How Did The Great Leap Forward Have An Impact On Chinese...
The Communist fervor that gripped mainland China under Mao Zedong s rule had lasting effects on
the economy and culture. In particular, the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution
devastated rural and peasant populations, leading to fatal consequences for a large portion of the
chinese demographic. The Great Leap Forward was an attempt at socializing the chinese economy
almost ten years after the People s Republic of China was established in 1949. Property and businesses
were stripped from private owners by the government and given to community leaders to run with the
help of community members. Unfortunately, revolutionary passion blinded community leaders and the
government. The former over reported food production while the latter continued to support a failing
economic structure and policy. This lead to the Great Chinese Famine, and a decline in economic
productivity and revolutionary zeal. The Great Cultural Revolution was meant to reinvigorate the
revolutionary spirit. Launched several years after the failure of the Great Leap Forward, the Cultural
Revolution targeted the youth. A successful propaganda campaign mobilized groups of mostly
disadvantaged youth (red guards) and the working class to purge those antithetical to the movement.
Millions were killed in the resulting class warfare which targeted capitalists, rightists, and landlords.
The effects of these influential events are still explored in modern chinese cinema many years after
their occurrence. An

Imagery In The Help
Don t you ever wish you could change things? (10). In Jackson, Mississippi during the 1960 s, woman
ahead of her time, Miss Skeeter, proposes an idea to write a book about the lives of colored maids in
Jackson. Aibileen and Minny, two maids, are among the first ones to agree to help Skeeter, despite the
potential danger to themselves. In The Help, Kathryn Stockett creates an engaging and immersive
world that explores racism and social injustice by using well developed writing, the ideal amount of
imagery, and strong characters.
Often times authors, especially new authors, make the mistake of crafting paragraphs that don t flow,
are hard to understand, or don t make sense. In The Help, well developed writing is used often and
well. Early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In writing, an author should be mindful of what they are trying to accomplish with what they are
describing. Stockett is able to accomplish this when she uses imagery thoughtfully. In the lounge, the
air seems to still. Husbands drinking their whiskeys stop in mid sip, spotting this pink thing at the
door. It takes a second for the image to register. They stare, but don t see, not yet. But as it turns real
real skin, real cleavage, perhaps not so real blond hair their faces slowly light up. They all seem to be
thinking the same thing Finally... But then, feeling the fingernails of their wives, also starring, digging
into their arms, their foreheads wrinkle. Their eyes hint remorse, as marriages are scorned (she never
lets me do anything fun), youth is remembered (why didn t I go to California that summer?), first
loves are recalled (Roxanne . . .). All of this happens in a span of about five seconds and then it is over
and they are left just staring (321). Imagery provides a way for a character and conflict to develop.
Also, since imagery provides a way for the reader to immerse themselves in a story, it is considered a
defining part of what makes a good

Advertising And The Adverse Exposure Of Publicity
An advertising mishap may lead to negative ad reviews, and or ratings; bad publicity is never
welcome. However, how you handle the reflux of the situation will set you apart as not only a thriving
business, but in terms of recovering clients and revamping business. The way the situation is handled
will either define your business or decline it. Gaining a clearer understanding of the link between the
role of advertising and the adverse exposure of publicity would further contribute to the knowledge of
aspects to be considered when planning a positive strategy in order to combat negative stigmas.
Advertising is the action of calling something to the attention of the public especially by paid
announcements (Webster, 2015). Advertising has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the context of relationship marketing, customer satisfaction is often viewed as a central determinant
of customer retention (Henning Thurau, 1998). Customer satisfaction is one piece of the puzzle to and
overall well executed advertisement and essentially product. Advertising is important to the customer,
who is the one who purchases the product after they have been made aware of the product s
availability. Advertising helps find the best fit for customers via product. Advertising is important to
society because it helps to educate the masses. Advertisements go beyond the products and they
address social standards and current issues, as well. There are many elements that make up a
successful advertisement and or campaign.
There are a few strategically applied principles that successful advertisements follow. Advertisements
are keyed, along with other means to discover the exact values and styles of advertisements and of
each medium in which they were inserted (Scott, INSERT NUMBER). Advertising has its influence
over the human minds, if it is not successful in this aspect, then it becomes useless and destructive to
the firms attempting it (Scott, NUMBER).
Memory is the first principle to consider with advertisement in mind. Our memory fires, processes,
and stores things rapidly. However, the pieces and parts that we actually remember in our everyday
lives is very

Tourism Management Issues
TOURISM MANAGEMENT ISSUES: DARK TOURISM Discuss the tourism management issues
generated by the growth of dark tourism. Abstract: The aim of this research is to consider dark tourism
and discuss what are the tourism management issues generated by the growth of this phenomenon. To
clarify this concept, the report will also include a definition of dark tourism, a brief background of
why this type of tourism is continuously increasing, and finally conclusions will be drawn. Keywords:
culture management, visitor number management, safeguard, vandalism, conservation Introduction:
Dark tourism has been defined as encompassing the visitation to any site associated with death,

Auschwitz camp is a perfect example for this. It is in the process of continual erosion; the growth of
vegetation and foliage coverage has to be managed and controlled. As Lennon and Foley (2004)
further suggest, there should be management rather than restoration. This dark attraction has swelled
visitor number and catalysed economic activity. A very important issue also identified is that of culture
management. Tourist must be given a code of conduct and be educated to behave in a certain way
when visiting particular sites as to conform and integrate with the local community to avoid conflict.
Tourist themselves have, or should have, an obligation to observe codes of behaviour and be aware of
cultural norms in the destination they are visiting (Howie, 2003). Some behaviour such as alcohol
abuse, shouting, fighting should not be permitted as these might insult the local community and lack
of respect needed in these tragedy sites. While at Auschwitz Birkenau, groups of schoolchildren were
taking photographs of each other, parents were photographing their children at the gates of Birkenau
and indeed, school parties were sitting on the ruins of the crematorium eating sandwiches(Lennon and
Foley, 2004). Furthermore funds required to conserve sites will also be of consideration. The two

Richard Plantagenet Essay
For this project I would like to research the public opinion and reception of the political reforms made
by Richard Plantagenet as both Duke of Gloucester and King of England. Upon his brother Edward IV
s regaining of the throne in 1471, Richard gained properties and offices in the far north of England
previously enjoyed only by lords of long standing families such as the Percys. As Duke of Gloucester,
Richard served as an extension of royal power and was charged with constructing some semblance of
order. Repeatedly, Richard used his close relationship with the king to settle disputes between nobility
and local governments in favor of the latter. This suggests an affinity for the lesser classes that
continued during his brief reign. In a previous research project I discussed Richard s 1484 Parliament
and how it sought to benefit the general public over the nobility. While this argument was backed by
fairly substantial evidence as to the intent of the laws and amendments, the public reaction to them
was not addressed. Unfortunately, it is virtually impossible to follow up on the effects of these
parliamentary statutes as, after his death in 1485, many of Richard s reforms were eradicated or ...

The three most prominent are the York Civic Records, the writings of contemporary Italian writer
Dominic Mancini, and the Calendar of Patent Rolls from the reign of Edward IV. The York Civic
Records offer a plethora of instances in which the city of York calls for Richard s aid in various local
matters. The Calendar of Patent Rolls complements the York Civic Records by demonstrating Richard
s actions in several of the York cases that required royal intervention. Dominic Mancini, although both
a foreign and somewhat hostile writer, gives several insightful descriptions of public opinion during
Richard s ascension to the throne in

The Issue Of Annexation Movements Inside Canada
Isn t it sad to see a Parliament building burnt on the night of April 25th, 1849 to mark as one of our
historical importance of establishing Canada? The definition of annexation is to take over and
acquiring another state. Usually, it is implied that the territory and population being annexed is the
smaller and the weakest of the two merging state. By definition, Manifesto is a public declaration of
policy and aims. Annexation movements inside Canada were usually inspired by dissatisfaction with
Britain s colonial government of Canada. For example, a groups of Irish immigrants took the route of
attempting to annex the peninsula between the Detroit and Niagara Rivers to the U.S. by force in 1837
1838. The War of 1812 built up hatred overtime between the Americans and the British. But as a
result, there were no territorial changes. Another significant event before the Annexation Manifesto
was the Rebellion of 1837. It caused a backfire which led to a massive violence when Lower and
Upper Canada took arms to achieve a responsible government. Although the Rebellions of 1837 were
motivated in part by this type of dissatisfaction, Canadian resentment of British rule never reached the
degree that led to the American Revolution in 1775. Notably, Canada s population grew rapidly in the
late 18th and early 19th centuries. Canada s population grew due to United Empire Loyalists, who left
the American colonies during the Revolution because of their loyalty to Great Britain. In

Issues Of Modern Society s Racial Discrimination
Andy Xiao ASTU 100A February 8th, 2016
Issues of Modern Society s Racial Discrimination Is the society s draconian attendance towards the
people of distinguishable race a fair measure of precaution or an act of discrimination? In the society
we live in today, the enactment of racial bias has made a monumental impact, shaping many
individuals lives by default. However, is it fair for the innocent individuals to be shrouded with the
burden of being a particular race ? After witnessing, the incident of Ferguson, I became dreadfully
discontented to discovered that people today have self established the immense belief that people of
color are the primary cause of danger, and therefore, they must be regarded as hazardous creatures.
Moreover, the reason triggering the detrimental policing was due to the color of the victims,
illustrating the ugly truth of racial profiling still remains intact to our society. Although racial profiling
and prejudice are disavowed publicly by Americans, many statistics and research on implicit racial
bias debated the citizens of the United States still perceive a person s physical in determining their
likeliness to committee crime (Bornstein, Avram). Unfortunately, it is ingrained in today s society that
institutional structures demonstrate persistent inequality and unequal distribution of societal resources
(White, Rob).

The Holocene Epoch
Scientists believe, that the earth in the middle of a sixth ongoing mass extinction, which was given the
name of The Holocene extinction due to our modern Holocene epoch.
Discussion
The Holocene epoch continues from 11 500 years ago until the nowadays and still keep going. Sixth
Extinction event can be blamed for significant loss of larger mammals (woolly mammoth, cave lion,
cave bear and etc.) during the end of Ice Age extinction event 9 000 to 13 000 years ago, which was
caused by climate change. In more recent years, 2 000 years ago, another group of species became
extinct due to human activities, starting from 500 years ago, a number of species (giant

2) Climate changes
Most of the scientists keep warning about rise of the temperature. Most of the geologists agreed that
when the climate becoming change mass extinction follow afterwards. For example the first
Ordovician Extinction, was set off by ice age, the end of the Triassic, was caused by volcanic eruption,
which smothered CO2 into the atmosphere, which did not let heat go out through the atmosphere,
what led to global warming.
3) Changes in sea levels
Due rise in temperatures, icebergs and ice crust will melt, what by the way will force sea level rise and
flood islands and continents. If Earth s oceans water levels will continue to rise, it may also influence
on the amount of fallouts, which may destroy living environment and habitat of different species.

Task 1 Health Indicators Of Wellbeing
Task 1:
Question 1 Health indicators of wellbeing
My question is:
If life expectancy is high in a given country will the income or GDP per person also be high
The two indicators that I have chosen are:
Life expectancy: The average number of years a newborn child would live if current mortality patterns
were to stay the same. Life expectancy is an indicator of wellbeing because the higher the GDP the
longer you will live because you can afford medicine and healthcare to take care of yourself and the
healthier your body is then the longer live. Docs.google.com, (2015).
GDP: Gross Domestic Product per capita by Purchasing Power Parities (in international dollars, fixed

Some reasons why there are differences between countries include the countries amount of wealth.
One country is more developed than the other, meaning that they would earn more money. In African
countries, they are having a more structured effort in their education. People will still go to school
even though they are already an adult; this is because they feel that an education is important.
Therefore, the answer to my question is no, a country does not need to have a high GDP to maintain a
high literacy rate.
Task 2: The Happy Planet Index (HPI)
The Happy Planet Index is the leading global measure of sustainable wellbeing. It records the
important information and indicators such as experienced well being, life expectancy and Ecological
footprints. It is different to other measures of wellbeing because it shows a very important aspect of
life, happiness. Other forms of measures just measure the wellbeing of people such as GDP rates and
life expectancy of countries. But the HPI measures the happiness of a country, this is good because it
could be compared with other indicators such as poverty and income. It shows that countries with a lot
of money will not always be

How Did Hippies Change The World
Revolutionising not only America but around the world, hippies completely changed the way we think
about the world and altered our perception of societal norms. The word hippie is derived from the
word hipster which in the 1950 s meant hip or up to date. Most believe believe the only places hippies
were influential or successful had to do with drugs or the Vietnam War, but that s false. Hippies had
influence in many areas, including fashion, gay rights, and women s rights. Hippies have forever
changed the fashion world. Huge designers like Coco Chanel and Emilio Pucci continue to create new
works inspired by what the hippies wore. Hippies believed fashion was all about wearing what you
love. The very existence of hippies went against society norms; they were all about going against what
society told them they had to be and was just about being yourself. However, typical items you could
find hippies wearing included homemade beads, tie dye clothes, headbands, and most women began
wearing what men typically wore like jeans, but also loved flower print items. Before this time,
women would never wear jeans, but today it s common to find women in jeans, just like men used to
wear. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Consequently, today, almost all of these practices are today seen as acceptable. Hippies truly began the
fight to making gay marriage legal. The organic food trend is continuing to rise, an aftereffect of the
hippie counterculture influence over fifty years ago. They believed in respecting and giving back to
nature. Today, many people support many of the ideals that were once appealing to most people.
Hippies believed challenging societal norms was the only way to live out a better

The Germination of Seeds of the Native Plant Acacia
The Germination of Seeds of the Native Plant Acacia decurrens Practical Report Biology 1
Introduction:
In a botanical sense, germination is the process of emergence of growth from a resting stage.
(http://encyclopedia.laborlawtalk.com/germination). Under favourable conditions, the seed begins to
germinate, and the embryonic tissues resume growth, developing towards a seedling.
Soils from a Cumberland Plain Woodland community were investigated to determine the presence of a
soil seed bank; and whether species richness and abundance of plants germinating from it were
affected by heating such as that experienced in a fire. It was found that certain seeds reacted
differently, and he the phsyical action of heating, whether at low or ... Show more content on

Daily observations were recorded in a diary and then placed into a table of results featured below.
Results: Effects of heat on Acacia Decurrens

Control 2 | 0 | 15 | 0 | 0 |
Both Heat treated groups 1 amp; 2 had seeds that germinated within 3 4 days of receiving this heat
treatment. This averaged the amount of 66.5% of the total seeds germinated. In contrast both Control
groups that were not subjected to any form of heat treatment but were still soaked in cold water did
not show signs of germination at all within the 10 days time limit.
Discussion:
The results of the experiment demonstrate that if Acacia decurrens seeds are subjected to the heat
treatment by placing the seeds in boiling water and leaving them in that same water for a period of 24
hours, then the rate at which the seeds germinate will be affected. It can be suggested that this
increased germination rate occurs because the boiling water, by which the seeds were soaked in,
breaks down the hard coating on the outside layer of the seed, thus allowing the seedling to penetrate
through the coating and begin the germination process. This controlled

Deformation Behavior Of Metallic Greys Lab Report
The deformation behavior of metallic glasses is separated in two different stages. Below the glass
transition, they reveal an inhomogeneous deformation, which leads to the appearance of discrete and
thin shear bands, resulting of its non hardenable nature (KAWAMURA et al., 1997). However, in the
supercooled liquid region, (ΔT), BMGs usually exhibit a drastic reduction of viscosity, and therefore,
present a Newtonian flow behavior (WANG et al., 2005), and can retain its amorphous structure even
after large plastic deformation (KIM, MA, and JEONG, 2003).
Kawamura et al. (1997) studied superplasticity of a bulk Zr65Al10Ni10Cu15 glassy alloy ribbon in
the supercooled liquid region and reported a maximum tensile elongation of 340% at an ... Show more

2.1.4 Present and Future Applications
The first report of a commercial use of a Zr based BMG was the confection of golf clubs (JOHNSON,
2015). Liquidmetal Technologies Company made the first attempt to industrialize the use of this new
engineering material. They were unsuccessful for two main reasons: (1) the newly developed die
casting route introduced flow lines on the surface of the part that acted like crack initiation sites, (2) in
1997 the US Golf Association restricted the limit of how springy golf clubs could be (JOHNSON,
2015). Zr based BMGs can transfer up to 99% of the applied energy to the golf plate, whereas steel
golf plates transfer 60% and titanium transfer 70% (WANG, DONG and SHEK, 2004). BMGs were
also applied in other high end sporting goods such as tennis rackets, and may find applications for
baseball bats, bicycle frames, hunting bows, and skis (WANG, DONG and SHEK, 2004).
Inoue et al. (2003), informed the use of Fe based BMGs powders as shot peening balls. Shoot peening
generates a residual compressive stress field onto the surface of metals. They reported that the residual
stress caused by BMGs shot peening balls, leading to increased hardness and resilience, is far superior
to that of conventional crystalline shot peening balls.
Present novelty and rarity make BMGs attractive for high end lifestyle products. The ability to take
high polish and resist abrasion and corrosion suggest the

Presidential campaigns often thrive on fallacies. Trump is a perfect example of this, but is not the only
one. Hillary Clinton, Martin O Malley, Ben Carson, etc. Marco Rubio s campaign, in particular, relies

Rubio s presidential campaign website poses several questions on the front page, asking if you want to

him or else no good will come from the November election. These questions are fallacious for they

Differences And Similarities Between Cinderella And Antigone
There is no friendship as strong as between sisters. Whether it is a best memory, sad moment, or a first

Significant Kill Narrative
The Significant Kill
November 15, 2014 my favorite day of the year: opening day. I can remember the day as if it was
yesterday. Four thirty in the morning is when the sustainable day began. I woke up and got dressed in
a hurry because I was full energy and excitement. My Uncle Todd came and picked me up and we
were off to camp. We arrived at our camp and it was time for the annual camp breakfast which
consists of Grandpa s famous Texas toast. The camp was filled with an aroma of a campfire smell
from the wood stove and toast frying on the stove. Everyone took their seats (which everyone has a
certain spot they sit) and we began the morning feast. The room was full of laughter and vigorous
stories. Everyone had a story to tell whether it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shortly following the doe was a buck. I couldn t tell how big it was because I was having a hard time
finding it in my scope. As it got closer Grandpa said Shoot! I quickly found the body and pulled the
trigger. The buck dropped dead in it s tracks and promptly died. Normally you wait a little while to
make sure it s dead, but since we knew it was dead we walked up to it. As we were approaching it
Grandpa stopped me. How sizable do you think it is? He asked. I don t know. Maybe six or eight
points. I replied. Bigger. He said Probably ten or twelve points. My buck fever started to kick in. I was
shaking with joy and exhilaration. We finally got close enough to where I could sort of see the antlers
and I could just tell it was a monster. Grandpa quickly counted the antlers and it was a ten point. I was
so excited, but Grandpa was even more excited. As soon as I saw it, I took a quick picture of it to send
to my dad and mom but our cell phone signal is not good at camp so I could only tell them how big it
was. After I texted my parents, Grandpa began to gut it due to the fact that it s super gross. We tried to
haul it back to camp, but it was very heavy and the water made it even harder so we decided just to tag
it and leave it and come when we had more help. When we got back to camp we celebrated with some
victory hot chocolate. It was around nine in the morning so the other boys wouldn t be coming back
for a couple more hours and I was very anxious to tell them the news. After a while we saw Rhett
walking back to camp. I ran outside to tell him about our success, but he thought I was kidding! I
pulled out my phone and showed him the picture and he thought I got it off the internet. So, I decided
we would go back to the deer and he could help us pull it out of the swamp. Once we found the deer

Intelligence officials in US are closely studying Soviet technology of the era of the Cold War to
determine whether an electronic weapon was used in the acoustic attacks that took place in Havana

deserter faction of Cuban spies waiting derail restored diplomatic relations between Havana and

Analysis Of Homer s The Odyssey
Homer s The Odyssey is about Odysseus s journey back home after war. Just like in every journey,
Odysseus changes as the story progresses but the one the thing that does not change is the use of his
mind and sharp witted he is. There is an underlying theme of body versus mind in this epic. This
theme is noticeable in book eight lines 174 to 194. In this passage Odysseus is responding to
LĂ odamas s challenge of joining in their games. In Odysseus s response he focuses on birth, brains, or
speech and brings up the question of which is more important body or mind. Through his choice of
wording and a few metaphors, Odysseus makes it seem like the mind is more important to him all
within twenty lines.
The structure and progression of this passage lends an outlook on Odysseus s thoughts towards the
idea of body versus mind. Odysseus bases this passage off of birth, brains, or speech and then builds
on that with examples. This passage can then essentially be broken down into four separate parts.
Odysseus begins with an example of a man that is a master of speech and through his speech he can
seem beautiful to people. Then Odysseus briefly speaks about an actual handsome man who does not
have the ability to speak eloquently. For his third example, he does not use a random man but instead
directly targets LĂ odamas and how unintelligible he is. The final section of this passage is a reflection
of Odysseus s emotions towards what LĂ odamas has said to him.
Since Odysseus s

Reign Of Richard II Essay

The Reign of Richard II
With Richard II, then, Shakespeare turns to the events that had launched England s century of crisis
(Bevington, 2014). These events were still fresh and relevant to Elizabethan minds (Bevington, 2014).
To begin with, we should not underestimate Richard s attractive qualities, as a man and even as a king
(Bevington, 2014). Richard is consistently more impressive and majestic than his rival, Bolingbroke
(Bevington, 2014). Richard fascinates us with his verbal sensitivity, his poetic insight, and his
dramatic self consciousness (Bevington, 2014). These qualities notwithstanding, Richard is an
incompetent ruler, compared to the man who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When John Gaunt died, Richard removed and exiled Bolingbroke.
Bodies talk first in throughout Richard II primarily because indulgence, in the garden of England as in
the Garden of Eden, is quickly branded the most significant threat to the stability of Richard s
monarchy (Hoffmann, 2009). John of Gaunt may be the only character to understand that appetite is as
much a matter of power as it is of desire, taste or need , and that to control appetite is to control power,
but Richard himself perceives and worries over the same relationship (Hoffmann, 2009). Just as
Genesis s garden of Eden, the cultural narrative of Richard s England demands that those judged
guilty of overindulgence be banished, along with their intemperate appetites (Hoffmann, 2009).
Richard II assumes, often to his own detriment, that his position at the top of the political food chain,
while it may not render him immune from threats, still gives him prerogative to banish those threats
before they materialize (Hoffmann, 2009). Furthermore, he executes these punishments without ever
defining exactly what it is he is punishing (Hoffman, 2009). He responds to perceived threats not as
examples/offshoots of his own vile participation, his own destructive appetites, but as already external
menaces, monsters/monstrosities that necessitate banishment and imprisonment outside the borders of
civilization (Hoffmann, 2009). Once banished, a

A Modest Proposal Rhetorical Analysis
During the late seventeenth century, political pamphlets were distributed throughout Ireland to
promote the ideas of various intellectuals and laymen. However, many discarded them and did not pay
attention to them. Jonathan Swift, author of A Modest Proposal, takes lead for these unnoticed
pamphlets and builds a proposal he thinks would help Ireland economy. A Modest Proposal is an
ironic example that presents the attitude of rich towards poor and their starving kids. Jonathan uses
various elements like metaphors, repetitions, irony and parallelism to focus on destructive defiance of
the writing. Jonathan swift starts by blaming the mothers of these children that they should start
working and get some earning to support these kids. He also foretells the future of these children that
they will turn into thieves or sell themselves to foreign countries for money. According to Swift, it is
just because the parents did not train their children the unassertive way of life and could not give them
a proper lifestyle. In A Modest Proposal Jonathan Swift does not blame the shortcomings of Ireland on
the people. He says that the people, politicians, and English were all to be at fault for the terrible state
and poverty of Ireland. there are three factors that make Swift s argument not serious: the tone of the
author, his insincerity, and ridiculousness of the proposal.
Swift states that because these women kept having children and could not provide food to them, the
economy of Ireland and standard of living couldn t improve. So, he makes a proposal to the public that
he thinks would be beneficial for them. His way of thinking and argument is incorrect in what he is
proposing as He marks that young healthy children are delicious food to be roasted, stewed and boiled
to be served and eaten by rich British people. Similarly, he estimates that twenty thousand kids should
be held in reserve for breeding purposes. This brutalizes how children should be treated like animals.
Jonathan swift trying to support his argument, in a very sarcastic way states that certain body parts of
children are good to eat and on special occasions could be held on demand. furthermore, he advises
that healthy and nourished kids could be

Essay about Racism and Discrimination in Healthcare
Healthcare systems are microcosms of the larger society in which they exist. Where there is structural
violence or cultural violence in the larger society, so will there be evidence of systematic inequities in
the institutions of these societies. The healthcare system in Australia is one example from a plethora of
similarly situated healthcare systems in which the color of a patient s skin or the race of his parents
may determine the quality of medical received. Life expectancy and infant mortality rates are vastly
different for non Aboriginal, Aboriginal, and Torres Strait Islanders residing in Australia. The life
expectancy of Aboriginal men is 21 years shorter than for non Aboriginal men in Australia. For

The organizational structures of political and economic systems cause and sustain the sort of
hierarchical relations that enable dramatic differences between and across sectors of societies. Within
these hierarchies, the people at the top have privilege, wealth, and power, while those at the bottom of
the hierarchy are dominated, oppressed, and exploited (Christie, 1997). People are harmed and killed
as a result of structural violence but, unlike direct violence, it occurs more slowly. The harm or death
of oppressed people may come about because some people are deprived of food, shelter, healthcare,
and other resources (Christie, 1997). Because structural violence is embedded in a society s way of
being, over the long term, groups of people may not be able to meet their basic needs to the degree
that normal development and growth is impacted.
In the 1960s, Johan Galtung posited the construct of violence as a phenomenon generated by the
existence of social barriers that deny needs satisfaction in certain sectors of society. Galtung s
conceptual framework illustrates the relationship between the structure of society and the inequalities
experienced by its citizens. Gilman s seminal definition of structural violence reads, physical and
psychological harm that results from exploitive and unjust social, political, and economic systems
(1983, p. 8).

encouraging students of all ages to be apart of this experience is important to me, because seeing each

Osmium Research Paper
How can one human mind organize and memorize over 100 elements? In 1869, Dmitri Mendeleev, a
Russian chemist and inventor, was credited with creating and publishing the Periodic table. The
Periodic table is an arrangement of the chemical elements discovered on earth. These elements are
organized by their atomic number and similarities between chemical properties. The Periodic table
holds 118 elements which can be broken down into smaller classifications, groups (vertical), periods
(horizontal) and blocks (adjacent). In this paper, we will zoom in one unbelievable element Osmium,
which is usually lost in the mix.

As a result of contact with the skin, you are at risk of redness, skin burns, skin discoloration and
blisters. Unfortunately, exposure to high concentrations may result in damage to kidneys or even
death. Though this chemical is able to do harm, it can be and has been used in a beneficial way. For

can be made by melting or mixing two or more metals. Lastly, it can be used as a catalyst, a substance
used to speed up or slow down a chemical reaction.
In summarization, osmium ,Os, is a chemical element based on the periodic table. This element was
discovered in the mixture of a mixture of nitric and hydrochloric acids. It has a atomic number of 76

Implication of Schizotypy as a Personality Trait Essay
Implication of Schizotypy as a Personality Trait
Gruzelier (1996) suggest that schizotypy consists mainly of impulsive non conformity, social anxiety,
positive features such as unusual perceptions, and negative features such as introversions. (Cited in
Miller P, et al. 2002, p.179).
In this essay one would like to explore the definition given to schizotypy and to give a brief discussion
on this concept and whether schizotypy is a single trait or whether there are more factors to be
considered, for it was conceptualized by Eysenck as a single personality trait named psychoticism,
however it was Claridge s work that suggested that this personality trait was much more complex, and

in common with Eysenck s idea of psychoticism. (Psychoticism is one of the three traits used by the
psychologist Hans Eysenck in his P E N model (psychoticism, extraversion and neuroticism) model of
personality. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Mental_illness_diagnosis_by_DSM_and_ISCDRHP 20k
) Both these traits are thought to predict the risk of developing schizophrenia, but researchers such as
Claridge have tried to predetermine all the main symptoms of schizophrenia from the clinical to the
non clinical population. It was said that Eysenck focused more on impulsive, sensation seeking, cruel
and solitary behaviors, who only mildly referred to the perceptual distortions or cognitive and
attention problems. Therefore he concluded that even if the traits have some similarities, they are
unlikely to be identical. (Cooper, 2002, pp. 146 7).
To determine whether schizotypy is a single trait can be complicated in the fact that if a personality

To a person s characteristic patterns e.g. 1) thought, 2) affectivity,
3) motivation, and 4) behavior, the question that arisen to Westen, D., and Shedler, J. when

For most food service managers it does not require a lot of education (but does require some
postsecondary education, such as programs that provide on the job experience. A college degree is
preferred, for those are not interested in pursuing a 4 year degree, there are community and junior
colleges the offer programs in the field leading to an associate degree. Training is often essential for
managers who would like to manage their own restaurant because it does take a lot of responsibilities
to run a restaurant. Most restaurant and food service management companies have training programs
for management positions. A combination of classroom and on the job training, trainees receive
instruction and gain work experience in all aspect of the operation of a restaurant. Training on the use
of the restaurants computer system is important as well. Many larger food service operations will
provide or offer to pay for technical training, such as computer or business courses, so that employees
can understand the business skills necessary to read spreadsheets or understand the concepts of
running a business.) ( Food service managers , 2010, p. 5, 6)

Plato s Laws And Xenophon s Hiero
Practically in all his discourses, Plato wrote about the works of Socrates that acted as the main persona
in his confabs. In Plato s laws and Xenophon s Hiero, a further wise man other than Socrates acted as
the leader of the discourse. While having protagonist confabs in Plato s and Xenophon s works,
Socrates tries to interrogate understanding of the further man on the aspect of morality. Socrates
presented himself as a less knowledgeable person in the domain of moral issues to confuse the other
person who boasts of being more knowledgeable on the same. Using this ironical approach known as
the Socratic Irony , Socrates was able to illustrate inconsistency of the other person s views on
morality. Although the early and middle works of Plato are considered as Socratic dialogue,
understanding the composition and chronology of Plato s work is a bit complex since even the ancient
sources do not present these works chronologically. Plato s work basically involved posing questions
and answers as a way of stimulating critical thinking. Defender of a particular point of view would be
questioned, and then one of the parties would contradict himself in order to confuse his counterpart
and in doing so, the defender would be made weak. Socrates discourses revolved around traditions,
justice, afterlife and education. In light to this, this paper will unravel Socrates accounts balance
Aristophanes and Xenophon s on afterlife, justice and law, education and traditional practices. In

Furthermore, electricity prices in Cambodia are very high, thereby opening opportunities for the

renewable energy situation in Cambodia. Renewable energy technologies (RETs) will be the most
appropriate way in meeting the energy demand in rural and remote areas of developing countries,
especially in off grid areas. About 85% of the total population lives in the rural areas, the government

Personal Responsibility By Gabriel Garcia Marquez Essay
Personal responsibility is a principle that is educated in elementary school all the way through college;
it essentially means taking liability for all your thoughts, emotions, and behavior. Gabriel GarcĂa
MĂĄrquez, Columbian novelist, was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1982: for his novels and
short stories, in which the fantastic and the realistic are combined in a richly composed world of
imagination, reflecting a continent s life and conflicts. ( The Nobel Foundation). He was an
exceptionally influential writer for including personal responsibility as a prominent theme in many of
his short stories. Julio CortĂĄzar , an Argentine novelist, became well known for composing short
stories that united existential questions with experimental writing methods in his work. Along with
MĂĄrquez, he included the aspect of personal responsibility in his short stories. Recognizing that you
are exclusively accountable for the decisions in your life, understanding and agreeing that you are
responsible for what you decide to feel or believe, giving consent to the reality that you choose the
direction for your life and acknowledging that you cannot hold others responsible for the choices you
have made are all aspects of personal responsibility. Both of these authors explore the idea that human
beings choose, instigate, or cause their own actions; due to this idea each one of us are ethically and
morally responsible for our actions and where we end in life is consequently due

Everyone has someone that they look up to in life. 2.

For me that person is my Father.
When trying to decide who to pick for this paper, he was the first one to come to mind, and after a
little thinking, I knew that was the right choice.
With a cornucopia of stories that I have close to me, I had to narrow them down to three.
I picked three that are most viable for me to use.
These stories come from different points in my life.
From the first story to the last, the years progressively go on.
Ever since I was young my family and I always took trips to the ocean.
We always would go to our favorite two locations, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Longboat Key
Island in Florida.
Being in love with marine animals from a small age, I was always counting down the days till I can go
to myrtle beach or florida.
One year in particular was the most memorable for me.
It was back in 2009 and my family and I were in myrtle beach.
My dad and I got up early one morning to go get bait for us to go fishing outside of our hotel.
That trip I caught many little fish but never a big one.
To be more specific, I wanted to catch a flounder.
I can still remember the cold air in the morning as we were driving to the store to get bait.
I think today is finally going to be the day Jake! my dad said.
I responded frustrated saying, I m not so sure about that.
This is our last day here and I haven t caught one yet.

Action In Judaism
Many people inherit their religion from their parents and usually die in it; however, there are some
questions that need to be asked before choosing a religion. The most important choice should be
between believe or action. Action should have more emphasis than belief in a religion. Therefore,
Judaism is the perfect religion to accommodate right action due to its orthopraxy nature, due diligence
to society, not forcing others to convert, and knowing what each individual is destined to accomplish
while incorporating belief; in which it is hard to find the right combination of action and belief in
other religions.

The War And Plato s Symposium, And The Man Discussed
In two very different works we see two equally different portrayals of the same man; these differences
are informed by the author s purpose, the genre of the work, and the effects of the depiction upon the
rest of the specific work. These works are of course Thucydides , The History of the Peloponnesian
War and Plato s Symposium, and the man discussed is the Athenian giant, Alcibiades of the
Alcmaeonidae. The authors, of course, have their own aims and reasons for writing their works, Plato,
writing an allegory on love likely to defend his teacher Socrates, and Thucydides, to inform on what
he believes to be the most significant war in history. The genres of the works being philosophy and
history respectively also affects the rhetoric of Alcibiades speech; as well as his greater portrayals in
the works. It is important to note the differences in the depictions as they are significant not only to
understanding the literary merit of the works, but also furthering the knowledge with respect to the
author s motives and the state of higher opinion on a maverick of a man in the late 5th and early 4th
Centuries BC in Athens. The first significant variance one must note between the author s works is the
rhetoric and aims of the speeches Alcibiades makes in the two works. In Plato s Symposium all the
major characters are at a dinner party and are giving speeches about eros, the Greek concept of love,

Emperor And Nationalist Ideology Essay
The Emperor and Nationalist Ideology in Meiji Era Japan
The Meiji Era in Japan is known as a time of rapid industrialization and Westernization where many
institutions of society were realigned in one form or another to be consistent with their Western
counterparts. Ironically, at the same time, it was a period of growing nationalistic feelings that began
to develop in Japanese society. However, besides being a reactionary or nostalgic feeling experienced
by the population, this nationalist ideology was also actively promoted by the Meiji leadership.
Central to this ideology was the emperor who was effectively and successfully used as a tool for
legitimizing the Meiji government.
According to myth, the Japanese emperor is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cell Phones Are Ordinary Today
Cell phones are ordinary today. Very nearly everybody has one. My grandma conveys an iPhone and
my dad a man who once swore he d never convey a telephone with him anyplace slaps a Samsung
Galaxy S III with an OtterBox case on his hip each morning. It wasn t generally so. I was the main
individual at my secondary school educators and organization included with a cell phone. To start
with, I had the Moto Q, then the BlackBerry Pearl 8130, trailed by the Curve 8330. Furthermore, that
is the place my story started, in 2006, taking lesson notes (read: playing Brick Breaker and Asteroids)
on an incredible QWERTY console about a large portion of the palm s extent of my hand. Trust it or
not, cell phone history backtracks over 10 years before that. Things were ... intriguing in those days. In
the first place, what is a cell phone? Turns out, the real definition, regardless of the source, is very
ambiguous. Merriam Webster compactly calls a cell phone a PDA that incorporates extra
programming capacities (as email or an Internet program). Oxford Dictionaries, then again, gets
somewhat more exact by saying a cell phone has the capacity perform a hefty portion of the elements
of a PC, commonly having a moderately expansive screen and a working framework equipped for
running universally useful applications. In any case, there is an almost negligible difference between
what is and isn t a cell phone nowadays, regardless of the fact that the purported moronic or

Champion Of The American Spirit Summary
Theodore Roosevelt I ve always have been interested in how to be a president like Theodore
Roosevelt, so I chose this book so I could read and learn about him. I was inspired to read this book
about Theodore Roosevelt was because our school is named after him. Theodore roosevelt was a hard
working man.The name of the book is Theodore Roosevelt, Champion of the American Spirit. The
author of the book is Betsy Harvey Kraft. This book was published on the year 2003 and published by
Houghton Mifflin Compony Imprint. This book report will be about Theodore Roosevelt s astonishing
life.
Theodore Roosevelt was born on October 27,1858 at New York City. During Theodore Roosevelt s
childhood, his family called him Teddy Roosevelt. He had asthma so he couldn t do as much
cardiovascular exercises. His father pulled him aside and said to him, Theodore you have the mind but
you have not the body, and without the help of the body the mind cannot go as far as it should. I am
giving you the tools, but it is up to you to make your body . Theodore responded with, I will make my
body! . He then stated to exercise a lot even though he had asthma. He had a father, mother, and 3
other siblings. He also had glasses. He was homeschooled. His family was very rich, so they went on a
lot of trips of a lot of different kinds of places, like Egypt, Africa, Europe, and i think ... Show more

By this time, Teddy was very fit and ripped by the exercising he did as a child until now. There Teddy
met a girl whose name was Alice Lee. They were a very good couple. There at Harvard Teddy found
out his father died at home from a letter his mother sent him. They soon married on October 27 ,1880.
They were the richest couple that everybody knew of. Alice died about 4 years after they married and
2 days after she gave birth to their child, and Teddy s mother also died the same day Alice died on,
February 14, 1884. He was left by himself in despair, and

Values of Miss America Pageant Essay
She s intelligence and humility. She s fair and honesty. She s Miss United States. These are not the
lyrics to the song that is played after a contestant wins the ever so coveted crown. These are not lyrics
to any song at all actually. But why not? Aren t those all attributes most people yearn for? While of
course these characteristics are things everyone tries to perfect throughout their lifetime, this is not the
focal point of the Miss America pageant. The actual lyrics are; She s beauty and she s grace. She s
queen of 50 states. She s elegance and taste. She s Miss United States (Miss Congeniality). It is
shocking to see the digression in humanity s morals and values over the past decade. As cliché as it
sounds, the media is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are opposing views of this controversial subject, including the perspective that pageants have
changed in many aspects of the show criteria to make it less racy. It also provides a useful way to
allow contestants to feel better and more confident about their selves. In the last 20 years, the pageant
has decreased the importance of the swimsuit score in the overall competition; banned professional
hairdressers and makeup artists from the pageant; stopped announcing contestants breast, waist and
hip measurements; started requiring that contestants choose a social issue for their personal platform ;
and even ceased requiring that they wear high heels during the swimsuit segment... Our girls require
community service and must have a talent. There s also a requirement to be in college. And we make
sure that every single one of our women leaves with scholarship money (Litman). Because of the large
quantity of debate and controversy over the pageantry world through the last 20 years, the show is
altering some of their rules to fit the needs of the outraged world. However, do they honestly expect us
to believe that after those crucial yet minute changes, we would sit back, relax and be happy with the
new and improved show? Yes these changes do help with creating a new name for the pageant, but it
is not good enough. They decreased the overall percentage of importance for the

Importance Of Police Mistrust The Police
Although the police are, for the most part, respected here in Victoria, Texas, there are always more
things to be done in order to effectively create a solid relationship with the ones who protect and the
ones who need protection. There continues to be mistrust within the community not only from the
public, but from the police regarding the public as well. Through research, I would like to gather data
on why people within the public mistrust the police and why the police mistrust the public.
Considering this is a local issue within the community the scope of research will be relative to Texas
and not go beyond the United States. I will also only include information relevant to this time, and
because of that will leave out research conducted before the year 2000. Using this data and analysis I
would like to promote good relations as well as effective methods on how to obtain good relations
between the public and police. Good relations are vital for police and civilians. The information
gathered would benefit both parties greatly and could have positive effects such as less time wasted
during traffic stops and less force being required. Some obstacles that may prevent a better
relationship from being established would be the individuals, both within the community and within
the police department, who are closed minded and tend to indulge in confirmation bias. Many who
already have their mind made up either about the police or about the public, will often stick to their
beliefs

Critisicm On Pride And Prejudice Essay
Materialistic Marriage in Pride and Prejudice
Each individual in this world surely have a dream to get married once they grow up, especially with
the one they love. Even though today s society accepts unmarried relationship where couples live
together and have babies out of wedlock, in the end marriage is what they hope for as a symbol of
their relationship. Clearly, marriage is a must in human s life. This necessity influences humans to
create stories that end with marriage and live happily ever after. Pride and Prejudice, written by Jane
Austen, is also one of those stories that fulfils this criterion. In this novel, Jane Austen described
various marriages which differ from each other. Instead of love, there are marriages that are ... Show

The business of her life was to get her daughters married. (Austen 3). If the entailment is really
applied on that society, then the biggest failing in this novel is the property that Miss King and Lady
Catherine de Burgh inherited. From the entailment s rule it is clearly wrong for Miss King and Lady
Catherine de Burgh to be the heirs because they are ladies. If the entailment is applied to everyone but
the royal classes, it is not applicable because Miss King does not represent the royal class. Externally
this contradiction makes the readers reckon that the author had made a huge mistake. Jane Austen
actually created two situations that are differentiated by the entailment. Ladies who are bonded with
the entailment are keen to attach themselves with rich men. For instance Mrs. Bennet, although she is
not the one who should get married, she wants Elizabeth to be married with Mr. Collins so that the
entailment would not be such a difficult thing.
This was his [Mr. Collins] plan of amends of atonement for inheriting their father s estate; and he
thought it an excellent one... His plan did not vary on seeing them. Miss Bennet s lovely face confirms
his views... (Austen 53).
This quote represents the part when Mr. Collins plans to marry one of Bennet s daughters to ease the
inheritance

I feel it is important that Immanuel participates in the wreath laying at Arlington Memorial because
having the opportunity to remember and appreciate the ultimate sacrifices veterans have given to serve
our country is truly a tremendous honor. Arlington memorial is a final resting place for more than
400,000 veterans and counting that have served during the Civil War, the Cold War, World War 1 and
2, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the wars in the Middle East. I believe the Tomb of the
Unknown is a memorial for all veterans but especially a memorial to remember and to never forget all
the veterans who couldn t be identified. It s amazing that we, as students have the chance to honor our
country and our veterans. The United States is one of the only countries in the

Analysis Of The Chimney Sweeper
The chimney sweeper draft version Set in the times of the Industrial Revolution, Blake s The Chimney
Sweeper is a powerful attempt to fight one of the biggest social injustices at the time: child labour. He
illustrates the heartbreaking life story of thousands of kids through two different points of view, one is
exposed in the poem pertaining to Songs of Innocence (1789) and the other one is exposed in Songs of
Experience (1794). Both poems share the same outline; however, it is the narrator s view the one that
changes drastically between the poems. In the eldest version, the reader is presented with a young
chimney sweeper full of hope and aspiration whereas in the most recent poem the author reflected a
slightly more experienced child that does not believe in the system anymore. The maturity expressed
by the last chimney sweeper is not only seen in his ideals but the whole poem is a 180 degrees
deflection from the 1789 version. The author tried to make the change between the poems was present
not only in the content of each poem but also in all aspects possible so readers would get that
______sensation constantly. Blake decided not to give a great importance mentioning the harsh life
conditions of chimney sweepers and instead let reader to easily infer them from the text. By doing
this, he achieved that once the readers realize what is actually, the life of a chimney sweeper the cruel
reality hits them even harder. The first difference that surely will be noticed, even

  • 2. How Did The Great Leap Forward Have An Impact On Chinese... The Communist fervor that gripped mainland China under Mao Zedong s rule had lasting effects on the economy and culture. In particular, the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution devastated rural and peasant populations, leading to fatal consequences for a large portion of the chinese demographic. The Great Leap Forward was an attempt at socializing the chinese economy almost ten years after the People s Republic of China was established in 1949. Property and businesses were stripped from private owners by the government and given to community leaders to run with the help of community members. Unfortunately, revolutionary passion blinded community leaders and the government. The former over reported food production while the latter continued to support a failing economic structure and policy. This lead to the Great Chinese Famine, and a decline in economic productivity and revolutionary zeal. The Great Cultural Revolution was meant to reinvigorate the revolutionary spirit. Launched several years after the failure of the Great Leap Forward, the Cultural Revolution targeted the youth. A successful propaganda campaign mobilized groups of mostly disadvantaged youth (red guards) and the working class to purge those antithetical to the movement. Millions were killed in the resulting class warfare which targeted capitalists, rightists, and landlords. The effects of these influential events are still explored in modern chinese cinema many years after their occurrence. An ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Imagery In The Help Don t you ever wish you could change things? (10). In Jackson, Mississippi during the 1960 s, woman ahead of her time, Miss Skeeter, proposes an idea to write a book about the lives of colored maids in Jackson. Aibileen and Minny, two maids, are among the first ones to agree to help Skeeter, despite the potential danger to themselves. In The Help, Kathryn Stockett creates an engaging and immersive world that explores racism and social injustice by using well developed writing, the ideal amount of imagery, and strong characters. Often times authors, especially new authors, make the mistake of crafting paragraphs that don t flow, are hard to understand, or don t make sense. In The Help, well developed writing is used often and well. Early ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In writing, an author should be mindful of what they are trying to accomplish with what they are describing. Stockett is able to accomplish this when she uses imagery thoughtfully. In the lounge, the air seems to still. Husbands drinking their whiskeys stop in mid sip, spotting this pink thing at the door. It takes a second for the image to register. They stare, but don t see, not yet. But as it turns real real skin, real cleavage, perhaps not so real blond hair their faces slowly light up. They all seem to be thinking the same thing Finally... But then, feeling the fingernails of their wives, also starring, digging into their arms, their foreheads wrinkle. Their eyes hint remorse, as marriages are scorned (she never lets me do anything fun), youth is remembered (why didn t I go to California that summer?), first loves are recalled (Roxanne . . .). All of this happens in a span of about five seconds and then it is over and they are left just staring (321). Imagery provides a way for a character and conflict to develop. Also, since imagery provides a way for the reader to immerse themselves in a story, it is considered a defining part of what makes a good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Advertising And The Adverse Exposure Of Publicity An advertising mishap may lead to negative ad reviews, and or ratings; bad publicity is never welcome. However, how you handle the reflux of the situation will set you apart as not only a thriving business, but in terms of recovering clients and revamping business. The way the situation is handled will either define your business or decline it. Gaining a clearer understanding of the link between the role of advertising and the adverse exposure of publicity would further contribute to the knowledge of aspects to be considered when planning a positive strategy in order to combat negative stigmas. Advertising is the action of calling something to the attention of the public especially by paid announcements (Webster, 2015). Advertising has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the context of relationship marketing, customer satisfaction is often viewed as a central determinant of customer retention (Henning Thurau, 1998). Customer satisfaction is one piece of the puzzle to and overall well executed advertisement and essentially product. Advertising is important to the customer, who is the one who purchases the product after they have been made aware of the product s availability. Advertising helps find the best fit for customers via product. Advertising is important to society because it helps to educate the masses. Advertisements go beyond the products and they address social standards and current issues, as well. There are many elements that make up a successful advertisement and or campaign. There are a few strategically applied principles that successful advertisements follow. Advertisements are keyed, along with other means to discover the exact values and styles of advertisements and of each medium in which they were inserted (Scott, INSERT NUMBER). Advertising has its influence over the human minds, if it is not successful in this aspect, then it becomes useless and destructive to the firms attempting it (Scott, NUMBER). Abstract: The aim of this research is to consider dark tourism and discuss what are the tourism management issues generated by the growth of this phenomenon. To clarify this concept, the report will also include a definition of dark tourism, a brief background of why this type of tourism is continuously increasing, and finally conclusions will be drawn. Keywords: culture management, visitor number management, safeguard, vandalism, conservation Introduction: Dark tourism has been defined as encompassing the visitation to any site associated with death, disaster and tragedy in the twentieth century for remembrance, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Auschwitz camp is a perfect example for this. It is in the process of continual erosion; the growth of vegetation and foliage coverage has to be managed and controlled. As Lennon and Foley (2004) further suggest, there should be management rather than restoration. This dark attraction has swelled visitor number and catalysed economic activity. A very important issue also identified is that of culture management. Tourist must be given a code of conduct and be educated to behave in a certain way when visiting particular sites as to conform and integrate with the local community to avoid conflict. Tourist themselves have, or should have, an obligation to observe codes of behaviour and be aware of cultural norms in the destination they are visiting (Howie, 2003). Some behaviour such as alcohol abuse, shouting, fighting should not be permitted as these might insult the local community and lack of respect needed in these tragedy sites. While at Auschwitz Birkenau, groups of schoolchildren were taking photographs of each other, parents were photographing their children at the gates of Birkenau and indeed, school parties were sitting on the ruins of the crematorium eating sandwiches(Lennon and Foley, 2004). Furthermore funds required to conserve sites will also be of consideration. The two options that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Richard Plantagenet Essay For this project I would like to research the public opinion and reception of the political reforms made by Richard Plantagenet as both Duke of Gloucester and King of England. Upon his brother Edward IV s regaining of the throne in 1471, Richard gained properties and offices in the far north of England previously enjoyed only by lords of long standing families such as the Percys. As Duke of Gloucester, Richard served as an extension of royal power and was charged with constructing some semblance of order. Repeatedly, Richard used his close relationship with the king to settle disputes between nobility and local governments in favor of the latter. This suggests an affinity for the lesser classes that continued during his brief reign. In a previous research project I discussed Richard s 1484 Parliament and how it sought to benefit the general public over the nobility. While this argument was backed by fairly substantial evidence as to the intent of the laws and amendments, the public reaction to them was not addressed. Unfortunately, it is virtually impossible to follow up on the effects of these parliamentary statutes as, after his death in 1485, many of Richard s reforms were eradicated or ... • 7. The Issue Of Annexation Movements Inside Canada Isn t it sad to see a Parliament building burnt on the night of April 25th, 1849 to mark as one of our historical importance of establishing Canada? The definition of annexation is to take over and acquiring another state. Usually, it is implied that the territory and population being annexed is the smaller and the weakest of the two merging state. By definition, Manifesto is a public declaration of policy and aims. Annexation movements inside Canada were usually inspired by dissatisfaction with Britain s colonial government of Canada. For example, a groups of Irish immigrants took the route of attempting to annex the peninsula between the Detroit and Niagara Rivers to the U.S. by force in 1837 1838. The War of 1812 built up hatred overtime between the Americans and the British. But as a result, there were no territorial changes. Another significant event before the Annexation Manifesto was the Rebellion of 1837. It caused a backfire which led to a massive violence when Lower and Upper Canada took arms to achieve a responsible government. Although the Rebellions of 1837 were motivated in part by this type of dissatisfaction, Canadian resentment of British rule never reached the degree that led to the American Revolution in 1775. Notably, Canada s population grew rapidly in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Canada s population grew due to United Empire Loyalists, who left the American colonies during the Revolution because of their loyalty to Great Britain. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Issues Of Modern Society s Racial Discrimination Andy Xiao ASTU 100A February 8th, 2016 Issues of Modern Society s Racial Discrimination Is the society s draconian attendance towards the people of distinguishable race a fair measure of precaution or an act of discrimination? In the society we live in today, the enactment of racial bias has made a monumental impact, shaping many individuals lives by default. However, is it fair for the innocent individuals to be shrouded with the burden of being a particular race ? After witnessing, the incident of Ferguson, I became dreadfully discontented to discovered that people today have self established the immense belief that people of color are the primary cause of danger, and therefore, they must be regarded as hazardous creatures. Moreover, the reason triggering the detrimental policing was due to the color of the victims, illustrating the ugly truth of racial profiling still remains intact to our society. Although racial profiling and prejudice are disavowed publicly by Americans, many statistics and research on implicit racial bias debated the citizens of the United States still perceive a person s physical in determining their likeliness to committee crime (Bornstein, Avram). Unfortunately, it is ingrained in today s society that institutional structures demonstrate persistent inequality and unequal distribution of societal resources (White, Rob). ... Therefore, the answer to my question is no, a country does not need to have a high GDP to maintain a high literacy rate. How Did Hippies Change The World Revolutionising not only America but around the world, hippies completely changed the way we think about the world and altered our perception of societal norms. The word hippie is derived from the word hipster which in the 1950 s meant hip or up to date. Most believe believe the only places hippies were influential or successful had to do with drugs or the Vietnam War, but that s false. Hippies had influence in many areas, including fashion, gay rights, and women s rights. Hippies have forever changed the fashion world. Huge designers like Coco Chanel and Emilio Pucci continue to create new works inspired by what the hippies wore. Hippies believed fashion was all about wearing what you love. The very existence of hippies went against society norms; they were all about going against what society told them they had to be and was just about being yourself. However, typical items you could find hippies wearing included homemade beads, tie dye clothes, headbands, and most women began wearing what men typically wore like jeans, but also loved flower print items. Soils from a Cumberland Plain Woodland community were investigated to determine the presence of a soil seed bank; and whether species richness and abundance of plants germinating from it were affected by heating such as that experienced in a fire. Discussion: The results of the experiment demonstrate that if Acacia decurrens seeds are subjected to the heat treatment by placing the seeds in boiling water and leaving them in that same water for a period of 24 hours, then the rate at which the seeds germinate will be affected. It can be suggested that this increased germination rate occurs because the boiling water, by which the seeds were soaked in, breaks down the hard coating on the outside layer of the seed, thus allowing the seedling to penetrate through the coating and begin the germination process. Below the glass transition, they reveal an inhomogeneous deformation, which leads to the appearance of discrete and thin shear bands, resulting of its non hardenable nature (KAWAMURA et al., 1997). However, in the supercooled liquid region, (ΔT), BMGs usually exhibit a drastic reduction of viscosity, and therefore, present a Newtonian flow behavior (WANG et al., 2005), and can retain its amorphous structure even after large plastic deformation (KIM, MA, and JEONG, 2003). Liquidmetal Technologies Company made the first attempt to industrialize the use of this new engineering material. They were unsuccessful for two main reasons: (1) the newly developed die casting route introduced flow lines on the surface of the part that acted like crack initiation sites, (2) in 1997 the US Golf Association restricted the limit of how springy golf clubs could be (JOHNSON, 2015). Zr based BMGs can transfer up to 99% of the applied energy to the golf plate, whereas steel golf plates transfer 60% and titanium transfer 70% (WANG, DONG and SHEK, 2004). BMGs were also applied in other high end sporting goods such as tennis rackets, and may find applications for baseball bats, bicycle frames, hunting bows, and skis (WANG, DONG and SHEK, 2004). Inoue et al. (2003), informed the use of Fe based BMGs powders as shot peening balls. Shoot peening generates a residual compressive stress field onto the surface of metals. They reported that the residual stress caused by BMGs shot peening balls, leading to increased hardness and resilience, is far superior to that of conventional crystalline shot peening balls. We tried to haul it back to camp, but it was very heavy and the water made it even harder so we decided just to tag it and leave it and come when we had more help. When we got back to camp we celebrated with some victory hot chocolate. It was around nine in the morning so the other boys wouldn t be coming back for a couple more hours and I was very anxious to tell them the news. After a while we saw Rhett walking back to camp. I ran outside to tell him about our success, but he thought I was kidding! I pulled out my phone and showed him the picture and he thought I got it off the internet. So, I decided we would go back to the deer and he could help us pull it out of the swamp. • 22. Analysis Of Homer s The Odyssey Homer s The Odyssey is about Odysseus s journey back home after war. Just like in every journey, Odysseus changes as the story progresses but the one the thing that does not change is the use of his mind and sharp witted he is. There is an underlying theme of body versus mind in this epic. This theme is noticeable in book eight lines 174 to 194. In this passage Odysseus is responding to LĂ odamas s challenge of joining in their games. In Odysseus s response he focuses on birth, brains, or speech and brings up the question of which is more important body or mind. Through his choice of wording and a few metaphors, Odysseus makes it seem like the mind is more important to him all within twenty lines. The structure and progression of this passage lends an outlook on Odysseus s thoughts towards the idea of body versus mind. Odysseus bases this passage off of birth, brains, or speech and then builds on that with examples. This passage can then essentially be broken down into four separate parts. Odysseus begins with an example of a man that is a master of speech and through his speech he can seem beautiful to people. Then Odysseus briefly speaks about an actual handsome man who does not have the ability to speak eloquently. For his third example, he does not use a random man but instead directly targets LĂ odamas and how unintelligible he is. The final section of this passage is a reflection of Odysseus s emotions towards what LĂ odamas has said to him. Since Odysseus s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reign Of Richard II Essay Chadwick Petty William Shakespeare Hum1030 The Reign of Richard II With Richard II, then, Shakespeare turns to the events that had launched England s century of crisis (Bevington, 2014). These events were still fresh and relevant to Elizabethan minds (Bevington, 2014). To begin with, we should not underestimate Richard s attractive qualities, as a man and even as a king (Bevington, 2014). Richard is consistently more impressive and majestic than his rival, Bolingbroke (Bevington, 2014). Richard fascinates us with his verbal sensitivity, his poetic insight, and his dramatic self consciousness (Bevington, 2014). Bodies talk first in throughout Richard II primarily because indulgence, in the garden of England as in the Garden of Eden, is quickly branded the most significant threat to the stability of Richard s monarchy (Hoffmann, 2009). John of Gaunt may be the only character to understand that appetite is as much a matter of power as it is of desire, taste or need , and that to control appetite is to control power, but Richard himself perceives and worries over the same relationship (Hoffmann, 2009). Just as Genesis s garden of Eden, the cultural narrative of Richard s England demands that those judged guilty of overindulgence be banished, along with their intemperate appetites (Hoffmann, 2009). Richard II assumes, often to his own detriment, that his position at the top of the political food chain, while it may not render him immune from threats, still gives him prerogative to banish those threats before they materialize (Hoffmann, 2009). Furthermore, he executes these punishments without ever defining exactly what it is he is punishing (Hoffman, 2009). He responds to perceived threats not as examples/offshoots of his own vile participation, his own destructive appetites, but as already external menaces, monsters/monstrosities that necessitate banishment and imprisonment outside the borders of civilization (Hoffmann, 2009). • 24. A Modest Proposal Rhetorical Analysis During the late seventeenth century, political pamphlets were distributed throughout Ireland to promote the ideas of various intellectuals and laymen. However, many discarded them and did not pay attention to them. Jonathan Swift, author of A Modest Proposal, takes lead for these unnoticed pamphlets and builds a proposal he thinks would help Ireland economy. A Modest Proposal is an ironic example that presents the attitude of rich towards poor and their starving kids. Jonathan uses various elements like metaphors, repetitions, irony and parallelism to focus on destructive defiance of the writing. Jonathan swift starts by blaming the mothers of these children that they should start working and get some earning to support these kids. He also foretells the future of these children that they will turn into thieves or sell themselves to foreign countries for money. According to Swift, it is just because the parents did not train their children the unassertive way of life and could not give them a proper lifestyle. In A Modest Proposal Jonathan Swift does not blame the shortcomings of Ireland on the people. He says that the people, politicians, and English were all to be at fault for the terrible state and poverty of Ireland. there are three factors that make Swift s argument not serious: the tone of the author, his insincerity, and ridiculousness of the proposal. Swift states that because these women kept having children and could not provide food to them, the economy of Ireland and standard of living couldn t improve. So, he makes a proposal to the public that he thinks would be beneficial for them. His way of thinking and argument is incorrect in what he is proposing as He marks that young healthy children are delicious food to be roasted, stewed and boiled to be served and eaten by rich British people. Similarly, he estimates that twenty thousand kids should be held in reserve for breeding purposes. This brutalizes how children should be treated like animals. Jonathan swift trying to support his argument, in a very sarcastic way states that certain body parts of children are good to eat and on special occasions could be held on demand. furthermore, he advises that healthy and nourished kids could be ... The organizational structures of political and economic systems cause and sustain the sort of hierarchical relations that enable dramatic differences between and across sectors of societies. Within these hierarchies, the people at the top have privilege, wealth, and power, while those at the bottom of the hierarchy are dominated, oppressed, and exploited (Christie, 1997). People are harmed and killed as a result of structural violence but, unlike direct violence, it occurs more slowly. The harm or death of oppressed people may come about because some people are deprived of food, shelter, healthcare, and other resources (Christie, 1997). Because structural violence is embedded in a society s way of being, over the long term, groups of people may not be able to meet their basic needs to the degree that normal development and growth is impacted. In the 1960s, Johan Galtung posited the construct of violence as a phenomenon generated by the existence of social barriers that deny needs satisfaction in certain sectors of society. Galtung s conceptual framework illustrates the relationship between the structure of society and the inequalities experienced by its citizens. Gilman s seminal definition of structural violence reads, physical and psychological harm that results from exploitive and unjust social, political, and economic systems (1983, p. 8). ... (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Mental_illness_diagnosis_by_DSM_and_ISCDRHP 20k ) Both these traits are thought to predict the risk of developing schizophrenia, but researchers such as Claridge have tried to predetermine all the main symptoms of schizophrenia from the clinical to the non clinical population. It was said that Eysenck focused more on impulsive, sensation seeking, cruel and solitary behaviors, who only mildly referred to the perceptual distortions or cognitive and attention problems. Therefore he concluded that even if the traits have some similarities, they are unlikely to be identical. (Cooper, 2002, pp. 146 7). In Plato s laws and Xenophon s Hiero, a further wise man other than Socrates acted as the leader of the discourse. While having protagonist confabs in Plato s and Xenophon s works, Socrates tries to interrogate understanding of the further man on the aspect of morality. Socrates presented himself as a less knowledgeable person in the domain of moral issues to confuse the other person who boasts of being more knowledgeable on the same. Using this ironical approach known as the Socratic Irony , Socrates was able to illustrate inconsistency of the other person s views on morality. Although the early and middle works of Plato are considered as Socratic dialogue, understanding the composition and chronology of Plato s work is a bit complex since even the ancient sources do not present these works chronologically. Plato s work basically involved posing questions and answers as a way of stimulating critical thinking. Defender of a particular point of view would be questioned, and then one of the parties would contradict himself in order to confuse his counterpart and in doing so, the defender would be made weak. Socrates discourses revolved around traditions, justice, afterlife and education. • 38. The War And Plato s Symposium, And The Man Discussed In two very different works we see two equally different portrayals of the same man; these differences are informed by the author s purpose, the genre of the work, and the effects of the depiction upon the rest of the specific work. These works are of course Thucydides , The History of the Peloponnesian War and Plato s Symposium, and the man discussed is the Athenian giant, Alcibiades of the Alcmaeonidae. The authors, of course, have their own aims and reasons for writing their works, Plato, writing an allegory on love likely to defend his teacher Socrates, and Thucydides, to inform on what he believes to be the most significant war in history. The genres of the works being philosophy and history respectively also affects the rhetoric of Alcibiades speech; as well as his greater portrayals in the works. It is important to note the differences in the depictions as they are significant not only to understanding the literary merit of the works, but also furthering the knowledge with respect to the author s motives and the state of higher opinion on a maverick of a man in the late 5th and early 4th Centuries BC in Athens. The first significant variance one must note between the author s works is the rhetoric and aims of the speeches Alcibiades makes in the two works. In Plato s Symposium all the major characters are at a dinner party and are giving speeches about eros, the Greek concept of love, and there is quite an awkward relationship squabble occurring between Socrates and ... • 40. Emperor And Nationalist Ideology Essay The Emperor and Nationalist Ideology in Meiji Era Japan The Meiji Era in Japan is known as a time of rapid industrialization and Westernization where many institutions of society were realigned in one form or another to be consistent with their Western counterparts. Ironically, at the same time, it was a period of growing nationalistic feelings that began to develop in Japanese society. However, besides being a reactionary or nostalgic feeling experienced by the population, this nationalist ideology was also actively promoted by the Meiji leadership. Central to this ideology was the emperor who was effectively and successfully used as a tool for legitimizing the Meiji government. According to myth, the Japanese emperor is a ... • 41. Cell Phones Are Ordinary Today Cell phones are ordinary today. Very nearly everybody has one. My grandma conveys an iPhone and my dad a man who once swore he d never convey a telephone with him anyplace slaps a Samsung Galaxy S III with an OtterBox case on his hip each morning. It wasn t generally so. I was the main individual at my secondary school educators and organization included with a cell phone. To start with, I had the Moto Q, then the BlackBerry Pearl 8130, trailed by the Curve 8330. Furthermore, that is the place my story started, in 2006, taking lesson notes (read: playing Brick Breaker and Asteroids) on an incredible QWERTY console about a large portion of the palm s extent of my hand. Trust it or not, cell phone history backtracks over 10 years before that. Things were ... intriguing in those days. In the first place, what is a cell phone? Turns out, the real definition, regardless of the source, is very ambiguous. Merriam Webster compactly calls a cell phone a PDA that incorporates extra programming capacities (as email or an Internet program). Oxford Dictionaries, then again, gets somewhat more exact by saying a cell phone has the capacity perform a hefty portion of the elements of a PC, commonly having a moderately expansive screen and a working framework equipped for running universally useful applications. In any case, there is an almost negligible difference between what is and isn t a cell phone nowadays, regardless of the fact that the purported moronic or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Aren t those all attributes most people yearn for? • 44. Importance Of Police Mistrust The Police Although the police are, for the most part, respected here in Victoria, Texas, there are always more things to be done in order to effectively create a solid relationship with the ones who protect and the ones who need protection. There continues to be mistrust within the community not only from the public, but from the police regarding the public as well. Through research, I would like to gather data on why people within the public mistrust the police and why the police mistrust the public. Considering this is a local issue within the community the scope of research will be relative to Texas and not go beyond the United States. I will also only include information relevant to this time, and because of that will leave out research conducted before the year 2000. Using this data and analysis I would like to promote good relations as well as effective methods on how to obtain good relations between the public and police. Good relations are vital for police and civilians. The information gathered would benefit both parties greatly and could have positive effects such as less time wasted during traffic stops and less force being required. Some obstacles that may prevent a better relationship from being established would be the individuals, both within the community and within the police department, who are closed minded and tend to indulge in confirmation bias. Many who already have their mind made up either about the police or about the public, will often stick to their beliefs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Critisicm On Pride And Prejudice Essay Materialistic Marriage in Pride and Prejudice Each individual in this world surely have a dream to get married once they grow up, especially with the one they love. Even though today s society accepts unmarried relationship where couples live together and have babies out of wedlock, in the end marriage is what they hope for as a symbol of their relationship. Clearly, marriage is a must in human s life. This necessity influences humans to create stories that end with marriage and live happily ever after. Pride and Prejudice, written by Jane Austen, is also one of those stories that fulfils this criterion. In this novel, Jane Austen described various marriages which differ from each other. If the entailment is really applied on that society, then the biggest failing in this novel is the property that Miss King and Lady Catherine de Burgh inherited. From the entailment s rule it is clearly wrong for Miss King and Lady Catherine de Burgh to be the heirs because they are ladies. If the entailment is applied to everyone but the royal classes, it is not applicable because Miss King does not represent the royal class. Externally this contradiction makes the readers reckon that the author had made a huge mistake. Jane Austen actually created two situations that are differentiated by the entailment. Ladies who are bonded with the entailment are keen to attach themselves with rich men. For instance Mrs. Bennet, although she is not the one who should get married, she wants Elizabeth to be married with Mr. Collins so that the entailment would not be such a difficult thing. This was his [Mr. Collins] plan of amends of atonement for inheriting their father s estate; and he thought it an excellent one... His plan did not vary on seeing them. • 47. Analysis Of The Chimney Sweeper The chimney sweeper draft version Set in the times of the Industrial Revolution, Blake s The Chimney Sweeper is a powerful attempt to fight one of the biggest social injustices at the time: child labour. He illustrates the heartbreaking life story of thousands of kids through two different points of view, one is exposed in the poem pertaining to Songs of Innocence (1789) and the other one is exposed in Songs of Experience (1794). Both poems share the same outline; however, it is the narrator s view the one that changes drastically between the poems. In the eldest version, the reader is presented with a young chimney sweeper full of hope and aspiration whereas in the most recent poem the author reflected a slightly more experienced child that does not believe in the system anymore. The maturity expressed by the last chimney sweeper is not only seen in his ideals but the whole poem is a 180 degrees deflection from the 1789 version. The author tried to make the change between the poems was present not only in the content of each poem but also in all aspects possible so readers would get that ______sensation constantly. Blake decided not to give a great importance mentioning the harsh life conditions of chimney sweepers and instead let reader to easily infer them from the text. By doing this, he achieved that once the readers realize what is actually, the life of a chimney sweeper the cruel reality hits them even harder.
