of the general will, and the group receives each individual as an
indivisible part of the whole... Hence, Rousseau s famous sentence: We shall force them

For the openness and honesty about my initial intent and exception as well as my doubts and
uncertainty or lack of knowledge or inadequate preparation. With respect to barriers, students should

Internal:
Negative: It was the first time to analysis a annual report of a company, a annual report have over one

External:
Negative: I have to take the responsibility of the living expenses including the tuition fee, so that I

Book Report On The Japanese Tales
In the Japanese Tales, translated by Royall Tyler, the observation that snakes function as agents of
karma is valid. In order to teach this Buddhist theme, snakes can be portrayed with a broad range of
abilities and personalities to maintain a system of cosmic justice. Consequently, the imagery of snakes
is seen as complex and paradoxical from tale to tale through their ways of delivering justices.
However, snakes are not only agents of karma, but can also be agents to teach the consequence of
sexual desires. This essay will show the complex characterization of snakes in order to express the
consequences for certain behaviors such as dishonesty, lack of devotion to Buddhism, and lust.
While snakes are seen as agents of karma in Red Heat, they are also portrayed as a creature with
strong vengeful and evil personality toward those who express dishonesty and lack of devotion to
Buddhist vows. As illustrated in Red Heat, a pair of monks sets themselves up for karmic
repercussions by accepting hospitality from a lustful widow. This gives a chance for the widow to
target one of the monks to be her sexual partner, which placed the monk in a situation to commit more
misdeeds. The monks behavior demonstrates a lack of devotion to protecting their vow to remain in
chaste, which was to stay away from sexual interactions with women (Tyler 160). When the sexual
pursuit occurred, the monk told the widow, If I suddenly break my vow, we ll suffer (Tyler 160).

on how to do it, however most state Constitutions all have a typical defect: they attempt to address an
excessive number of themes and give an excessive number of orders to what to do and how to do it,
much of the time with intense detail. Two ways in which the Constitution of Texas is different from
the U.S., are that the U.S. Constitution has not been rewritten and the Texas Constitution has been
rewritten several times. Also, the U.S. Constitution has strong separation of powers and strong
legislative, Executive, Judicial branches, and the Texas Constitution has weak separation of powers of
plural executive (the division of the governor s power among several other elected officials) limits

The Xbox 360 And Wii
Video games have been around for many years and have slowly developed into a common hobby for
many young adults. In fact, more than 1.2 billion people are playing video games worldwide. The
original gaming console by Magnavox has evolved tremendously over the last decade and has been
developed by many different companies. Although there is an innumerable amount of consoles in the
world, two iconic consoles are the Microsoft s XBOX 360 and the Nintendo s Wii. The XBOX 360
and Wii are two very popular gaming consoles that are different in appearance, the applications and
services they provide, and the amount of games and accessories they each have available. When
compared to each other, the XBOX 360 and Wii have multiple differences when it comes to the way
each console looks. The Nintendo Wii is a very small and compact device. The console developers
managed to keep the Wii as small as possible by incorporating only one Universal Serial Bus also
known as a USB port. The Wii console is available in a variety of colors, but the most common and
standard color is white. Compared to the small size and compact aspects of the Wii, the XBOX 360 is
extremely different. The XBOX is close in size to a toaster oven and can be purchased in black and
white. Unlike the Wii, the XBOX has multiple USB ports. When designing the XBOX 360, Microsoft
kept the gamer in mind and tried to provide them with an easy and resourceful device. The overall
appearance of both consoles varies and depending

The Missouri Compromise Of 1820
The Missouri Compromise of 1820 was an attempt by Congress to defuse the sectional and political
rivalries triggered by the request of Missouri late in 1819 for admission as a land in which slavery
would be allowed. At the time, the United States contained twenty two states, evenly divided between
slave states and free states. (Missouri Compromise , 2016) The Compromise of 1850 was laws
admitting California as a free state, creating Utah and New Mexico territories with the question of
slavery in each to be determined by popular sovereignty, settling a Texas New Mexico boundary
dispute in the former s favor, ending the slave trade in Washington, D.C. and making it easier for
southerners to recover fugitive slaves. (Compromise of 1850, 2016) The Compromise of 1850 and the
Missouri Compromise of 1820 had many similarities. Both attempted to balance the slave nations,
added states into the Union, encouraged Sectionalism in the North and South, and they influenced the
Civil War. Each sectional would affect the balance of power between the North and South greatly.
Both the Compromise of 1850 and the Missouri Compromise of 1820 had many similarities, although
alike in many ways one major conflict would be the path they each would bear upon the balance of
force between the Northern States and Southern States.
Both the Missouri Compromise of 1820 and the Compromise of 1850 would each try to balance the
slave states and free states. In 1819, when Missouri requested admission to the

William Shakespeare Controversy
Up until a decade ago, there was no questioning the famous playwright William Shakespeare s
authorship. Now, theorists use the lack of documents on Shakespeare s life and doubt about how a
commoner like Shakespeare could have written his famous plays to argue against Shakespeare s
authorship. While arguments for other candidates may be compelling, no concrete proof exists for any
one candidate that provides a clearer picture of a literary genius than Shakespeare himself. Those who
support Shakespeare as the best candidate and true author emphasize the fact that the body of evidence
that does exist points to Shakespeare, and no one else, as the author of his works (Pruitt). The
established documented facts: Shakespeare s education, the appearance of his name on not only his
published plays, but around eighty other writer s works as a form of tribute or homage in an era where
providing the author s name was not customary, his familiarity with acting, setting the stage, and
orchestration of the action, and his life events which are reflected in the mood of his writing give
William Shakespeare holds the strongest claim to the works that bear his name.
From the historical evidence available on William Shakespeare s life, it is known that he was born in
April 1564, the oldest son of John Shakespeare. John Shakespeare was ambitious, and he filled many
municipal offices in Stratford including that of burgess, which privileged him to educate his children
without charge at the

Social Amibition is the Stepping Stone to Humilliation in...
In William Shakespeare s romantic comedy of Twelfth Night, Malvolio s, Sebastian s and Sir Andrew
s greed for power and status, mirror the theme that being socially ambitious makes people an easy
target for mockery and embarrassment. In the play, Malvolio desperately tries to win Olivia s heart,
falling under Maria s trap. Sebastian proves his shallow and ambiguous self when he agrees to wed a
complete stranger for wealth, and Sir Andrew vainly tries to prove his worth and nobleness to his
fellow upper classmen, turning himself into a laughing stock. These three characters foolish actions
create humor in the play as well as preach us that social ambition is the stepping stone for humiliation.
Malvolio, head steward of Olivia s household is an arrogant and proud man, who evokes distaste but
also pity from the audience. Maria and company craft a masterful trap into which Malvolio walks right
into; they trick him into believing that the lady Olivia loves him and wishes him to prove his love for
her through a series of actions. Not only does he not doubt this for a second, but he eagerly agrees to
fulfill all of the embarrassing things he has been set up to do: I do not now fool/ myself, to let my
imagination jade me; for every reason/ excites to this, that my lady loves me [5.2.153 155]. Malvolio s
declaration confirms that he is completely blinded by the thought of him being a count and imagining
himself bossing servants around and being showered with wealth that he

The Ontological Argument By Anselm
I will begin my paper by discussing the two major versions of the ontological argument by Anselm
presented in the proslogion. The first being Possible and actual existence , and the second being
Contingent or Necessary . One should start off with the first summarized in the standard form as
follows: #1 It is a conceptual truth that God is a being than which none greater can be imagined. #2
God exists as an idea in the mind. #3 A being that exists as an idea in the mind and in reality is, other
things being equal, greater than a being that exists only as an idea in the mind. #4 Thus, if God exists
only as an idea in the mind, then we can imagine something that is greater than God. #5 But we cannot
imagine something that is greater than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
[Ia] Unfortunately to properly render a complete discussion of the ontological argument One must
begin by defining a few keywords. Definitions for P2 are as follows. first, conceptual truth: something
that can be understood or perceived by the use of reason or imagination. Second, a being: one s basic
nature, or the qualities thereof; essence or personality[3]. Third, greater: of ability, quality, or
eminence considerably above the normal or average [4]. Forth, imagined: form a mental image or
concept of [4]. Fifth, Idea: a thought or suggestion as to a possible course of action [4]. Sixth, mind:
the element of a person that enables them to be aware of the world and their experiences, to think, and
to feel; the faculty of consciousness and thought [4]. Definitions for P3 are as follows. Seventh, actual:
existing in fact; typically as contrasted with what was intended, expected, or believed [4]. Eighth,
existence: the fact or state of living or having objective reality. Ninth, contingent: occurring or existing
only if certain other circumstances are the case; dependent on [4]. Tenth, necessary: present; needed;
essential [4]. Due to the nature of definitions, I will not give an argument for the lack of implied
meanings.
[IIa] For P2 axioms #1 and #3 appears that using a loose form of relativism the argument holds.
For axiom #2 its entirety is an assumption that is to be disproved. Axioms #4 6 are logical deductions
from Axioms #1 through #3. For P3

The Effects Of Obesity On Today s Youth
In the past couple of years there has been an uproar about American health. People are starting to take
notice of the fact that American citizens are getting fatter and fatter every day. Recently, there have
been many documentaries about obesity in today s youth. Over the past three decades, childhood
obesity rates in America have tripled, and today, nearly one in three children in America are
overweight or obese. The numbers are even higher in African American and Hispanic communities,
where nearly 40% of the children are overweight or obese. If we don t solve this problem, one third of
all children born in 2000 or later will suffer from diabetes at some point in their lives. Many others
will face chronic obesity related health problems like heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, and
asthma. Children are gaining more weight and everyone thinks it is because of technology and the lack
of outdoor play. That could be the reason, but it can also be something entirely different. America is
known for their big meals and fattening fast food. There are fast food restaurants around every corner
and it is cheap so this also contributes to the obesity rate rising. Americans are known to other
countries as the fat ones . They stereotype Americans as these fat and lazy people who only think
about themselves. America is the second country with the most obese people, following closely behind
Mexico. Obesity is at its all time high and the government is slowly taking

My Goals And Strengths And Weaknesses
Brooke Point High School has been my second home for the past three years and a half. There, I have
completed three Honors English classes, and I m currently in a Dual Enrollment course. In those three
years and a half, I have witnessed my writing skills develop and improve remarkably over time, as
well as my academic growth as a writer. Like every other writer, I have both strengths and
weaknesses. I rarely experience difficulty when it comes to grammar, putting my thoughts onto paper,
and researching. However, deciding what to write about and writing analytical papers are some of my
weaknesses I have yet to overcome. Throughout my years in school, I have managed to figure out my
strengths and weaknesses, and continue to work to improve both. Since starting high school, I have
found myself having less trouble with grammar, organizing my thoughts onto paper, finishing the
papers assigned to me on time, and researching. Although I once struggled greatly with grammar, I
don t see it as a problem anymore. The more I proofread and review the papers I write, the less
grammatical errors I find. Despite it taking me a while to figure out how and what I want write about
for certain papers and topics, I have always found it easy to put my thoughts onto paper. Once I know
what I want to write about, the thoughts come pouring in and I find myself writing abundantly. Even
though it takes me some time to figure it out at first, I still manage to turn in my papers on time.

The Similarities of Writting Style in Walt Whitman’s “Song...
Throughout time there have been many writers and poets. And with these many writers and poets their
work has been different in what they write about. And their work has made an impact on society and
on others. And yet in this time some writers have influenced the work of others. Walt Whitman and
Allen Ginsberg who are separated by a time gap have a kind of connection. Both of these amazing
writers wrote pieces of work that are considered a catalyst for the Beat Generation. These two
courageous writers went against the norm and wrote about something different. Although they are
different they both explored new topics. Walt Whitman s Song of Myself and Allen Ginsberg s Howl
have similarities right from the first page. The first thing that they both have in common is the
structure of their work. Both Howl and Song of Myself have long lines and they keep like that. Having
these long lines makes the story flow. Doing this in these two works made it have some kind of steady
rhythm so it was easy to read. Also another similarity Whitman had on Ginsberg was at the beginning
of each sentence. In Howl the beginning would always start with who . In Song of Myself the first
word of the line is Nor. This would be happening quite often. Ginsberg and Whitman both wrote about
topics against what other writers would talk about. Whitman would write about sexuality/the human
body and it scared off some of his readers. For example in Song of Myself on page 28 29:

  • 2. European Immigrants In Wisconsin In the early 19th century, Wisconsin was home to mainly Native Americans. After westward expansion in the United States many Native Americans were forced to leave where they originally inhabited. Thousands of Native Americans were moved to reservations in Wisconsin and in other states. This new opening of land was perfect for new Western European immigrants who wanted a brand new life in America. In the mid 19th century, Wisconsin s population increased from 11,000 to over 300,000 (Nesbit, 1973). Hundreds of thousands of these immigrants were from Europe. Each immigrant had their own reason of leaving their homeland but some of the main reasons for leaving were: economic and social problems, natural disasters (potato famine in Ireland), religious freedom, avoiding the draft, population booms, and industrialization. Once Germans decided to embark on a journey to Wisconsin, they had to worry about the travel, geography of where to live, and the language barrier between German and English and all problems in between. Travel To get to Wisconsin most immigrants had to travel by boat through the Erie Canal and into the Great Lakes. From there, they would arrive in the port of Milwaukee. Other immigrants traveled up through the Mississippi River leading into Wisconsin. Non foreign immigrants often traveled by horse, railroad, steamboats, and wagons. Milwaukee was the key city to migrate to as it had expanding business opportunities and lots of public lands. This is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Birth Control History This essay will examine the demand for and prevalence of contraceptives in the United States. The history of birth control in the U.S. begins long before the infamous 1973 Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision affirming the legality of abortion. Birth control has not always been accessible, safe or reliable. Despite many myths, there are a multitude of reasons why a woman would choose to prevent or end a pregnancy including not being able to support a child. Before examining birth control, it s important to first dispel the myth that birth control and particularly abortion is only sought by modern, unmarried women who are more promiscuous than women in earlier ages. America was never abstinent. It s a myth that more teens and young adults have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along with Katherine McCormick, the second female MIT graduate and a biologist, Sanger found funding to support the pill s development. The pill s clinical trials were in Puerto Rico because with its chronic overpopulation was far more accepting of birth control than the mainland U.S. The largely poor women were not informed that they were taking part in an experiment. A fifth of the women in the trial suffered side effects from nausea and headaches to high blood pressure and potentially deadly blood clots. While Sanger s crusade to help impoverished women improve their self efficiency through knowledge and access to safe birth control, the pill s trials shamefully did the exact opposite. Today reliable and birth control is accessible to most Americans and 8 of 10 women have taken oral contraceptives at some point in their lives. Birth control methods are still rapidly evolving. Even in 1960, nearly all birth control methods were conducted during intercourse such as condoms. Now, pregnancy prevention is taken beforehand with oral contraceptives, IUDs, female sterilization, and vasectomies. It is not something one can back out of easily. Once someone vows them self to one another, there is no way back. In Zora Neale Hurston s short story Sweat she tells the story of Delia, a washerwoman. Who marries a man named Sykes, In the first part, you can easily see that he mistreats her. In the opening paragraph, he throws a snake like figure over Delia s shoulders. She scolds him later for it. This image shown by Zora Neale Hurston is not coincidental. her husband Sykes is being shown as a very commanding figure. Later on in the story. Her Husband begins to go out with other women. He later tries to attempt to kill her. Only, In the hopes of marrying one of the mistresses he has been seeing. As you continue on reading Sweat , Hurston starts making you look through a feminist and historical lens. She Illustrates the idea of a society full of sexism. A society full of men exploiting and breaking down women... until the men have gotten enough use out of them and they move on. Delia has had to make an enormous amount of sacrifices just to provide for Sykes and herself, due to her poor financial situation. Black Arts Movement Essay The Black Arts Movement The amazing era of the Black Arts Movement developed the concept of an influential and artistic blackness that created controversial but significant organizations such as the Black Panther Party. The Black Arts Movement called for an explicit connection between art and politics (Smith). This movement created the most prevalent era in black art history by taking stereotypes and racism and turning it into artistic value. This connection between black art and politics was first made clear in a great essay written by Larry Neal in the summer of 1968. This essay illustrated the Black Arts Movement s manifesto or plan. As Black Power began to grow, it received both strong disapproval from whites and several African American organizations such as the NAACP. They probably disapproved of them because Black Power followers harshly bashed whites as well as a black community who watched and waited for changed instead of making it. The Black Panther Party became the largest Black organization advocating Black Power (Gladney). Scholars of African American art and politics still see the idea of Black Power as a strong effect on the consciousness of Black America today, though it had died out in mid 1970s (Smith). Black Power writers largely redefined and reshaped the expectations of Black literature to their own standards much alike modern day rappers. The ability of a particular group of artists to be able to define their own work is crucial to the development of an aesthetic (Gladney). One of the most influential writers of this era was Amiri Baraka. Baraka s plays, poetry, essays, screenplays, and short fiction express his fury at a narrow minded society encouraging racism. Gladney describes that Baraka, also known as, LeRoi Jones was born in Newark, NJ, in 1934. • 8. Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde In this book, there exist a battle between good and evil in the main characters where we are bound to ask ourselves what is superior between good and evil? Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are easily seen as an allegory of the evil and good that exists in men. The book depicts the struggle with two sides of the human personality. Since Mr. Hyde seems to be taking over Dr. Jekyll, one could claim that evil is stronger than good. Nevertheless, Mr. Hyde ends up dead at the end of the story, which strongly shows the weakness and the failure of evil, so we have to ask ourselves whether good can be separated from evil. Great people are involved in bad things this is the fact of life, yet this does not make them evil (Stevenson pp 28 75). Using the central characters and the key theme of the duplicity of mankind Robert Louis Stevenson strategically uncovers the broad theme of good and evil in the book. By the use of the character Dr. Jekyll, the author is able to symbolize good . Mr. Utterson who is a lawyer based in London, also an old friend of Dr. Jekyll, has the quality of being loyal to his friends and also concerned about Dr. Jekyll. With this loyalty, he asks him about his pal Mr. Hyde whom he had left his luggage in his will (Cresser N.P). You know I never approved of it, said the doctor. These diverse traits built the core of each colony and directed the growth of each and why they developed in the way they did. Ideographs function to elicit emotion from the public through their association to common concepts and their application to different societal issues. Words like freedom and democracy act as ideographs in that they have certain connotations and that are then manipulated according to the cultural situation. An ideograph as outlined by McGee has four critical characteristics: it is able to warrant power or guide behavior; it is used in political discourse; it is an abstraction representing collective commitment; and it is culture bound (205 209). Janis L. Edwards and Carol K. Winkler in their study Representative Form and the Visual Ideograph: The Iwo Jima Image in Editorial Cartoons argue against Michael McGee s belief that ideographs are limited to verbal language (198 212). They protest that visual images can also be used as ideographs because they fulfill McGee s formulated features of an ideograph and are not merely icons, which are visual representations of words that always symbolize the same concept or idea. The utilization of Mount Rushmore in editorial cartoons functions as an example of a visual ideograph as distinguished by Edwards and Winkler. Through an analysis of editorial cartoons with the Mount Rushmore image, I will provide further evidence to Edwards s and Winkler s claim that visual images can exist as ideographs by fulfilling the major characteristics of an ideograph as defined by McGee. ... The importance for teachers to be positive role models is set out by the government in the Teachers Standards (Department for Education, 2011). I believe, as a male teacher, that there is an extra responsibility for me to model gender neutrality. I believe it is important for the boys in my classroom have both a positive masculine role model and a male figure in their life that is not afraid to embrace so called feminine aspects of life. I would like the boys in my classroom to understand that there are not boy jobs and girl jobs both in school and at home. I will model this by explaining my role at home; doing the dishes, hoovering, ironing and being a family man; activities that some may see as not very masculine. I will show that there is no such thing a girly colours by wearing a pink shirt from time to time. Most importantly I would like to challenge boys perception that education is feminine. In this position, it sends signals to the brain that the neck muscles no longer need to hold up your head. Now you can use the other hand to massage the tense neck muscles to help them relax. A similar effort of changing sensations often provides relief from tight neck muscles by placing an ice pack on the opposite side of your head, preferably on the area of the sinus cavity. Each side presents compelling arguments that may sway any uneducated reader to agree with their position based solely on the confidence they portray in their writings. His speech addressed the concept of death, and how people should let the idea of death motivate them to take charge of their lives. Individuals only have one life, and Jobs stated that one should be able to look in the mirror as if it were their last day and be proud of what they have done. There is some merit to his conclusion, especially from a Christian view point. Christians only have one life to live, and their actions and lives should be a testament to what God has done in their lives. However, some of his remarks fall into the vein of a godlike mindset, where individuals should live like it is their last day, regardless of what that may mean to each individual. While for humans it is natural to think that they deserve to live their lives the way they desire, humanity s true identity lies in being image bearers of God whether individuals realize that calling or not. Death should motivate people to live a life they are proud of, but it should also drive individuals to look toward the author of humanity and the purpose He has for each them. ... He was an innovative composer and artist who pushed the boundaries of contemporary jazz. Avant gardism liberated artists from the traditional form of jazz and pushed them to question and change the whole idea of jazz itself. Coltrane was the type of musician who believed that he could always be better than he already was. It was not unusual for someone to see him always practicing his music, he would practice for hours and hours a day. Coltrane mastered a lot of the different styles of jazz, because of this he went on to learn different types of music from different backgrounds so that he could use it to improvise his music. From all the jazz artist we have learned this semester, so far, Coltrane seems to be the one who had the greatest passion for jazz. For this, I admire his hard work and passion he had for jazz. The only way to have his wife escape a hanging is to admit that had relations with Abigail to the court. His great pride and fear of public view forced him to keep his adultery from the court. However, Proctor becomes more concerned with his individual integrity than his public status. Proctor still wants to cleanse his name, but for religious and personal reasons. Proctor s refusal to supply a false confession is a true personal and religious stand. Confessing would dishonor his fellow prisoners, who are brave enough to hang at the gallows as statement of truth. More importantly, a false admission would also dishonor him, tainting not just his public standing, but also his soul and integrity. By refusing to forfeit his own integrity Proctor implicitly proclaims his conviction that such integrity will bring him to heaven. He is martyred, being redeemed for his earlier sins. There are a lot of people that have this same opinion, but since he is the President, it gets made into a much bigger deal. He is supposed to be the leader of our Nation and it seems like there are bigger issues in the world to worry about. In the United States the most common is the famous Sweet Sixteen which as in the name states: relates to being sixteen years old, getting a car, and having some sort of celebration to commemorate the birthday. Among others include the Quinceanera which is usually equated with Mexico and Bat Mitzvahs which is a Jewish girl s rite of passage. Another rite of passage, called Kinaalda, is a puberty ceremony that holds the same importance and significance among the Navajo tribe as their creation story. All members within a society are assumed to agree to the terms of the social contract by their choice to stay within the society without violating the contract; such violation would signify a problematic attempt to return to the state of nature. Jean Jacques Rousseau Du Contrat social (1762) Jean Jacques Rousseau (1712 1778), in his influential 1762 treatise The Social Contract, Or Principles of Political Right, outlined a different version of contract theory, based on the conception of popular sovereignty, defined as indivisible and inalienable this last trait explaining Rousseau s aversion for representative democracy and his advocacy of direct democracy. Rousseau s theory has many similarities with the individualist Lockean liberal tradition, but also departs from it on many significant points. For example, his theory of popular sovereignty includes a conception of a general will , which is more than the simple sum of individual wills: it is thus collectivist or holistic, rather than individualist. As an individual, Rousseau argues, the subject can be egoist and decide that his personal interest should override the collective interest. However, as part of a collective body, the individual subject puts aside his egoism to create a general will , which is popular sovereignty itself. Popular sovereignty thus decides only what is good for society as a whole: The heart of the idea of the social contract may be stated simply: Each of us places his person and authority under the supreme direction of the general will, and the group receives each individual as an indivisible part of the whole... • 39. Book Report On The Japanese Tales In the Japanese Tales, translated by Royall Tyler, the observation that snakes function as agents of karma is valid. In order to teach this Buddhist theme, snakes can be portrayed with a broad range of abilities and personalities to maintain a system of cosmic justice. Consequently, the imagery of snakes is seen as complex and paradoxical from tale to tale through their ways of delivering justices. However, snakes are not only agents of karma, but can also be agents to teach the consequence of sexual desires. This essay will show the complex characterization of snakes in order to express the consequences for certain behaviors such as dishonesty, lack of devotion to Buddhism, and lust. While snakes are seen as agents of karma in Red Heat, they are also portrayed as a creature with strong vengeful and evil personality toward those who express dishonesty and lack of devotion to Buddhist vows. As illustrated in Red Heat, a pair of monks sets themselves up for karmic repercussions by accepting hospitality from a lustful widow. This gives a chance for the widow to target one of the monks to be her sexual partner, which placed the monk in a situation to commit more misdeeds. The monks behavior demonstrates a lack of devotion to protecting their vow to remain in chaste, which was to stay away from sexual interactions with women (Tyler 160). When the sexual pursuit occurred, the monk told the widow, If I suddenly break my vow, we ll suffer (Tyler 160). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

State Constitutions differ from the United States constitution, because The U.S. Constitution is solid on what to do and what not to do however gives surprisingly little direction on how to do it, however most state Constitutions all have a typical defect: they attempt to address an excessive number of themes and give an excessive number of orders to what to do and how to do it, much of the time with intense detail. Two ways in which the Constitution of Texas is different from the U.S., are that the U.S. Constitution has not been rewritten and the Texas Constitution has been rewritten several times. • 41. The Xbox 360 And Wii Video games have been around for many years and have slowly developed into a common hobby for many young adults. In fact, more than 1.2 billion people are playing video games worldwide. The original gaming console by Magnavox has evolved tremendously over the last decade and has been developed by many different companies. Although there is an innumerable amount of consoles in the world, two iconic consoles are the Microsoft s XBOX 360 and the Nintendo s Wii. The XBOX 360 and Wii are two very popular gaming consoles that are different in appearance, the applications and services they provide, and the amount of games and accessories they each have available. When compared to each other, the XBOX 360 and Wii have multiple differences when it comes to the way each console looks. The Nintendo Wii is a very small and compact device. The console developers managed to keep the Wii as small as possible by incorporating only one Universal Serial Bus also known as a USB port. The Wii console is available in a variety of colors, but the most common and standard color is white. Compared to the small size and compact aspects of the Wii, the XBOX 360 is extremely different. The XBOX is close in size to a toaster oven and can be purchased in black and white. Unlike the Wii, the XBOX has multiple USB ports. • 42. The Missouri Compromise Of 1820 The Missouri Compromise of 1820 was an attempt by Congress to defuse the sectional and political rivalries triggered by the request of Missouri late in 1819 for admission as a land in which slavery would be allowed. At the time, the United States contained twenty two states, evenly divided between slave states and free states. (Missouri Compromise , 2016) The Compromise of 1850 was laws admitting California as a free state, creating Utah and New Mexico territories with the question of slavery in each to be determined by popular sovereignty, settling a Texas New Mexico boundary dispute in the former s favor, ending the slave trade in Washington, D.C. and making it easier for southerners to recover fugitive slaves. (Compromise of 1850, 2016) The Compromise of 1850 and the Missouri Compromise of 1820 had many similarities. Both attempted to balance the slave nations, added states into the Union, encouraged Sectionalism in the North and South, and they influenced the Civil War. Each sectional would affect the balance of power between the North and South greatly. Both the Compromise of 1850 and the Missouri Compromise of 1820 had many similarities, although alike in many ways one major conflict would be the path they each would bear upon the balance of force between the Northern States and Southern States. Both the Missouri Compromise of 1820 and the Compromise of 1850 would each try to balance the slave states and free states. In 1819, when Missouri requested admission to the ... • 43. William Shakespeare Controversy Up until a decade ago, there was no questioning the famous playwright William Shakespeare s authorship. Now, theorists use the lack of documents on Shakespeare s life and doubt about how a commoner like Shakespeare could have written his famous plays to argue against Shakespeare s authorship. While arguments for other candidates may be compelling, no concrete proof exists for any one candidate that provides a clearer picture of a literary genius than Shakespeare himself. Those who support Shakespeare as the best candidate and true author emphasize the fact that the body of evidence that does exist points to Shakespeare, and no one else, as the author of his works (Pruitt). The established documented facts: Shakespeare s education, the appearance of his name on not only his published plays, but around eighty other writer s works as a form of tribute or homage in an era where providing the author s name was not customary, his familiarity with acting, setting the stage, and orchestration of the action, and his life events which are reflected in the mood of his writing give William Shakespeare holds the strongest claim to the works that bear his name. From the historical evidence available on William Shakespeare s life, it is known that he was born in April 1564, the oldest son of John Shakespeare. John Shakespeare was ambitious, and he filled many municipal offices in Stratford including that of burgess, which privileged him to educate his children without charge at the ... • 44. Social Amibition is the Stepping Stone to Humilliation in... In William Shakespeare s romantic comedy of Twelfth Night, Malvolio s, Sebastian s and Sir Andrew s greed for power and status, mirror the theme that being socially ambitious makes people an easy target for mockery and embarrassment. In the play, Malvolio desperately tries to win Olivia s heart, falling under Maria s trap. Sebastian proves his shallow and ambiguous self when he agrees to wed a complete stranger for wealth, and Sir Andrew vainly tries to prove his worth and nobleness to his fellow upper classmen, turning himself into a laughing stock. These three characters foolish actions create humor in the play as well as preach us that social ambition is the stepping stone for humiliation. Malvolio, head steward of Olivia s household is an arrogant and proud man, who evokes distaste but also pity from the audience. Maria and company craft a masterful trap into which Malvolio walks right into; they trick him into believing that the lady Olivia loves him and wishes him to prove his love for her through a series of actions. Not only does he not doubt this for a second, but he eagerly agrees to fulfill all of the embarrassing things he has been set up to do: I do not now fool/ myself, to let my imagination jade me; for every reason/ excites to this, that my lady loves me [5.2.153 155]. Malvolio s declaration confirms that he is completely blinded by the thought of him being a count and imagining himself bossing servants around and being showered with wealth that he ... • 45. The Ontological Argument By Anselm I will begin my paper by discussing the two major versions of the ontological argument by Anselm presented in the proslogion. The first being Possible and actual existence , and the second being Contingent or Necessary . One should start off with the first summarized in the standard form as follows: #1 It is a conceptual truth that God is a being than which none greater can be imagined. #2 God exists as an idea in the mind. #3 A being that exists as an idea in the mind and in reality is, other things being equal, greater than a being that exists only as an idea in the mind. #4 Thus, if God exists only as an idea in the mind, then we can imagine something that is greater than God. #5 But we cannot imagine something that is greater than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [Ia] Unfortunately to properly render a complete discussion of the ontological argument One must begin by defining a few keywords. Definitions for P2 are as follows. first, conceptual truth: something that can be understood or perceived by the use of reason or imagination. Second, a being: one s basic nature, or the qualities thereof; essence or personality[3]. Third, greater: of ability, quality, or eminence considerably above the normal or average [4]. Forth, imagined: form a mental image or concept of [4]. Fifth, Idea: a thought or suggestion as to a possible course of action [4]. Sixth, mind: the element of a person that enables them to be aware of the world and their experiences, to think, and to feel; the faculty of consciousness and thought [4]. Definitions for P3 are as follows. Seventh, actual: existing in fact; typically as contrasted with what was intended, expected, or believed [4]. Eighth, existence: the fact or state of living or having objective reality. Ninth, contingent: occurring or existing only if certain other circumstances are the case; dependent on [4]. Tenth, necessary: present; needed; essential [4]. Due to the nature of definitions, I will not give an argument for the lack of implied meanings. [IIa] For P2 axioms #1 and #3 appears that using a loose form of relativism the argument holds. For axiom #2 its entirety is an assumption that is to be disproved. Axioms #4 6 are logical deductions from Axioms #1 through #3. For P3 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Effects Of Obesity On Today s Youth In the past couple of years there has been an uproar about American health. People are starting to take notice of the fact that American citizens are getting fatter and fatter every day. Recently, there have been many documentaries about obesity in today s youth. Over the past three decades, childhood obesity rates in America have tripled, and today, nearly one in three children in America are overweight or obese. The numbers are even higher in African American and Hispanic communities, where nearly 40% of the children are overweight or obese. If we don t solve this problem, one third of all children born in 2000 or later will suffer from diabetes at some point in their lives. Many others will face chronic obesity related health problems like heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, and asthma. Children are gaining more weight and everyone thinks it is because of technology and the lack of outdoor play. That could be the reason, but it can also be something entirely different. America is known for their big meals and fattening fast food. There are fast food restaurants around every corner and it is cheap so this also contributes to the obesity rate rising. Americans are known to other countries as the fat ones . They stereotype Americans as these fat and lazy people who only think about themselves. America is the second country with the most obese people, following closely behind Mexico. Obesity is at its all time high and the government is slowly taking ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. My Goals And Strengths And Weaknesses Brooke Point High School has been my second home for the past three years and a half. There, I have completed three Honors English classes, and I m currently in a Dual Enrollment course. In those three years and a half, I have witnessed my writing skills develop and improve remarkably over time, as well as my academic growth as a writer. Like every other writer, I have both strengths and weaknesses. I rarely experience difficulty when it comes to grammar, putting my thoughts onto paper, and researching. However, deciding what to write about and writing analytical papers are some of my weaknesses I have yet to overcome. Throughout my years in school, I have managed to figure out my strengths and weaknesses, and continue to work to improve both. Since starting high school, I have found myself having less trouble with grammar, organizing my thoughts onto paper, finishing the papers assigned to me on time, and researching. Although I once struggled greatly with grammar, I don t see it as a problem anymore. The more I proofread and review the papers I write, the less grammatical errors I find. Despite it taking me a while to figure out how and what I want write about for certain papers and topics, I have always found it easy to put my thoughts onto paper. Once I know what I want to write about, the thoughts come pouring in and I find myself writing abundantly. Even though it takes me some time to figure it out at first, I still manage to turn in my papers on time. Another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Similarities of Writting Style in Walt Whitman’s “Song... Throughout time there have been many writers and poets. And with these many writers and poets their work has been different in what they write about. And their work has made an impact on society and on others. And yet in this time some writers have influenced the work of others. Walt Whitman and Allen Ginsberg who are separated by a time gap have a kind of connection. Both of these amazing writers wrote pieces of work that are considered a catalyst for the Beat Generation. These two courageous writers went against the norm and wrote about something different. Although they are different they both explored new topics. Walt Whitman s Song of Myself and Allen Ginsberg s Howl have similarities right from the first page. The first thing that they both have in common is the structure of their work. Both Howl and Song of Myself have long lines and they keep like that. Having these long lines makes the story flow. Doing this in these two works made it have some kind of steady rhythm so it was easy to read. Also another similarity Whitman had on Ginsberg was at the beginning of each sentence. In Howl the beginning would always start with who . In Song of Myself the first word of the line is Nor. This would be happening quite often. Ginsberg and Whitman both wrote about topics against what other writers would talk about. Whitman would write about sexuality/the human body and it scared off some of his readers. For example in Song of Myself on page 28 29: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
