Best Practices For Managing Parent Concerns Essay
In recent years, it is now customary for professionals who work in higher education to have interesting
stories about their interactions with parents. In Lynette S. Merriman s book, Best Practices for
Managing Parent Concerns: A Mixed Methods Study of Student Affairs Practice at Doctoral Research
Institutions, she uses the 2006 national survey of student affairs professionals to discover that 93% of
respondents recorded that their interactions with parents had increased in the most recent five years of
research (105; ch. 7). Not only have higher education professionals seen increased parental
interactions with administrators, but also with students. In 2007, the organization College Parents of
America surveyed parents and found that 34% of respondents reported that they communicated with
their children either daily, or more than once a day ( National Parent Survey ). Increased parental
involvement is driving colleges and universities to examine the advantages and disadvantages of
having parents as a more significant influence on collegiate processes. The frequency and medium of
communication between parents, students, and administrators is a specific interest. Much of the
increased involvement originates from the prevalence of technology such as cell phones and e mail,
parents are able to talk to their students daily, receiving immediate updates happenings with classes,
extra curricular activities, friends, and roommates. In College Parents of America s survey, 90% of

Why Do Immigrants Take American Jobs
Immigration has been a widely controversial topic for most Americans. Many Americans claim that
immigrants take American jobs right under our noses. The notion that immigrants take American jobs,
is a huge misconception. In Aviva Chomsky s novel, They Take Our Jobs! and 20 other myths about
immigration, explores different ideas on why many Americans believe that immigration is a big threat
to the current American job market. To battle these tropes, Chomsky states facts and backs her claims
with many examples to amply prove that Immigration is not a major factor to the loss of jobs. Though
many Americans will continue to blame immigrants, mainly because they are legally deprived of
many of the rights U.S. citizens get. It s an easy scapegoat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The catch is, the jobs that are available aren t always the most highest paid jobs that people want to
do. It s certainly not enough to support families, but immigrants and some poor Americans will still
work those jobs, because it s the only thing they are able to do. They settle for lousy jobs, and embrace
the low wages. But even if population continues to grow, it s not guaranteed that job s will continue to
keep flourishing if the community isn t well. Job s that affect the community are local jobs, which
help out the community because the money they make goes towards the community. But most jobs
rely on the global market to stay afloat in the economy. And typically, the jobs that rely on the global
market instead of the local market, aren t able to support the local communities which can keep local
communities stagnant. The more support that goes into the global businesses, leads local businesses to
often close, which follows more job losses. The more job losses there are in the community, the more
people will leave the community to find a different one with actual jobs. It s a continuous

The Use Of Motifs In The Bean Trees
Written by Barbara Kingsolver, The Bean Trees contains characters who demonstrate how living
creatures are able to find methods of growing and transforming, despite unusual arrangements or
lifestyle. Throughout the novel, in the chapters The One to Get Away and Dream Angels the use of
motifs are greatly emphasized. Rebirth is one of the two important motifs, as the pattern of life and
death is repeated in the novel. Frequently, this theme is connected with dualities: when one member of
a pair passes, the other gains life force. Newt Hardbine represents as some sort of double for Taylor, in
the chapter The One to Get Away . For example, in school, people could barely tell them different
from each other, and their lives appeared to move ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The dried up seed that, once buried, becomes a living thing, symbolizes her own life experience. For
instance, the night blooming cereus that Edna Poppy brings, which appears up on page 240, to Taylor
and Lou Ann before Taylor makes her trip to Oklahoma serves as an indicator, representing the
transient quality to the characters chances. The wisteria vines speak to the cooperative connections
that predominant the novel, and most importantly, the development of bean trees speaks to the
development of Turtle Greer and her development all through the novel. Bean, (128) Turtle s first
word, symbolizes the guarantee that, similar to a dried up seed that grows, an emotionally or
physically wounded woman may flourish if sufficiently given consideration. The bean trees, another
name for the wisteria vine that Turtle spots in Dog Doo Park, symbolize change, a spot of life amidst
infertility. The bean trees have a cooperative association with bugs called rhizobia, which climb up
and down the wisteria vine s roots and give a system that transfer nutrients. This mutual aid
symbolizes the assistance and adoration individuals give each other. The bean trees, similar to
individuals, thrive with a system of support. Taylor s interest with seeds and vegetables is also an
example of of the cycle of eternal rest and new

The Effects Of Concussion Within Ks3 Rugby And Discuss The...
Introduction
Within this assignment I will be exploring the influence of concussion within KS3 rugby and discuss
the signs and symptoms it has on young athletes and the impact it has on their return to physical
activity.
Understanding concussion
Before we can recognize the symptoms, we must first understand what concussion actually is. Minor
traumatic brain injury (Mtbi) is the medical term used when there is a sudden onset but brief loss of
cognitive function that occurs after a blow or other moderate trauma to the head that jars or shakes the
brain inside the skull. Normally, the fluid around the brain acts like a layer of protection that keeps
your brain from knocking into your skull. However, with moderate force, the brain can hit the cranial/
mandible and become injured. Signs and Symptoms
The signs and symptoms of a concussion can be very evident or it can subtle and may not be
immediately apparent. Depending on the severity, Symptoms can last for days, weeks or even longer.
Common symptoms after an Mtbi are headache, loss of memory (amnesia) and confusion. The
amnesia, which may or may not follow a loss of consciousness, usually involves the loss of memory
of the event that caused the concussion. Other symptoms can include; Headache or a feeling of
pressure in the head, Temporary loss of consciousness, Confusion or feeling as if in a fog, Amnesia
surrounding the traumatic event, Dizziness or seeing stars, Ringing in the ears and Nausea.

Harris Job Fair Essay
Conducting Job fairs that are centrally located to military bases will ensure that we receive many
applicants with the prior experience that has shown to be a component of a successful hire.
Established peer network As a company that receives many of its projects through contractual bidding,
it is often possible to receive qualified candidates through established peer networks. Contracts are
undertaken with a variance in time schedules for completion and often can end for a variety of
different reasons. As a major contractor for the defense industry, Harris often has, as do other
companies, prior knowledge as to a competitor s contract not being renewed. This opens up many
opportunities for Harris to reach out to the soon to be displaced, yet highly knowledgeable, workers.
Because of this, it is necessary for Harris to maintain vigilance over industry turnover to recruit some
of these displaced workers before they move on to other positions. These candidates come fully
trained and industry fluent and are a prized acquisition. This strategic component has consideration

While promoting from within is always encouraged, doing so, usually creates another vacancy which
must be filled for the firm to maintain peak operations. In the case of all positions which will be hired,
Harris will recruit to actively fill the slate of candidates. This policy is not in and of itself a strategic
decision, however, awareness and understanding of this policy is necessary for effective recruiting to
take place considering the values of Harris Corporation. The following section details the recruitment
process form the initial understanding of the need to fill a position, through the hiring of that position.
By following the previous hiring processes of Harris, we get a better understanding of the costs
involved in a IM PM position turnover. Understanding these costs will allow us to further refine our

Television And Its Impact On Society
The early nineties thus emerged as a liminal period in the trajectory of media practices. Television
shows during this period were forced to navigate the methodological shift from maintaining the myth
of television as a living reflection of the movement of time to the imminent advancement of the
spectacle. This intermediary condition of the period gave rise to shows with equally confused psychic
realities, often appearing to straddle the thin line between real and fake, and highbrow and lowbrow.
However, deconstruction of the terms real , fake , highbrow and lowbrow with regard to television
reveals that these categorizations are inseparably fastened to its normalized methodological
conventions. Perceptions of the realness of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To this effect, highbrow refers to the intellectual content of programming and historically disregards
the inherent semiotic power of the visual channel. Something attains the categorization of lowbrow if
it is devoid of thoughtful transmissions of language, the deeply historicized notion of television s
essential content. Thus there is an inherent and widespread critical bias against the rising practice of
television s communicative power through imagery. W.J.T. Mitchell prophetically identified this
phenomenon when he posited an inherent shock of new media (11). Lowbrow television henceforth
chiefly represents an abandonment of the conventionally sanctioned form of transmission and is a
potentially fertile site for the avant garde.
Television that rose to prominence out of these conditions melded both sides of the shifting paradigm
and effectively mirrored modern circumstances. The WWF (now the WWE) entered its Golden Age
when new CEO Vince McMahon introduced its televised content on syndicated national television in
the eighties, and continued to rapidly grow in popularity through television s shifting methodology in
the nineties. The Simpsons was launched in 1989 to immediate mainstream success. Despite these two
programs immense differences in reputation and acclaim, each achieved increasing success through
the early nineties

How I Became The Foster Care System
I was six years old when I entered the foster care system. Perhaps entered is too soft of a term. Makes
it sound peaceful, which for the most part it wasn t. It s not something I want to look back on and
remember for the rest of my life, but something that significant left an imprint in my memory. To be
more precise, it s branded there. I may not remember every moment I had with my biological parents,
but I know my dad was always on a short fuse, and one day, he blew up. I actually find it coincidental
now how I never liked him to begin with. Even when I was that age, I never let him carry me on his
shoulders or toss me in the air like any normal and loving dad would do. Then again, I guess we didn t

Especially on that day, he was dad s shadow. One second I remember looking up at my dad and seeing
him laughing. Then I looked down. Then back up. And dad suddenly slapped Gavin across the face. I
only stared as my brother fell to the floor, his hand over his cheek. He wasn t crying, which was
probably the only reason I stayed calm. When my mom ran to my dad and pulled on his arm to get
him away from Gavin, he pushed her against the wall and screamed what sounded to me like bad
words. When I ran between them saying, Mommy, daddy, don t fight, dad picked me up and threw me
onto Gavin, who d just gotten off the ground from his first strike. Dad kept yelling at us. I didn t know
why, and it scared all of us. I knew my mom was scared because she crawled across the floor behind
dad, to the coffee table just feet from her, and swiped the little silver bottle she always carried around
with her. After she scrambled back to her corner and took a drink from it (the bottle, which I later
learned was called a flask) she looked to Gavin and me with big, sorrowful eyes. She couldn t stand up
to dad at that point even if she wanted to. The pain began to set in from my fall, so like any normal six
year old I started to cry. That s when my brother snapped into action and picked me up off the ground,
immediately fleeing the scene...right in the middle of dad s tantrum. I remember feeling him catch

Diabetes and Beta
Diabetes
Beta carotene is an organic compound categorized as a terpenoid (Gutiérrez, Gonzalez, 2010).
Naturally, it is a predecessor of vitamin A, and found in several yellow fruits and vegetables. These
organic nutrients play a vital role in aiding vision, skin growth, and bone development. In addition to
these crucial roles, Beta carotene may be of significant help in regulating the blood sugar in diabetic
persons (Gutiérrez, Gonzalez, 2010). Human bodies regulate blood sugar levels with the help of the
hormone called insulin. In the absence or inadequate supply of this hormone, an individual is said to
be diabetic. Diabetes may results in solemn conditions such as blindness, heart diseases, and stroke.

Beta carotene deficiency symptoms include nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, and loss of senses in
some cases. These symptoms occur in the aftermath of excessive consumption of Beta carotene
supplements. Individuals experiencing Beta carotene symptoms must immediately see a physician as a
delay in this regard might result in death. Similarly, researchers have established that excessive
consumptions of Beta carotene may result in hypervitaminosis A. Under this condition, the main
symptom is skin discoloration among the affected individuals. Beta carotene toxicity cases are
rampant among smokers. Physicians advise active smokers to avoid these supplements as their intake
results in increase risk of lung cancer. Scientists have asserted that metabolites elements present in the
Beta carotene substances destroy retinoic acids that repress cancer growth in the lungs (Gutiérrez,
Gonzalez, 2010). In addition, metabolites catalyze proteins responsible for cell division hence
activates the growth of cancerous cells. It is for this reason that smokers are prohibited from taking
Beta carotene substances. Thus, Beta carotene supplements are best suited for diabetic patients and
vitamin A deficient individuals. Although available without prescription, Physicians advise individuals
to take Beta carotene under doctor s instructions to avoid instances of Beta carotene toxicity. In

Essay on Presentation of Self Claim
Erving Goffman s Presentation of Self Claim Erving Goffman was a sociologist who studied and
analyzed social interaction. He took special interest in explaining how people live their lives as if they
were actors performing on stage. He looked at the world as if he were a director seeing what goes on
in everyday life. He called this observation of the world dramaturgical analysis. He applied terms to
this explanation, which include the concepts of status and role. He referred the part in a play as the
status, and then the script is the role. His claim of presentation of self was used to describe a person s
efforts to create specific impressions in the minds of others. Goffman thought that when any
individual is around others, they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of our performances are different though. They can also vary because every place we are can
change how we perform . Body language is a critical aspect in our daily performances. Sometime
body gestures can tell people things about you that you may not have want them to know, such as the
mood you are in that day. If you lied to someone they may be able to tell because of the body image of
nervousness you possess because of lying. Nonverbal communication can often provide those around
you with enough information to catch you in a lie. Another element in presentation depends on gender
too. For example, Goffman implied that men need more space than women do. Certain facial
expressions affect presentation as well, such as eye contact and smiling. Presentation also brings about
the elements of embarrassment, idealization, and tact. In modern day life, a prime example of
presentation of self can be seen through a professor teaching a class. The students in this case are the
audience and the professor of course is the actor on stage, or in front of the classroom. Students can
often times be a very intimidating audience. The professor must also present his or her self in the
proper manner. Negative body gestures can cause the students to not pay attention. Idealization plays a
huge role in the professor s presentation as well. They go into the classroom with certain motives for
teaching others. Sometimes embarrassment plays a role too. Because

A Doll s House Gender Essay
Throughout much of English literature, gender and sex have been carefully analyzed. Often, a literary
character can be identified as either male or female simply based on the character s behavior or on the
way they are described by the author. Gender is not the biological traits that society uses to assign a
person into either female or male; this is called sex. Gender is the repeated socialization over time that
leads men and women to fall into a false sense that they are acting naturally, rather than following a
socially constructed role. In A Doll House , Henrik Ibsen appoints specific stereotypical gender roles
to each of his characters to show how gender has been constructed by social expectations. One of the
most obvious issues that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Male roles in A Doll House are presented through two characters: Torvald Helmer and Nils Krogstad.
In the first place, Torvald Helmer is a mirror image of the stereotypical male gender. To him, social
expectations surrounding his gender must be met. He holds on to the belief that a man s role in
marriage is to protect and guide his wife. Also, Torvald believes that all husbands have a right to their
wives bodies. He asks Aren t I your husband ? (Isben 832) after Nora resists having sex with him. This
demonstrates how male figures of the 19th century thought they had all the power, especially when
behind closed doors. As Parker (2003) describes, in common Victorian society, the husband did not
view their wives as equals but rather an amusement or possession . Torvald enjoys the idea that Nora
needs instruction and is quite eager to show her how to dance the tarantella. Torvald is very
overbearing and treats his wife Nora like a doll. The Helmer household acts as an enclosure to shelter
the entire family from the cruelties of the outside world. Another stereotypical trait of Torvald Helmer
s is that he has a steady job and is very conscious of his appearance in the community. He has the
desire to stay in good rankings thus fires Krogstad from the bank as to not make [himself] ridiculous

Peter Olson s Ceramic Art
It is not unusual for ceramicists to employ photography as a means of documenting their works, yet
Philadelphia based artist Peter Olson s method of incorporating these two media on his exquisite clay
creations is arguably previously unseen. In each of his work, the artist cleverly unfolds a pleasant
surprise. As the audience closely examines Olson s signature kaleidoscopic surface decoration which
bears a resemblance to motifs found on Islamic artifacts and Greek vessels, images of modern streets
and people appear where floral design and mythological beings are expected to be. Photo Ceramica is
a refreshing meld of photography and ceramic art; the works showcased in the show represent nothing
less than the best of both worlds. More than 40 pieces, including bowls, marionettes, tiles, and large

Probability and Measures of Central Tendency
Probability Measures of Central Tendency Part 1 The data collected for this paper will be the number
of minutes spent on the commute to school each day for a ten day period. The commute is generally
between 20 and 30 minutes, though traffic problems, particularly accidents, can greatly increase the
time for the commute. Minutes Per Day Spent on Commuting EMBED Excel.Sheet.12 Part II Using
the data you have collected in above, please do the following: Calculate the mean, median, and mode.
The mean is the number many people refer to as the arithmetic average. It is the sum of the results
divided by the total number of data points collected. The mean is:
(23+23+27+22+19+30+32+23+24+47)/10 = 27 The median is the number in the middle of a
distribution, once that distribution has been placed in ascending or descending order. In ascending
order, the results are: 19, 22, 23, 23, 23, 24, 27, 30, 32, 47. Because 10 is an even number, the median
is the mean of the two middle numbers. The two middle numbers are 23 and 24. Therefore, the median
is 23.5. The mode is the number occurring most frequently in the distribution. The results are: 19, 22,
23, 23, 23, 24, 27, 30, 32, 47. Therefore, the mode is 23. Are these numbers higher or lower than you
would have expected? The numbers are what I expected. Which of these measures of central tendency

Essay on The Medieval knight and Chivalry
The Medieval Knight and Chivalry
The Medieval knight followed a strict and detailed Code of Chivalry, which dictated his lifestyles and
actions throughout the medieval ages. A man went through a lot to become a knight. The training took
years and it was very tedious at times. The obligations of knighthood were so heavy that sometimes
squires refused knighthood and remained squires all their lives (Buehr 33). After all the years of
training, one day made it all worthwhile. The knighting ceremony was very involved, solemn and
religious. The night before, the soon to be knight knelt on an altar praying to God and reflecting on his
future knighthood. The next day, he was clothed all in white. He attended a mass where he made his
vows. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fifth was courage: knights often had to choose the harder paths of life, the one that would cost
them. Therefore, a knight was to be prepared to make personal sacrifices in order to serve those he
was loyal to. Also, a knight was to seek wisdom. Courage also involved unconditionally taking the
side of truth, not seeking the convenient lie. They were to seek the truth whenever possible, having to
remember to mix justice with mercy, if they did not, the pure truth may bring grief. Knight errantry
involved many discomforts, but a true knight had been taught to face them with gaiety of heart (Mills
160).
The sixth basis of the code was faith: a knight was to have faith in his beliefs; faith entrenched him
and gave him hope against the misery which failure created. The seventh was humility: a knight was
to value others contributions, not boasting of their own accomplishments. They were to let others
value their accomplishments for them. A knight told of other s deeds before they told of their own,
giving everyone the fame they had earned through these deeds.
The eighth facet to knighthood was largesse: knights were expected to be as generous as they possibly
could. This made sure that a knight was not gluttonous. Largesse also made the path of mercy easier to
continue following when a difficult decision of justice came about. The ninth was nobility: a knight
was to seek great stature

Inaccuracies In Saving Private Ryan
Saving Private Ryan is considered one of the most historically accurate war movies ever produced.
However, no movie could correctly duplicate the struggle that was faced and the fear that was shared
among all of the soldiers. The movie is mostly centered around Private Ryan, a soldier during World
War II, whose three brothers have died in combat. Not wanting his mother to lose her last son, eight
men are given the mission of finding Ryan so he may be sent back home. The movie shows the
difficulties that these eight men face while searching and still trying to win the war. Surprisingly,
Saving Private Ryan is loosely based on a true story. Like Ryan in the movie, three of the four Niland
brothers were reported dead and the last one was sent home so the family would not lose all of their
children. They later discovered that one of the other brothers was alive after he escaped from a
Japanese prison camp. Unlike in the movie, there was no team assembled to go after the surviving son.
One of the biggest things that the movie got wrong was that they were not going to risk the lives of
many to save one. In the movie, the sacrifice was justified by saying that the mother did not need to go
through losing another son, but it was stated by one of the eight that they all had mothers who should
not have to go through that either. Hey, Wade, I got a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is historically inaccurate because the Geneva Conventions had decided that if the Medics were
not going to be fired upon during fighting, they were not allowed to carry any form of a weapon.
Despite doing this in the beginning, later in the movie the medic is not given a gun and is still fired
upon and soon dies of a bullet wound. Lastly, the Battle of Ramelle that occurs at the end of the movie

Why Batman Is Better Than Spider-Man
Can Batman be a bit better than spider man? Batman can beat spider man using his own attacks
against him. One weapon batman can use to his advantage is the batarang, which can cut spider man s
silk, and has a variety of memes funnier than spider man s memes. Spider man s life is not as bad as
Batman s life, because of his parents dying; He then becomes dark and more dank than Spider man.
Spider man got his powers from a radioactive spider, while Batman got his powers from seeing his
parents die from a scrub like thug that has no life and no memes.
Villains were created for Spider man to make his life worse, because he got lucky he didn t die from
getting bit from the radioactive spider. Batman got lucky he didn t get shot by the wannabe thug. ...

Spider man s life is worse than batman s because, his grandfather said the more luckier someone is
than the other, they will have bad luck paired with them to balance life out. Same goes for bad luck,
when it is also paired with good luck for balancing life because if balancing was filthy, nothing would
be possible in the universe. For battles against the villains, spider man used his silk and the
environment for his advantage, while Batman also used the environment to his advantage, he had also
used his intelligence for the upper hand in battles. Bats and spiders do relate to their thinking like both
batman and spider man unlike some spiders, some do not need silk to catch their prey.
Jumping spiders never need silk. They can hop almost forty times their body weight. Some people like
jumping spiders because they look cute up close, while others think spiders are ugly and bushy. Some
people despise the arachnids because they look creepy and crawly, but it is more scared of people than
of spiders. Spiders are usually scared of humans because they are smaller than humans and the fact
they can be out runned. Bats are a different story compared to all the animals in the

Time Is An Illusion Essay
Time. Is it an illusion? Or is it real? These two questions have been debated many times by
philosophers all around the world but they have yet to give a certain answer. Everyday, we use the
concept of time to measure how long an event is, to tell someone when to do what and to place your
events of the day in order. We are constantly using the perception of time in our sentences, but is time
actually real? I personally think that time is an illusion. I believe this because time is simply
something that gives order to our events, we do not progress in time and that time is simply an illusion
created by us.
Time is something that reminds us when there is an event that we must attend to. If you look at a
clock, all you see is a bunch of numbers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Saint Augustine stated that there are three times; a present time about things past, a present time about
things present, a present time about things future. The future exists only as expectations, the past
exists only as memory, but expectation and memory exist in the present. This means that you cannot
relive the past because you are always in the present time. Even if you are remembering a memory
from the past or waiting for something in the future, you are still in the present. Marina Abramovic
quotes: Time is an illusion. Time only exists when we think about the past and the future. Time doesn t
exist in the present here and now. This means that we only think that there is time since there is a past
and future. As time flows, the present is always updating itself every millisecond. As you read this
sentence, you might think that you are in the present but the moment is no longer happening. After
you read the sentence, that time you read it becomes the past. If you backtrack to the memory of you
reading the sentence, you are still in the present even though you are thinking of the past. If you look
at the clock, in one minute the you that you are now will be in the past. The future you will become
the present you and then almost instantly become the past you. Therefore we are always in the present
and it is the mind that can be in the present or the

The Eighth Sin In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales
The Eighth Sin Of the Seven Deadly Sins, there are powerful arguments for each one being more
deadly or worse than the others. However, there is an Eighth that is inherently the worst sin. Each of
the Seven Sins are socially acceptable in small doses. For example, it is not a sin to be proud of
something you ve made or to mad at a situation or to even simply want what someone else has. All
that becomes sin, however, when it is blown out of moderation, and when you go out of your way to
amplify the feelings and act on them, like becoming so proud you actively try to destroy others works
or become so wanting you steal, take, or destroy others property. This Eighth Sin, though, is not like
this. You cannot simply act it out in moderation, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This action can also be projected onto other people, deliberately causing them to become more
depressed and losing hope. To actively make yourself and others around you lose will and heart is to
kill yourself and others not only possibly physically, but spiritually. It is the eighth sin and quite
possibly the worst sin because it affects not only you, but primarily those around you.
Integrating despondence into Canterbury Tales would simply be another tale told by one of the
pilgrims. This tale could be about a desponder whose sin catches up to him or her after his or her
regular hopeless attitude and projection of it onto others causes a catastrophic event with them
negative results on those around them. The moral of the tale about despond would be simply stated,
though sometimes difficult to do; this moral would be to support others and do your best to instill
them with confidence, to keep their spirits and their hopes up. We can learn through helping others not
just physically but emotionally, we help ourselves just the same. Staying despondent creates a cycle of
hopelessness and depression that may never be broken, and the cycle has no positive

The Stanislavski s System Essay
The Stanislavski s System
Konstantin Sergeivich Stanislavski was born in 1863 and dies in 1938. He was a Russian actor,
director and acting trainer. In 1898 together with Nemirovich Danchenko, he founded the Moscow Art
Theatre.
=====================================================================
Stanislavski believed that theatre was about working together, he recognized the need to improve the
theatre practice of his time and saw actors needed methods to help them act well and consistently. To
solve these problems he developed what was later to be called The System. It was a rational process of
techniques and exercises designed to train and develop the actor s skills. The areas ... Show more

The idea was to help them perceive and understand the logical development of the text and find the
core of the play. These large units were then given titles which defined their objectives and were then
sub divided again into smaller units for ease of scene and character development in rehearsal.
The superobjective, when deciding on the superobjective the cast simply had to come up with a simple
sentence that summed up the significance of the play as a whole, taking into account their
interpretations of the authors intentions. Stanislavski believed that this helped the actors focus on a
key idea, which they were all contributing to through their role in the performance. Therefor he
believed it was important that all of the actors involved in the production to know and agree on the
superobjective.
The method of physical actions, This idea grew from Stanislavski s feeling that his actors were being
overwhelmed by too much character and plot detail at an early stage of the rehearsal process. He
believed this led them to try to hard, which resulted in physical and mental tension. In the last five
years of his life Stanislavski explored a different approach to working on a production, in which the
company began by telling the story of a play s plot through its main physical actions. The next stage
was to create a more detailed version that was based on an understanding of

In short, the York Water Company is in a solid financial position. It has no basis to ask for yet another
rate increase of any amount and the Commission should respond to its request accordingly. (d)
According to a PUC spokesperson as reported in a recent York Sunday News editorial a utility
company spends about $1 million to request a rate hike. Given, the number of attorneys, consultants,
judges, commissioners, and other state employees involved, it seems likely that the cost to the
commonwealth to examine and rule on that rate hike request would equal, if not exceed $1 million. A
process which results in an expenditure of something on the order of $16 million in the years since
1999 for a single utility company cries out for remediation. Would it not be far more efficient,
equitable, and cost effective to authorize a pro forma semiannual or annual utility rate increase linked
to some economic index with a provision for special exceptions under strictly defined extenuating
circumstances? The present procedure makes for absurd theater. It is respectfully requested that the

Essay on Biography of Samuel Adams
Biography of Samuel Adams Samuel Adams: From the National Statuary Hall Collection at the U.S.

Among those who signed the Declaration of Independence, and were conspicuous in the revolution,
there existed, of course, a great diversity of intellectual endowments; nor did all render to their
country, in those perilous days, the same important services. Like the luminaries of heavens each
contributed his portion of influence; but, like them, they differed, as star differeth from star in glory.
But in the constellation of great men, which adorned that era, few shone with more brilliancy, or
exercised a more powerful influence than Samuel Adams.

In 1763 it was announced, that the British ministry had it in view to tax the colonies, for the purpose
of raising a revenue, which was to be placed at the disposal of the crown. This news filled the colonies
with alarm. In Massachusetts, a committee was appointed by the people of Boston to express the
public sentiment in relation to this contemplated measure, for the guidance of the representatives to
the general court. The instructions of this committee were drawn by Mr. Adams. They formed, in
truth, a powerful remonstrance against the injustice of the contemplated system of taxation; and they
merit the more particular notice, as they were the first recorded public document, which denied the
right of taxation to the British parliament. They also contained the first suggestion of the propriety of
that mutual understanding and correspondence among the colonies, which laid the foundation of their
future confederacy. Ill these instructions, after alluding to the evils which had resulted from the acts of
the British parliament, relating to trade, Mr. Adams observes: If our trade may be taxed, why not our
lands? Why not the produce of our lands, and every thing we possess, or use? This we conceive
annihilates our charter rights to govern and tax ourselves. It strikes at our British privileges, which, as

Fitzgerald s Definition Of Truth In The Great Gatsby
What do you believe truth is? There probably are a few different definitions of truth. I consider truth
being honesty and facts. I don t care about truth. I want some happiness. said Fitzgerald s version of
truth. Hansberry says, Perhaps I will be a great man... I mean perhaps I will hold on to the substance
of the truth and find my way always with the right course. O Brien s truth is, I want you to know what
I felt. I want you to know why story truth is truer sometimes than happening truth. These three have
some decent definitions, but truth itself doesn t really have just one right definition, it s more open
ended.
Fitzgerald says, I don t care about truth. I want some happiness. It supports with truth because truth
can be happiness, if you believe in it. Fitzgerald s version of truth doesn t totally fit with truth, but it
does work because truth is a wide range. The reason it doesn t totally go with the flow is because he
says he does not care about truth, which can be a big deal depending on the situations and what not. In
the Great Gatsby someone said, I mean it was careless of me to make such a wrong guess. I thought
you were rather honest, straightforward person. (chapter 9) This fits in because it goes with the
thought that people do follow the concept of truth and honesty. ... Show more content on

Evaluation And Critical Analysis Of A 25 Minute...
The following is an evaluation and critical analysis of a 25 minute counselling session, titled Travel

used as this involves congruence or genuineness, empathy and unconditional positive regard (Geldard
Geldard, 2012) an analysis of the interview in respect to these aspects is discussed .This structure of
the interview was influenced by a review of different counselling microskills and was loosely based
on the Counselling Interview Rating Form (CIRF) developed by (Russel Chapine Shermin, 2000)
which breaks a counselling session into the 5 phases of: opening, exploration, the action phase,
problem solving and Closing. A partnership model was used in the interview and is evaluated using
the characteristics of partnership defined by Davis, (2002). As Barnes and Rowe (2013) define
partnership as a strengthening and enabling process the interview is also analysed for these
characteristics The interview took place at my home at a mutually convenient time, so we were more
comfortable we sat facing slightly offset to each other with just the corner of the table between us as
we each had a cup of tea. I would consider offering a client something to drink in the future it seemed

Recommendations And Improvements Of The Fishbone Diagram
PROCESS RECOMMENDATIONS AND IMPROVEMENTS After defining our standards,
measuring the data, and analyzing the information it was time to improve the products and processes.
This was done by assessing the manpower, materials, methods, meals, and machines related to the
process. The tools used in the analysis were the fishbone and the process flow diagrams shown below.
Some concepts on the fishbone diagram are related to the product directly while others are related to
the delivery process, the staff and the physical appearance of the restaurant. However, all of the factors
relate directly to the customer satisfaction and an enjoyable dining experience. A detailed description
of these aspects will now be discussed, along with how to implement these changes. There are many
possibilities for how the materials could be improved. First, tables and chairs should be maintained at
higher standards. This could be improved by setting time limits on clearing and resetting tables. For
example, tables must be cleaned no longer than two minutes after the customers leave the table .
Second, restrooms should be maintained on routine schedules. For example, staff should inspect
restrooms every 30 minutes and sign posted inspection sheets verifying that they were sanitized and
restocked. Furthermore, changing tables, hand sanitizers and baby wipes should be available in all
restrooms. Even the music in the restrooms was an added bonus. Third, cloth napkins and finer
utensils

A Short Note On A Polymerase Chain Reaction ( Pcr ) Essay
My longest ongoing project began in October 2014 under the guidance of Dr. Daniela Vergara, a
postdoctoral researcher of the CGRI. Dr. Vergara guided another undergraduate student and me to
troubleshoot a protocol for a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). The objective of improving this
protocol was to analyze phylogenetic relationships between local samples by amplifying and
comparing a region of Tetrahydrocannabinol Acid (THCA) Synthase Gene. My colleague and I had
applied for the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program Grant, which funded our research and
allowed us to ascertain a successful protocol for this PCR and sequence the amplified region of THCA
Synthase Gene. However, near the end of our project, we learned another university s research team
published nearly the same work we were performing, which encouraged us to further our research
before publishing. As new data became available, we observed eleven copies of the THCA Synthase
Gene, which provided our research with a new goal to develop novel primer sets for each unique copy.
My colleague and I each developed a novel set of primers and protocols associated with those primers,
which has allowed us to map the phylogeny through the variation of these genes. Continuing to
develop this research, we are analyzing possible correlations between the variations of a certain
paralogs in relation to the phenotype or physical traits of the plant. We plan to publish the
phylogenetic relationships we discovered, as well as

The Three Branches Research Paper
The Three Branches Research Paper To start off I will be talking about the Legislative Branch. And
the definition of the Legislative branch is: the part of the United States government that creates laws.
Whenever you read about congress people in the Senate or House debating a law, you re reading about
the legislative branch: the branch of the government that writes, debates, and passes laws. Making
laws can be called legislating. First is how the Legislative branch uses the checks and balances and
checks the other houses. The Legislative Branch can check the executive branch by a couple ways:
Override the presidential vetoes with a two thirds vote, may remove president through impeachment,
and the senate approving treaties. The legislative branch can check the judicial branch by: removing
judges through impeachment, creating lower courts, and the senate approving the appointments of
judges. Next is the Speaker of the House and its role; his institutional role of presiding officer and
administrative head of the House, the role of leader of the majority party in the House, and the
representative role of an elected member of the House. The Speaker of the House is second in line to
succeed the President, after the Vice President. The Senate President Pro Tempore s job is; is similar to
the Speaker of the House but more limited. For example of the Pro Tempore s job is to act as in the
President of the Senate or Vice President when he/she is absent. Next is the Majority and

Cultures Effects on accounting behaviors
High uncertainty avoidance and low individualism. Conservative measurement of income, limit

Uncertainty avoidance decreased. Transparency increased.
Table 1.
However, it is difficult to find out specific evidences on the effects of culture on the company s
financial reporting within a large international firm due to some limitations. Firstly, the cultural data is
not reliable in an accounting context (Nobes and Parker, 2012). For example, UK and Germany use
different legal and accounting systems despite both of them are European countries. German
companies are in operating under their own laws and policies. Secondly, compared with the
measurement of direct relevant elements of the external environment of accounting such as legal
systems or equity markets, the measurements of cultural influences within a company accounting
system are vague and indirect (Nobes and parker, 2012). Culture measurement is complex, Hofstede s
theory doesn t consider about the people which come from other countries and minority population

What Is Peru Caused By Political Violence
Peru is a country long plagued by political violence. The Shining Path is by far the largest and most
successful of Peru s terrorist organizations. Shining Path initiated its first operations against the Lima
regime in 1980. In the intervening years, it quickly became the most serious security problem that the
Peruvian government faced. Few political movements, inside or outside of Peru, could match its
fanaticism and extreme ideology. The Shining Path must be singled out for its simple ruthlessness.
Murder, dynamite bombings, and arson are its instruments of political violence. Few terrorist groups
in modern times have employed violence with the same determination, lack of discrimination, and
widespread effect as the Shining Path.

To face the blood and the slaughter Spartan Society and Values according to Tyrtaeus and Xenophon
No man ever proves himself a good man in war unless he can endure to face the blood and the

creed by the poet Tyrtaeus. There are two authors in this primary resource reading which include
Tyrtaeus as well as Xenophon, whom authored The laws and customs of the Spartans . These two
works give great detail to the Spartan society. As history has presented it, Sparta was a smaller polis

According to Western Civilizations volume I, chapter 3 The Greek Experiment , men over the age of
60 were elected to the gerousia; a counsel of 28 elders, which was the main policy making body of
Sparta. These men were revered and yet even they paid homage to the elite warriors; even giving up
their seats whenever courtesy was allowed. Tyrtaeus motives are clear here that to be brave and win in
war was above all else in society. The same is still true in our culture s today.
When women and men enter the army and make their way up the ranks by all the necessary works,
they are given different statuses and markings. People are called general, commander and issued
different insignia to be seen by all. Soldiers are respected and admired and just as in Spartan times
when people would point to fallen hero s tombs with pride, there is still that revelry today. A national
cemetery is offered to those of the bravest and truest hero s. Although, some views today could argue
that just as the US is imposing on others and causing unjust wars for its own views; the Spartans
valued and went to war just to obtain that highly glorified status.
It was not enough in this reading to become the fastest, strongest, most handsome, powerful, or richest
person. It was the acts perceived in war that were most important. In order to achieve

Socrates Worldview Of Socrates
Part 1: Socrates Worldview Socrates is a widely renowned teacher, who has taught and demonstrated a
variety of lessons that regard how he views the world. Socrates has described his view on morality,
purpose, death, and the ultimate. He has spoken about these views through multiple texts including
The Last Days of Socrates and they have been interpreted through the text Socrates by George
Rudebusch. Through these worldviews, Socrates has given people the opportunity to expand their
wisdom and question the world around them.
Morality
In the novel The Last Day of Socrates, Socrates explains that a central moral principle is that no one
must do wrong. ...that to commit injustice is in every case bad and dishonorable for the person who

Therefore, if these things are not exchanged with the help of wisdom then Socrates believes that the
aspect of virtue is ...a mere illusion. (Phaedo 69b). In conclusion, Socrates view on morality is based
upon justice, examining how to live, and expanding one s wisdom.
Purpose Socrates found his purpose through oracles and dreams by a divine power, ...since I was
trying to find out the meaning of the oracle, I was bound to interview everyone who had a reputation
for knowledge. (Apology 22a), from the oracle of Apollo, Socrates believed that his purpose was to
philosophize. Socrates would question reputable wise men and try to prove the oracle that he
(Socrates) was not the wisest man. After interviewing men with a high reputation, Socrates began to
expose them for their ignorance and their deficiency. He also determined that his wisdom was of no
value, yet he was the wisest mortal. He also established that there are three levels of wisdom; real
wisdom (the highest), being wisest among men (the middle), not being wise, but seeming wise,
especially to oneself (the lowest). Even after establishing his purpose and proving the oracle, he felt as
if he should still philosophize (Mission from God, pg. 20). Along with morality, Socrates had the
belief that our purpose in life was to examine how to live, he thought that we must come

Antigone, The Tragic Hero
Aristotle defined a tragic hero as someone who is born in wealth, we pity and fear and has the
potential for greatness but is doomed to fail, most commonly caused by ones fatal flaw. In Antigone,
by Sophocles, Antigone is the tragic hero. Antigone was born into a wealthy family. By the first
couple pages of the book we already pity her because all she wants is to bury her beloved brother and

After getting captured for the crime of burying her brother. Crean asks her why she defined his
proclamation, she replies It was not God s Proclamation. That final Justice That rules the world below
makes no such laws. (208) This quote talks about how Antigone justifies her actions by referencing
the gods and her belief in the afterlife. She buried her brother because thats what the gods would have
wanted, and after his burial he would be free to make passage to where his spirit needed togo. In the
same context, Antigone says, Your edict, King, was strong, but all your strength is weakness itself
against the immortal unrecorded laws of God. They are not merely now: they were, and shall be,
Operative for ever, beyond man utterly. (209) Antigone is saying Creon s power is useless if you put it
in perspective of the gods power. Also the gods respect the burial process and defying them could
cause a lot of turmoil for the one responsible. Antigone believed that she was doing the right thing in
the eyes of the gods, and that she would be respected for what she did in the afterlife. Antigone s
loyalty to the gods was one of her fatal flaws, it caused her to think she was above Creon s authority

Dual Coding Theory And Its Effect On The Way Of A Person...
A person can distinguished between scenes they have already scene from one that they have not.
However, people can distinguished a scene but is not able to tell a descriptive information whether it

verbal associations and visual imagery and that given a person both of these encoding enhance
memory and have a higher recall rate. Different methods have been used to enhance memory such
imagery and mnemonic devices. Memory plays an essential part of everyday life; several factors can
effect or influence the way a person remembers a memory.

students who reported that they were depressed also stated that they considered their health fair or

Essay about Reagan and Gorbachev
Reagan and Gorbachev
During his first term, Reagan denounced the pre Gorbachev Soviet Union as an evil empire.
The Cold War took place between the United States (US) and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics
(USSR) from the mid 1940 s to the early 1990s. It was a cold war in the sense that there was never any
military engagement between the US and the USSR, but during the Cold War both superpowers
invested in many different weapons. The Cold War finally started to wind down in the late 1980 s due
to Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev s cooperation.
In 1971, Mikhail Gorbachev had been chosen to the Key Panel, which was comprised of chosen

The Testament Of The Old Testament Essay
1. The Old Testament consisted of a set of the spiritual text of documentations, which were written by
different people at various times to a different audience. Most of the Old Testament contains short
stories of traditional stories and those stories of distinguish ways God established mankind. These
stories are often told to the people in narrative form, which are guidelines often referred to as laws,
songs, genealogies, and list from these authors that composed the Old Testaments. The pressing of set
documentation is essential because it is the framework for the lives of Gods followers. The term Old
Testament originated as a means to express spoken traditions and Gods creation from that particular
era. It is a method of philosophical investigation was designed to answer the why questions within
these spiritual text documentations. These religious documentations consist of four parts. These four
sections include the Old Testaments are the laws, history, wisdom and prophecy. The laws are a rule of
behavior enforced within the community. The rules are sometimes called Torah. When analyzing these
Torah, these rules were located in the first five spiritual books of the Bible. For example, in the first
Torah in Genesis, it explains the creation, Noah s Flood, Abraham and Isaac, and Joseph s coats of

Civil War Weaponry
Ketchum Grenades
In August of 1861, William F. Ketchum patented the Ketchum Hand Grenade. Shortly after, in the
years of 1863 and 1864, the grenade was implemented in the American Civil War.
With a lemon shaped piece of iron and a tail made of paper or cardboard, the handheld explosive
greatly resembled a dart. On the front of the grenade s body was a plunger, which held a percussion
cap filled with explosive material. When the the grenade fell onto its nose and applied pressure to the
plunger, an explosion was triggered, only to be met by more gunpowder inside. Although the resulting
explosion caused a great deal of mayhem and shrapnel, it was not very reliable because its detonation
depended on the grenade falling directly onto its nose. Because of its temperamental behavior, the
grenade got a reputation for not being very accurate.
During its use by the Union army, the weapon was still in its earliest stages. Although the Confederate
army did not adopt this specific weapon, they had similar ideas such as the Raines grenade, which was
similar in appearance, but completely inadequate for battle. Instead of cardboard fins for a stable
flight, the Raines grenade had a cloth streamer.
Ketchums were used in several important battles such as the battle of Vicksburg and the siege of
Petersburg. Union soldiers threw the grenades at the Confederate troops and stood back for the
explosion. They were faced with an unpleasant surprise when the Confederates found a way to avoid

Best Practices For Managing Parent Concerns Essay In recent years, it is now customary for professionals who work in higher education to have interesting stories about their interactions with parents. In Lynette S. Merriman s book, Best Practices for Managing Parent Concerns: A Mixed Methods Study of Student Affairs Practice at Doctoral Research Institutions, she uses the 2006 national survey of student affairs professionals to discover that 93% of respondents recorded that their interactions with parents had increased in the most recent five years of research (105; ch. 7). Not only have higher education professionals seen increased parental interactions with administrators, but also with students. In 2007, the organization College Parents of America surveyed parents and found that 34% of respondents reported that they communicated with their children either daily, or more than once a day ( National Parent Survey ). Increased parental involvement is driving colleges and universities to examine the advantages and disadvantages of having parents as a more significant influence on collegiate processes. The frequency and medium of communication between parents, students, and administrators is a specific interest. Much of the increased involvement originates from the prevalence of technology such as cell phones and e mail, parents are able to talk to their students daily, receiving immediate updates happenings with classes, extra curricular activities, friends, and roommates. The notion that immigrants take American jobs, is a huge misconception. To battle these tropes, Chomsky states facts and backs her claims with many examples to amply prove that Immigration is not a major factor to the loss of jobs. Job s that affect the community are local jobs, which help out the community because the money they make goes towards the community. But most jobs rely on the global market to stay afloat in the economy. And typically, the jobs that rely on the global market instead of the local market, aren t able to support the local communities which can keep local communities stagnant. The Use Of Motifs In The Bean Trees Written by Barbara Kingsolver, The Bean Trees contains characters who demonstrate how living creatures are able to find methods of growing and transforming, despite unusual arrangements or lifestyle. Throughout the novel, in the chapters The One to Get Away and Dream Angels the use of motifs are greatly emphasized. Rebirth is one of the two important motifs, as the pattern of life and death is repeated in the novel. Frequently, this theme is connected with dualities: when one member of a pair passes, the other gains life force. The wisteria vines speak to the cooperative connections that predominant the novel, and most importantly, the development of bean trees speaks to the development of Turtle Greer and her development all through the novel. Bean, (128) Turtle s first word, symbolizes the guarantee that, similar to a dried up seed that grows, an emotionally or physically wounded woman may flourish if sufficiently given consideration. Introduction Within this assignment I will be exploring the influence of concussion within KS3 rugby and discuss the signs and symptoms it has on young athletes and the impact it has on their return to physical activity. Understanding concussion Before we can recognize the symptoms, we must first understand what concussion actually is. Minor traumatic brain injury (Mtbi) is the medical term used when there is a sudden onset but brief loss of cognitive function that occurs after a blow or other moderate trauma to the head that jars or shakes the brain inside the skull. • 8. Television And Its Impact On Society The early nineties thus emerged as a liminal period in the trajectory of media practices. Television shows during this period were forced to navigate the methodological shift from maintaining the myth of television as a living reflection of the movement of time to the imminent advancement of the spectacle. This intermediary condition of the period gave rise to shows with equally confused psychic realities, often appearing to straddle the thin line between real and fake, and highbrow and lowbrow. However, deconstruction of the terms real , fake , highbrow and lowbrow with regard to television reveals that these categorizations are inseparably fastened to its normalized methodological conventions. Perceptions of the realness of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To this effect, highbrow refers to the intellectual content of programming and historically disregards the inherent semiotic power of the visual channel. Something attains the categorization of lowbrow if it is devoid of thoughtful transmissions of language, the deeply historicized notion of television s essential content. Thus there is an inherent and widespread critical bias against the rising practice of television s communicative power through imagery. W.J.T. Mitchell prophetically identified this phenomenon when he posited an inherent shock of new media (11). Lowbrow television henceforth chiefly represents an abandonment of the conventionally sanctioned form of transmission and is a potentially fertile site for the avant garde. Television that rose to prominence out of these conditions melded both sides of the shifting paradigm and effectively mirrored modern circumstances. The WWF (now the WWE) entered its Golden Age when new CEO Vince McMahon introduced its televised content on syndicated national television in the eighties, and continued to rapidly grow in popularity through television s shifting methodology in the nineties. The Simpsons was launched in 1989 to immediate mainstream success. Makes it sound peaceful, which for the most part it wasn t. It s not something I want to look back on and remember for the rest of my life, but something that significant left an imprint in my memory. To be more precise, it s branded there. I may not remember every moment I had with my biological parents, but I know my dad was always on a short fuse, and one day, he blew up. When my mom ran to my dad and pulled on his arm to get him away from Gavin, he pushed her against the wall and screamed what sounded to me like bad words. When I ran between them saying, Mommy, daddy, don t fight, dad picked me up and threw me onto Gavin, who d just gotten off the ground from his first strike. Dad kept yelling at us. I didn t know why, and it scared all of us. I knew my mom was scared because she crawled across the floor behind dad, to the coffee table just feet from her, and swiped the little silver bottle she always carried around with her. After she scrambled back to her corner and took a drink from it (the bottle, which I later learned was called a flask) she looked to Gavin and me with big, sorrowful eyes. She couldn t stand up to dad at that point even if she wanted to. The pain began to set in from my fall, so like any normal six year old I started to cry. • 12. Essay on Presentation of Self Claim Erving Goffman s Presentation of Self Claim Erving Goffman was a sociologist who studied and analyzed social interaction. He took special interest in explaining how people live their lives as if they were actors performing on stage. He looked at the world as if he were a director seeing what goes on in everyday life. He called this observation of the world dramaturgical analysis. He applied terms to this explanation, which include the concepts of status and role. He referred the part in a play as the status, and then the script is the role. Body language is a critical aspect in our daily performances. Sometime body gestures can tell people things about you that you may not have want them to know, such as the mood you are in that day. If you lied to someone they may be able to tell because of the body image of nervousness you possess because of lying. Nonverbal communication can often provide those around you with enough information to catch you in a lie. Another element in presentation depends on gender too. For example, Goffman implied that men need more space than women do. Certain facial expressions affect presentation as well, such as eye contact and smiling. Presentation also brings about the elements of embarrassment, idealization, and tact. In modern day life, a prime example of presentation of self can be seen through a professor teaching a class. The students in this case are the audience and the professor of course is the actor on stage, or in front of the classroom. Students can often times be a very intimidating audience. The professor must also present his or her self in the proper manner. Negative body gestures can cause the students to not pay attention. • 13. A Doll s House Gender Essay Throughout much of English literature, gender and sex have been carefully analyzed. Often, a literary character can be identified as either male or female simply based on the character s behavior or on the way they are described by the author. Gender is not the biological traits that society uses to assign a person into either female or male; this is called sex. Gender is the repeated socialization over time that leads men and women to fall into a false sense that they are acting naturally, rather than following a socially constructed role. In the first place, Torvald Helmer is a mirror image of the stereotypical male gender. To him, social expectations surrounding his gender must be met. He holds on to the belief that a man s role in marriage is to protect and guide his wife. Also, Torvald believes that all husbands have a right to their wives bodies. He asks Aren t I your husband ? (Isben 832) after Nora resists having sex with him. This demonstrates how male figures of the 19th century thought they had all the power, especially when behind closed doors. As Parker (2003) describes, in common Victorian society, the husband did not view their wives as equals but rather an amusement or possession . Torvald enjoys the idea that Nora needs instruction and is quite eager to show her how to dance the tarantella. Torvald is very overbearing and treats his wife Nora like a doll. The Helmer household acts as an enclosure to shelter the entire family from the cruelties of the outside world. Minutes Per Day Spent on Commuting EMBED Excel.Sheet.12 Part II Using the data you have collected in above, please do the following: Calculate the mean, median, and mode. The mean is the number many people refer to as the arithmetic average. It is the sum of the results divided by the total number of data points collected. The mean is: (23+23+27+22+19+30+32+23+24+47)/10 = 27 The median is the number in the middle of a distribution, once that distribution has been placed in ascending or descending order. In ascending order, the results are: 19, 22, 23, 23, 23, 24, 27, 30, 32, 47. Because 10 is an even number, the median is the mean of the two middle numbers. The two middle numbers are 23 and 24. Essay on The Medieval knight and Chivalry The Medieval Knight and Chivalry The Medieval knight followed a strict and detailed Code of Chivalry, which dictated his lifestyles and actions throughout the medieval ages. A man went through a lot to become a knight. The training took years and it was very tedious at times. The obligations of knighthood were so heavy that sometimes squires refused knighthood and remained squires all their lives (Buehr 33). After all the years of training, one day made it all worthwhile. The knighting ceremony was very involved, solemn and religious. The night before, the soon to be knight knelt on an altar praying to God and reflecting on his future knighthood. The fifth was courage: knights often had to choose the harder paths of life, the one that would cost them. Therefore, a knight was to be prepared to make personal sacrifices in order to serve those he was loyal to. Also, a knight was to seek wisdom. Courage also involved unconditionally taking the side of truth, not seeking the convenient lie. They were to seek the truth whenever possible, having to remember to mix justice with mercy, if they did not, the pure truth may bring grief. Knight errantry involved many discomforts, but a true knight had been taught to face them with gaiety of heart (Mills 160). The sixth basis of the code was faith: a knight was to have faith in his beliefs; faith entrenched him and gave him hope against the misery which failure created. The seventh was humility: a knight was to value others contributions, not boasting of their own accomplishments. They were to let others value their accomplishments for them. A knight told of other s deeds before they told of their own, giving everyone the fame they had earned through these deeds. The eighth facet to knighthood was largesse: knights were expected to be as generous as they possibly could. This made sure that a knight was not gluttonous. Largesse also made the path of mercy easier to continue following when a difficult decision of justice came about. The ninth was nobility: a knight was to seek great stature ... • 19. Inaccuracies In Saving Private Ryan Saving Private Ryan is considered one of the most historically accurate war movies ever produced. However, no movie could correctly duplicate the struggle that was faced and the fear that was shared among all of the soldiers. The movie is mostly centered around Private Ryan, a soldier during World War II, whose three brothers have died in combat. Not wanting his mother to lose her last son, eight men are given the mission of finding Ryan so he may be sent back home. The movie shows the difficulties that these eight men face while searching and still trying to win the war. Surprisingly, Saving Private Ryan is loosely based on a true story. Like Ryan in the movie, three of the four Niland brothers were reported dead and the last one was sent home so the family would not lose all of their children. They later discovered that one of the other brothers was alive after he escaped from a Japanese prison camp. Unlike in the movie, there was no team assembled to go after the surviving son. One of the biggest things that the movie got wrong was that they were not going to risk the lives of many to save one. In the movie, the sacrifice was justified by saying that the mother did not need to go through losing another son, but it was stated by one of the eight that they all had mothers who should not have to go through that either. These two questions have been debated many times by philosophers all around the world but they have yet to give a certain answer. We are constantly using the perception of time in our sentences, but is time actually real? I personally think that time is an illusion. I believe this because time is simply something that gives order to our events, we do not progress in time and that time is simply an illusion created by us. This means that you cannot relive the past because you are always in the present time. Even if you are remembering a memory from the past or waiting for something in the future, you are still in the present. Marina Abramovic quotes: Time is an illusion. Time only exists when we think about the past and the future. Time doesn t exist in the present here and now. This means that we only think that there is time since there is a past and future. As time flows, the present is always updating itself every millisecond. As you read this sentence, you might think that you are in the present but the moment is no longer happening. After you read the sentence, that time you read it becomes the past. If you backtrack to the memory of you reading the sentence, you are still in the present even though you are thinking of the past. However, there is an Eighth that is inherently the worst sin. Each of the Seven Sins are socially acceptable in small doses. For example, it is not a sin to be proud of something you ve made or to mad at a situation or to even simply want what someone else has. All that becomes sin, however, when it is blown out of moderation, and when you go out of your way to amplify the feelings and act on them, like becoming so proud you actively try to destroy others works or become so wanting you steal, take, or destroy others property. In Supplement No. 111 to Water Pa. P.U.C. No. 14 the York Water Company (the Company) has requested an overall 17.2% increase in its base rates. In short, the York Water Company is in a solid financial position. It has no basis to ask for yet another rate increase of any amount and the Commission should respond to its request accordingly. (d) According to a PUC spokesperson as reported in a recent York Sunday News editorial a utility company spends about $1 million to request a rate hike. Given, the number of attorneys, consultants, judges, commissioners, and other state employees involved, it seems likely that the cost to the commonwealth to examine and rule on that rate hike request would equal, if not exceed $1 million. A process which results in an expenditure of something on the order of $16 million in the years since 1999 for a single utility company cries out for remediation. Would it not be far more efficient, equitable, and cost effective to authorize a pro forma semiannual or annual utility rate increase linked to some economic index with a provision for special exceptions under strictly defined extenuating circumstances? The present procedure makes for absurd theater. It is respectfully requested that the Commission move ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This news filled the colonies with alarm. In Massachusetts, a committee was appointed by the people of Boston to express the public sentiment in relation to this contemplated measure, for the guidance of the representatives to the general court. The instructions of this committee were drawn by Mr. Adams. They formed, in truth, a powerful remonstrance against the injustice of the contemplated system of taxation; and they merit the more particular notice, as they were the first recorded public document, which denied the right of taxation to the British parliament. They also contained the first suggestion of the propriety of that mutual understanding and correspondence among the colonies, which laid the foundation of their future confederacy. Ill these instructions, after alluding to the evils which had resulted from the acts of the British parliament, relating to trade, Mr. Adams observes: If our trade may be taxed, why not our lands? Why not the produce of our lands, and every thing we possess, or use? This we conceive annihilates our charter rights to govern and tax ourselves. Recommendations And Improvements Of The Fishbone Diagram PROCESS RECOMMENDATIONS AND IMPROVEMENTS After defining our standards, measuring the data, and analyzing the information it was time to improve the products and processes. This was done by assessing the manpower, materials, methods, meals, and machines related to the process. The tools used in the analysis were the fishbone and the process flow diagrams shown below. Some concepts on the fishbone diagram are related to the product directly while others are related to the delivery process, the staff and the physical appearance of the restaurant. However, all of the factors relate directly to the customer satisfaction and an enjoyable dining experience. A detailed description of these aspects will now be discussed, along with how to implement these changes. There are many possibilities for how the materials could be improved. First, tables and chairs should be maintained at higher standards. This could be improved by setting time limits on clearing and resetting tables. For example, tables must be cleaned no longer than two minutes after the customers leave the table . Second, restrooms should be maintained on routine schedules. For example, staff should inspect restrooms every 30 minutes and sign posted inspection sheets verifying that they were sanitized and restocked. Furthermore, changing tables, hand sanitizers and baby wipes should be available in all restrooms. Even the music in the restrooms was an added bonus. Third, cloth napkins and finer utensils ... And the definition of the Legislative branch is: the part of the United States government that creates laws. Whenever you read about congress people in the Senate or House debating a law, you re reading about the legislative branch: the branch of the government that writes, debates, and passes laws. Making laws can be called legislating. First is how the Legislative branch uses the checks and balances and checks the other houses. The Legislative Branch can check the executive branch by a couple ways: Override the presidential vetoes with a two thirds vote, may remove president through impeachment, and the senate approving treaties. The legislative branch can check the judicial branch by: removing judges through impeachment, creating lower courts, and the senate approving the appointments of judges. Next is the Speaker of the House and its role; his institutional role of presiding officer and administrative head of the House, the role of leader of the majority party in the House, and the representative role of an elected member of the House. The Speaker of the House is second in line to succeed the President, after the Vice President. The Senate President Pro Tempore s job is; is similar to the Speaker of the House but more limited. Shortly after, in the years of 1863 and 1864, the grenade was implemented in the American Civil War. With a lemon shaped piece of iron and a tail made of paper or cardboard, the handheld explosive greatly resembled a dart. On the front of the grenade s body was a plunger, which held a percussion cap filled with explosive material. When the the grenade fell onto its nose and applied pressure to the plunger, an explosion was triggered, only to be met by more gunpowder inside. Although the resulting explosion caused a great deal of mayhem and shrapnel, it was not very reliable because its detonation depended on the grenade falling directly onto its nose. Because of its temperamental behavior, the grenade got a reputation for not being very accurate. During its use by the Union army, the weapon was still in its earliest stages. Although the Confederate army did not adopt this specific weapon, they had similar ideas such as the Raines grenade, which was similar in appearance, but completely inadequate for battle.
