Defining Freedom in Eric Foner s The Story of American...
In Eric Foner s book, The Story of American Freedom, he writes a historical monograph about how
liberty came to be. In the book, his argument does not focus on one fixed definition of freedom like
others are tempted to do. Unlike others, Foner describes liberty as an ever changing entity; its
definition is fluid and does not change in a linear progress. While others portray liberty as a pre
determined concept and gradually getting better, Foner argues the very history of liberty is constantly
reshaping the definition of liberty, itself. Essentially, the multiple and conflicting views on liberty has
always been a terrain of conflict and has changed in time (Foner xv).
Foner focuses, specifically, on how the definition of liberty has been ... Show more content on

The redefinition of property not only affected the very meaning of freedom but also those entitled to
enjoy it. Because economic resources, like civil rights, possessions, and land, is easily accessible, the
limitations for men expanded. Nonetheless, the qualifications were still the same and in order to vote
one had to be white, male, and own property. As civil rights were being expanded, it also played a role
in the meaning of religious freedom. Because government were not allowed to interfere in personal
matters, religious decisions were free from governmental interference. During the 18th century, the
meaning of freedom has changed in so many ways.
In Chapter three, we can also continue to this change. Social conditions such as the three process that
occurred during the revolution also affected the meaning of freedom. The first was territorial
expansion, Manifest Destiny being the underlying idea behind it, and moving westward to acquire
more land meant more property could be own. It also reinforced the promise of economic opportunity
given that with more land one was able to own a farm and participate in the market revolution. And
with the revolution reaching its highest point, property owning qualifications for voting was
eliminated and political democracy, the second process, mean not ownership of property, but
ownership of one s self (Foner 52). Voting was still the very meaning of freedom. However, voting
was not the only definition of freedom

Facts About Dementia
Facts About Dementia In 2013, there were nearly 45 million people 65 or older. The number will
continue to rise as advances in the medical field continue. As a result, it s important to understand an
important condition that faces many in this population, dementia. Understanding dementia will
ultimately help people determine whether they should consider a memory care or live in an assisted
living facility in Virginia Beach. The odds are most people will live well into their 70s, so it makes
sense to understand how dementia will ultimately affect a person s decision to live where. Of course,
these decisions won t be made by the individual. More than likely, a family member providing care
will ultimately make the decisions, but planning in advance

Who Is Stacy In Ribbons
Stacy is the main character in Ribbons . At one point, you probably could have related to this
character. In the story Ribbons everything that happens to Stacy, ties to ballet, her most favorite thing
to do. Stacy has a lot of strengths, but like everybody else she as some weaknesses or flaws in her life.
One of her strengths is that she is a good ballerina, who wants to learn more ballet. She knows she is
good at ballet because, Madame Oblomov put her in a higher division for her age at the academy. She
is also very committed to whatever she does. For example, she still practices ballet, even though she
had to quit because her parents had to save money for her Grandmother s flight to their home in San
Francisco. Her parents couldn t afford ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, she practiced how she was going to welcome her grandmother into their home in the
proper Chinese way. Another one is that she is forgiving when she comes to understand why her
grandmother was so sensitive about the ribbons and her reasons for taking them away from her. Along
with her good side, Stacey has some negative inputs in her life too. One of Stacy s weaknesses is that
she gets jealous easily when she doesn t get attention from her grandmother. For instance, she
complains that Ian gets all of grandmother s attention, since back in China boys are everything . Stacy
also gets jealous, when she realizes how much Ian and her grandmother have in common. Another
weakness Stacy has is that she is curious about everything. She is curious, when her grandmother
walked oddly with her feet, when her mother took the ribbons from her saying that it had to do
something with grandmother s past, and when she looked at grandmother s feet in the shower. Another
flaw, she is, that she is rude and argumentative, when yelling and talking back to her grandmother
about their reasons to like and dislike the ribbons in the

Native American Art Research Paper
Many people collect Native American art today. To what factors do you attribute this popularity?
On the great plains of North America, heroes were born and legends were created. The Native
American tribes left an indelible mark on world history and continue to be a source of inspiration,
guidance, and reverence in today s world. One of the most important ways which the values and
wisdom of Native American tribes convey their message is through art.
Today, interest in studying and collecting Native American art is steadily rising. In response to the
demand for knowledge about the subject, a new website, native american art.org, has risen to the
forefront for providing facts and resources for anybody interested in expanding their knowledge ...

Native American art history expressed in jewelry, quillwork, beading, and creation of items for
everyday living are replete in symbolism incorporating precious and semi precious stones.
Every piece of work created by these incredible people indicated workmanship, pride, and cultural
spirit. Native American Art History is a contribution to American History not as an aside, but a focal
point in the development of the country in its infancy. Native American art history combines the
cultural intricacy of belief systems and practicality of objects designed for everyday use.
Native American Art History suggests the indigenous tribal peoples did not experiment with various
art forms until the advent of the colonial presence . It was through the social and cultural interaction
with Europeans that the tribal peoples were exposed to materials that were different from those
common to their understanding, such as beads.
Soon American Indian peoples mastered the art of beadwork and produced breathtaking artwork.
Highly complex beadwork was created by tribes according to practical appeal, beauty, and cultural
statement. Native American art history can be found at every place in America, each with its unique

The Industrial Revolution was a great time of growth in...
The Industrial Revolution was a great time of growth in the United States. During this time in North
America the eastern side of the United States is becoming overcrowded and people begin to set off in
search for new land and a fresh start. Several factor contributed to both the rise and fall of railroads in
the United States from the spread of westward expansion, to farmers need to stay connected to the rest
of the nation, and to the start of railroad regulations agencies.
In the 19th century the eastern part of North America began to become overcrowded with immigrants
as well as from natural growth. This marked the time in America s history for westward expansion and

These farmers rely heavily on railroads to transport their crops from the frontier to be sold. Everything
depended on the railroads without them many farmers would not get the tools they needed to provide
for their families and the nation would have been disconnected. This gave the railroad companies total
control of the nation s wealth and also power. They controlled everything from the price they shipped
items at to which town they built stations at. They would even make cities bid or get special favors to
the company that built stations at the town, near the town, or even just around them. As depicted in the
American Frankenstein by Frank Bellew railroad companies became monsters they corrupted
government officials, they bribed, and they even rigged elections for their good. It seemed like there
was no way to stop these monsters from taking control of the wealth of the nation as well as the
power. With no regulations to stop them it seems as if there was no end in sight.
Farmers begin getting restless of the railroad monopolies; they demand the government to take action.
The farmers wear in dire straits being charged exorbitant fees to ship the goods was that in turn meant
little profit going towards their families. They had no choice but to pay these fees because they had no
other way to transport their goods due to where they lived. The first attempt to take down the monsters

Inventions And Inventions Of The United States
Imagine a time when the only way to get around was by riding a horse, or a time when the only way to
get in contact with someone was sending a letter, or a time when the only way to dig a hole was using
a shovel, during the mid 19th century young innovators, Alfred Nobel, Samuel Morse, and Thomas
Edison developed machines that made doing all that easier. Inventions and innovations like dynamite,
the railroads, and the telegraph helped the United States economy grow. Scientist developed, a railroad
that connected New York City to San Francisco, a telegraph that could send messages across long
distances within minutes, and dynamite which could blow up anything along its path. The United
States had a small, weak, economy, until the mid 1800s when inventions and innovations united and
strengthened the economy.
From the beginning of time, people have invented things and innovated to help expand their economy.
Gunpowder, the printing press, language, the wheel, pottery, post offices, and man made bridges are
all examples of inventions that led to economic growth. In 1800 prior to railroads, the only practical
way to travel and trade across long distances was along the nation s natural waterways (Metzner 1).
People could not work too far from home, travel , or even visit family that lived far away. Even
communication was a challenge, before the telegraph, telephone, typewriter, and phonograph,
spreading news throughout the world, or simply sending a family mail could take days or

the advent of social media. Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, and others have global connections to the
external world. The readiness of I pads, laptops and smart phones has provided both the individual and
organizations alike to have instantaneous engagement to a broad and large audience over one or all of
the social media networks. The relationship between the employee and the organization can be tested

Information Technology (IT) increases productivities, enables many capabilities to businesses such as

achieved by product line (menu options) extension or by entering international market outside the

opportunity to get additional market and growth by adapting rapidly to changing market and customer

Essay about Good Will Hunting Character Analysis
Introduction Social Cognitive theory believes that humans are individuals who are capable of
proactively making things happen to assist in their own development (Parajes, 2002). In Good Will
Hunting, Will Hunting did not believe that he was able to make a positive change in his life. Will is a
prodigy, particularly in mathematics, who did not recognize his gift. He was born and raised in the
slums, where he is now comfortable. He was abandoned by his parents and in and out of numerous
foster homes. He experienced abuse and neglect in these homes. He was not only physically abused
but also mentally and psychologically. His ability to solve complicated mathematical equations caught

Will sees himself as a southie , a loser. To maintain congruence between his self view and his
experiences his acts out. He starts fights and stays in trouble. He doesn t seek anything better for
himself. In Rogers theory an individual strives for self actualization. Will is brilliant and has
knowledge about many topics. He reads a lot to keep himself knowledgeable. He answers difficult
math problems that are put on a board at MIT, where he works as a janitor. In trying to maintain
congruence between his self view and his experiences he does not trust anyone. When someone tries
to get close and help him he denies needing help. Will is defensive towards everyone he comes in
contact with. He experiences incongruence with his cockiness of being smarter than most but he doesn
t feel he deserves better than living as a nobody. Will s ability to push all his therapists and his
girlfriend away shows his defensiveness. He keeps this tough boy attitude to make others not want to
care about him because no one ever has. Rogers pathology includes defensive maintenance of self
(Pervin et al., 2005). Will s therapist was concerned about Will and took an active role in
understanding the experiences of the client (Pervin et al, p. 198, 2005). This therapy is called Client
Centered Therapy. The therapist doesn t try to change Will but accepts him as he is. Will eventually
changes by embracing his new found relationship with his girlfriend and realizes his potential.

Abstract: In this experiment we were provided a cereal box spectrometer to observe the emission lines
of noble gases and hydrogen. Based on the scale readings on the spectrometer and the Balmer Rydberg
formula, their wavelengths and percent error were able to be extrapolated. Based on the literature
values, the cereal box spectrometer proved its value as a decently accurate spectrometer.

reading and colors were then recorded on table 1.1 which can be found below. These values where
then put into an excel spreadsheet and graph was formed (table 1.2). An equation was then
extrapolated from the data that would give the experimental wavelength (expt λ) values that will be
used for later values. The trend line for table 1.2 was established to see the relationship between
wavelength and scale readings.

The Search for Truth in Anton Chekhov s The Cherry...
The scholar is engaged in the interminable quest for truth. The knowledge that one can never
understand everything makes a person wise. Ignorance is the assumption that one can understand all
about the world around them. An ignorant person is so confident they comprehend the truth, that they
are blind to the greater truth. Anton Chekhov and Sophocles deal with the idea of this sinful pride that
leads to ignorance in their respective works, The Cherry Orchard and Oedipus Rex. In each drama,
certain characters are slapped in the face with the truth; the light is revealed. However, these
characters make the connection when it is too late. Their destruction is already destined to become a
reality, a horrid fate that could have been prevented. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The timing of the chorus plea as Oedipus enters the stage clearly demonstrates that Oedipus is the man
whom he seeks, the murderer of the king. The truth of the play is revealed, yet Oedipus remains
ignorant.
Chekhov also makes use of a symbol to represent truth in his play. In The Cherry Orchard, the
Ranevskayas are an aristocratic family that squander away their final days at their beloved cherry
orchard. It shall soon be auctioned off, yet the family merely sits about and engages in meaningless
chatter. They assume that everything shall be taken care of, the way it always has been in their lives.
However, there is one man who seems to be above the careless atmosphere that surrounds him
Lopakhin, the hard working son of generations of peasants. This man of great ambition represents
truth. The truth that Chekhov reveals in the play is the emerging changes in the Russian social
structure. The industrious middle class is on the rise, and the lazy aristocracy is doomed to fade away.
In the end, Lopakhin buys the cherry orchard, which is the estate where [his] father and grandfather
were slaves (Chekhov 366). The cherry orchard was the security, the wealth, and the power of the
aristocracy; it is bought by a merchant, the son of peasants. Could the aristocracy not see what was
happening, or did they choose to remain ignorant? By constructing summer cottages, the Ranevskaya
family could have prevented the loss of the beloved

An idea is viewed as a personal interpretation for creation, and coming up with concepts. Paul Callus s

shared with others. An idea being shared becomes an open discussion for criticism instead of growth
upon the idea. In the poem, Callus demonstrates in line two, The words I find so hard to say , of a

Once motor neurons die, the brain has an inability to initiate impulses and control muscle movement
of the body. Over the course of time as connections between muscles and nerves are damage muscles
will gradually become weaker, twitch, and atrophy. There are many symptoms during the onset of
ALS that are often overlooked that can include: Twitching, cramping, muscle stiffness or weakness,
slurred and or nasal speech, or difficulty chewing or swallowing. Each patients symptoms vary
depending on what muscles are damage first. Individuals can initially have the lower extremities
affected or the upper extremities as well as noticeable speech problems. Damage to upper motor
neurons can cause spastic muscles and contributes to an increase in reflexes, such as the gag reflex(7).
Muscles may become weaker, however, patients are still able to perform voluntary muscle
contractions with sensation still intact. Lower motor neuron damage is linked to muscles weakness,
atrophy, cramps, twitching, and a decline of reflexes(BOOK). As the disease progresses throughout
the patients body, they have increasing problems with muscle movement, maintaining weight,
speaking, and swallowing. As muscles of the respiratory system weaken, patients also have difficulty

The Organizational Behavior And Direction Of Change
Self Reflection In my current profession the organizational behavior and direction of change is
influenced by the organization s culture. Organizational behavior occurs in all organizations but and
shapes and develops the culture without the employees ever being aware. Culture can be described as
the particular roles and values that people are accustomed to in a workplace. Culture can vary from
organization to organization. Before taking this course at Cornerstone, organizational behavior and
change was an unfamiliar notion. After taking this course I have a better sense of my role as a leader
within my current profession. I have been able to further expound on the concept of what drives
people at work, whether it is prestige, money or power. I am now able to utilize the concepts from the
CQ model and recognize our own use of the steps in Kotter s Model. CQ Model Many people think of
culture as the specific food a person eat, their traditional family values or a person s ethnic
background. Although these assumptions are comprised in the explanation of culture, it is not limited
to only the customs described. In fact culture refers to behavior, values and norms of a particular
environment. This environment in this case is the workplace. Utilizing the CQ Model or Cultural
Intelligence Model, I was able to recognize my own strengths and areas that need improvement. The
CQ Model was developed by David Livermore which summed up people s cultural capabilities and

Methods Of Optimization Clustering
Optimization clustering As one of the most popular and widely used data mining techniques, cluster
analysis is mainly divided into hierarchical clustering and partitional clustering, which are carried out
in a supervised or unsupervised way to separate data into different groups based on similar
characteristics. Both the hierarchical and partitional clustering have advantages and drawbacks.
Especially, the efficiency and accuracy are the primary challenges that clustering analysis has to face.
For example, the most efficient algorithm of hierarchical clustering is complete linkage clustering in
some special cases, the complexity of which is Ο (n2). Therefore, the hierarchical clustering usually
leads to too slow efficiency for large data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all, a new idea of using PSO for k means clustering technique is presented by Vander Merwe
and Engelbrecht. Different from traditional k means clustering, which starts with multiple solutions to
the problem, the new approach specifies a fixed number of particles as a swarm, each of which
representing the centroids of all clusters. A new set of better solutions is generated after a successive
iterations based on previous solutions. As the first proposed method using PSO based on clustering, it
does not improve the efficiency of execution time, while this method provides a new way to optimize
clustering. Secondly, Omran propose Dynamic Clustering (DCPSO) algorithm based on binary PSO
combining with k means clustering. In this approach, PSO is used for clustering the data while k
means is used to refine the clustering solution. At first, the number of clusters is determined
automatically and the data sets are clustered based on minimal user interference. In order to decrease
the effects of initial conditions, a relatively large number of clusters are generated firstly. Then the
number of clusters is optimized by binary particle swarm optimization, while K means clustering
algorithm is used to select the centroids. Both synthetic and natural images are used to test the
approach, which show that the optimum number of clusters are generally founded on the tested
images.

2% versus 10% in the standard dressings (Duzkaya et al., 2016). One study, however, did not find a
statistical significant difference while comparing the CHG dressings with gauze and tape dressings for

The evidence of the studies is very crucial and justifies the need to incorporate the proposed
intervention (using the CHG dressing) in the project. Purpose of the Study Extensive evidence based
research on interventions to reduce the risk of CLABSIs have shown a substantial decrease in the rate
of CLABSIs. One of the recommended guideline is the use of CHG dressings for coverage of the
CVC insertion site. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the CHG dressings
compared to the standard dressings in preventing the rate of CLABSIs. The CHG dressings will be the
study experimental intervention while the standard dressings will be in the control group. Theoretical
Framework Planning and implementing change can be challenging, however, utilizing a process and
change model such as the Stetler model (Stetler, 2001) can result in an achievement of the intended
change. The Stetler model, was first developed in 1976, refined in 1994, and last updated in 2001 and
it addresses five phases that are necessary for the change to be adopted in the system (Stetler, 2001).
The first phase is preparation and it involves isolating and affirming a need, identifying where the
need will be applied, and conducting a comprehensive search for evidence based research regarding
that need. The second phase is validation where the researched evidence is systematically critiqued

Dbq Deforestation
Deforestation is when people cut down and clear forests for logging, agriculture, and mining. Many
people believe that deforestation has a positive impact on society. They say this because deforestation
can create things people need to survive, and deforestation creates jobs. On the other hand,
deforestation has a negative effect on society. Deforestation harms animals and plants, can wipe out
entire forests which are important to us all, and intensifies global warming. Deforestation has a
negative impact on our environment and should be limited. Deforestation has a negative effect on our

Deforestation is necessary for our survival. For instance, according to Document 2 , a secondary
source from National Geography Society, Forests are cut down for many reasons, but most of them are
related to money or to people s need to provide for their families . This shows that people need to clear
forests in order to make money and we rely on trees for things like paper and pencils, so without
deforestation we would most likely die. Therefore, deforestation are necessary for our survival.
Deforestation also creates jobs. For instance, in Document 4 , a primary source from Global
deforestation according to the U.N., the annual tropical deforestation in square miles rose from
approximately 30,000 in 1990 2000 to approximately 40,000 in 2000 2005. Even though this means
more trees are cut down, this also means more jobs for people because forests are being cleared.
According to the article Deforestation , an article from the site ic.galegroup.com, Forests are also
cleared to make way for new infrastructure, including roadways, homes, and commercial properties
such as shopping malls. This in turn creates more jobs. Forests are cut down for buildings and roads,
and who s going to build these roads and buildings? Workers, that s who. Despite all of this,
deforestation is still terrible because the losses outweigh the

Men s National Soccer Team Failure Essay
The United States of America Men s Soccer team failed to qualify for the World Cup.For the first time
since 1986 the USA did not qualify for the World Cup due to the Team s failure. The 2017 Team has
not only let down the previous men s team, but the fans as well. Their horrifying performance is a sign
that they did not deserve to qualify anyway.
As stated by Brian Phillips, for the New York Times, this loss shows the lack of progression of the
program. For years United States soccer fans have clung on to the idea that the Men s National Team
was in a positive progression stage. That the Team was on the brink of finding their groove. This lost
to Trinidad and Tobago, the worst team in the CONCACAF, has revealed the unwanted truth. The
Men s National Soccer Team is a joke.
Landon Donovan, an American soccer star, said that The lack of urgency to really understand what
was it stake was really disheartening for me and candidly it was really hard to watch. Donovan is right
the lack of urgency from the team was alarming. I mean they only had to score three goals against the
worst team in their hexagon. They only scored one for the USA and one for Trinidad and Tobago.

popular professional sports are football and baseball, not soccer. I mean the MLS is where european

Surely You Re Joking Mr. Feynman Essay
It is hard not to enjoy this author. Richard Feynman is an extremely curious character with a lot of
time on his hands. He obviously loved to explore the science world as an art. He won the Nobel Prize
in 1965 for physics and was one of the greatest physicists of all time. Within the few chapters and
pages that I have read, Richard Feynman was definitely a man with a huge sense of adventure and a
very high intelligence. In the first chapter that I read (Testing Bloodhounds), I thought that it was very
interesting. I never knew that we, as humans, could smell and observe things just like dogs. To my
understanding we can tell just about anything from smelling and looking at something that has just
been touched. I thought it was cool ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Feynman had a good excuse for picking locks though. Going through filing cabinets may not have
been legal, but Feynman did it. Today, if we were to pick a lock in a Dr. s office, we would definitely
get in trouble, it seemed like Feynman hardly ever got into trouble. He was probably so well respected
that no one really cared if he broke into cabinets or houses for that matter. The Third chapter that I
read was, Certainly Mr. Big! It was a chapter of excitement to say the least! I think that Feynman was
trying to figure out all of the games that people played with money and life. This chapter was not
really my favorite. It had a lot of information and it was just weird. The way that he explained the
situation with the high roller from Texas was kind of confusing and boring. Oh well, I guess you
cannot always enjoy every single chapter in every single book that you read. The one thing that I did
find out in this chapter, is that Richard Feynman likes women. That along with learning not to be a
gentleman is what I learned most. I thought it was different to hear that he did not want to be a
gentleman, but then when he explained it further with the Texas high roller I got what he was saying.
It was definitely a packed chapter with lots of information in it. The fourth chapter I read was, Is
electricity Fire? I liked how he brought God into science in this chapter. It is often hard to relate

Ignorance In Flowers For Algernon By Charlie Gordon
All you need in this life is ignorance and confidence, and then success is sure. Mark Twain.
Sometimes ignorance is bliss. People on occasion, are happier being ignorant. In the novel Flowers
For Algernon, the main character Charlie Gordon, seems happier being dumb or ignorant. However,
people disagree with the fact that ignorance can sometimes be better and stand with the opinion that
knowledge is always beneficial. In reality, ignorance can sometimes be helpful to people.
In actuality, ignorance is quite advantageous. For example, little kids believe Santa Claus is real and
are ignorant to the fact that their parents are buying them presents, until their parents tell them.
Another example includes kids in other countries. Take for example kids in South Africa. Kids in
South Africa will most likely never have an Iphone 7, fancy expensive clothes, or have even basic
privileges, such as going to school or having a hot shower. Although these kids will never experience
experiences that kids in America have, they are still content with what they have, because they are
ignorant to the fact that superior conditions exist. An additional example is Frederick Douglass, an
American slave. He learned to read, write and spell and envied his fellow slaves for their ignorance,
after learning his tragic fate about being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ignorance can be effective in the long run. For example, a parent who is quite strict and does not know
their child goes out and disobeys them is considered ignorance being bliss. Another example is
someone who is deeply afraid of clowns in a horror movie not knowing a clown is standing outside
their window is also ignorance being blissful. A final example is a dog that loves the park and is told
that he is going to the park (but is ignorant to the fact he is going to the vet), might be blissful. All of
these examples are proof that not having knowledge, can be quite

Home Ownership And The Foreclosure Crisis
Many families lost their homes to foreclosure during the recent economic downturn in the US
economy. These former homeowners became renters as the national home ownership rate dropped.
Many families felt that home ownership would remain out of their reach due to previous foreclosure
history. In addition, losing your home and transitioning to renting is tough on your psyche. However,
as rental rates continue to increase and the economy recovers these same families now see possibilities
of home ownership again. The housing market has characterized the buyers as Boomerang Buyers

For example, the landlord and tenant may agree that $1,500 in monthly rent is appropriate, and
$200.00 per month in additional rent credits will go towards an eventual down payment for the home.
In this example, the tenant will pay a total of $1,700 per month. The option fee and rent credits are
almost always non refundable, and will go towards the down payment at the end of the term.
There are many benefits to the Rent to Own option, including living in and taking care of the home
prior to purchase. While paying each month toward the lease purchase, the buyer can continue to
improve credit history and begin to build equity in the home. The Rent to Own option is a great way to
get into a specific neighborhood with the opportunity to purchase the home without the penalty of a
large down payment or previous bad credit history. If the buyer has recently regained employment this
option allows further building of employment history. While there aredisadvantages to every option,
specific, and clear communication can resolve many issues up front. The major consideration in the
Rent to Own option is the loss of rent credits and the option fee toward the purchase if the tenant
determines that the home is not what they wanted. In addition, if the market changes and the fixed
price of the home is higher than the market demand the tenant is contractually obligated to the agreed
upon price. So as a

Greek Women Vs Athenian Women
Ancient Greece had standards for its women that dictated how women were expected to compose and
behave themselves, in both the home and in public. Women were largely expected to behave
themselves in accordance to Greek mythological character Penelope, whom was feminine and
particularly dedicated to her spouse, which confirmed the value of chastity. The concept illustrated by
Penelope was rejected by Spartan women, whom challenged the norms of extreme femininity and
were even expected to partake in rigorous physical instruction (Germain, 2013). Euripides, a tragedian
of classical Athens even stated in his productions, No Spartan girl could grow up modest even if she
wanted to. You never find them at home; no, they go out with bare thighs and loose clothes, to wrestle
and run races along with the young men (Vernant, Lambert, 1995). Regulations commanding authority

The Role of HBCUs in American Society Essay
For almost two hundred years, Historically Black Colleges and Universities or HBCUs have played a
pivotal role in the education of African American people, and negro people internationally. These
schools have provided the majority of black college graduates at the Graduate and Post Graduate
level; schools such as Hampton University, Morehouse University, Spellman University and Howard
University are four universities at the forefront of the advanced education of blacks. For sometime
there has been a discussion on whether or not these institutes should remain in existence or if they are
just another form of racism. There were also concerning the quality of education provided at these
institutions. In my opinion, from the evidence provided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most people who believe that HBCUs are no longer useful also believe that because the law forbids
the practice of racism HBCUs should be shut down. However, few take into consideration the many
white historically white institutions with a legacy of turning away talented African Americans. What
about these schools? Should they not be closed down as well? I believe that persons who are
proponents of the abolition of HBCUs are subconsciously practicing racism, because they are not
making mention of the many schools in existence with a predominantly white student body; HBCUs
are not meant to be a form of segregation but a part of history.
I also believe that HBCUs are a better alternative to affirmative action. These institutions have the
capacity to attract and motivate many young black people, to advance their education. By seeing
people just like them, with similar backgrounds and similar interest making great achievements, it
provides those young black people with a pride and a sense of empowerment. This is most effective in
the poorer neighborhoods where morale is low. It is true that HBCUs enroll students with the lowest
test scores in American education; according to Elias Blake Jr. in the article from Emerge, Black
colleges are still enrolling a majority of the most vulnerable students that have the lowest income and
the lowest test scores... (par. 7). Studies show that in many disadvantaged communities, the quality of

Analysis Of The Book Night By Elie Wiesel
Elie Wiesel was born in 1928. In his book, Night, which was published in 1955, Wiesel depicts his
personal journey through the German concentration camps by the use of his character Eliezer
(Sparknotes). At the age of 15, he lives with his family in Sighet, Transylvania (Biography). His father
Shlomo is very involved with the community there. Eliezer is deeply engaged in religious studies,
being taught by Moshe, an older man in his community who is considered a lunatic by many
(Sparknotes). In 1941, Moshe is deported from Sighet. He later returns to tell of a great tragedy. His
train had been overtaken by Gestapo, and all but him where brutally executed. Because of Moshe s
nature, none of the Jews of Sighet believe the horror stories that he tells. Believing they are safe, the
Jews live in denial for a number of years, but eventually the Holocaust makes its way to Sighet
(Sparknotes). In 1945, the whole Jewish population of Sighet is deported to Auschwitz Birkenau. This
is one of the biggest and worst of the German concentration camps. It is here were Eliezer s mother
and sisters are killed in the gas chambers. He and his father are selected for the labor force (eNotes).
The work is very tough and Eliezer has to work very hard to take care of himself as well as his aging
father. As he witnesses the ongoing horrors of the camp he finds his heart turning cold. His faith in
God is lost after he witnesses the hanging of a young child which has connection to some prisoners

Major Influences On German Baroque Music
1. One of the major influences on German Baroque music was the church and the other major

Summary Of The Charge Of The Light Brigade At Balaklava
The Charge of the Light Brigade at Balaklava by Lord Alfred Tennyson is a poem about the historical
battle that took place between British and Russia during the Crimean War. Tennyson wrote the poem
as a remembrance of the heroism and bravery the British soldiers showed during the battle. The poem
is well known for its repetitive rhythm that is used to portray the sound of the charge. The repetition
used in the poem widely affects the rhythm, emotion, and story being told. Without it, the poem could
not have nearly portrayed the strength of the battle as well as it did.
This poem uses a technique known as falling rhythm. Falling rhythm is when the stress is on the first
beat of the line, and then falls off for the remaining words. This can be deemed important because of
the way it is a symbol for the fall of the British troops. Although the rhyme scheme changes
throughout the poem, Tennyson uses very similar strategies within each stanza. He often rhymes the
last word, and sometimes even uses the same final word for many line. For example, When can their
glory fade! / Oh the wild charge they made! / All the world wondered. / Honor the charge they made! /
Honor the Light Brigade, / Noble six hundred! Even though the stress is on the first beat, the last
words of most of the lines rhyme, making the whole line seem strong and complete each time we read
it. Notice how he uses the word made twice, and rhymes with that word 4 times. This helps the reader

Jose Garcia Villa s Footnote To Youth
The short story Footnotes to Youth , written by Filipino writer Jose Garcia Villa, talks about a young
boy at the age of seventeen Dodong, who was initially very enthusiastic about life, but then the
obstacles and tribulations of life got the best of him and made him became grim about life. This goes
for same for his wife Teang, who carried the burden of taking care of six children and doing household
chores, and as a result she became shapeless and thin. Both of their lives became miserable after
having children despite their young age.
By reading the literary text Footnotes to Youth , it is found that the theory of psychoanalysis is applied
in the story. Through the dreams and the thoughts of the character, it is shown that the characters of
the story had inner feelings within them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

she wished that she was not married, or at least that she had no children. There is also denial when

doing the same thing as he did eighteen years ago. However, he could not do anything but to give his
blessings to his son reluctantly and hoped that he would able to go through th tribulation of life.
There is also evidence of archetypes, an easily recognizable role in literature and drama. It is found
that one character can have more than one archetype, as long they meet the requirements. In the short
story Footnotes to Youth , it is discovered that Teang was the anima, or the ideazed female in Dodong

Early Life Of The Minotaus
Imagine having the body of a man, but the head and tail of a bull. Now imagine your mom is a human
and your dad is a giant bull. This is what the Minotaur had to deal with his entire life. The Minotaur
was the most unfortunate character in Greek mythology considering his appearance, early life, and
adulthood. The Minotaur had a terrible body appearance. He had the head and tail of a bull, but the
body of a man. He was very large and considered a monster and an unnatural being because of how he
looked (Karas). Many people also probably ran away from the Minotaur even only after getting a
glimpse of him, not even getting to know him more. This could ve been a contributing factor as to
why he started eating people later in life. The Minotaur also had the worst early life of any character in
mythology. For one, his dad was a great white bull, and his mom, Pasiphae, was a normal human
(Garcia). Many people wonder how his parents were two different creatures. Minos, the husband of
Pasiphae, once had two brothers, and they all wanted to become King of Crete after their father passed
away. He bragged that he had the favor of the gods and could ask for anything. He prayed to Poseidon,
and he listened to Minos. Poseidon sent him a majestic white bull and told him to sacrifice it. Having
received the bull, Minos demonstrated his power to his brothers and became king, but he did not
sacrifice the white bull. Poseidon became angry, and cursed Pasiphae to fall in love with the bull.

Irish people had longed for independence from the British for a long time; but, Britain really managed
to agitate the Irish when they sent settlers from Britain and Scotland to settle in Northern Ireland. This
agitation eventually grew into the Northern Ireland War, as the Protestants began to take control. If the

are excepted. This law still follows the Limerick Treaty, but slowly the Treaty is betrayed, and it
leaves the Catholic people with nothing. The Catholics also wanted full independence because they
felt that the Protestants were affecting their identity, and they were afraid of losing it. One can see that
that Irish united to fight for their cultural identity which was slowly being melded with the Protestant
culture. Through the loss of the education system, they were losing their religious tradition. There
were no more churches, and slowly their faith was becoming less connected to the people. By
removing the identity of the Irish Catholics and influencing their culture directly and indirectly they
are angering the Catholics, provoking rebellions.
It was not the Irish Catholic identity that was being lost, through the restriction enforced on them they
were also losing their political stature. They lost the power to have any say in the running of

Essay On How To Build A Rifle
How to Build a Precision Rifle on a Budget Many people have grown an interested in long range or
competitive shoot, but they don t know what they need. They don t know what they need for a rifle or
how their rifle needs to be setup. Another thing a lot people don t understand is that they don t need to
remortgage their house to build one of these rifles like many people would like you to believe. In this
paper I will help you understand what you need to make a custom long range rifle and the cost that
make up each part of this rifle. I will also be tell you why each piece of this rifle is so important. By
the end of this paper we will have built a Precision Rifle under 2,000 dollars
First you have to pick a rifle cartage that will fit your needs and is a good fit to you. Your also have to
consider the cost of ammo if you are on a budget. You are also going to have to consider if you are
reloading or going to reload because that could affect your decision too. For example I like the 300
win mag because it has the capability to drop an animal at 1,200 plus yards. I also like this cartage
because there are so many different reloads that I can make for this rifle for long range and ... Show

I highly recommend you spending a good amount of money on this part but you can get away with
spending 300 500 dollars on the Millett LRS line because they are well made and have 140 moa of
elevation. If you are willing to spend more than go with the Bushnell Elite Tactical Mil Dot First Focal
Plane (FFP) scope you can find them for as cheap as 820. I person recommend this one because of the
lifetime warranty that Bushnell have on it. Also I like this one a lot more than the Millett because of it
being a FFP scope allowing you to mil range at any power. So now you are at 1,247 to 1,447 if you go
with the Millett But if you go with the Bushnell you ll be at 1,767 without

The Poetry Of Audre Lorde
Poetry is a very creative way of writing and reading literature. It is used to express feelings, thoughts,
or emotions on a certain topic. Poetry writing goes back to ancient times and is still used today.
Famous poets include Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, Edgar Allen Poe and many others. There was
one poet, in particular, that was more modern and different than the rest, Audre Lorde. She was known
as a feminist, civil rights activist, mother, and a visionary. Audre Lorde was creative in a way that she
used her poetry to support and spread awareness for many social movements in America. Her poetry
often expressed her thoughts and feelings on major issues such as Civil Rights, Gay rights, Women s
rights and racial equality. Mrs. Lorde uses unique literacy languages, such as similes, symbols,
imagery, and tone throughout her works entitled A Litany for Survival and Outline ; to voice her
struggles through her childhood and life.
Audrey Geraldine Lorde was born on February 18, 1934, in Harlem, New York. Harlem was a place
that represented negro success and was a home to many writers (Veaux 5). She was legally blind and
labeled as a special child which made her two older sisters despise her and parents tolerate her.
Growing up in a Caribbean household was very strict. She was expected to act appropriately, continue
her educational career, and pursue strong work ethics (Veaux 18), if not she was punished by scolding
or beatings. Lorde lacked the love and attention

Comparing Milner And Goodale s Dichotomy
3.1 Anatomy of the two pathways
As visual information exits in the occipital lobe, it then follows two main pathways.
The dorsal pathway begins with V1, goes through V2, then to the dorsomedial area (DM/
V6) and Visual area MT (middle temporal/ V5) and to the posterior parietal cortex. The
ventral pathway travels from V1, goes through V2, then through visual area V4, and
finally to the inferior temporal cortex (IP cortex).
3.2 History before Milner and Goodale s division
I would like to use a sentence from Goodale Milner (1995) as a beginning. In the
late 1960s, a number of different functional dichotomies of the visual system were
proposed, most of them contrasting the functions of the phylogenetically genetically older
pathway from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Bálint s syndrome is a kind of triad of severe neuropsychological
impairments: inability to perceive the visual field as a whole (simultanagnosia),
difficulty in fixating the eyes (oculomotor apraxia), and inability to move the hand to a
specific object by using vision (optic ataxia) (Bálint, 1909). A patient with bilateral
parietal damages causing disorders of spatial attention, gaze, and visually guided
reaching recovered from this syndrome. After her recovery, she had no difficulty in
recognizing line drawings of common objects, but her ability to pick up those objects
were still remained impaired. This study indicated that damage to the parietal lobe could
impair the ability to use size, shape, and orientations of control the hand and fingers when
the patients need to perform the grasping movement, although their ability to use the
same information to identify and describe the objects preserved (Jakobson, Archibald,
Carey, Goodale, 1991).
Another very important case of the dissociation is the famous patient D.F., who
developed a profound visual form agnosia following carbon monoxide poisoning.

Analysis Of The Poem Still I Rise
Discrimination, oppression, and gender inequality are acts that one would not think happens in our
present day society. African Americans have suffered racial prejudice and injustice in this nation for
many decades. The quest for equality and civil rights has been a never ending struggle even before the
famous 1960 s civil rights movement that was spear headed by Martin Luther King Jr. and many
others. Even though Thomas Jefferson wrote the famous words in the Declaration of Independence all
men are created equal ( ), we are consistently observing that the fight for human rights and equality
still exist today. Although African Americans have experienced and endured countless hardships and
setbacks, their spirit proves to be resilient. In the unforgettable poem Still I Rise , written by the
literary giant, Maya Angelou, the poem powerfully expresses the plight of the African American
people and how we have risen above racism and adversity only to survive and flourish with dignity.
Angelou is a magnificent example of how African Americans can triumph over tragedy. Her birth
name was Marguerite Ann Johnson. She was born to Bailey Johnson Sr., and Vivian Baxter Johnson
on April 4, 1928, in St. Louis, Missouri. During her childhood, she witness racism while she and her
older brother was sent to live with their grandmother Annie Henderson after their parents divorced in
the segregated town of Stamps, Arkansas (Watson 9). Her brother gave Marguerite the nickname
Maya as

Impossible Labs is a non profit, crowdfunded, collaborative effort of inventors and programmers
recruited mostly through crowdsourcing or volunteering. It was founded in 2013 by TV and film
producer, Mick Ebeling, who back in 2008 felt a sudden calling to do more for others. B. In his

The Controversy Over Voter Identification Laws Essay
In 2002, with the intention of updating election technology, hampering voter fraud, and increasing
faith in the electoral system, President George W. Bush signed into law the Help America Vote Act
(Gerken 14). Since the implementation of this act, controversial voter identification laws have begun
springing up all over the country. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, thirty
one states require all voters to show ID before voting at the polls. In fifteen of these, the ID must
include a photo of the voter; in the remaining sixteen, non photo forms of ID are acceptable (Voter
Identification Requirements). In 2005 Indiana lawmakers passed one of the strictest voter
identification laws in the country requiring voters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Republican proponents claim that voter identification laws do not discourage those who are most
likely to vote from turning out to the polls. They also believe voter identification laws are vitally
essential to discourage voter fraud and to strengthen public trust in the electoral system (Gerken 40).
Looking closer at both sides of this continuing controversy will help to clarify each sides claims and
reveal any misinformation. Democrats, who almost unanimously oppose voter identification laws,
strongly feel that minority groups of voters, who tend to vote Democratic, are more likely to not have
the resources, knowledge, or means to have or obtain the necessary identification requirements for the
polls. In a research project developed by Matt A. Barreto, Stephen A. Nuño, and Gabriel R. Sanchez,
testing was conducted to determine the rates of access to valid photo identification among voters and
non voters in Indiana, with an eye towards specific demographic groups, such as the elderly and racial
minorities (Barreto, Nuño, and Sanchez 112). Indiana was selected because of its strict voter
identification law and for the ability to closely assess specific segments of the electorate under such a
law. Their research method, using a random telephone survey of 1,000 registered and 500 non
registered voters, was conducted in a way that was unbiased and provided the most reliable and
accurate results possible (Barreto, Nuño, and Sanchez

  • 2. Defining Freedom in Eric Foner s The Story of American... In Eric Foner s book, The Story of American Freedom, he writes a historical monograph about how liberty came to be. In the book, his argument does not focus on one fixed definition of freedom like others are tempted to do. Unlike others, Foner describes liberty as an ever changing entity; its definition is fluid and does not change in a linear progress. While others portray liberty as a pre determined concept and gradually getting better, Foner argues the very history of liberty is constantly reshaping the definition of liberty, itself. Essentially, the multiple and conflicting views on liberty has always been a terrain of conflict and has changed in time (Foner xv). Foner focuses, specifically, on how the definition of liberty has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The redefinition of property not only affected the very meaning of freedom but also those entitled to enjoy it. Because economic resources, like civil rights, possessions, and land, is easily accessible, the limitations for men expanded. Nonetheless, the qualifications were still the same and in order to vote one had to be white, male, and own property. As civil rights were being expanded, it also played a role in the meaning of religious freedom. Because government were not allowed to interfere in personal matters, religious decisions were free from governmental interference. During the 18th century, the meaning of freedom has changed in so many ways. In Chapter three, we can also continue to this change. Social conditions such as the three process that occurred during the revolution also affected the meaning of freedom. The first was territorial expansion, Manifest Destiny being the underlying idea behind it, and moving westward to acquire more land meant more property could be own. It also reinforced the promise of economic opportunity given that with more land one was able to own a farm and participate in the market revolution. And with the revolution reaching its highest point, property owning qualifications for voting was eliminated and political democracy, the second process, mean not ownership of property, but ownership of one s self (Foner 52). Inventions And Inventions Of The United States Imagine a time when the only way to get around was by riding a horse, or a time when the only way to get in contact with someone was sending a letter, or a time when the only way to dig a hole was using a shovel, during the mid 19th century young innovators, Alfred Nobel, Samuel Morse, and Thomas Edison developed machines that made doing all that easier. Inventions and innovations like dynamite, the railroads, and the telegraph helped the United States economy grow. Scientist developed, a railroad that connected New York City to San Francisco, a telegraph that could send messages across long distances within minutes, and dynamite which could blow up anything along its path. The United States had a small, weak, economy, until the mid 1800s when inventions and innovations united and strengthened the economy. From the beginning of time, people have invented things and innovated to help expand their economy. Gunpowder, the printing press, language, the wheel, pottery, post offices, and man made bridges are all examples of inventions that led to economic growth. In 1800 prior to railroads, the only practical way to travel and trade across long distances was along the nation s natural waterways (Metzner 1). People could not work too far from home, travel , or even visit family that lived far away. Ignorance is the assumption that one can understand all about the world around them. An ignorant person is so confident they comprehend the truth, that they are blind to the greater truth. Anton Chekhov and Sophocles deal with the idea of this sinful pride that leads to ignorance in their respective works, The Cherry Orchard and Oedipus Rex. The timing of the chorus plea as Oedipus enters the stage clearly demonstrates that Oedipus is the man whom he seeks, the murderer of the king. In The Cherry Orchard, the Ranevskayas are an aristocratic family that squander away their final days at their beloved cherry orchard. It shall soon be auctioned off, yet the family merely sits about and engages in meaningless chatter. They assume that everything shall be taken care of, the way it always has been in their lives. • 20. The Organizational Behavior And Direction Of Change Self Reflection In my current profession the organizational behavior and direction of change is influenced by the organization s culture. Organizational behavior occurs in all organizations but and shapes and develops the culture without the employees ever being aware. Culture can be described as the particular roles and values that people are accustomed to in a workplace. Culture can vary from organization to organization. Before taking this course at Cornerstone, organizational behavior and change was an unfamiliar notion. After taking this course I have a better sense of my role as a leader within my current profession. I have been able to further expound on the concept of what drives people at work, whether it is prestige, money or power. I am now able to utilize the concepts from the CQ model and recognize our own use of the steps in Kotter s Model. CQ Model Many people think of culture as the specific food a person eat, their traditional family values or a person s ethnic background. Although these assumptions are comprised in the explanation of culture, it is not limited to only the customs described. In fact culture refers to behavior, values and norms of a particular environment. This environment in this case is the workplace. Utilizing the CQ Model or Cultural Intelligence Model, I was able to recognize my own strengths and areas that need improvement. The CQ Model was developed by David Livermore which summed up people s cultural capabilities and ability ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Methods Of Optimization Clustering Optimization clustering As one of the most popular and widely used data mining techniques, cluster analysis is mainly divided into hierarchical clustering and partitional clustering, which are carried out in a supervised or unsupervised way to separate data into different groups based on similar characteristics. Both the hierarchical and partitional clustering have advantages and drawbacks. Especially, the efficiency and accuracy are the primary challenges that clustering analysis has to face. For example, the most efficient algorithm of hierarchical clustering is complete linkage clustering in some special cases, the complexity of which is Ο (n2). Therefore, the hierarchical clustering usually leads to too slow efficiency for large data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First of all, a new idea of using PSO for k means clustering technique is presented by Vander Merwe and Engelbrecht. Different from traditional k means clustering, which starts with multiple solutions to the problem, the new approach specifies a fixed number of particles as a swarm, each of which representing the centroids of all clusters. A new set of better solutions is generated after a successive iterations based on previous solutions. As the first proposed method using PSO based on clustering, it does not improve the efficiency of execution time, while this method provides a new way to optimize clustering. Secondly, Omran propose Dynamic Clustering (DCPSO) algorithm based on binary PSO combining with k means clustering. In this approach, PSO is used for clustering the data while k means is used to refine the clustering solution. At first, the number of clusters is determined automatically and the data sets are clustered based on minimal user interference. In order to decrease the effects of initial conditions, a relatively large number of clusters are generated firstly. Then the number of clusters is optimized by binary particle swarm optimization, while K means clustering algorithm is used to select the centroids. Both synthetic and natural images are used to test the approach, which show that the optimum number of clusters are generally founded on the tested images. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Within the few chapters and pages that I have read, Richard Feynman was definitely a man with a huge sense of adventure and a very high intelligence. People on occasion, are happier being ignorant. In the novel Flowers For Algernon, the main character Charlie Gordon, seems happier being dumb or ignorant. However, people disagree with the fact that ignorance can sometimes be better and stand with the opinion that knowledge is always beneficial. In reality, ignorance can sometimes be helpful to people. In actuality, ignorance is quite advantageous. For example, little kids believe Santa Claus is real and are ignorant to the fact that their parents are buying them presents, until their parents tell them. Another example includes kids in other countries. Take for example kids in South Africa. Kids in South Africa will most likely never have an Iphone 7, fancy expensive clothes, or have even basic privileges, such as going to school or having a hot shower. Although these kids will never experience experiences that kids in America have, they are still content with what they have, because they are ignorant to the fact that superior conditions exist. I believe that persons who are proponents of the abolition of HBCUs are subconsciously practicing racism, because they are not making mention of the many schools in existence with a predominantly white student body; HBCUs are not meant to be a form of segregation but a part of history. I also believe that HBCUs are a better alternative to affirmative action. These institutions have the capacity to attract and motivate many young black people, to advance their education. By seeing people just like them, with similar backgrounds and similar interest making great achievements, it provides those young black people with a pride and a sense of empowerment. This is most effective in the poorer neighborhoods where morale is low. • 36. Summary Of The Charge Of The Light Brigade At Balaklava The Charge of the Light Brigade at Balaklava by Lord Alfred Tennyson is a poem about the historical battle that took place between British and Russia during the Crimean War. Tennyson wrote the poem as a remembrance of the heroism and bravery the British soldiers showed during the battle. The poem is well known for its repetitive rhythm that is used to portray the sound of the charge. The repetition used in the poem widely affects the rhythm, emotion, and story being told. Without it, the poem could not have nearly portrayed the strength of the battle as well as it did. This poem uses a technique known as falling rhythm. Falling rhythm is when the stress is on the first beat of the line, and then falls off for the remaining words. This can be deemed important because of the way it is a symbol for the fall of the British troops. Although the rhyme scheme changes throughout the poem, Tennyson uses very similar strategies within each stanza. He often rhymes the last word, and sometimes even uses the same final word for many line. For example, When can their glory fade! / Oh the wild charge they made! / All the world wondered. / Honor the charge they made! / Honor the Light Brigade, / Noble six hundred! Even though the stress is on the first beat, the last words of most of the lines rhyme, making the whole line seem strong and complete each time we read it. • 42. Early Life Of The Minotaus Imagine having the body of a man, but the head and tail of a bull. Now imagine your mom is a human and your dad is a giant bull. This is what the Minotaur had to deal with his entire life. The Minotaur was the most unfortunate character in Greek mythology considering his appearance, early life, and adulthood. The Minotaur had a terrible body appearance. He had the head and tail of a bull, but the body of a man. He was very large and considered a monster and an unnatural being because of how he looked (Karas). Many people also probably ran away from the Minotaur even only after getting a glimpse of him, not even getting to know him more. This could ve been a contributing factor as to why he started eating people later in life. The Minotaur also had the worst early life of any character in mythology. For one, his dad was a great white bull, and his mom, Pasiphae, was a normal human (Garcia). Many people wonder how his parents were two different creatures. Minos, the husband of Pasiphae, once had two brothers, and they all wanted to become King of Crete after their father passed away. He bragged that he had the favor of the gods and could ask for anything. He prayed to Poseidon, and he listened to Minos. Poseidon sent him a majestic white bull and told him to sacrifice it. Having received the bull, Minos demonstrated his power to his brothers and became king, but he did not sacrifice the white bull. Poseidon became angry, and cursed Pasiphae to fall in love with the bull. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Defusing the Conflict in Northern Ireland It seems that all, throughout history, Protestants and Catholics are always butting heads. Tensions were particularly high between Ireland and Britain with Ireland being Catholic and Britain Protestant. This religious discrepancy had a real effect on the Irish people, interfering with their Catholic tradition. The Irish people had longed for independence from the British for a long time; but, Britain really managed to agitate the Irish when they sent settlers from Britain and Scotland to settle in Northern Ireland. This agitation eventually grew into the Northern Ireland War, as the Protestants began to take control. If the Protestants had just settled into Northern Ireland and went about their life, there may have never been a war. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This law still follows the Limerick Treaty, but slowly the Treaty is betrayed, and it leaves the Catholic people with nothing. The Catholics also wanted full independence because they felt that the Protestants were affecting their identity, and they were afraid of losing it. One can see that that Irish united to fight for their cultural identity which was slowly being melded with the Protestant culture. Through the loss of the education system, they were losing their religious tradition. There were no more churches, and slowly their faith was becoming less connected to the people. By removing the identity of the Irish Catholics and influencing their culture directly and indirectly they are angering the Catholics, provoking rebellions. It was not the Irish Catholic identity that was being lost, through the restriction enforced on them they were also losing their political stature. Audrey Geraldine Lorde was born on February 18, 1934, in Harlem, New York. Harlem was a place that represented negro success and was a home to many writers (Veaux 5). She was legally blind and labeled as a special child which made her two older sisters despise her and parents tolerate her. Growing up in a Caribbean household was very strict. The dorsal pathway begins with V1, goes through V2, then to the dorsomedial area (DM/ V6) and Visual area MT (middle temporal/ V5) and to the posterior parietal cortex. The ventral pathway travels from V1, goes through V2, then through visual area V4, and finally to the inferior temporal cortex (IP cortex). 3.2 History before Milner and Goodale s division I would like to use a sentence from Goodale Milner (1995) as a beginning. • 48. Analysis Of The Poem Still I Rise Discrimination, oppression, and gender inequality are acts that one would not think happens in our present day society. African Americans have suffered racial prejudice and injustice in this nation for many decades. The quest for equality and civil rights has been a never ending struggle even before the famous 1960 s civil rights movement that was spear headed by Martin Luther King Jr. and many others. Even though Thomas Jefferson wrote the famous words in the Declaration of Independence all men are created equal ( ), we are consistently observing that the fight for human rights and equality still exist today. Although African Americans have experienced and endured countless hardships and setbacks, their spirit proves to be resilient. In the unforgettable poem Still I Rise , written by the literary giant, Maya Angelou, the poem powerfully expresses the plight of the African American people and how we have risen above racism and adversity only to survive and flourish with dignity. • 50. The Controversy Over Voter Identification Laws Essay In 2002, with the intention of updating election technology, hampering voter fraud, and increasing faith in the electoral system, President George W. Bush signed into law the Help America Vote Act (Gerken 14). Since the implementation of this act, controversial voter identification laws have begun springing up all over the country. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, thirty one states require all voters to show ID before voting at the polls. In fifteen of these, the ID must include a photo of the voter; in the remaining sixteen, non photo forms of ID are acceptable (Voter Identification Requirements). In 2005 Indiana lawmakers passed one of the strictest voter identification laws in the country requiring voters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Republican proponents claim that voter identification laws do not discourage those who are most likely to vote from turning out to the polls. They also believe voter identification laws are vitally essential to discourage voter fraud and to strengthen public trust in the electoral system (Gerken 40). Looking closer at both sides of this continuing controversy will help to clarify each sides claims and reveal any misinformation. Democrats, who almost unanimously oppose voter identification laws, strongly feel that minority groups of voters, who tend to vote Democratic, are more likely to not have the resources, knowledge, or means to have or obtain the necessary identification requirements for the polls. In a research project developed by Matt A. Barreto, Stephen A. Nuño, and Gabriel R. Sanchez, testing was conducted to determine the rates of access to valid photo identification among voters and non voters in Indiana, with an eye towards specific demographic groups, such as the elderly and racial minorities (Barreto, Nuño, and Sanchez 112). Indiana was selected because of its strict voter identification law and for the ability to closely assess specific segments of the electorate under such a law. Their research method, using a random telephone survey of 1,000 registered and 500 non registered voters, was conducted in a way that was unbiased and provided the most reliable and accurate results possible (Barreto, Nuño, and Sanchez ...
