Don T Judge A Book By Its Cover For Frankenstein
Have you ever heard the saying, Don t judge a book by its cover? If not one would answer, Always
read a book cover to cover before you make judgments. Frankenstein is one such book. While
Frankenstein is a book about a monster terrifying a city it is also about compassion, love and
friendship. After reading the book you would discover Frankenstein, the monster, is a loving creature
with feelings and wants to become a part of society.
There are a many compelling themes in Frankenstein. However, two themes running through the book
are not to judge a person for the way they look and isolation can be a devastating thing. No one should
be judged by the way they look. Throughout the story Frankenstein is hated by the community for the

Paul Revere s Ride By Henry Longfellow Figurative Language
In the poem, Paul Revere s Ride, the author, Henry Longfellow, uses figurative language, and sound
devices to create suspense and tension within the poem. The way he uses the figurative language and
sound devices makes readers want to keep reading to find out what will happen next. In Longfellow s
famous poem he uses devices such as rhyming, rhyme scheme, and repetition to allow the readers to
feel fear and push them to the edge of their seats. Some figurative language the storyteller uses is
personification, and similes to compare objects, and fearful moments to something more dramatic.
One way Longfellow makes his readers want to read on is using rhyming words at the end of each line
in a stanza. For example, in stanza 11, lines 104 110, He heard to bleating of the flock/ And the twitter
of birds among the trees/ And felt the breath of the morning breeze/ Blowing over the meadows brown
These few lines use peaceful, and soothing words to allow the readers to feel safe. But, then

The Constitution Of A Country s Government
In order to state whether I am in favour of this statement or not, it is important to understand the
statement itself. Constitution is a set of rules standardising the power and duties of a country s
government as well as the rights of its individuals. Currently constitutions come under two key terms;
codified and uncodified constitutions. The UK and countries like Israel and New Zealand are a prime
example of uncodified constitutions but that is not to say it is unwritten. Uncodified constitution is one
that is made up of numerous written sources. Magna Carta , the Bill of Rights , Act of Settlement and
Parliament Acts are among those sources used by the UK. Due to the existence of many written
sources it would not be accurate to refer to the UK constitution as unwritten instead a more suitable
word that can be used is uncodified . Uncodified follows the normal processes for enacting statute law
in order to alter or eradicate, the constitution therefore there is no judicial authority. Codified
constitution on the other hand, is one that is entrenched and has key constitutional provisions collected
within a single document. This type of constitution is referred to as a written constitution. The USA
constitution, as an example, was drafted around as lon200 years ago and lays down the rights of
American citizens and sets out the power of the government in place. Malcolm Walles described USA
smoke of gun powder and the UK constitution appeared out of

Understanding The Current Epistemological Understanding
1. Describe your current epistemological understanding. Comment on the following issues: a. Does a
real world exist? In what form? Yes, a real world does exist. It is independent of the mind as the world
we live in is tangible, visible, and created with a purpose. As a Christian, I know the world exist
because God created it and recorded the creation story in Genesis. Additionally, God created
knowledge and wisdom including, general revelation. General revelation holds people accountable for
knowing the Maker of the Universe. The world exists in two forms an earthly form and a spiritual
form. The earthly form is the universe we live in and the spiritual form is Heaven. Although, we may
not be able to see Heaven, it is still real since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, when it comes to implementing Biblical principles into my classroom, I can be confident
that what I am teaching is accurate, true, and unchanging. The Bible is absolute truth and the basis for
righteous living. The implications for teaching my students, based off of the information I give them
or they discover, will include the history behind the information they are learning. For example, when
teaching mathematical formulas or principles, I can inform my students about the philosophers and
mathematicians who came before them and discovered the information. In terms of biblical
integration, I can explain to my students the biblical truths in a way that is applicable to their everyday
lives. Additionally, I will have the understanding that knowledge is not absolute and a continuum of
learning should be taking place at all times. I will always be learning new things and will be able to
implement them into my classroom. c. As a teacher, will you ever consider that what you teach may be
wrong? On what basis will you evaluate the accuracy of what you teach? I will base the accuracy of
the content I teach my students upon the evidence of the accuracy of the material. I will use textbooks
from a reputable source(s), as well as researching the material being taught. Additionally, I will align
the material I teach with the state standards. Although, I will be confident in the content and
information I am teaching my students, I also realize that new

Essay on Expand Ukraine’s Political Ambitions
The month of November in Ukraine was interesting, to say the least. Politically, the Ukrainian
President, Viktor Yanukovych attempts to reform amending bills, while also socially ignoring the
decline in press freedom. However, a major noteworthy article appeared on the stands: Ukraine goes
offshore. This article is probably one of the most important events that occurred in November, which
discusses revenue lost on offshore tax schemes. As an attempt to electronically expand Ukraine s
political ambitions, Viktor Yanukovych passed a recent bill early in November that will allow votes in
the Parliament to be conducted by an electronic card (Ukrainian). Although not technically
monumental, the bill will allow members of Parliament an easier ... Show more content on

He even goes as far as to say, the written press is as it was before (AFP). The information associated
with Google s article, President denies problem with Ukraine press freedom , discusses the television
networks across Ukraine as experiencing horrendous mishaps, such as the censoring of broadcasts and
the removal of episodes that go against the regulations transpired by the president. If Yanukovych does
not approve of the media associated with the press, he opposes the spreading of the ideas.
Unfortunately, Yanukovych seems to acknowledge the fact that he will only allow production of news,
journals, pictures, etc., if they portray the truth. The truth, in fact, is quite limited by the strict
regulations Yanukovych orders Ukraine s networking companies to follow. As this issue is heightened
by Yanukovych s disapproval and lack of understanding, I definitely am worried for the social state of
the nation. As someone living in a free nation, I understand the social liberties that are given to a
nation, and how it allows people to globalize their social understandings. Once Ukraine becomes
socially deteriorated by Yanukovych s policies, Ukraine will suffer with various downfalls in freedom.
I am a strong opponent to this ordeal for these reasons. I feel that Yanukoyvch continues to fear
opposition and removal from office, so he eliminates all possible enemies. By exterminating the social

Essay On Columbus Day
In every school in the United States, teachers would teach students about Columbus and his journey to
the Americas and how his discovery would eventually lead to the beginning of the colonization of the
Americas. Every student knows who Columbus is: an explorer from Spain who set sailed to the
Americas in 1492 with his ship: The Nina, The Pinta, and the Santa Maria. However, there is more
than meets the eye. Christopher Columbus s achievements have created a mindset in which many
people will follow during colonization: to conquer and enslave the people and the land for golds and
richest. We as Americans celebrate Columbus Day to remember the achievements that Columbus has
done. However, we shouldn t celebrate Columbus Day because of ... Show more content on

According to Michael Paiewonsky, he talks about Columbus s vision, saying that the natives had a
good build and can make a fine slave. (Biography: Christopher Columbus. 26:32 26:39). Also,
Michael even mentions that Columbus captures and steals natives that he trades with and keeps them
as slaves. (Biography: Christopher Columbus.26:40 26:43) Columbus s act towards the natives was
rather rash and horrible. Taking natives and use them as personal slaves for is personal use shows that
Columbus really cared about is the spoils and glory. He cared about being famous and the wealth he
will gain once he finishes with his first voyage. With the Spanish Empire colonizing parts, the New
World, many Spaniards mistreated the natives and eventually enslave them. After Columbus discover
that his colony of Hispaniola was turned to a killing zone, the both Columbus and the Spaniards begin

The Debate On Nature Vs Nurture Essay
As the dubious history of the debate on nature vs nurture continues to be a controversy, more and
more psychologists start to rise from both sides of the argument. The earliest evidence can be traced
back to the time of John Locke, who believes that our minds are blank slates and only experience can
write override it. Despite the main focus of the issue being how environment transact to influence
development, psychologists today continue to argue on the issue of nature vs nurture. Intelligence is
more of a concept rather than a specific measure of something. To be able to argue for nature or
nurture, one needs to understand what intelligence really means. By definition, it refers to our mental
quality consisting of the ability to learn from experience, solve problems, and use knowledge to adapt
to new situations. This concept covers the fields of many different aspects of the obstacles we meet in
life, and what we are trying to figure out is which side of the argument can support and explain how
the idea of intelligence is actually produced. Although some correlational studies show that nature
corresponds greatly with peoples intelligence levels, it does not prove causation unless the correlation
level is extremely high (somewhere around +0.8 +1.0). However, many factors and ideas can be used
to prove that nurture has a bigger impact on peoples intelligence levels. Through the parenting,
education, and social economic and cultural background, it is evident that nurture is

Carrier Warfare Research Paper
The first strike advantage defines the significance of carrier warfare. Carrier warfare is a method of
striking with such force that the enemy will no longer be a threat. The emergence of carrier warfare
centers on the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor. The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor with regards to the
offense/defense theory. Japan had naval power and knew that they must preemptively destroy US
battle ships that had the ability to defeat Japan. Sagan would argue that the emergence of carrier
warfare derives from Japan s miscalculation of the United States credibility. Japan did not believe that
the United States would declare war. Japan also gravely misgauged the extent to which the United
States would retaliate . On December 10 1941, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each ship protects the carrier. Carrier warfare is significant because including air tactics in naval
warfare proved to transform the demeanor of naval battle. Planes have greater range, and a larger
surveillance window. Planes have extensive weaponry and offensive tactics, but it is logistically
difficult for a battleship to attack a plane. Planes have been shown to be effective against submarines .
Van Evera would argue that a doctrine of first strike advantage raises risk of preemptive war . He
would emphasize that secrecy and window of opportunity are two vital aspects to explain the
emergence of carrier warfare. Each attack on the enemy s carrier is designed to hurt the enemy to the
extent that they will no longer be able to return the attack. Secrecy in carrier warfare will not give the
enemy enough time to respond or mobilize. Additionally, windows of opportunity help explain the
success of the Battle of Midway. At the Battle of Midway, Japanese ships were not equipped with
radar . The Japanese ships were refueling when the United States attacked. The Japanese Imperial

Pros Of Confounding
To become a more thorough researcher, one must be able to evaluate and analyze the various
components of their study, including that of the independent and dependent variables, the participants,
the experimental setting. Even during the process of designing one s study, trying to design a study
that does not have confounding variables, it can be a difficult task with much benefits. According to
Halpern et al. (2007), the fundamental goal of psychological research: to discover the causes and
consequences of behavior (Halpern, Roediger, Sternberg, p. 131, 2007). Thusly, for psychological
research to show proper and true results without any alternate explanations, the study must be free of

Having many measures in my study, with multiple readings and questionnaires, the order of the
materials could have become a confound variable. For example, if I were to let participants read the
manipulated trial transcript then complete the questionnaires, they could guess the purpose of the
study (which is not juror decision making). I believe that besides one analyzing their study, having
peer reviews is very beneficial for founding out confounds that could occur in one s study. For my
peer review group, the suggestion of changing the ages was beneficial because not only have I haven t
thought about the issues with the previous ages (18, 23), but I understand why the new ages (17, 21)
are more suitable. With the change of the ages at a more appropriate age, my chances of confounds
have decreased and could decrease suspicions from participants regarding the age difference. This
chapter has also made me aware of what experimental methods to lean on if I wanted to perform a
study that was correlational. Overall, being able to critically analyze the study and make changes to
avoid confounds is the best for experimental and correlational studies to remain internally valid for not
only that current study, but future research as

Pollution Of Beachwater
Beach vacations are an annual summer event for many families. But beachgoers at polluted beaches
around the country may bring back an unwanted souvenir from their trip: ear infections, stomach flu,
skin rashes, and other illnesses that are caused by polluted beachwater.
To help keep our beaches clean, NRDC supports improved beachwater testing to detect the pathogens
that can cause health problems in swimmers.
Bills now pending in Congress would provide funding for much needed beach cleanup efforts and
help ensure that the public is notified promptly when beaches are unsafe for swimming. These bills
will help make sure that our beaches are safe for swimming every day.
Polluted Beaches Can Cause Health
Problems for Swimmers
Beach closings and advisories are at a record high in U.S. coastal waters because of beachwater
contamination from human and animal waste. When it rains, untreated sewage and contaminated
stormwater flow into beachwaters from overflowing sewers, stormwater pipes, and treatment plant
bypasses, carrying human waste, animal waste, trash, and other bacteria laden discharges into the
water where it can make swimmers sick.
The most common health impact of this contamination is severe stomach upset, but swimmers can
also get earaches, pinkeye, respiratory ailments, and even very serious illnesses like meningitis and
hepatitis. Often swimmers don t realize that their illness was contracted while swimming at a
contaminated beach.
Small children, the elderly, pregnant women, and cancer patients and others with weakened immune
systems are most at risk for illness caused by contaminated beachwater. According to the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children under the age of nine had more reports of
diarrhea and vomiting from exposure to waterborne parasites than any other age group

Muscles
Muscles control the process of inhaling and exhaling. The intercostal muscles contract and move the
ribcage up and out while the diaphragm contracts, this increases the pressure inside the thoracic cavity
which causes oxygen to drawn in. when the intercostal muscles relax and move the ribcage down and
in and the diaphragm relaxes, this decreases the pressure inside the thoracic cavity which expels the
carbon dioxide.
Blood
Oxygen enters the blood stream through diffusion in the lungs, the oxygen is carried throughout the
body in the haemoglobin contained in the red blood cells. Carbon Dioxide is carried throughout the
body in the plasma of the blood and leaves the body by diffusion in the lungs.

nominal fee to obtain protection for one year after which point you will then have to decide if filing
for non provisional protection is the next appropriate step.
For those who wish to obtain non provisional protection without having filed an application for

Hawaii’s Renewable Energy Future Essay example
By 2020, Hawaii is aiming to generate 20 percent of its energy from non fossil fuels (Brown et al.
2008, 11). According to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (Arent et al. 2009, 1 2), petroleum
accounts for 90% of Hawaii s energy consumption and 75% of their electricity. Since Hawaii has no
pipelines or oil fields, they are forced to import petroleum to accommodate their energy needs (Arent
et al. 2009, 1). Hawaii is disconnected from the rest of the United States, which means that Hawaii has
to take care of its own energy needs (Croucher 2010, 79).How can alternative energy sources reduce
the need to import of petroleum?

Hawaii has the bioavailability to support biofuels as a renewable resource.
In addition to fuel crops, Hawaii also has abundant resources for biomass heating. During their
research Turn et al. (2002, 4) found that the biomass resources for Hawaii include: swine, dairy, and
poultry manure, sugarcane bagasse and trash, pineapple processing waste, macadamia nut shells,
municipal solid wastes, food waste from commercial food preparation facilities, sewage sludge, and
fat, oil and grease wastes from food preparation activities. One of the main advantages is that biomass
energy can use municipal solid waste. Hawaii also produces about 10 pounds of trash per person
coming to about 1.8 million tons of trash per year (Yap 2008). Hawaii has a power plant that can use
over 2,000 tons of garbage a day to generate electricity (Covanta Energy 2011). Hawaii has decided to
start exporting its garbage to give it enough time to expand the power plant s capacity (Yap 2008).
Smaller scale biomass fueled power generation can help get rid of agricultural and municipal refuse,
while alleviating the strain on the electricity grid and providing a cheap locally based source of
electricity (Turn, Keffer, and Staackmann 2002, 17). If Hawaii develops biomass as a renewable
resource, it can reduce the need to import petroleum and export garbage.
Biomass is not the only renewable alternative option for Hawaii, ethanol can also be produced in
Hawaii. According Keffer et al.(2009, 253), using

fantasy world with a medieval setting that is depicted in many fantasy novels. Sarene is a princess of
the country of Teod and arranges the political marriage of herself to the prince of Arelon. As a
princess, she develops her political savvy and becomes an ambassador for her country at a very young
age. Sarene diverges further from the typical female royal of this world, as she is an accomplished

because of her physical appearance of striking height. Sarene sees her inability to marry previously as
due to a reluctance to have a more intelligent wife from her potential partners. This might sound
arrogant when spoken by the character, but several characters throughout the novel reiterate the truth
of the sentiment. This intelligence is what helps Sarene to establish a better place for women in
Arelon. Sarene does not abandon her femininity or reject all customs of woman during this time. Nor
does she change her sarcastic and curt nature for a more assimilating personality in her everyday
interactions. Only to manipulate does Sarene use an altered persona that so greatly differs from her

The Story of an Hour, by Kate Chopin Essay
The Story of an Hour is a stark display of female rejection of the norms of society. This work, by Kate
Chopin, begins with a woman going through the stages of grief for her husband s death. For the wife,
Louise Mallard, this was an awakening of a new life. This new life is cut short as the information that
led her to believe this news turns our false. Kate Chopin reveals that even the desire for love is
trumped by the need for freedom and independence, through her use of precise diction and syntax, and
symbolism. With respect to word choice, Chopin foreshadows the idea that it was possible that Mrs.
Mallard s husband was not dead at all. From the start she describes the news as possible (79). To
further show this, she chooses to use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is comfortable and roomy (79). These descriptors help the reader to understand the transition she is
going through. Due to the loss of her husband, she now has room to live her life, and to do so
comfortably, without the intrusion or imposition of her husband. The outside world is described as
being aquiver with the new spring life (79). She also describes the feeling of freedom as creeping out
of the sky (80). It is hard for Mrs. Mallard to accept the new feelings of her freedom. The feeling had
to creep due to the fact that her freedom was granted on the premise of her husband s death. This
feeling, however, comes out of the sky as to show the new life promised to her, but it is still hard for
her to believe that she wanted this freedom more than love. This is further displayed by the use of the
phrase monstrous joy (80). The juxtaposition of these words shows very well the emotional state of
Louise Mallard. The joy she is feeling is something that others could call monstrous, but the prison
she was in previously could never be called joyful. Most important is the repetition of the word free
(80). Muttering this under her breath is a sign that she cannot believe what she is even saying. It is at
this moment that she realizes that she is free and can now enjoy her life as an independent person. In
resisting this new emotion Mrs. Mallard was feeling, Chopin describes her as powerless as her two
white slender hands would have been (80).

Environmental Effects Of Mangroves
Mangroves are an essential part of the Tampa Bay Estuary as they help maintain the overall health of
the state s coastal zones. From the 1950s to the 1980s, the Tampa Bay was in its worst condition as a
result of unregulated pollution into the Bay. Environmental regulations beginning in the 1970s with
the Clean Water Act improved conditions in the bay but even today there persists a problem with
pollution and the destruction of natural habitats (Water Resource Management and Environmental
Assessment Restoration, 2014). Today, the Tampa Bay has lost over 44% of its coastal wetlands
acreage, including mangrove forests and salt marshes (Department of Environmental Protection,
2012). There is still decline as waterfront development and pollution threaten the abundance of this
essential tree. If the mangroves disappear from the Tampa Bay estuary, the area will suffer adverse
ecological and economic effects from the reduction of sea life. A reduction of mangrove trees can even
increase damage caused by natural disasters (Sandilyan and Kathiresan, 2012).
In order to maintain the health of these forests and the Tampa Bay Estuary I recommend enacting a
change in the 1996 Mangrove Trimming and Preservation Act to set stricter regulations on the
trimming of mangroves, a reduction on waterfront development, stricter control over pollutants in the
area, and the categorization of areas designated for mangrove growth, restriction, and removal. Failing
to enact these policies will cause

In the article, Lagging Far Behind: Women in the Middle East Judith Colp Rubin (2012), an author,
journalist and publisher, demonstrates the main aspects behind causing inequality between male and
female rights in the Arab World. Colp Rubin clearly states based on certified statistical evidence, that
despite of the basic rights given to females in the Arab region, lack in the equilibrium between both
genders has still been consistent. She demonstrates her claim by referring to the discriminated political
roles given to women in government, to the violence and mistreatment caused by peers in the
surrounding society, and finally in the work field and education. Overall, the detailed ideas, the

The repetitive mentioning of the poll in every section of the article provides a realistic taste to the
reader. This strategy is explained in next paragraphs. The author alters between different subjects in
relating to how women are in politics, successively grabbing the reader s interest. For example,
moving from Quota system, where the author indicates that it was one of the effective methods to
encourage women participation in governments, to how women belong to the justice system and how
they are truly denied as judges. Moving from politics to personal status laws, the author demonstrates
a magnificent effort in dragging the pictures of discrimination and violence to the reader s mind.
Supported by great evidence, the article seems to be more convincing, which results in gaining the
audience s trust. For example, percentage of polygamy, divorce rates, honor killings and the
mentioning of the results of those issues, particularly in the Arab Human Development Report,
contribute in convincing the audience of how serious the subject is. Finally, Colp Rubin concludes
with how women in the Arab world are related to Education the Work Force . Again, the author
successfully manages to view images of discrimination that took place in

Optometry Application Essay
My decision to pursue a degree in optometry started from an unlikely source within the field of
healthcare. I originally aspired to become a pharmacist and had extensive experience as a pharmacy
technician throughout high school and the start of college. As I progressed I became more unsure of
the profession, and did not feel as though as if I was making a difference. Patient interaction was
minimal and I felt that having a more personable connection would make for a better healthcare
professional. I always knew I wanted to become a healthcare professional, I just was not sure
pharmacy was the path for me.
What drew me to the field of optometry specifically is the fact that our eyes can be considered one of
our most precious gifts. Growing up my siblings always needed some sort of corrective lenses, leaving
me in the dark so to speak. When I was younger I suffered a corneal ... Show more content on

I have also come to realize that this particular practice focuses more on disease and disease prevention
juxtaposed to only offering refractions and other optical solutions. This type of practice is what
interests me most in the field of optometry. Having extensive experience in the health field, namely
the field of pharmacy, I was unsatisfied with the level of patient interaction and patient care a
pharmacist can convey toward his/her patients. I understand the field of pharmacy is more complex
than that of a local practice and that I may have been in a particular situation, but I wanted to have
more of a connection with those in need. Being able to see patients at the clinic progress through
treatment is what drew me even closer to the field after I started observing. I know the field of
optometry can give me the opportunity to have a direct effect on patients and their ocular health.
Which is why I have never wanted anything more for myself then to have the chance to become an

John Stuart Mill Essay
Majorities tend to prevent any opportunity that a minority group might have to gain support for a
contradicting opinion. It is incredibly easy for members of society to abandon their beliefs in the midst
of an overpowering majority. This process leads to an unequal society in which the rights of the people
are restricted. In the essays, On Liberty and On Representative Government, written by John Stuart
Mill, there is a concern for the tyranny of the majority. He expresses his concern in, On Liberty, by
supporting an increase in individual liberties. It is expressed again in, On Representative Government,
by promoting a true democracy. Mill proposes remedies for combating this tyranny of the majority,
and further discusses the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To counter this notion of monarchy by majority, Mill offers remedy through individual liberties in, On
Liberty.
By increasing the individual liberties of men in a society, you increase their personal freedom of
forming individual opinions. The less restricted a person s thoughts, the more unique their opinions
become. `In proportion to the development of his individuality, each person becomes more valuable to
himself and is, therefore, capable of being more valuable to others (On Liberty 60). To constrain
someone s thoughts would result in that person becoming more likely to join the majority. Allowing
someone to think for themselves will help acknowledge the voices of all the classes of a society.
Having said that Individuality is the same thing with development and that it is only the cultivation of
individuality which produces, or can produce, well developed human beings... (On Liberty 61).
Despite their fallibilities, an individual is more likely to know what would make him happy than
someone else would. Therefore, if people develop independence of judgment and take responsibility
for their own happiness, utility will be maximized. I regard utility as the ultimate appeal on all ethical
questions; but it must be utility in the largest sense, grounded on the permanent interests of man as a
progressive being (On Liberty 10). Human progress, best

Apostles Persecution
Before the glorified Savior ascended into heaven, He told His Apostles to feed my sheep (John 21:16)
and teach His gospel to the world. And that is precisely what they did, empowered by priesthood
authority from Christ Himself and with personal testimonies of Christ s Atonement and Resurrection.
They fanned out from the Holy Land, teaching and converting people to Christ s Church, meeting with
great success but also suffering tremendous persecution in the process. The Apostles first converts
were other Jews, and indeed many practices of Christ s church mirrored some of the Jewish tradition:
public worship, a religious calendar, an exclusively male priesthood, sacred music, viewing the Old
Testament as scripture, and practices such as fasting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

murder was going to take place in Bexhill on Sea, the next day. Poirot and Hastings had a pretty good
idea that the person to be killed would be one with the last name starting with B, but they could not be
sure.
In the morning they received a report that a murder took place at about midnight. The victim was
Elizabeth Barnard. She had been killed on the beach and another A.B.C. was found near her. There
had been no reports of her missing until the next morning. They now knew that they were up against a
homicidal murderer.

They received a third letter on the 30th. Once again it made fun of Poirot and said that the next murder

The fourth letter said that there would be a murder at Doncastor. All of the closest friends or family

The Sixties Were A Great Decade
1980 1989 The eighties were a great decade so much went on in that time period especially at the
beginning. The eighties started off with the assassination of John Lennon in 1980 which put a sadness
in the music air and then in 1981 Bob Marley another great musician died. Music also changed a lot in
the eighties as well it went from more of a disco in the 70 s to more of a rap sound in the 80 s.
Musicians like Blonde, New Kids on the Block, and Sugar Hill Gangs where introduced in the
eighties. In 1982 Michael Jackson broke away from the Jackson five to come out with his song
Thriller and that song is still very well like even to this day. The music in the 1980 s was constantly
changing with a large genre of music. With most of the 80 s music still well known to most even

The Effects Of Global Warming On The Earth s Atmosphere...
Global warming occurs due to an increase in the average temperature of the earth s atmosphere.
Various reasons as discussed in task 3 lead to the rise in temperature around the earth. The reasons
include deforestation, burning fossil fuels, increase in human population and increase in the amount of
carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses such as methane, chlorofluorocarbons, nitrous oxide and
water vapor in the atmosphere. (Dai, 2013) Greenhouse gasses are produced when fossil fuels or wood
is burned. In other cases, when plants rot, carbon and methane are released into the atmosphere.
Global warming can be controlled through the following ways: preservation of forests, minimal use of
fossil fuels in energy production, efficient use of energy and use of low carbon or zero carbon
technology.
Conservation of forests: Forests can be preserved through prevention of deforestation and through
planting more trees. The importance of forests in controlling global warming applies where the trees
use up carbon dioxide during photosynthesis and therefore reduce the carbon dioxide concentration in
the atmosphere. Carbon, which is a component of carbon dioxide, is stored in the trees and is
necessary for tree growth. Therefore, preservation of trees ensures minimal circulation of carbon and
its products in the atmosphere. (Spies A.S. Mori, 2013) Deforestation has currently become a daily
activity and the number of trees affected is massive. Deforestation can be discouraged through

Speech On Goats
Goats (Capra hircus) One of the earliest animals to be tamed by mankind is goats (Capra hircus). A

which makes them as a very common type of animal. Their physical features include a thick body,
cloven hooves, and horns. In 1758, Carl Linnaeus gave Capra hircus as the goat s Latin name. Goats

South Australia And The Environmental Aspect Of The...
To most, Australia is thought to be mostly an area of sand and dirt roads with kangaroos

a tropical climate, varied between tropical rainforests, grasslands, and part desert. In the south, a
temperate climate and discreetly fruitful soil can be found. With a nation active, large and
variable as Australia, it may be a learning point for the United States of America. With the
legislation and active energy conservation department that is well funded, we may be able to
adapt these ideas and incorporate them into our society and government. However, not

Australia are opposite of those here; for example, their summer is from December to February.
Therefore, S.A s winter is during the months of June August, however rather than snow, an
annual average of 40 inches of rain occurs. Although temperate, most of South Australia
resembles the red rock areas of Colorado and New Mexico where the red land meets the bright

An exception to this desert like landscape is the Southernmost point of South Australia,
known as Kangaroo Island has a rather diverse landscape which includes a beautiful marine life,
caves and caverns, robust fields and majestic deserts. A majority of the Island, and rightfully so,
are homes to several resorts. Between the warm temperatures and clear waters, the island has
become a hot spot for Northern Hemisphere visitors during the months of December to
February. The animals that inhabit this area are just as diverse as the landscape itself including,
but not limited to, pelicans, penguins, dolphins, wallabies, brush tailed possums, ducks, swans
and waders on 267 species of birds found in various habitats on the island, sea lions, New

However, not everything is so crystal clear for South Australia, or the country as a
whole. South Australia is becoming warmer as surface temperature has risen 0.96°C, while
the global average is 0.7°C.

Effectiveness of Public Service Announcements
Introduction
Celebrity endorsements are one of the most famous methods of marketing used today. Celebrity
endorsers are being used in about 25% of all the advertisements that we can see on the television.
Marketers are investing large sums of money to have a contract with the celebrities as they believe
that celebrities can affect the chances of success of a product. (Erica Weintraub Austina*, 2008)

Petty and Cacioppo (1981) have developed the elaboration likelihood model of persuasion which
explains the peripheral route to persuasion and the central route. In the peripheral route, persuasive
influences are more tangential to the issues at hand. For egg in a PSA targeted against smoking in
youth, the peripheral route will show the teenagers having a better sex life after quitting smoking.
(William G. Shadel, January 2009) Central processing occurs when the person at hand is aware about
the main message of the PSA and is motivated to consider its content. We will analyze the use of
celebrities for both these routes of persuasion and try to find out the effectiveness in each case.
A PSA is usually not presented to the audience at the time of action. A PSA is supposed to make the
audience think and act on the message later. Thus human memory plays a very important role in the
success of a PSA. (Shen, Monahan, Rhodes, Roskos Ewoldsen, 2009) If the audience is attracted by a
PSA, likes it but is not able to recollect it later the whole exercise ends in futility. Many researchers
have found that for the message to be effective, retained and used highly credible sources of delivering
the message have to be used and these sources of delivery should be able to create a personal connect
with the audience. (Joseph B. Walther1, 2010)In this context if we are using a public celebrity; he has
his own personality and a public image. We will try to

Sabotage Your Goal
So many people argue that you need to be realistic when you re setting your goals. With dedication,
persistence, and time, you can accomplish any goal you put your mind to doing so. Anything you
decide you will be able to accomplish the biggest or the small goals you set. No matter how big of one
you will be able to complete the goal. I believe that with dedication, persistence, and time, people can
accomplish any goal that they put their mind into doing.
Many people give up on their goals before they even reach it. Some people like to sabotage
themselves by not finishing the goal they have set. For example, you know ahead of time when you
sabotage your goal before it even reaches you. Also, many people will lie and tell other people that

Washington Wizards Business Analysis
The Washington Wizards are one of thirty NBA organizations, and they were founded in 1961. In
1961, they were known as the Chicago Packers before switching their name to the Zephyrs the
following season. Starting in 1963, they moved to Baltimore and were known as the Bullets. They
landed in Washington in 1973 74 as the Capital Bullets and became known as the Washington Bullets
in 1974 75. They kept the Bullets name until 1997 when they became the Washington Wizards (
Wizards History, Online). The Wizards won one NBA championship in the 1977 78 season when they
defeated the Seattle SuperSonics as the Bullets. The organization has been owned by Ted Leonsis
since June 2010 as part of Monumental Sports Entertainment, which also owns and operates the
Washington Capitals, Washington Mystics, the Verizon Center, and the Washington Valor ( Wizards
History, Online). Since January of 2016 I have interned for the Wizards organization in their
basketball operations department. Although I believe the organization runs a smooth operation, there
are certain aspects that call for improvement. The Wizards had ... Show more content on

The organization has experienced changes already this offseason. There have been two employees, the
Vice President of Player Personnel and the Senior Coordinator of Basketball Operations, who have left
the organization this offseason and have not been replaced. In comparison to other NBA organizations
the Wizards basketball operations staff is already small. Thus, with the departures of front office
members, there is room to add a couple coordinators for basketball analytics. The organization should
look to hire individuals who have strong economic, programming, and analytical backgrounds to the
organization. I would advise that the organization simply hire two or three individuals currently, and
potentially expand the department in the

Analysis Of The Movie Anacostia Flats By John Dos Passos
One might say that the Great Depression was a time of despair and feeling vulnerable from those who
lived through it. However, writings have shown that some Americans during this era did not give up
and had an optimistic view as opposed to a pessimistic view. In Anacostia Flats by John Dos Passos, it
shows that the ex service men during the Great Depression had a sense of determination for getting
their bonus. The film 42nd Street demonstrated the tenacious spirit of Americans who worked on a
play during The Great Depression. Meridel Le Seur s Women in the Breadlines depicted the reality of
struggling without employment but having the will to keep trying. During these times, society had not
surrendered as several of them stood up for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theme for 42nd Street could be keep on keeping on as practice does make perfect. It was a time
for when many gave it their all and they never gave up on executing the play. Every single person was
in sync with the music and routines once the performance rolled around. While watching the film, one
would be admired by how determined the people were. Peggy Sawyer, one of the main characters, had
to brave her way as the new lead (while Dorothy the main lead became injured) as she did not want to
let any of her coworkers down. Luckily, she knew every dance move and line to portray her new part.
Otherwise, production would have stopped if there was no lead. Several people would lose their jobs
and everything would have been all for nothing.
Thus, the play became a success after Peggy braved her way as the new lead. Peggy depicted a person
from the Great Depression as having a sense of enthusiasm. America s working people did not resign
to the quarrels of money being an issue. Characters like Peggy showed grace and talent with no sense
of sadness. Her exuberance helped her shine as she performed. During hard times production of plays
were still being made as all the staff of 42nd Street went to work. Julian Marsh also had a rough time
being ill while directing the play. He had money issues as well but continued to produce the play while
in poor health. Characters like Julian portrayed the hard working class of Americans during the Great
Depression who struggled. His

The Institution Of Slavery Structured The Lives Of Black...
Becky Roberts
HIST/WGS 4550
Mid term Essay B
Question #2
March 9, 2015
Discuss the ways in which the institution of slavery structured the lives of black and white women in
the South:
The South was politically, culturally, economically, and spiritually built around the institution of
slavery. In the antebellum South, slavery was the thread that held the fabric of society together and
defined the southern woman. Slavery was the foundation the southern hierarchy was based upon. Race
and gender determined a person s status with white slaveholding males at the top and black female
slaves at the bottom. Slave ownership elevated the status of both male and female genders, giving
white women more power within the slaveholding system. This sense of superiority and power led to
the white women s acceptance for the institution of slavery. Slavery defined white women s place in
society and gave them the belief that it could lead to social hierarchy for them. Affluent white southern
women, or southern mistresses, supported the institution of slavery because of the idea that slave
ownership provided meant you were a part of the elite of the South. Southern plantation mistresses
were the epitome of the ultimate housewives because they were free of the manual labor associated
with their domestic duties and were able to enjoy leisure time to focus on their children and husbands.
However, this picture perfect image was not the reality of the Southern plantation mistress.

Performance Enhancing Drugs In Sport
Problem statement doping.
Performance enhancing drug is now a universal issue that is destroying international sports
competition around the world. For several years the IOC (International Olympic Committee) has tried
to prevent this problem from spreading with very little positive result. A large variety of actions were
taken so as to help to eradicate this issue. Actions like testing ,supportive medical treatment and
educational programs had very little effect on doping. On the other hand professional athletes are now
using unnoticeable and stronger form of doping strategies , while modern connection are being

  • 3. Paul Revere s Ride By Henry Longfellow Figurative Language In the poem, Paul Revere s Ride, the author, Henry Longfellow, uses figurative language, and sound devices to create suspense and tension within the poem. The way he uses the figurative language and sound devices makes readers want to keep reading to find out what will happen next. In Longfellow s famous poem he uses devices such as rhyming, rhyme scheme, and repetition to allow the readers to feel fear and push them to the edge of their seats. Some figurative language the storyteller uses is personification, and similes to compare objects, and fearful moments to something more dramatic. One way Longfellow makes his readers want to read on is using rhyming words at the end of each line in a stanza. For example, in stanza 11, lines 104 110, He heard to bleating of the flock/ And the twitter of birds among the trees/ And felt the breath of the morning breeze/ Blowing over the meadows brown These few lines use peaceful, and soothing words to allow the readers to feel safe. • 4. The Constitution Of A Country s Government In order to state whether I am in favour of this statement or not, it is important to understand the statement itself. Constitution is a set of rules standardising the power and duties of a country s government as well as the rights of its individuals. Currently constitutions come under two key terms; codified and uncodified constitutions. The UK and countries like Israel and New Zealand are a prime example of uncodified constitutions but that is not to say it is unwritten. Uncodified constitution is one that is made up of numerous written sources. Magna Carta , the Bill of Rights , Act of Settlement and Parliament Acts are among those sources used by the UK. Due to the existence of many written sources it would not be accurate to refer to the UK constitution as unwritten instead a more suitable word that can be used is uncodified . Uncodified follows the normal processes for enacting statute law in order to alter or eradicate, the constitution therefore there is no judicial authority. Codified constitution on the other hand, is one that is entrenched and has key constitutional provisions collected within a single document. This type of constitution is referred to as a written constitution. The USA constitution, as an example, was drafted around as lon200 years ago and lays down the rights of American citizens and sets out the power of the government in place. • 6. Essay on Expand Ukraine’s Political Ambitions The month of November in Ukraine was interesting, to say the least. Politically, the Ukrainian President, Viktor Yanukovych attempts to reform amending bills, while also socially ignoring the decline in press freedom. However, a major noteworthy article appeared on the stands: Ukraine goes offshore. This article is probably one of the most important events that occurred in November, which discusses revenue lost on offshore tax schemes. If Yanukovych does not approve of the media associated with the press, he opposes the spreading of the ideas. Unfortunately, Yanukovych seems to acknowledge the fact that he will only allow production of news, journals, pictures, etc., if they portray the truth. The truth, in fact, is quite limited by the strict regulations Yanukovych orders Ukraine s networking companies to follow. As someone living in a free nation, I understand the social liberties that are given to a nation, and how it allows people to globalize their social understandings. Once Ukraine becomes socially deteriorated by Yanukovych s policies, Ukraine will suffer with various downfalls in freedom. I am a strong opponent to this ordeal for these reasons. By definition, it refers to our mental quality consisting of the ability to learn from experience, solve problems, and use knowledge to adapt to new situations. This concept covers the fields of many different aspects of the obstacles we meet in life, and what we are trying to figure out is which side of the argument can support and explain how the idea of intelligence is actually produced. Although some correlational studies show that nature corresponds greatly with peoples intelligence levels, it does not prove causation unless the correlation level is extremely high (somewhere around +0.8 +1.0). • 13. Pollution Of Beachwater Beach vacations are an annual summer event for many families. But beachgoers at polluted beaches around the country may bring back an unwanted souvenir from their trip: ear infections, stomach flu, skin rashes, and other illnesses that are caused by polluted beachwater. To help keep our beaches clean, NRDC supports improved beachwater testing to detect the pathogens that can cause health problems in swimmers. Bills now pending in Congress would provide funding for much needed beach cleanup efforts and help ensure that the public is notified promptly when beaches are unsafe for swimming. These bills will help make sure that our beaches are safe for swimming every day. Polluted Beaches Can Cause Health Problems for Swimmers Beach closings and advisories are at a record high in U.S. coastal waters because of beachwater contamination from human and animal waste. When it rains, untreated sewage and contaminated stormwater flow into beachwaters from overflowing sewers, stormwater pipes, and treatment plant bypasses, carrying human waste, animal waste, trash, and other bacteria laden discharges into the water where it can make swimmers sick. The most common health impact of this contamination is severe stomach upset, but swimmers can also get earaches, pinkeye, respiratory ailments, and even very serious illnesses like meningitis and hepatitis. Often swimmers don t realize that their illness was contracted while swimming at a contaminated beach. Small children, the elderly, pregnant women, and cancer patients and others with weakened immune systems are most at risk for illness caused by contaminated beachwater. • 23. The Story of an Hour, by Kate Chopin Essay The Story of an Hour is a stark display of female rejection of the norms of society. This work, by Kate Chopin, begins with a woman going through the stages of grief for her husband s death. For the wife, Louise Mallard, this was an awakening of a new life. This new life is cut short as the information that led her to believe this news turns our false. Kate Chopin reveals that even the desire for love is trumped by the need for freedom and independence, through her use of precise diction and syntax, and symbolism. With respect to word choice, Chopin foreshadows the idea that it was possible that Mrs. Mallard s husband was not dead at all. From the start she describes the news as possible (79). To further show this, she chooses to use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is comfortable and roomy (79). These descriptors help the reader to understand the transition she is going through. Due to the loss of her husband, she now has room to live her life, and to do so comfortably, without the intrusion or imposition of her husband. The outside world is described as being aquiver with the new spring life (79). She also describes the feeling of freedom as creeping out of the sky (80). It is hard for Mrs. Mallard to accept the new feelings of her freedom. The feeling had to creep due to the fact that her freedom was granted on the premise of her husband s death. This feeling, however, comes out of the sky as to show the new life promised to her, but it is still hard for her to believe that she wanted this freedom more than love. This is further displayed by the use of the phrase monstrous joy (80). The juxtaposition of these words shows very well the emotional state of Louise Mallard. The joy she is feeling is something that others could call monstrous, but the prison she was in previously could never be called joyful. Most important is the repetition of the word free (80). Muttering this under her breath is a sign that she cannot believe what she is even saying. It is at this moment that she realizes that she is free and can now enjoy her life as an independent person. In resisting this new emotion Mrs. Mallard was feeling, Chopin describes her as powerless as her two white slender hands would have been (80). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Environmental Effects Of Mangroves Mangroves are an essential part of the Tampa Bay Estuary as they help maintain the overall health of the state s coastal zones. From the 1950s to the 1980s, the Tampa Bay was in its worst condition as a result of unregulated pollution into the Bay. Environmental regulations beginning in the 1970s with the Clean Water Act improved conditions in the bay but even today there persists a problem with pollution and the destruction of natural habitats (Water Resource Management and Environmental Assessment Restoration, 2014). Today, the Tampa Bay has lost over 44% of its coastal wetlands acreage, including mangrove forests and salt marshes (Department of Environmental Protection, 2012). There is still decline as waterfront development and pollution threaten the abundance of this essential tree. If the mangroves disappear from the Tampa Bay estuary, the area will suffer adverse ecological and economic effects from the reduction of sea life. A reduction of mangrove trees can even increase damage caused by natural disasters (Sandilyan and Kathiresan, 2012). In order to maintain the health of these forests and the Tampa Bay Estuary I recommend enacting a change in the 1996 Mangrove Trimming and Preservation Act to set stricter regulations on the trimming of mangroves, a reduction on waterfront development, stricter control over pollutants in the area, and the categorization of areas designated for mangrove growth, restriction, and removal. It is incredibly easy for members of society to abandon their beliefs in the midst of an overpowering majority. In the essays, On Liberty and On Representative Government, written by John Stuart Mill, there is a concern for the tyranny of the majority. • 34. The Effects Of Global Warming On The Earth s Atmosphere... Global warming occurs due to an increase in the average temperature of the earth s atmosphere. Various reasons as discussed in task 3 lead to the rise in temperature around the earth. The reasons include deforestation, burning fossil fuels, increase in human population and increase in the amount of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses such as methane, chlorofluorocarbons, nitrous oxide and water vapor in the atmosphere. (Dai, 2013) Greenhouse gasses are produced when fossil fuels or wood is burned. In other cases, when plants rot, carbon and methane are released into the atmosphere. Global warming can be controlled through the following ways: preservation of forests, minimal use of fossil fuels in energy production, efficient use of energy and use of low carbon or zero carbon technology. Conservation of forests: Forests can be preserved through prevention of deforestation and through planting more trees. The importance of forests in controlling global warming applies where the trees use up carbon dioxide during photosynthesis and therefore reduce the carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere. Carbon, which is a component of carbon dioxide, is stored in the trees and is necessary for tree growth. Therefore, preservation of trees ensures minimal circulation of carbon and its products in the atmosphere. (Spies A.S. With dedication, persistence, and time, you can accomplish any goal you put your mind to doing so. Anything you decide you will be able to accomplish the biggest or the small goals you set. No matter how big of one you will be able to complete the goal. I believe that with dedication, persistence, and time, people can accomplish any goal that they put their mind into doing. In 1961, they were known as the Chicago Packers before switching their name to the Zephyrs the following season. Starting in 1963, they moved to Baltimore and were known as the Bullets. They landed in Washington in 1973 74 as the Capital Bullets and became known as the Washington Bullets in 1974 75. They kept the Bullets name until 1997 when they became the Washington Wizards ( Wizards History, Online). The Wizards won one NBA championship in the 1977 78 season when they defeated the Seattle SuperSonics as the Bullets. The organization has been owned by Ted Leonsis since June 2010 as part of Monumental Sports Entertainment, which also owns and operates the Washington Capitals, Washington Mystics, the Verizon Center, and the Washington Valor ( Wizards History, Online). Since January of 2016 I have interned for the Wizards organization in their basketball operations department. Although I believe the organization runs a smooth operation, there are certain aspects that call for improvement. The Wizards had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The organization has experienced changes already this offseason. There have been two employees, the Vice President of Player Personnel and the Senior Coordinator of Basketball Operations, who have left the organization this offseason and have not been replaced. In comparison to other NBA organizations the Wizards basketball operations staff is already small. Thus, with the departures of front office members, there is room to add a couple coordinators for basketball analytics. The organization should look to hire individuals who have strong economic, programming, and analytical backgrounds to the organization. I would advise that the organization simply hire two or three individuals currently, and potentially expand the department in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Analysis Of The Movie Anacostia Flats By John Dos Passos One might say that the Great Depression was a time of despair and feeling vulnerable from those who lived through it. However, writings have shown that some Americans during this era did not give up and had an optimistic view as opposed to a pessimistic view. In Anacostia Flats by John Dos Passos, it shows that the ex service men during the Great Depression had a sense of determination for getting their bonus. The film 42nd Street demonstrated the tenacious spirit of Americans who worked on a play during The Great Depression. Meridel Le Seur s Women in the Breadlines depicted the reality of struggling without employment but having the will to keep trying. The theme for 42nd Street could be keep on keeping on as practice does make perfect. It was a time for when many gave it their all and they never gave up on executing the play. Every single person was in sync with the music and routines once the performance rolled around. While watching the film, one would be admired by how determined the people were. Peggy Sawyer, one of the main characters, had to brave her way as the new lead (while Dorothy the main lead became injured) as she did not want to let any of her coworkers down. Luckily, she knew every dance move and line to portray her new part. Otherwise, production would have stopped if there was no lead. Several people would lose their jobs and everything would have been all for nothing. Thus, the play became a success after Peggy braved her way as the new lead. Peggy depicted a person from the Great Depression as having a sense of enthusiasm. America s working people did not resign to the quarrels of money being an issue. Characters like Peggy showed grace and talent with no sense of sadness. Her exuberance helped her shine as she performed. During hard times production of plays were still being made as all the staff of 42nd Street went to work. Julian Marsh also had a rough time being ill while directing the play. He had money issues as well but continued to produce the play while in poor health. Characters like Julian portrayed the hard working class of Americans during the Great Depression who struggled. Becky Roberts HIST/WGS 4550 Mid term Essay B Question #2 March 9, 2015 Discuss the ways in which the institution of slavery structured the lives of black and white women in the South: The South was politically, culturally, economically, and spiritually built around the institution of slavery. In the antebellum South, slavery was the thread that held the fabric of society together and defined the southern woman. Slavery was the foundation the southern hierarchy was based upon. Race and gender determined a person s status with white slaveholding males at the top and black female slaves at the bottom. Slave ownership elevated the status of both male and female genders, giving white women more power within the slaveholding system. This sense of superiority and power led to the white women s acceptance for the institution of slavery. Slavery defined white women s place in society and gave them the belief that it could lead to social hierarchy for them. Affluent white southern women, or southern mistresses, supported the institution of slavery because of the idea that slave ownership provided meant you were a part of the elite of the South. Southern plantation mistresses were the epitome of the ultimate housewives because they were free of the manual labor associated with their domestic duties and were able to enjoy leisure time to focus on their children and husbands. However, this picture perfect image was not the reality of the Southern plantation mistress. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
