Essay on Benedict Arnold
Benedict Arnold
The name Benedict Arnold has become a synonym for a traitor to one s country. In the first years of
the American Revolution, however, Arnold was a brilliant and dashing general, highly respected for
his service to the patriot cause (see Revolution, American).
Benedict Arnold was born on Jan. 14, 1741, in Norwich, Conn. His father,
Benedict, was a well to do landowner. His mother was Hannah King Waterman Arnold.
While a boy, young Arnold twice ran away to join the colonial troops fighting in the French and Indian
War. When he was 21 he settled in New Haven. In time he became a prosperous merchant and a
captain in the Connecticut militia. He married Margaret Mansfield in 1767. They had three sons.

He was given a command and about 6,300. He served with the British for the rest of the war, leading
troops on raids in Virginia and Connecticut. After the war he lived with his family in England. He
failed to obtain a regular commission in the British army and failed also in several business ventures,
including land speculation in Canada. He died in London on June 14, 1801.
In the first years of the American Revolution, Arnold was a brilliant and courageous general, highly
respected for his service to the patriot cause.
Benedict Arnold was born on Jan. 14, 1741, in Norwich, Conn. He was a very daring boy. He once ran
on a millwheel with another kid. He was also known to love fireworks and once was caught lighting a
jug of gunpowder that would have resulted in a big explosion. When he was a little older (about 17),
Arnold twice ran away to join the colonial troops fighting in the French and Indian War.
When he was 21 he moved to New Haven. In time he became a prosperous merchant and a captain in
the Connecticut militia. He married Margaret Mansfield in 1767.
They had three sons.
Arnold played a gallant part in the American Revolution and became a major general in 1777. His
wife had died in 1775 and early in 1779 he married Margaret
Shippen, by whom he had four sons and one daughter. Arnold was not careful with his money and
soon found himself hard up for cash. It was because of this that he began his treasonable activities.

Change At Green Mountain Resort
Change at Green Mountain Resort Green Mountain Resort was a hospitality organization which
underwent significant change after its original purpose vanished and the need to become more
independent became key to its success (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). Due to the demographics of the
county which Green Mountain Resort was located, the resort management faced a challenged
concerning human capital (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). The new owner and manager, Gunter,
identified human capital turnover as a problem, the hospitality industry claimed turnover as a chronic
problem, and a newly hire consultant brought up an entirely new perspective to the so called turnover
problem (Palmer, Dunford Akin, 2009). We ll first review Gunter s perspective and approach. Initially,
Gunter s image of change outcome was that of a controlling director. He identified a potential problem
area (turnover) and assumed through intended control, change could be achievable (Palmer, Dunford,
Akin, 2009). After further analysis, Gunter also identified limitations from outside factors, such as
available human capital resources making him somewhat of a navigator with only partially intended
outcome. As a director, Gunter intended to simply fix the turnover problem. As a navigator, he
recognized the outside factors. This led him to seek further analysis through further industry research
(Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). Hospitality industry research indicated turnover was a chronic

Cyber Surveillance And Intrusion Detection System Essay
Abstract
In this era of technology, everything is available at just one click; Security is a big issue when we talk
about networks. Hackers and intruders are getting smarter. There are various methods to secure the
network infrastructure and communication over the Internet, for example firewalls, encryption, and
virtual private networks. Intrusion detection is a relatively new approach to such techniques. By using
intrusion detection, we can collect and use information from known types of attacks and find out if
someone is trying to attack the network/host.
Keywords: intrusion detection system
I. Introduction
Intrusions are the activities that violate the security policy of system. Intruders may be from outside
the network or legitimate users of the network. Intrusion can be a physical, system or remote intrusion.
Intrusion Detection is the process used to identify intrusions i.e. a piece of software that monitors a
computer system or network resources to detect malicious activities unauthorized attempts to use the
system or abuse of existing privileges in a network or on a host system. It identifies and stops attacks
in progress and conducts forensic analysis once attack is over. It detects intrusions and attacks that
were not stopped by preventative techniques (firewalls, packet filtering routers, proxy servers. In this
whole approach, determining who is much harder than just detecting that an intrusion occurred.

Summary Of Ray Bradbury s Dandelion Wine
Everyone suffers loss at some point in their lives but, it affects people differently. Some are more
vocal about their feelings than others. Nevertheless, the pain of loss can push growth and maturity in
everyone. The harsh sting of loss however will never be as strong as the love from friends and family.
In Ray Bradbury s novel Dandelion Wine, the citizens of Green Town, Illinois endure loss in its many
forms. There is the death of a loved one, extraction of an object no matter how insignificant, and the
end of youth. These are portrayed during the events of the book as they happen to twelve year old
Douglas (Doug) Spaulding.
Throughout Dandelion Wine, Doug loses some important people in his life. Some are lost because of
death and one is forced to leave. The first loss of a person Doug suffers is Colonel Freeleigh. The
Colonel, nicknamed the Time machine , is an old man who has a very vivid and long standing
memory. Doug and his friend love to visit him since he able to tell wonderful stories of his past. He
dies of natural causes, but his death still comes as a shock for Doug. Later, his great grandma dies of
old age. She is ready to die and offers Doug some calming words about death. She tells him, Important
thing is not the me that s lying here, but the me that s sitting on the edge of the bed looking back at me
... I am not really dying today. No person ever died that had a family. I ll be around a long time
(Bradbury 183). These words are to tell Doug that she is not

Tapes In 13 Reasons Why By Jay Asher
In the book, 13 Reasons Why, by Jay Asher, a girl named Hannah Baker records a box of cassette
tapes before she commits suicide. Each tape is a reason why she took her life. The box is delivered to
a boy named Clay Jensen. Clay was the love interest of Hannah Baker, so he is concerned why he
received the tapes. As the tapes go on, it finally comes to his name. Hannah s tape to Clay was very
much unlike the other tapes. The other tapes were very resentful to call them out on what they had
done. Clay s story was different. During every tape, she would build up the perfection of each person,
before exposing their secrets. Hannah explained on the tape that Clay did not belong on the list. She
wanted to explain to him what happened on their night.

maintain a positive reputation as one of South Carolinas premiere public service agencies.
DJJ Overview
According to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (2011) website, DJJ is a state cabinet
agency, and by law it is also a treatment and rehabilitative agency for the state s juveniles. DJJ is
responsible for providing custodial care and rehabilitation for the state s children who are incarcerated,
on probation or parole, or in community placement for a criminal or status offense. DJJ s mission is to
protect the public and reclaim juveniles through acts of prevention, community programs, education,
and rehabilitative services in the least restrictive environment possible. DJJ is able to make their
mission a reality through aligning with a wide range of different divisions. The organizational
structure of DJJ is impeccable. They service juveniles, their families and the community through 43
county offices, and operating in all 46 of the state s counties. DJJ (2011) explains that, Case managers
are involved with juveniles from the moment they enter the system until they complete probation
and/or parole. In addition, they conduct detention screenings and intake interviews, complete
risk/needs assessments, and make recommendations to the family court judges regarding case
disposition. They also coordinate case diversion and supervise

Describe Your Happy Place
Where is your happy place? I grew up on the mid north coast of NSW in a small town called Valla
Beach which was nestled between the bush and the beach. Because it was such a small town in which
most people knew each other, I was granted relative freedom to roam the native environment and
explore. I have very fond memories of riding my scooter up and down the streets with my friends and
neighbours, cantering through the bush in front of my house, making up stories about my life if I had
lived there and spending all day on the beach, crisping in the sun. Being inside seemed like such a dull
affair when you could be immersed in a different world, a natural world. I feel as if these early life
experiences led me to always have a special connection with the natural environment as it was the one
true place that I could seek comfort and clarity my happy place.
Across the road from my house was extensive bushland that stretched a few kilometres until it was cut
off by the highway. In many ways, it was my childhood playground. There was a small dam in the
bushland that I often took my dog to play fetch and cool off. There was a bush track that winded up
and down hills and ended in a small little clearing and there was also dirt bike tracks that a local boy
had made from scrap materials. When I was 12, a housing development crew came to town and begun
marking out the land to demolish to build new estates and within weeks they were underway. They
began draining the dam to make way

Post Secondary Public School Systems
Applying this reactionary philosophy of organizational change to post secondary public school
systems is the exact jumpstart that this environment truly needs. Indeed, this particular approach is
especially applicable to post secondary public school systems because it places a strong focus on the
change aspect of organizational change, taking steps to improve with every failure. This is useful
because this environment is one of live and learn. That is, post secondary public school systems
oftentimes rely on management theories that must be tweaked and changed as weaknesses or flaws
emerge in them. On the other hand, this particular organizational change theory would essentially
anticipate these failures, and pre construct varying concepts and theories around these failures,
essentially preparing for them before they even occur (Weick Quinn, 1999). Essentially, as research
into what, exactly, constitutes organizational change continues to advance, so, too, will the
possibilities within post secondary public school systems. Yet, on a more specific note, four key
theories have emerged that can be directly applied to post secondary public school systems. The first
of these are life cycle theories, which possess an event sequence of start up, grow, harvest, terminate,
and start up, with a generative mechanism of immanent program or regulation (Weick Quinn, 1999).
This organizational change sub theory is important because it sets things up in a cyclical fashion,

Should Children Be Exposed To Violent Media
In the world one is currently living in, there has been an increase in the acts of violence occurring.
Violent media has become a greatly discussed topic where there is always two sides to this argument,
one side says they are just games and the other can agree that they have a greater impact. Parents
usually chose a side and stick to it but the reality is that they don t look carefully what both sides have
to say. Gerald Jones states that violent media is good for kids because it helps them develop their
personality but the truth is that children should not be exposed to violent media since it affect their
emotional stability, creates a hostile attitude, and affects their health. That being said the cons are

Testosterone In Sports
People are a normally aggressive animal varieties. For whatever length of time that we have had
games to contend in, competitors have attempted a wide range of things to be the best. Competitors
have utilized different substances and mixtures to enhance athletic execution since the start of human
advancement. The old Greeks ate sesame seeds, the Australian natives bit the pituri plant, Norse
warriors ate stimulating mushrooms, and old societies around the globe had comparative customs.
In the 1860s, a gathering of swimmers in Amsterdam were accused of taking medications to accelerate
their races. For the following 80 years or somewhere in the vicinity, competitors who needed to cheat
concentrated for the most part on stimulants to speed themselves up.
In 1935, the male hormone testosterone was initially incorporated. Amid World War II, German
fighters were apparently offered testosterone to build their execution and forcefulness on the war zone.
In the 1940s testosterone started to be broadly utilized as a part of focused games, however the perils
of stacking up on testosterone were not yet clear. In the 1952 Olympics, the Russian weightlifting and

Ch-5 Stress Team Work
During my time working on the CH 47 structures stress team work usually came in waves. There were
only two of us working on the team, but since work had ebbed for the time being my lead felt
comfortable taking a medical leave. This effectively made me take the lead of our group while he was
away. I completed the usual lead rolls, gave updates to our manager and second level manager.
Working to keep tasks on track was both fun and challenging for me, and I liked the responsibility.
Due to the fast paced nature of our program stress often only had time to provide initial sizing and the
part would be released before we had the opportunity to complete a full stress analysis (this wasn t the
best way to design/size parts, but the method worked well most of the time). Since our slow time often
involved catching up on analysis, I was working on the formal documentation for a complex
installation when I realized the designer had made a mistake on the thickness of a critical part. To

requiring more than a numerical change to the stress analysis. This was a tough task for me because as
a young engineering I didn t have the knowledge to guide the designers at times. When needed, I
brought in a stress tech fellow from another group. I worked with each designer individually to make
sure the new design followed the sizing my analysis had set forth. Also, I organized a daily meeting to

The Growing Prevalence Of Cultural Tourism
In determining a business opportunity, two main problems have been identified. The first problem
arises from the growing prevalence of cultural tourism; modern tourists are more concerned with
immersing themselves in the cultural context of their destination than ever before (Richards, 2007).
Travellers are wanting to see more than just the sights there is an emerging desire to meet local
inhabitants and experience what life is like for them (Smith, 2009). The problem that arises from this
is that it can be difficult for travellers to meet locals and experience the culture beyond that which can
be found in the guidebook. Additionally, these kinds of experiences can be expensive and difficult to
organise. The second problem that has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

home parents and retirees. Both of these market segments have access to the resources and means
(including time and motivation) necessary to prepare and share meals with visiting travellers. Clients
can be defined as travellers with the desire to meet locals and experience local culture. This customer
group is captured effectively in two market segment segments: young travellers (aged 18 to 25) and
middle aged (aged 25 to 50) travelling couples. Both of these segments represent individuals who are

Education And Its Influence On American Education
Graduate Education today shows traces of its European ancestors. The influences range from Greece,
Egypt, Italy, Spain, and many others. American education has evolved and manifested throughout the
thousands of years of its existence. We can directly trace the roots back to our European ancestors,
with the education that exists today in America.
Higher education s journey began in Greece in 387 BC by Plato. The only thing offered at this first
educational establishment was an advanced study in philosophy. From this basis, more higher
education facilities began to be erected, from 387 BC to the 17th century .The ancestors of graduate
education were constructed throughout Palestine, Babylonia, Indian, China and Korea. Most systems
either taught religious aspects or philosophy. Like today, many higher education schools are still
religious based, even though they offer numerous amounts of studies, they are still based around
religion studies and incorporate it into every line of study at the university.
Higher education in America today offers many concentrations of study, but each university has a
specific concentration subject that they are known for, such as, liberal arts, education, medical,
engineering, etc. This influence on education did not begin until Medieval times. Medieval
universities had main areas of study at each facility, some offered liberal studies, while others were
focused on music, astronomy, geometry and mathematics. Professional studies included law,

The Colonialism Of Vietnam By The French
The colonialism of Vietnam by the French lasted for approximately six decades. In the late of 1880s,
the French had the control of the Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, commonly known as the French
Indochina (Indochine Francais) (Mason 7). As such, Indochina was able to assume the status of being
the lucrative colonial possessions of the French. It became the French empire, which spanned the
western and northern Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific empires. The French formulated the civilizing
mission as a way of justifying their imperialism in the land. Such mission existed as a form of the
white man burden for the English. The imperialists from France made claims that they had the

Such policy resulted into carving of the nation into three separate provinces, namely the Cochinchina
in the South, Annam on the central coast, and Tonkin in the North. Each of the provinces had a
separate administration since there was no national authority of identity.
Reason for Colonization:
Profit gains acted as the main factor triggering French colonization of Indochina to be in their
presence. The French companies and the colonial officials engaged in the transformation of the
Vietnam subsistence economy to a system that is proto capitalist on the bases of low wages and
exports, increased production, and land ownership (Kolko 7). Thus, the Vietnamese never worked for
their profits, but for the benefit of the colonies of the French.
The French also had a chance of acquiring great tracks of land and reorganization of the same into
plantations. The small landholders had the option of being laborers in the plantations or having to
relocate to other places. In case shortfalls in labor were experienced, the farmers from Vietnam had to
be recruited from other outlying villages (Mason 11). These farmers could even come to work
voluntarily after being promised that they will have higher wages. In other cases, they were
conscripted at gunpoint.
The plantations had cash crops, which were rubber and rice. The French also built mines of taping the
deposits of zinc, tin, and coal,

The Importance Of Rehabilitation Needs In Oncology
Occupational therapy has the ability to potentially limit and reverse cancer related disabilities amongst
oncology patients, yet it remains extraordinarily underused within adult oncology (Pergolotti et al.,
2015). More knowledge is needed regarding functional independence in daily activities of living,
coping with stress, difficulties with employment, and the need for future care by healthcare
professionals after leaving the hospital (Hwang, 2015).
It is known that physical impairments resulting from cancer and the cancer treatment are best
addressed by physical therapists and occupational therapists (Sleight Duker, 2016). With this being

Therefore, it is necessary for rehabilitative services to be in place to allow for optimal occupational
performance after treatment (Movsas et. al., 2003). We suggest that although there have been studies
that recognize the effectiveness of OT interventions with oncology patients, more research is needed
to validate the importance of including OT practitioners within oncology treatment.
Implications for Occupational Therapy Practice
Occupational therapy practitioners have the knowledge and skills for producing the best quality of life
for cancer patients by focusing on their occupational performance issues. Evaluation of a client should
begin with an occupational profile that highlights their strengths and weaknesses and managing
approaches in various occupations within the context of the client s lifestyle. A holistic treatment can
contain a wide range of approaches that can be integrated into the client s plan to improve occupation
based problems. The strategies include energy conservation, coping, and relaxation techniques for
managing pain, fatigue, and difficulty sleeping. Exercise and leisure programs are used to improve
strength and mobility. Cognitive strategies, activity and work adaptation, and assistive technology are
used to optimize performance in activities of daily living (ADL), education, and employment. Support
and volunteer groups can be introduced to prevent social

The Road Not Taken By William Shakespeare
When we travel, we often focus on our destination at a cost of other aspects of the journey is a
statement which can be related to almost any journey whether it be physical, imaginative or emotional.
King Lear is a text (play), written by William Shakespeare, that relates to the statement, as most of the
characters within the play go on their own separate journeys. These journeys result in the severance of
many relationships between characters, such as Edgar and Edmund, and affect the aspects of their
lives that they did not consider. This is similar to The Road Not Taken which is a poem, written by
Robert Frost, that speaks in a metaphorical way to symbolise journey. Within the poem Frost speaks of
the difficulties on choosing which path to take due to their deceiving appearance and nature. Both
these texts portray the statement through a wide array of techniques, such as symbolism, hamartia, and
personification.
King Lear is a text which has parallel narratives, the first following King Lear s family, and the second
following Lord Gloucester s family. The King himself goes on a significant emotional and imaginative
journey, which shapes his identity at the end of the play. Lear s emotional journey starts at the very
start of the play when he asks his daughters to praise and tell him how much they love him. He soon
faces the troubling task of dealing with his two eldest daughter s, Goneril and Regan, betrayal, due to
his own naive desire to receive baseless praise. It

It was believed by the public analysts on Reuters and the New York Times that Bridgestone collected
market power with 800 Pep Boys entities and fabricated light auto service expertise in addendum to
that. Pep Boys and Bridgestone both delineate on their corporate indexes that they are acclimated to
the automotive activities of service, maintenance, and repair. The sale of tires, certain percentages of
automotive repair, and equipment are familiar between Bridgestone and Pep Boys and will be
matriculated among the 3,000 locations, which Hitt, Ireland, and Hoskisson would profess is
operational relatedness. Pep Boys and Bridgestone also display corporate relatedness through the
information from IBIS and Bloomberg. Bloomberg asserted that Bridgestone already operates more
than 2,200 tire and automotive centers across the U.S., and the merger will create the world s largest
chain of its kind (Boyden and Clothier, np). It is stated earlier how IBIS discussed that Pep Boys is
labeled as the only national chain offering automotive services, tires, parts and accessories ( Major

Bridgestone. Basically, Pep Boys and Bridgestone have intense operational relatedness because of a

Stanford Experiment On Conformity
The hypothesis is: if the age group is 12th grade, then the conformity will decrease. By testing
whether or not a group of students will give into peer pressure when given the answer, their
conformity will be given. When the experiment is conducted on the seniors, the test subject will not be
pressured into conforming to the rest of the group. The goal of this experiment is to test the ages of
3rd, 7th, and 12th grade and see whether or not will conform to the majority. Hence the name, The
Hipster Experiment. This experiment was interesting because of learning the behaviors of humans in
uncommon situations and learning how to react to the environment. By achieving this experiment

testing. The 3rd and 7th grades were expected to conform because of the growing mindset. A mindset,
in other words is the established set of attitudes held by someone. By using the word mindset, the idea
of how the minds of 3rd and 7th grade is more easily carried across. The conforming of the 3rd grade

The Invention Of Internet Has Changed Our World
If you were to go back 1960s and tell people how in the future you can talk to people on another
continent in matter of seconds and with little to no cost. That you can even send mail, music, photos
and even videos clips in just matter of seconds to as many people as you want. They will look at you
and will probably think you are insane, but all of these things and even more are possible due to the
internet. Many people uses the internet today, but they don t know how it works, why was it created or
who invented it? Even though everything from our banking, business, shopping, communication,
dating, entertainment, education and the most basic task are done on the internet. However one can
argue that s the best part of the internet we don t need to understand it on technology, social, and
physiological level to use it. However no one can argue that the invention of internet has changed our
world, from how we communicate, to how we work, and to how we live our lives. That the internet
was an evolutionary step not a fad, and it has become a pivotal part of our society which has led to it
to become a necessity and a vital tool for the progression of our race. Before we get into why the
internet was created and how it works, we need talk about the word internet . Often when we talk
about the internet we usually get the World Wide Web and internet mixed up but mix up is
understandable because today s internet has both of these technology intertwined that it has

Frederick Jackson Turner s Frontier Thesis
David Turley History 4120 Dr. Dant Frederick Jackson Turner s Frontier Thesis In 1893, at the 400th
anniversary of the appearance of Columbus in the Americas celebrated in Chicago , Frederick Jackson
Turner presented an academic paper entitled, The Significance of the Frontier in American History In
this essay, Turner proposes that, The existence of an area of free land, its continuous recession, and the
advance of American settlement westward explain American development. The group dynamic that
Turner champions is the farmer. More directly it is white, male farmers. While the expansion of the
west by white male farmers was a factor in the development of America, it is not the only explanation
for this progression. Turner fails to incorporate all of the demographics present during this expansion
which were essential to the evolution of America. The first group Turner fails to credit is women. ...the
only mention of the female sex in the entire essay..., is when Turner states, ...Kit Carson s Mother was
a Boone. While it was a positive thing to say, it didn t f0cus on the woman, but on Kit Carson s
lineage. The part of women in colonization and culture is often seen as insignificant, but they have
always worked alongside the men with equal duty or more, even though the recognition was not equal.
The role of women during western expansion was not purely domestic however as the women would

Ottoman And Italian Charity And Charity
According to Skocpol and Somers, one of the major uses of comparative history is to make
observations about institutions and structures and how they develop in different nations. Now when
one thinks about points of comparison, they probably think about broad categories like religion, the
state, etc., these are all obvious categories for comparative history, a less obvious topic however, is
poor relief and charity. How to deal with the poor (in this case, orphans, those out of work, the sick,
etc.) is an almost universal problem that every state or polity in the early modern Mediterranean had to
address in some form or another. This makes poor relief and charity a prime candidate for comparison.
For example, take the Italian states and the Ottoman Empire. On the surface, you can find vast
differences between the two, Italian city states were Christian and were often individual cities that
were independent of each other; meanwhile the Ottoman Empire was a vast, Muslim state
compromising large amounts of territory. Despite these differences, one can find similarities in regards
to how charity and poor relief were handled.

The Miracle On The Vietnam Analysis
After a long summer of dreaded sequels and long awaited reboots, we find ourselves amidst a biopic
worthy of an Oscar, albeit an Oscar for a leading role, but one nonetheless. Tom Hanks delivers
serious acting at his best, with a stunning cast that surrounds him. Clint Eastwood provides spectacular
directing along with writer Todd Komarnicki who provides a remarkable take of The Miracle on the
Hudson. The story is plain and simple, honestly. Like every other extraordinary act of heroism, Sully
saves every life on the plane by successfully navigating the plane after it was hit by a flock of birds.
Yay! The story is not overly dramatized nor fictionalized. It gives a straight view point of the horrors
the pilot and passengers went through on that fateful day. Which is very refreshing, considering all the
complicated plots of the summer and overly thought out films. It also ... Show more content on

survived. The pivotal moment of the plane crash MADE the film a masterpiece in itself. Sully s PTSD
is also made aware of in the film, which is a wonderful that this subject is brought to more light. He is
constantly weary of what could have happened, instead of the heroic feat he accomplished. Flashbacks
are brought up throughout the film time and time again, so much so it seems relentless, although it
provides more insight into the mind of Sully at times. The film provided a harrowing experience for
viewers, providing a look into what the passengers, pilot, and rescue crews went through during that
unfortunate day. Sully is a worthwhile film and wonderful biopic all in all, despite the mostly one man

Tomato Production Of The Tomato Plant
BIG QUESTION where do tomatoes come from and how can we maximise yield?
Alex Cottam
Tomatoes are edible fruits of Solanum lycopersicum , More commonly known as the tomato plant.
The plant originated in central America. Tomatoes are used in many dishes across the globe but were
first used in mexico. Tomatoes are grown in temperate climates around the world however more hardy
strains have been produced meaning some can survive at lower temperatures however to maximise
yield lower temperatures are not ideal. In cooler areas of the globe they can be grown in greenhouses.
They grow ,depending on the strain, anywhere from one metre tall to 3 metres tall although bush
variates have the maximum yield. Being so tall the plant often cannot support itself as they have weak
stems therefore support is required ie canes, stakes etc.
The tomato plant is a perennial (grows back each year) in its native climate and grown as an annual
(only survives one year then dies from lower temperatures) in temperate climates. In the greenhouse
the plant needs to be kept above 16 degrees celsius and below 32 degrees , otherwise the enzymes will
become denatured. ideally between 22 26 degrees as this will best imitate its native climate.
Temperature is one of the limiting factors of plant growth so is one of the key factors to achieve a high
yield. In order to keep it at these temperatures a greenhouse should be used or they should be planted
in their native climate however a greenhouse is more ideal

Animal Testing Should Not Be Banned
Picture yourself applying your favorite make up or taking medicine prescribed to you by your doctor,
and ask yourself, how do you know it s safe? Have you ever wondered what goes in to make sure that
cosmetics and medicine isn t lethal? A majority of ensuring items such as medicine and cosmetics are
safe to use is done by testing the medicine and cosmetics on a multitude of different kinds of animals
(Abbott 1). Animal testing saved many lives in the past ( Animal , par.7) but as science bred new
methods, much like in vitro, which uses human cells cultivated in a lab, the potential for a replacement
to animal testing arose (Abbott 1). Whether or not one is more effective than the other has been a hot
topic for years, and multiple studies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the animal shows any irritation or damage, it is possible to decide whether or not the chemical is
permissible to use in consumer products. Experiments such as these are performed to test whether or
not items like mascara are safe for humans to use depending on the reaction of the animal (Abbott 1).
Many of these experiments require hundreds of animals to get a clear result (Abbott 1). As animal
testing progressed throughout history, health organizations and industries started the initiation of
alternative tests, which involve a number of different approaches that do not involve animals. Finding
alternatives to testing with animals wasn t a main priority for many, until the European Union initiated
a program called REACH, which stands for Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals
(Abbott 1). This initiative required European countries to document the 30,000+ chemicals that are
used in experiments to measure the safety of cosmetics and medications. Issuing this initiative caused
many agencies to become concerned with how much it would cost to go through all of these animal
tests and document each chemical (Abbott 1). Due to this reason, many began to implement the new
alternatives that were presented to many agencies. These different types of alternatives all stem from
in vitro procedures. In vitro testing uses cells that are cultivated in a lab to form different tissues for
scientists to test. For example, the different

Gapdh Lab Report
Abstract
Affinity purification is a powerful method of isolating a protein of interest from a complex mixture of
proteins. the aim of this experiment was to isolate the enzyme GAPDH from a complex mixture of
proteins, in this case yeast lysate. in order to achieve this, a range of methods were used such as
protein, GAPDH activity and ADH assays, SDS PAGE and imumunodetection of ADH and GAPDH
on western blot. The results showed that the isolation of GAPDH was achieved albeit, extremely with
the % recoveries of the elution being abnormally high due to abnormally low initial material values.
The results suggested overall that isolation GAPDH from yeast lysate using affinity purification is in
fact a somewhat effective method.
Methods
Affinity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was especially high in elution 1 and 2 who had values of 527% and 514% respectively, indicating a
high GAPDH activity especially elution 1. This is supported by the fact that elution 1 had the highest
specific activity with a value of 0.0017 umoles/min/mg. it is however difficult to see in figure 2, with
the number of bands being seemingly lower than there should be.
The SDS PAGE Electrophoresis (figure 1) contained different samples of the yeast lysate. From the
gel the bands are clear and distinct with the YNSMY YNFT having the thickest and most distinct of
columns making the cibracon blue an efficient tool for affinity chromatography. The protein
concentration from YNSM to YNW4 fluctuated with a general decreasing trend however the gel does
not distinctively show this.
Limitations
The % protein recovery from the ADH assay was 556%, which could be due to a dilution error, most
likely that the initial material had abnormally low values. It was expected that elution 3 (YNE3) would
have the lowest activity in GAPDH, from table 2 it is clear that it had the highest specific activity but
the lowest total activity and thus the lowest % protein recovery.
Overall, the results suggest that, this was somewhat of an effective method in isolation the enzyme
GAPDH from yeast

Snowboarding Research Paper
I have been snowboarding since 2005, and since then I have been passionate about the sport. When i
m not snowboarding, I like to watch snowboarding; when i m not watching snowboarding, i m
probably just adding things to my Burton shopping cart and wishing I was a pro so that I could afford
them. Now before I jump into this essay, I will first give you a background on the history of the sport.
The original concept that the snowboard is based upon is the snurfer . Developed on Christmas Day,
1965 by Sherman Poppen in Muskegon, Michigan. In 1968, Tom Sims furthered the sport by
developing the very first snowboard. Then in 1977 Jake Burton Carpenter developed the first bindings
and changed the sport forever.
Why do I like snowboarding? To understand why I like snowboarding, you have to go to the root of
who I am, an adrenaline junky. Going fast is who I am so when I strap my boots into my bindings for
those pre planned speed runs and the jitters set in, I know it s time to shred. Every season I snowboard,
my skills continue to grow and I continually push myself to new limits whether it is hitting bigger
jumps or going balls to the wall and going as fast as possible down the mountain. This seasonal ...

Taking a Look at ANSYS
1. Introduction
1.1 ANSYS
ANSYS is a software package that allows various simulations in a range of different fields and
industries to be modelled and analysed. The main fields within the program include, computational
fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, and electromagnetics to mention a few. The use of this software
allows an individual or business to test various cases of product use, eliminating the outlay cost of
building and testing many prototypes. This saves on time and costs and is a lot faster and more
accurate then computing a hand analysis. In certain circumstances it allows for test cases that would
otherwise not be possible to set up in a lab [1] [2].
1.1.1 Brief History of ANSYS
Modern finite element method may be traced back as early as the 1900 s with the first models being
represented and calculated by means of discrete equivalent elastic bars. The individual that has been
credited with developing the finite element method is R. Courant. He made use of piecewise
polynomial interpolation over triangular sub regions to analyse problems involving torsion [3].
Boeing was the first major company to make use of triangular stress elements to model their airplane
wings during the years from 1950 1962. It was during the 1960 s that the finite element method use
was broadened to other industries including heat transfer. ANSYS was officially released in 1971 [3].

Psychological Harm To begin, in the journal, Bierut et al are informing psychiatrists on the effect of
lower drinking ages on people s mental health because it causes issues. This journal focuses on how in
times of lower drinking ages, women especially are more likely to develop into suicidal or homicidal
beings. With study grants from the National Institutes of Health, they were able to prove, These
researchers said their data suggest that the national MLDA of 21 may be preventing as many as 600
suicides and 600 homicides annually in the United States. Numbers like these prove just how big of a
difference the minimum drinking age can have on people. Not many people take into consideration the
psychological effects of drinking on people. With the MLDA kept at 21, lives are being saved. Hence,
America has not gone back to the lower drinking age since 1984. With that, teen binge drinking has
been on a constant decline since. Italy maintains their lower drinking age and has seen an increase of

How Did The Vietnam War Influence The French Indochina War
Derek Schmidt
College English
Opinion Based Research Essay
The French Indochina War Starting in late 1946, a rebellion began in French Indochina. The French
colony, only recently liberated from Japanese occupation, was eager to assert its independence from
France. However, the French, wishing to retain their colonial empire, had no wish to let this happen.
Backed by the United States who was afraid of the spread of communism in the area, France fought a
brutal war to maintain its position of power over Indochina. Ultimately, just like the Vietnam War that
succeeded it, the French Indochina War was a waste of time, money, and manpower.
French Indochina was a colony of France consisting of the modern day countries of Vietnam, Laos,
and Cambodia. The colony was created after the French occupied several important cities and the
Vietnamese were forced to sign treaties acknowledging the authority of the French over Vietnam.
After gradually establishing suzerainty over Indochina between 1858 and 1893, the French created the
first Indochinese Union to govern it (Indochina). French influence was strongest in the urban centers,
while it had little impact on the far more populous rural areas. French Indochina came under the
occupation of the Japanese during World War II, and the Japanese collaborated closely with the French
colonial administrators and Bảo Đại, the Emperor of Vietnam and a French puppet ruler. Once the war
ended and Japan surrendered, French troops reoccupied

Chinatown are quite similar in various ways. The dam and the condos, had taken a lot of land away.
Both also lost much of their traditions and culture. For example, Abitibi Canyon lost a vast amount of
hunting ground. Hunting is an important tradition in many Aboriginal cultures. For the Chinese, they
lost several stores that had Chinese culture within them. If real estate agents continue expanding, soon
there will be no Chinatown. All symbols in Chinatown will all be gone, such as Dr. Sun Yat Sen

of this trial concluded that using both vitamin E and vitamin C combined can help patients with
NASH by minimizing the damage from oxidative stress, significantly improving fibrosis, and actually
slowing down the process that eventually leads to cirrhosis. When vitamin E is administered along
with vitamin C, the combination of both can actively fight against the oxidative stress in the liver. In
this study, serum alanine aminotransferase levels improved, along with a decrease in serum

Benefit Of Listening To Music
Ever since I began high school, music has been an important part of my life. Every day, on the way to
and from school, I could be seen on the bus relaxing and listening to music. At first, I listened to music
because it seemed like the most convenient way for me to pass time and stay entertained on my ride.
However, as I got older and became more accustomed to my schedule, what I realized was that
listening to music every day had a larger effect on my mental health then I thought. I realized that for
me, listening to music had a meditative effect, and when I would not listen to my music, I would feel
more stressed out and anxious then when I did. Therefore, I was not one bit surprised when I learned
of numerous studies that have proven that listening to music every day is not only a leisure activity,
but has serious effects on the brain that anyone could benefit from. I was able to have a first hand
experience of benefiting from music as a meditative tool, and hope that other students are able to
realize that they should not just be listening to music for leisure, but should be making listening to
music a part of their daily schedule because of the health benefits it has. One benefit of listening to
music on a daily basis as a form of meditation is that music has been proven to reduce stress. This is

s Clinic for a Field Placement and was accepted. Menninger s Clinic contacted me approximately a
week later and asked me to interview at the Gathering Place, a psycho social clubhouse for the
chronically mentally ill. I completed the interview with Hans Meyer the Licensed Clinical Social
Worker at the Gathering Place. A couple of days afterwards I contacted Mr. Meyer and expressed my
concerns about being able to gain the necessary experience needed as an Advance Clinical student.
Mr. Meyer stated that he would look into it since this was something new that Menninger was trying
by assigning an Advanced Student to the clubhouse. Just before summer ended, I again reached out to
Menninger and expressed my concerns but did not receive a reply. I attended orientation on the 1st of
August, where once again I expressed my concerns that my level of clinical experience would not
match that of my fellow classmates who were also assigned to Menninger Clinic. I was asked to give
it a try since this was a new program they were trying out. Their plans were for me to sit in on the
groups at the Gathering Place and then when I felt comfortable to begin facilitating some of the groups
on my own. The groups where

Stereotypical Fairytale And Relative Peace
When a child does something wrong, an older, wiser adult is always there to scold them for the
wrongdoing. Inevitably, they are then forced to accept the punishment and guilt that it bears. However,
when they transform into an adult, they are the old, wise adult, and no one is there to scold them. It
must be found within themselves to discern the sin committed and hold the guilt within their own
hearts, but then also forgive themselves for it, of which it is much easier to do as a child. If
unforgiven, the guilt manifests itself within their being, slowly monopolizing on their lives until they
become a mere shell of their prior beings, scarcely able to survive daily life with the blanket of guilt
weighing down so heavily upon them. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Barely under this facade of composure and innocence, unbeknownst to him, was his rapidly expanding
feeling of dishonor. Not only had he committed an act so unspeakable for the time, but he had also
failed to admit this fault to those who held his holiness above all else. In this way, he felt he had
betrayed the townspeople, of whom he knew their countless sins, and the only person who could ever
truly forgive him: God. As a result of these unforgivable crimes, Dimmesdale subjected himself to a
torture brought about by his own inability to forgive himself for the crimes committed. Only a short
while into his self flagellation, the decaying of his physical well being became apparent to any and all
onlookers, as the text states, he was often observed, on any slight alarm or other sudden accident, to
put his hand over his heart, with first a flush and then a paleness, indicative of pain, (Hawthorne 108).
This quotation exemplifies the obvious change in Dimmesdale s demeanor, while also creating a
connection between mind and body. With such a guilt fueling his need to gain redemption, he turned
to pain as a way to relieve the unshakeable ailment he invariably felt. However, this did not achieve
anything as his mental state further deteriorated and his physical conditions followed suit, to the point
that he was scarcely able to bear his own weight or

The Importance Of Fate In Oedipus At Colonus
A common debate that still rages today is whether we a a species have free will or if some divine
source, some call it fate, controls our destiny. With all the oracles and talk of prophecies, it s obvious
that there is some divine intention in Oedipus. First, in Oedipus at Colonus, there is oracle at Delphi
that tells Oedipus s parents and then himself that he will kill his father and marry his mother. While
free choices, such as Oedipus s decision to pursue knowledge of his identity, are significant, fate is
responsible for Oedipus s incest and many of the other most critical and devastating events of the play.
By elevating the importance of fate, Sophocles suggests that characters cannot be fully responsible for
their actions. It becomes difficult, for example, to blame Oedipus for marrying his mother given his
ignorance. Oedipus is known for being a smart dude. After all, he was the only guy around who could
figure out the riddle of the Sphinx. Unfortunately, for a large portion of his life he also lacks some
significant information. If he d known who his real parents were, he could ve avoided some seriously
unfortunate situations. You have to hand it to Oedipus, though, even when he s beginning to get the
gist of the horrible truth, he doesn t stop searching for it. In the end, you could see Oedipus as
representing all of humanity and our quest to understand the truth of ourselves and our place in the
universe. In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, the character Macbeth most values power because he
was willing to kill his relative and god appointed King Duncan, and his best friend Banquo to obtain
and keep the throne. Macbeth along with Oedipus is surging for power. Though he finds it, Macbeth
also believes he should constantly follow the deadly plot that the twisted witches set out for him. In
Act 1 Macbeth and his trusted friend Banquo cross paths with the witches unknowing that they give
away their future. Third Witch. Thou shalt get kings, though thou be none: So all hail, Macbeth and
Banquo! First Witch. Banquo and Macbeth, all hail! (Macbeth Act 1 Scene 3). At this point Macbeth
has already rewinded the words in his mind over and over again. Dumbstruck, he is set up this large
scale plan to murder his

The Contents Of Act 1
YBAW Act 1 Gi Wook Song
The contents in Act 1 were very helpful for me. Actually, most of them have been heard before, but its
logical and scientific approach made me completely understand the significance of the brain base
theory, and encouraged me to try it. I have changed my lifestyle a lot, after I read this book. In the next
my own lists, I added my understanding and changed the order.
1. Defining actors (tasks). This is not in the book (own list), but the concept is from the book. For
more effective use of my limited brain resources, I have to define my takes that I m facing. They will
be the actors who will get on stage, and some of them will be excluded in that day or for a while if it is
not necessary and urgent. I have so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I spent more than 2 hours for searching it, and still haven t purchased it yet, and delayed many tasks. I
have so many things to finish in this weekend, and it was just a simple decision making. It was urgent,
and it was not so significant money to my life, so it didn t matter whatever I chose. I should have
simplified it and focused on the important things.
3. Group information into chunks whenever you have too much information.
This method is helpful for the next step. Even I finish defining my tasks and simplifying information,
sometimes it is still confusing. After creating chunks for my tasks and grouping them, I can easily set
the priorities. Usually my hunks are; school assignments, projects , school preparation for exams ,
family affairs , church affairs , and financial management .
4. Prioritize prioritizing, as it s an energy intensive activity.
I usually prioritize my tasks with following orders; Import and urgent , urgent but not important ,
important but not urgent , and neither important and urgent . Once I decide the order for
implementation, I try to focus only on the highest priority that I haven t finished.
5. Schedule the most attention rich tasks when you have a fresh and alert mind. Although I m more of
a night owl, I can feel that I have fresher mind in the morning. I usually do the complicate task that
needs a lot of brain working in the morning.

Essay on The Quest for Peace in Siddhartha, by Hermann Hesse
Siddhartha, an allegorical novel written by Hermann Hesse, primarily tells the tale of an Indian man,
Siddhartha, and his quest for peace and totality during the time of the Buddha. The story focuses on
him leaving his family home in India to find this peace and totality, but the theme of this story is not
just about Siddhartha, there is an underlying theme which demonstrates that Siddhartha is not the only
person searching for this peace, and this quest is not solely the theme of the story for Siddhartha, but
for many of the characters, Siddhartha included. Siddhartha s father, the Brahmin, is on his quest to
find peace, the Buddha had already found their peace and Siddhartha is of course also searching for
peace. The theme of the novel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With such a high social status, one would assume that the holy man would be satisfied with his life,
and this would be an incorrect assumption. He may have thought that he was satisfied, but he knew his
life was far from complete, and he was in reality very far from being at peace. He was a very vapid
man, and only did what he thought was making him happy, and at peace. Siddhartha s father could not
even get his son to follow the rituals to become a Hindu scholar like he was. Siddhartha s father would
do ablutions in the river and would constantly offer sacrifices to the gods in his never ending attempts
to find peace and totality for himself. Constantly searching for this totality, a sense that his life was
complete and was for something, Siddhartha s father knew that his life would never be complete, not
without his son. Siddhartha s father can search his whole life, but it will never be enough when his
own son ran away from home. Siddhartha s father was constantly looking for peace and totality, and
was not the only one trying to achieve this goal in the novel. It s quite unfortunate he will never be at
peace, as he never saw his son again. Siddhartha s father may as well be comatose; he will never
achieve true peace and totality until he is with his son, who seeks peace and totality, just like his father
does.
Siddhartha grew up with his friend Govinda. Siddhartha found that he required peace and totality in
his life, and Govinda simply just

The Effects Of Abuse On Nursing Homes
Abuse in nursing homes occurs more than the average person would think. Abuse is a factor that needs
to be addressed as a very serious issue because it can later lead to death. There are various types of
abuse in the world, many of which occur in nursing homes and go unreported. Many injuries cause
patients to have broken bones and death. In addition, patient abuse can lead to having psychological
disorders like anxiety and depression. Staff members tend to cover up abuse in nursing facilities for
many reasons one being them not wanting to lose their jobs. Abuse is also covered up in nursing
facilities due to staff members not wanting to bring attention to their employer. Employees know that
if they report the abusers then the abusers will receive criminal charges; therefore, the employees
avoid reporting events. Patient abuse in nursing facilities is illegal, but happens often, and is covered
up by management and staff. There are many types of abuse that occur in nursing homes, including
verbal, physical, neglect, sexual, isolation, financial, domestic, and social. Actions relating to abuse in
nursing homes seem to grow more and more daily. Many individuals have no clue why staff members
abuse their patients, but others can help by reporting the abuse occurring. During the years of 1999
2001, approximately one third of nursing facilities are known for their abuse violations. Also 10
percent of the nursing facilities have been involved with abuse violations that

What Is The Relationship Between Thoma s And Kiras...
Thomas s and Kira s Friendship Gathering Blue Learning Contract (Number Two) Thomas and Kira
had a Superb friendship from the start in the interest of, if they just hated each other, then they would
get lonely because they were the only ones there until they met Jo. Thomas having been there since he
was really little was probably desperate for a friend. In Fact, he probably caused trouble as a tyke as a
result of him having nothing else to do once he finished a day s worth of work. When Kira came he
was so happy because he finally had someone to talk to. Imagine not having anyone remotely close to
your ge to talk to in years. So at first, I felt that the friendship was kind of forced. I mean, if I was one
of the two people I knew then I would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kira is almost a mother to Jo. Without Thomas, Kira wouldn t of met Jo. I have to say Kira s and Matt
s friendship is anything but sub par and it is the foundation of the early story, Thomas and Kira see
each other much more often. This is the most important and intricate friendship. With Thomas and
Kira they are friends because they had to be. However, they are much better friends in the middle and
end of the story. Thus, I think that this makes it the most important. With Matt, I am led to believe that
Matt only likes Kira because she gives him food. Thomas and Kira are extremely good friends, and
that is not because they were forced to be friends either. They were good friends before, but realizing
that they would be friends anyway, they became much better friends. Considering that they are both
artists they decided that they must work together or be alone. The importance of Thomas is the fact
that in essence, Thomas is almost Kira s Tour Guide/Mentor/Teacher. Without Thomas, when Matt is
not around, all Kira would have for support is a scrap of thread. Thomas is a creative problem solver
just like Kira. Thomas knows how to read and write which Kira tries to figure out own her own.

  • 2. Essay on Benedict Arnold Benedict Arnold The name Benedict Arnold has become a synonym for a traitor to one s country. In the first years of the American Revolution, however, Arnold was a brilliant and dashing general, highly respected for his service to the patriot cause (see Revolution, American). Benedict Arnold was born on Jan. 14, 1741, in Norwich, Conn. His father, Benedict, was a well to do landowner. His mother was Hannah King Waterman Arnold. While a boy, young Arnold twice ran away to join the colonial troops fighting in the French and Indian War. When he was 21 he settled in New Haven. In time he became a prosperous merchant and a captain in the Connecticut militia. He married Margaret Mansfield in 1767. They had three sons. Arnold played a gallant ... After the war he lived with his family in England. He failed to obtain a regular commission in the British army and failed also in several business ventures, including land speculation in Canada. He died in London on June 14, 1801. In the first years of the American Revolution, Arnold was a brilliant and courageous general, highly respected for his service to the patriot cause. Benedict Arnold was born on Jan. 14, 1741, in Norwich, Conn. He was a very daring boy. He once ran on a millwheel with another kid. He was also known to love fireworks and once was caught lighting a jug of gunpowder that would have resulted in a big explosion. When he was a little older (about 17), Arnold twice ran away to join the colonial troops fighting in the French and Indian War. When he was 21 he moved to New Haven. In time he became a prosperous merchant and a captain in the Connecticut militia. He married Margaret Mansfield in 1767. They had three sons. Arnold played a gallant part in the American Revolution and became a major general in 1777. His wife had died in 1775 and early in 1779 he married Margaret Shippen, by whom he had four sons and one daughter. Arnold was not careful with his money and soon found himself hard up for cash. It was because of this that he began his treasonable activities. Most people think ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Change At Green Mountain Resort Change at Green Mountain Resort Green Mountain Resort was a hospitality organization which underwent significant change after its original purpose vanished and the need to become more independent became key to its success (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). Due to the demographics of the county which Green Mountain Resort was located, the resort management faced a challenged concerning human capital (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). The new owner and manager, Gunter, identified human capital turnover as a problem, the hospitality industry claimed turnover as a chronic problem, and a newly hire consultant brought up an entirely new perspective to the so called turnover problem (Palmer, Dunford Akin, 2009). We ll first review Gunter s perspective and approach. Initially, Gunter s image of change outcome was that of a controlling director. He identified a potential problem area (turnover) and assumed through intended control, change could be achievable (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). After further analysis, Gunter also identified limitations from outside factors, such as available human capital resources making him somewhat of a navigator with only partially intended outcome. As a director, Gunter intended to simply fix the turnover problem. As a navigator, he recognized the outside factors. This led him to seek further analysis through further industry research (Palmer, Dunford, Akin, 2009). Hospitality industry research indicated turnover was a chronic problem ... • 4. Cyber Surveillance And Intrusion Detection System Essay Abstract In this era of technology, everything is available at just one click; Security is a big issue when we talk about networks. Hackers and intruders are getting smarter. There are various methods to secure the network infrastructure and communication over the Internet, for example firewalls, encryption, and virtual private networks. Intrusion detection is a relatively new approach to such techniques. By using intrusion detection, we can collect and use information from known types of attacks and find out if someone is trying to attack the network/host. Keywords: intrusion detection system I. Introduction Intrusions are the activities that violate the security policy of system. Intruders may be from outside the network or legitimate users of the network. Intrusion can be a physical, system or remote intrusion. Intrusion Detection is the process used to identify intrusions i.e. a piece of software that monitors a computer system or network resources to detect malicious activities unauthorized attempts to use the system or abuse of existing privileges in a network or on a host system. It identifies and stops attacks in progress and conducts forensic analysis once attack is over. It detects intrusions and attacks that were not stopped by preventative techniques (firewalls, packet filtering routers, proxy servers. • 9. Describe Your Happy Place Where is your happy place? I grew up on the mid north coast of NSW in a small town called Valla Beach which was nestled between the bush and the beach. Because it was such a small town in which most people knew each other, I was granted relative freedom to roam the native environment and explore. I have very fond memories of riding my scooter up and down the streets with my friends and neighbours, cantering through the bush in front of my house, making up stories about my life if I had lived there and spending all day on the beach, crisping in the sun. Being inside seemed like such a dull affair when you could be immersed in a different world, a natural world. I feel as if these early life experiences led me to always have a special connection with the natural environment as it was the one true place that I could seek comfort and clarity my happy place. Across the road from my house was extensive bushland that stretched a few kilometres until it was cut off by the highway. In many ways, it was my childhood playground. There was a small dam in the bushland that I often took my dog to play fetch and cool off. There was a bush track that winded up and down hills and ended in a small little clearing and there was also dirt bike tracks that a local boy had made from scrap materials. When I was 12, a housing development crew came to town and begun marking out the land to demolish to build new estates and within weeks they were underway. They began draining the dam to make way ... • 10. Post Secondary Public School Systems Applying this reactionary philosophy of organizational change to post secondary public school systems is the exact jumpstart that this environment truly needs. Indeed, this particular approach is especially applicable to post secondary public school systems because it places a strong focus on the change aspect of organizational change, taking steps to improve with every failure. This is useful because this environment is one of live and learn. That is, post secondary public school systems oftentimes rely on management theories that must be tweaked and changed as weaknesses or flaws emerge in them. On the other hand, this particular organizational change theory would essentially anticipate these failures, and pre construct varying concepts and theories around these failures, essentially preparing for them before they even occur (Weick Quinn, 1999). Essentially, as research into what, exactly, constitutes organizational change continues to advance, so, too, will the possibilities within post secondary public school systems. Yet, on a more specific note, four key theories have emerged that can be directly applied to post secondary public school systems. The first of these are life cycle theories, which possess an event sequence of start up, grow, harvest, terminate, and start up, with a generative mechanism of immanent program or regulation (Weick Quinn, 1999). This organizational change sub theory is important because it sets things up in a cyclical fashion, allowing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There were only two of us working on the team, but since work had ebbed for the time being my lead felt comfortable taking a medical leave. This effectively made me take the lead of our group while he was away. I completed the usual lead rolls, gave updates to our manager and second level manager. Working to keep tasks on track was both fun and challenging for me, and I liked the responsibility. Due to the fast paced nature of our program stress often only had time to provide initial sizing and the part would be released before we had the opportunity to complete a full stress analysis (this wasn t the best way to design/size parts, but the method worked well most of the time). The first problem arises from the growing prevalence of cultural tourism; modern tourists are more concerned with immersing themselves in the cultural context of their destination than ever before (Richards, 2007). Travellers are wanting to see more than just the sights there is an emerging desire to meet local inhabitants and experience what life is like for them (Smith, 2009). American education has evolved and manifested throughout the thousands of years of its existence. We can directly trace the roots back to our European ancestors, with the education that exists today in America. Higher education s journey began in Greece in 387 BC by Plato. The only thing offered at this first educational establishment was an advanced study in philosophy. From this basis, more higher education facilities began to be erected, from 387 BC to the 17th century .The ancestors of graduate education were constructed throughout Palestine, Babylonia, Indian, China and Korea. Most systems either taught religious aspects or philosophy. Like today, many higher education schools are still religious based, even though they offer numerous amounts of studies, they are still based around religion studies and incorporate it into every line of study at the university. Higher education in America today offers many concentrations of study, but each university has a specific concentration subject that they are known for, such as, liberal arts, education, medical, engineering, etc. This influence on education did not begin until Medieval times. Medieval universities had main areas of study at each facility, some offered liberal studies, while others were focused on music, astronomy, geometry and mathematics. In the late of 1880s, the French had the control of the Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, commonly known as the French Indochina (Indochine Francais) (Mason 7). As such, Indochina was able to assume the status of being the lucrative colonial possessions of the French. It became the French empire, which spanned the western and northern Africa, the Caribbean and Pacific empires. Reason for Colonization: Profit gains acted as the main factor triggering French colonization of Indochina to be in their presence. The French companies and the colonial officials engaged in the transformation of the Vietnam subsistence economy to a system that is proto capitalist on the bases of low wages and exports, increased production, and land ownership (Kolko 7). Thus, the Vietnamese never worked for their profits, but for the benefit of the colonies of the French. The French also had a chance of acquiring great tracks of land and reorganization of the same into plantations. The small landholders had the option of being laborers in the plantations or having to relocate to other places. In case shortfalls in labor were experienced, the farmers from Vietnam had to be recruited from other outlying villages (Mason 11). Joel replied I need to get a message to my family because I have some stuff buried in the ground where we would go and spent hours gazing at the stars. • 19. The Road Not Taken By William Shakespeare When we travel, we often focus on our destination at a cost of other aspects of the journey is a statement which can be related to almost any journey whether it be physical, imaginative or emotional. King Lear is a text (play), written by William Shakespeare, that relates to the statement, as most of the characters within the play go on their own separate journeys. These journeys result in the severance of many relationships between characters, such as Edgar and Edmund, and affect the aspects of their lives that they did not consider. This is similar to The Road Not Taken which is a poem, written by Robert Frost, that speaks in a metaphorical way to symbolise journey. Within the poem Frost speaks of the difficulties on choosing which path to take due to their deceiving appearance and nature. Both these texts portray the statement through a wide array of techniques, such as symbolism, hamartia, and personification. King Lear is a text which has parallel narratives, the first following King Lear s family, and the second following Lord Gloucester s family. The King himself goes on a significant emotional and imaginative journey, which shapes his identity at the end of the play. Lear s emotional journey starts at the very start of the play when he asks his daughters to praise and tell him how much they love him. He soon faces the troubling task of dealing with his two eldest daughter s, Goneril and Regan, betrayal, due to his own naive desire to receive baseless praise. It ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was believed by the public analysts on Reuters and the New York Times that Bridgestone collected market power with 800 Pep Boys entities and fabricated light auto service expertise in addendum to that. Pep Boys and Bridgestone both delineate on their corporate indexes that they are acclimated to the automotive activities of service, maintenance, and repair. The sale of tires, certain percentages of automotive repair, and equipment are familiar between Bridgestone and Pep Boys and will be matriculated among the 3,000 locations, which Hitt, Ireland, and Hoskisson would profess is operational relatedness. Pep Boys and Bridgestone also display corporate relatedness through the information from IBIS and Bloomberg. Bloomberg asserted that Bridgestone already operates more than 2,200 tire and automotive centers across the U.S., and the merger will create the world s largest chain of its kind (Boyden and Clothier, np). It is stated earlier how IBIS discussed that Pep Boys is labeled as the only national chain offering automotive services, tires, parts and accessories ( Major Companies, np). The group dynamic that Turner champions is the farmer. More directly it is white, male farmers. While the expansion of the west by white male farmers was a factor in the development of America, it is not the only explanation for this progression. Ottoman And Italian Charity And Charity According to Skocpol and Somers, one of the major uses of comparative history is to make observations about institutions and structures and how they develop in different nations. Now when one thinks about points of comparison, they probably think about broad categories like religion, the state, etc., these are all obvious categories for comparative history, a less obvious topic however, is poor relief and charity. How to deal with the poor (in this case, orphans, those out of work, the sick, etc.) is an almost universal problem that every state or polity in the early modern Mediterranean had to address in some form or another. This makes poor relief and charity a prime candidate for comparison. For example, take the Italian states and the Ottoman Empire. On the surface, you can find vast differences between the two, Italian city states were Christian and were often individual cities that were independent of each other; meanwhile the Ottoman Empire was a vast, Muslim state compromising large amounts of territory. Despite these differences, one can find similarities in regards to how charity and poor relief were handled. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Miracle On The Vietnam Analysis After a long summer of dreaded sequels and long awaited reboots, we find ourselves amidst a biopic worthy of an Oscar, albeit an Oscar for a leading role, but one nonetheless. Clint Eastwood provides spectacular directing along with writer Todd Komarnicki who provides a remarkable take of The Miracle on the Hudson. The story is plain and simple, honestly. Like every other extraordinary act of heroism, Sully saves every life on the plane by successfully navigating the plane after it was hit by a flock of birds. Yay! • 27. Tomato Production Of The Tomato Plant BIG QUESTION where do tomatoes come from and how can we maximise yield? Alex Cottam Tomatoes are edible fruits of Solanum lycopersicum , More commonly known as the tomato plant. The plant originated in central America. Tomatoes are used in many dishes across the globe but were first used in mexico. Tomatoes are grown in temperate climates around the world however more hardy strains have been produced meaning some can survive at lower temperatures however to maximise yield lower temperatures are not ideal. In cooler areas of the globe they can be grown in greenhouses. They grow ,depending on the strain, anywhere from one metre tall to 3 metres tall although bush variates have the maximum yield. Being so tall the plant often cannot support itself as they have weak stems therefore support is required ie canes, stakes etc. The tomato plant is a perennial (grows back each year) in its native climate and grown as an annual (only survives one year then dies from lower temperatures) in temperate climates. In the greenhouse the plant needs to be kept above 16 degrees celsius and below 32 degrees , otherwise the enzymes will become denatured. ideally between 22 26 degrees as this will best imitate its native climate. Temperature is one of the limiting factors of plant growth so is one of the key factors to achieve a high yield. In order to keep it at these temperatures a greenhouse should be used or they should be planted in their native climate however a greenhouse is more ideal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Have you ever wondered what goes in to make sure that cosmetics and medicine isn t lethal? Animal testing saved many lives in the past ( Animal , par.7) but as science bred new methods, much like in vitro, which uses human cells cultivated in a lab, the potential for a replacement to animal testing arose (Abbott 1). If the animal shows any irritation or damage, it is possible to decide whether or not the chemical is permissible to use in consumer products. Experiments such as these are performed to test whether or not items like mascara are safe for humans to use depending on the reaction of the animal (Abbott 1). Many of these experiments require hundreds of animals to get a clear result (Abbott 1). As animal testing progressed throughout history, health organizations and industries started the initiation of alternative tests, which involve a number of different approaches that do not involve animals. Finding alternatives to testing with animals wasn t a main priority for many, until the European Union initiated a program called REACH, which stands for Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals (Abbott 1). This initiative required European countries to document the 30,000+ chemicals that are used in experiments to measure the safety of cosmetics and medications. Issuing this initiative caused many agencies to become concerned with how much it would cost to go through all of these animal tests and document each chemical (Abbott 1). Due to this reason, many began to implement the new alternatives that were presented to many agencies. These different types of alternatives all stem from in vitro procedures. Gapdh Lab Report Abstract Affinity purification is a powerful method of isolating a protein of interest from a complex mixture of proteins. the aim of this experiment was to isolate the enzyme GAPDH from a complex mixture of proteins, in this case yeast lysate. in order to achieve this, a range of methods were used such as protein, GAPDH activity and ADH assays, SDS PAGE and imumunodetection of ADH and GAPDH on western blot. The results showed that the isolation of GAPDH was achieved albeit, extremely with the % recoveries of the elution being abnormally high due to abnormally low initial material values. It was especially high in elution 1 and 2 who had values of 527% and 514% respectively, indicating a high GAPDH activity especially elution 1. The SDS PAGE Electrophoresis (figure 1) contained different samples of the yeast lysate. The protein concentration from YNSM to YNW4 fluctuated with a general decreasing trend however the gel does not distinctively show this. Limitations The % protein recovery from the ADH assay was 556%, which could be due to a dilution error, most likely that the initial material had abnormally low values. It was expected that elution 3 (YNE3) would have the lowest activity in GAPDH, from table 2 it is clear that it had the highest specific activity but the lowest total activity and thus the lowest % protein recovery. The main fields within the program include, computational fluid dynamics, structural mechanics, and electromagnetics to mention a few. The use of this software allows an individual or business to test various cases of product use, eliminating the outlay cost of building and testing many prototypes. This saves on time and costs and is a lot faster and more accurate then computing a hand analysis. In certain circumstances it allows for test cases that would otherwise not be possible to set up in a lab [1] [2]. 1.1.1 Brief History of ANSYS Modern finite element method may be traced back as early as the 1900 s with the first models being represented and calculated by means of discrete equivalent elastic bars. The individual that has been credited with developing the finite element method is R. Courant. • 36. How Did The Vietnam War Influence The French Indochina War Derek Schmidt College English Opinion Based Research Essay The French Indochina War Starting in late 1946, a rebellion began in French Indochina. The French colony, only recently liberated from Japanese occupation, was eager to assert its independence from France. However, the French, wishing to retain their colonial empire, had no wish to let this happen. Backed by the United States who was afraid of the spread of communism in the area, France fought a brutal war to maintain its position of power over Indochina. Ultimately, just like the Vietnam War that succeeded it, the French Indochina War was a waste of time, money, and manpower. French Indochina was a colony of France consisting of the modern day countries of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. The colony was created after the French occupied several important cities and the Vietnamese were forced to sign treaties acknowledging the authority of the French over Vietnam. After gradually establishing suzerainty over Indochina between 1858 and 1893, the French created the first Indochinese Union to govern it (Indochina). French influence was strongest in the urban centers, while it had little impact on the far more populous rural areas. When vitamin E is administered along with vitamin C, the combination of both can actively fight against the oxidative stress in the liver. In this study, serum alanine aminotransferase levels improved, along with a decrease in serum thioredoxin, high sensitivity C reactive protein, and 8 hydroxydeoxyguanosine levels. The results on this trial were slightly different than the second trial discussed. In this trial, significant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Benefit Of Listening To Music Ever since I began high school, music has been an important part of my life. Every day, on the way to and from school, I could be seen on the bus relaxing and listening to music. At first, I listened to music because it seemed like the most convenient way for me to pass time and stay entertained on my ride. However, as I got older and became more accustomed to my schedule, what I realized was that listening to music every day had a larger effect on my mental health then I thought. I realized that for me, listening to music had a meditative effect, and when I would not listen to my music, I would feel more stressed out and anxious then when I did. Therefore, I was not one bit surprised when I learned of numerous studies that have proven that listening to music every day is not only a leisure activity, but has serious effects on the brain that anyone could benefit from. I was able to have a first hand experience of benefiting from music as a meditative tool, and hope that other students are able to realize that they should not just be listening to music for leisure, but should be making listening to music a part of their daily schedule because of the health benefits it has. One benefit of listening to music on a daily basis as a form of meditation is that music has been proven to reduce stress. This is incredibly value for college students, as according to the American College Health Association (ACHA) 2017 National College Health Assessment survey, 33.7% of college students ... This shows that Mike Trout can be compared to many players in the hall of fame, such as Jackie Robinson, Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Pete Rose and many more. Jackie Robinson, Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb had better batting averages then him but not by much, though he has a better batting average than Pete Rose. • 41. Termination Of Field Practicum At Menninger s Clinic Essay Written Statement from Leander Burgess Regarding Termination of Field Practicum at Menninger s Clinic I, Leander Burgess, am an Advanced Standing Social Work Student at the University of Houston, Graduate College of Social Work. During the summer of 2016 I interviewed with Menninger s Clinic for a Field Placement and was accepted. Menninger s Clinic contacted me approximately a week later and asked me to interview at the Gathering Place, a psycho social clubhouse for the chronically mentally ill. I completed the interview with Hans Meyer the Licensed Clinical Social Worker at the Gathering Place. A couple of days afterwards I contacted Mr. Meyer and expressed my concerns about being able to gain the necessary experience needed as an Advance Clinical student. Mr. Meyer stated that he would look into it since this was something new that Menninger was trying by assigning an Advanced Student to the clubhouse. Just before summer ended, I again reached out to Menninger and expressed my concerns but did not receive a reply. I attended orientation on the 1st of August, where once again I expressed my concerns that my level of clinical experience would not match that of my fellow classmates who were also assigned to Menninger Clinic. I was asked to give it a try since this was a new program they were trying out. Their plans were for me to sit in on the groups at the Gathering Place and then when I felt comfortable to begin facilitating some of the groups on my own. The groups where ... • 42. Stereotypical Fairytale And Relative Peace When a child does something wrong, an older, wiser adult is always there to scold them for the wrongdoing. Inevitably, they are then forced to accept the punishment and guilt that it bears. However, when they transform into an adult, they are the old, wise adult, and no one is there to scold them. It must be found within themselves to discern the sin committed and hold the guilt within their own hearts, but then also forgive themselves for it, of which it is much easier to do as a child. If unforgiven, the guilt manifests itself within their being, slowly monopolizing on their lives until they become a mere shell of their prior beings, scarcely able to survive daily life with the blanket of guilt weighing down so heavily upon them. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Barely under this facade of composure and innocence, unbeknownst to him, was his rapidly expanding feeling of dishonor. Not only had he committed an act so unspeakable for the time, but he had also failed to admit this fault to those who held his holiness above all else. In this way, he felt he had betrayed the townspeople, of whom he knew their countless sins, and the only person who could ever truly forgive him: God. As a result of these unforgivable crimes, Dimmesdale subjected himself to a torture brought about by his own inability to forgive himself for the crimes committed. Only a short while into his self flagellation, the decaying of his physical well being became apparent to any and all onlookers, as the text states, he was often observed, on any slight alarm or other sudden accident, to put his hand over his heart, with first a flush and then a paleness, indicative of pain, (Hawthorne 108). This quotation exemplifies the obvious change in Dimmesdale s demeanor, while also creating a connection between mind and body. With such a guilt fueling his need to gain redemption, he turned to pain as a way to relieve the unshakeable ailment he invariably felt. However, this did not achieve anything as his mental state further deteriorated and his physical conditions followed suit, to the point that he was scarcely able to bear his own weight or ... • 43. The Importance Of Fate In Oedipus At Colonus A common debate that still rages today is whether we a a species have free will or if some divine source, some call it fate, controls our destiny. With all the oracles and talk of prophecies, it s obvious that there is some divine intention in Oedipus. First, in Oedipus at Colonus, there is oracle at Delphi that tells Oedipus s parents and then himself that he will kill his father and marry his mother. While free choices, such as Oedipus s decision to pursue knowledge of his identity, are significant, fate is responsible for Oedipus s incest and many of the other most critical and devastating events of the play. By elevating the importance of fate, Sophocles suggests that characters cannot be fully responsible for their actions. It becomes difficult, for example, to blame Oedipus for marrying his mother given his ignorance. Oedipus is known for being a smart dude. After all, he was the only guy around who could figure out the riddle of the Sphinx. Unfortunately, for a large portion of his life he also lacks some significant information. If he d known who his real parents were, he could ve avoided some seriously unfortunate situations. You have to hand it to Oedipus, though, even when he s beginning to get the gist of the horrible truth, he doesn t stop searching for it. In the end, you could see Oedipus as representing all of humanity and our quest to understand the truth of ourselves and our place in the universe. In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, the character Macbeth most values power because he was willing to kill his relative and god appointed King Duncan, and his best friend Banquo to obtain and keep the throne. Macbeth along with Oedipus is surging for power. Though he finds it, Macbeth also believes he should constantly follow the deadly plot that the twisted witches set out for him. In Act 1 Macbeth and his trusted friend Banquo cross paths with the witches unknowing that they give away their future. Third Witch. Thou shalt get kings, though thou be none: So all hail, Macbeth and Banquo! First Witch. Banquo and Macbeth, all hail! (Macbeth Act 1 Scene 3). Essay on The Quest for Peace in Siddhartha, by Hermann Hesse Siddhartha, an allegorical novel written by Hermann Hesse, primarily tells the tale of an Indian man, Siddhartha, and his quest for peace and totality during the time of the Buddha. The story focuses on him leaving his family home in India to find this peace and totality, but the theme of this story is not just about Siddhartha, there is an underlying theme which demonstrates that Siddhartha is not the only person searching for this peace, and this quest is not solely the theme of the story for Siddhartha, but for many of the characters, Siddhartha included. He may have thought that he was satisfied, but he knew his life was far from complete, and he was in reality very far from being at peace. He was a very vapid man, and only did what he thought was making him happy, and at peace. Siddhartha s father could not even get his son to follow the rituals to become a Hindu scholar like he was. Siddhartha s father would do ablutions in the river and would constantly offer sacrifices to the gods in his never ending attempts to find peace and totality for himself. Constantly searching for this totality, a sense that his life was complete and was for something, Siddhartha s father knew that his life would never be complete, not without his son. Siddhartha s father can search his whole life, but it will never be enough when his own son ran away from home. Siddhartha s father was constantly looking for peace and totality, and was not the only one trying to achieve this goal in the novel. It s quite unfortunate he will never be at peace, as he never saw his son again. Siddhartha s father may as well be comatose; he will never achieve true peace and totality until he is with his son, who seeks peace and totality, just like his father does.
