The Charon, The Ferryman For The Titans
creatures that lived throughout the universe. Charon was the ferryman for the Titans, and delivered
soles to the underworld. After the Titans were imprisoned he continued to serve Pluto in the same way.
His job is to ferry the dead across the river Styx, to the entrance of the underworld. When he ferried
the dead Charon expected to be payed, therefore, people placed a coin on or in the mouth of the dead
person, and if they do not have a way to pay they are forced to wander the shores for one hundred
years. Charon is usually shown with a double headed hammer. At funerals slaves and servants dress as
the Charon, and in the Roman Colosseum they would give the death blow and carry out dead bodies.

Invertebrates In Alzheimer s Essay
Invertebrates in Alzheimer s
Recent medical advances, such as gaining the ability to observe closely the genetic makeup of an
individual, have led to the discovery that some invertebrates are somewhat genetically similar to
humans. Organisms like Caenorhabditis elegans, nematode worm, and Drosophila melanogaster, fruit
fly, appear to have genes similar to humans, where Alzheimer s disease genes are found. These
similarities will help researchers learn more about this relatively unknown disease and potentially save
human lives. The DNA of C. elegans and Drosophila can be used as models for studying the disease
and for testing new drugs to be used later on humans. These advances may lead to discoveries in
medicine that can save human lives in the future.
C. Elegans is a non parasitic round worm (nematode) found in locations rich with nutrients and
microorganisms, since it feeds on bacteria. This organism is commonly used as a model for testing
ideas related to aging, genetics, and drug response. This is because the genome sequence is very
similar to that of a human since according to McDonnell Genome Institute, About ... Show more

Dorsoplilia Melanogaster, or fruit fly, is a small insect that survives and reproduces on rotten fruit.
Scientists have been studying Dorsophilia for hundreds of years now, due to its abundance and the
simplicity of breeding and maintaining a large population. Because of this, scientists have been able to
observe closely their genetics. Many generations can be produced quickly for observation since the
life span of Dorsophilia is about months and a population can easily be sustained on just fruit. It was
discovered that Humans have more genes than flies but about the same number of gene families. This
relation shows just how similar human genes are to a flies , which explains why they are the perfect
models to explain certain genetic diseases found in humans, like

The Scientific Management And The Human Relations Theories
This essay will be evaluating both the Scientific management and the Human relations theories in
today s management of organisations. Scientific management theory was founded and published by
Frederick Winslow Taylor in 1909 where he proposed that productivity can be increased by
augmenting and simplifying workloads which then improves economic efficiency (Economist, 2009).
On the other hand, Human relations theories focuses on personal factors and suggests that motivation
and leadership are the features that help encourage workers to work productively (Dininni, 2017).
For Scientific Management Theory, one of Taylor s four principles was the rule of thumb where
managers should think and use scientific method to increase production by ... Show more content on

As opposed to Taylor s scientific theory, human relations theory value the workers which leads to
increased motivation and productivity (Bianca, 2017). An example of this would be a private sector,
Google. Instead of adopting Taylor s style where there are strict rules, Google allows freedom for the
workers by letting them work when they want and allowing customisation of their own surroundings
(Garguilo, 2011). This gives them their personal freedom which in turn increases motivation to work.
Therefore, this suggests that even though Taylor diminished social factors, human relations theory
gives evidence that social factors such as freedom does affect productivity in today s management.
Taylor suggested a piecework pay system where workers are payed according to their productivity.
Therefore, a worker with high productivity gets higher wages than those with less productivity. This
results in the motivation of the employees to work at an efficient rate which will mean greater
productivity and higher pay (Lawler, 2000). In addition, the customers are benefitted as enhanced
productivity will lead to advanced service or additional products created. This system can be applied
into a public sector such as libraries where the standards of

Affirmative Action Thesis
Topic: The Importance of Affirmative Action in the College Admissions Process
Thesis: In order to resolve underrepresentation of African Americans in higher education, affirmative
action is needed to promote diversity, improve students critical thinking skills, and increase race
consciousness by utilizing race as a factor in college admissions.
University of California Regents v. Bakke, 438 U.S. 265, 98 S. Ct. 2733, 57 L. Ed. 2d 750 (1978).
The Reagents of the University of California v. Bakke is a US Supreme Court case from 1978 that
upheld the use of affirmative action and allowed education institutions to use race a factor in their
admissions policy. However, the US Supreme Court decided that the use of racial quotas, such as the

William Bowen and Dr. Derek Bok composed one of the most comprehensive studies of different
affirmative action programs among universities in the United States. One of the most crucial findings
from their study was that the commonly held mismatch theory is false. The mismatch theory arose
from critics of affirmative action who feared that letting African American students into selective
universities that had lower test scores would result in a lower performance than the average student.
However, the authors discovered that black students who attended competitive colleges performed
better than their academically equivalent peers who attended a less rigorous school. This is critical
because if affirmative action was not in place, then the African American students would most likely
attend the less selective schools as their academic equivalent peers and would end up having a less
successful outcome. In addition, the study illustrated that African American students who benefitted
from Affirmative Action programs in college ended up having a greater chance at post graduate

A Modern Artist From Norway
Edvard Munch, a modern artist from Norway, born in Løten in Hedmark on 12 December 1863. He
grew up in a family of seven, with four other siblings, a mother and father characteristics of a happy
family but instead turn out to be quite the opposite. As a child he suffered from chronic asthmatic
bronchitis and rheumatic fever debilitating most of his childhood. Surrounded by death, Munch
witnessed the passing of most of his family. One by one his mother, sister, and even Munch himself
suffered from Tuberculosis, however, he would be the only one to survive it. Tragedy did not stop

Munch would always be reminded of his family s death, their torment followed his shadow and further
encroached on his mind the more time went on. Various styles, motifs, and paintings from artists such
as Claude Monet and Eugène Carrière inspired his work. However, Carrière s Sick Child, 1885 would
be a pivoting point in influencing his own painting of the same name. One of Munch s first work that
showed his notorious style can be seen in The Sick Child, 1886 painting just a year after Carrière s.
His painting depicts his sister Sophie bedridden from Tuberculosis and his mother mourning beside
her waiting for her to pass. He paints in a very melancholy tone and the color gives the viewer the
impression of sickness and sorrow. He expresses his feelings years later describing how few have ever
experienced the full grief of their subject as I did in The Sick Child. (qtd. in Prideaux 85 86). Munch s
painterly style allows us to feel the anguish and pain he must have felt while painting The Sick Child.
His process is also rather significant compared to the end product itself and provides clear insight into
his emotional state whilst he painted.
Munch not only painted with a brush but he chose to also use a palette knife for this particular painting
to show the marks of visible misery, which can be seen with the scratchy and unfinished texture. What
is even more interesting is his use of layers. His determination in layering his painting over and over

SYMBOLISM OF TREE, LOTUS, SERPENT WATER BODIES IN EARLY INDIAN
ARCHITECTURE Symbolism is the use of symbols or signs to represent symbolic meanings, ideas or
qualities. It s done by investing signs symbols and their possible meanings. In short, symbolism is the
system of symbols and representation. In early Indian architecture, symbols were widely used to
invoke different meanings. Symbols had mythical as well as philosophical meanings bestowed upon
them. So these symbols embody more a religious purpose than an artistic aesthetic purpose. Decoding
the different meanings of a single symbol itself is problematic. A single symbol itself carries a variety

Describe The American River Basin
Study Area Description
The American River is a prime example of a multiple use, water resource system. It is the second
biggest tributary to the Sacramento River, a basic part of the San Francisco Inlet/Sacramento San
Joaquin Delta framework Its basin covers 2,163 mi2 of the western slope of the central Sierra Nevada
(fig. 1) east of Sacramento, California. This complicated system consists of three major parts the
North and Middle Forks, the South Fork, and the Lower American River downstream from Folsom
Lake (fig. 1). These major forks and Folsom Lake represent a natural and modified system of streams
and impoundments designed to meet the recreational and water supply needs of many Californians.
The American River basin is generally mountainous except for the small valley area on the west end
between the Sacramento River and Folsom Lake. Altitudes range from about 5 ft near the confluence
with the Sacramento River to 10,380 ft at Round Top Mountain, which overlooks the Silver Fork
American River in the southeast corner of the basin. Basin characteristics for each sub watershed of
the river upstream from Folsom Lake are shown in Table 1. The drainage density and basin order,

poverty has stimulated it has blighted a hundred (p. 264). Secondly, the difference that was
recognizable was the religious aspect. Even though Claudio was raised a Roman Catholic and I an
Anglican, we both believe in the same God. Our views on heaven and hell totally differ relating to
religious beliefs. From my perspective I, believe in heaven and a hell. Coupled with, being
accountable to someone when you depart this world. As the saying goes, everyone was put on this
earth for a reason and we as individuals should achieve and accomplished the purpose we were meant
to achieve. If for some reason, we did not achieve our purpose while we were on earth, then there
should be consequences for our actions or missteps when our souls depart this earth. Claudio on the
other hand, whose early years were deeply engrossed in becoming a priest, has drawn a connection
from his own life experience. For instance, he seems to come to the conclusion that there is a heaven,
but not a hell. He also elaborated that the persecution that humans endure during their lifetime on
earth is the hell we sometimes describes when

The Birth Evolution Of Trinidad Carnival
Beginning in the late 1700s, the festival known as Carnival was introduced to various parts of the
world as a public celebration or parade that involved the use of masks, musical elements, costumes
and more. Dating back to the 18th century, the Trinidad Carnival was introduced around the time of
the arrival of the French Catholic planters from the French West Indies. The festival originated in the
early 1780s when both white and colored people staged masquerade balls at Christmas time for
entertainment. From there, it developed into playful taunting between the two groups and eventually
the tradition evolved to mark the approaching Catholic Lenten season. Unable to participate, the West
African slaves of the planters held their own masked festivals, focused around the burning and reaping
of the sugar cane. For all groups, mockery and veneer played a great role in the custom ( Birth
Evolution of Trinidad Carnival ). Following the slave emancipation in 1838, Canboulay was viewed as
a symbol of independence and defiance. Over time this converged with stickfighting, chanting, and
drumming, and the rituals of Canboulay became something of a masquerade. After great conflict with
the British colonial government, who were insistent on banning drumming, masquerade, and the steel
pan the festival was eventually adopted as a symbol of Trinidadian culture during the independence
movement ( The Birth Evolution of Trinidad Carnival ). A great deal of the musical aspect of

Importance Of Social Norms
Norms are regarded as important rules and expectations set by the society as their way of not only
organizing a group but more importantly as their way of maintaining order. More often than not, these
rules and expectations are implicitly dictated by the society and are valued as a standard how an
individual should behave. At times, expected behaviors are explicitly set by the group. Although the
reason behind the emergence and existence of norms are unclear, what is certain is that these norms
are seen as important. Thus, breaking it or deviating from the social standards are often frowned upon
and even condemned by the society.
Laws are not sufficient enough to keep a society at peace. The two types of norms that exist are formal

with friends when expected to do so, eating a nice dinner with hands, and many strange elevator
escapades. Along with similarities, there were also differences that stood out to me. These differences
include wearing clothing that is not considered appropriate or looks strange to the general public; For

Theme Of Rape Of The Lock
Mock epic is a narrative poem which aims at mockery and laughter by using almost all the
characteristic features of an epic but for a trivial subject. In the The Rape of the Lock there is an
invocation to Muses, intention of subject, battles, supernatural machinery, and journey on water,
underworld journey, long speeches, feasts (coffee house), Homeric similes and grand style but all for a
simple family dispute instead of a national struggle. The grand action of a low subject produces
comical laughter and makes the story more absurd. Instead of magnificent passions and great fights

minor passionate quarrel assisted by the spirits of the air. The ... Show more content on

In the poem Rape of the Lock, Pope has introduced the episodes of the game of Omber which suggests
the powerful battle and the cards involve the soldiers described in great detail. There is also the battle
between lords and ladies just like the battle in epic poem. But in mock epic this battle is fought with
fans and snuff instead of with swords and spears. There are single fight between Belinda and Baron
and between Clarissa and Sir Plume. Another very important element of an epic is the active
participation of supernatural machinery like god and goddesses. In The Rape of the Lock, there are
sylphs and gnomes. These aerial spirits are small and unimportant things and are therefore, exactly in
keeping with the triviality of the theme. These aerial spirits guards the person of the heroine that is
Belinda and when there is fight between the flowers of Belinda and those of the Baron, they take part
in the fight like god and goddesses in war. Pope described the protecting sylph under Ariel. In that the
sylphs are the lampoon of epic deities. A long dangerous journey on water is a must in an epic. Here in

Essay on Attachment Theory
To gain a better insight of attachment theory Mary S. Ainsworth developed a concept unfolding the
underlying behaviors infants display towards their mothers. Without a mother infant bond, insecure
attachment can develop causing psychological and emotional stresses. However, a maternal bond is
needed for a healthy development in an infant, without the necessary mother infant bond negative
behaviors can arise leading to difficulties in relationships, negative behaviors, and an anxious
attachment beyond infancy caused by a lack of the care giving system. In order for children to thrive,
infants need to experience healthy nurturing relationships with their mother or caregiver. Nevertheless,

discriminated figure by means of locomotion; Phase (4) formation of a reciprocal relation (Ainsworth,

one another, by responding with grasping, smiling, and crying by responding to tactile functions and
stimuli. Phase (2) infant behaves in the same way as phase one, but in a discrete fashion by displaying
behaviors by mothers voice, such as crying, smiling, and by touch. Phase (3) infant shows behaviors

Mount Ruapehu Essay
The Māori definition for Mount Ruapehu is exploding pit of noise, a phrase that is suitable for the
2787 metre tall volcano. Mount Ruapehu is the highest active volcano in New Zealand and the most
dangerous of the Volcanic Plateau region, see figure 1. Often defined by its large Crater Lake, the
classic cone volcano is shaped by a layered landscape with a ring plain at the summits peak. All of
these surface features seen today, are the result and combination of internal and external geological
processes.
Mount Ruapehu is located at the Southern end of the extremely active Taupo Volcanic Zone, close to
the centre of the North Island in New Zealand, see figure 2. As a result of continental drift, volcanic
landforms are developed by collisions and movement of tectonic plates in the Earth s crust.
Earth is made up of five major layers including the inner core, outer core, mantle, upper mantle and
crust. The upper mantle of the Earth is a approximately 1100C, a temperature so hot that the rock
melts to form a molten layer, causing the pieces of the Earth s
crust to move and collide. Convention currents is a progression where hot magma from the upper
mantle rises towards the surface where it then cools and forms a surface skin, see figure 3. The skin is
pushed aside as more magma develops, then forced back under the upper mantle. The skin melts and
the process is repeated.

Persuasive Essay On Gasoline Taxes
Federal gasoline tax debate has been on continuous lose ends in the economy and American society as
a whole. The debate on the plans to reduce harmful emission is one of the main issues for an increase
in the tax on gasoline. The government of United States also aims at reduction in fuel imports to
decrease the deficit. Most people in the American fraternity believed that increase in the gasoline tax
would result that the negative effects would reduce, (Ferrero, Giosuè Balducci, 33).
Analysis
Change in the gasoline tax would affect various parties in the society. One of the impacts is that the
members of the society would have to drive a fewer miles, and a shift would result to more fuel
efficient cars to minimize the cost effect of gasoline. This is a direct impact on consumer behavior
since the consumers demand for gasoline will reduce. An increase in gasoline tax will reduce air
pollution by the alternative carbon emitting fuels that are in use. The U.S government will have to find
out a way to compensate on reduced Carbon Taxes as a result of alternative carbon emitting fuels [Fig

The government has continuously used the revenue on roads maintenance and construction. Additional
tax on gasoline should be invested in research on better and more improved ways and tax breaks for

these policies are implemented, an increase in tax will serve as a true pigouvian tax [1] if the income
tax is used for this purpose. Many economists all over have suggested that this funds from additional
tax should be used in funding social security and also balance the budget deficit that is a good take.
Thus, these funds have numerous uses but a keen look in the transport and social security will be of

black melancholy to him who lives in the midst of Nature (111). Thoreau s theme of being alone and
appreciating nature is found throughout his book to such an extent that one can conclude that he
believes the best way to live is without society. Thoreau cannot stand to pay his taxes because he
refuses to, recognize the authority of, the state which buys and sells men, women, and children (145).

People love to have the newest toys, and put great stock in the newest fashion trends. In present day
society, new technology or clothes symbolize status and wealth that separates the social classes of
people. Thoreau shows his readers that this form of separation has existed since the eighteen hundreds.
Thoreau comments on how people would often throw out perfectly good clothes, because of one little
hole, because people are judged by their clothes (20). This upsets Thoreau because to him, a little bit
of damage does not mean something is useless or broken. He believes that people should just patch the
hole, since it is more cost effective and will increase the duration of the articles lifetime. However,
more commonly the piece of clothing is thrown out to be replaced by a new article. In Thoreau s eyes,
people follow such a practice because, Our outside and often thin and fanciful clothes are our
epidermis or false skin (21). Thoreau s dislike of society stems from the fact that people [Donn]
garment after garment (21), taking too much pride in their outward appearance. The idea that the value
of a person s life is dictated by their possessions is one reason why Thoreau believes that society
serves to corrupt and infect everyone who is a part of it. Society refuses to live by necessity alone, but
rather focuses on the accumulation of

How Does Edgar Allan Poe Use Alliteration In Poetry
Tintinnabulation I know, Poe. Again. Truth be told I do not know many other poetic authors. Nor did I
have a large mental library of poems to draw from. Yet, I digress. Typically, I do not take the copout. I
try to take on every new assignment as a new opportunity to expand my knowledge or learn something
new. When it comes to poems though, that shelf is bare. I have only started caring about poems for the
last six weeks. I like poems, I simply do not have prior experience with them. So, I took a copout, and
chose The Bells by Eager Allen Poe. This poem is heavy in two distinctly poetic elements. Assonance
and Alliteration. Assonance is the repetition of the Vowel sounds at the end of a word, were

In the second half of the poem the tone also makes a shift and becomes distinctly Poe. Strangely the
third line of the third stanza is What tale of terror, now, their turbulency tells! (Poe). This line sticks in
your head like the refrain of the most recent and obnoxious pop song. The alliteration from here just
keeps getting better. Starting with the next line and on to the eighth, In the startled ear of night / How
they scream out their affright! / Too much Horrified to speak, / They can only shriek, shriek, / Out of
tune, (Poe). So, the key words here are, scream, speak, and shriek. There is no brain trickery here just
the same consent. There is also a line that is only in the first and last stanza that is In a sort of runic
rhyme (Poe) this line creates a sort of image. Runic, or a rune is an incantation that is written on an
object to create a permeate effect. So, the runic rhyme hints toward a more mystical element to the
bells. This is a foreshadowing of the last stanza. This line is first used in line ten and is not seen again
till line 94. In the last stanza, is where that poem hits a runic apex of alliteration. This excerpt from the
fourth stanza, I personally feel, is a good representation of the poem. What a world of solemn thought
their monody compels! / In the silence of the night, / How we shiver with affright / At the melancholy
meaning of their tone! (Poe). This is my favorite part of this poem. Solemn silence shiver, melancholy
meaning, and their tone are all alliteration. These four lines are build up to the next three. For every
sound that floats / From the rust within their throats / Is a groan. (Poe). Then with the assonance of
tone, floats, throats, and groan in combination with the metaphor in the second line creates a striking
image. The metaphor in the line From the rust within their throats (Poe), is not like the typical
metaphor. Though this metaphor does

Redwood Short Stories
The city of Redwood has been just like any small town of star scattered America located in rural
Michigan. The town s population only consisted of probably not even 700 citizens; so everybody
knew everybody and everybody knew each other s business. There was never anything big or exciting
happening there, the most eye widening crime they ve ever had was a person jaywalking one of the
three stoplights of the town. All was fine and dandy in this town, that is until the big, bad bandit came
to town. Did you hear the news?! Charlie Birklin exclaimed breathlessly to her fellow friend Jonah
Wick. He stopped in his tracks and let his rosy cheeked friend catch her breath. He rolled his stormy
gray eyes at her as she wiped her strawberry blonde ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

in the woods at say the hours of night under the influence of alcohol stumbling about trying to find
your way home. Yes. Just one more question how many houses did you happen to open with your
hands loaded with your DNA until you found yours. Uh about 4, how did you know? Just a lucky
guess, and 4 just so happens to be the number of the houses you stumbled on and the number of
houses that were ravaged through and were the ones that were evacuated as crime scenes, but since
you were under the influence of one swig of alcohol you could not even tell. Don t drink kids or you ll

Significant Impact On The Development Of Rock N Roll

MUS 109 Rock Music
Midterm Exam
Both the radio and records have had significant impact on the development on rock n roll. Similarly,
the radio and records gave musical artists an extended ability to stretch their audiences. Strongly
intertwined, while they both gave listeners the ability to find artists they like, there are some clear
differences between each the developments of the radio and that of records. In the years prior, the
music industry was built on the Tin Pan Alley system that strictly controlled musicians and popular
music (Schloss, Starr, and Waterman, p. 2 7). And much like the spirit of rock n roll itself, people
within the industry eventually grew tired of conformity and no longer felt the need to follow the rules.
Radio stations started forming separate licensing companies (BMI), which allowed them to play what
they want (Schloss, Starr, and Waterman, p. 7). With an open door policy that allowed broadcasters to
play music they wanted, radio stations had the important job of sharing a variety of music that could
be heard all across the country. The radio began to function as a way of transporting records and
genres of music all over the country from the traditional cultures they formed, which includes R B,
blues, and country. This reshaped the music industry by expanding its reach to new audiences. This,
allowed songwriters working outside of mainstream pop to claim royalties on the use of their songs on

CBA Everett Massacre
February, 2016
What Caused the Everett Massacre? Did you know, the bloodiest labor confrontation (The Everett
Massacre) occurred in Washington state, on November 5th, 1916? Well, it s true! That Sunday, a group
called the Wobblies went on ships from Seattle, Washington to Everett, Washington. The biggest
causes of the Everett Massacre are assumptions, fear, and most importantly, dissatisfaction. First off,
assumptions was a big contributor to the occurrence of the Everett Massacre, since police assumed
that the Wobblies needed to be stopped. The first quote that supports assumptions as a cause is, On
November 5th, word reached Everett that a group of armed anarchists was coming to burn their town.

Dissatisfaction is the biggest cause because it s the domino that toppled everything into action. Nuns
are known for telling the truth, so they are pretty reliable. A nun who witnessed the tragic event tells
us, Everett s shingle workers had been on strike over pay. ( Recalling Everett s complicated Day
HeraldNet.com. The Daily Herald. N.p., n.d. Web. 28 Jan. 2016.) This quote lets you know that the
workers had been on strike. This dissatisfaction led to Wobblies going to Everett to speak out against
the issue. Their intentions were assumed, which led cops to go try to defend themselves (fear), and
many people ended up losing their lives. You also know it is a labor confrontation based on the quote,
The Everett Massacre of Sunday, November 5, 1916, has been called the bloodiest labor confrontation
in Northwest history. ( Everett Massacre (1916). HistoryLink.org the Free Online Encyclopedia of
Washington State History. N.p., n.d. Web. 28 Jan. 2016.) These quotes both tell you that the strikers
were upset about their pay. Dissatisfaction is by far the most important cause of the Everett Massacre
because it is the one that started the chain of events. In conclusion, the 3 main causes of the Everett
Massacre were assumptions, fear, and most important dissatisfaction. Basically, if the workers had a
pay they were satisfied, all of the tragedy with the Wobblies and police wouldn t have happened. An
important thing you can learn from the Everett Massacre is that if your workers go on strike, work it
out peacefully while you can, and if workers near you go on strike, stay as far away from the drama as

Authors have even noted trends toward increasing modularity (particularly in the United States) in
educational curricula, architecture, literature, and music (Blair, 1988). Modularity exponentially
increases the number of possible configurations achievable from a given set of inputs, greatly
increasing the flexibility of a system. However, research also indicates that not all systems migrate
toward increasing modularity; some appear to follow a path toward increasing integration. In product
systems, for example, sets of components that once were easily mixed and matched may sometimes be
bundled into a single integrated package that does not allow (or that discourages) substitution of other
components. Many commonly used software applications are now bundled into software suites that
promote seam 2000 Schilling 313 less integration. Although they do not prohibit using other vendor
components, they discourage it by offering dramatically improved performance through the
combination of the particular set of applications. Even bicycle componentryonce typically sold as
individual components, such as brakes, gear sets, cranks, and derailleurs now is sold predominantly in
integrated component bundles that may not be mixed and matched. In organizational systems,
researchers have noted that whereas in many industries firms other industries appear to be

Running head: HEALTHCARE FRAUD AND ABUSE
Healthcare Fraud and Abuse
Abstract
Rising costs of healthcare is a valid concern for many households in America. A factor in the cost of
healthcare insurance is fraud. Fraud is often very difficult to detect. The magnitude of healthcare fraud
is unknown. Initial reimbursement and payment and billing timeframe of 90 days allows for fast
payment of services, however, many times before there is an indication of fraudulent billing the
company has closed up and moved on. Fraud in American healthcare, costs American s millions

Abuse takes such forms as, but is not limited to: Over utilization of medical and health care services;
claims for services that are not reasonable and necessary, or if deemed medically necessary, not to the
extent rendered or billed; breaches of the assignment agreement which result in beneficiaries being
billed for amounts disallowed by the carrier on the basis that such charges exceeded the Medicare Fee
Schedule; exceeding the Limiting Charge for non participating providers; violations of the Medicare
Participating Agreements by physicians, suppliers or practitioners. Many other forms of abuse exist
and some, including those described above, are ultimately found to be fraudulent. When abuse is
committed, the government can: Recover payment made in error; invoke civil monetary penalties
congruent to the degree of abuse; suspend the provider from the Federal Healthcare Programs.(NHIC

Abstract
The concept of using Pervious Concrete Pavement have been developed many years ago, but it has
come to light recently, because of the increase of storm due to climate change. Pervious Concrete
pavement is a different type of concrete with high porosity, which allows the water to infiltrate and
reach the groundwater; thereby it reduces the water runoff and filtrates it. This kind of permeable
pavement, consist of large aggregates and less or no fine aggregates. The pervious concrete pavement
is one of the important and sustainable construction for reducing the environmental impacts and it is a
good choice for earning LEED credits.

The European Union Of Ban Commercial Seal Products
Abstract
This paper delves into the disputes brought against the European Union by Canada and Norway. In
doing so, the specifics of the disputes will be discussed and the World Trade Organization s policies
and procedures that have thus far allowed for the European Union to ban commercial seal products
from these two countries. The research done on the topic of sealing will cover the regulations in both
the Canadian and Norwegian seal fishing and also how their communities are impacted economically.
The European Union s main argument is that neither of these countries regulations on humane killing
are efficient enough in ensuring that humane killings can occur at all times. Because of this, they
continue to defend that their regulations go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have several arguments, including the following: seal products from Canada and Norway are
treated less favorably compared to the European Union s (EU) domestic seal products and Greenland
s, the EU Seal Regime (measure that prohibits seal products into the EU) creates obstacles and trade
restrictions that are unnecessary and that some of the procedural requirements go against requirements
of the conformity assessment, Travellers conditions create quantitative restrictions on trade, and the
Regime hurts any benefits accrued to them under covered agreements (Panel Report, 2013). The EU,
on the other hand, claims that their Seal Regime meets obligations of the World Trade Organization
(WTO). Three conditions applied to seal products are as follows: the products were received from
seals hunted by Inuit or Indigenous communities, the products were received from seals hunted for
marine resource management, and travelers are allowed to bring seal products in limitation. The EU
claims that the regulations put into place in 2009 and 2010 were implemented because of public moral
concerns involving the welfare of seals; people should not cause suffering of animals without clear
justification (Europa, 2013). The EU argue that inconsistencies claimed by Canada and Norway within
the GATT 1994 should be considered as justified because they are working to protect public morals
and seals health. They also argue that, under the TBT Agreement, any

How Did Nationalism Affect Italian Unification
Nationalism: Might of Unity and Disunity Nationalism drives peoples of similar heritages and dreams
to take great pride in their own ethnic group or country. It brings new nations together and destroys
old one as a powerful and overwhelming force of both unity and disunity. Nationalism especially had
an effect on Italian unification, bringing the people to unite under three key leaders; Mazzini, Cavour,
and Garibaldi. While nationalism certainly brought Italians together, it spread far past the peninsula
and into the Austrian empire, where it broke the people apart. The Slavic groups under the umbrella of
Austria Hungary united themselves, dividing the empire and tearing it down. Both with dreams of
independence, Italy and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even so, despite having different governments, the states were similar in their culture, heritage, and
language. Giuseppe Mazzini inspired Italians to realize their similarities and to take pride in
themselves. After all, Italy was where one of the greatest cultural and artistic movements took place,
the Renaissance.
Italy actually hadn t experienced true political unity since the Roman times, however, the Napoleonic
conquests gave the city states a taste of unity once more. Filled with Mazzini s words of freedom,
brotherhood, and unification, the Italian people grew in nationalistic ideals. But culture wasn t the
Italian states only similarity, they also shared a common enemy; Austria. To build themselves a self
governing state, nationalists had to defeat the mammoth foe. The area leading the assault on Austria
was the Kingdom of Sardinia, ruled under King Victor Emmanuel II. His goal was to unite northern
Italy, as breaking the trade barrier would grant him more power. King Emmanuel II appointed a
brilliant prime minister, nationalist leader and monarchist, Camillo Cavour. Cavour was willing to use
whatever means necessary to unify northern

  • 3. Invertebrates In Alzheimer s Essay Invertebrates in Alzheimer s Recent medical advances, such as gaining the ability to observe closely the genetic makeup of an individual, have led to the discovery that some invertebrates are somewhat genetically similar to humans. Organisms like Caenorhabditis elegans, nematode worm, and Drosophila melanogaster, fruit fly, appear to have genes similar to humans, where Alzheimer s disease genes are found. These similarities will help researchers learn more about this relatively unknown disease and potentially save human lives. The DNA of C. elegans and Drosophila can be used as models for studying the disease and for testing new drugs to be used later on humans. These advances may lead to discoveries in medicine that can save human lives in the future. C. Elegans is a non parasitic round worm (nematode) found in locations rich with nutrients and microorganisms, since it feeds on bacteria. This organism is commonly used as a model for testing ideas related to aging, genetics, and drug response. Scientists have been studying Dorsophilia for hundreds of years now, due to its abundance and the simplicity of breeding and maintaining a large population. Because of this, scientists have been able to observe closely their genetics. Many generations can be produced quickly for observation since the life span of Dorsophilia is about months and a population can easily be sustained on just fruit. It was discovered that Humans have more genes than flies but about the same number of gene families. • 4. The Scientific Management And The Human Relations Theories This essay will be evaluating both the Scientific management and the Human relations theories in today s management of organisations. Scientific management theory was founded and published by Frederick Winslow Taylor in 1909 where he proposed that productivity can be increased by augmenting and simplifying workloads which then improves economic efficiency (Economist, 2009). On the other hand, Human relations theories focuses on personal factors and suggests that motivation and leadership are the features that help encourage workers to work productively (Dininni, 2017). For Scientific Management Theory, one of Taylor s four principles was the rule of thumb where managers should think and use scientific method to increase production by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As opposed to Taylor s scientific theory, human relations theory value the workers which leads to increased motivation and productivity (Bianca, 2017). An example of this would be a private sector, Google. Instead of adopting Taylor s style where there are strict rules, Google allows freedom for the workers by letting them work when they want and allowing customisation of their own surroundings (Garguilo, 2011). This gives them their personal freedom which in turn increases motivation to work. Therefore, this suggests that even though Taylor diminished social factors, human relations theory gives evidence that social factors such as freedom does affect productivity in today s management. Taylor suggested a piecework pay system where workers are payed according to their productivity. Therefore, a worker with high productivity gets higher wages than those with less productivity. This results in the motivation of the employees to work at an efficient rate which will mean greater productivity and higher pay (Lawler, 2000). In addition, the customers are benefitted as enhanced productivity will lead to advanced service or additional products created. This system can be applied into a public sector such as libraries where the standards of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Affirmative Action Thesis Topic: The Importance of Affirmative Action in the College Admissions Process Thesis: In order to resolve underrepresentation of African Americans in higher education, affirmative action is needed to promote diversity, improve students critical thinking skills, and increase race consciousness by utilizing race as a factor in college admissions. University of California Regents v. Bakke, 438 U.S. 265, 98 S. Ct. 2733, 57 L. Ed. 2d 750 (1978). The Reagents of the University of California v. William Bowen and Dr. Derek Bok composed one of the most comprehensive studies of different affirmative action programs among universities in the United States. One of the most crucial findings from their study was that the commonly held mismatch theory is false. The mismatch theory arose from critics of affirmative action who feared that letting African American students into selective universities that had lower test scores would result in a lower performance than the average student. However, the authors discovered that black students who attended competitive colleges performed better than their academically equivalent peers who attended a less rigorous school. This is critical because if affirmative action was not in place, then the African American students would most likely attend the less selective schools as their academic equivalent peers and would end up having a less successful outcome. In addition, the study illustrated that African American students who benefitted from Affirmative Action programs in college ended up having a greater chance at post graduate ... Various styles, motifs, and paintings from artists such as Claude Monet and Eugène Carrière inspired his work. One of Munch s first work that showed his notorious style can be seen in The Sick Child, 1886 painting just a year after Carrière s. His painting depicts his sister Sophie bedridden from Tuberculosis and his mother mourning beside her waiting for her to pass. He paints in a very melancholy tone and the color gives the viewer the impression of sickness and sorrow. He expresses his feelings years later describing how few have ever experienced the full grief of their subject as I did in The Sick Child. (qtd. in Prideaux 85 86). Munch s painterly style allows us to feel the anguish and pain he must have felt while painting The Sick Child. His process is also rather significant compared to the end product itself and provides clear insight into his emotional state whilst he painted. Munch not only painted with a brush but he chose to also use a palette knife for this particular painting to show the marks of visible misery, which can be seen with the scratchy and unfinished texture. What is even more interesting is his use of layers. His determination in layering his painting over and over for a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The Birth Evolution Of Trinidad Carnival Beginning in the late 1700s, the festival known as Carnival was introduced to various parts of the world as a public celebration or parade that involved the use of masks, musical elements, costumes and more. Dating back to the 18th century, the Trinidad Carnival was introduced around the time of the arrival of the French Catholic planters from the French West Indies. The festival originated in the early 1780s when both white and colored people staged masquerade balls at Christmas time for entertainment. From there, it developed into playful taunting between the two groups and eventually the tradition evolved to mark the approaching Catholic Lenten season. Unable to participate, the West African slaves of the planters held their own masked festivals, focused around the burning and reaping of the sugar cane. For all groups, mockery and veneer played a great role in the custom ( Birth Evolution of Trinidad Carnival ). Following the slave emancipation in 1838, Canboulay was viewed as a symbol of independence and defiance. Over time this converged with stickfighting, chanting, and drumming, and the rituals of Canboulay became something of a masquerade. After great conflict with the British colonial government, who were insistent on banning drumming, masquerade, and the steel pan the festival was eventually adopted as a symbol of Trinidadian culture during the independence movement ( The Birth Evolution of Trinidad Carnival ). Often defined by its large Crater Lake, the classic cone volcano is shaped by a layered landscape with a ring plain at the summits peak. All of these surface features seen today, are the result and combination of internal and external geological processes. Mount Ruapehu is located at the Southern end of the extremely active Taupo Volcanic Zone, close to the centre of the North Island in New Zealand, see figure 2. As a result of continental drift, volcanic landforms are developed by collisions and movement of tectonic plates in the Earth s crust. Earth is made up of five major layers including the inner core, outer core, mantle, upper mantle and crust. The upper mantle of the Earth is a approximately 1100C, a temperature so hot that the rock melts to form a molten layer, causing the pieces of the Earth s crust to move and collide. Convention currents is a progression where hot magma from the upper mantle rises towards the surface where it then cools and forms a surface skin, see figure 3. The skin is pushed aside as more magma develops, then forced back under the upper mantle. The skin melts and the process is repeated. When plate boundaries meet, they rub against each other either shattering, sliding or buckling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Persuasive Essay On Gasoline Taxes Federal gasoline tax debate has been on continuous lose ends in the economy and American society as a whole. The debate on the plans to reduce harmful emission is one of the main issues for an increase in the tax on gasoline. The government of United States also aims at reduction in fuel imports to decrease the deficit. Most people in the American fraternity believed that increase in the gasoline tax would result that the negative effects would reduce, (Ferrero, Giosuè Balducci, 33). Analysis Change in the gasoline tax would affect various parties in the society. One of the impacts is that the members of the society would have to drive a fewer miles, and a shift would result to more fuel efficient cars to minimize the cost effect of gasoline. This is a direct impact on consumer behavior since the consumers demand for gasoline will reduce. An increase in gasoline tax will reduce air pollution by the alternative carbon emitting fuels that are in use. The U.S government will have to find out a way to compensate on reduced Carbon Taxes as a result of alternative carbon emitting fuels [Fig 2]. In his chapter Solitude Thoreau describes how [his] horizon bounded by woods all to [himself] (111) is beautiful and belongs solely to him. As he is enjoying nature Thoreau states, There can be no very black melancholy to him who lives in the midst of Nature (111). Thoreau s theme of being alone and appreciating nature is found throughout his book to such an extent that one can conclude that he believes the best way to live is without society. In present day society, new technology or clothes symbolize status and wealth that separates the social classes of people. Thoreau shows his readers that this form of separation has existed since the eighteen hundreds. Thoreau comments on how people would often throw out perfectly good clothes, because of one little hole, because people are judged by their clothes (20). This upsets Thoreau because to him, a little bit of damage does not mean something is useless or broken. He believes that people should just patch the hole, since it is more cost effective and will increase the duration of the articles lifetime. However, more commonly the piece of clothing is thrown out to be replaced by a new article. In Thoreau s eyes, people follow such a practice because, Our outside and often thin and fanciful clothes are our epidermis or false skin (21). Thoreau s dislike of society stems from the fact that people [Donn] garment after garment (21), taking too much pride in their outward appearance. • 23. How Does Edgar Allan Poe Use Alliteration In Poetry Tintinnabulation I know, Poe. Again. Truth be told I do not know many other poetic authors. Nor did I have a large mental library of poems to draw from. Yet, I digress. Typically, I do not take the copout. I try to take on every new assignment as a new opportunity to expand my knowledge or learn something new. When it comes to poems though, that shelf is bare. I have only started caring about poems for the last six weeks. I like poems, I simply do not have prior experience with them. So, I took a copout, and chose The Bells by Eager Allen Poe. This poem is heavy in two distinctly poetic elements. Assonance and Alliteration. Assonance is the repetition of the Vowel sounds at the end of a word, were Alliteration is the invers. That is repetition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the second half of the poem the tone also makes a shift and becomes distinctly Poe. Strangely the third line of the third stanza is What tale of terror, now, their turbulency tells! (Poe). This line sticks in your head like the refrain of the most recent and obnoxious pop song. The alliteration from here just keeps getting better. Starting with the next line and on to the eighth, In the startled ear of night / How they scream out their affright! / Too much Horrified to speak, / They can only shriek, shriek, / Out of tune, (Poe). So, the key words here are, scream, speak, and shriek. There is no brain trickery here just the same consent. There is also a line that is only in the first and last stanza that is In a sort of runic rhyme (Poe) this line creates a sort of image. Runic, or a rune is an incantation that is written on an object to create a permeate effect. So, the runic rhyme hints toward a more mystical element to the bells. This is a foreshadowing of the last stanza. This line is first used in line ten and is not seen again till line 94. In the last stanza, is where that poem hits a runic apex of alliteration. This excerpt from the fourth stanza, I personally feel, is a good representation of the poem. What a world of solemn thought their monody compels! / In the silence of the night, / How we shiver with affright / At the melancholy meaning of their tone! (Poe). This is my favorite part of this poem. Solemn silence shiver, melancholy meaning, and their tone are all alliteration. These four lines are build up to the next three. For every sound that floats / From the rust within their throats / Is a groan. (Poe). Then with the assonance of tone, floats, throats, and groan in combination with the metaphor in the second line creates a striking image. The metaphor in the line From the rust within their throats (Poe), is not like the typical metaphor. Though this metaphor does ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Significant Impact On The Development Of Rock N Roll Ava Gurba 7/24/15 MUS 109 Rock Music Midterm Exam Both the radio and records have had significant impact on the development on rock n roll. Similarly, the radio and records gave musical artists an extended ability to stretch their audiences. Strongly intertwined, while they both gave listeners the ability to find artists they like, there are some clear differences between each the developments of the radio and that of records. In the years prior, the music industry was built on the Tin Pan Alley system that strictly controlled musicians and popular music (Schloss, Starr, and Waterman, p. 2 7). And much like the spirit of rock n roll itself, people within the industry eventually grew tired of conformity and no longer felt the need to follow the rules. Radio stations started forming separate licensing companies (BMI), which allowed them to play what they want (Schloss, Starr, and Waterman, p. 7). With an open door policy that allowed broadcasters to play music they wanted, radio stations had the important job of sharing a variety of music that could be heard all across the country. The radio began to function as a way of transporting records and genres of music all over the country from the traditional cultures they formed, which includes R B, blues, and country. This reshaped the music industry by expanding its reach to new audiences. This, allowed songwriters working outside of mainstream pop to claim royalties on the use of their songs on broadcasted ... Did you know, the bloodiest labor confrontation (The Everett Massacre) occurred in Washington state, on November 5th, 1916? Well, it s true! That Sunday, a group called the Wobblies went on ships from Seattle, Washington to Everett, Washington. The biggest causes of the Everett Massacre are assumptions, fear, and most importantly, dissatisfaction. First off, assumptions was a big contributor to the occurrence of the Everett Massacre, since police assumed that the Wobblies needed to be stopped. The first quote that supports assumptions as a cause is, On November 5th, word reached Everett that a group of armed anarchists was coming to burn their town. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dissatisfaction is the biggest cause because it s the domino that toppled everything into action. Nuns are known for telling the truth, so they are pretty reliable. A nun who witnessed the tragic event tells us, Everett s shingle workers had been on strike over pay. ( Recalling Everett s complicated Day HeraldNet.com. The Daily Herald. N.p., n.d. Web. 28 Jan. 2016.) This quote lets you know that the workers had been on strike. This dissatisfaction led to Wobblies going to Everett to speak out against the issue. Their intentions were assumed, which led cops to go try to defend themselves (fear), and many people ended up losing their lives. You also know it is a labor confrontation based on the quote, The Everett Massacre of Sunday, November 5, 1916, has been called the bloodiest labor confrontation in Northwest history. ( Everett Massacre (1916). HistoryLink.org the Free Online Encyclopedia of Washington State History. N.p., n.d. Web. 28 Jan. 2016.) These quotes both tell you that the strikers were upset about their pay. Dissatisfaction is by far the most important cause of the Everett Massacre because it is the one that started the chain of events. In conclusion, the 3 main causes of the Everett Massacre were assumptions, fear, and most important dissatisfaction. Basically, if the workers had a pay they were satisfied, all of the tragedy with the Wobblies and police wouldn t have happened. Authors have even noted trends toward increasing modularity (particularly in the United States) in educational curricula, architecture, literature, and music (Blair, 1988). Modularity exponentially increases the number of possible configurations achievable from a given set of inputs, greatly increasing the flexibility of a system. However, research also indicates that not all systems migrate toward increasing modularity; some appear to follow a path toward increasing integration. In product systems, for example, sets of components that once were easily mixed and matched may sometimes be bundled into a single integrated package that does not allow (or that discourages) substitution of other components.
