Throughout my life, there have been several important experiences which have influenced my desire

Didion uses logos to tell her reader about the condition itself. The statement, Migraine gives some
people mild hallucinations, temporarily blinds others, shows up not only as a headache but as a
gastrointestinal disturbance, a painful sensitivity to all sensory stimuli, an abrupt overpowering

survival and resistance . Survivance refers to an active sense of presence and in native stories, natural
reason, active traditions, customs, narrative resistance, and clearly observable in personal attributes,
such as humor, spirit, cast of mind, and moral courage (Vizenor). It allows them to transform their
experiences of historical trauma into courage, forgiveness, and healing through political activism and
cultural revitalization (sfsu).Vizenor defines this term in opposition to victimry and it is more than just
survival for the Native Americans, but as self reliant perseverance through all the hardships that had

My family and friends don t quite understand my motivations to become a mental health counselor.
Personally, I can think of nothing more rewarding than helping people through dark times and giving
hope for a brighter future. Deep down, I m an idealist with enough life experience to pepper my
expectations. There are countless possible research topics within the mental health field, but I ve
recently developed a deep appreciation of suicide prevention since volunteering for the Kern County
Mental Health Hotline. I ve also become acutely aware of the relationship between suicide and mood
disorders, such as depression and bipolar disorder. According to the CDC, suicide is the second
leading cause of death for people aged 15 34 years old, and the 10th leading cause of death overall. An
estimated 90% of those who have died by suicide suffered from mental illness. That makes mental
illness the top risk factor (NAMI, 2016). I was able to find these statistics quite readily, but I couldn t
find anything relating specifically to mood disorders. Since I am not sure of what type of research
already exists on the subject matter, a literature review would be the perfect place to start. Not only
would a review help verify that this is direction of research has potential, it would help to develop my
understanding of the topic. If I do find that work has been done on the topic, I could narrow my scope

My family and I go there every year! It is similar to ACL in Austin, except fancier with more hands on
activities. Most of the locals go here, along with some people who travel to Quebec exclusively for
this purpose. There are a bunch of bands, and usually couches and carpets that the audience can sit on
while watching the bands. Some of the performances are outside, while some of them are in tents to
protect the audience from the wind and cold. There are also other booths, like shops and such. My dad
and I went in one where they use a green screen to make it look like you re at a concert!
There are many things that students can enjoy there. There s many kinds of foods, like escargot,
chocolate croissants, and french onion soup. As mentioned earlier, there is also a fancy castle hotel
which people can stay in. You can visit stores there which sell all different kinds of products.
In Quebec, there are many family attractions, which include fancy family friendly restaurants. There
are lots of historical spots and museums, which the family can drop by to receive a quick history
lesson. There s also hotels all over, so you won t have a hard time finding a place to stay.

Can one benefit from the tearing apart of a culture? There are always those who benefit in the midst of
negativity. The Ibo community is torn apart by the Westerners, dividing families and beliefs. Nwoye, a
character in Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart, embraces the European culture, and his cultural
identity changes, which conveys that one s original culture does not determine one s identity.
To begin, Nwoye reacts to western ideas by embracing European culture. Nwoye begins to accept the
