Analysis Of Just A Half A Mile From The Mississippi Bridge
The article Just a Half a Mile from the Mississippi Bridge : The Mississippi River Valley Origins of
Rock and Roll was written by Dr. Michael Allen Ph.D. who is a history professor of the School of Arts
and Sciences, at the University of Washington, Tacoma. The article is part of a work that Allen is
currently working on titled, Mississippi River Valley: The Course of American Civilization , which
discusses the significance and relevance of the Mississippi River area in American history. Because
Allen is writing from the geographic distance of the Northwest, he may have a more objective
viewpoint of historical events than someone who is living inside Southern culture. The article was
written in 2015 for the Southern Quarterly, which is a

Contingent Labour Essay
A contingent workforce is a temporary group of workers who work for an organization on a non
permanent basis, also known as freelancers, independent professionals, temporary contract workers,
independent contractors or consultants. The contingent workforce style of labor is becoming much
more popular in the American economy today because of several different contributing factors. The
driving force behind the idea of a contingent workforce is globalization. With the world s economies
becoming increasingly intertwined there is rapid growth in most industries. This results in the need for
a highly knowledgeable and flexible employee. When a company uses a contract worker they gain
these advantages. Another factor that is increasing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By using the contingent strategy knowledge and information are accessed without the expense of
training current employees. Increased competition requires that employers have flexibility in adjusting
employment levels and employment costs to demand for its product or services and in relationship to
its level of operations. With the use of a contingent workforce the organization then gains this needed
flexibility. A savings in cost is often resulted in the outsourcing of the organization s work to
organizations located in foreign countries in which the wage rates are low. The drawbacks to
employing a contingent workforce are: The lack of loyalty to the organization. Being that the
employee is working on a temporary basis; will he or she act in the best interest of the company? The
use of temporary employees will lower moral of the overall organization. Full time employees may
fear the loss of their positions to part time employees. Part time employees lack the knowledge of the
organization s procedures and policies. The cost of training. If a part time employee still requires
training for the position in the organization, the company will only benefit from this in the short term
and then it becomes a sunk cost. I feel that the use of a contingent workforce in the American
economy is a critical segment of how our country s organizations accomplish their goals. With

Summary Of The Second Treatise Of Government By John Locke
John Locke was a 17th century philosopher and political theorist whose work was extremely
influential in establishing what we know today as the United States of America. The Second Treatise
of Government, written by Locke, provided the basis for future political doctrines such as the United
States Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Throughout chapters six through eight,
Locke explains his reasons and belief as to why humans should not confuse paternal power with
political power and why they should be able to live free from the rule of an absolute monarchy, while
still being held accountable by an elected commonwealth, given power to create laws in the best
interest of the society. Locke begins chapter six of The Second ... Show more content on

He states that a political society can only exist when people agree to give up their property and the
right to maintain said property to authority figures placed above them. On the other hand, a civil
society exists when people live under an established law and are able to live in harmony with the
individuals chosen to enforce the laws. Individuals living in a civil society have agreed to give up the
ability to pass judgment on others based on their own personal mistakes and instead give this power to
the elected government. Locke goes on to reinforce the argument that a political society, or absolute
monarchy, has no semblance to a society characterized as civil. In a political society, there is neither
judge nor jury in which to appeal, only an authority figure with absolute power and control who
answers only to himself. Locke writes that members of a political society are given the right to appeal
to the law against each other just as they do in a civil society, but they are not allowed to do so against
the supreme ruler himself. Locke finds it incomprehensible that people would ever create a society
that would give complete and total power to only one

Texas Bad Textbooks
The article How Texas Inflicts Bad Textbooks on Us , written by Gail Collins, gives some of the
reason why texas textbooks are full of biased and the reason why many of this textbooks should be
revised in schools before using them. For example, extremenly rich people have been an influence in
the way that books are written, putting I believe their own personal views and perspectives. The article
gives references to James Leininger, as San Antonio physician promoted a campaign in 1994 by
emailing flyers to voters s homes in one district showing a black man kissing a white man and
claiming that the democratic incumbent had voted for textbooks that promoted homosexuality . This
was just an example of the many objections about the textbook materials, one of them was the concern

exaggerated)... Think back in time, I remember that my history book only made references to race

much to talk about. Not until recently, I found that Rosa Parks was much more than the black lady

Essay About My Best Day
Have you at any point had an exceptionally paramount day that you wish you could remember those
minutes over and over again if you could? Well I do. Everything begins when I attempted this
celebrated surely understood Mexican dish called Birria. My goodness did I begin to look all starry
eyed at this fiery delicious stew meat that I lean toward eating this than any other dish. Be that as it
may, mind you, seafood was my most loved sustenance yet Birria has prevailed upon my heart any
fish dish. I can simply recall the best and absolute best day ever that I had when I was nine years of
age. On August seventh, 2007 my ninth birthday celebration is the thing that has turned this exact day
into my most memorable memory. The day preceding my birthday, August sixth, I was pressing my
gear quickly around 6 o clock pm since I had a flight to take with my folks for my birthday surprise. I
was so energized and anxious to know where me and my family would go. I kept running towards my
father s Nissan auto and sat in the back with my younger sibling clasping her safety belt on her. I
recollect that I was chiming into my most loved Rihanna tune from the radio station so I already knew

Comparing Reality And Identity In The Matrix And The Matrix
Throughout the history of humanity, human have shaped and formed different realities and identities.
Each reality and identity possess its unique purpose which has contributes to develop human history
around the world. The Greek philosopher, Plato, discusses that some identities are eternal forms .
However, the film, The Matrix , suggests that some realities are not eternal forms . If realities are
temporal, identities could also be temporal forms. According to The Matrix, the relationship between
human and machines shows that the reality could be a temporal form. Since the reality is temporary,
the human mainly serves as a power source for the machines when their bodies are connected with
wires and their bodies become codes in part of the matrix. If the human bodies are disconnected with
the wires and machines, their minds are pulled back to the reality in the present, and their identities
form new identities which are different from the matrix. Perhaps, their true identities finally return to
the bodies. In the matrix, human are under the slavery system created by the machines, and their
identities are trapped into false realities created by the matrix. If human bodies and minds are
disconnect, they could have a completely new reality with different identities beside the ones they
have in the matrix. Therefore, identities are just temporary and can be changed when human minds
and bodies recognize that they are in different realities created by numerous. However, Karl Marx, a
German author, states that [t]he history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles
(Marx, 62). He identifies history as class struggles which categorize the people from different classes
in eternal forms as Plato thinks about identities. In Marx s The Communist manifesto, he introduces
two classes, which are Proletariat and Bourgeois. The Proletariat works for Bourgeois, but the
Bourgeois owns the majority of the capital. In Bourgeois society, there is a gap between rich and poor,
and being poor becomes a consent struggle for the Proletariat. In this society, the Bourgeois has the
identity of being rich, and the Proletariat owns the identity of being poor. As long as the Bourgeois
exists, the

Science, Technology And The Nightly News Essay
Science, Technology and the Nightly News
Introduction
It s not uncommon for a news audience to run across stories or headlines about science that seem too
good to be true. Headlines such as, Scientist Say Smelling Farts Might Prevent Cancer, (Stampler,
2014) or Bananas as good as drugs for treating HIV, say scientists. (Arkless Gray, 2010) Not only are
these headlines flashy enough to get the attention of a wide audience, but they go beyond distributing
the facts to wade into the waters of Yellow Journalism. In fact, much of the news distributed today
might be considered such milky fare even by passive audience members. A 2013 Pew Research Center
study found that 31 percent of U.S. adults have left a news outlet that no longer meets their needs. The
reason for the exodus? More than 60 percent say the stories are less complete while another 23.5
percent claim there are fewer stories provided by these news outlets. One might wonder how such
claims could be made in these times of 24 hour news cycles and breaking news distributed across the
web through social media at warp speed. A closer look at the same Pew study reveals a startling fact
about factual news content on cable news channels. Of the big three cable news channels (CNN, Fox
News and MSNBC) only one provides more than 50 percent of factual news content. The others go
beyond the half way mark in providing commentary or opinion. MSNBC was found to provide a
whopping 85 percent of commentary/option content

Employment generation through construction of rural roads, and ground water and minor irrigation to
support food security received much higher priority compared to need to enhance logistics to support
industrial growth and improving overall economic efficiency.
In five year plans a major goal was to connect all villages (with population of more than 1,500
inhabitants) with rural road network; however, this was done through minimum needs program
supporting employment creation and leading to waste and inefficiency. Most of the roads thus created
did not meet quality standards because fiscal space was not adequate to accommodate both the
demand for resources for rural roads and also the national highway network which was getting
congested. Even in the case of power sector, village electrification was a priority so as to provide
power for the farms, but not necessarily to households. Emphasis on connectivity, without
improvements in overall economic efficiency meant unsustainable financial burden on the government
budgets. In the time of slower economic growth or external shocks such as wars and high oil prices,
infrastructure investments were major casualty. China with its high economic growth rates and higher
savings rates was able to allocate much larger resources for investments in general. In the 1980, China
saved 35% of GDP whereas India s savings rate was less than half at 15.5%. This combined, with

The people s lack of morals led to an even more severe issue, a severe decline in population because
of urbanization and industrialization that was under way (L.C). To ensure the economy s increase,

abortion policy. The policy was introduced in 1966 with the description of ... prohibited abortion on

Commercial Whaling
Make the case for the resumption of commercial whaling as an international policy. Commercial
whaling has an abundant amount of utilizations. The main utilizations include food use, commercial
use (whale watching), animal feed and fertilizer use, cosmetic use, and pharmaceutical use. While not
popular in most countries, countries like Alaska, Iceland, Norway, and Japan have whale meat on their
menus. There are also other indigenous people and people in Inuit tribes who depend on whale meat as
their main source of food. Within the pharmaceutical field, Russia, Norway, and Japan are counties
that take on studies for the medical uses of whale. Some of these uses are whale oil (omega 3s acid)

In my opinion, every species, including humans, is a part of the food chain. Whether or not humans
are at the top of the food chain isn t what is important when it comes to the relationship between us
and whales. We have the technology and intelligence to kill whales and use them at important
resources, including food, wax (for candles and cosmetics), and pharmaceuticals. We should be taking
every advantage we get to further develop our knowledge of whale oil, meat, and cartilage. I believe
that we should use every opportunity to better our lives, but that does not include kill whales
recreationally. There is no excuse for that, just like there is no excuse for kills of dogs, zebras, or
pandas. Unless it is for survival, no one should be killing an animal for fun. That saying, there is a
point when we will have to stop commercial whaling. The whale population has been an interesting
trend to research. Whale population has been very high and very low in the past couple centuries. My
opinion is that we should have a set number of whales that we can take out of the ocean each year. If
that number starts to cause a decline in the population, it should be set lower. If the population
becomes endangered, I believe that whaling should stop immediately. I could imagine having to
describe to the next generation what a whale looks like because there aren t any to show

Summer Sleep-Away Camps
Summer Time Fun As adults, we spend a lot of time away from our family and friends due to work or
other priorities in our life. We learn to adapt and keep going through these times of being away and
this can make us a greater person. Summer sleep away camp is much like a longer version of a
sleepover and can be a great head start for children who may not be away from their family and
friends much. This leads me to feel that summer sleep away camps have positive effects on children
and should even be considered important to the development of a child.
For me, the biggest reason for summer sleep away camps is to help the child develop more. Camps
offer more life experience that are likely to come up in later adulthood. For instance, when I was
younger I went to a camp for a whole month! I was terrified of being away from my parents for that
long, however I overcame this fear and I was able to gain many great experiences and tools I use

While it is true the child will miss some time with their friends and families, they will however be
making new friends and new memories. These new memories and friends may even allow the child to
show their friends and family new ideas and tricks that improve family life. The child gains new
friends and this is a positive effect especially if the child struggled before with making friends, or even
if the child is shy this is a benefit because they are meeting others who will have something in
common with them.
Going to a sleep away camp is a very beneficial thing for children of all ages. They allow children to
gain new life experiences, new friends, and a better outlook toward adulthood. This in turn can lead to
a better life for the child and their family. Summer sleep away camps should be a very serious
consideration for any child.

Q1 How serious is the threat of DJC to American Connector Company?
Answer The threat of DJC to American Connector Company is very high. Following are the reasons:
Ø If DJC sets up manufacturing base in USA, as per the exhibit 7 and exhibit 8 the raw material cost
for DJC in USA will drastically reduce. Current Raw material product and packaging cost is 14.89
which will reduce to 8.93 in USA.As the raw material cost is almost half of the total finished goods
cost, the raw material cost reduction would be substantial. Cost head | KAWASAKI ($/1000 Units) |

Q3: What accounts for these differences? How much of the difference is inherent in the way each of
the two companies competes? How much is due strictly to differences in the efficiency of the
operations?
Answer
a) There are many reasons for these differences:
Ø Fixed Asset utilisation: Due to continuous factory runtime, the overall utilisation of fixed asset
increases for DJC Kawasaki in comparison ACC Sunnyvale s plant.
Ø Raw material cost: In Japan raw material cost is twice as much high as in America.
Ø Production Process: Due to batch production system in ACC, there were changes required in
production line every time product was changed which lead to less efficiency and lower expertise in
churning out a product. This issue was not there with DJC continuous production process with lesser
number of product variations.
Ø Quality issues: The number of defective finished goods is very less for DJC when compared to
ACC.
b) The basic differences are:

The Battle of the Bulge Essay
The Battle of the Bulge
The post D Day Allied assault that swept through France was halted by Hitler s unexpected counter
attack through the Ardennes, resulting in a confrontation named the Battle of the Bulge.
The Allied battle front in the autumn of 1944 made an end to the war by Christmas look likely. They
had liberated most of France in a matter of months, and were now marching towards the Ruhr River,
which was the gateway to the heartland of Germany. However, the Allies had moved so far so fast that
their supply lines had not caught up with them. The closest dock was where they had landed on D
Day, and the need for a closer port became more persistent everyday. During the Overlord campaign,
which was the landing in France, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He complied, however, and sent the Canadian First Army. The British XII division was then sent in as
reinforcements. The German defenders were comprised mainly of the 15th Army who had escaped
advancing enemy by ferrying over the Schelde. By the end of the battle, Montgomery had lost thirteen
thousand men. Antwerp, the prize of the assault, was still heavily defended by mines, and it took
months to actually open the vitally important port (Goalrick 27).
Farther south, General Hodges First Army Group was preparing to breach the West Wall and take
Aachen, a very important and historical city to the Germans. His attack began on October 2nd, and
was a very difficult battle. Two German Panzer divisions were sent to garrison the city. Hodges broke
through though on October 21st, marking Aachen as the first major German city to fall into Allied
hands (Goalrick 28).
On the German side, Hitler was running out of options. Russia has destroyed twenty five German

GENESIS AND ANCIENT MYTHS OF THE NEAR EAST
When one approaches the biblical text, it is important to explore the cultural context in which the text
occurs. With regard to the Book of Genesis, it is important to examine the writing with other
contemporary works of similar geography and topics. The people of ancient Mesopotamia, where the
oldest civilizations originated, produced a number of stories of creation and natural occurrences. It is
important to note that many of the stories of the Sumerians, Akkadians and Hebrews began as oral
traditions as the events they depict predate writing, so it is difficult to date these works on the basis of
when these prehistoric myths were initiated. Comparison to writings contemporary to the people of
Israel, can offer a deeper understanding of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just as there existed beings outside of creation in the Enuma Elish, the Hebrew God was present prior
to the formation of the world. As the universe becomes defined in the following stages, the
development described in each of the stories show a resemblance in events and the order in which they
occurred. It is important to note that light existed, in both stories, independent of celestial bodies.
Next, in same order, the sky and ground are created, followed by luminaries or the sun, moon and
stars. The fact that the sequence of the creation stories is nearly identical can hardly be accidental
according to some scholars. Subsequently, man is created with elements of divinity, given the task of
working the soil . At the conclusion of each creation story, the deities rest from their work. While it is
necessary to refrain from exaggerating the influence found in these similarities, it is equally essential
to remain open to the understanding that these works emerged within a similar conceptual world .
Though many similarities in the creation stories of Genesis and the Enuma Elish, the divergences are
much more far reaching and significant . Unlike the gods of depicted in the Enuma Elish who were
coexistent and coeternal with the comic matter , the Hebrew God is transcendent and separate from the
substance of the cosmos, having Himself created it. While the Hebrew God exists in eternity past,

Famous American Informative Speech
Be sure you put your feet in the right place, then stand firm. That s what Abraham Lincoln once said
when he was alive. There are 3 reasons about why I believe that we should tear down the monuments
of a famous American. What Abraham meant by his famous quote is that people should defend the
right things instead of the wrong issues. My three reasons why include not recreating the past, a
protest between blacks and whites, and nevertheless, another civil war. To begin with, one of my
reasons why I say that we should tear down the monuments is not to recreate the past. The reason why
I say that is because in the past, many things happen to black people such as slavery and they ve been
dealing with segregation for a long time. For instance, in Charlottesville over the past weekend, there
was a protest between a group of KKK, neo Nazi, and white supremacists fighting and chanting you
will not replace us. We should tear it down so people won t be able to think about the past and start to
say a fight and say hateful things about other races. Some of the people in the world don t like people

The Marketing Mix 1: Products, Brands Their Distribution
Question 1: Explain what Fournier means by having a relationship with a brand.
Establishing a relationship with a product brand sounds like a strange thing, we often have numerous
relationships with the brands of products we purchase without even knowing why we do. The article
by Fournier plainly defines that for a relationship with a brand to exist there must be some kind of
interdependence between the product and the partner. The interdependence with the brand may be
emotionally, economically, Robert B. Hinde (1979) best defines this interdependence relationship;

The two brands I have chosen from the product categories are a dentist and auto repair. Let s first look
at the dentist and try and decipher if a customer could have a relationship with this provided service.
When you visit the dentist you can pretty much say that it becomes a personal experience. When you
allow someone to open your mouth and stick sharp objects in it, you must or have developed some
kind of relationship with that individual. That relationship may have been established over time
through quality service or you have visited this dentist as a kid. How does this apply to someone who
visits this dentist for the first time? A bond of trustworthiness must be initially established by a first
time customer to complete the dyad. When dealing in a human to human interaction, and especially
with a medical procedure being accomplished, relationships are essential. Both parties in this dyad are
essentially providing a service to each other which clearly establishes a formed relationship with this
service or individual brand.
When trying to define a relationship with an auto repair service brand I believe that there is also a
clear relationship in this matter also. Trustworthiness is also a major factor in this relationship, who
would want to take their automobile to an auto repair service that they do not

Race Relations Between African Americans and Whites...
Following what was arguably the most turbulent time in American history; Reconstruction had far
reaching effects on a number of areas of life in the United States. In the Deep South, one of the
clearest impacts could be seen on racial relations, specifically between whites and newly freed African
Americans. Legally, dramatic changes had been made at the federal level, providing African
Americans with a host of rights that had never been offered them before. It was no wonder, then, that
former slave owners in the South rejected these changes and rights, taking whatever steps necessary to
keep African Americans down. The dramatic changes that took place in terms of race relations

Legally, the passage of the Fifteenth Amendment just a few years after the close of the Civil War,
African American men had the right to vote according to the United States Constitution. However,
racial relations in the south had deteriorated so greatly that even such constitutionally protected
elements of their lives were unable to survive. Whites passed a number of laws designed to
disenfranchise African American men, knowing that without the right to vote, the voices of newly
freed slaves would not be heard. These laws included such measures as literacy tests, poll taxes,
property qualifications, and so called grandfather clauses that denied an individual the right to vote if
their grandfather did not vote himself. Race relations in the south had deteriorated so rapidly that even
something as basic as voting, something that was to be provided to African American men according
to the United States Constitution, was denied them ( The state... , 2011). As individuals living in the
north became increasingly disinterested with the plight of African Americans in the south, a political
change was made, one that would alter the racial relations between whites and blacks for generations.
In 1896, the United States Supreme Court issued a ruling in Plessy v. Ferguson that would set the
stage for continued segregation in the American south with three simple words: separate but equal.

concussions, with the last concussion I was told that I cannot play contact sports anymore. I would
like to look into what plastics could do to improve the safety in these games whether it be football or
any of the major sports in America today. There have been major developments in player safety over
the past few years as many past players are having issues that are related to the game they played.

Each one of these things came from necessity. The main goal is to keep the body safe at all times no
matter the sport. NASCAR has been a sport that evolves constantly because of accidents that are a part
of the sport. The walls have been rebuilt at most of the major speedways on the circuit because of the
major crashes that have occurred. One of the greatest drivers ever died in a crash that led to a safer
helmet and better seat restraints. Sports are always going to be evolving and plastics are allowing them
to become safer without changing the way the games are played. Which is a main reason that the NFL
is hesitant to make any major changes to the equipment such as taking away facemask or helmets in
general which are ideas that have been brought up.
So right now a major word being thrown around is the concussion, it is a completely serious thing that
needs to be addressed by every sport. The NFL has been studying it and has work on the helmet
technology that it uses. Recent articles have come out saying that the helmet may actually be
encouraging the concussions to occur (Shankman) . The modern helmet is made from PC or
Polycarbonate which is a plastic that is extremely difficult to crack. One major problem with PC is the
fact that it does not disperse force well. Therefore it actually is helping players get traumatic brain
injuries (TBIs). The traditional helmet is made of a PC layer that is injection molded and a layer of 2

No need for a lot of middle management, because the employees will manage each other and

money in the long run. The workers union in a non self directed workforce gave them headaches. The

NFL Players Should NOT Blame For Traumatic Brain Injuries
Although there is a growing feud between National Football League (NFL) players, their families, and
the league itself concerning claims that management should be held responsible for the physical
deterioration of former players, others claim that players knew the risks involved when they decided
to play the game, therefore the NFL should not be held accountable for their injuries. Given the fact
that there are not many sports as physically demanding on the human body as football, NFL players
should be allowed to sue the NFL for concussions sustained while playing football. It would seem that
NFL players that are retired should not sue just because they could have been at risk for head injuries.

As a result former football players are experiencing health issues. Sports news headlines have been
abundant with stories concerning former NFL players currently suffering from headaches, loss of
memory, dementia, and early Alzheimer s (Ellenbogen, 2010;Neumann, 2011). Even though the
devastation of concussions is just beginning to rise to the surface, they have always been around.
There appear to be several recent cases involving former and current NFL players committing suicide
that was influenced by some of the suffering due to medical maladies associated with playing football
(Amen, 2011). Many skeptics of football related concussions have indicated such health issues are
coincidental and people commit suicide for different reasons; or that early Alzheimer s as well as
dementia are known to develop with age (Casson, 2010). Recently attention has been given to the fact
that there may be a link between various cases (Nowinski, 2006). Consequently, each of these players

several of these concussions were documented, players were forced to sit out for a few plays;

Research Paper On Andrew Jackson And The Battle Of New...
Andrew Jackson and The Battle of New Orleans Andrew Jackson is widely known for his time as our
seventh president, however, he started off as a general and led the famous Battle of New Orleans. The
war started when American ships were targeted for search and attack by the British Navy. The United
States were outnumbered, yet in the end, we still reigned victorious. By uniting Americans, Native
Americans, and the Baratarian pirates the British were defeated and the treaty of Ghent was signed
and made official, ending the war of 1812.
The War of 1812 (Conflict) The war of 1812 started for many reasons, however, one of the main
reasons was British navy stopping and searching American ships for former British sailors who
abandoned their ships and forcing people to fight for them. Another reason for the war s start was
because motivation of the war hawks of the US congress to go to war with great Britain was their need
to totally expel Great Britain from the remaining land still under British domain on the North
American Peninsula, (Tim Nash). This need to push Britain out of the North American peninsula
helped the USA grow to be what it is today. As the war heated, America grew its army to include not
only Americans, but also had the Baratarian pirates and some Native American tribes, though most
sided with the British hoping for independence. [After many American victories, it was time to take

A Thousand Splendid Suns By Khaled Hosseini
In Khaled Hosseini s novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns, women live in an oppressive, discriminatory
Afghan society in which they are deemed useless and obtain little to no rights, yet still manage to
endure the burden that falls upon them. After the immensely false interpretations of her father and the
bitter fatality of her mother, Mariam s father demands she marries a stranger considerably older than

exceedingly unappreciative and disrespectful when Laila produces a female instead. Rasheed and the

Mariam is in absolute disbelief when Jalil s wives instruct her to marry a forty five year old man

Superego Thoughts In William Golding s Lord Of The Flies
Id is thoughts that are driven by desire (devil on the shoulder), Ego is a state of being, and Superego
thoughts that are driven by your consciousness (angel on the shoulder). These three categories were
created by the psychologist Sigmund Freud. His theory can be applied to William Golding s book
Lord of the Flies. This novel follows the story of schoolboys between the ages of six to twelve who
crash on an island, and fall into savagery. As the boys spend more time on the island, their consciences
start to fade away and they start to return to their primitive and savage ways. The reason why
communities break up is because the id is taking over in each of the boys and starts to dominate their
minds based on primitive instincts. Some may argue that their super egos are still intact to make
decisions based on their consciousness, but at the end the only the id leads.
Seeing that they start forgetting their human instinct that they had when they were with society and
not on a island. When they first crash landed on the island, the boys first human instinct was to find
ways to survive. When they first were trying to find ways to survive Jack says We ll get food, cried
Jack. Hunt. Catch things.... Until they fetch us. (Golding pg 30) Jack s first instinct was to find food to
satisfy their hunger, this also sparked his urge to kill.Though they started by finding ways to survive,
they later start to not give attention to important things(like shelter) but instead they go and hunt.

developing a sales forecast, especially for an organization with a new innovation that has no product

Some of the variables that must be considered regarding the pharmaceutical industry might include

whether a given patient will actually fill the prescription and use the medication might include the side
effect profile as well as the dosing schedule. If the pharmaceutical is for a child, the taste of the
product would also be a factor to consider, as a competitor may have a better tasting drug that the
consumer is more likely to buy in order to increase compliance despite the better efficacy of the

Uranium Mining in Australia Essay
To what extent should there be limitation on the mining of uranium in Australia ?
Uranium has become a big issue as an alternative energy resource in the future due to the shortage of
fossil fuel as a primary energy resource in the world. Australia is one of country that has the largest
uranium deposits in the globe. So, Australia has important opportunity to make a lot of money from
uranium exports to other countries. However, the Australian Government is still debating this issue
because of the negative impact of uranium mining and exploration. For these reason, some people
believe that uranium mining has more positive impacts on the economy such as, income benefits from
uranium exports and an increase a new job opportunities. However, ... Show more content on

They also point out that the industry has forty per cent of the world uranium reserves. Based on that
reasons, the uranium industry in Australia could make a big profit from export of uranium if the
government takes it seriously. Also, they should be good regulation for uranium trading such as local
trading and international trading. So, some people think that there should not be limitations on mining
of uranium. Another argument against the limitations on uranium mining in Australia is that uranium
mining can increase job opportunities to local people in Australia. According to Greenpeace Australia
Pacific (2006), the uranium industry could create a large number of job opportunities because this
industry needs a lot of employees to support this industry. If the Australian Government expands its
uranium mining, it will create potential local jobs and it would be one solution to solve the
unemployment problem. So, some people believe that the limitation of uranium mining is not
necessary because it can reduce job opportunities in Australia. These economic concerns are important
in the uranium mining debate because the Australian Government can make huge profits from that
industry and solve the unemployment problem as well. However, there are some important aspects
that must be considered such as, uranium as the main material for nuclear weapons, nuclear power is
not efficient or effective, and there is harmful radiation from the mining of uranium. The first reason

Betty Samuelson Issues
The movie North Country was inspired by Jenson v. Eveleth Taconite Co. a Supreme Court Case that
changed sexual harassment in the workplace. In the film, North Country, Josey Aimes, a single mother
of two, is one of the first women to work at an iron mine in Minnesota. After being abused by her ex
husband, Josey moves in with her parents in Northern Minnesota and starts working in an iron mine.
This was the first time that the iron mines of North Minnesota hired female miners. During this time
females who were working in the mines were being constantly harassed by their male coworkers who
believe that, that was not a women s work. This sexual harassment included uncomfortable situations,
insults, sexual language and physical abuse and psychological ... Show more content on

According to Betty Samuelson, it is illegal to for employers to discriminate on the basis of race, color,
religion, sex, or national origin (351). In the film women were being discriminated based on their sex,
which according to Samuelson is disparate treatment (351). Working in mines was consider only for
males and when women start working at the mines they suffer all types of injustices. In the film, the
dirties and hardest jobs were given to women, jobs that men didn t want to do. Women didn t have a
voice to speak about their concerns and needs as workers, they were keep under men s control. The
next concept is sexual harassment which refers to unwelcome sexual advances, request for sexual
favors, or other verbal or physical conduct of sexual nature that are so severe and pervasive that other
interfere with an employee s ability to work (353), this can also be defined as hostile work
environment. Hostile work environment refers to, a work environment that is so hostile toward people
in a protected category that it affected their ability to work (353).This concepts apply to the film
because Josey and her coworkers were sexually harassed at their work. They suffered many physical
threatening, assaults and abuses by their male coworkers. They find obscenities written with
excrement and sexually explicit pictures on the walls. Find sex toys hidden in their lunch boxes.

Attorney General V. Delaware Case Study
First and foremost, is the issue of jurisdiction regarding the recent cyber scam targeting Delaware
citizens. As evidenced in previous cases, the Attorney General would be within his jurisdiction to
prosecute the defendant within the state of Delaware. Assuming due process was upheld, and no
Fourth or Fifth Amendment rights were violated in the acquisition of evidence, the Attorney General
should have no obstacles in pursuing both criminal and civil actions against the defendant. Finally, the
Attorney General should be able to select a venue within the state of Delaware, if no conflict arises
between the defense and prosecution. Regarding jurisdiction, the primary issue in this case is that of
personal jurisdiction. Personal jurisdiction refers to the court s authority to call the defendant into the
judicial process, rather than a geographic location or item (Craig, 2013). Fortunately, there has already
been a precedent set by the United States Supreme Court that applies in this particular case. In
International Shoe Company v. Washington, 326 U.S. U.S. 310 (1945), the Supreme Court established
a system of minimum contacts as the primary jurisdictional test for establishing personal jurisdiction
(Craig, 2013). This ruling simply establishes that a state can exercise jurisdictional power, if the
defendant has kept ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, the victims of the cyber scam are all residents within the state of Delaware. As such, there
should be no dispute about the state of Delaware as the primary venue for court proceedings.
However, if there is a dispute about which venue to use within the state of Delaware, a forum selection
clause may be employed to solve the dispute. If the defense feel that a venue is unfair towards their
client, a contract known as a forum selection clause can be used to come to an agreement about a local
venue (Craig,

Using Empathy In Psychosocial Psychology
Empathy is an important tool in all parts of life, both personally and professionally. Empathy is both a
tool and a state of mind, which allows us to understand other people s points of view. By using
empathy, we can better understand the people around us, weather they are friends or clients. Many
jobs rely on using empathy to connect with their clients, whether they be Doctors or work in
advertising, being able to understand the feeling, fears, and points of view of other people is
imperative in the world of business. Without empathy it s hard to from connections with people, and
you can come off as cold and unpleasant to work with. The job that I am currently studying for,
psychologist, forming connections using empathy is a basic and crucial ... Show more content on

For instance, being able to connect to, and relate to a patient with depression is essential if you want
them to be able to open to you and share what the root of their problems are. Even when conducting
labs empathy is useful, not only to help relate to, and better understand the data that your participants
give you, but by using empathy your assuring that the study is staying ethical. Having an in depth
understanding of empathy as a psychologist is useful when trying to solve a problem between two
patients, and by using my knowledge of empathy I would be able help them understand how each
other feel about what ever situation is causing the problem. Another way empathy is useful in
psychology is if you are working within a prison, and are trying to help rehabilitate criminals. By
using empathy, it could be possible to designed a program that could teach empathy to violent
criminals inside of prisons, and eventually help them reenter society. Empathy is a necessary part
when working in psychology, but having too much empathy can also be dangerous for a

Enron s Impact On Enron
In 1985, two companies, Houston Natural Gas, and InterNorth merged to form Enron. Kenneth Lay
wanted to create a company that can supply electricity and natural gas at a much lower price. As time
went on, Enron ranked as the nation s sixth largest energy company with global internet trading
commodities in plastics, steel, petrochemicals and waste water to name a few (Fusaro, 2000, p. 157).
From the time they merged to form Enron up to the point of their collapse, Enron s executive
committee had squandered many of the company s assets through bad strategies, hiding money, and
creating an illusion of a stable financial company.
Most of the top executives overstated Enron s earnings by several million dollars (Niskanen, 2005)
causing the company s stockholders to lose millions of dollars. Kenneth Lay who joined InterNorth,
later renamed Enron, in 1985 became the CEO the following year. In 1990, Kenneth Lay hired Jeff
Skilling to work in the operations department. Jeff Skilling would eventually take over Enron in 2001
as there Chief Executive Officer, replacing Kenneth Lay (Zimmerli, Richter, Holzinger, 2007, p. 131).
There was no oversight in Enron s top managerial positions. Most of Enron s top executives controlled
all the schemes and allowed the accounting to create fraudulent documents to hide the losses from
investors. Enron was a public company which was run by Kenneth Lay and Jeffery Skilling. They
made up the top executive board which dealt in providing the means and

Minister s Black Veil Allegory
Analysis of Hawthorne s Use of Allegory An allegory is a literary tool in which characters, events, and
setting represent something spiritual or abstract, and, when used properly, an allegory can greatly
portray an idea under the guise of something material and tangible. American writer Nathaniel
Hawthorne shaped an entire career on the use of allegories in order to portray his disdain of Puritan
ideology; however, his use of this literary device did not come without scrutiny and criticism. Other
American authors like Edgar Allan Poe criticized Hawthorne s allegories. Like how Poe revealed his
antipathy towards the literary tool in his critique of Twice Told Tales and professed that Hawthorne is
a writer of truest genius but lacks the skills ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hawthorne was very critical of Puritan ideas, he even wrote a novel known as The Scarlet Letter in
which he uses a scarlet letter A for adulterer to symbolize the sin of Hester Prynne and is the cause of
Prynne s ostracization. Hawthorne did not like the idea that there was an elect or set group of people
chosen by God to go to Heaven, whereas the rest are left to burn in Hell. Thus, Hawthorne used the
image of Hooper s black veil to show the possibility of sin in even the purest of chosen ones and to
combat the idea that certain people are worthier than

Analysis Of Just A Half A Mile From The Mississippi Bridge The article Just a Half a Mile from the Mississippi Bridge : The Mississippi River Valley Origins of Rock and Roll was written by Dr. Michael Allen Ph.D. who is a history professor of the School of Arts and Sciences, at the University of Washington, Tacoma. The article is part of a work that Allen is currently working on titled, Mississippi River Valley: The Course of American Civilization , which discusses the significance and relevance of the Mississippi River area in American history. Contingent Labour Essay A contingent workforce is a temporary group of workers who work for an organization on a non permanent basis, also known as freelancers, independent professionals, temporary contract workers, independent contractors or consultants. The contingent workforce style of labor is becoming much more popular in the American economy today because of several different contributing factors. The driving force behind the idea of a contingent workforce is globalization. With the world s economies becoming increasingly intertwined there is rapid growth in most industries. This results in the need for a highly knowledgeable and flexible employee. When a company uses a contract worker they gain these advantages. Another factor that is increasing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By using the contingent strategy knowledge and information are accessed without the expense of training current employees. Increased competition requires that employers have flexibility in adjusting employment levels and employment costs to demand for its product or services and in relationship to its level of operations. With the use of a contingent workforce the organization then gains this needed flexibility. A savings in cost is often resulted in the outsourcing of the organization s work to organizations located in foreign countries in which the wage rates are low. The drawbacks to employing a contingent workforce are: The lack of loyalty to the organization. Being that the employee is working on a temporary basis; will he or she act in the best interest of the company? The use of temporary employees will lower moral of the overall organization. Full time employees may fear the loss of their positions to part time employees. Part time employees lack the knowledge of the organization s procedures and policies. The cost of training. If a part time employee still requires training for the position in the organization, the company will only benefit from this in the short term and then it becomes a sunk cost. I feel that the use of a contingent workforce in the American economy is a critical segment of how our country s organizations accomplish their goals. With ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Summary Of The Second Treatise Of Government By John Locke John Locke was a 17th century philosopher and political theorist whose work was extremely influential in establishing what we know today as the United States of America. The Second Treatise of Government, written by Locke, provided the basis for future political doctrines such as the United States Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Throughout chapters six through eight, Locke explains his reasons and belief as to why humans should not confuse paternal power with political power and why they should be able to live free from the rule of an absolute monarchy, while still being held accountable by an elected commonwealth, given power to create laws in the best interest of the society. Locke begins chapter six of The Second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He states that a political society can only exist when people agree to give up their property and the right to maintain said property to authority figures placed above them. On the other hand, a civil society exists when people live under an established law and are able to live in harmony with the individuals chosen to enforce the laws. Individuals living in a civil society have agreed to give up the ability to pass judgment on others based on their own personal mistakes and instead give this power to the elected government. Locke goes on to reinforce the argument that a political society, or absolute monarchy, has no semblance to a society characterized as civil. In a political society, there is neither judge nor jury in which to appeal, only an authority figure with absolute power and control who answers only to himself. Locke writes that members of a political society are given the right to appeal to the law against each other just as they do in a civil society, but they are not allowed to do so against the supreme ruler himself. Locke finds it incomprehensible that people would ever create a society that would give complete and total power to only one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Comparing Reality And Identity In The Matrix And The Matrix Throughout the history of humanity, human have shaped and formed different realities and identities. Each reality and identity possess its unique purpose which has contributes to develop human history around the world. The Greek philosopher, Plato, discusses that some identities are eternal forms . However, the film, The Matrix , suggests that some realities are not eternal forms . If realities are temporal, identities could also be temporal forms. According to The Matrix, the relationship between human and machines shows that the reality could be a temporal form. Since the reality is temporary, the human mainly serves as a power source for the machines when their bodies are connected with wires and their bodies become codes in part of the matrix. If the human bodies are disconnected with the wires and machines, their minds are pulled back to the reality in the present, and their identities form new identities which are different from the matrix. Perhaps, their true identities finally return to the bodies. In the matrix, human are under the slavery system created by the machines, and their identities are trapped into false realities created by the matrix. If human bodies and minds are disconnect, they could have a completely new reality with different identities beside the ones they have in the matrix. Therefore, identities are just temporary and can be changed when human minds and bodies recognize that they are in different realities created by numerous. However, Karl Marx, a German author, states that [t]he history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles (Marx, 62). He identifies history as class struggles which categorize the people from different classes in eternal forms as Plato thinks about identities. In Marx s The Communist manifesto, he introduces two classes, which are Proletariat and Bourgeois. The Proletariat works for Bourgeois, but the Bourgeois owns the majority of the capital. In Bourgeois society, there is a gap between rich and poor, and being poor becomes a consent struggle for the Proletariat. In this society, the Bourgeois has the identity of being rich, and the Proletariat owns the identity of being poor. As long as the Bourgeois exists, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Science, Technology And The Nightly News Essay Science, Technology and the Nightly News Introduction It s not uncommon for a news audience to run across stories or headlines about science that seem too good to be true. Headlines such as, Scientist Say Smelling Farts Might Prevent Cancer, (Stampler, 2014) or Bananas as good as drugs for treating HIV, say scientists. (Arkless Gray, 2010) Not only are these headlines flashy enough to get the attention of a wide audience, but they go beyond distributing the facts to wade into the waters of Yellow Journalism. In fact, much of the news distributed today might be considered such milky fare even by passive audience members. A 2013 Pew Research Center study found that 31 percent of U.S. adults have left a news outlet that no longer meets their needs. The reason for the exodus? More than 60 percent say the stories are less complete while another 23.5 percent claim there are fewer stories provided by these news outlets. One might wonder how such claims could be made in these times of 24 hour news cycles and breaking news distributed across the web through social media at warp speed. A closer look at the same Pew study reveals a startling fact about factual news content on cable news channels. Of the big three cable news channels (CNN, Fox News and MSNBC) only one provides more than 50 percent of factual news content. Employment generation through construction of rural roads, and ground water and minor irrigation to support food security received much higher priority compared to need to enhance logistics to support industrial growth and improving overall economic efficiency. In five year plans a major goal was to connect all villages (with population of more than 1,500 inhabitants) with rural road network; however, this was done through minimum needs program supporting employment creation and leading to waste and inefficiency. Most of the roads thus created did not meet quality standards because fiscal space was not adequate to accommodate both the demand for resources for rural roads and also the national highway network which was getting congested. Even in the case of power sector, village electrification was a priority so as to provide power for the farms, but not necessarily to households. Emphasis on connectivity, without improvements in overall economic efficiency meant unsustainable financial burden on the government budgets. With regard to the Book of Genesis, it is important to examine the writing with other contemporary works of similar geography and topics. The people of ancient Mesopotamia, where the oldest civilizations originated, produced a number of stories of creation and natural occurrences. It is important to note that many of the stories of the Sumerians, Akkadians and Hebrews began as oral traditions as the events they depict predate writing, so it is difficult to date these works on the basis of when these prehistoric myths were initiated. Just as there existed beings outside of creation in the Enuma Elish, the Hebrew God was present prior to the formation of the world. As the universe becomes defined in the following stages, the development described in each of the stories show a resemblance in events and the order in which they occurred. It is important to note that light existed, in both stories, independent of celestial bodies. Next, in same order, the sky and ground are created, followed by luminaries or the sun, moon and stars. The fact that the sequence of the creation stories is nearly identical can hardly be accidental according to some scholars. Subsequently, man is created with elements of divinity, given the task of working the soil . At the conclusion of each creation story, the deities rest from their work. While it is necessary to refrain from exaggerating the influence found in these similarities, it is equally essential to remain open to the understanding that these works emerged within a similar conceptual world . Though many similarities in the creation stories of Genesis and the Enuma Elish, the divergences are much more far reaching and significant . Unlike the gods of depicted in the Enuma Elish who were coexistent and coeternal with the comic matter , the Hebrew God is transcendent and separate from the substance of the cosmos, having Himself created it. There are 3 reasons about why I believe that we should tear down the monuments of a famous American. What Abraham meant by his famous quote is that people should defend the right things instead of the wrong issues. My three reasons why include not recreating the past, a protest between blacks and whites, and nevertheless, another civil war. To begin with, one of my reasons why I say that we should tear down the monuments is not to recreate the past. The reason why I say that is because in the past, many things happen to black people such as slavery and they ve been dealing with segregation for a long time. For instance, in Charlottesville over the past weekend, there was a protest between a group of KKK, neo Nazi, and white supremacists fighting and chanting you will not replace us. We should tear it down so people won t be able to think about the past and start to say a fight and say hateful things about other races. Establishing a relationship with a product brand sounds like a strange thing, we often have numerous relationships with the brands of products we purchase without even knowing why we do. The article by Fournier plainly defines that for a relationship with a brand to exist there must be some kind of interdependence between the product and the partner. Let s first look at the dentist and try and decipher if a customer could have a relationship with this provided service. When you visit the dentist you can pretty much say that it becomes a personal experience. When you allow someone to open your mouth and stick sharp objects in it, you must or have developed some kind of relationship with that individual. That relationship may have been established over time through quality service or you have visited this dentist as a kid. How does this apply to someone who visits this dentist for the first time? A bond of trustworthiness must be initially established by a first time customer to complete the dyad. When dealing in a human to human interaction, and especially with a medical procedure being accomplished, relationships are essential. Both parties in this dyad are essentially providing a service to each other which clearly establishes a formed relationship with this service or individual brand. Legally, dramatic changes had been made at the federal level, providing African Americans with a host of rights that had never been offered them before. Whites passed a number of laws designed to disenfranchise African American men, knowing that without the right to vote, the voices of newly freed slaves would not be heard. These laws included such measures as literacy tests, poll taxes, property qualifications, and so called grandfather clauses that denied an individual the right to vote if their grandfather did not vote himself. • 44. Attorney General V. Delaware Case Study First and foremost, is the issue of jurisdiction regarding the recent cyber scam targeting Delaware citizens. As evidenced in previous cases, the Attorney General would be within his jurisdiction to prosecute the defendant within the state of Delaware. Assuming due process was upheld, and no Fourth or Fifth Amendment rights were violated in the acquisition of evidence, the Attorney General should have no obstacles in pursuing both criminal and civil actions against the defendant. Finally, the Attorney General should be able to select a venue within the state of Delaware, if no conflict arises between the defense and prosecution. Regarding jurisdiction, the primary issue in this case is that of personal jurisdiction. Personal jurisdiction refers to the court s authority to call the defendant into the judicial process, rather than a geographic location or item (Craig, 2013). Fortunately, there has already been a precedent set by the United States Supreme Court that applies in this particular case. In International Shoe Company v. Washington, 326 U.S. U.S. 310 (1945), the Supreme Court established a system of minimum contacts as the primary jurisdictional test for establishing personal jurisdiction (Craig, 2013).
