Essay One Assignment: The Tuskegee Study
Free at Last: the Center for Disease Control Ends and Ethical Research Practices Begin
During the forty year Tuskegee Study, the government overstepped its duties and infringed on
innocent African American lives. Researchers in Macon County, Alabama started this study in 1932 in
order to examine the effects of untreated syphilis in African American men. The study began with 399
subjects with the disease and 201 without it; by the time the research was halted in 1972, over one
hundred of the men had died (Jones 2). One government organization involved in this experimentation
acted particularly irrationally: the Center for Disease Control (CDC). The CDC knew ... Show more

government ethics boards. This solution provides no room for community involvement or say in
whether or not these trials should be preformed (Jintarkanon et al., par. 6). While a private
organization would have the option of sending syringes and needles, the CDC keeps all of the decision
making under government control and ignores public opinion. The fact that nongovernmental voices
are left out of the evaluation of the trials leaves more room for corruption and unethical behavior.
In addition to not properly policing unethical research, the CDC also knowingly funds questionable
studies. . It is important to note that the money the CDC puts towards controversial experimentation
comes from American tax dollars. Marcia Angell M.D, the first woman to serve as editor in chief of
the New England Journal of Medicine, describes an example of a CDC sponsored experiment that is
very similar to the Tuskegee Experiment in her editorial, The Ethics of Clinical Research in the Third
World . In 1997, the CDC sponsored a placebo test in third world countries to study HIV positive
pregnant women. At the time, the drug zidovudine was known to be a successful means of preventing
vertical transmission of HIV from infected mothers to their babies. However, the majority of the
women in the study were denied antiretroviral treatment (Angell). Denying these pregnant women
harms both the women and their babies. According to U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun, because of this

Elodea Lab Report
The primary productivity of Elodea in response to different wavelengths of light.
The term production initially means the creation or making of something, for instance organic matter.
However productivity is the rate of growth or biomass increase in plants (or animals). This is increase
of biomass or growth in plants, is generally caused by photosynthesis (6 CO2 + 6 H2O Light Energy
C6 H12 O6 + 6 O2), which converts light energy into chemical energy therefore creating new plant
tissues and new compounds and structures are synthesised and cells division. In order for
photosynthesis to occur, a plant requires sunlight, carbon dioxide and nutrients. Gross productivity is
the total gain of energy or biomass per unit area per unit time. It is the ... Show more content on

Therefore the net productivity is the gain of energy or biomass per area per unit time that remains after
the deduction due to respiration (C6 H12 O6 + 6 O2 Energy + 6 CO2 + 6 H2O). Net primary
productivity and Gross primary productivity are for the measurement of energy of autotrophs,
therefore it is only used for plants and works with this equation: NPP = GPP R, where R is the
respiratory loss (Davis Andrew, and Garrett Naggle). My intentions for this experiment are to measure
the primary productivity in the aquatic ecosystem of a pond and see how it changes with different
wavelengths (colours) of light. Since oxygen is one of the most easily dignified elements of
photosynthesis and respiration, a good way to measure primary productivity is to measure the
dissolved oxygen. It would be easier to work using this method because respiration is occurring
simultaneously with photosynthesis, making it complicated to gauge the primary productivity
(LabBench). I will place water containing microscopic autotrophs and Elodea in a closed system and
measure the O2 generation or depletion per unit time with different light exposures in

Essay An Analysis Of The Jungle By Upton Sinclair
In the early 1900 s life for America s new Chicago immigrant workers in the meat packing industry
was explored by Upton Sinclair s novel The Jungle. Originally published in 1904 as a serial piece in
the socialist newspaper Appeal to Reason, Sinclair s novel was initially found too graphic and
shocking by publishing firms and therefore was not published in its complete form until 1906. In this
paper, I will focus on the challenges faced by a newly immigrated worker and on what I feel Sinclair s
purpose was for this novel. In the early 1900 s a newly arrived immigrant worker faced numerous
challenges that had to be overcome. Often times literally arriving with the clothes on their back and a
few meager dollars, it was crucial for these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While not all of these examples have a direct monetary impact, each of the dealings associated with
them does which in turn motivates the parties involved to make decisions and perform actions outside
the normal scope for their character. The third challenge faced by new immigrants was acquiring and
then keeping steady work. Although the Packingtown in Chicago was in a constant state of activity,
the sheer number of available workers and the rule of supply and demand made it difficult for some to
find work. It was not uncommon for some workers to stand at the plant doors for weeks before being
selected. And once a person was chosen to be a worker, they had to labor at a fever pitch to make sure
they were retained. That being said, the worker s problems did not end once they found steady
employment. Employers were harsh and unforgiving in how they treated their employees. For
example, if an employee was one minute late they were penalized an hours pay. If they were 20
minutes late they forfeited their employment. Worse yet, if they were injured or hurt on the job the
company takes no responsibility and the worker is forced to recuperate on their own time without pay

The Theory Of Attachment Proposed By John Bowlby And Mary...
The lectures, discussions in class, and chapter readings highlighted the importance of one of the
characteristics of human nature, which is relationships and attachment. The course materials
emphasized the critical role of relationship and attachment to the development of the children. The
internship site also provided an opportunity for me to visualize different attachments and relationships
between parent and child in action. As the chapter readings from the textbook explore different
perspectives of relationship and attachment proposed by various theorists, the class discussions and
lectures furthered my understanding and knowledge of parent child relationships.
In chapter 3, the theory of attachment proposed by John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth is explored.
First, Bowlby s theory of attachment was influenced by the ethological theorist, Darwin, Lorenz, and
Tinbergen, who were previously mentioned in the chapter. Bowlby emphasized that behaviors found
in animals, such as seeking close proximity from mothers to reduce the chance of becoming a prey,
can also be found in toddlers. For example, Bowlby defined that actions such as following, crying out,
and clinging found in children are displayed in order to keep close distance to parents is called
attachment behaviors. Bowlby incorporates imprinting and instincts, which are ethological terms, to
explain different phases of attachment. As the child develops through time, the attachment of child and
parent deepens their

Illegal Drugs in the U.S.
The trade and use of illegal drugs in the US and around the world is one of the world s biggest and
most prevalent problems. Illegal drug trade accounts for more than $300 billion a year. The legal,
physical, and mental consequences of drug use easily outweigh the so called high that people receive
from using them. Though current users wouldn t consent to this statement, everyone else including
rehabilitated users would agree. They would also agree that drug use is the easiest and quickest route
to destroying your life. (Gahlinger 75) The most commonly used and most controversial drug is
Cannabis, aka Marijuana. It is the most commonly used drug in the United States, and has been for a
very long time. Its use can be traced back as far ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can be used in many different ways including inhalation of the powder, smoking it, and injecting it
directly into the veins. Cocaine is also one of the more addictive drugs. (Kuhn, Swartzwelder, Wilson
43) Prolonged use of cocaine can cause itching, paranoid delusions, and hallucinations even when the
person is not high . Using cocaine also increases your chances to contract rare diseases such as lupus.
Overdosing raises the user s blood pressure, and can be life threatening. People who use cocaine
regularly develop a tolerance, this increases the amount of cocaine needed to get high . People with a
high tolerance often overdose because of the need for such a large dose. Drug addicts often die from
an overdose because other people with them don t know what to do. (Gahlinger 103) Heroin is one of
the most dangerous and addictive drugs on the planet. It is a manufactured drug which means it made
chemically. There are several risks associated with using heroin as opposed to some other drugs
because heroin is not a natural made drug. People who use heroin have no idea what is actually in the
drug they are about to use because it has passed through so many hands. Drugs are often laced with
something other than what is supposed to be in it. Dealers do this to make there product different from
everyone else s. Sometimes heroin is laced with something and the user dies after his first time. The
effects of taking heroin can be very serious including collapsing of the

Filial Piety In Confucianism In Ancient China
Filial Piety in Confucianism A famous Chinese saying asks, if one does not have piety towards one s
own parents, then how can one be loyal towards one s friends, country, or any other? In ancient China
Confucius taught filial piety as, the reverent respect of children toward their parents. (Ebrey,
Cambridge Illustrated History, p. 43) Confucius taught that duty to one s parents is an integral part of
society because it fit into the larger ethical system that he believed in. As the saying says, how can one
is not loyal to ones parents, how can they be loyal to anything else. Fillial piety was important in
Confucius time because he emphasized its utility in teaching people how to act and behave towards
other family members and society in general. (Filial Piety in Confucian Teachings) Respect for your

It taught children how to act toward parents and other family members in a way that allowed the

is alive, observe his intentions. After he passes away, model yourself on the memory of his behavior. If
in three years after his death you have not yet deviated from your father s ways, then you may be
considered a filial child. (1.11) This passage is the true definition of what filial piety is, observe your

Leaders engage in performing at the workplace that are intended to influence their new employees and

Narcissistic And Cult Leaders Essay
Narcissistic and Cult Leaders Narcissistic Personality Disorder and Cult Leaders
Every day we face and deal with either small or big issues relating to terrorist leaders from inside and
outside of country. During the past decade we have seen North Korean leader, Kim Jung Un, Osama
bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, Fidel Castro of Cuba, Idi Amain of Uganda and more, who have been
described as crazy, cruel, lunatic, madman, psychopath and even worse. How could they acquire all
the power, rule over people and become a leader in a country if they were such a psychopath?
Ironically, they are just as rational as we are. We simply do not have a full understanding of their
personalities, which are unusually different from societal norms and expectation. They are defined as a
personality disorder. There are six personality disorders classified: sadistic, antisocial, paranoid,
narcissistic, schizoid and schizotypal.
Remarkably, most of these cult leaders have been suffering from narcissistic personality disorder,
which brings a dictatorship in social relationship and a fatal negative influential to both oneself and
others. Any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

TA 13: Sec 01 Great Comedies for Theatre
Lysistrata Essay Lysistrata, written by playwright Aristophanes creates a play with an acute political
satire and a comedic mayhem about one woman s remarkable mission to end the Peloponnesian War.
In all, woman, Lysistrata, ends the war is by convincing all wives to withhold all sexual privileges
from their husbands. Thus forcing their husbands to end the war with peace. In this comedic play
many themes are highlighted throughout the scenes. One theme in particular spoke of the
Peloponnesian War and how this war between Athens and Sparta was a senseless waste of lives,
money and energy. As one of the women, Myrrhine, tells Lysistrata that she doesn t know why her
husband is at war or no clue what he s doing; Lysistrata says, ... Show more content on

The women s husbands have invested into the war that hasn t shown any impact. It soon becomes
tedious to both the men and their wives because there seems to be no change. Also with a long
ongoing war, great amounts of money are being used. Lysistrata states, To seize the treasury; no more
money, no more war. The investments that were going into the Peloponnesian war were all by the
treasury. With this quote, Lysistrata implies that she is determined to stop the men and dishonest
officials from stealing the treasury s money. Also when Lysistrata talks with the Magistrate, she tells
him that the women will seize Acropolis and handle administering the money. This shows that the
money the treasury owns is being used senselessly and they want a change for it.
This theme is just one of the many themes that are revealed throughout the play. Lysistrata is a play of
wives who try to make peace of a useless war. The women in the play go through sacrifice and
disagreements towards their husbands to try to stop the warfare and create a greater peace for both city
states

The Video Game Video Games
The first video games appeared in the 1960s.[1] They were played on massive computers connected to
vector displays, not analog televisions. Ralph H. Baer conceived the idea of a home video game in
1951. In the late 1960s, while working for Sanders Associates, Baer created a series of video game
console designs. One of these designs, which gained the nickname of the 1966 Brown Box , featured
changeable game modes and was demonstrated to several TV manufacturers, ultimately leading to an
agreement between Sanders Associates and Magnavox.[2]
In 1972, Magnavox released the Magnavox Odyssey, the first home video game console which could
be connected to a TV set. Ralph Baer s initial design had called for a huge row of switches that would
allow gamers to turn on and off certain components of the console (the Odyssey lacked a CPU) to
create slightly different games like tennis, volleyball, hockey, and chase. Magnavox replaced the
switch design with separate cartridges for each game. Although Baer had sketched up ideas for
cartridges that could include new components for new games, the carts released by Magnavox all
served the same function as the switches and allowed gamers to choose from the Odyssey s built in
games.
The Odyssey only initially sold about 100,000 units,[3] making it moderately successful, and it was
not until Atari s arcade game Pong popularized video games, that the public began to take more notice
of the emerging industry. By autumn 1975, Magnavox, bowing

Ky-Nos Castle Analysis
The Hauntings of Craig Y Nos Castle in Wales
By Claire Barrand
Craig Y Nos Castle which in Welsh, means Rock of the Night, Maintains a reputation as the Most
Haunted Castle in Wales, having been visited by Most Haunted, alongside numerous other TV shows
which have also filmed at the castle. My sister Linzi and I have investigated this location together
twice and have not been disappointed, in fact, we would have to say this location is in our top three for
paranormal activity!
The Early Years
The history itself is epic enough to inspire a Hollywood feature film. The story begins in 1840 when
the neo gothic castle, set beside the River Tawe on the edge of the breathtaking Brecon Beacons, was
built by an ambitious Captain Rice Davies. Using local limestone to form the impressive structure he
got carried away with turrets and pyramids and ran out of money being unable to complete the north
wing before moving in in 1843 to begin his life as a country gentleman.
Davies became a county magistrate and a High Sheriff of Brecknock. However, rumours of a curse on
the family spread as misfortune fell upon the family when his younger son died of cholera in 1851,
and he lost both his wife and his daughter to illness before he died in 1862.
Two years later, his Davies son died in a hunting accident on the Isle of Wight. Sarah, the eldest
daughter, and her husband Captain Allaway lived at the castle after his death, until disaster struck once
more and the Captain also died a few years later. His widow relocated to Tenby, and the property sold
in 1875 76, purchased by the Morgan family of Abercrave for £6000.
The Adelina Patti Years
In 1878, the castle and its setting attracted the attentions of the leading opera star of that day Italian
Adelina Patti, who announced that she had found the home of her dreams and an offer of £3500
accepted for the castle and surrounding parkland.
A demanding soprano with a colourful private life, she was said to have had numerous affairs
including one with the tenor Mario. The prima donna was the at the peak of her spectacular career and
desired to spend the rest of her life at Craig y nos. She built an incredible private theatre which held

Hinduism in American Life Essay
Hinduism in American Life
The English word religion loosely translates into rules in Latin. Therefore, a religion teaches us how
to think, how to act, and basically everything except what to eat in the morning. The Hindu and
Christian religion agree on many things and our society follows some of the rules too because religion
and laws are based on humanity. From holy literature many different ideas have been pawned but they
are all supposed to lead you to the same things: a happy, healthy life, contribution to the world around
us, and some kind of liberation after death. Concerning these ideals the Hindu religion has come up
with three ways to make sure that everybody will get what they want out of life and those are the four

The stage of forest dweller is very much life the family man stage but there are three main differences,
he can retire to a forest, he has no obligation to pay back society or work and he is supposed to spend
time reading the Vedas. After that if he wants to be ultra holy you can detach from life by staging your
own social death and do nothing but pursue salvific knowledge. Many people in The United States
lead a life almost exactly like this. They start off as a student to learn knowledge for jobs and spiritual
journeys later in life. The law requires that we go to school until atleast 16 and most of our parents
require us to go to church. If you do not go to school there are consequences in each religion and to
receive awards you must be first be a student. In our culture today we can live off of the government.
The next stage of life Hindu life is like American life because most of us start families and provide for
them and a lot of us do things for society like working at a research university or donating clothes to
charity. In fact our society rewards charity by giving us tax exemption and Nobel peace prizes for
science achievements and discoveries. The Christian and Jewish religion stress that you must do
things for society to be a better human being. After the family man stage many old people retire and
many people become more religious at this time. If you are religious you get accepted to heaven so
many old people take their

Sigmund Freud s Psycholyncy Stages In My Vignette
In my vignette, the subject is about Susie. Susie lives with her mother, father, older sister and a
newborn baby brother. Susie is 7 years old and is in the second grade, at the parent teacher conference
her math teacher, Mr. Rankin informs her parents of Susie s problematic behavior at school. He
mentions that Susie had thrown a tantrum while using vulgar language upon receiving a bad score on
her exam, complaining about deserving a better grade. When her parents confronted her about this she
claimed that she is actually smart but Mr. Rankin is a horrible teacher. Additionally, Susie explained
that she is behaving this way in her other classes because she feels that none of her teachers like her.
After a few weeks had passed there was a noticeable shift in Susie s behavior, rather than lashing out
when she is angry or overwhelmed Susie bites her nails and chews on her pencil.
Psychologist Sigmund Freud s psychoanalytic theory proposes that our childhood sexuality and
unconscious motivations influence our personality. As we grow we develop in coordinance with Freud
s Psychosexual Stages, where our Id s pleasure seeking energy focuses on distinct erogenous zones.
According to Freud s Stages of Psychosexual Development Susie is in the Latency Stage. The Latency
Stage ranges from the age of 6 to puberty, during this stage individuals are experiencing a phase of
dormant sexual feelings, this means that sexual feelings are present but are not yet developing at this
stage. Freud

Analysis Of The Boy In The Striped Pajamas
They say that ignorance is bliss. That is somewhat true, as not understanding the atrocities in our
world would surely make a happier person. However, innocence can also lead to calamity. The Boy in
the Striped Pajamas, by John Boyne, is a coming of age story about Bruno, the son of a Nazi
Commandant under Adolf Hitler. Bruno was initially very ignorant of what was happening in the
world and was very immature about moving from Berlin. As the days went by, he got used to his new
home and his thoughts were maturing, as he started thinking with logic and rationale. Bruno finally
understands that he has to be a good person to everyone regardless what others might think. His
character has strongly developed. Despite Bruno being unaware of his situation and his father being a
Nazi, he matures from being childish and unsatisfied for moving to finally finding purpose in life by
being a good human being.
Bruno, initially, has ignorance about everything going on in his life. For example, his dissatisfaction
with leaving Berlin is demonstrated in many parts of the story. He is shown to the reader as being
innocent, immature, and unable to give things a chance. On many occasions, Bruno complains about
moving to Out With (Auschwitz). He continually complains before even giving himself a chance to
experience it. He was whining and being stubborn. To illustrate, in the novel, the author says, Nothing,
thought Bruno, not even the insects, would ever choose to stay at Out With.

John Steinbeck s Of Mice and Men Essay
John Steinbeck s Of mice and men Of Mice and Men is set along the Salinas River a few miles south
of Soledad in the fallen world of the Salinas Valley, which Steinbeck places east of Eden the Promised
Land is only a painful and illusory dream. This land is populated by sons of Cain , men doomed to
walk alone. One of the major themes that comes from this is loneliness, or fear of apartness. One of
the themes of Of Mice and Men is that men fear loneliness, that they need someone to be with and to
talk to who will offer understanding and companionship. Soledad is a Spanish word and translates into
English as solitude or loneliness. This country is one of such loneliness that George and Lennie stand

It is impossible to live where they are so the safe place becomes a little home. Steinbeck is not only
able to dramatize Lennie s desire for the safe place through his love for the rabbits, but he is also able
to define on a low level of consciousness that desire the most important aspect of their plans for
Lennie is the attraction to soft, warm fur. This transfer from the farm to the rabbits is also important
because it makes possible the theme of action. The dead mouse which Lennie carries in his pocket in
the first chapter introduces this. As George talks about Lennie s attraction to mice, it becomes clear
that the rabbits will come to the same end crushed by Lennie s simple, uncontrollable strength. The
readers see a pattern after they read about how Lennie killed the mouse and the puppy. Also, George s
story that he tells twice about the girl with the red dress and the crushing of Curley s hand, the
shooting of Candy s dog, and the frequent appearances of Curley s wife contribute to this expectancy
of patterns. All of these incidents are patterns of the theme of action and predict the fate of the rabbits
and thus the fate of the dream of the safe place. Lennie asks George, Tell me like you done before, He
repeated his words rhythmically, as though he had said them many times before. It is shown that even
Lennie has heard it by his repeating the exact language. An

Meanwhile, the segregation of jobs by gender and other factors affect pay equity. A term used back in
the 1980 s as a metaphor for the invisible and artificial barriers that blocked women and minorities
from advancing up the corporate ladder to management and executive positions is called the glass

technology officially filtered itself in to main stream Hollywood. Digital film technology is the latest
and probably most revolutionizing new technology to hit Hollywood. The use of digital film allows
for infinite editing capabilities and endless benefits to distribution and special effects. The use of
digital film allows for producers to add in extras, produce stunts, and even create false people with the
click of a mouse. Time and cost consuming stunts, stunt doubles, and actors may no longer be a
worthy concern to producers and their budgets. Though the growing ... Show more content on

Directors and producers are allowed to let their imaginations run wild. This ease of use attracts
filmmakers to convert to a digital format. The skill and cost of technology which goes into creating
these effects, in return creates jobs for others.
Digital film not only enhances effects, but its special effects capabilities are so great, that it is also
beginning to replace people. For example, in Titanic, released in the winter of 1997/1998, false people
are created to enhance the reality and excitement of the scene. The movie shows a scene which the
ship tilts completely vertical. Passengers of the ship slide into the water, and fall from the rails of the
enormous ship. These passengers add drama and reality to the scene. The passengers vividly dictate
the harshness of the situation. Though these unfortunate passengers add a wealth of reality to the
scene, they are not even real people. Creating this scene on a standard film format with stunt doubles,
would have been difficult and time consuming. They were instead created with digital film
technology. Digital film technology erased the need for stunt doubles. Though real people were not
employed to be these characters, jobs behind the scenes were instead utilized. Creators of the digital
passengers were employed directly, and indirectly, business and jobs were harvested from the digital
equipment used. Even though physical people were

Bad Blood By Lorna Sage
The conflicts that arise during our childhood are especially important for personality development.
Although most of these experiences have an irreversible effect on us, we still tend to forget these
precious memories, as they are simply too embarrassing and painful to remember. In the extract from
Bad blood by Lorna Sage, the author shows how the incident on the school playground has impacted
her as an adult and her own personality. Lorna Sage highlights the hardships and challenges of
childhood and their importance in future life. The author has displayed this theme throughout the text
by using interesting characters, a unique setting, figurative language and an occasional tone.
In the text, the narrator introduces two characters: Herself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author has described the happenings in great detail and has created a vivid picture in the reader´s
mind. Gail was described very precisely by the author, noting down almost every single detail she had:
Gail had hair in ringlets, green hazel eyes and pale, clear, slightly olive skin stretched tight and shiny
over her muscle, and she was nearly a year older than I was. The reader can form a vivid picture of
Gail´s appearance and senses how different Gail is from the narrator and the rest of the girls.
Metaphors were used when describing the relationship between Gail and the narrator: She d have won
our war in any case ...... This show how violence and bullying in school are seen as wars in the eyes of
children. This is how serious than what the adults think it would be, who have most likely forgotten
their own experiences with these issues while they were children. These were the feeling of the
narrator after the situation: ...... so that she made me feel like an unstrung puppet. Gail had a huge
influence on the narrator and made her feel that she was worthless. This again shows that people with
greater power an easily bully a person who is weaker than she

Cause And Effects Of The Congo Crisis
The DRC has experienced a long history of political and economic subjugation. The colonial rule
under Belgium was marked with extensive violence and extreme exploitation of resources. This
created a situation in which few Congolese had higher education or the necessary skills to run a
modern government or an effective economy. Furthermore, the Congo s traditional socioeconomic
structures were disrupted long before the end of the colonial era. After the country finally gained
independence, the state was unable to maintain political or economic stability. Independence In 1960,
the Congo gained independence from Belgium under a nationalist government headed by Patrice
Lumumba and Joseph Kasa Vubu. Their dedication to Congolese nationalism was not shared
nationwide however, and shortly after the new government was formed, army garrisons in Katanga
and South Kasai rebelled. The resulting conflict, known as the Congo Crisis, would become
particularly notable for the heavy military intervention of the United Nations and Belgium, as well as
financial backing from the United States and the Soviet Union. The fear and confusion surrounding
the unrest soon resulted in the deposition of Lumumba during a military coup d etat by Colonel Joseph
Mobutu. After being imprisoned by Mobutu and Kasa Vubu, Lumumba was later turned over to the
rebel Katangan authorities and executed in 1961. By 1963, the Katangan separatists had largely been
defeated by UN troops. The government was reformed

Dramatic Irony In A Midsummer Night s Dream
ne classic way to create comedy is through dramatic irony. Irony takes place when words, actions, or
plot development contradict what is intended or expected to happen. This element occurs when a
reader or viewer knows more about a character s current situation than the character does. Dramatic
irony is utilised throughout A Midsummer Night s Dream and parts of Modern Family . This comedic
convention especially relates to how the audience perceives the four lovers circumstances in A
Midsummer Night s Dream . Throughout the entire play, the audience knows why the four lovers are
in conflict and confused, but the lovers have no idea of what is happening to them. For instance

The Conflict Between France And Germany During The Franco War
Prussian Franco War
According to the video Prussian Franco War it shows the conflict between France and Germany in the
Franco War (1870 1871). This war began after the alliance between German states caused by Prussian
overthrowing France. The Prussia chancellor Otto Von Bismarck sent a telegram to William I, who
was a Prussian king. It stated that France insulted Prussia. However, it was a dishonest version of
Bismarck to unify Germany nations. France declared the war on Prussia and this was a tactic of
Bismarck to unify German states with Prussia and the new German Empire started. The unification of
Germany demonstrated the nationalism between these countries. The negative reaction of France led
to the ruins of Paris, the high human cost and a big revolution between these nations. France lost the
control over the entire Europe. Prussia became the leading country in the German imperial and it
dominated the entire Europe. According to the encyclopedia Britannica, nationalism is a movement in
history when people have established territorial authorities....The strong belief that the interests of a
particular nation state are of primary importance. Also, it is the belief that a people who share a
common language, history, and culture should constitute an independent nation, free of foreign
domination . Germany s unification with Prussia demonstrated nationalism. Nationalism influenced by
Napoleon III through Europe was turning against France. Nationalism was also influenced

Examples Of Moral Philosophy
Moral Philosophy is the rational study of the meaning and justification of moral claims. A moral claim
evaluates the rightness or wrongness of an action or a person s character . For example, stealing is
wrong claims that the act of stealing is wrong, and people should not be dishonest claims a character
trait (i.e. dishonesty) is wrong (Gert and Gert). Descriptively, morality refers to certain codes of
conduct put forward by a society or a group (such as a religion) or accepted by an individual for
his/her own behavior. Normatively, it refers to a code of conduct that, given specified conditions,
would be put forward by all rational persons. ( What Is Moral Philosophy? ).

to such theories. During my research, I came across the article The Nature of Morality and Moral
Theories in which I discovered excerpts of philosophical theories and based on this article, I will
briefly mention significant points of four theories. First and foremost, is the theory of Moral
Subjectivism, which implies that an individual s thoughts and feelings determine moral actions; as
oppose to a set of moral principles. Following, is the theory Ethical Egoism, which states that
determining right and wrong is in accordance with one s self interest. Also, that it is immoral to act
contrary to one s own self interest. Thirdly, some individuals agree that culture determines what
actions are morally right or wrong; and are advocates of Cultural Relativism. Their actions are not
guided by a list of moral rules or universal norms. Next, Virtue Ethics claim that right and wrong are
characterized in terms of acting in accordance with the traditional virtues; making a good person . (

MILTARY SUCCESS
Militaries have been a part of societies for millenniums. Armed forces have been used for the good of
empires, but also for the bad. Many empires have risen to great power through their military but, the
ones in this essay mastered the use of armed forces. Militaries have shaped empires, even in some
cases being a way of live for that society. Even in the beginning of civilizations armies were beginning
to pop up. The use of violence towards other tribes, and groups of people lead to the development of
standing armies. This also led to the establishment of taxation to support food, equipment, and
payment to the soldiers of ever increasing militaries. It is interesting to look into how militaristic
cultures have come up and many cases dominated certain areas. It s fascinating to see why some
empires military have been so successful and won many of battles. In this essay I will talk about three
different empires and how they became successful over time. These three militaristic cultures are all
respected in their own rights. First is the Assyrian Empire. Its military might started around 900b.c.e
on the Tigris river were they would later start a conquest which they controlled most of the Middle
East. Also I will look into Sparta, which the Spartans are considered some of the fiercest warriors to
have lived. Their dominance reached its height around 600b.c.e. In this essay I will also talk about the

The Role Of Hierarchy In The Early Church
As the early church expanded some teaching weren t clear that they were the word of God. One of the
teaching is apostolic succession. Hierarchy is a system or organization in which people or groups are
ranked one above the other according to status or authority. Through hierarchy many beliefs were
passed down the ministry by popes and bishops. Many of these belief include the canon,
eucatist, hierarchies and etc. In order to find out what the was really said back then we must go back to
the early church fathers and read their manuscripts. In Matthew 16:19 Jesus says I will give you the
keys of the kingdom of heaven.Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever

well. Furthermore I would also like to make more categories based on text and the words used in the
dictionary, but firstly the focus is on visual representation. Different changes in the images can be
categorized as well. Based on the personal exploration, I have come to list the following categories: 1.
Gender roles (family roles, occupational stereotypes) 2. Representation of different ethnic groups 3.
Religious references 4. Political reference To start with gender roles I would like to explain a little
more what results the research come up with. Firstly, the typical gender roles in the 1963 edition were
the old , conservative stereotyping of sexes. Probably the most striking example for this can be found
in the kitchen of the rabbit house . In the 1963 edition it is only mother rabbit that is standing at the
stove in the kitchen, stating the stereotypical role of a woman, to do the housework. However, in the
1991 edition the image had been revised. It is not only the household equipment that has been

Following exposure, a developer solution is utilized to remove regions that have (positive resist) or
have not (negative resist) been exposed, leaving the desired pattern on the sample. At this point, it is
possible to deposit a patterned layer of new material on top of the sample, or to etch away exposed
regions of the sample. Both cases are followed by removal of remaining resist, usually through use of

Micromolding in capillaries (MIMIC) and template assisted spin coating are two such methods.
Micromolding in capillaries is capable of producing line or stripe like patterns in perovskite films.43
When solvated precursors are applied to a substrate with a capillary containing mold on top, the
solutions wick through the mold under the influence of capillary action. Upon removal of solvent(s)
and mold, the resulting perovskite film will retain the straight line pattern design of the mold. This
process results in comb like features, with regions of patterned perovskite stripes, separated by void
areas where no perovskite is present. Stripes are connected to each other by a section of uniform
perovskite film, where no mold was present during film growth. A relatively straight forward method
for patterning perovskites, MIMIC is largely limited to simple line geometries. Template assisted spin
coating is a similarly easy patterning technique, and, as such, has limitations in the associated
geometries which it can produce. A recent effort shows the ability to create an inverse opal (IO)
structure in perovskite films through template assisted spin coating.44 In this procedure, a monolayer
of polystyrene microspheres was placed on top of the substrate during spin coating of precursor
solutions. Following perovskite film growth, the polystyrene

Concord and and destroy the colonial military stores that were there. The reason the British were in
Massachusetts in the first place was because the people of Massachusetts were very rebellious and
have had many violent resistances against the British already. The secret orders that Gage issued were

John Bateman, a British soldier who was captured by the colonists said that he heard a command to
fire given to the Regulars, and that none of the colonists fired at the Regulars(3). This completely goes
against the British evidence which clearly says that they did not give the command to fire and were
giving orders to not fire. Also, since he was captured by the colonists, he obviously wants to say
something that pleases them since they are his audience. That makes his evidence unreliable since he
could have made that up to please the colonists who had captured him. Next up is Sylvanus Wood who
was a commonwealth of Massachusetts and gave a sworn testimony on June 17, 1826. He Said that
The officer then swung his sword, and said Lay down your arms, you damn d rebels, or you are all

Parker s company had dispersed, and he was at some distance, he gave them the guts of his gun (5).
Wood said that The British ordered their troops to fire, as well as him saying that one of the colonists
did in fact fire against the Regulars. This contradicts the fact that Bateman said that none of the
colonists fired at the Regulars while Wood is saying that at least one colonists did fire upon the
Regulars. It also seems a bit unreliable since Wood s testimony was made almost 50 years later after

Secession 16 By Alfred Roller Essay
Design 1: Secession 16 by Alfred Roller (1902) Heller, S., Ilic, M. (2001). Genius moves: 100 icons of
graphic design (First ed., p. 12). Cincinnati, OH: North Light Books. The design is a poster designed
as a part of the 16th exhibition of the Viennese secession (1902). The design is a poster, laid out in a
narrow vertical format. The title text stands at the top with the s glyphs stretched out to two thirds of
the page length, where they draw the eye to an ornate and densely packed font outlining the names of
those exhibiting, the date and presumably the location. The colours are subtle so as to recede into the
background and allow the solid black of the text to stand out. The pattern in the background consists
of three inverted, uneven pentagons; the inverted form creates an arrow like motion and the implied
movement, aids in drawing the eye toward the bottom of the poster. The process used to create this
image is lithography. In lithography, the stone is not raised as in relief printing, nor incised, as with
intaglio. Rather it is formed on the flat plane of the printing surface. Printing from a flat surface is
called planographic printing. (Meggs Purvis (2012)) German printers spearheaded colour lithography,
and the French printer Godefroy Engelmann (1788 1839) patented a process named
chromolithographie in 1837. After analysing the colours contained within the original image, the
printer separated them into a series of printing plates and printed these

Good Leadership Skills
Leadership We see leaders around us everywhere. Regardless of what the profession or expertise is, or
what sort of an institution there is, leaders are required. There are many leadership characteristics that
come into play. In other words, not everyone has what it takes to be a good leader. Surely, in school all
of us are taught things like team work and good leadership skills, leadership itself falls under a huge
category. There are many models of leadership present that serve to analyze and assess how much of
the leadership qualities a person has in them. Leadership changes are also seen in many schools as
well. There is a change in not only roles, but alterations are noted in relationship and responsibilities.
There is change in not only the roles, but the responsibilities and the relations are effected is well. It is
seen that in this form of leadership, there is less tendency of hierarchical within an organization.
Servant leadership is basically a set of leadership practices and the philosophies regarding leadership.
Surely most of us know what leadership really is. Leadership is seen simply as the accusation and

of leadership that we all know and love. Where on one hand there is the conventional form of

  • 2. Tuskagee Study Elizabeth Reynolds Writing 5 Essay One Assignment: The Tuskegee Study Free at Last: the Center for Disease Control Ends and Ethical Research Practices Begin During the forty year Tuskegee Study, the government overstepped its duties and infringed on innocent African American lives. Researchers in Macon County, Alabama started this study in 1932 in order to examine the effects of untreated syphilis in African American men. The study began with 399 subjects with the disease and 201 without it; by the time the research was halted in 1972, over one hundred of the men had died (Jones 2). One government organization involved in this experimentation acted particularly irrationally: the Center for Disease Control (CDC). The CDC knew ... This solution provides no room for community involvement or say in whether or not these trials should be preformed (Jintarkanon et al., par. 6). While a private organization would have the option of sending syringes and needles, the CDC keeps all of the decision making under government control and ignores public opinion. The fact that nongovernmental voices are left out of the evaluation of the trials leaves more room for corruption and unethical behavior. In addition to not properly policing unethical research, the CDC also knowingly funds questionable studies. . It is important to note that the money the CDC puts towards controversial experimentation comes from American tax dollars. Marcia Angell M.D, the first woman to serve as editor in chief of the New England Journal of Medicine, describes an example of a CDC sponsored experiment that is very similar to the Tuskegee Experiment in her editorial, The Ethics of Clinical Research in the Third World . In 1997, the CDC sponsored a placebo test in third world countries to study HIV positive pregnant women. At the time, the drug zidovudine was known to be a successful means of preventing vertical transmission of HIV from infected mothers to their babies. However, the majority of the women in the study were denied antiretroviral treatment (Angell). Denying these pregnant women harms both the women and their babies. According to U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun, because of this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Elodea Lab Report The primary productivity of Elodea in response to different wavelengths of light. The term production initially means the creation or making of something, for instance organic matter. However productivity is the rate of growth or biomass increase in plants (or animals). This is increase of biomass or growth in plants, is generally caused by photosynthesis (6 CO2 + 6 H2O Light Energy C6 H12 O6 + 6 O2), which converts light energy into chemical energy therefore creating new plant tissues and new compounds and structures are synthesised and cells division. In order for photosynthesis to occur, a plant requires sunlight, carbon dioxide and nutrients. Gross productivity is the total gain of energy or biomass per unit area per unit time. It is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore the net productivity is the gain of energy or biomass per area per unit time that remains after the deduction due to respiration (C6 H12 O6 + 6 O2 Energy + 6 CO2 + 6 H2O). Net primary productivity and Gross primary productivity are for the measurement of energy of autotrophs, therefore it is only used for plants and works with this equation: NPP = GPP R, where R is the respiratory loss (Davis Andrew, and Garrett Naggle). My intentions for this experiment are to measure the primary productivity in the aquatic ecosystem of a pond and see how it changes with different wavelengths (colours) of light. Since oxygen is one of the most easily dignified elements of photosynthesis and respiration, a good way to measure primary productivity is to measure the dissolved oxygen. It would be easier to work using this method because respiration is occurring simultaneously with photosynthesis, making it complicated to gauge the primary productivity (LabBench). I will place water containing microscopic autotrophs and Elodea in a closed system and measure the O2 generation or depletion per unit time with different light exposures in ... • 4. Essay An Analysis Of The Jungle By Upton Sinclair In the early 1900 s life for America s new Chicago immigrant workers in the meat packing industry was explored by Upton Sinclair s novel The Jungle. Originally published in 1904 as a serial piece in the socialist newspaper Appeal to Reason, Sinclair s novel was initially found too graphic and shocking by publishing firms and therefore was not published in its complete form until 1906. In this paper, I will focus on the challenges faced by a newly immigrated worker and on what I feel Sinclair s purpose was for this novel. In the early 1900 s a newly arrived immigrant worker faced numerous challenges that had to be overcome. Often times literally arriving with the clothes on their back and a few meager dollars, it was crucial for these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While not all of these examples have a direct monetary impact, each of the dealings associated with them does which in turn motivates the parties involved to make decisions and perform actions outside the normal scope for their character. The third challenge faced by new immigrants was acquiring and then keeping steady work. Although the Packingtown in Chicago was in a constant state of activity, the sheer number of available workers and the rule of supply and demand made it difficult for some to find work. It was not uncommon for some workers to stand at the plant doors for weeks before being selected. And once a person was chosen to be a worker, they had to labor at a fever pitch to make sure they were retained. That being said, the worker s problems did not end once they found steady employment. Employers were harsh and unforgiving in how they treated their employees. For example, if an employee was one minute late they were penalized an hours pay. If they were 20 minutes late they forfeited their employment. Worse yet, if they were injured or hurt on the job the company takes no responsibility and the worker is forced to recuperate on their own time without pay ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Theory Of Attachment Proposed By John Bowlby And Mary... The lectures, discussions in class, and chapter readings highlighted the importance of one of the characteristics of human nature, which is relationships and attachment. The course materials emphasized the critical role of relationship and attachment to the development of the children. The internship site also provided an opportunity for me to visualize different attachments and relationships between parent and child in action. As the chapter readings from the textbook explore different perspectives of relationship and attachment proposed by various theorists, the class discussions and lectures furthered my understanding and knowledge of parent child relationships. In chapter 3, the theory of attachment proposed by John Bowlby and Mary Ainsworth is explored. First, Bowlby s theory of attachment was influenced by the ethological theorist, Darwin, Lorenz, and Tinbergen, who were previously mentioned in the chapter. Bowlby emphasized that behaviors found in animals, such as seeking close proximity from mothers to reduce the chance of becoming a prey, can also be found in toddlers. For example, Bowlby defined that actions such as following, crying out, and clinging found in children are displayed in order to keep close distance to parents is called attachment behaviors. Bowlby incorporates imprinting and instincts, which are ethological terms, to explain different phases of attachment. As the child develops through time, the attachment of child and parent deepens their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Illegal drug trade accounts for more than $300 billion a year. The legal, physical, and mental consequences of drug use easily outweigh the so called high that people receive from using them. Though current users wouldn t consent to this statement, everyone else including rehabilitated users would agree. They would also agree that drug use is the easiest and quickest route to destroying your life. (Gahlinger 75) The most commonly used and most controversial drug is Cannabis, aka Marijuana. It can be used in many different ways including inhalation of the powder, smoking it, and injecting it directly into the veins. Cocaine is also one of the more addictive drugs. (Kuhn, Swartzwelder, Wilson 43) Prolonged use of cocaine can cause itching, paranoid delusions, and hallucinations even when the person is not high . Using cocaine also increases your chances to contract rare diseases such as lupus. Overdosing raises the user s blood pressure, and can be life threatening. People who use cocaine regularly develop a tolerance, this increases the amount of cocaine needed to get high . People with a high tolerance often overdose because of the need for such a large dose. Drug addicts often die from an overdose because other people with them don t know what to do. (Gahlinger 103) Heroin is one of the most dangerous and addictive drugs on the planet. It is a manufactured drug which means it made chemically. There are several risks associated with using heroin as opposed to some other drugs because heroin is not a natural made drug. People who use heroin have no idea what is actually in the drug they are about to use because it has passed through so many hands. • 7. Filial Piety In Confucianism In Ancient China Filial Piety in Confucianism A famous Chinese saying asks, if one does not have piety towards one s own parents, then how can one be loyal towards one s friends, country, or any other? In ancient China Confucius taught filial piety as, the reverent respect of children toward their parents. (Ebrey, Cambridge Illustrated History, p. 43) Confucius taught that duty to one s parents is an integral part of society because it fit into the larger ethical system that he believed in. As the saying says, how can one is not loyal to ones parents, how can they be loyal to anything else. During the past decade we have seen North Korean leader, Kim Jung Un, Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, Fidel Castro of Cuba, Idi Amain of Uganda and more, who have been described as crazy, cruel, lunatic, madman, psychopath and even worse. How could they acquire all the power, rule over people and become a leader in a country if they were such a psychopath? Ironically, they are just as rational as we are. We simply do not have a full understanding of their personalities, which are unusually different from societal norms and expectation. They are defined as a personality disorder. There are six personality disorders classified: sadistic, antisocial, paranoid, narcissistic, schizoid and schizotypal. Lysistrata Themes Amanda Phakonekham September 15, 2015 Kathleen Normington TA 13: Sec 01 Great Comedies for Theatre Lysistrata Essay Lysistrata, written by playwright Aristophanes creates a play with an acute political satire and a comedic mayhem about one woman s remarkable mission to end the Peloponnesian War. In all, woman, Lysistrata, ends the war is by convincing all wives to withhold all sexual privileges from their husbands. Thus forcing their husbands to end the war with peace. In this comedic play many themes are highlighted throughout the scenes. One theme in particular spoke of the Peloponnesian War and how this war between Athens and Sparta was a senseless waste of lives, money and energy. The women s husbands have invested into the war that hasn t shown any impact. It soon becomes tedious to both the men and their wives because there seems to be no change. Also with a long ongoing war, great amounts of money are being used. Lysistrata states, To seize the treasury; no more money, no more war. The investments that were going into the Peloponnesian war were all by the treasury. With this quote, Lysistrata implies that she is determined to stop the men and dishonest officials from stealing the treasury s money. Also when Lysistrata talks with the Magistrate, she tells him that the women will seize Acropolis and handle administering the money. This shows that the money the treasury owns is being used senselessly and they want a change for it. This theme is just one of the many themes that are revealed throughout the play. • 11. The Video Game Video Games The first video games appeared in the 1960s.[1] They were played on massive computers connected to vector displays, not analog televisions. Ralph H. Baer conceived the idea of a home video game in 1951. In the late 1960s, while working for Sanders Associates, Baer created a series of video game console designs. One of these designs, which gained the nickname of the 1966 Brown Box , featured changeable game modes and was demonstrated to several TV manufacturers, ultimately leading to an agreement between Sanders Associates and Magnavox.[2] In 1972, Magnavox released the Magnavox Odyssey, the first home video game console which could be connected to a TV set. Ralph Baer s initial design had called for a huge row of switches that would allow gamers to turn on and off certain components of the console (the Odyssey lacked a CPU) to create slightly different games like tennis, volleyball, hockey, and chase. Magnavox replaced the switch design with separate cartridges for each game. Although Baer had sketched up ideas for cartridges that could include new components for new games, the carts released by Magnavox all served the same function as the switches and allowed gamers to choose from the Odyssey s built in games. The Odyssey only initially sold about 100,000 units,[3] making it moderately successful, and it was not until Atari s arcade game Pong popularized video games, that the public began to take more notice of the emerging industry. Ky-Nos Castle Analysis The Hauntings of Craig Y Nos Castle in Wales By Claire Barrand Craig Y Nos Castle which in Welsh, means Rock of the Night, Maintains a reputation as the Most Haunted Castle in Wales, having been visited by Most Haunted, alongside numerous other TV shows which have also filmed at the castle. My sister Linzi and I have investigated this location together twice and have not been disappointed, in fact, we would have to say this location is in our top three for paranormal activity! The Early Years The history itself is epic enough to inspire a Hollywood feature film. The story begins in 1840 when the neo gothic castle, set beside the River Tawe on the edge of the breathtaking Brecon Beacons, was built by an ambitious Captain Rice Davies. Using local limestone to form the impressive structure he got carried away with turrets and pyramids and ran out of money being unable to complete the north wing before moving in in 1843 to begin his life as a country gentleman. Davies became a county magistrate and a High Sheriff of Brecknock. However, rumours of a curse on the family spread as misfortune fell upon the family when his younger son died of cholera in 1851, and he lost both his wife and his daughter to illness before he died in 1862. Two years later, his Davies son died in a hunting accident on the Isle of Wight. Sarah, the eldest daughter, and her husband Captain Allaway lived at the castle after his death, until disaster struck once more and the Captain also died a few years later. His widow relocated to Tenby, and the property sold in 1875 76, purchased by the Morgan family of Abercrave for £6000. The Adelina Patti Years In 1878, the castle and its setting attracted the attentions of the leading opera star of that day Italian Adelina Patti, who announced that she had found the home of her dreams and an offer of £3500 accepted for the castle and surrounding parkland. A demanding soprano with a colourful private life, she was said to have had numerous affairs including one with the tenor Mario. Therefore, a religion teaches us how to think, how to act, and basically everything except what to eat in the morning. The Hindu and Christian religion agree on many things and our society follows some of the rules too because religion and laws are based on humanity. From holy literature many different ideas have been pawned but they are all supposed to lead you to the same things: a happy, healthy life, contribution to the world around us, and some kind of liberation after death. Concerning these ideals the Hindu religion has come up with three ways to make sure that everybody will get what they want out of life and those are the four ... The stage of forest dweller is very much life the family man stage but there are three main differences, he can retire to a forest, he has no obligation to pay back society or work and he is supposed to spend time reading the Vedas. After that if he wants to be ultra holy you can detach from life by staging your own social death and do nothing but pursue salvific knowledge. Many people in The United States lead a life almost exactly like this. They start off as a student to learn knowledge for jobs and spiritual journeys later in life. The law requires that we go to school until atleast 16 and most of our parents require us to go to church. If you do not go to school there are consequences in each religion and to receive awards you must be first be a student. In our culture today we can live off of the government. The next stage of life Hindu life is like American life because most of us start families and provide for them and a lot of us do things for society like working at a research university or donating clothes to charity. Susie is 7 years old and is in the second grade, at the parent teacher conference her math teacher, Mr. Rankin informs her parents of Susie s problematic behavior at school. He mentions that Susie had thrown a tantrum while using vulgar language upon receiving a bad score on her exam, complaining about deserving a better grade. When her parents confronted her about this she claimed that she is actually smart but Mr. Rankin is a horrible teacher. Additionally, Susie explained that she is behaving this way in her other classes because she feels that none of her teachers like her. After a few weeks had passed there was a noticeable shift in Susie s behavior, rather than lashing out when she is angry or overwhelmed Susie bites her nails and chews on her pencil. Psychologist Sigmund Freud s psychoanalytic theory proposes that our childhood sexuality and unconscious motivations influence our personality. As we grow we develop in coordinance with Freud s Psychosexual Stages, where our Id s pleasure seeking energy focuses on distinct erogenous zones. • 16. Analysis Of The Boy In The Striped Pajamas They say that ignorance is bliss. That is somewhat true, as not understanding the atrocities in our world would surely make a happier person. However, innocence can also lead to calamity. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, by John Boyne, is a coming of age story about Bruno, the son of a Nazi Commandant under Adolf Hitler. Bruno was initially very ignorant of what was happening in the world and was very immature about moving from Berlin. As the days went by, he got used to his new home and his thoughts were maturing, as he started thinking with logic and rationale. Bruno finally understands that he has to be a good person to everyone regardless what others might think. His character has strongly developed. Despite Bruno being unaware of his situation and his father being a Nazi, he matures from being childish and unsatisfied for moving to finally finding purpose in life by being a good human being. Bruno, initially, has ignorance about everything going on in his life. For example, his dissatisfaction with leaving Berlin is demonstrated in many parts of the story. He is shown to the reader as being innocent, immature, and unable to give things a chance. On many occasions, Bruno complains about moving to Out With (Auschwitz). He continually complains before even giving himself a chance to experience it. He was whining and being stubborn. To illustrate, in the novel, the author says, Nothing, thought Bruno, not even the insects, would ever choose to stay at Out With. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

John Steinbeck s Of Mice and Men Essay John Steinbeck s Of mice and men Of Mice and Men is set along the Salinas River a few miles south of Soledad in the fallen world of the Salinas Valley, which Steinbeck places east of Eden the Promised Land is only a painful and illusory dream. This land is populated by sons of Cain , men doomed to walk alone. One of the major themes that comes from this is loneliness, or fear of apartness. One of the themes of Of Mice and Men is that men fear loneliness, that they need someone to be with and to talk to who will offer understanding and companionship. Steinbeck is not only able to dramatize Lennie s desire for the safe place through his love for the rabbits, but he is also able to define on a low level of consciousness that desire the most important aspect of their plans for Lennie is the attraction to soft, warm fur. This transfer from the farm to the rabbits is also important because it makes possible the theme of action. The dead mouse which Lennie carries in his pocket in the first chapter introduces this. As George talks about Lennie s attraction to mice, it becomes clear that the rabbits will come to the same end crushed by Lennie s simple, uncontrollable strength. The readers see a pattern after they read about how Lennie killed the mouse and the puppy. Also, George s story that he tells twice about the girl with the red dress and the crushing of Curley s hand, the shooting of Candy s dog, and the frequent appearances of Curley s wife contribute to this expectancy of patterns. All of these incidents are patterns of the theme of action and predict the fate of the rabbits and thus the fate of the dream of the safe place. Lennie asks George, Tell me like you done before, He repeated his words rhythmically, as though he had said them many times before. It is shown that even Lennie has heard it by his repeating the exact language. An ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, in Titanic, released in the winter of 1997/1998, false people are created to enhance the reality and excitement of the scene. The movie shows a scene which the ship tilts completely vertical. Passengers of the ship slide into the water, and fall from the rails of the enormous ship. Though these unfortunate passengers add a wealth of reality to the scene, they are not even real people. Creating this scene on a standard film format with stunt doubles, would have been difficult and time consuming. They were instead created with digital film technology. Digital film technology erased the need for stunt doubles. Though real people were not employed to be these characters, jobs behind the scenes were instead utilized. Creators of the digital passengers were employed directly, and indirectly, business and jobs were harvested from the digital equipment used. Even though physical people were ... Furthermore, the Congo s traditional socioeconomic structures were disrupted long before the end of the colonial era. After the country finally gained independence, the state was unable to maintain political or economic stability. Their dedication to Congolese nationalism was not shared nationwide however, and shortly after the new government was formed, army garrisons in Katanga and South Kasai rebelled. The resulting conflict, known as the Congo Crisis, would become particularly notable for the heavy military intervention of the United Nations and Belgium, as well as financial backing from the United States and the Soviet Union. The fear and confusion surrounding the unrest soon resulted in the deposition of Lumumba during a military coup d etat by Colonel Joseph Mobutu. Armed forces have been used for the good of empires, but also for the bad. Many empires have risen to great power through their military but, the ones in this essay mastered the use of armed forces. Militaries have shaped empires, even in some cases being a way of live for that society. Even in the beginning of civilizations armies were beginning to pop up. The use of violence towards other tribes, and groups of people lead to the development of standing armies. This also led to the establishment of taxation to support food, equipment, and payment to the soldiers of ever increasing militaries. It is interesting to look into how militaristic cultures have come up and many cases dominated certain areas. It s fascinating to see why some empires military have been so successful and won many of battles. In this essay I will talk about three different empires and how they became successful over time. These three militaristic cultures are all respected in their own rights. First is the Assyrian Empire. Its military might started around 900b.c.e on the Tigris river were they would later start a conquest which they controlled most of the Middle East. Micromolding in capillaries is capable of producing line or stripe like patterns in perovskite films.43 When solvated precursors are applied to a substrate with a capillary containing mold on top, the solutions wick through the mold under the influence of capillary action. Upon removal of solvent(s) and mold, the resulting perovskite film will retain the straight line pattern design of the mold. This process results in comb like features, with regions of patterned perovskite stripes, separated by void areas where no perovskite is present. Stripes are connected to each other by a section of uniform perovskite film, where no mold was present during film growth. A relatively straight forward method for patterning perovskites, MIMIC is largely limited to simple line geometries. Template assisted spin coating is a similarly easy patterning technique, and, as such, has limitations in the associated geometries which it can produce. A recent effort shows the ability to create an inverse opal (IO) structure in perovskite films through template assisted spin coating.44 In this procedure, a monolayer of polystyrene microspheres was placed on top of the substrate during spin coating of precursor solutions. Also, since he was captured by the colonists, he obviously wants to say something that pleases them since they are his audience. Cincinnati, OH: North Light Books. The design is a poster designed as a part of the 16th exhibition of the Viennese secession (1902). The design is a poster, laid out in a narrow vertical format. The title text stands at the top with the s glyphs stretched out to two thirds of the page length, where they draw the eye to an ornate and densely packed font outlining the names of those exhibiting, the date and presumably the location. The colours are subtle so as to recede into the background and allow the solid black of the text to stand out. The pattern in the background consists of three inverted, uneven pentagons; the inverted form creates an arrow like motion and the implied movement, aids in drawing the eye toward the bottom of the poster.
